Natural Remedies for MRSA: Effective Solutions for Infection Control

Manuka Honey
Posted by Joanne (Victoria, BC Canada) on 10/21/2006

Manuka honey is being used in many places (UK, Australia, New Zealand) for treatment of MRSA. One teaspoon morning and night for prevention and up to 3 tsp. once or twice a day for an internal infection. It can also be used topically to stop skin infection, 50/50 with water in an atomizer for chest infections, along with many other uses. One potential reason for its effectiveness may be the existence of small amount of naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide in the honey, although researchers put it down to "Manuka factor," an unknown active ingredient.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Witch Hazel With Tea Tree Oil

hydrogen Peroxide/witch hazel combo with Tee Tree Oil cured a Spider Bite/MRSA infection due to bite. My knee had this red itching bite on it. By the time I had let it go on I awoke to find this now open sore with my knee looking like a volcano. It was spitting like a snake and the 1st thing I did was start with Hydrogen Peroxide putting it on this sore 3 - 4 times per day. I awoke to relief the very next day and over all I have a little mark that was like the size of a dime that has faded since we are coming up on a year soon since this happened to me. It pulled the infection from this sore and is a total lifesaver.

Holy Grail for Boil Care

I am going to try to give a good synopsis of what I have learned from infectious disease doctors (several), and many naturalists. At the FIRST sign of a boil (yes even a painful pimple), I would start with the following:

Wash thoroughly twice a day for at least 10 days (or longer if you still have the boil) with either:

a) enough good quality(dr bronners baby unscented is great) liquid soap to wash you entire body to which you add approx 5 drops of good quality 100% pure Tea Tree Oil, for each washing. or

b) A chlorhexidine solution available over the counter under the brand name Hibiclens (this is the western medicine option)

Ok, this is the most important step! Don't skip it, you will regret it when you have a relapse.

Take a small clean glass jar and mix about 2-3ml (think thimble full or less) of KY jelly or equivalent with 1-2 drops of 100% pure Tea tree oil. Cap jar and shake to mix completely. Take a cotton swab (q-tip) and dip it in the solution and apply it to the inside of your nostrils, one clean swab full per nostril (it will sting a bit at first but you'll get used to it fast). Once you have it in both nostrils pinch your nose closed and squish your nose around to spread it out inside your nose. Do this twice a day religiously until 10 days after you are boil free. Then do it 2-3 times per week for a month. This step is super important because MRSA will usually hang on in your nose even after all infection appears gone just to rear its ugly head again when conditions are right. (an antibiotic like mupriocin would be used by a western doctor worth his salt)

Supplements:
Zinc 50mg-90mg daily (never more than 100mg)
Vitamin A (one softgel) daily,
Turmeric 1tsp (or two 00 caps) 3 times daily (thanks Earth Clinic!),
Neem (1 capsule) twice daily.

I currently consider this the holy grail of knowledge on natural MRSA treatment. I hope to post an update with more details soon. Good Luck!"

8/5/2006: Shawn adds more to his earlier post: "Apply 1 drop of 100% pure Tea Tree oil directly to the boil and cover with Band-Aid (or a telfa (nonstick) pad with tape for large boils) 2-3 times daily.

Avoid using plain gauze, it tends to make the boil dry out or scab over. You want to keep it moist.

I suggest using a moist compress as hot as you can stand it (i use a tea kettle), apply tea tree and/ lavender oil to maximize effect. Do this several times per day (inconvenient, but so are boils!)

And, of course, NEVER SQUEEZE A BOIL! it can spread the infection very quickly to the surrounding tissue.

If you see red spider web like lines around the boil, see a doctor immediately. This can be a sign of the infection spreading to the blood, which is very dangerous.

Once a boil has a white tip or has opened, it should be kept covered and treated liberally with tea tree directly into the wound if possible.

Notes on Tea Tree Oil : Has been shown very effective against MRSA, nearly as effective as the best antibiotics.

To test for sensitivity to tea tree oil: apply a drop on inner arm and cover with a Band-Aid. Wait 1-2hrs and remove Band-Aid if redness or swelling occurs you should not use tea tree.

Iodine

Iodine straight onto the boils and doing it several times a day washing with antibiotic soap in between applications. This got rid of the satellite boils and reduced the mother boil down to a tiny bump so far. I know, you have to completely get rid of it or it regenerates itself. I am also doing the turmeric to try to clean the MRSA out of my system, which I know it must have been there for years. Iodine (put plenty on top of the boils), cured all the satellite baby boils and reduced the first boil (which was about 1 and 1/4 inch in diameter when it first appeared), to a tiny lump smaller than a pea. Yes, we had heavy rain before the first big boil appeared on my cheek. Also, I went out shopping the day before the first one appeared. Yes, there are a lot of jets here because we are near the Ft. Lauderdale airport. But I have no idea where MRSA comes from or why the boils appeared. About a year ago, I first had on my forehead something that looked like an infected insect bite and it refused to heal. It bled periodically and seemingly after it looked like it was healed over. The little lumps were still there. I could feel them under the skin. But after about 8 solid months of applying triple antibiotic cream, it finally went away. No more little lumps under my skin in that location. This is what I am trying to do now, get this mother boil to finally disappear. I will send more information when I have it. I am 64, retired, live a quiet life. Like to garden, maybe this MRSA is in the soil... If it is in the air, then it naturally would be in the soil and therefore on veggies we buy, etc. There were no changes in what I usually eat so I don't think it is diet related, not sure.

re: MRSA -> Severe Allergic Reaction to Antibiotics -> Steroid-Induced Manic Episode. Probably a worst-case scenario, but important for other people to know about drugs that can make things much worse: http://www.nickyee.com/abscess_septra.html

Following the medical ordeal, the Prednisone induced a manic-episode that required psychiatric attention.

YUNNAN BAIYAO cured my Mrsa.

EC: Yunnan Baiyao also known as Yunnan Paiyao is a hemostatic powdered medicine famous for being carried by the Vietcong to stop bleeding during the Vietnam War.

Although its main ingredients are steamed and raw Sanqi (Tienchi ginseng, Notoginseng roots of Panax pseudoginseng) used to normalize blood flow, enhance poor circulation and heal internal bleeding in injuries and bleeding ulcers, and Rhizoma Dioscoreae [5], The two tienchi ginsengs are combined with astringent herbs that absorb excess bleeding, invigorate the blood and enhance healing including myrrh and "dragon's blood" another resinous herb for internal bleeding.[6]

Colloidal Silver

When my gynecologist told me that my lesion was possibly MRSA since I had only a month before had a boil on my face, she said that after taking Bactrim for 10 days I should start putting Neosporin in my nose, if the MRSA infection was confirmed. I wanted to do something sooner, while still taking the Bactrim, and so researched and got some colloidal silver and put either drops or swabs of it in my nose 1-2 times a day for a week, as well as applying it to the wound with a swab. I read that it would not interfere with the antibiotics. The lesion had been lanced, and when I had my follow-up, I was healing very well. I have had no more boils yet. I can't say for sure that the colloidal silver did the trick, but from what I've read, it can be very effective with short term use (10 days or so) and if I get another boil, I will apply some directly right away.

Grated Raw Potatoes

My son experienced MRSA and I successfully used Earthclinic's recommendation for Tumeric, baking soda, and sea salt. However, though his wound was getting much better, we still had to drain the puss from the wound 2x a day which was very painful for him and opened his wound even more.

A friend told me to put grated raw potato on the open wound and let it sit until the gratings turned black. We did one application and never was able to get out any puss after that! It sped the healing of MRSA used in conjunction with the tumeric, baking soda, sea salt paste. I was told to apply it to any infection as drawling salve. Amazing!!!

Hot Compresses, Oatmeal With Baking Soda

I have had a horrible time! I first started out with MRSA on my leg.
I guess I get it harder then most. Because first it starts with a head ache and flu like symptoms and 100 to 103 fever. Last I got the boil on my left leg just up from my knee.
I tried heat, I tried tea tree oil and I tried baking soda and oatmeal.
The heat felt good.
The tea tree oil did nothing.
The baking soda hurt and did draw it out.
The oatmeal hurt and did draw it out.
Together baking soda and oatmeal did the best.
I still had to go to the doctor and they gave me antibiotics.
It never totally went away. It was still this little spot. But I thought ok. I am out of antibiotics but maybe my body will take care of it.
About 2 weeks later. I got a head ache and it felt like some one had kicked me in the tail bone also no energy and 103 fever. Next thing I know I have a huge boil on the inside of my left butt cheek just down from my tail bone.
Its the week end so I say to hell with it. I go the the ER. Wait for 2 hours. Then they get me in. Give me painkiller and cut the thing open and drain it.
They gave me different antibiotics this time.
I have been on them. The thing has been draining like mad.
It stopped draining after a few days.
Now I am out of the antibiotics and the boil is not totally gone.
I am afraid again and have no clue what to do.
Here is some advise I would like to give.
If you get a boil drained.
You must! Use hot compresses and maybe oatmeal mixed with baking soda in a paste on it. Also take hot soaks for 20 minutes 2 times a day. Do not let this thing close until it is totally MT!
I give this advice because I wish to god I had done all of this.
I feel if I had I would not be worried now.
Wondering what the heck should I do now!

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is how I have been keeping MRSA at bay. A life saver. I take 2000-3000 mg a day. I also make sure I get at least 7 hrs of sleep a night and am trying to keep my stress level low. If I get a bump of any kind I put a band aid with triple antibiotic on it and increase the vitamin C dose to 6000-8000 per day. Your body does not store it but your stomach will tell you when you have had enough. I use the powdered one that you put in water and have had little trouble. This works well because I just make sure it is in my water bottle at all times when I have an outbreak. The outbreaks come when I let things slide and try to run on 5 hours of sleep or quit taking the' vitamin C . I have done quite a bit of research on MRSA/Staph and it's all about your immune system. Stands to reason that if you build up your immune system so your body can fight off the infection it will do just that. Seems to be working great!

Baking Soda, Salt, Honey

Just wanted to let you know that I have been having steady relief using honey, baking soda & a pinch of salt on my boils and tiny, pimply, bump-rash (associated with MRSA) by daily application with bandaids. Growing up we used baking soda-salt to extract poison from stings and bites. Hearing of the water-extraction capabilities of honey led me to add it to the formula with good success. This isn't an isolated remedy however because I've also been eating garlic sandwiches with herbs!

Hello everyone, Our family survived a vicious attack of f MRSA ourselves. My two sons were viciously attacked by flesh eating boils. I had a more mild attack. The boils my slesh eating MRSA. I know this will be hard to believe, however we dealt withons had grew to the size of small grapefruits.

My oldest son came home one day with a bad "spider bite" -- it slowly healed. A week later 6 more boils came back and they were literally eating away at his legs within a few hours. We took him to our family doctor of 20 yrs plus, and his nurse practitioner threw Septra, Doxycicline, and Murpirocin ointment at the infection. Our doctor called us and told us not to worry. He said that they have never had the antibiotics fail to kill the infection and that it would not come back.

Well, it did come back within 10 days after using the drugs correctly. The drugs did cause the infection to retreat which was a part of what save his life because it bought us time to research. We also consulted with an Infectious Disease Doctor and he confirmed my thinking, the doctors are experimenting to see which antibiotic might kill MRSA. At that point I lost confidence in doctors and antibiotics and decided to research and pray.

Our lives depended on finding something that would cause the boils to go away. We did find something and it was___ and ___ ____ [garlic]. We used it as suggested and got the results we needed. Since we used ____ ___ ___ ___ ____ [garlic], we have not had any signs or symptoms of MRSA for over 2 yrs.

My youngest son who also had flesh eating boils, did not need any antibiotics or medical care at all since we used ___ ___ [garlic]. We did keep in close contact with our doctors through our recovery process. We used ____(research links below) topically and internally. ___ ____ ___ [garlic] needs to be used properly to achieve the desired results.

Because of our recovery and the recovery of many others using ___ ___ [garlic], I want to help others. I am not a doctor or health practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I have been able to help many to get the same desired results that our family had. I am blessed and honored to do so. I have provided research links for all of you below. Feel free to email us if you would like our help with where to purchase

___ __ ___ __ __ and how to use it properly. God bless, Cathy

Sleep, Hibiclens, Tea Tree Oil, Echinacea, Neem, Veggies

Have had recurring mrsa boils on my trunk area for the last 7years (2-3 episodes per year with 2-12 boils at once). Used minocyclene the first year with some results.Through out the years I have tried almost all the home remedies with very little relief. The tumric gave short term relief. Now I think I have it pretty well under control. My success was mostly due to the info I got from this site. Here's whats working for me: Get lots of sleep and take a good sleep remedy if you have to but you must get that full night of sleep every night. The Hibiclens wash 1 to 2 times a day along' with the tee tree oil and ky lubricant mix for your nose 1-2 times per day. Some echinacia, neem and lots of good veggies, less dairy and the alkaline fixes mentioned here. And you will beat the ^%$# out the mrsa in your body.

Staph Warnings

WARNING!

This is what you have been saying in this forum. Hospitals try to keep the lid of secrecy on MRSA cases. Presumably, so that future patients will not be aware of the problem and will unknowingly subject themselves to surgery at this hospital. I learned that there is at least one case of MRSA at this large local hospital, but there is no mention of it in the news. The hospitals obviously fear financial losses more than the deaths of their patients. I find this disgusting, what about you? I should mention that the hospital in question is NOT located in Hollywood, Florida.
