BUYING TURMERIC CAPSULES - WARNING!

07/21/2008: If you decide to buy turmeric capsules, please read all the ingredients on the packaging! We recently bought a bottle Turmeric Curcumin at the chain GNC for $21.99 (gulp!) because so many of our readers mentioned buying capsules instead of powder in the spice section of a grocery store for $3-$4. We got the bottle home and inspected it more. We were quite dismayed to see Dicalcium Phosphate and Maltodextrin listed as "Other Ingredients". Reported side effects of Malodextrin are bloating and headaches. The caveats and side effects of Dicalcium Phosphate are reported here: http://www.superglisodin.com/dcp.html.

Wikipedia's official opinion is the same:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium_hydrogen_phosphate

"Our position appears to be contrary to the majority of manufacturers and distributors of nutritional products. our decision is based on research and years of experience watching results of dietary supplement intake on hair mineral analysis reports. The Origin of DCP Mined from deposits within the earth's crust, calcium phosphate is known by many synonyms such as "lime," "hardware lime," "calcium lime" or "dolomite." Mixed samples of the substance may have a high percentage of impurities imbedded in them which may be harmful."

Curcumin Preparation and Bioavailability

Curcumin is getting lots of scientific interest these days. Every month additional scientific studies are published on the effects of curcumin on different biochemical pathways.

Just keep one thing in mind. The curcumin used in these laboratory studies was dissolved in alcohol or DMSO. In short, the curcumin was made soluble in certain solvents that do not translate well for introduction into the human body.

The following two papers studied the effects of 3.6 grams of oral curcumin, in capsules, on humans. The first study is quite clear that curcumin simply does not enter the body in sufficient quantities to be medically effective.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/queryd.fcgi?cmd
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/queryd.fcgi?

In this study, oral doses of 3.6 grams of curcumin a day showed blood levels of 10nM. This is a VERY low concentration of curcumin. Yet, it was apparently enough to reduce prostaglandin E2 synthesis in colon cancer patients.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/

In order for curcumin to be maximally effective against cancer, it MUST be introduced into the body in a bioavailable form. Curcumin is almost totally insoluble in water. On the other hand, it is completely soluble in fat.

Curcumin dissolves readily in coconut milk or cream, especially if they are warm. There is NO reason to boil coconut milk or cream in order to dissolve curcumin. Never boil anything unless you are absolutely certain the heat will not damage the medicinal properties of the natural medicine. I have no idea how heat stable curcumin is for medicinal purposes. So don't boil it.

Curcumin that is dissolved in fat will be introduced into the lymphatic system with the fat. There is exactly where we want curcumin to be introduced into the body. The lymphatic fluid bathes all the tissues in the body. We are NOT interested in directly introducing it into the blood.

People complain about the taste of curcumin. So add other spices, such as turmeric, or other spices to the mix to change the taste.

How much curcumin do we need to treat cancer and leukemia? No one knows but I would recommend at least 10 grams a day, 5 grams twice a day dissolved in fat. Since curcumin is not toxic, why screw around with low doses?

You must use glutamine, at least 20 grams a day, with the curcumin to make it maximally effective. I blogged on this issue yesterday.

Stay tuned..."

Curcumin Bulk Source The following is our preferred supplier of bulk natural medicines. We have purchased from them before and their service and prices are excellent. Our main HIV mouse, Mouse Peter, is taking 12 grams of curcumin a day in coconut milk without any side effects at all. The curcumin is from this company. The Famous Mouse Blanche turned us on to this company. The company is Supplement Health Formulations in Mayer Arizona. They ship internationally.

http://shfnatural.com/ingredients.html

Scroll down to Turmeric Extract, 95% curcumin. 500 grams. The cost is $65 for 500 grams bulk, a great price. Curcumin comes in red to orange colors. This is NOT a issue of purity. The amount of moisture in the product determines the color. No big deal. Supplement Health Formulations will be added to our list of preferred suppliers on the home page. Stay tuned...

Curry Spice May Help Tackle Cancer
Tues Apr 9, 2002, 5:34 PM ET

By Jacqueline Stenson

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The substance that gives the spice turmeric its yellow color may help fight cancer, preliminary evidence suggests.

Researchers have found in the lab that the active ingredient in turmeric, called curcumin, can enhance the cancer-fighting power of treatment with TRAIL, a naturally occurring molecule that helps kill cancer cells. TRAIL stands for tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand.

In an experiment with human prostate cancer cells in a laboratory dish, the combination treatment killed off two to three times more cells than either treatment alone, according to a study released Tuesday at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in San Francisco, California.

"Using these two agents--curcumin and TRAIL--we killed up to 80% of cells in culture," said study author Subhash Gautam, a researcher at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. "That's pretty remarkable."

The next step is to see if the results with this experimental treatment combination can be reproduced in lab animals, he said.

Turmeric is a common ingredient in Indian food, Gautam noted. Indian folklore suggests it helps reduce inflammation, he said, and there is some laboratory evidence that it has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Other studies in the laboratory and in animals suggest the spice can help wounds heal and could also be protective against Alzheimer's.

While turmeric consumption has not been proven to lower cancer risk, Gautam pointed out that the spice contains plant phytochemicals that are associated with many health benefits, including cancer prevention. --- Copyright %uFFFD 2002 Reuters Limited.

TURMERIC TEA FOR JOINT PAIN

RECIPE FOR RELIEVING JOINT PAIN
Gurudev Khar Khalsa, a Sat Nam Rasayan healer and Kundalini Yoga teacher in Los Angeles sent us this Ayurvedic tea for lubricating the joints. Gurudev tells us that the almond oil is a very important part of this recipe. Turmeric is called "the internal healer" in Ayurveda. Turmeric is also a blood purifier and is best known for its ability to help the female reproductive organs. Some research indicates that turmeric may be of value in preventing diabetes and cancer.

Recipe:
1/8 teaspoon turmeric, 3 cardamom pods (optional), 1/4 cup water. Simmer 5 to 7 minutes, then add : 1 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons almond oil (cold pressed). Bring just to the boiling point (but do not boil). Add honey or maple syrup to taste. Sip slowly as a hot tea.

ALLERGIES

5 YEA

[YEA]  07/08/2008: Aster from Vancouver Island, Canada writes: "The infection is nearly gone!

I wanted to share, as well, that I have very bad seasonal allergies requiring daily anti-histamine treatment, plus eye drops and nasal spray. As a side effect of taking the turmeric capsules (I must assume as nothing else has changed), I do not have allergies today. It is very hot and dry and I was in the garden for hours today... it is the height of allergy season. I realized I had not taken anti-histamines for two days but have no allergies. I really didn't expect that!!!!"

[YEA]  01/11/2007: Lorelei from Utah writes: "I'm so glad I read about turmeric for allergies. It seems too simple, but after trying and failing with ACV and honey, the turmeric worked miracles! Every time I stop taking it, the allergies come back. I'm allergic to our 2 dogs and cat, dust, and practically every plant out there. I was popping pills and snorting drugs daily, so the fact that this works is amazing. Two months pill free -- we'll see when spring hits! At first I was putting it in my drinks and whatever food I could, but now I fill gel capsules with turmeric, and take 2 to 5 a day (up to a tsp worth), depending on how sneezy I am. If I do it regularly, I can get away with only 1 or 2 capsules a day. You can also buy capsules, but they seemed pretty expensive (as long as you don't mind staining your fingers yellow to make your own). Sometimes I take a little extra Vit C too, depending on how I am feeling, but it doesn't seem to matter too much for me. As a side note, if your eyes get itchy, put a wet chamomile tea bag on them. That seems to help too."

[YEA]  08/18/2006: Gail from Minnesota writes: "I had difficulty breathing all last winter. My chest felt so tight it was hard to get a breath. I was taking care of my daughter's two cats and dog in addition to my own cat. I have mild allergies to these animals but this many probably was an overload. I read on the internet, maybe here, that turmeric is anti allergenic and anti-inflamatory. I took a teaspoonful every day in a glass of water. After three days I could breath perfectly. I will continue to take this for as long as I live. I heard on the news that this is the worst hayfever season in a long time. I'm having almost no symptoms at all."

[YEA]  07/23/2006: Betty from Wheeling, WV writes: "I started taking increased doses of Vitamin C a number of years ago at my doctor's recommendation for a tendency to bruise easily. One of the other unexpected benefits is that my sinuses cleared up. I used to wake up sneezing and would continue throughout the morning, sometimes through the entire day, year round. After experimenting with different dosages, I am now on a maintenance level of 2000 mg of Vitamin C daily and this keeps my allergies under control usually 50-51 weeks out of the year. Occasionally, I may have a flare-up and need something else. When that happens, I stir 1 teaspoon of ground Turmeric into an 8 oz. glass of water and drink it. Within 15 minutes, I am breathing freely once again and no more sneezing!"

BOILS

4 YEA

[YEA]  02/01/2008: Ang from Auckland, New Zealand writes: "Thank you for your wonderful website! I tried your tumeric cure on my 8 1/2 year old son, who just recently had school sores (impetigo), and then started to develop a boil (which is exactly what happened last time he had school sores at age 5 - he then went on to have boils for about 4 months). I gave him a tsp of tumeric in a chocolate milkshake 3 x per day for two days and the boil totally dried up and didn't get big or painful...and, no more boils have developed after 1 week! Awesome!!"

[YEA]  01/23/2008: Shery from Paris, France writes: "I always believed in magic and you proved it today. I have had a big ugly and terribly painful boil on my stomach for a few days. I know this must be because of hair follicle infection as well as fat (yeah yeah, stomach with loads of fat, and hair on it too. hmmm not nice but real). It has been very painful and I am on mission in Nepal of all places. So I googled "boils" this morning to make sure they were not cancerous, and I fall on your website and the turmeric suggestion. Since I do happen to be in Nepal where everyone believes in ayurvedic medicine, I went to the hotel kitchen and asked for turmeric, and drank a full glass of water with a tablespoon of it. Yuck but the waiters were telling me that they drink this with milk to cure their sore throats. I went back to my room and forgot it although I smelled quite bad. 4 hours later, padam, the front of my pants got totally wet with blood and pus. The boil burst open and I burst out laughing. Your remedy WORKS; I thank you so much and will keep this website bookmarked for life."

[YEA]  06/21/2007: Aaron from Cape Coral, Florida writes: "I tried the TURMERIC remedy for boils about 4 days ago, initially with little hope it would work, but in a state of desperation, since this was my THIRD boil in less than 6 weeks, and I had 2 more starting! I went out as soon as I finished reading all of the testimonials on your site, and bought a bottle of Turmeric capsules from my local GNC. That night I took three 500mg caps with dinner, and another 4 capsules before going to bed. (If a teaspoon is good, a tablespoon is better!) The next morning the boil on my stomach, which was a dark purple golf ball radiating excruciating pain the night before, was now a light purple golf ball that was starting to drain, and the pain had gone down by 80 to 90%!

In addition, one of the new boils that was just starting, (a tiny painful pimple,) started to heal, and the other one, slightly larger, while it didn't go away, it stopped growing, and with 72 hours it too drained (really like a normal pimple, only thicker discharge and more painful.)

It's now been about 4 days, and while the large boil is still draining (the core came out yesterday) and is still very tender, it is healing and no other boils are starting.

BUT! The big BONUS is this: The arthritis in my shoulder that I've been suffering with for the last year, is gone, and even more exciting, I have been dealing with Heal Spurs (Plantar Fasciitis) for about 2 years, and have been suffering TREMENDOUS pain in my foot, every day, all day.

Within 24 hours of taking the Turmeric, my feet have COMPLETELY stopped hurting!!!I plan to continue taking at least one capsule a day indefinitely as a preventative for recurring boils, and as an apparent remedy for my Heal Spurs!!! The real miracle here is that I don't even believe in natural remedies! Thanks so much for the great advice!!!"

I've seen my grandmother & then mother using turmeric for variety of skin problems & wounds, trust me it does work immaterial of what this modern day medicine claims. BOILS AND ACNE

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/06/2008: Havilah from Auburn, CA writes: "I have had boils and severe acne since I was ten years old. I'm twenty five now. The boils spread from my face to my back and arms, and then to my thighs and other areas in that region. I was unable to find a remedy. It was very frustrating and painful. I discovered this website last year and have used several remedies successfully for other issues. One day I discovered the section on boils and saw that many people recomended turmeric. I started taking app. 7 capsules of turmeric every day. I purchased the capsules from Wal-Mart. They are very inexpensive. Within two weeks my face cleared up. It's been four weeks now and no new boils have appeared at any place on my body. I get compliments from friends and family asking what I did to clear my face up. The turmeric not only cleared up the boils but the acne as well."

Then add about half a cup of milk, heat to just below boiling point, and drink the mixture slowly, while hot. [YEA]  10/25/2007: Dan (abend1960@yahoo.com) from Cary, North Carolina writes: "Turmeric is one of the miracle spices in the world. Turmeric also builds your immune system. Since my Childhood I have always had sinus problems - runny nose - stuffed up when weather changes - I would be miserable for months - missing school – work when I came to USA.

Since last 4 yrs I have been taking less then ¼ teaspoon of turmeric + pinch of black pepper mixed in milk ( 8 oz ) - warm it in microwave for 1 min 30 sec - stir it an drink that before going to bed ( you can take this in morning / afternoon – anytime you like )

I am a changed person – no runnier nose – no sneezing – when weather changes (especially during spring/fall) – I have no problem with pollens. During cold months I have no runny nose. My kids used to get sick during school months – now they also daily drink milk with turmeric – they are also free from cold and fall less sick during school time. Here are few ways you can take turmeric to help yourself.

1. Take less then ¼ teaspoon of powdered turmeric + pinch of black pepper in 8oz of Cup – pour milk – place it in microwave warm it – ( Warm enough so that you can drink it ) - I usually warm it 1:30 min – remove stir it – enjoy your drink an your health.

2. You can also take ¼ teaspoon of turmeric in small cup – pour honey and warm it in microwave for 5 to 10 seconds – mix it well – using spoon eat it – 1 teaspoon – 3 times a day if you have cold / cough.

Have faith and continue drinking this – it may take 3 – 6 months before you start seeing results in your health. Need more information – mail me your question I will try to answer your question when time permits This site has great information – it has helped me with ACV – Oil Pulling – I am looking into H202 now. Good Luck to one and all."

CYSTIC ACNE

2 YEA

[YEA]  04/17/2008: Stephanie from Rancho Cucamonga, CA writes: "Turmeric for Cystic Acne. I have had cystic acne on my face for years and have spent thousands of dollars on acne medicine that doesn't work. I finally came upon Turmeric and so far, so good. I apply it to my acne as a paste. I mix Turmeric spice and unrefined sesame oil till it makes a paste. I have been leaving it on for an hour or more a day for the last 3 days. I immediately noticed that the acne comes to the surface and begins to drain and has reduced in size considerably. I am only on day three and had about 7-8 fairly large cystic acne on my face. It is clearing nicely and I will update as to the finished results. Turmeric does turn everything yellow, including your skin. The yellowing of the skin will go away with washing. However, traces of turmeric will be left on your face and will stain pillowcases, sheets, clothing, sinks, and countertops."

I got on internet last night and saw massive responses to turmeric, and ran out to store and drank my first glass, which was disgusting. Hold your nose, chug it down, and chase with juice or pop. I put neosporin on the 3 on my face, and this morning swelling is down by 50%, and pain is gone. the disgusting taste is worth it trust me. I am amazed that something this inexpensive works so well, do doctors know? they must, but don't get money for advising patients to use something that only costs a couple dollars at a grocery store. My son is going to try today."

CYSTS/MRSA

3 YEA

[YEA]  02/02/2008: Steve from Pretoria, South Africa writes: "I have been fighting a battle with boils/cysts since February 2007. From Feb to Apr 2007 I have been lanced in the operating theater 3 times, and 5 times in the surgeons consultation rooms.

The cysts would appear on the right loin, lanced, then another would appear on the left loin.

I have seen an urologist, internist, ear, nose and throat specialist, and surgeon whose answer to everything was lance it.

It was a battle which started to effect my work, personal life. Within 48 hours the boil will start, and then grow till ready to burst. I couldn't plan any holidays, trips.

Then after May 2007 it went away, and I was ecstatic about this "remission" as it turned out. Lo and behold October 2007 it can back with a vengeance. Which I had once again lanced. This seems to correspond with Earth Clinic's theory on rain and MRSA because no boil appeared during these winter months.

Then I decided to take my health into my own hands and made an appointment with a natural health practitioner. He did help a lot in reversing free radical damage, etc but he said to cut caffeine and aspartame. Which I did, but the boils re-appeared. My GP said that the medical profession can't help my further.

I then went Cyberhunting and came upon earthclinic.com. I have read the testimonies of almost everybody and decided to give turmeric a run for its money. I also decided not to report back within a couple of days to ensure tried results before any feedback.

2 Boils started to appear on my left loin. In less than a day the boils were red and inflamed. I immediately went to the nearest supermarket to purchase turmeric. Within a couple of hours the pain seemed less. The next morning the pain was CONSIDERABLY less and the boils shrunk to 1/3 of its original size. And on day 3 zip, gone, nothing, nada.

I have been using Turmeric for 1.5 months and it is still gone.

I want to thank earthclinic and Ted for their efforts and I would like to state today that you guys have saved my life, literally. I was on my way to fournier's gangrene and I do not think I would've survived that.

Some comments on the Turmeric journey:

It does give you constipation and dehydrate you. Drink plenty water and buy some extra electrolytes.

For the padded problem try Milk of Magnesium, 2 teaspoons should turn on Niagara falls.

I am currently experiencing with dosage, and I am currently running on 1 half teaspoon morning and night. Remember we are all different so test what works best for you.

I wish you well."
