Antifungal Lotion for Perioral Dermatitis

I recently moved from a moldy apartment that had been affected by Hurricane Harvey. During the process I noticed a painful, itchy rash breaking out on the outside of my nose. It felt hot and raw and frankly, I wanted no part of it. I did an internet search and discovered Perioral Dermatitis. My next stop was Earthclinic and I tried several of the recommendations including coconut oil and an Aztec clay mask. They did nothing and my rash continued to grow.

That was until I found the one poster's comment here regarding a fungal infection that they had mis-self-diagnosed as Perioral Dermatitis. Immediately I jumped up and found a small unused tube of miconazole nitrate cream 2% I had on hand and I applied that to the rash. Within a few short minutes the hot, itchy feeling eased and within 30 minutes the burning was completely gone. I applied it one more time before bed and after cleaning my face with warm water. When I woke up the next morning the rash was about 65% gone! And what remained was less red and inflamed. I was fully healed in a few short days.

I have been reading everyone's posts for 8 months and I swear I have tried EVERYTHING listed here-ACV, yogurt, probiotics, manuka honey, aloe, alcohol & peroxide, cutting out all sls, flouride, cinammon, spicy foods, pristine oral health, oregano oil, coconut oil.... NOTHING worked. Some things soothed it, but nothing made it go away. My dermatologist told me I had PD and of course gave me steriods and antibiotics- I read not to use steriods because they ultimately make it worse and the antibiotic cream did nothing- oral antibiotics gave me a whole body rash. For 8 long frustrating months I battled this "dermatitis" around my mouth and nostrils. It even traveled to my eyelid at one point. It finally just dawned on me that maybe it wasn't dermatitis at all, and that's why none of the remedies were working. I swear I don't know why I even bother going to the doctor anymore. I realized he hadn't even tested the rash in the first place, just was sure it was PD. If he had simply done a test to find out what was present on the skin, I wouldn't have struggled through 8 months of my life!!! I was reading something about athletes foot and it sounded much like the scales on my face- so I thought perhaps it was fungal. I applied Lotrimin Ultra and a perscription anti-fungal-ketoconazole cream 2% - that I had leftover from something else. I applied both to the affected area before bed, and by morning there was a marked improvement!!! I was thrilled. I applied am and pm for a week and it is TOTALLY GONE!!!!! TOTALLY GONE. So if nothing is working for you, perhaps it's not dermatitis at all. It is a FUNGUS growing in your skin- just like athlete's foot.

My rash showed after using a specific powdered make up that she advertises for older ladies on TV. There are ingredients in it that are very questionable. I have thrown it away. The rash has lingered all around my mouth for weeks.

I decided after research to try a cream for athletes foot. Each day it gets better and better. The redness is almost gone.

I have had success curing perioral dermatitis with Jock Itch Cream, please make sure it contains the drug BUTENAFINE HYDROCHLORIDE (There are several Lotrimin products that do not contain this medication! )

Perioral dermatitis is a generic term for (dermatitus meaning rash & perioral meaning around the mouth).

Many times these rashes are misdiagnosed and really a fungus similar to jock itch, athletes foot or ring worm! Using hydrocortisone can help initially and then the rash rebounds and becomes worse!

Apple cider vinegar kills the bacteria temporarily but will not stop the grown completely!

Ultra with Butenafine Hydrochloride is the only thing that cured my rash. Keep the area totally dry after applying it. Do not use moisturizers or creams that keep the skin moist. Use a hair dryer to dry the Loritrimin after application! Blessings to you all!

Hello All, If any one wants a dramatic result. Go buy an over the counter yeast infection kit (3 day monistate) the one with the 3 "egg" type pill things. Cut it open and apply to the affected area. In about 2-4 days the redness and flaky skin will look almost 100% better. While this is only a "bandaid" solution it will clear up the skin if you have an event to go to. Other than that this needs to be treated from inside the body. I myself have suffered from this for years!!! It is so annoying to say the least. While the yeast infection kit is a new thing that I just thought of and tried (with great results) I would say diet and stress level is 100% responsible for this pesky face problem. Also while it is frowned upon, I find that tanning indoors helps out my face a lot. Other than that pretty much what every one else on here is saying is the best solution. Just want to say that this worked for me and I hope it works for everyone, again the monistate thing is a "bandaid" solution ONLY.

I thought I had correctly self-diagnosed myself with perioral dermatitis, as my story was very similar to everyone else on these boards (whole life of perfect skin, then recurring outbreaks around the mouth to create a 'muzzle' effect with increasing frequency) and it became so bad at one point that the moisturizer and makeup I put on top of the rash became a staph infection. So I had to take antibiotics for the infection, then I had a severe alllergic reaction which caused my face to swell up to alarming proportions. So then I was put on a 6 day steroid pack, which worked wonders for both the rash and the swelling, but a few days after I finished the pack, my face rash symptoms came back. On the verge of despair, I saw this post and decided to try some clotrimazole on the affected areas. While the effect wasn't amazingly immediate, the areas did feel less itchy and irritated than they had before, so I continued putting the cream on several times throughout the day. Now, 2 1/2 days later, the rash is about 85 percent better and I'm hoping that by tomorrow I will be fully (or almost) better again. So I encourage you to try the antifungal cream, especially if, like me, your symptoms were less papule-oriented and more dry/flaky/red.

Is it supposed to burn when put on?

Hello, I want to share a remedy that worked for me:

I was suffering from perioal dermatitis for 4-5 months. It moved to my nose area towards the end. I tried using ACV and I believe it helped a bit. But what really worked for me was the Antifungal Lotion. In about 2 weeks of applying the lotion twice a day I'm now finally free of the dermatitis.
