Turmeric is undoubtedly one of the aces in ayurvedic medicine. I've seen my grandmother & then mother using turmeric for variety of skin problems & wounds, trust me it does work immaterial of what this modern day medicine claims. For those who find ingesting turmeric really difficult can boil a spoonful of turmeric in a glass of milk (sugar to taste) and drink it. It tastes great, try it!

i tried taking powder of turmeric -- it has been a great thing for the skin and my menopause symptoms are going smooth. Turmeric is best of all the spices -- good for all the ailments basically inside the body and physically also.

Nausea, Cluster Headaches

Turmeric fixed my daily, mediction hardy nausea in days, and my cluster headaches in just 14 days.

i have been using 1 tsp of Turmeric, with a little black, and Cheyenne pepper, 1/20 tsp, as well as Olive oil, 1 tbsp, mixed in a little warm water, twice a day, and have been completely cured of persistent, medical hardy nausea, from which I suffered daily for many years, up to 12 hours of each day.

Also my often severe cluster head aches, that came daily at the same time, lasting up to 6 hours, have been completely cured, using Turmeric for just a few weeks. (Each day, from day one, the pain became less severe, and the duration of the head aches shorter.)

Fatty Liver

I have had Liver pain for last six years. Ultrasound showed I have fatty liver which is the side effect of Hormone replacement pills I was on for years. I tried milk thistle and couple other supplements they didn't help.I have started taking 1/4 of tsp of turmeric powder with oil or peanut butter. My triglyceride and liver enzymes showed normal in last two blood tests. After years of suffering, I finally feel relief. However, turmeric made my blood pressure drop so now I take it cautiously. Turmeric is apparently absorbed better by our body if taken with oil and black pepper and it also brings down your sugar level and is blood thinner too. I suggest do your own research.

Turmeric is supposed to reduce inflammation. I don't understand why it would cause bleeding. When my fingers cracked and were very sore from eating warmed left-over beef, turmeric reduced the inflammation and soreness on ingestion.

In the Nutrition Almanac ginger is also reported to reduce inflammation and is listed as an antibiotic. Gnger also ranks high in anticancer activity. Cayenne will stop bleeding. I would try mixing the two. Maybe 1/4 tsp. ginger to 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper every 3 or 4 hrs. in about 1/3 C water. Just a guess...

I have mixed turmeric and cayenne pepper, depending on what is going on with me at the time. Everyone responds differently.

Wishing you the best...

It could be from the capsules. Open the capsules, sprinkle on food and take powdered ginger with it. They are both anti-inflammatory spices and the Nutrition Almanac reports ginger contains an antidepressant ingredient that may help.

Homemade Turmeric Extract
Posted by Rsw (Oh) on 10/30/2017

Thank you, MTM! I doubt that I would ever have tried this if you hadn't mentioned your homemade tinctures on Earth Clinic! It is looking fairly dark, so I am telling myself it will be nice and strong. I think the dark brown glass container would be good for the long term, so I will use that. I really appreciate your experienced tips, because I didn't want to ruin it on the homestretch! I will strain it through the cloth and a coffee filter, as you advise. I think I will wait until the end of the week, so it will be almost five weeks since it was started. I will post my reaction to it after I take it for a couple of weeks. You are such a blessing to all of us on this site! Thank you so much.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I've been taking 500 mg of Turmeric-Curcumin 500 mg a day capsule, the brand is available over the counter. It helped with arthritis pain in my knee within a week. But by the third week, I was starting to feel, at certain times of the time, a little weird. Similar to the overall feeling I felt when I was on Zoloft for several months about twenty years ago. Not dizzy exactly. A little pumped up. Not in a dangerous way, and it continued as I kept taking the same dosage for three more days - I have now decided to quit taking Turmeric-curcumin, which I regret because it was helping with the inflammation. I don't know why it did this. My family doctor okayed me taking it and said it couldn't hurt me since it's all natural. Any ideas why I felt this way? The effect wears off by late afternoon. I'm definitely going to stop taking it because I don't like feeling out of myself. Not dizzy exactly. Not dangerous. Just a little off.

Could be that a filler in the turmeric capsule is an issue, or pesticides in the turmeric.

Consider adding organic turmeric to some milk instead.

I am sorry this is a late reply. I just saw this post.

You could be having a problem with the capsule itself. In production of the capsules a manufactured glutamic acid is created and another source of hidden MSG.

I cannot ingest capsules because of that. I open them and pour out contents. If I take a gel cap I bite it to remove contents.

I read that 1/2 tsp of turmeric will cause constipation. Try 1/4 tsp with 1/8 tsp ginger.

For those who think turmeric is causing them problems, try taking it without the capsule.

Just an update...been experimenting with equal parts of turmeric, ginger and garlic powder or chopping up a garlic clove, swallowing tiny parts whole with a tea made from ginger and/or turmeric.

No reply for combining garlic and cayenne so I alternate cayenne with ginger and turmeric. My insides are not normal due to adhesions...trying to keep things moving and avoid infection because of lesions and ruptured lining.

If anyone knows if this is not a wise thing to do, please let me know.

I am sorry for all the pain your daughter is going thru and good for you not giving up and for being such a great mom.

I don't know if this would help, and please check to make sure it is safe for her to do the following. I had a tooth infection and I put goldenseal, sprinkled from a capsule on it, and brushed the area, and put some in a tea bag and put it on the infection. ( I also brushed the area with kosher salt and gargled with salt water, however it only got better when I used goldenseal. ) In 2 or 3 days infection was gone.

She might want to also take it internally, but make sure it is safe for her to do so.

Good luck to you both and I will keep you in my prayers.

Gillian

Gurlith, Hi. I am having a similar reaction and I know it was the tumeric. I took 1 teaspoon three times in one day with almond milk and a sprinkle of pepper. The next day I took 1 teaspoon the same way. By 2:00pm I started experiencing fatigue and then muscle pain, diahhrea, constipation and felt wretched. I saw that Gavin ( a frequent poster) mentioned that too much tumeric can cause symptoms similar to mild chemo. And that's definitely how bad I feel. That was Sunday and it's Monday evening and I still feel pretty rough. I couldn't even go in to work today. Drinking distilled water and hope to be better soon. I wanted to reply to Gavin's post (from 2011 I think) but couldn't find it. No offence to tumeric, I'm still going to use it... once I recover, but scaling way back to like 1/2- 1tsp 3x/wk. FYI I'm female age 43, 110lbs. Best wishes everyone.

WARNING!

Hello All ~ I am so happy to hear that tumeric has helped nearly all of you... It is a very beneficial herb. However, I must tell you that if you are using tumeric, never, ever get the powder into your eyes. I did that accidentally while putting tumeric into capsules for a friend of mine, and apparently I did not wash my hands thoroughly enough, and I started rubbing my eyes and it took a week for me to finally find some relief. It resulted in swelling, burning and itching! You may ingest it fine with no problem, but never let it get into your eyes especially via rubbing with unwashed hands! Overall though it is a very important beneficial herb. Hope this helps you... God bless and good health to all!!!

I am, in Ayurvedic lingo, pitta, even pitta imbalanced. If I take turmeric, it makes my pitta imbalance worse and I become irritable and my insomnia is aggravated and I get all kinds of other symptoms typical of pitta imbalance. For my wife, who is pitta weak, turmeric is perfect and balances her and helps her a lot.

Turmeric Pill Ingredients
Posted by Amandav (Mastic Beach, Ny Usa) on 09/15/2011
★☆☆☆☆

WARNING!

Any additives that you find in encapsulated herbals is inevitably going to be a "flow agent", or "packing agent". The flow agents allow the herb to travel through a hopper and into the capsules during the manufacturing process. It also helps the machine in that the parts do not get clogged up as much. The packing agents are for powders that are too slick - where they just fall all over and cannot be controlled. By adding rice or maltodextrin, the powder gets stickier and will pack into the capsules much more readily.

All manufacturers/encapsulators must follow strict FDA guidelines. Any additive must be at a very low percentage - so much so that a person's body will not exhibit side effects. These ingredients are listed as "inactive" so that persons with known allergies can avoid them.

I know, because I worked for NBTY (Nature's Bounty and Vitamin World) for many years.

I must say.... I have been taking tumeric during my period and I have never had so much thick clotting and blood. I would not suggest it. The only reason I was taking it was to reduce inflammation from the adjustment. It happened to be the same time as my period.... Stay clear during your period. You don't need any extra detoxification during your period anyway. Our bodies natural cleansing process will be all we need during the menstral cycle.

I am using Turmeric powder with honey for my cough and astama for last two months. My cough as well as my astama has very much subsided. However, I have developed mouth ulcers and stomach feels always bloated. Now I am taking B complex for mouth ulcers. I strongly believe the mouth ulcers are formed due to consumption of turmeric powder as my husband aslo has doveloped the same after using turmeric powder. This is for the information of all readers of earth clinic. Deepti.

Golden Milk is great and cheap way to get the turmeric into the body vs. buying pills. You can make the first part, the turmeric paste, in a larger amount and store it in the refrigerator for a weeks supply. Then just add to the milk and oil. We would drink this after doing yoga for 8 hours a day and no joint pain in the morning.

Briana, Thank you for your recipe! ! I just started taking BSM a couple of days ago and did not know how I was going to continue with it because the taste is so strong it makes me gag. All I could think of when I consumed it was burnt rubber. . . Yuck! I tried your recipe and it was actually pretty good and quite enjoyable. . . Much, much more tolerable than taking it straight. Peace, Love and Health to you!

Having said that, turmeric is easily assimilated by the body if mixed with warm milk, you can also add pepper to it as it's known to be good in combination with turmeric. I use it for my face - mix it with yoghurt and half teaspoon- apply, leave for half an hour and wash(several washing might be needed).

Turmeric root (raw) is easily available (inexpensive) from indian grocery stores. You can make your own powder if you have a dehydrator. Dry and grind to a fine powder.

I've also heard that apricot seeds, bitter, raw are also excellent for MM as well as putting H2O2 aka hydrogen peroxide straight on the lesion. As for the apricot seeds, start out with 5/dly and then extend up to 20 throughout the day.

Fatigue
Posted by Gean (Salina, KS) on 06/13/2009

I had the same experience, and so did two other people I know. For a few days (3 or 4) I felt great with only a few hours of sleep, and then I started to feel unwell and confused. My friend became irritable and emotional. I had to cut way down on the turmeric dosage. It must work as a stimulant, maybe. I started going up on the dosage again, and then when it started to keep me up at night (or wake me up at odd hours) I would take a break from it. Experiment to see how much you can take without losing sleep. Believe me, it will catch up with you.

Bunions

Turmeric cure for bunion pain. Rub dried turmeric spice directly on the bunion for relief. You can also take turmeric pills internally to reduce inflammation but I have not tried that yet. It is a bit messy to rub it on so I do it over the bathroom sink and use a plastic glove so that my hand does not turn yellow. I need to reapply every few days to keep the pain away. It is an easy remedy. You can buy Turmeric cheaply in bulk at the health food stores or in the spice aisle of the grocery store.
