Top 10 Natural Remedies for Flu

Aspirin, Cayenne, and Hydrogen Peroxide

I was around someone early in the week who thought she had the flu. 48 hours later I was experiencing early flu symptoms. Sore throat, malaise.

I immediately put hydrogen peroxide in my ears. (About a capful each ear.)

I gargled cayenne pepper water. (1/4 teaspoon cayenne in 3 ounces of water.)

I took 2 aspirin.

I repeated the hydrogen peroxide twice before going to bed.

I woke up not feeling the best and repeated the peroxide in the ears, the cayenne gargle and the aspirin.

By afternoon I felt completely fine and have ever since.

I think the earlier that remedies are begun the better!

Hydrogen Peroxide in Ears for Respiratory Viruses

My ears were hurting like crazy along with a sour throat, extreme fatigue, and coughing. A horrible cold, maybe pneumonia, was attacking me yesterday at about 2pm. I felt exhausted and lost my appetite. My throat hurt so badly, and both of my ears really hurt. I went to the internet to see if I could find a remedy for ear pain and was sucking on a halls cough drop. I saw the 3% peroxide treatment in ears. I poured some in a small cup, looked in the mirror and put some in my right ear. It started bubbling and was really loud. I left it in for 10 minutes. I turned my ear over and let it drain into the sink. I did the same thing with the left ear. It bubbled loudly in that ear. I repeated three times, with doing it about 5 minutes the second and third times. My ears were itching like crazy after the treatment and when I would let out the hydrogen peroxide it felt hot when some of it ran down my cheek. I took one whole garlic and diced it up small. I ate half of that with apple sauce, making sure to not let the garlic get on my tongue, just chewed in the back of my mouth and put the apple sauce in to swallow it. The last thing I did within this one hour period was to gargle with listerine for 2 minutes. I tilted my head back so it would reach the top of my throat. Within 5 minutes, I felt like I need to throw up. I started coughing, then threw up this green and dark red mucus. It was a lot of it! I didn't feel that much better yet. I went to sleep. When I woke up about 5 hours later, I felt about 5% better only. I repeated these three steps: 1) peroxide in ears several times, 2:) fresh diced garlic in apple sauce, 3) gargle with listerine. Last, I took 1 aleve. This time for the peroxide in ears, I did it 5 or 6 times in each ear, but only left it in about 1 minute. This time it did not bubble in either ear. It still felt hot though. Again, I threw up after gargling with listerine and what came up was the apple sauce PLUS a bunch of mucus. Within 2 hours I started feeling significantly better. Now, three hours I am completed cured, my appetite came back, ear pain is at 0 and throat pain is at zero. This is a miracle. I will always keep hydrogen peroxide!

Tea Tree and Oregano Oils

I am 70 years old and can not remember the last time I had a cold or the fl minute or twou. A soon as I feel the first sign of an infection, for me a scratchy feeling in my throat, or rarely a swollen soft palate, I gargle a minute or two with Tee Tree Oil diluted with water. Just a few drops in one inch of water, well stirred. Do NOT swallow TTO! Then I switch to Oil of Oregano. OoO is VERY strong. Be cautious. If it comes in a bottle with an orifice so small that it has to be shaken hard to get a few drops out, use just a few drops. Some OoO comes with a squeezy dropper tube, and is much weaker. You can safely use more. Mix it as strong as you are comfortable with. Swill it around and slowly swallow. Four times in one day has always stopped a cold or flu dead in its tracks for me.

Also, studies have shown that taking N-Acetyl Cysteine reduces the chances of getting the flu, and its severity if you do get it. It is good for liver, lungs and much, much more. Well worth a little research.

The cayenne drink is very important to remove the protein layer that the flu virus has surrounding it. Remember the virus is also trying to survive! Drink lots of spicy drinks and then attack the virus with garlic, Colidal silver, hydrogen peroxide....etc.

Baking Soda

I was beginning to show the telltale signs of the flu yesterday--fever, chills, headache, body ache. I took my usual oregano oil--and it started to take the edge off--but as soon as it would wear off a few hours later, the symptoms would come back.

I ended up having to stay up late...not by choice...but knew this would really do me in the next day and I'd be a wreck in bed w the flu. Knowing I still had to get up early for my 3 kids to send them off to school (single mom), I decided right before I got in bed, to take a couple pinches of Baking Soda in water--as I read this helped a woman wake up in the a.m. and not sleep in.

Not only did I wake up...but I woke up before my alarm, refreshed, full of energy, and NO FLU SYMPTOMS. It's like I never even had it. I am shocked.

I take a ton of natural things for illness but this has to be the fastest, most effective, and cheapest I've ever encountered.

Vitamin C

Unfortunately I'm exposed to sick people every day - and refuse to take the flu shot so, this early fall, I caught the flu bug but this time, I was prepared. Within 6 hours, the flu was gone....here is what I did.

My symptoms - fever of 101, slight headache, achy feeling, coughing, lethargy - this all happened within 1 hour. You have to hit it early.

1. Take 1,000mg (1 GM) of Vit c every 5 minutes up to bowel tolerance. For me, bowel tolerance was 40 GM (40,000 mg). Note - for some folks, this amount is probably too low. If you have questions, look up Dr. Andrew Saul on YouTube. He will set you straight.

2. Put 1 drop of peppermint oil under each nostril to keep the coughing down. It also helped with the headache. Did this about three times during the day.

3. Spread a quarter size dollar of magnesium lotion on the back of arms, feet, neck - to ease all the aches in body. Makes you more comfortable.

4. Take 2 tsp of colloidal silver 3 times a day.

5. Plenty of green tea. ( I drank about 4 cups the first day with lemon and honey).

Repeat the next day. I went to work the next day, had the Vit c tabs in my pocket, and my bowel tolerance was 13,000 mg. Don't put the Magnesium on till evening - it makes me sleepy.

This protocol is safe for kids and adults. You just have to get to bowel tolerance to make it work!

Good Luck!

By the way, after I finish the drink, I chew on the pieces of ginger in the bottom of the mug. One at a time. Great when you have the munchies.

BHT

Not long ago, I was flying home to LA and there was a young man sitting next to me who started sneezing and didn't cover his mouth. Instead, he just turned and sneezed at least 7 times into the aisle. When he was done sneezing, there was that nasty virus smell in the air (maybe it's only me, but I can smell viruses when people first get sick... it's a very distinct, gross smell).

At any rate, sure enough exactly 48 hours later, I started getting achy joints and a headache. It was the middle of the day and I took 1/2 capsule of BHT in half a glass of water. My achey joints disappeared by evening. I took another 1/2 capsule of bht the following morning just to be safe. Symptoms COMPLETELY gone after that.

The h2o2 inhalation method used to be my "go to" remedy for viruses, but it didn't always work. BHT has worked for me 100% with minimal dosing (i.e., one at onset of symptoms, another 12 hours later).

Spicy ACV Drink for Fall

I don't usually have fresh ginger on hand, but do right now. I have been using it in a warm apple cider vinegar drink. So tasty!

  • 1 cup almost boiling water
  • 2-3 teaspoons honey
  • 2-3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon clove powder
  • 1/2 - 1 teaspoon freshly sliced ginger root

Mix together in a larger mug or to go coffee mug to keep you cozy when you go out in the cold.

I think I would especially love this if I had a cold or the flu.

I have had great success using L-lysine to kill cold and flu viruses. If taken as soon as you have any symptoms of a virus at 2000 mg 4 times during your waking hours or less say take at breakfast, lunch, dinner and at bedtime, you will be ok the next day,, but, if you wait till the next day then you may have to take the dosage for 2 or 3 days. This really works great!!!

Essential Oils

FLU SYMPTOMS So I came down with these symptoms after taking care of several people in quarantine for influenza type A. No, I didn't go to the doctor, it is an uncomfortable waste of my time, sitting on a hard plastic chair for 8 or 9 hrs. awaiting a diagnosis with a prescription for modern medicine that I cannot afford. Okay, symptoms: aches, fever, chills, stuffy head, severe headache, nausea, vertigo, ears popping, waves of intense abdominal cramping.

What I did about it. I diffused these "flu bomb" essential oils into my breathing space non-stop, Oregano, Lemon, Frankincense, Thieves (thieves is a mixture of 10 drops of rosemary, 15 drops of eucalyptus, 20 drops of cinnamon bark, 35 drops of lemon and 40 drops of clove).

The other things I did, at first I religiously rubbed Lansinoh (its a cracked nipple cream over the counter at Walmart) on the inside of my nares, this helped with the drippy nose, I also used ZICAM, this did not work this time like it does for the cold virus! So I finally ditched it after a few days, this is also how I figured out I must have the flu and not just a cold/sinus infection.

At times I rubbed pure Shea butter inside of my nares, this seemed to really calm down the itchy, drippy symptoms. Lemon on my temples and rosemary on the back of my neck helps with the headaches. Then, last night, I rubbed several essential oils onto the soles of my feet, making little 'sections' and I am not even sure of where to put anything as I am not trained! But I must say, when you are miserable, you will do Anything.

Big toe, frankincense, second toe, anise star, third toe, clementine, fourth one ravensara, pinky toe, nerolina, section under pinky cedarwood-himalayan, next section over in a sweeping back and forth style, lime essential oil, then litsea, caraway, niaouli, lavender, finally sweet marjoram.

I slept without waking for 10 hours!! I felt a little headachy this morning, but nothing like yesterday! Still a little congested, I started using coconut oil inside my nose, actually sucking it up as high as I can get! I am much better now! I am still diffusing the first ingrediants I listed earlier all day, and I will more than likely put more oil on the bottom of my feet tonight.

Carol's cure all acv and lemon juice drink was the best remedy I tried so far.

I tried the tomato tea and it probably does boost the immune system, but this remedy did stop the thick phlegm that was blocking my airway and causing me to cough like crazy, and it worked almost immediately. I drank this twice yesterday and plan to have it twice today.

Flu Shots
Posted by Teresa (Nc) on 02/05/2016

I'm a nurse and we are forced to take a flu shot whether we want it or not, even though they teach in nursing school that the single best defense against the spread of illness is hand washing. For the past three years I took a flu shot, I still contracted the flu in February. My question is how can we know for sure what's in that vaccine without sending it to a lab to be tested ourselves? I no longer trust the CDC. Why put something foreign in your body (side effects include allergic reactions and Guillain Barre syndrome) if it doesn't work. I have accused the drug companies of producing watered down vaccines.

Hello Katzie;

You gave him the CS only once? Might take more if he starts regressing. Twice a day for four or five days. If he has a sinus infection maybe show him how to sniff up into sinus cavity. Hard for a kid to do that, I know. But a life time of benefits to know how to do an "irrigation." Sinus plus ears with ear syringe.

My 14 yr old son had the 'flu for 4 days while at his father's house. When he came home he was still feverish and hadn't been eating. I gave him 1 TBSP Colloidal Silver and 1 TBSP Manuka Honey in the evening. The next morning he was better, eating, drinking, no fever, and he was smiling again. I got the idea to try these from this awesome site! It should be noted that this same "cure" also worked equally as well on his head colds.

Aspirin

Dissolved aspirin according to Ted is the only way to take aspirin. I take over the counter cold medicine from the drug store which seems safe. It is dissolved aspirin and I think baking soda.

Elderberry, Vitamins C and E

Everyone in my family had strep and flu, I was just beginning to feel bad. I read somewhere on this site that Elderberry tea would help, and Vitamin C and Vitamin E. I could not find the Elderberry tea so I got Sambucol Elderberry Extract, I took a teaspoon a day with a small amount of water in it like the box said (The internet said take 3 times a day for 5 days, however I only took it once a day and it worked), I also took 1500 mg of Vitamin C Chewable and 400IU Vitamin E a day along with that, and it knocked it out by day two, I was trying to avoid the strep, right before Christmas when I took my granddaughter back to the doc for a second strep test. I had not been sick at all, but my throat that morning a felt a little scratchy, but I ask the Doc to run a strep test on me while I was there and it was positive, which she put me on an antibiotic, however I never ran a fever or anything with my strep so I think the home remedies helped there and I never did get the flu. I made sure I did not take my Vitamin C within 4 hours of taking my antibiotic.

Now everyone is getting the flu again and I felt like I was trying to get it so I started back on the Elderberry, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. I also do the Emergen-C orange or raspberry if I don't have the chewable C with me and it works really well.

Ginger

Just using the powdered ginger from the grocery store spice aisle worked for me in one dose in 2009 when the H1N1 flu was going around. My son had gotten it and coughed right in my face when I tucked him in bed (I couldn't get him to take anything like ginger for it - he was too young and spit it out), so about 2 days later, I suddenly had a runny nose and little tickles in my upper chest - felt like tiny bubbles popping in my chest. When I realized that what I was feeling was the flu, the ginger remedy I had seen here popped into my head (thank you, EC - love your site and you are my first go-to for so many things now! ) Going with what I had available, I used 1/2 tsp of the powdered ginger and made a tea with it, heating up a mug of water and then stirring the powdered ginger in with a bit of sugar. It didn't taste too good but I drank it and had to swirl the mug around to get the leftover powder on the bottom of the mug into my mouth. Within an hour, the symptoms were all gone. I was extremely relieved, because I had a really nasty virus about a year earlier, that I had gotten pneumonia from, and it had wreaked havoc on my upper respiratory area where the flu was trying to take hold and I was still suffering from recurring chest congestion every time I got a cold at that time. So I was extremely worried that the flu would land me in the hospital, given my pre-existing chest issues. I was SOOOO relieved that the ginger worked to get rid of it so quickly. I had read that ginger has over 100 antiviral components in it, but dry ginger may have fewer of those than fresh ginger, but I would say definitely don't overlook the dry, powdered version if it's all you have!
