For various reasons I have been on a High Fat, Low Carb (20 grams of carb) diet for a month now and lost about 4 Kilograms (8 lb) and I am happy about it. I plan to stay on it for as long as I can, in order to get to my target weight, but I have one concern.

My brix levels are 3% (which I think is good) but my pH and ORP levels are not good. (pH about 5, ORP about 20)

My question is, should I take sodium bicarbonate in order to become alkalised and oxygenated? or add 35% hydrogen peroxide (3 drops per glass) or do something different?

02/24/2012: Alex from Honolulu, Hi: "I wrote Ted an email, but I wanted to open up my questions to the rest of earthclinic and also include more details.I have been trying to alkalize using Ted's lemon bicarb remedy. Instead of pure bicarb. I've been using a premade health product which contains a mixture of:

  • potassium bicarbonate (7.8%)
  • sodium bicarbonate (78%)
  • sodium citrate (1.6%)
  • a little sea salt

I mix 1/4 tsp of the above with 1/2 a lemon and dilute it into a very large glass of water. I feel strange when I drink it, my mind will fog up, or I'll feel physically anxious for no reason -- diluting and drinking the remedy very slowly reduces problems, perhaps the problems are less each time I drink it. Despite the odd sensations Anyone know why this happens? Sometimes it makes me extremely drowsy instead. Improved dramatically for 9 days straight. I used to take ~2500mg Betaine HCl with meaty meals, and now I need 650mg, sometimes none at all. If the lemon can make me alkaline, do I even need to mix in the alkaline powders?

I had these questions a week ago:

Is the above mixture safe? I have some pH strips (range 5.2 - 7.4) and whenever I check my pH it is always maxed out at 7.4. Presumably my urine pH is significantly higher than 7.4. Prior to this remedy my morning urine pH was also unreadable, it always read 5.2 (presumably lower). Will I ever know if I'm too alkaline?

However after 2 weeks things have changed a bit:

Day 14 my morning pH is 5.8 for saliva and and 5.5-5.8 for urine. This is after increasing from 1/4 tsp bicarb mix to 1/2. What going on here, am I not taking enough of the alkaline powder?

My underlying conditions are:

  • mercury toxicity (95th percentile on a hair test)
  • aluminum toxicity (70th percentile)
  • GERD, CFS, anxiety, constipation, most symptoms of fibromyalgia (all improving with the alkaline remedy)
  • recurring back pain and mild scoliosis (acts up alongside all other symptoms)
  • candida likely - I've only eaten meat, vegetables and nuts for 8 months, any sugar/carbs/fruit worsen my symptoms, I also have frequent recurring rashes (face, groin, feet) that disappear if soaked in ACV

I'd like to note that I'm 28 years old, and was very fit and healthy before I got suddenly very sick 20 months ago. I have no metal fillings in my teeth. I did used to eat a lot of fish, perhaps my body is bad at detoxing mercury, or maybe I experienced an acute exposure unknowingly.

My plan to recover is

  • alkalize 2x day - the above powder mixture lemon (my diluted version)
  • maintain my strict candida diet
  • take B complex
  • oil pull 5 minutes with organic extra virgin olive oil every morning
  • take modified citrus pectin (product name omitted)
  • cook with real sea salt and acv
  • small amounts of cilantro and chlorella (though some side effects so far)
  • chia fiber (many side effects! Can people with candida not consume fiber...?)
  • green tea (many side effects, have to stop)
  • mild yoga to stall the perpetual degradation of my back

Any advice anyone has for me would be much appreciated!

Specific answers would be appreciated about:

  • is my alkaline mixture safe? do I really need a break from it?
  • why was I so alkaline after taking it initially, but not anymore?
  • candida and chia fiber appears to make me sick.. Can I not have chia fiber? its mostly insoluable
  • any tips to recover from candida
  • any tips to recover from mercury

Until only recently 20 min Oil Pull w/ Canola, Foot Bath Zap (for Candida, very good results), Grapefruit Seed Extract #1 and Oil Of Oregano #2 for Candida, Detox Foot Pads (one on each foot nightly, very good results for heavy metals; I can actually feel that electrical shocking sensation as they travel through my body). Charcoal or Bentonite before retiring will bind heavy metals.

This stuff is so powerful at mobilizing mercury, many people experienced adverse side effects, re-toxifying themselves... I did a lot for mercury toxicity: 5 brands of zeolites, chlorella, cilantro, glutathione supplements, none-scheduled ALA, modified citrus pectin, etc. And nothing helped as much as Cutler protocol... Safer too. Sweating also helped a great deal, making my own NEAR infra red sauna. Good luck!"

This property of the vitamin has a negative effect on the animals fed a copper-deficient diet, but a positive effect on those fed toxic levels of copper, selenium, vanadium, and cobalt. The effect of ascorbic acid in alleviating cadmium toxicity has been attributed to the effect of the vitamin on iron metabolism, since ferrous iron will also alleviate cadmium toxicity in the Japanese quail. The results of studies reported here indicate that iron will alleviate lead toxicity but ascorbic acid is ineffective. Ascorbic acid will alleviate mercury toxicity, but iron exacerbates this condition. For these two elements, the effects of iron and ascorbic acid are independent of each other."

I stopped taking the chia fiber, and my recent bout of problems went away. I didn't think candida could consume mostly insoluble fiber, but for some reason the fiber didn't work out.

Timh, I've got some grapefruit seed extract. I'll wait till I'm a little stronger and try it out. I'm also pretty curious about trying footpads. I used to live in a basement apartment which had occasional leaks, and I also owned a car that flooded and got fully molded on every surface. I managed to clean it up, but I'm sure it was always pretty toxic. I didn't have any health issues at the time, but I doubt it did me any good either. Is there any way to know if footpads can pull out metal? Or is it more for the molds? People seem very conflicted about foot detoxes in general (calling it miracle or hoax, rarely anything inbetween).

Also what do you think the OP did for you? One woman on this site says she recovered from agent orange exposure via op. I oil pull for 5 minutes every day, and I gotta say it feels like nothing (though my teeth certainly like it). It would be nice to think that it is pulling mercury out of my tissues without causing any noticeable side effects.

Mike, The Cutler protocol cured you of mercury problems? Did you have any digestion problems with DMSA? My stomach acid totally stops after I take DMSA. Do you think saunas are important for someone with primarily methylmercury exposure? I use a sauna about once per week, it seems to alleviate candida symptoms. I always wonder if it is doing anything for the mercury.

Green tea questions:

There is an *in vitro* study showing absorption of mercury from food (fish) drops 90% if consumed with green tea, black tea, or soy protein. http://fn.cfs.purdue.edu/fish4health/PurdueResearch/HGBioavail06.pdf

That may explain in part why some Japanese can handle so much tuna.

However there is also a previous study showing an increase in blood levels of mercury from consuming tea. So perhaps green tea can mobilize mercury... Which is something I cannot yet physically handle. I do like the idea that the green tea might stop mercury from being absorbed again though, I would like to try it more in the future. Currently green tea has been too strong for me (I'm not sure if it has to do with mercury or other effects).

Does anyone have anything to share about green tea and mercury?"

02/29/2012: Timh from Louisville, Ky, Usa replies: "Alex, I began detoxing via feet w/ two different brands of pads w/ noticable positive results but nothing complete or permanent for my condition as far as remission goes; then I tried an Ionic Foot Spa w/ great anticipation but mostly got die-off from candida infection (herxed so bad that I got chronic pancreatitis as a result of 1ce wk spa), so it seems I couldn't even get down to the heavy metal level w/ my brand of spa (1.5 herz?, pulling power) because of the severe candida overgrowth. Forward 2 yrs and try pads again w/ noticeable good results. You can buy pads on Ebay at wholesale prices from worldwide distributors. I am currently experiencing much greater relief from the pads in comparison to the spa. Most pads have a number of different ingredients so they can absorb an array of toxin types imho. After about 2mo use of 2-4 pads nightly, I can attest that the results are amazingly positive and I am becoming convinced that continual use will result in lasting improvements (of which I haven't experienced in a decade despite various treatments and healing protocols). 03/18/2012: Alex from Honolulu, Hi, United States replies: "Some time has gone by and I've had a chance to try some remedies. There have also been new developments, and I'm looking for suggestions.

Trying a modified diet based on interactions with mercury

Paying attention to the mineral interactions of mercury, as suggested, I made some dietary changes. I began consuming brasil nuts for selenium (2-4 per day), almonds and a few other nuts for magnesium, vitamin E, folate, and 1/2 sheet of nori for iodine. I also made an effort to consume more brocoli (vit C, folate) and restrict the amount of iron I ate at one time (for example not having grass fed ground beef as often, and not eating it in combination with iron-rich nuts). I experienced roughly a week of improved health and energy upon the introduction of these foods. If I had to guess, I'd say I had most benefit from the brasil nuts and brocoli. Pumpkin seeds, and larger quantities of flax seeds were problematic. I've since lost this improvement, for reasons unknown. I speculate that perhaps eating a large quantity of nuts may have trigger some candida problems (too many carbs?). I also wonder about the iron content of the nuts, and its interaction with mercury. Nevertheless, I do think that the above foods are helpful when mercury is involved and I will continue to experiment.

Castor oil on liver/gut

I also had positive results from castor oil application. I had quite a bit more energy, less random pains, and stronger digestion thanks to castor oil.. Continued use of castor oil was less dramatic, but seems to still be beneficial. I don't actually make a castor oil pack; my particular technique is to rub castor oil from just above my lower ribs to just above my hipbone on the right side of my body, from navel to side. I use a microwaved sock full of rice as a heatpad, and a papertowel to keep the heatpad from getting oily. I move the heatpad around periodically to heat all areas. After an hour or so (if I haven't fallen asleep) I wash off any remaining oil. I try to do this 3-4 nights per week.

Ted's lemon bicarb continued use

I've continued using ted's lemon bicarb remedy for several weeks now, and the side effects I previously experienced no longer occur. I'd like to note that this seems to help with termination insomnia. My pH still spends plenty of time around 6. 0 as I get further away from when I took the remedy. I have not taken a 2 day break from this remedy as suggested. The lemons I've been using are very small, perhaps too small.. I'm considering doubling my dose (currently 1/2 tsp of bicarb is neutralizing the lemon).

Oil pulling continued

I haven't experienced a detox-related cure from from oil pulling yet. My teeth and gums are very healthy looking though, so OP certainly has *at least* that going for it. I'll write back again when I approach the 3 month mark (3 months was suggested by Ted for OP in case of heavy metals).

Betaine HCl

While experimenting with b-complex, various nuts and kimchi, I experienced a decline in digestion and energy (possibly unrelated). I started to have loose yellow stools every morning, and felt generally worse. Increasing betaine hcl dose from 0-1 capsules (650mg) per meal to 4-6 capsules improved stomach issues.

New: blood test results, does anyone have similar conditions and similar results?

Like many people on earthclinic, I had numerous troubling ailments and no luck with conventional doctors. Well, I did go to a doctor again and there were *some* medically significant results this time. This doctor (like most) did not think mercury, low stomach acid, and candida could be responsible for my problems. The only problems that the doctor could confirm were a low white blood cell count ~2. 6 (ideal 3. 4-11. 4), low neutrophils, low platelets, low good cholesterol, moderate bad cholesterol. A year ago I had a similar test, and all I can remember is that the doctor said that my immune systme was clearly fighting, but everything else looked okay. I wonder if this test from a year ago had a high white blood cell count. I did experience a 5 day stomach bug (presumably viral) within one month of having my blood tested, so perhaps that could explain the wbc. Or maybe this is just how it is with candida and mercury. Is anyone else in a similar position? Does anyone know what this might mean? Per the low wbc and my general symptoms, I'm supposed to follow up with a hemotologist in the near future.

New: worse fatigue

I'm not sure if its just stress but my recent fatigue is far worse than before. I started taking b-complex, and I sometimes wonder if it is making things worse somehow. A short walk makes me dizzy. Every meal requires a few hours of rest afterwards. I spend more and more time in bed, but less time sleeping. Is there a good way to differentiate die-off from adrenal fatigue, or any other likely cause? Any advice would be appreciated."

I have done this in the morning to test whether or not I am producing too much stomach acid. I did this for three days And never burped at all. I am a 51 year old female with Multiple Myeloma (blood cancer - treatable but not cureable) and Kidney Failure and severly weaken immune system. I have been on chemo for 5.5 years straight. Just got out of hospital and found myself battling a bad case of thrush on top of other issues - high blood pressure, severe bad pain ( dynamic ), nauseousness and vomitting, along with a systemic infection of unknown origin and no appetite. These are the same issues that I had prior to going into the hospital with the exception of the case of thrush.

I would like to start an alkalizing protocol to rid body of toxins from 6 months of antibiotics and strengthen my immune system at the same time. Immune system is completely gone at this point. I am currently being treated with monthly infusions to help build immune system with blood products. Confused by all the formulas but I still have not been able to find a formula for persons with compromised kidneys. Don't know what to do because of kidney failure and the negative impact that sodium could have on kidneys. Can someone please point me in the right direction?"

Regarding your constipation issues with salt, if you are using processed salt then switch to using Natural Sea Salt with your cooking and at mealtimes. Processed salt is pure Sodium Choride which usually contains a hydrophobic additive -- usually Aluminium Hydroxide -- which is added to keep salt dry so you can shake it out. Aluminium is also bad for your body. Change to natural sea salt -- contains no additives -- and which will get damp because natural sea salt is hydrophillic(attracts water), so I just sprinkle it on my the food with my fingers. The Aluminium Hydroxide in your processed salt is what is causing your constipation problem -- the Aluminium Hydroxide drives water out of the intestine. Sea salt is much more alkaline and will do the opposite -- drawing water into the intestine, making your stools softer. Sea salt also naturally contains other minerals like Magnesium and Potassium which are also beneficial.

Killing the Yeast

* Ted from Bangkok recommends using B Complex everyday to get rid of the yeast. If and when the yeast goes then reduce supplementing to once every 3 days.

* Borax. Add 1/8 tspn of Borax (20 Mule Team Borax is fine to use) in a liter of water and drink this throughout the day. Do this for 4 days a week only. Borax is the ultimate fungal killer. Or you can simply buy Boron supplements at the health store and take the recommended dose but this will be more expensive (Boron supplements all use Borax or Sodium Tetraborate anyway).

* Topically, you can also use boric acid, hydrogen peroxide, Iodine or ACV etc as douches or suppositories. See this link here.

Addressing the Root Causes

Although the above remedies will get rid of the yeast, there is absolutely no gaurantee that it wont come back. The main root causes of yeast are excess heavy metals, excess body calcium(acidity), fluoride/bromide poisoning(acidity), medicinal drugs(especially antibiotics, anti-depressants), bad diet and poor immune system:

* Supplement with Magnesium Chloride, Mag Citrate or Mag Gluconate -- 250 mgs twice a day. This will help remove excess calcium form your body. Excess calcium encourages body acidity and encourages yeast infections. Magnesium helps support your imune system as well.

* Alkalize with Ted's lemon/lime remedy. One whole lemon or lime squeezed into a half glass of water. Then add 1/4-1/2 tspn Baking Soda(Arm and Hammer brand is fine) until the fizzing stops. Take this twice a day. This will also help remove any excess calcium in your body.

* Two drops of 5% Lugol's Iodine per day. Removes fluoride/bromide from the body. Iodine will also help to support and beef up the immune system.

* Eat salads containing cilantro leaf three times a week and drink green tea every day. This regimen will get rid of the heavy metals from the body in about a month.

* Take Fulvic/Humic acid in water daily. This will help remove and neutralize any other poisons in your body from food preservatives, pesticides etc.

* Diet. Avoid excess sugar, carbohydrates and avoid dairy - no milk, yoghurt, cheese etc. Try to avoid all processed food."

I have read a lot of books and what I understand now is that as long as you are taking enough potassium salt will even lower your blood pressure. Another thing is that your body does need salt! And there are foods that lower the blood pressure like beetroots, celery and a lot more. So.... Better do some research. The salt thing is a bit like stay out of the sun, don't eat fat, don't eat saturated fats and much more, all things which are being turned back at least here in Europe! Nowadays people are advised to go in the sun in the middle of the day without sun screen (use your wisdom, of course, don't bake yourself to death.... ), pregnant women are advised to eat a cooked English breakfast which includes bacon, eggs, sausages......

Doctors will always parrot what the system tells them so in doubt do your own research! Even if they know better they are not allowed to tell you like my dentist who knew about OP but who doesn't tell the patients because it doesn't fit into the norm but after I talked to him about it he advised my husband to do it too! It's very difficult to purchase humic acid in the Philippines but I have thankfully found a fulvic acid source which contains high fulvic acid in a bicarbonate solution together with the body electrolyte minerals. I take about 15 drops once or twice a day.

Since many of our long-term immunological illnesseses generally arise from our diet, from pesticides etc, from heavy metals, from the bad halogens and from drugs -- but I don't stop there. Almost everybody in the western diet is deficient in Magnesium, iodine, potassium and sodium with calcium generally in excess. Add to this vitamin and amino acid deficiencies as well. This all works to greatly depresses our immune system and leaves the back door open to illness.

This is why I generally and additionally supplement with extra Magnesium, Vitamin C(I take higher than RDA), Sodium(sea salt), Potassium(small amounts, more if ill) and iodine(I take 100 times more than the RDA). All these are generally deficient in the western diet.

But the most important remedy that I take on a daily basis is Ted from Bangkok's alkalizing remedies and my favourite, without a doubt, is his simple lemon and lime remedy. It is very effective indeed.

I have to add that I am also continously adjusting and experimenting with the remedies I take to see what effect they have, and to see if I can improve their effect.

For instance, I wasn't happy that I was waking up so slowly with brain fog every morning. I guess I had a slightly "acid brain". I know that Ted from Bangkok's carbicarb remedy is a solution for this, so I've tried an experiment. I tried creating a variation of the carbicarb remedy usng Ted's lemon/lime remedy and took the following:

Squeeze the lemon/lime in a glass. Add water up to 1 inch on the glass. Add 1/8 tspn potassium carbonate. Then add water up to half a glass. Then add 1/2 tspn Sodium Bicarbonate. Finally, add 1/8 tspn of Sodium Bicarbonate. The creation of the this carbicarb remedy must be done in the exact sequence as described, otherwise it becomes something different and won't work so well. You can also make this remedy by substituting 1/2 tspn of citric acid crystals for the lemon or lime(I've done this and tested it successfully).

When you add the potassium carbonate this is converted to potassium citrate, but there is still some citric acid left in the lemon/lime juice. When you add the Sodium Bicarbonate, the rest of the citric acid is converted to sodium citrate. As well, you will now have an excess of Sodium Bicarbonate(about 1/4 tspn) in solution which works to alkalize and buffer the solution. Then, finally, when you add the Sodium Carbonate, this just further raises the alkalinity of the remedy to a much higher level. To this mix, I usually add a small amount of sea salt(optional), in order to increase minerals and to increase ORP. I also sometimes add 1/4 tspn of Magnesium Chloride or Mag Sulphate(Epsom Salts) to this remedy as well -- this helps me to relax or sleep when I need it. Bye the way, this variation on the carbicarb remedy tastes much nicer!!

With this mixture, the blood is alkalized, the cells are alkalized and the brain is alkalized too.

I've been taking this mixture an hour or two before going to bed, and have found that when I wake up now -- no more brainfog -- I'm wide awake, energetic and ready to go."

Your body needs salt. The main essential body electrolytes are Sodium, Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium. Sodium constitutes 90% of your body's electrolytes and is essential for life. The problem with salt is the chloride part of the molecule. Therefore, there is simply an imbalance between these electrolytes in your body which can be for various reasons(see link).

The key electrolyte in my opinion is Magnesium. With either low magnesium or excess calcium, then potassium balance will be affected. And if cellular potassium balance is low then sodium content in the blood and cells will rise to excess to compensate and cause problems. So supplementing twice daily with 250 mgs of Magnesium Chloride or Magnesium Citrate or Magnesium Gluconate will help you. Avoid all dairy products, avoid all calcium fortified foods, avoid sugar, cut right down on carbohydrates and avoid vegetable oils(polyunsaturated fats). Excess intake of heavy metals and halogens(Bromine, Fluorine etc) can also affect your mineral balance and create an acidic body. A depressed liver, kidneys or adrenals can also effect sodium excretion and reabsorbtion. And this problem relates directly to your candida too because all this electrolytic imbalance tends to cause acidity which helps the candida to spread. [BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  08/06/2010: Robert from Sydney, Nsw: "Hi there, I have been on Ted's alkalizing protocol for 3 weeks now. The more I read about his symptoms the more I find them similar. I have had candida symptoms for over 15 years, eczema, stomach bloating, dry mouth, white tongue, burning acid in mouth after eating most of the foods. I also developed some eczema on my penis recently. In addition over the last couple of years my muscles started shrinking to the point that I was not able to walk. I am out of work and tried many, many protocols. Last 3 weeks have basically changed my life. I did two things: One: I take 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon of sodium carbonate (washing soda - a precursor of sodium bicarbonate) and 1/4 potassium citrate in at least 1/2 glass of water taken two times a day. Two: I am on a very specific Candida diet (search Bee's Candida diet) high in good fats (220-250g), protein (60gr) and carbs mostly from veggies I eat (60gr) I am 178cm tall and weight is 80kg. I am also getting ready to introduce borax which I am getting to Australia from USA (hard to find but I managed to get it delivered here). My changes after 3 weeks on the above are as following:

1.) My candida/eczema on my penis gone after 3 weeks and I do not get it irritated so easily anymore. I actually tried irritating it over the last few days but nothing happens. Usually I would get redness and itch would start after a while if I did not use a cream or aloe Vera. Not any more.

2.) For 3 weeks almost everyday I noticed white, cloudy urine. Initially I did not know what it was but after a while I realized it was Candida. How I know? well, after the first experience with cloudy urine I got an outbreak of a pretty bad eczema on my penis. Later I learned to keep it very clean after each time I urinated. Now, after three weeks no more itch, redness, eczema anything.. Clean and strong.

3.) I started walking again, wow! . Walking has not been an issue for so long but it scared me. I had mostly upper back issue (left side trap) to the point I could no longer type at work, so I took sick leave and I can tell you that it will take me months to get back to work. I am convinced that my diet and mostly alkalizing protocol helped to bring the muscle to balance. I still have a long way to go but it is working. Together with my diet I use basic supplements suggested by Bee Candida diet such as: calcium and magnesium citrate (equal amounts), East Flakes (vit B great source), vit C (makes me to go too much), lots of coconut oil and cod olive oil for fat source, vit E 400 once per per day. It is suggested that all foods are organic but I cannot afford it yet. I eat about 200g beef per day. I have terribly dry face skin and lots of eczema outbreaks allover. I manage to control it but it really wants to get out. I hope Borax will help. I feel very dry, my skin is very, very dry. One more interesting thing I noticed is that Candida gets worse a week before the full moon. I had Candida for almost 15 years and only last 5 I knew it was it. I noticed through my suffering that the cycle is always the same: two weeks before the full moon I get worse, eczema gets out, then two weeks after the full moon everything heals, body gets strong and fights eczema. It took me a lot of time to learn all these and try many things but here I am on the way to the recovery. I read peoples comments who recovered from many issues just applying that diet. Apparently high fat (good fat) diet is a miracle itself.

Okay, now I have a few questions:

Does anyone managed to get Borax in Australia (I got it but shipping is very expensive)

Also, I manage my burning sensation in my mouth by drinking Myrrh Tincture from Pure herbs in USA. Trust me you must get that brand or do not bother. I tried many but only this one is the one that works for whatever that is causing the burning sensation. I drink 20 drops 3 times a day. I started taking Myrrh only after I developed dry mouth after my last stupid antibiotics treatment in 2005 (that is when I really got serious Candida and started learning). Sometimes I think I have a bug and Myrrh helps to keep it under control, as soon as I stop drinking it the burning comes back. I tried using it in my colonics (at that time I did not know I had it in my small colon) and burned up my colon badly (did colonoscopy) - almost recovered but took 4 months. So, Myrrh is good but not strong enough to get access all the organs. Perhaps it only works in the first part of intestine and that is why it helps with burning. On the other hand I am worrying that it could be another bug. I really cleaned up Candida by urinating but this has not had any affect on the burning after eating. Not sure what that means. Again, on the other hand, when I tool lamisil tablets for a weeks it cleaned up the burning sensation and white tongue in a week. (I stopped using it due to huge eczema outbreak on my face). Perhaps I need to be patient and wait until my protocol gets to the problem that causes the indigestion issue. For now I keep drinking Myrrh tincture to help with my digestion. Oh, I tried enzymes (I learned a lot about them) but it did not work at all, only Myrrh works (good it is not so expensive).

When I had candida 4 years ago and got rid of it using Ted's protocols, I also had eczma and psoriasis amongst many other symptoms. What I found was that virtually all my yeast/fungal symptoms -- including the psoriasis and eczma -- just disappeared altogether when the candida disappeared. I would also completely agree with you about Ted's alkalizing remedies. I mainly took the lemon/lime remedy with 1/2 tspn of BS 3 times a day. I was quite aggressive with my protocol but I never had any problems or sensitivities with this dose. (I weigh about 100 kilos)

Your indigestion issue may be due to lack of Hydrochloric acid in the stomach, so it might be worth it to take Betaine Hydrochloride tablets or 6 drops HCL in a glass of water just before you eat to aid stomach digestion. Take Protease Enzymes at the same time. Is the indigestion in your stomach or intestines? If it's in the intestines -- you may be lacking pancreatic bicarbonates to neutralize the stomach chyme in the duodenum, so you can try taking just 1/4 to 1/2 tspn of plain sodium bicarbonate(Baking Soda) in a half glass of water about an hour after you've eaten -- after the food has already moved from you stomach into the duodenum -- which should be alkaline to neutral for your main second stage digestion to work.

The new protocol written below -- is the one the I would prefer to use now -- it will get rid of candida much quicker and is wholly based on Ted's recommended candida remedies. When I used my old original candida protocol I did not know what I know now -- 3 or 4 years later. My original remedy took a whole year to get rid of my candida, but Ted has said that you can get rid of it in four months. So here is the protocol I would use now:

To Improve your Body Terrain

*Take Ted's Lime/Lemon alkalizing remedies at least 2-3 times a day as recommended. These alkalizing remedies create the worst possible environment for the candida while simultaneously creating a healthy and oxygenated body terrain. Also take the BS with water remedy on it's own one hour before bed - this will help you get a good nights sleep. If you have problems with this, then use Ted's Carbicarb remedy -- this is more balanced and incorporates potassium to balance any sodium issues. Think of this simply as taking out the candida trash. This die-off will give you flu-like or liverish symptoms and perhaps some diarrhea. *Detox and get rid of heavy metals from your body. Due to diet and if you've taken medicinal drugs for any length of time you will have an accumulation of heavy metals. This is a direct cause of acidity and therefore a direct cause of candida. To get rid of the heavy metals just drink green tea 2 or 3 times a day and eat Cilantro 3 times a week in salads. Remedies that Directly Attack the Candida

*Drink 1/4 teaspoon of borax(1/8 tspn for women) in a litre of water throughout the day. Take this for 4 days on then rest for 3 days. So, 4 days on, 3 days off with the Borax. Diet

Avoid the following -- all sugar and sugar foods, dairy, all polyunsaturated vegetable oils, aspartame, sucralose, saccharine, MSG, soft drinks, junk foods, fried foods, baked goods containing white flour, red meat and anti-biotics. Use coconut oil to cook everything with and use only Stevia as a sweetener. Your diet should contain low amounts of white meat like chicken, turkey and fish with high amounts of vegetables. Rice is OK.

There are other methods of helping to get rid of candida, but I've taken a blanket approach -- I always assume, from my own experience with candida, that other problems caused by other resident bacteria, viruses etc will arise because of the candida and these also need to be addressed at the same time and so this are incorporated into the above protocol.

Ted from Bangkok will have many more remedies up his sleeve that will certainly work -- such as BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene) and Azoxystrobin (agri fungicide), but these substances are hard to obtain and I've never used them so I can't really comment. But I have used(and still using) all the above recommended remedies now and I haven't been ill -- no colds, flu or any other problem -- for well over 3 years since I cured myself of candida and I'm over 60 y o now. Thank for your feedback. My Candida is quite stubborn. I tried using Lugol's the other day and noticed that my burning sensation after drinking cold or eating a meal is down. I could feel some movements at my usual intestine level (where major Candida is) but then Lugol's did not work anymore. That is what usually was happening after using other anti fungals. I know it got resistant so I will try another antifungal - the Methylene Blue. I am keeping my body clean by drinking Borax (3 days per week) and carbicarb. I strongly believe that Carbicarb keeps my intestine and salivary PH at the right level and stops Candida from spreading around. I wish I new that earlier, I could avoid many problems.

I have a few other questions. Over the last 3 years I developed quite serious muscle issues. Considering that I have Candida in the intestine I believe I have washed out all nutrients from my body. My muscles have shrunk and I started having weakness and pain in my legs if I walk too much. Is there anything I could do to help that muscle weakness recovery apart form what I am already doing? My diet is okay (I think) 70-80% good fat some carbs (buckwheat) and a veggies. Will appreciate your feedback."

Regarding your muscle weakness issues in your legs, this could be due to imbalances in your main body electrolytes -- Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium and Potassium. Usually people's body electrolytes these days are high in calcium(acidifying) and low in magnesium and potassium. Therefore taking Fulvic/humic acid or sea salt should help to alleviate this due to mineral content. Also, if you're not already doing so, try taking the citrate forms of sodium and potassium in your Carbicarb remedy if you can instead of the bicarbonate forms -- citrates tend to alkalize the inner cell environment more and will therefore help to oxygenate your cells(giving you more energy).

When I had candida I took mainly the simple lemon/lime plus Baking Soda form of the remedy and took it 3 times a day without fail and this drink mainly forms citrates and ascorbates which are very alkalizing. I also took the ACV plus baking soda remedy -- this forms malates which are also useful for energy like the citrates(but not so alkalizing as citrates).

I would also consider taking Vitamin C(as Sodium Ascorbate) with magnesium chloride or magnesium citrate, since this will also properly help to balance the calcium and potassium in your cells and tissues. Take at least 2-3 grams of Vit C daily with at least 250 mgs magnesium twice a day.

The methylene blue should also have positive effect on your energy as well."

I do not take any statin. I agree Bill, my electrolytes are out of balance. I lost most of my trapezes muscle due to bad diet and overuse at work. For almost 3 years my diet was lacking 90% magnesium, sodium, and 100% potassium. I had no idea what to eat and survived on 300g buckwheat and 1-2kg meat per day no fruits or veggies. Although meat was okay I ate too much carbs (even though it was buckwheat). Thanks Bill for advice, I believe I am doing the right thing with my carbicarb. I noticed some improvement over the last 2 weeks in my legs. I have however pretty big problem with improving my PH in saliva. My urine is above 7. I tried taking more potassium but it barely helping. My carbicarb is 1/4 SB, SC, and 1/2 teaspoon potassium citrate. If I lower potassium my ph is really acidic, but even with higher potassium the PH of my upper body is below 7. Any idea what else to do? I think I simply need to wait and things will get better. Also, Is is okay to add lime to carbicarb solution? I could not find any comments on about it. I hate the taste!!! Blee, , ,

Once again, thanks for listening. By the way, my face and hair are sooooooo much better. I do not get this oily skin and hair anymore. I still have dandruff but people! It is so much better. My upper part of my body is so acidic. I know now that once I get this alkaline my eczema will never come back. Last week I started shaving regularly and noticed my face really getting better, all the marks after eczema outbreaks are healing, almost gone. Can't believe it, miracle people, miracle.... If you are taking carbicarb plus magnesium as recommended then this should be sufficient to bring your saliva and intracellular pH into alkaline. The one problem left could be in your diet. You have a high carb diet, and I have no idea how much calcium you are ingesting every day. I mention this because if you are taking in very large amounts of calcium then this is bad. Also check if your buckwheat is fortified with calcium. If it is, then eat more simple veggies and less buckwheat. All our food and grains -- milk, cheese, cornflakes, wheat, flour etc -- are over-fortified with excess calcium these days -- way too much. This excess calcium will acidify your cells and tissues and may well be what's causing your leg problems. You could also keep increasing your doses of magnesium until you get loose stools, then drop the dose back a little and continue the higher dose for a week or two to offset the excess calcium. This will work to balance/remove any excess calcium in your body and work to alkalize your saliva properly. But perhaps the real problem is diet.

Might also be an idea to get a simple hair analysis done -- this will tell you what minerals, heavy metals and halogens you might have in excess or are short of in your body -- this analysis doesn't cost much and it may well provide a better pointer to your problems."

As always, thanks for ur feedback. A few hours before reading your response I drunk magnesium itself without taking calcium (as I always do) and my legs pain was gone within 20 seconds! I was actually able to go for quite a long walk. I was shocked! ?. Of course the idea of too much calcium was from this website, I read about it under fibromyalgia comments. I started worrying that I have fibromyalgia as the muscle weakness started in the upper body and now my legs. But it look like it was all due to my bad diet (which I hoped for). You are right I was eating lots of carbs and meat for almost 4 years (50/50). I was low on most of nutrients and vitamins, I checked that on this Calorie Counter website. For almost 4 years I was receiving from my diet 40% of potassium, magnesium and calcium, almost 20% Vit E and so on. Now my diet is much better (70% of good fat oils etc, 10% carbs and rest protein). For the last few weeks I was also taking 500mg calcium citrate with 500 mg magnesium citrate plus carbicarb. I realized after reading many comments from you and Ted that calcium could be a problem. It worked. There is only one thing I cant understand. A few months ago I was taking lots of magnesium in pills (Magnesium as oxide and as sulfate dried) about 500mg daily but it did not really work on a long run. My diet was bad at that time and probably that is why the magnesium itself did not work well. I could feel it flowing through my blood, thinning my blood but the stiffness would still be there. I was missing something more - maybe it was potassium! ?. Anyway, now I am taking everything and less calcium. I see how I go. Will do the hair analysis to see what is happening. I did blood work but all was good, not very accurate I guess. I read somewhere that if you have pain in the left side it is calcium deficiency if right magnesium. I have developed a lot of weakness in the left upper back (trap muscle) to the point where I can no longer sit without feeling weakness but it look like it is due to my bad diet. I wish I found that website earlier. One more question, is it okay to add lime to the carbicarb? Also, should I take magnesium with carbicarb or with food? Could not find anything regarding magnesium intake on the web."

I did this too, I would have done anything to get rid of my candida -- and I did -- like you I changed my beloved eating habits. Made one heck of a difference, much healthier now. I'm not a vegetarian, I do not regard this as a natural diet for many reasons, but I am very careful about eating ANY processed food now -- this is the true enemy. Any food that has been constructed using chemicals unnatural to my body I avoid.

In answer to your questions:

One more question, is it okay to add lime to the carbicarb?

I would keep the lime/lemon with BS and carbicarb remedies seperate. I myself take the lemon/lime and baking soda remedy more often than the carbicarb remedy. I took the lemon/lime remedy three times a day with 1/2 tspn of BS when I had candida. This is my own favourite way of alkalizing which suited me best -- it creates citrates and ascorbates and satisfies many parameters. I take the carbicarb remedy if I feel I need stronger alkalization or if I can't sleep, if I've eaten or drunk something I shouldn't -- after all it's very hard to avoid chemically processed food now, and I enjoy eating out with friends -- and I have no idea how much processed food I am eating in some strange restaurant. Therefore, my way is constantly defensive now, I always alkalize after a situation like this or if I've had one over the top. Life wouldn't be much fun otherwise... LOL.

Also, should I take magnesium with carbicarb or with food?

No, never take alkalizing remedies with food, this will upset your acid stomach digestion. But it's OK to add magnesium to the carbicarb remedy, it won't interfere. Take these remedies at least one hour before meals or two hours after meals. I also always take minerals or vitamin outside mealtimes because if you take them with meals you lose 1/3 through intestinal excretion. In other words you will absorb more minerals and water soluble vitamins(like Vit C) if you take them outside mealtimes. The exceptions to this rule are Vitamins A, D & E which are oils and therefore best taken with food for proper digestion.

Regarding magnesium -- I now take magnesium transdermally mostly through the skin because I find this is easier. Using Magnesium Sulphate(Epsom Salts) or Magnesium Chloride -- these are very absorbable through the skin. Also, you can absorb far larger amounts of magnesium this way than supplementing -- because there are no intestinal problems to worry about -- it goes straight through the skin into the blood. I now use an ordinary small garden flower sprayer loaded with 3 tablespoons of epsom salts or mag chloride and, after showers, just spray it all over my body front and back and leave it to be absorbed. You will take in more magnesium this way than through the intestines for sure. You can also target and spray weak and sore areas of your back this way which will perhaps more effectively target and solve your problems quicker than ingesting magnesium. Cheaper too."

Although you can buy Mag Oil, I normally create my own -- all you need is magnesium chloride crystals and water. The mixture consists of 70%-80% mag chloride crystals plus 20%-30% water by volume. The dissolved mixture will feel oily. Rub this topically onto your painful/weak body areas for rapid transdermal absorbtion and you should feel the benefits very quickly. And if you like, you can also supplement with this Mag oil outside mealtimes -- 10 drops a day in a glass of water or juice."

I have no words that can describe how happy I am to find this website. Truly life changing experience. A few clarifications regarding my remedies and its effect.

1. You are 100% correct about Calcium/Magnesium problem. Since I started taking Magnesium my body grows like bread! Muscle going back to normal flexibility etc. I will buy the magnesium chloride and get the mixture to target these sore areas. Thank you for your advice. Taking it internally really gets me going to the toilet too much.

2. I also want to tell you that your are more than correct about the Lime/lemon with BS. carbicarb is not doing the job with Candida as much as BS with Lime for me. I noticed my skin going back to oily and Candida coming out through my skin again. As soon as I changed back to BS and Lime everything went back to they way it should be. I must say my gut feeling was telling me that this is the solution I needed, again I did not listen to my gut:-). Lemon does not work as good as lime either, amazing mate, amazing. I only hope it will stay that way, I know my body is getting better. Also, after what you have been through I can see I have a chance for a permanent improvement. It looks like we have been through a very similar experience.

As for DIET!! Ha ha, when I read your comments I was laughing, I so feel you mate! I just watched Jamie's Oliver kitchen and what the guy is trying to do in USA etc, God bless him. It is hard, especially to give up bread, I still cheat from time to time and get a bite here and there. Okay, I run to get some magnesium and fix my already better muscles. I caused a lot of muscle pulling I only hope it is not damaged too much and I will be able to go back to work soon. I lost all savings already, my Doctor signed a disability form to help me to pay my bills. He will be surprised when I go back to see him in a month.

By the way, do you know any good remedy for irritated colon? As I mentioned before I used myrrh a lot, I also used in in enema once and irritated my intestine in 2 places, I did colonoscopy and saw it red. I feel pain when food moves in those areas. It healed a bit and then I took lemon, Borax and some myrrh again and irritated it with one of these supplements. Now I only take BS and lime and it is better. One thing for sure Bill, I have never felt the way I feel now. I wonder what it will be like to remember things, I feel like I have Alzheimers. It has always been like that, at school mostly. Only recently I realized why. Pity that Doctors do not get it. I can only imagine how many diseases simple BS/lime can fix. My entire family has Candida issue, but I wait to fix myself and then give them the good news. Last one thing, the white discharge after taking BS or other Ted's solution is Sodium (I think). I read about this on the Gerson forum. His idea of diseases is caused by imbalance of sodium and potassium in body's cell. 08/21/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Robert... Regarding your sore colon, I've found the best for this to be Cat's Claw and/or Tumeric. Cat's Claw, like tumeric, is an amazingly protective herb for the whole intestine. Tumeric is specifically useful and protective for the colon, and also has wonderful effects on the skin. I use both now(I eat curries which contains tumeric as well as many other useful herbs) and I find that Cat's Claw keeps my bowel movements very regular now. Both are very gastro-protective, about as good as it gets for me. These two herbs are also significantly anticancer and anti-candida as well.

Your revelation of others in your family who have candida is also interesting. Remember that candida and other auto-immune diseases can be caused by where you live, as much as by diet. I remember a story that Ted relates about a large Thai family who all lived in a house in Bangkok. All the family had various forms of cancer, and where they lived was heavily infested with fungal infestations such as black mold. It wasn't their diet that was so much causing the cancer -- the black fungal mold spores were the real cause. Worth bearing in mind.

Funny what you say about Jamie Oliver. I watch him too... And I just drool!! ... LOL.

I used to have problems remembering stuff too, but after I started taking lugol's iodine, my memory seemed to come back. I was taking 2-4 drops of lugols whose effect seems to be to sharpen the mind. I normally just add the lugol drops to my daily dose of Ascorbic Acid(powder dissolved in water with sodium bicarb added -- converts it to the more alkaline ascorbates) -- The Ascorbic Acid converts all the iodine to iodide and you don't taste the iodine. Also, I've read from some research that when you take iodine together with vitamin c(megadose) this way, then the Ascorbic acid is converted to something called Dehydroascorbic acid. The latter has exactly the same properties as Ascobic acid and is also a valuable antioxidant -- except that the Dehydroascorbic acid can penetrate the blood/brain barrier easily whereas ascorbic acid cannot. Hence the benefit to the brain. I'm sure taking daily iodine with ascorbic acid this way will help with the forgetfulness and memory loss -- but it will take a couple of months to repair. Methylene Blue is also another good remedy that Ted recommends for Alzheimer's, and is also worth taking."

Measurements of my salivary and urinary pH have shown to be consistently alkaline. I'm not sure what exactly my saliva pH is but urinary is in the range of 7. 5-8. 0. Recently, I tried Ted's alkalizing recipes for a few days, and had a breakout of perioral dermatitis - don't think its related but just wanted to mention it. I also noticed that my skin is having some problems - red bumps under the eyes, little bumps on my hands, small raised bumps (regular skin color) on different places throughout my body. I've also always dealt with a skin condition on my hands and feet where the top skin starts separating from the bottom and I am able to peel off the top white skin. It looks like athletes foot with no itchiness or severe redness. I've also been experiencing fatigue and insomnia. Has anyone dealt with high pH levels and health problems, or was able to lower it back to normal? I've heard vitamin C can help?

06/04/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Joe...I have always preferred the lime/lemon and baking soda remedies myself, although I also use the ACV plus baking soda remedy fairly regularly. I alkalize normally 2 or 3 times a day, usually using 1/4 teaspoon BS. But if I'm ill, then I will always increase the baking soda to 1/2 teaspoon 3 times a day with the lime or lemon juice in half a glass of water.

Most of Ted's alkalizing remedy dosages are not set in concrete and are normally based on size or weight of the person involved -- Ted's remedies are all based on a 150 lb person. But I'm 200 lbs, have a large frame -- so alkalizing 3 times a day is OK for me. If I weighed less, then a reduced frequency or amount might better suit me. You will have to find your own level here.

The ACV alkalizing mix contains malate and acetate salts -- good for energy and a good antimicrobial. But the lemon and lime remedy contains citrates and at least 5% vitamin C -- the citrates help to regenerate the bicarbonates in you body, which therefore aids cellular respiration and also helps to further alkalize your body as well as aid digestion. Out of the two, my own preference is the lemon/lime remedy because it seems to me to be more balancing and complete -- and not least because it helped me to get rid of a longstanding intestinal candida problem that went on for years and therefore this alkalizing mix is a very effective anti-fungal. I have also lost over 20 lbs using this remedy and I'm now down to a more reasonable weight.

Regarding your weight problem -- alot of people would give their eye teeth too be thin...lol. Still, perhaps taking a magnesium supplement such as magnesium chloride, mag gluconate or mag citrate would best suit you. You can even take it transdermally using mag chloride or mag sulfate(epsom salts) as bath salts. Magnesium is a wonderful hormone balancer and is involved in over 300 enzyme reactions in your body. I've also been using borax for over a year now. Borax is perhaps the ultimate anti-fungal, also good for proper bone growth, hormone balancing and also very effective against mycoplasma and nanobacterial problems. I use borax regularly -- 1/4 teaspoon in a liter of water -- taken for 4 days and then take three days break.

I took it this morning & added 1/4 tsp Sodium Ascorbate. I took some supplements about 20 minutes later (selenium, 6000 iud of Vitamin D3 drops, 1 Digestive Gold Enzyme, and manganese asporotate) and my whole body broke out in a tingling red sunburn type hive for about an hour. What would make this happen? Did I take the supplements too soon after taking the ACV? If so, how long should I wait before taking any kind of supplements? I am 48 year female with sudden hair loss over the last 9 months and trying to find something to stop it before having to purchase a wig. Thanks for any help you can offer."
06/04/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Sunshine...Taking 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda(sodium bicarbonate) with ACV should do you no harm. But taking 1/4 teaspoon of sodium ascorbate at the same time might well overload your intestines with sodium. So best take these two at different times in the day -- at least an hour apart.

Taking Vitamin D and selenium together should be OK. But I would take the Digestive enzymes on there own or at mealtimes. I use digestive protease enzymes to aid my immune system, so I take them on their own, outside mealtimes.

And be careful with Manganese supplements, these should not be taken on a daily basis, but should be taken on an "as needed" basis ie not every day. Check Ted's opinion here:

Being already thin I'm trying to minimize this, which ordinarily would be a good problem. I thought is was the vinegar that facilitates this but i guess both remedies do this.

I'm going to buy some mag chloride to make the oil (skin application), but can the oil be taken orally too.

Do any of the alkalizing remedies or borax (1 liter), and Iodine remove the good flora in the GI too ?

Can one get the same benefit mixing 1/4 teaspoon of both Baking Soda and Potassuim Bicarb into 1 liter of water and drink thru the day? The 1 liter also has the Borax, Hydrogen Peroxide, sea salt mix. I'm trying to make it easier for my father to follow remedies. He has suspect kidney issues and I read bicarbs can help improve this.

I can't find lugols in decolorless 2%. Is it ok to use regular colorless iodine to apply topically for some skin moles, cysts?"

You should be able to combine the sodium and potassium bicarb remedy with the Borax, hydrogen peroxide and sea salt mix without problems. But the bicarb remedy should at least be taken twice a day, so it should be 1/2 tspn sodium bicarbonate and 1/2 tspn potassium bicarbonate that is added to your other mix(which represents two daily doses).

I always prefer to keep the bicarb remedy taken separate from any other remedies, and tend to take this now on an as needed basis."

I am measuring my pH level for few weeks and my pH level is close to 5.0 - 5.5 in the morning but during the day it rises to 6.5- 7.5 range. 05/20/2010: Ted from Bankok, Thailand replies: "The pH during the morning hour is acid, so I am assuming that's urine pH. To minimize the pH before it becomes acid, this means taking roughly 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda before sleep. This should reduce the morning acid pH. Then, if it's still acid, 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda may be taken again during the morning hours, preferably 30 minutes after meals, so that the alkalinity won't crash with the stomach acid that is about to digest some food. The body accepts alkalinity only after the food is digested, and hence it's taken after meal. If that's not possible it is taken first thing in the morning, before the hungry feeling goes up.

If we are talking about saliva pH, then it gets more complicated, a tripotassium citrate maybe needed to get it up along with some baking soda. Because the pH acidity is only temporary effects the morning hour, then a baking soda will do fine."

08/09/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "The exact formula is 1/4 teaspoon after meals 30 minutes, especially after lunch and after dinner. If the person is metabolically in acidosis (such as diabetes), it's 30 minutes after every meal. Before you sleep it helps with 1/2 teaspoon in a 1/2 to 1 full glass of water (I prefer 1 glass if possible) to have a good night sleep for most people. The lemon and baking soda, or more preferably lime and baking soda, is 1 1/2 tablespoon (that's the total lime juice in a single lime) and 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. This can be taken after every meal and before sleep also. Make sure you get some of the oils in the lime or lemon, although I prefer lime because it has more vitamin C and citric acid contents, which reacts with sodium bicarbonate to become sodium citrate, which is a metal and calcium chelator, and prevents cysts, and ORP is negative, which is desirable in humans, animals and plants. In fact this is the secret to plant growth too.

The lime will help some of your acne by clearing up the calcium buildup and some of the fats (lemon oil or lime oil) taken internally. They dissolve heavy fats very well. In fact there is another formula I'm working on, which is lemon oil with potassium citrate. This will dissolve the lemon oil and get the blood vessels of the capillaries to clear out the fats so you get less acne as a result, but it also clears up lipid peroxidation of fat deposits around the acne and pores, but also anywhere in the body too. That means internal, such as gallstones (they are cholesterol but appear hard as a rock) can be dissolved.

Although alkalizing is highly beneficial for the body, when you actually take these remedies is fairly critical depending on the problem that you have. Furthermore your supposition that acid stomach = alkaline blood needs more careful explanation.

When you eat fruit such as citrus fruits -- this is initially an acid food. So how does it become alkaline for the blood? The stomach initially digests food in an acid medium -- and the fruit juices will add to the acid(contains citric acid and ascorbic acid). Then, once stomach digestion is finished, the stomach chyme is passed through to the duodenum or small intestine where the second stage digestion medium must change to alkaline for the panreatic enzymes to work. To achieve this, the pancreas secretes its digestive enzymes in a bicarbonate solution. When this bicarbonate solution reacts with all the acid chyme, the result is the formation of citrate and ascorbate chemical salts(alkaline) from the fruits. And only when the necessary alkaline pH is achieved will the pancreatic enzymes be able to do their job and the citrates and ascorbates from the fruit are also then healthily absorbed into the blood as useful alkaline chemical salts. But if the digesytion medium remains acid -- then the pancreatic enzymes are unable to do their job, the food remains undigested and stagnates in the gut helping to fast-breed harmful pathogens.

So it becomes obvious that if you continuously eat too many and too much acid foods at mealtimes -- whose acidity always have to be neutralized in the duodenum stage of digestion, then the pancreas might be incapable of secreting enough bicarbs -- due to insufficient stores of bicarbonates -- to neutralize the acid food. Hence, the food remains acid, bad bacteria flourish and you get ill with a mulitude of diseases like IBS, Leaky Gut, Colitis or Candida due to a perpetually acid gut which, over time, also leads to an overall acid body condition. So, by taking Sodium Bicarbonate a half an hour after you eat -- you are greatly helping to aid and achieve the alkaline medium necessaqry for proper duodenal enzyme digestion to occur.

I have also noticed that whenever I eat alot of fruit (too much!! ) with a normal meal -- I sometimes get a hot acid feeling in my stomach about a half an hour afterwards. This is the duodenum letting me know -- saying "I can't cope with all this acid!! ". So I just take 1/4 to 1/2 tspn of Sodium Bicarbonate in a glass of water and this problem is cured within minutes and my digestion becomes normal again. For some reason, GERD sufferers are particularly prone to this problem and, in their case, can occur many hours after they have eaten their evening meal when they are trying to sleep. This also illustrates how over-acid foods greatly work to slow down food digestion and movement in the gut causing many more problems. The essential problem here is twofold -- eating too much acid foods and/or a lack of bicarbonate stores in the pancreas.

To cure the acid stomach problem(symptom) is easy as I have described but to cure the root problem means that the bicarbonate stores in the pancreas must be replenished for normal digestion to occur. And the best way of doing this is take 1/4 to 1/2 tspn of Sodium Bicarbonate in a half glass of water twice a day outside mealtimes -- when most of the bicarbonate is absorbed by the body alkalizing the blood or by taking SB half an hour after a meal to help aid alkaline digestion. Not only does this beneficially alkalize the blood, this also helps to replenish the bicarbonate stores in the pancreas necessary to support proper and robust alkaline gut digestion.

I am not sure why people are so wary of taking sodium bicarbonate. Many still claim that it wrecks the stomach digestion which should be acid. Yes, the stomach is acid -- but only at mealtimes when you feel hungry -- that is when stomach acid is produced. After a meal, when hunger has been satiated and the stomach is empty, the leftover acid in the stomach is re-absorbed and there are even stomach cells that secrete bicarbonates to neutralize any leftover acid. Furthermore, outside mealtimes, mucus is acumulated in the stomach from the nose, throat etc which lines and protects the stomach. Thus taking bicarbonates in this way -- outside mealtimes -- will not harm the stomach.

I am also amazed that many will criticize such a simple body-friendly remedy like baking soda and water, but these same people will perhaps happily take Tums, Prevacid, Zantac. PPIs etc at the drop of a hat (as doctors always recommend), even though these drugs have a very poor cure record (I'm talking about curing the main problem -- not just the symptoms).

Taking SB with water will help alkalizie the blood and aids digestion. But the intracellular environment also needs to be alkalizied to fully accomplish a completely alkalized body terrain. This is why Ted uses ACV, Lime/Lemon etc together with baking soda to maintain the elctrochemical health of the body's intacellular environment. So to fully alkalize the whole body, this is why both methods should be used to achieve a healthful and beneficial outcome."

I think I read somewhere that it is because I am sodium sensitive. When I take it with Apple cider vinegar and a pinch of potassium I am ok. I think because the potassium balances the sodium out for me. I'm glad I can take it as long as I do this. I'm also sensitive to chromium and have to urinate a lot when I take it or any multi-vitamin that has 200 mcg of chromium in it. I also get very hyper on flax oil. The rest of the supplements I seem to do ok on.

One supplement in question I have to test more is blackstrap molasses and iodine. I take the BSM in the morning and started a drop of the iodine in the evening. Not sure which one is causing heart palpitations at night but when I stopped both time to time (not intentionally - just too busy to remember to take) then I don't usually get the heart palpitations when I lie down. Perhaps it's something else, I will see with further testing."

However, I am still a little concerned about taking baking soda. Here is why: I have a slight case of the mouth thrush and I keep it under control most of the time by eating well. Here is what doesn't fit into your theory.... I have tried taking baking soda on one occasion and lemon juice on another (away from meals) to alkalize my system; however, after both of these times I could almost see the thrush growing in front of my eyes in the mirror. My tongue gets covered with white patches immediately and they expand and I also get a pretty bad brain fog. The only other time I experience such symptoms is when I eat sweets or a lot of sweet fruit, such as an apple or a watermelon.

04/30/2012: Jervais from Port Of Spain, Caribbean replies: "Hi Ted, I've just started trying the Baking Soda formula last night but there are a few questions I would like to ask. By half a glass, do you mean half a cup? And should I take it on an empty stomach? Last night I ate right before going to bed so I took the baking soda right after, I dunno if that was a good idea. Also, is it safe to continue taking baking soda for as long as I need? I am 21yrs old and have had serious problems with my chest. The left side is swollen, or gets swollen everytime I exercise. Sometimes it hurts for no reason. No over my heart, the entire left chest muscle. Sometime it gets firm as well. This has prevented me from working out as after I get into the groove of my workouts I start to feel my left chest muscle hurting. I also feel light headed and to throw up badly everytime I exercise, and the discomfort sometimes leaves my chest muscle and travels down my left arm. I thought it was my heart but I've done x-rays, blood tests, and MRA tests more than once that all come back saying my heart's healthy. The one thing the MRA showed that the others didn't however, was that my ph was 6.9 or slightly over 6.8. I'm starting to believe my problems are because of my acidity and I can't afford kangen water in the amounts I need it. I started eating healthy instead of buying bread etc, but I couldn't afford to keep that up on my budget either, since I'm paying my way through college.

Then I saw this site. Baking soda, now that I can afford lol. I've had this problem for years and it's affecting my life badly. I want to be able to workout but my body won't let me. Is there any other test I need to take to know if it's my heart? Or is it safe to try dealing with my acid now? Sometimes when I eat and belch, I feel bile rise up in my throat and goes back down. I get muscle spasms as well. After researching, I believe my problem is acid. Hope to get a reply to my questions soon, and hope the remedy works :) Thanks for putting this info out there."

I needed a breathing tube and oxygen tank which we happen to have in our home for exercising. Normal pH of the blood is a between 7.35 to 7.45. This helps keep all the organs functioning properly. Consider just eating an alkalizing diet. Please read and follow the guidelines for alkalyzing carefully."

I am Suwanna, I live in Khonkaen. Someone suggests me about your website that you heal many people who have health problem.

I am interested in the Alkalizing Formulas but I dont know which one is suit for me. I have had SLE Thalassemia Annemia for 10 years. I suffer with it alot. I take 2 pills of steroid everyday and seems I can not deduct it to be 1 or a half pill. I have tried to take it to 1 pill but I m worse and losing my hair alot and pain on the joints of my hands.

Now I have vasculitis on my fingers on my both hands, really hurt, can not touch well.

At the risk of repeating myself so often, I would say that green vegetable juice is not only completely alkalizing to the body, it will heal you of your ailments, I am certain. The vasculitis is your body unable to process quickly enough the toxicity in it. Also, your anemia will be corrected as the chlorophyll is the to the plant as our blood is to our body. Your joint pain will disappear and over time your hair will be restored to health. I really do hope this helps you. 04/24/2010: Alkalyzing from Louisville, Kentucky replies: "Dear Suwanna, The alkalyzing drink that I use calls for 1 T. unsulfured black strap molasses, 1 T. fresh lemon juice or organic apple cider vinegar, pinch of epson salts, 1 tsp. powdered kelp (build up to 1 T.)and 1 T. lime water.

Lime Water: Purchase Pickling Lime, I use Mrs. Wages brand, add 1 T. to one gallon of filtered water, shake up, and take out the one tablespoon (or amount you require) for your drink each time.

I drink this three times a day, you can adjust the items as needed, I am low on sodium so I only use 1 tsp. of the black strap molasses per drink, and have built up to 2 tsp. of kelp per drink so far. I also adjust the lime water (calcium) because my calcium stores are also low. I'm currently using 2-3 T. of lime water per drink.
