Chanca Piedra has worked for many suffering from kidney and gallstones. It helped me as well. I take a daily maintenance dose. I've read many people's stories that have also been helped by this rainforest herb. Best wishes.

My husband has suffered with kidney stones now for about 3 years, passed a small one, then had a 3 day stay in hospital with a stint put in, a painful 6 weeks of wearing it, he passed it finally, painfully passing it though. One year later, pain again with a 1cm kidney stone visable on xray and a smaller one forming too. The doctor told him that he would not be able to pass this one, but he refused to be put in hospital coz of the ordeal he thru before.

With no insurance available I got on internet and looked for natural remedies, I made a mixture of apple cider vinegar with water and honey and made a pitcher of lemonaid every day and the herb Chanca Piedra (one capsule a day) 3 weeks went along, then he was uncomfortable but not bad. One night he passed the small one first and then the 1 cm. It was the most ugliest thing I ever saw. I never seen a man so happy in my life. I am a firm believer of the herb Chanca Piedra, now he takes one a day. Hope this helps someone.

Bill, I can't find Chanca Piedra or Heart Vine where I live. Are these plants available in seed form? You could be helping people to grow these plants to cure their gallstone/kidney stone problems if they could be sent to us.

I've been living in the Philippines for over five years now. As an uprooted Englishman, my own adjustment to the tropical climate was necessarily swift. For some years I've had a fascination for and have used herbs, but I was astounded at the proliferation and variety of fresh tropical herbs that I am now able to grow in my garden so easily. These range from simple well known herbs like Thyme and Oregano to more oblique herbs like Chanca Piedra, Heart Vine, Aloe Vera, Tumeric root and Neem. So, over a period of time, I experimented and used many of these herbs very successfully for my own systemic candida and other problems, which are now all gone. I have also used both Heart Vine and Chanca Piedra over the years to successfully help people with diabetes, gout, high blood pressure, arthritis and candida problems.

There was one old Filipino who was quite badly constipated -- in a serious condition -- he hadn't been able to go to the toilet for over a month!! His family had tried all the usual laxatives with no success at all. I figured it must have been a blockage caused by a lack of liver bile, so I gave him the Chanca Piedra and Heart Vine remedy. He had a rather large evacuation after about 3 days of taking this decoction and he is now fine.
But I have had more recent success with my old and favourite Chanca Piedra and Heart Vine decoction remedy. I live behind a large but poor Filipino shanty where I have a friendly relationship with the community. They are lovely, happy people. Recently, an uncle of a Filipino friend said he went to the doctor complaining of abdominal shooting pains and bloating. The doctors diagnosed gallstones and insisted that they would have to operate to remove the gallbladder (gallbladder removal rarely, if ever, cures gallstones in the long run).

But the uncle was far too poor and couldn't afford the operation anyway. So a family member mentioned this problem to me and I taught him how to recognize and find the herbs, which all grow in the area, and I showed him how to make the standard decoction -- which consists of just two herbs -- Heart Vine (Tinospora cordifolia) and Chanca Piedra (Phyllanthus niruri) with daily dosages. In the Philippines, both these plants are regarded as useless weeds believe it or not. But in Indian Ayurvedic medicine these two herbs are revered for their rejuvenating and tonic properties.
Anyway, two months went by and word was eventually passed to me that the uncle with the gallbladder problem had successfully passed out all his gallstones naturally while taking the decoction and he was healthy once again. I really love it when I get feedback like this. To me it is simply the best sort of confirmation whether a remedy works or not.

EC: Bill's above feedback on Chanca Piedra and Heart Vine was originally published in our recent 02/28/2011 newsletter. Read the newsletter in entirety here.

I am currently being treated by the Urologist for Kidney Stones that started two months ago. My family has been plagued with them and we live in different parts of the country and eat different diets so I am sure this is hereditary. I put off going to the doctors for a month with an oblong stone that became stuck in my Ureter, approximately 4x7mm long. When I finally went to the Doctors they did a CT Scan and it also showed a 14mm stone in the upper part of my left kidney and a 3.5mm stone in the lower part.

They addressed the stone in my Ureter with the first surgical procedure using a cytoscope instrument to break up the stone and extract it. They then installed a stent, a very uncomfortable tube to allow the Ureter to heal. Two weeks later I went in to have a Lithotripsy on the large stone in my left kidney and the Dr said he wanted to leave the stent in, I said no-way, to take the stent out! It was extremely uncomfortable with it causing spasms and feeling the movement of the coils on both ends in my kidney and bladder.

After they performed the Lithotripsy I was in continual pain for 5 days following with no particles straining out in my urine. I could feel that a stone had moved back to the location in my Ureter where the earlier one had blocked the flow, but this time it was still allowing things to flow. Luckily for me a friend called to ask how I was doing and informed me she had a stone like mine that had become lodged in her Ureter, and she had taken Chanca Piedra, aka "stone breaker" and she indeed had it work on the stone with it breaking it up allowing her to finally pass it! She recommended the liquid variety because she felt it worked better for her. The next day I was able to get to the health food store, bought some and started taking both the liquid & capsules. 3 1/2 days later the pain finally broke and some fine particles started coming out!

I returned to the Doctor a week later and had an x-ray taken, indeed the large stone they performed the Lithrotripsy on was gone, but the one in the lower part of the kidney had moved to the area in my Ureter. I have been continuing to take the "urgent" dose of Chanca Piedra 6 to 8 times a day. 4 days following that x-ray I feel that the stone broke up and passed yesterday, although I was away from home and not able to strain my urine. I will find out in another 1 1/2 weeks what the status is when the doctor has another x-ray taken.

I wanted to submit this so people would give this a try, as I feel it made a huge difference for me. I had intially tried the other remedies when I first started with the stone problem (ACV) somewhat helping with pain, but, it did not seem to dissolve the stone that was causing the blockage.

For those people not helped by the ACV, lemon, and olive oil treatment I would suggest an herb called Chanca Piedra. I found out about it in 2008 after having my 7th bout with stones. I had the surgery and hurt so bad that the demerol wasn't touching it. I went online and found out about this great plant. It's name means stone breaker, and in addition to helping the urinary tract, it helps with blood pressure. It has to be imported and is not cheap, but it is cheaper than surgery and sooo worth it. I get mine online from nutrihealers, and I think you can get it from Amazon also. I have no ties to either place so not trying to promote a site. It comes in a liquid or capsule. The liquid works better but has a horrible taste. The capsules work really well also. When my first order arrived, within 2 days I felt like a different person. I took a dose of the liquid every 3 hours and drank lots of filtered water. I now take a dose a day for 1 week out of each month for maintenance and have had no more kidneystones. I ran out of Chanca at the end of last year and now doing the ACV honey drink every day and still no stones or blood pressure meds! YEAH!!

Hi Shannon...I completely agree with you about Chanca Piedra, a truly remarkable herb. When I was taking my anti-candida protocol, I took several herbs everyday in a decoction and one of them was Chanca Piedra. I also took coconut oil as well as the juice of lemon and limes daily in Ted's alkalizing protocols with BS.

I'm not sure what happened but from the outset all my gallstones came out(I could feel them) at toilet over a period of 2-3 months. And not only did I loose weight, but as an added benefit my tummy became flat again...!!

I have high respect for Chanca Piedra, a remarkably powerful herb, which continues to grow wild as a weed in my garden here in the Philippines. I still take it once every month as a simple decoction for liver, kidney, immune system and blood support with other herbs(that also grow in my garden).

I found out 6 months ago i had 2 kidney stones. One in my left kidney and one in my right. They were 3 and 4mm in size. Right away i started searching for ways to get rid of them, as i was dreading having to go through the horrible pain of passing them myself.

While researching, i came across the lemon juice method, as well as a herb called Chanca Piedra.

I read to drink a full cup of lemon juice followed by 1 oz in 1 cup of water for the next 12 hours. I have a lot of stomach problems so i wasn't able to do that. Instead about once a month i would drink a cup of lemon juice over a few hours, or make a salad dressing with lemon juice and EVOO.

I then purchased Chanca Piedra in pill form and took 2 pills once daily for about a month. It has now been 6 months since that Ultrasound, and I had a follow up Ultrasound this morning to check and see if the stones had grown or moved. The technician just looked at me and said "Where are your stones?!" I never passed them, but they are gone. He said there was a little bit of calcification in the kidneys, but no definitive stones like there were last time. I honestly didn't believe that these remedies would work, but i was willing to try even if there was only a 10% chance. So for all those who are skeptical, GO FOR IT. These remedies are painless and inexpensive and are TOTALLY worth it. I will be recommending them to ANYONE and EVERYONE i meet that has had experiences with stones.

hi there, how long did you drink 1 liter of the tea daily before it passed?

Chanca Piedra
Posted by Aaron (Stone Mountain, Ga) on 12/12/2009

I have used chanca piedra by making a tea. I have mixed chanca piedra and chamomile and drink about a liter of tea per day. I have passed well over 100 stones. When the last one began causing me pain, I began making the tea and drinking it every day. By the time I passed the stone--It was very large and spent a couple of weeks or more in my bladder, the stone fell to pieces. Chanca Piedra, according to research done at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil affects the ability of the crystals to bond together. I am not sure it helps with pain, but it does cause the stone to dissolve over time.

Hi Connie...I live in Ilocos Sur in the Philippines and Chanca piedra grows like a weed in my area. Just go to Google Image and search for "chanca piedra" or "Phyllanthus niruri" and the images will show you what plant to look for.

Chanca piedra is also used widely in Ayurvedic medicine and is sold at Indian Deli stores in Manila. In Manila, if you go down United Nations Ave away from Roxas Bld you will come to the Unilever building on your left. Directly opposite is a line of Indian stores including Agad which sells Indian spices. At one of the other delis there I have bought two prepared indian condiments -- called Triphala and Caywanprash. Both contain chanca piedra. These condiments are both prepared in the natural ayurvedic way, with no chemical processing and no use of preservatives, colourings etc. You normally take just a spoonful or two a day of the Triphala or Chaywanprash and is regarded as beneficial food in India.

For everyone's information, kidney stones are composed of 4 different types of material: uric acid stones, calcium oxalate stones, cystine stones and struvite stones.

Someone calling into a recent medical health show mentioned "chunk-a-pietra" [spelling???] as a curative to dissolve all types of stones in the body. Does anyone know what this is, or the correct spelling? thanks.

EC: Hi Bill, it's called Chanca Piedra, aka Phyllanthus Niruri. We already have feedback about this herb on the site.

More info on Wikepedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phyllanthus_niruri

Extracts of this herb have shown promise in treating a wide range of human diseases. Some of the medicinal properties suggested by numerous preclinical trials are anti-hepatotoxic, anti-lithic, anti-hypertensive, anti-HIV and anti-hepatitis B.[1][2] However, human trials are yet to show efficacy against Hepatitis B virus. [3]

The plant has long been used in Brazil as an herbal remedy for Kidney stones. Reseach among sufferers of Kidney stones has shown that, while intake of Phyllanthus niruri didn't lead to a significant difference in either stone voiding or pain levels, it may reduce urinary calcium, a contributing factor to stone growth.[4] In addition, one study conducted on rats showed that an aqueous solution of Phyllanthus niruri may inhibit kidney stone growth and formation in animals who already have stones.[5]

I am a first time sufferer of kidney stones. My problem started at end of January. I was diagnosed with a kidney stone in my left kidney. My consultant after checking my scan again, then wrote to me to tell me i had in fact another stone also in my utherer. I have gone through hell to say the least the most pain of which semed to be coming from the "stent" and the continuous infections and always bleeding every time i passed urine. I have other medical conditions so used to dealing with pain and so have a very high pain threshold but this has truly been unbearable. I have been hospitalized 3 times so far! Recently someone mentioned chancy piedra so i rushed to order online and at the same time also saw this website for the first time.

This morning I have taken 3 cups of chancy piedra so far (and also the lemon juice and olive oil method for good measure). It is too soon to say whether i will pass the stones etc but i know one thing already..the excruciating pain i have suffered since end of January has actually gone for the first time!

My surgery is scheduled for tommorrow to remove the stone from my utherer and when i recover from the surgery i have been told i will need at least 2 lots of lithotripsy to remove the other stone as it is so big...

I wish i had seen this several weeks ago and i am 100% sure if i continue to take the piedra i will not need the lithotripsy...Have had so much time off work already and of course i will need another 4-6 weeks to recover from the op..There has been so much wasted time and all the hospital does is give you painkillers and antibiotics which in the end stopped working. I ended up having to take morphine as the pain was so bad!...I also suffered from acid reflux/reflux disease which developed into barratts esophegus so i will also be trying the aloe vera and also magnesium..Many thanks to all readers for their immensely helpful comments.
