[YEA] 03/12/2009: Jeri from Springfield, IL: "Turmeric cured my arthritis pain in my neck and back, and it relieved my chronic puffy eyes too. I started taking 450 mg. capsules of Turmeric 3x a day for the pain from bone spurs in my neck, and it really worked. I was in so much pain, and I was so grateful. But as a bonus, it also seemed to cure my chronic puffy eye problem, which I'd tried to control for the past two years by watching the salt in my diet. Well, there's no mistake about it, the Turmeric has also cured my puffy eyes problem too. I still plan on watching my salt intake, but it is SO nice to look normal, and feel normal again."Replies
12/07/2009: Tracy from San Augustine, Texas, Usa replies: "To help get rid of bone spurs, you might want to take horsetail herb capsules & try applying a poultice or compress of horsetail herb or tincture to the area with the bone spurs. There's also a homeopathic product available to use that's also high in silica (like horsetail). A doctor of acupuncture who uses electrodes attached to the needles can help break up bone spurs through a series of treatments."
[YEA] 01/30/2012: Christo from Montreal, Canada replies: "I've always used turmeric, not for therapeutic reasons, however. Mainly as a spice. The last couple of days I've drinking it as a tea because of joint and muscle pains and it works, I must say. But what I did notice the next day after I first started drinking it was that the bags under my eyes, which I've had for over ten years now seemed somehow smaller. As of writing, and this after only two days, they're even less pronounced. I can only thank the turmeric for this, because nothing else has changed in my diet."
01/31/2012: Francisca from Zug, Switzerland replies: "Christo, my story is more or less yours: using turmeric as a spice (also a bit for therapeutical purposes, but not in big quantities). Now I am willing to try it in my tea but how do you do it, do you use the powder, how much a day..... Thanks for your help, right now I have quite a bit of pain in my left arm because of a sports injury (I hope that it is only that... ) and well, the bags under my eyes have been there forever and are starting to bother me more!"
06/05/2012: Nasio71 from Montreal, Quebec replies: "*** Christo*** How do you take the Turmeric.... I mean quanity and doses. Is it once in the morning or several time a day? I have severe eye bags and I'm getting tired of experimenting with products and cleanses. I'm considering surgery but I'd rather not go that route."
06/07/2009: Pradip from Suva, Fiji: "For kidney cleansing, is it okay to take powdered tumeric with water? Thanks for anyone's help."Replies
10/25/2010: Belinda from Adelaide, Australia replies: "I take turmeric in water from time to time for general health. I've just discovered that my kidneys are not functioning quite as well as they could be... Is it okay to continue with turmeric? I don't want to exacerbate the problem. Thanks."
10/26/2010: Sue from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada replies: "Turmeric is amazing. It is very anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial, antivirial, plain and simple it's one of the best things you can add to your diet to improve your health. The best way to take turmeric is to put 1 tsp of turmeric in a glass of water about 1 cup. Add the juice of one lemon, freshly squeezed so that you get the anions from the lemon (very important) as this alkalizes you rapidly. Then add 1 tlbspn of unsulphered Blackstrap molasses which is full of minerals. I sweeten this with the Now brand of stevia extract. This stevia is non imflamatory and is the only one I recommend for this drink as it is safe and non toxic, plus it makes the drink taste much better. One more thing that you should add on the side is kelp. Laminaria digitata is the best kelp to use. This is an amazing drink that will change your life. It will energize you and it will heal you. You can and should drink it for once or twice a day for the rest of your life. Their turmeric is high quality and easy on the budget. Good luck and once you feel the energy from this drink, I hope you recommend it to your family and friends to help their health as well."
10/26/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Not wanting to be disrespectful Sue but it seems to me that you are selling products? Sorry if I am wrong....."
10/27/2010: Bessie from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: "Hi Francisca, I don't think Sue is selling anything. She recommended a drink made with items easily found in a grocery store or health food store - turmeric, lemon, blackstrap molasses, sweetened with stevia. She mentioned a brand name of stevia (Now) because it's one of the more common ones found in health food stores and even a few pharmacies here. As for "laminaria digitata" it's a type of brown algae also found in the health food store. (it's part of the laminaria family of 31 species). It sounds like a very healthy drink not too sure of the taste though! Cheers!"
Long Term Use of Turmeric
01/30/2014: Mama To Many from Tennessee, Usa: "Dear Om,
I enjoy reading your posts and notice that you mention using turmeric here and there. In the last year I have been thrilled with how well turmeric works for so many things. However, I have seen cautions once in a while about taking it long term, and some say it causes issues with gut flora. I have not personally seen this as an issue in my family, even when using it for months a time. Seeing that it is used regularly in some cultures in cooking, I find it hard to believe it is something that isn't safely used regularly and long term. I am wondering if you have any thoughts about this.
Thanks so much!
~Mama to Many~"
01/30/2014: Om from Hope, Bc, Canada replies: "Mama To Many from Tennessee---from Om

This is fascinating reading on turmeric. I use it daily, plus for pets that get it in their food. In fact, I had a very nice experience after an invasion of no-no bugs and an allergy covering my upper body. I knew that an illness is overcome or something similar, one is to sprinkle the bed and oneself with "haldi". Since turmeric works on the chakra level, cleansing the suptle body, I heard for a moment a music from the spheres. No wonder it is used always in the temples, and on the forehead for protection against unseen entities. Plants do work on one's consciousness.
But see for yourself how fabulous this item is. In the West, they try to isolate it, but that cannot be done due to Turmeric's unique composition. As is also the case with all of Nature's gifts. I take it daily with amla soaked. I also enjoy your posts, ....All the best. Namaste, Om"
01/30/2014: Mike62 from Denver replies: "Om: You and Mama are angels from heaven. I ferment fresh whole root turmeric with water kefir grains every day."
01/30/2014: Mama To Many from Tennessee, Usa replies: "Dear Om,
Thanks so much for getting back to me! I really appreciate the information!
Dear Mike62 - you ferment fresh whole turmeric? That is fascinating!
You can learn something new every day.
Have a good night (or morning) as the case may be.

[YEA] 04/18/2009: James from Summit, NJ: "The last two years or more I've been watching a mole like growth on my lower leg next to my calf. It didn't do much for a while but about six months ago it started to grow. It was about half inch across, maybe slightly less. It had a brown reddish dark hue. The texture was scaly and bumpy. Edges were irregular. It did have a more "round" shape. In short, it was the classic melanoma. I looked on the web and yes there it was in dozens of photos. An angry dark spot spreading out. I figured it was time to get to the Dermatologist but for some reason I held off. I started to take turmeric as a supplement in my morning smoothies. Intially I took turmeric as a cure for a severe case of diahrrea, which it cured almost instantly. After some more research I started taking it every day. After about a month I noticed that my small melanoma was changing. It was becoming lighter, the edges were turning into new skin. Now it's almost gone after three months. New skin has taken over most of it. There is only a small area in the original center left which won't be there long from the looks of it. I put a teaspoon of turmeric in my berrie smoothie, which hides the taste. I actually like the tast of it so for me it's not a problem."Replies
08/02/2009: Connie from Manitowoc, Wisconsin replies: "Someone said it's good as a tea with honey, black pepper and milk. Try using coconut milk."
[YEA] 03/21/2013: Clarisse from Los Angeles, Ca: "During the first couple days, I get some really bad menstrual cramps. Mine are pretty miserable, to the point where I feel like throwing up and just lying down all day. I remembered that turmeric is used to alleviate menstrual cramps, so I added a tsp of turmeric to some warm milk, along with a bit of flaxseed oil (turmeric is fat-soluble) and some black pepper (increases absorption of curcumin in turmeric). I drank this all before I went to bed. The next morning, no more menstrual cramps! Try it!"
[YEA] 04/20/2008: Tiffany from Watertown, New York: "I have really bad problems with menstrual cramps during my period. One day my sister suggested trying a spice called Turmeric to help relieve them. Saying she had read this on the internet somewhere. So I tried it. She was right. Mixing a teaspoon of Tumeric into a quarter cup of hot water and drinking it, followed by a small glass of milk (to help take the bitterness out of your mouth), relieves cramps in about ten minutes. I swear by it today and use it everytime I need relief."
[YEA] 10/19/2012: Guilhermo from Curitiba, Parana: "I had 10 years of disconfort (inflamation like feeling on my testicle (left side)) and discomfort on all body... Due a bad treated STD... Maybe was all the antibiotic I take it for it... and I had a candida infection I dont know! I also had low libido and low energy....
On the last doctor he said he couldnt do nothing and it was all psycological. So at my last try, I started to take Chanca Piedra TEA with 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric...
3 Days later I was almost like new! Chanca piedra helped, I did some experiences with other teas, always with turmeric... And worked too.... So turmeric did the trick... but is best with chanca piedra...
Im on the 10 days... I wont stop... Until I feel im 100%. 95% , wich is realy good. With energy, body relax. Sleeping much better, and happier. (turmeric is used for depression too). Is the most incredible thing I ever used...
Sorry for my English! Good luck for all"
08/05/2012: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa: "Hi Everyone, Recently, I wrote in one of my posts about the miracles of turmeric. Well, I thought this audio of Truth Calkins speaking on the wonder herb turmeric might be enlightening for all. Hope you enjoy! Lisa
[YEA] 12/01/2011: Bz from Bklyn, Ny: "I had aches and pains and even chiropractics and acupuncture didn't relieve it. I took turmeric and it relieved the aches and pains (joints mostly) and also has cleared up a great deal of my "brain fog". It's been incredible."
[YEA] 11/28/2011: Janie from Nj, Usa: "Turmeric is great against arthritis pain, but also for headache or other pains.
My spouse and I take daily turmeric with bromelain (2) capsules and experience no symptoms of arthritis. If we run out of them, we notice the difference right away. (450 each combo capsule from nat fac)
When a headache comes along or a sore throat we use 2 capsules, instead of aspirin or ibuprofen (in addition to our daily regimen).
Conventional medical providers acknowledge turmeric is equal to ibuprofen in pain relief. (And lots less side effects to worry about! )"
[YEA] 10/13/2011: Sunita from Clovis, California: "Getting rid of turmeric stains from your cutting board, dishes, cloth-kitchen towels is wash the item with soap/detegent and hot water than set it out in the sun.
Here's another help this spice provides, I was given turmeric baths for the duration of measles outbreak as a child and gave my own four children turmeric baths when they had chicken pox, helps heal quicker and cools body so it doesn't itch as much.
Have used turmeric powder mixed with fresh lemon juice as a face mask for as long as I can remember. Needless to say I am reaping the benefits.
No wonder the Hindu's rub turmeric all over the bride and the groom's body in preparation for marriage. I am not sure exactly what the benefits are but it's been done for centuries. I find that interesting, would like to know why it is done."Replies
10/13/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Sunita, using Turmeric as a face mask will surely stain your skin? How do you do it? I want to try but I don't want to look all yellow for a few days!"
10/13/2011: P from Middle Of, Fl replies: "I've mixed honey with turmeric, the ratio of honey larger than turmeric. I am light skin and didn't stain my face. Hope this works! =]"
10/14/2011: Timh from Louisville, Usa replies: "It is important to note that Turmeric may be contraindicated for people who have liver problems as it boost phase 1 detox enzymes but inhibits phase 2. If not for this finding, Turmeric would certainly be a faultless herb in the top 10."
04/11/2011: Diamond from Salisbury, Ma.usa: "Here is a great web site on Turmeric as I was looking for some thing for pain. Turmeric has so much more cures then I even bothered to notice, and all along I had these spices in my cupboard.... I hope this site is useful as it's been a great god send for me. http://www.turmeric.co.in/turmeric_ayurvedic_use.htm"Replies
03/10/2012: Diane from Fresno, Ca Usa replies: "I have been trying various ways of taking turmeric but have not liked the taste. I have now concocted a turmeric smoothie. I don't measure but it's about 3/4 cup coconut milk, 1 banana, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 TBS honey and a dash of black pepper. I use a Vitamix, which can handle a lot more than a regular blender. I think a regular blender would work for the above. It makes a pretty thick drink.
With a Vitamix, you can also make an even more substantial drink by adding a cut-up fuji apple. A regular blender can't really pulverize the apple (I have friends who have tried it and it never worked.)"
08/28/2009: Polly from Chania, Crete, Greece: "Hi everyone, I'm another fan of turmeric! I started taking turmeric about two weeks ago for my acne, after I had tried strong antibiotics and salicylic acid in the past. I had large pimples on my face and back and often painful boils that lingered on for days. I'm delighted to say that my skin has cleared up completely- it's the first time I 've seen it like this in years!
I also read how turmeric cures allergies and hayfever and recommended it to my boyfriend and my housemate, who both suffer from hayfever. At first they didn't even want to hear about it, but now - guess what- they swear by it! It works for both of them and they've stopped taking their hayfever/ anti-histamine medicines. It does taste horrible though and after trial and error, the three of us are using the following recipe:
1 teaspoon turmeric diluted in 2 teaspoons olive oil (or whatever oil you want) and some warm water. Mix well and top up the glass with any kind of fruit juice. Drink with a straw.
This recipe makes drinking it a lot easier; we tried water and warm milk but it just won't go down- do give this a try, it makes the taste bearable.
I drink this every morning before breakfast for my skin and it works wonders! I see that there's no need for me to take more, so I just don't. However, with hayfever it's a different story. The other two people drink as much as they need throughout the day; my boyfriend is usually ok with 1-2 glasses per day, but my housemate needs more.
I think you just have to experiment until you find out what dosage works best for your particular needs. It definitely works though! Thank you so much Earth Clinic!!!"
[YEA] 06/08/2009: Pcline from Springfield, Ohio: "Turmeric has controlled almost all of my health issues! I am amazed! It was given to me by a relative when I fell on the ice, to prevent swelling and inflammation in my injured knee, and while it appeared to make a difference (I continued to be able to walk, and the pain and swelling abated quickly) the most wonderful thing that emerged was that I realized about a week later that the my whole sinus/allergy issue was clearing up. I had been taking at least one Zyrtec and often either more Zyrtec or other sinus medication every day for over 18 years to keep the ever-lurking migraine away. I could not have gone more than 24 hours without taking the Zyrtec or a headache would start creeping up and my sinuses would begin to swell shut. First I saw, after taking turmeric for about a week, that I did not need any "back-up" medication, then I tried missing a Zyrtec, and to my complete amazement, I felt GREAT! No headaches! I can breathe! I cannot believe it.
I take at least a heaping teaspoon of turmeric (from the spice section of the grocery, although I am looking for it in bulk now) stirred in water as soon as I get up, and one in the evening. If I begin to feel any swelling during the day, such as when I am exposed to household dust, I take another teaspoon right away, and it eliminates the "headache creep". I stay ahead of the allergies this way, but if I cannot get turmeric when the swelling starts, and it begins to cause headaches, when I can get to the turmeric, I may have to take several teaspoon doses before it alleviates, leaving a half-hour or so before I take each additional dose, but IT WORKS! It has ALWAYS EVENTUALLY WORKED. I have not had to take more than three additional doses to stop what used to be RAGING migraines, causing me to have to go to bed and be debilitated for hours afterward.
I feel marvelous, but the additional benefits have been that I realize that my arthritis in my knees is all but gone! I can walk up stairs most of the time without noticing any discomfort at all!
Finally, most astonishingly, I (and everyone I know who has begun to take this) have begun to LOSE WEIGHT! I determined after a bout of intestinal virus to eat less food at a time. (After all, I had not been able to eat anything for 3 days, so this was a good time to break a habit) This was just before I started taking turmeric. With the addition of the turmeric, I feel, I was able to eat less. Nothing else has ever made a difference in my being able to eat less and not feel ravenous and deprived. In just over 3 months, I have lost 48 pounds!!!! And I feel energetic, fabulous, lively and alert! I cannot say what actual physical role turmeric plays as a weight loss aid, but I don't care. I am 53 years old and feel better than I have in YEARS!
I have begun to try turmeric on everything that occurs. I got a spider bite and it began to itch and sting immediately. I washed it right away and put a band-aid with moistened turmeric on it and in minutes, the pain and itch left, no sign of any bite. My family jokes that I would try to revive the dead by sprinkling some turmeric on them, but I cannot believe what a difference just taking turmeric has made with me."
[YEA] 07/10/2008: Liana from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada: "Turmeric reduced my PMS symptoms substantially. I was born and raised in Central Java, Indonesia. In addition to the fact that turmeric has been used in cooking for many centuries, it is one of the common home-made herbal remedies for menstrual cramps.
This is the version that I used effectively on myself while living in Western countries where fresh turmeric root was not available:
1.Boil 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in 1 to 2 cups of water.
2.Add lemon/lime juice.
3.Add honey (or sugar) to taste.
4. Drink this once a day.
Whenever I remembered to take this about 5 days before my menses, I had absolutely no discomfort whatsoever. And ... as a bonus, my complexion that turned itchy, bumpy and/or pimply before and during menstruation usually stayed smooth.
Now come to think of it, even though I am now post-menopausal, I probably will still benefit from this concoction. Thank you to all of those who write how turmeric root/powder cures other ailments such as colds."
