I tried serrapeptase 200mg. took it as suggested first bottle(90 tabs) 3x3/day, then 3x1/day , this cured the pains in my knees and legs. It's made from enzymes originating from the silk worm. also cleared my cholesterol.

I originally tried ACV for weight loss; I have a stubborn 20 pounds to lose. I was pleasantly surprised as to how pain-free I became in a matter of a few days. My knees no longer 'click' when I go up stairs. I can bend and squat to play with my children and no longer suffer ankle pain from the effort. My acid reflux is gone as well. When I run out of ACV, in a matter of days, the pain returns and I'm like an old lady once more. It works for me!

Brenda - Since it's not a drug, there is zero risk. You have nothing at all to lose by trying it. If it doesn't work for you, you've lost nothing. And if it does work, HOORAY! :) That's the beauty of alternative/natural treatment. I have read many, many ACV success stories. You won't know if yours will be a success story unless you try it.

Go for it! :)

Comfrey Oil, ACV

I think this is good. I will add that you might want to go watch John Bergman on youtube before surgery, you might change your mind. He had knee surgeries and was in a wheelchair. He teaches doctors on spine health. I learned a lot. Eric Berg on youtube could probably help get the pylori under control. I grow comfrey. You might read up on Dr. Batmanghelidj to get your minerals in balance with hydration so you can get peaceful again.RA is autoimmune and water minerals balance is the cause of most autoimmune issues. You are doing lots of good things and borax is a mineral to put calcium in the correct place in the body. Study a lot before you try it, it is part of the cure for RA.

I also want to add that I'm taking borax for my RA. 1 large pinch 4x's daily in water. It's been 2 weeks and I think it might be helping. Not sure bc I have so many areas that are painful (ie hands, ankles, knee, arms, and shoulders).

For my RA pain, I'm taking 1/16 tsp of pure powder aspirin (bought at a feed store for horses) and then 1/16 tsp of lysine with 1/8 tsp of chlorophyll and 2000 mg of vit c powder with bioflavonoids in my yogurt. I only take this once in the morning as it lasts me all day as a pain reliever.

I also have h.pylori that I'm dealing with which I take 1 tsp black seed oil 2x's day and 15 drops of oregano 2x's day with black walnut wormwood and clove extract from NOW. I think the oregano is working bc I'm having less burping, gas, and nausea. I'm also drinking cabbage juice. Going to try this for 2 weeks and see how I feel. Next, I will add turpentine and dgl and mastic gum to see if that works. So many Natural remedies out there it's difficult to know what to try.

Thanks for the info.

I am 62 yrs young and very active but I guess I over did it and strain my right knee. Terrible pain and swelling and tried ice and wrapping my knee but it didn't help at all. I tried arnica gel, there's also arnica cream and amazing how much better my knee is within 2 days. I urge anyone with knee pain or anywhere else to use arnica topically. I know you can get the pellets but I don't know if it works as well as the cream. Pain is so depressing. Wish all of you the best and thanks EC for your site.

Multiple Remedies

Hi Michael

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my posting on the arthritic pain in my knee. I find your recommendations very sound, helpful, and above all your letter put a smile on my face!

Right, I was a little premature in posting on Earth Clinic the other day, because yesterday I saw my doctor who was able to give me the results of the x ray I'd had, which has helped clarify matters. I do have osteoarthritis, which you thought was almost inevitable for anyone over seventy, but in addition to this fragments of bone have broken loose in my kneecap and need to be removed. As I understand it, it's the fragments that are causing the intensity of pain I'm experiencing. So the next step is an MRI scan, and removal of the fragments.

I shall continue with all the natural remedies I've been taking, gleaned from Earth Clinic contributors, and, like you, I'm not adverse to a bit of voodoo, and may try acupuncture or other alternative therapies if the condition doesn't improve.

Best wishes.

I made an ACV wrap for my painful arthritic knee, and it did help lessen some pain, however, it sure does smell! The strong odor bothers me at times...

Fish Oil

Year ago I injured my right knee - the meniscus - working out. It was very painful for a few weeks, but I continued to exercise and it healed, but not completely. I can't do high impact workouts. I was travelling last week and forgot to bring my supplements with me. When I returned, I went for a walk in our hilly neighborhood. By the second small hill, the knee with the meniscus issue starting killing me and I limped home, barely making it up our driveway it was hurting so badly. My knee never gives me this kind of pain! Then I realized that what I stopped taking for the past week was my omega 3 fish oil capsules. I immediately took one and then 2 more the next day. My pain level went down 80% within a day and was back to my "normal" (that is, ocasional inflammation with fast recovery) within 2 days. I am amazed at how much the fish oil helps. I have taken fish oil regularly for years, but only now figured out that it's what has been helping my knee this whole time!!!

Reply to: Purelife from Columbia, Sc......

take 4 packets of KNOX GELATIN in 8 ozs orange juice every day two packets in am and two packets in pm. Also mixes well in chocolate milk. In 8 - 10 weeks you will see improvement starting. It works. My knees are now perfect and I'm over 70. I still take a packet or two every month. It's very inexpensive insurance.

I recently started using gelatin in a fun way--making Knox blox (Knox is a gelatine brand in the US). Take 1 pack of Jello or other sugar-free gelatin, add 2 packets (2 tablespoons) of unflavored gelatin, add 2 cups of boiling water and stir until dissolved. Then pour into a 7x7 pan (I have a Corning Ware casserole dish and cool for one hour. Slice into 20-25 block and eat with your fingers. You can use Jello with sugar, but I prefer the sugar free. You can also use fruit juice for flavoring, then you need 3 tablespoons or packets of unflavored gelatin. It's great and a quick way to eat a lot of gelatin. Not only great for your joints (it's made of melted cartilage), it's also great for your skin, hair and nails.

Iodine

iodine cured Bad knee.

35 years with bad knee. joint would come off some times. always swollen. applied regular iodine externally three times a day. applied one week on and 4 days off. only the affected part would mildly burn and the knee will feel bug crawling inside the skin. after a week the bad skin looked like war zone. so gave four days break. new skin came after break. started the application again. itch started badly on the knee. applied Tea tree oil over iodine to stop the itch immediately. after 4 weeks knee shape came to look like normal. at this time the effected part squeezed to the size of a quarter. still kept on applying on the affected area and surroundings. pain went away after 3 weeks from the start up of the application. but didn't stop applying. this has been 4 months now. knee is like brand new.

i did switch from regular store available iodine to lugol's iodine after 3 months. started applying iodine to every family member's joint pain and cysts. iodine never failed to cure.

Eliminate Aspartame and Artificial Sweeteners
Posted by Jim (Upstate New York, US) on 11/30/2014

I completely concur. I did a research article once on aspartame and it was published. My publisher got a threatening call from NutraSweet's lawyers! They seem to keep a number of lawyers on permanent retainer to try and squelch the consistent bad press about diet drinks that contain aspartame.

It is nasty, nasty stuff. Using the completely natural extract of stevia for sweetening will get you off any dependence on artifical sweeteners or sugar, for that matter.

Aspartame is unhealthy and will harm your body. The companies that produce it, including NutraSweet, know it is bad for you. They have to hire lawyers to try and suppress the truth from getting out! That alone should give you all the info you need to make a life-affirming choice for yourself or others.

By the way, my editor stood behind me and refused to retract the article or apologize for it. We never heard from those cretins again.

Vitamin C

I started taking high doses of Vitamin C to help ward off a cold virus. For the past several weeks I took 5-10 grams of Vitamin C. I noticed my knee pain disappeared. I am a runner/cross country skier who has virtually stopped these activities due to pain in my right knee. For 7 years I have tried glucosamine, calcium, MSM, and NSAIDs. I don't like taking NSAIDS. However, the other remedies did not relieve the pain and inflammation. Therefore, I have been tolerating the pain and have discontinued using NSAIDS. I was very surprised to find that the Vitamin C use correlated with complete pain relief and reduction of inflammation. So I stopped the C for a week and the pain returned. I have resumed the C and the pain is gone again.

Within the hour, a mix of ACV & Olive oil applied with cotton wool on the knee, massaged in after about 20 mins and the severe pain is gone. Also took 2 tbsp in a glass of water. No painkillers necessary!!!

Apple Cider Vinegar

I would agree that Apple Cider Vinegar may give a lot of help and won't hurt. I notice a difference in my back pain when I let up on using ACV.

Peppermint essential oil is good for pain and healing and so is castor oil. (I use these for lots of things if you read my other posts! ) Massage either into the pained area as needed.

Lots of water is also very good for pain. Symptoms for everything are much worse when your body isn't fully hydrated.

Sugar is very bad for pain and healing. (Too bad it is so delicious! ) Some honey is okay.

Hope you get some relief. My mother has terrible, terrible knees and I have watched her suffer since I was a girl, so I sympathize in that.

Castor Oil Packs, Flaxseed Oil

Regarding knee-joint pain remedies specifically, I can attest to the efficacy of cold-pressed Castor-oil packs, wrapped in saran-wrap and followed by an Ace bandage or neoprene knee-brace. Use overnight for a minimum of four nights and my nagging ache disappeared. I now take Flaxseed oil capsules which are seemingly, keeping my knee free of daily pain.

Borax
Posted by Art (California) on 10/13/2020 2147 posts

Hi Mary,

As I mentioned to Gracie, I have not tried it topically for anything except the hands and it was effective for that, but the hands are relatively thin and apparently enough borax is able to penetrate the the hands to be effective. For arthritis of the the hips and knees, the oral route is already proven effective for many people. Borax is very poor at penetrating the skin and dermal layers and this is why I have never mentioned it for anything other than the hands. I have only used it orally for other areas of the body.

Orally, I use Ted's method of 1/8th level teaspoon per day for women measured with a measuring spoon set using the 1/8th teaspoon at level full and adding that to a quart or liter of water, stirring or shaking until dissolved and drinking it throughout the day. For men it is 1/4th teaspoon per day in a quart or liter of water. I drink the whole quart during the day and make a new bottle each day. I drink one bottle each day of the week and take Friday, Saturday and Sunday off now.

If you want to try making the borax lotion, I have written about that already on Earth Clinic here :

I've been taken about 1/4 teaspoon borax in water 2/3 week (for past 3 years) and it helped my clicking knees..

I found it best in a cup of tea with spoon full honey, you cannot taste it at all..

Hello again Gracie of Nottingham,

I am relieved that you are now in possession of a sound diagnosis for your debilitating knee problem and can see your way clear to a resolution.

It is a bit grim to have to resort to surgery but needs must I suppose. Did you have an accident to your knee?

I hope you will keep us informed as to how the surgery and your subsequent recovery turns out.

The Hemp oil I mentioned and Turmeric/Ginger are often recommended for their pain relieving properties by the way.

You probably won't want to be rubbing Castor oil or anything else into that knee any time soon!!?

Say hello to Robin Hood, Little John and Maid Marrion for me!

Best wishes,

Michael
