Why Lugol's Iodine is Essential for Optimal Health

I started taking iodine internally, namely Lugol's iodine, two days ago. Only using 2 drops per day. My blood sugars are much higher than normal. Before using the Lugol's, I simply was painting regular iodine on my skin of which I purchased at CVS drugstore in the first aid section. What could be causing the Lugol's to raise my blood sugars? Perhaps I should stop taking it or maybe try using it transdermally? Thanks, signed Baffled

Here is a remedy that's been around quite a long time. It stops Salmonella poisoning immediately. Also used to treat Giardia. If you have gas and bloating and suspect Salmonella poisoning, here's the recipe:

• 1/2 glass of water.
• Add 6 drops of Lugol's Iodine Solution.
• Stir and drink in entirety.

You will feel better within an hour. Take this 4x a day, after meals and at bedtime, for 3 days in a row, then as needed.

For the last 4 months I have been on iodine worked up to 50mg daily (lugols) blood test awaiting for complete thyroid check. Along with companion nutrients (selenium, vit c) along with mag/cal/boron/, lysine, b complex and naicin, omega 3/6 ratio correction in my diet and removed as much fluoride and bromide as possible (reverse osmosis) less processed food. My transformation has been amazing. I was 105, and now down to 85, my skin is repairing from the sun damage, face sunspots are peeling from lips, cheeks, arms. I now sleep without waking during the night, my body temp now regulates correctly.

I started my father on the same diet, he's got a history of high blood pressure and cholesterol, now after 1 months his blood pressure is normal and cholesterol is now within normal range. I have achieved this with no extra exercise, other than my daily job. The last time I lost weight with the gym and just eating "well" made me tired and I just gained the weight again, I am 25 years old and I feel the benefit everyday from this very powerful supplement, being tired at the end of the day is a thing from the past, no brain fog, just clean thinking.

I have been supplementing with iodine for almost a month. I started at 25mg and now I am at 100mg. Iodine has helped me lose my problem with cold legs in an 80 deg F. room when I was in bed. No more cold legs. Also a long time problem with postnasal drip is gone. My brain seems to be working in a clearer fashion and my vision is much better. It really seems that every facet of my health has been improved. I use Iodoral, Iosol, and potassium iodide now but will eventually use Lugol's (liquid iodine) at home and Iodoral (tablet version of Lugol's) when travelling.

BTW, I don't think I will go higher than 100mg as I am getting very good results now. I don't worry about ODing at all. Please Google "Dr.Brownstein and iodine" for more info. You do need to take companion supplements like magnesium, zinc, lipoic acid, vitamins B C D E K, selenium, fish oil, zeolite, chlorella, to help with the detox that high levels of iodine will force to happen. I have been taking lugol's solution for a few months now. I don't have any particular health issues per se, so am basically taking it for overall health. I did notice that after a while my breast has become sore even after my period has come and gone. It is basically sore all day and I am not pregnant. My worry is that it is coming from the Lugol's solution. Has anyone else exereinced this if so what is the cause? I thought that iodine was supposed to help with breast pain.

I've been taking Lugols solution of Iodine, 1 drop in 1cup of water every morning with my morning meal for the past 35 years. I am 85 years and 5 months old and I believe Lugol has kept me fairly healthy in those years and will continue taking it until the Lord calls me home

Hi, I seem to remember someone on this site mentioning that you can tell you are allergic to iodine if you get itchy or watery eyes. I get this side effect myself, so I use the least amount that's helpful. Hopefully you'll find an answer to this problem.

Hi Alicia... I don't think you are taking iodine in excess -- you are taking, in effect, only about 32 mgs per day(of 2% Lugol's Iodine).

I think your eye burning problem is more problably caused by niacin excess or overdose:

"Symptoms of overdose of Niacin (B3) include: whole flushing of the body, burning sensation in the eyes, ears, nose, and throat, blurred vision, skin itching, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, lightheadedness."

You may be getting enough niacin in your diet -- try taking niacin once every two or three days for a while or even eliminating it altogether to see if that makes a difference.

Thank You for the wonderful information on this website; it is a great resource~ I recently have started supplementation for iodine in the past month and I have noticed a symptom that I am concerned about: burning eyes. Is there a connection between iodine supplementing and this? I am taking all the companion supplements. However, 500 mg of niacin is a little too strong for me at this point, so I am taking 100 mg 2 x/day instead of 500 mg/2 x day. I was taking 4 drops of Lugol's 2% initially, bumped that up to 4 drops 2 x/day and just went up to 6 drops/2 x day. Is this too much? I had detox symptoms before taking the companion supplements, now the eyes seem to be my main issue. If anyone has helpful advice or guidelines, I would love to know.

I like to point out a link on curezone concerning the shelf life of lugol because I really think that some pharmacists want you to discard the product early so you can buy more often. lugol made with distilled water can last for years! I came down with a cold on a Friday. Used 1 drop of Lugol's in a glass of water 4 x that day then increased to 2 drops the next and 3 drops the third day. By Monday the cold was gone. Hope this helps.

In 1986 when I had a gall bladder scan, I was given iodine tablets. I had a reaction--eyes swelled shut and face swelled as well. Do not remember having any respiratory issues.

I since have eaten shellfish, use salt, etc. without any allergic reactions.

Having been told I had an allergic reaction to the tablets, do you think I could also have allergy issues with the Lugol's Iodine?

I have been reading about the health benefits of Lugol's and very much want to try it. I am having a lot of health issues (breast cancer being one) and believe that it could help me. I am on Armor Thyroid right now as well.

Lugol's has a shelf life of 1 month after being prepared. I keep mine in the fridge door too to slow oxidation. It has also stopped my huge allergy type reactions to every change in the weather - wind, rain.

A pharmacy prepared a bottle of Lugols for me no problem for 2.60 euro but another pharmacie were very unlightened and cautious and another pharmacist assured me that I couldn't take it internally! I told my doctor who seemed completely uninterested but results were quick; my severly chapped lips have healed, skin gradually less itchy, hair even seems to be changing (sebaceous glands) and eyes less sensitive. As far as female gland activity well lets say that its high tide!

My 5year old daughter had a severe case of molluscum contagiosum. She started with about 10 of the warts on her buttocks, and they started multiplying and spreading very fast. Within a year she had I estimate over a hundred all down her legs. And my 3 other children started to get them too. I freaked out. Twice I went to the doctor, and both times he told me to let it run its course. Yeah right; that was what I did for a year and look what happened! And what if it spread to my newborn baby? My daughter was getting self conscious, you could see them on her legs under her school uniform. I had to do something. I tried ACV, clay baths, a product from the chemist for warts, Epsom salts and olive oil mixed with lemon myrtle essential oil, or even pulling them out with tweezers. Nothing worked.

I then tried Lugol's iodine, and the little buggers started to crust over after 3 days of applying Lugols twice a day with a Q-tip, and when the crust fell off, nothing was underneath!

You could actually see the white center (that is the virus) soak all the iodine up and look like a blackhead, YEAH! That's exactly where the iodine needed to go. Within one month all my children are Mollusum free. You cannot describe the relief I feel, I have to share that.

I would like to know how did you use the iodine for keloid scars??

I have used lugols Iodine for many years, for different ailments such as skin tags, detox for all unwanted chemicals in my body, keloids removal, cuts, grazes, and other wounds. I also use it if I feel a bit out of sorts, down, lacking in energy. I use non-ingestable Iodine for all other ailments and have done sine I was a child and learnt from my mother. I am 66 yrs old and am still working. If I find I may have eaten or drunk stuff with nasties in it I detox and use 6 drops of lugols in a glass of water daily for a couple of days. That does the trick for me, other wise I have a glass of water with 2 drops daily for good health.

There still seems to be some confusion or disinfo here about the legal availability of original 5% Lugol's Iodine solution in the USA from retailers since August 2007.

One internet retailer has the actual 2007 DEA notice up, which clearly states that it still is legal in USA, after August 1 2007, to buy up to 1 30-ml bottle of original 5% strength Lugol's per person per transaction or shipment (that is,the aqueous 5%/10% mixture of the 2 forms of iodine called Lugol's since the early 1800's):

Food Poisoning, Salmonella, Flu, Shigella

Lugol's Iodine (not a brand but a type, not readily available anymore) for Food Poisoning, Salmonella, and/or Shigella & baby parasites & FUNGUS, plus arthritis etc. based on actual experiences & research. See Hulda Clark's "A Cure for All Disease" and "A Cure for All Cancer" and the website about Cancer is a fungus and you can see why this is an ingredient every home should have.

For food poisoning/S/Sh take 6 drops in a 1/2 glass of water to repeat 20 min later and again if needed.

This was used on a health food employee that became acutely ill after eating a (tainted) salad, probabally the sprouts. It worked like a charm. Also, I became very sick (nausea/vomiting) after eating out and went home and did this and had no more problems. I later found out that a friend that had eaten what I had ended up in the hospital for 4 days on IVs and came out of it with lingering effects!!! My dentist told me that it is the best for any kind of infection in the mouth. Iodine adheres to tissue (seen with how it stains) and therefore stays in the designated area (stomach for oral or mouth for topical).

Canada has not clamped down yet on the miracle of iodine. It requires no prescription either. Lugol's 5% or Dr Greenbergs colourless.

LUGOL'S COMES IN MANY % STRENGTHS: In Canada we can still get 5%, nowhere else anymore that I have found. Brown iodine by Lugol's is comprised of both iodine & iodide. Iodine is a black crystalline structure, hence the colour. Iodide is what a chemist creates when they add potassium to iodine, as I understand it. This creates a salt or white crystalline structure, so potassium iodide is colourless. Also good for application to places that would show iodine staining & still good for you. Dr Greenberg's is one type of health potassium iodide which can be taken internally & is almost tasteless. Four to five drops five days a week, then none for two days. I ordered it from Finlandia, Vancouver, B.C. I am using it to shrink lymphoma enlarged nodes. Do not EVER take any tincture of iodine internally as it contains isopropyl alcohol & it is NOT meant for internal use. Lugol's is already only available elsewhere @ a far lower %, except (so far) still 5% in Canada, I have checked this out. In New Zealand, for instance, I understand they reduced it to 0.04%!! Almost useless. It is worth sending for, a true miracle cure for so many things, including lowering cholesterol, anti-inflammation for heart disease, arthritis, antidote for flu, as little as one drop in a full glass of water. Get an extra cap as the rubber stopper allows the strength to dissipate into the air over time. Lugol's is the original folk remedy, hence a threat to Big Pharma as it is the most utterly affordable versatile cure for so many things, since it is an anti fungal, & antiviral & chelates heavy metals like mercury fillings, & it is anti parasitic, iodine is one of the best things on this earth! Cancer is likely fungal/viral in origin. Worked for me! BTW ROOT CANALS are the perfect hiding place for disease causing microbes, & can also cause cancer & make cancer return. Get rid of these festering causes of disease asap.

I have Sjogren's Disease (Syndrome) and am drying from the inside out, particularly afraid it will dry my internal organs. I have very dry mouth, and severely dry eyes right now, and I don't want this to progress. I am wondering if you are still having good luck with this 2-3% solution 3X/day? Are you using Lugol's? If not, what brand are you using and can I get it without a prescription?

I finally got a chemist to order me a bottle of lugols iodine ( I hate buying on the internet ). What I've received is Lugols Iodine but even though I specified colorless the only one he could get me is colored. The description on the bottle is " Lugols iodine B.P. - aqueous iodine oral solution - for nutritional supplementation of iodine only - each ml contains 126 mg of iodine derived from iodine and potassium iodide." It then goes on to state that it is for animals only and to paint or spray it on the animals skin and how to orally supplement the animals watering trough as well.

My question is is this the same iodine that people orally supplement with just with an ability to stain?

The alcohol in the idodine solution is probably methyl (wood) alcohol, or denatured in some way, and must not be taken internally because it is poisonous. The law does not allow ethyl (drinkable) alcohol to be used in any products like antiseptics or cosmetics.

Is this like Lugol's?

At the local grocery store, I stumbled on two little bottle of "Iodine Tincture USP" and I'm wondering if this is like Lugol's. Under active ingredients it says, "Iodine tincture U.S.P. 100% (2% iodine)...... First aid antiseptic. It doesn't say what else is in it, no secret peel-back label, and the product's website was minimal and unhelpful. Naturally the bottle declares it for external use only, with a cute little red scull and crossbones on the front of the label. Is the USP 100% some kind of standard wherein it would be possible to ascertain any additional unmentioned ingredients?

This is one of those mysterious happenings, actually. I was wandering through town aimlessly, and figured I'd wander through the grocery store. I was feeling very aimless. Looking through the shelves of pharmacy offerings I began looking for items Ted had mentioned. Potassium Citrate contained sucrolose..... I perused the shelves for several minutes. Then, stashed behind some hanging items were two little bottle of iodine, similar to the kind I'd been meaning to buy online. I failed to find the price on the shelves, as well as any additional bottles. The clerk scanned them at about $3 each. I felt less aimless. Went home.
