Blackstrap Molasses Cure for Constipation
Home Remedy Ingredients
- Unsulphured Blackstrap Molasses - 1 Tablespoon
Add one tablespoon of blackstrap molasses (a more concentrated form than most grocery store brands) to foods in your regular diet twice a day. BSM can be combined with any food or beverage for dietary intake.
[YEA] 10/09/2007: Dodie from LA, California: "I've been taking blackstrap molasses for a week now and thank goodness I've been getting 3 bowel movements a day!! I have a hard time getting bowel movements partially cause of the foods that I eat but I am working on it. Also, my father has the same issues. Also, my face is glowing and I've gotten a couple of comments and how good my skin looks! I hope it doesn't stop working for me."
[YEA] 07/21/2007: Tish from Chicago, Il: "My period has been always heavy that my hemoglobin level is always low that I have to take iron and shot every 2 weeks. ITs hard also to work and go to the bathroom every now and then. When I bleed it like for 10 days and more. I was diagnosed with fibroid just 2 months ago and I found your website just weeks before my surgery and its my second day of my period. I started taking the molasses and the next day my period slow down and no blood clotting and it stopped after 5 days. My daughter is always suffering from constipation and I recommended her this and she said she never pooh like this before..THANK YOU!"
[YEA] 06/04/2007: Mimmer from LONDON, ENGLAND: "Hi all, I was chatting with a lady at work who suggested BSM and ACV [apple cider vinegar]. For a year I have suffered with constipation, bad back and general tightness of muscles in the neck area. For 20 yrs i have had trouble with fibroids (had surgery but too multiple to remove all). On 26-5-07, I bought BSM and ACV. I took it right away, doses-2 large spoons of BSM in warm water, followed by 3 tablespoons of ACV in warm water. I done this morning b4 breakfast and last thing at night. The second day on it I had a very easy bowel movement and have done everyday since. My constipation is now a thing of the past. My back (which I had to get medication from the doctors for-didnt help) was cured during the week, along with the muscle ache. I sleep deeper and don't seem to eat as much. I totally know that this 'tonic' as I like to call it will clear my fibroids eventually. I also want to see after 3months how i do as I want to give it to my Auntie for her Arthritis. I thank you all for posting your experiences as this has given me constant strength and encouragement. I look forward to this journey and please if you are having or have had VICTORY over fibroids with 'The Tonic' then please post so I can read it. I am a big believer in foods for healing and this sure is a testament to God's produce."
[YEA] 02/28/2007: Jennifer from Greenfield, WI: "I went to the health food store to ask about what I could give my 15 month-old son for constipation. They suggested 1-2 tsp. of blackstrap molasses in his bottle. I bought the bottle, came home, came to this website and discovered all different things this stuff is good for. I am 8 months pregnant. I was having a lot of trouble sleeping and developing symptoms of restless leg syndrome (common in pregnancy). I decided to give it a shot. Long story short, my son is pooping like a champ and I started sleeping through the night without any jerking limbs ON THE FIRST DAY! I ran out for one day, and I had a horrible night sleep. I am amazed and delighted"Replies
[NAY] 04/11/2010: Rosemaryandsage from Ashland, Wi replies: "This definitely did not work for me. If you are sensitive to sugar, this may not be best. I took a tablespoon of molasses in the morning, and the rest of the day was ruined by extreme bloating and gas, rumbling sensation and pain.I should have known this would happen because even one tablespoon of honey and too much fruit results in the same for me. I love molasses (in food, mixed), but this is too intense for me, and it did not result in a bm."
Multi-Vitamin Side Effects
03/25/2009: Ali from Kitchener, Ontario Canada: "I am a sixty-five year old female with slight bone loss in the lower spine. The Doctor has recommended fosomax and suggested a good multi vitamin. I have never liked the idea of taking chemicals of any kind, but I relented and bought some. Within days I found I became extremely constipated. The Doctor said I should change brands and make sure it had a high magnesium content as calcium can be constipating. I have now tried six differant kinds and have not found one that I can take without causing constipation. I eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and veggies whole grains and eight glasses of water daily plus green tea, several cups a day. I am presently taking 2 tesp. apple cider viniger in eight oz. cold water morning and night in an attempt to lose a little weight, just started, will let you all know how that goes, in the mean time if anyone can give me a solution to my problem with the multi vitamin I would be sooooooo relieved (I can not take calcium it causes same problem} If anyone can help with advice I will be so thankfull. EARTH CLINIC IS AN AMAZING SITE, PLEASE KEEP ON KEEPING ON,LOVE IT. Ali"Replies
03/27/2009: Rosy from Orlando, fL replies: "Try Dolomite for your calcium. It is highly bio-available and may not cause any bowel issues."
08/05/2009: Marg from Nashville, Tn replies: "Have you tried whole food vitamins? Synthetic vitamins can cause problems."
08/06/2009: Connie from Manitowoc, Wisconsin replies: "What I'm finding elsewhere online says it may be the iron, as well as the calcium. Someone also suggested taking magnesium-plus-calcium pills with the multi, the magnesium is supposed to cancel out the calcium."
08/06/2009: Betty from Spearsville, La. replies: "Dear Ali,
Yes calcium will most certainly cause constipation. As a lifelong sufferer I can not tell you how happy I am to have found that magnesium is the answer. I have found that magnesium citrate works best. If you find diarrhea develops just back off it. It draws water to the intestines. I use 600 mg/day in 3 doses of 200mg. Research says you should have at least a 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium. I take 1200 mg calcium daily as well as strontium citrate for osteoporosis. I do not use the biophosphates because of the side effects. Best of luck to you."
01/28/2013: Mahi from New Delhi, India: "Hi, I have chronic constipation and this is what I did and I am still doing it everyday. I take one spoon wheat grass powder soaked in water and with that I put a half teaspoon of salt. Also I mix little vinegar and almunium free baking soda. Sometimes I also put one spoon olive oil or coconut oil with that. I mix everything and drink in the warm water. I drink three to four glass of water with that in the morning everyday. The key ingrident here is salt, apple cider vinegar and baking soda. Take vinegar just little beat and mix baking soda with that. If you take vinegar it gives you constipation. You can also use lemon instead of vinegar. Also I drink my first urine in the morning that also helps in constipation. Sometimes for extra cleansing I also take neem powder. I try to change the thing what I take to see which one is working better. Hope it helps"
[NAY] 01/25/2013: Jb from Somewhere, Va: "Sooo for the past 10 months or so I have been constantly constipated. I had a couple months of regularity last spring but I don't recall doing anything then that I'm not doin now. I thought it was hormonal so I do chaste tree berry and BSM nothing. On the first day of my period I get some relief but before my period even ends I'm back to being constipated.
- I've thought it was depression/stress and tried 5htp helped for a little bit nothing.
- Tried high fiber lots of water I exercise everyday all the usual remedies obviously.
- Tried magnesium and coconut oil.
My eyes look puffier when I'm constipated. I feel like during the 2 days where I had relief on my period not only was my stomach not poking out anymore but my eyes looked wider and brighter.
I'm really at a loss."
01/26/2013: Baldev from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India replies: "Hi JB, First of all, stop worrying. There is no big problem, by worrying you are becoming more constipated. If you have tried every thing and still no joy, so now you can start taking freshly grounded flax seed powder two table spoon full in a glass of water twice a day. This should give you a smooth bowel movement. Good Luck
01/26/2013: Faeqa from Amman, Jordan replies: "Hi Jb: Try to eat boiled whole wheat it cure any kind of constipation, no matter what the cause of it. You can add honey and raisin or any kind of spices u like it to make it taste better if u dont like it plain, and eat it as breakfast cereal."
01/26/2013: Oldriska from Prague, Czech Republic replies: "Hi Jb, you should find out why you're constipated. If you've tried the usual remedies, such as drinking plenty of water, magnesium, oils, exercise... And they don't work, then constipation could be a demonstration of a more serious, internal problem. I think the best you can do for yourself is to find a good and thorough gastroenterologist and start from there. You'll get examined and if there are any findings then it's up to you if you decide for the conventional medicine or go the aternative way. Either way, I hope you'll find relief soon."
01/28/2013: Daniel from Edmonton, Alberta replies: "constipation? you tried this.
1.take 4 to 6 pcs of dates (fruits from middle east but you can buy that in any supermarket) before going to bed. drink 1 to 2 cups of water in the morning before going to washroom.
2.toast rice into brown then boil it.
drink 1 cup of boiled toasted rice plus 1 cup of water before going to washroom
this 2 method is very effective and no side effect."

[NAY] 07/27/2010: Lctao4 from Gainesville, Fl: "I've been trying to detox from candida. I'm pretty sure it was candida but I'm not passing my bowels and it's affecting me emotionally and mentally. I've tried the salt, aloe, ACV, flax seeds, etc and still nothing without a suppository. I don't want to keep expelling because it's damaging to the intestinal lining. I'm eating yogurt to help with that. I'm getting scared though because I"m not passing my waste. Any help would be great. I'm on a mainly vegetable diet with no sugar, whites or grains and few proteins and a little fat. Still nothing. Suggestions are very welcome. Thanks."Replies
[YEA] 09/25/2010: Nickie from Ruislip, Middlesex, Uk replies: "Could be you are not getting sufficient protein. When I've been doing a fruit and veg cleanse for a few days and then eat an egg the result is almost immediate. You need protein and egg is the most easily available to the body and closest to human protein. Next best is liver lightly cooked but I am aware most Americans don't like the thought of eating innards."
04/29/2011: Debbie from Melbourne , Australia replies: "Taking fibre for constipation only masks the problem. The problem is many people these days don't have enough good bacteria in the gut to digest food properly. You need to take a good probiotic and have a digestive enzyme with each meal. Fermented foods (like apple cider vinegar) also add back good bacteria into the gut."
05/10/2011: Lory from Tarlac City, Philippines replies: "Have you tried eating ripe papaya for your constipation? In the Philippines, that's what people eat as remedy to this problem."
05/10/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Take vitamin C first thing in the morning, works a treat. A cup of tea of hot water, maybe with lemon works well too, or else fruit first thing in the morning, or a glass of warm water with molasses. See what works for you!"
[NAY] 06/08/2010: Ninka from Jhb, S. Africa: "hi i just need help my mother suffers from chronic constipation. she is 59 a has been a diabetic for 27yrs and hypertension. 06/09/2010: Mary from Regina, Saskchewan replies: "How awful! Why dont you check out Bills magnesium water recipe on this site. Take 2 drinks a day half mag water mixed with half water. Mary"
EC: Mary is referring to Bill's post here.
06/09/2010: Lucy from Santa Cruz, Ca replies: "A good old, quart size, enema bag filled with plan warm water. Ask for a hot water bottle, no one knows what an enema bag is or what it's used for. I repeat until I get the results I want, could take 30-45 minutes. Check your weight before and after, to make sure you eliminate all the water. Massage your lower belly to get things moving, and try to hold as much water as you can before eliminating. You'll eliminate between 1-2 pounds or more of fecal matter."
05/15/2011: Andrea C from Cardiff, Wales replies: "HI I just posted b/carb borax 4 constipation with amounts in distilled water. it should be up within 24/48 hours. make sure mum has access 2 a toilet, in case it works 4 her like it did 4 me!!! heres hoping! love ANDREA C X X X"
[YEA] 10/30/2006: Desire from Chicago, IL: "5HTP, Omega3, Chlorophyll, ACV, Lemon and H2O everyday, Yoga 4 days a week. This combination has cured plenty; depression, regularity, appetite suppressant, etc. I'm just one happy camper"
[YEA] 01/23/2011: Anne from Dallas , Pa: "I have suffered from chronic constipation all of my life (47years), however my constipation was elevated to a whole new level of difficulty after a difficult child birth that required a surgical repair of my rectal wall - no pushing power. I tried everything: stool softeners, psyllium fiber, M---lax and a prescribtion medication for IBS. I eat a high fiber diet and stay hydrated But nothing worked. If you are reading this I don't have to tell you that this is really bad for the female self image. Constipation is not sexy!
This past summer I stumbled on what has been a "miracle" for me: oat bran. 100% oat bran is prepared as a hot cereal that I eat daily for breakfast (not to be confused w/ oat bran). It took a week or so, but for the most part I have been constipation free for the better part of 6 months. I have a normal BM almost daily and sometimes 2 times daily. Sometimes I might get a touch of constipation and to my amazement a single stool softener will now Do the trick, if I stick w/ my Oat bran regime. And best of all it is delicious w/ a little Spoon of sugar and some butter, Raisins and a few walnuts-yummy. I Love it! And it good for Controlling cholesterol as a bonus.
May be hard to find in a conventional grocery store, but most health food sections Of a store will have it. Some stores carry it in the loose bulk section. Any good health food store will have it. It's usually pretty cheap, but shop around if price is a consideration. Should be less than 3.50 for a small box that will last me at least 2 weeks.
I was able to rid myself of constipation. Now I will try the ACV for my Interrmitant abd pain. Good luck friends."
[YEA] 12/03/2008: Maribel from Miami, Florida: "FOR CONSTIPATION:
You go to Whole Foods and in the bulk section you buy OAT BRAN, it's very unexpensive. it is like powder and you just put 1-2 spoonfuls in your cereal or in anything and it's like magic, in less than 1 hour you have a bowel movement and natural not forced like with laxatives."
[YEA] 05/08/2008: Jean from Calgary Alberta, Canada: "Constipation Remedy: Eat your porridge! A bowl of oatmeal porridge every morning (preferably made with large old fashioned oats) will keep your body working regularly. Adding some pumpkin seeds and dried fruit is even better. Takes only 4 minutes in the microwave."
Olive Oil and Orange Juice
[YEA] 11/26/2007: susan from jupiter, florida: "I tried the olive oil and orange juice remedy for the constipation. It worked within ten minutes without stomach cramping and awful side effects like all the other over the counter laxatives can do. Thank you very much, I wish I found this remedy sooner."
