I also suffer from allergies, anxiety. I am a mess need to be free of all these problems help me please!!! Anisa"

04/04/2011: Debbie from Melbourne , Australia replies: "Hi Anisa. Probiotics, digestive enzymes, apple cider vinegar. Fermented foods. My likely your gut needs help with digestion. Google youtube and there is heaps of information.

If you just try to add fibre to your diet it won't work because you need the proper bacteria in your gut for it to start working properly."

04/04/2011: Lily from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia replies: "Hi Anisa ali, I understand your pain with constipation. Honestly I took flaxseed (linseed), fibre supplements, laxatives, vegetable and fruit of every fibrous kind, even prune juice and pear juice. The only thing that ended up helping me was Magnesium. I bought a bottle in the supermarket and never looked back. I only took one a day maybe two sometimes. It also helps with anxiety, it is quite calming for the nervous system. Also you could try a high dose of vit c, maybe 1000mg. Hope this helps. Lily."
04/04/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "1000mg of Vit. C is not a high dose... Maybe by today's standards of 60mg a day but those are quite ridiculous, if you don't mind me saying so!"
04/04/2011: Someone from From Somewhere, In This Planet replies: "Anisa, please try urine therapy. It works! It's free! I'm using and give my urine to my mom for her Alzheimer's, depression, high blood pressure, insomnia. To my daughter for her menstrual problems, constipation, allergies and MS, and to my five cats to improve their food. In just a week I noticed a difference. Don't waste your time and money in medicines. Google UT. There is a lot of information in the net."

09/09/2010: Tina from New York writes: "I'm usually completely regular. I'm on vacation in a different time zone - 8 hours difference. I haven't had a bowel movement in 5 days. It feels as though my body simply forgot about bowel movements. I don't feel bloated. It's not that I sit down and can't do the job. It's just not happening every morning as it usually does. Last night I took a Tbsp. of lemon with a tbsp. of olive oil. This morning I took a few tbsp. of lemon with a few of olive oil. Nada. Can anyone help me?"

Replies
09/09/2010: Lisa from Lafayette, La replies: "Same exact thing happens to me. When I am on vacation, the bowel movements stay at home! I try different things. I will eat a little yogurt in the morning and a dry piece of toast. Sometimes that does the trick. Drink LOTS of water, don't skimp on that. Also, try taking magnesium powder mixed in a little tiny bit of orange juice, try about 1200 mg per day, divided up into two doses. It's a lot, but it does the trick for me. A little runny, but it's better than none at all. When I get home, all is well again!"
09/10/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "I have the same problem whenever I travel. I have several solutions: eat a couple of prunes (not too many), drink a glass of warm water or a cup of tea first thing in the morning, eat some fruit first thing (any fruit works for me), drink a glass of water with molasses and drink enough water! I hope this helps..."

[YEA]  04/28/2008: saab from vancouver, canada writes: "Using sea salt/acv for constipation has worked better for me than following remedies: psyllium husk, extra fibre every night(wheat bran), water+b.soda+acv etc. I use 250 ml warm water, few sprinkles of sea salt (pinch)+1 tbsp organic ACV. This has also cleared up stubborn adult acne on the throat.I am just not sure of the long term use of salt every in the morning,if it would corrode the organs. Many heartfelt thanks, nevertheless for the site and its info."

[YEA]  05/18/2011: Diamond from Salisbury, Ma.usa writes: "I am 66 years old and I have had severe problems moving my bowels, while I was too busy working etc. I never really thought much about it, but I started having dizzy spells and bad headaches, I went to the doctor and told him I have never moved my bowels; he said thats totally impossible(?)he then said where does it go? I felt he was the doc. so I also left the answers up to him as well.

During my journey here on mother earth, I used herbal remedies which were great but after so many years they too stopped working, then I found this wonderful site where I find everything here is very informative and 100% accurate.

I recently found I had a bacterial infection, my doctor chose to put me on antibiotics/ciproflaxin to be exact;my reaction to this med. Was that it felt like some one heavy was standing or sitting on my chest, I had this severe crushing feeling and my breathing got worse. I have since tried Ted's methods of sea salt and it has done many wonders for me, it has helped with brain fog, bowel movements, as well as the bacterial infection that continues to come back during damp, cold weather also when I eat ice cream.

I love the sea salt with water and a light touch of real lemon juice and it works great for me.

I use sea salt and blackstrap molasses for my dogs as they too are constipated, and one dog the vet says has signs of cancer. No sooner did I give the dogs the sea salt they both went out side, with great results. Thank you so much Ted for making this site possible for us to share.

I am hoping my body heals with all the lack of concern I had in the past and the lack of treatments I got. I am feeling 100% better already. Much love and safety on your journey as well. Namaste.......... God bless"

[NAY]  03/28/2009: David from NY, NY writes: "I tried the Sea Salt cleanse this morning and it did nothing for me :( I've been reading and it seems to work for just about everyone who tries it. I would like to know if someone can give any feedback on why it didn't work.

From what I gathered reading the Sea Salt cleanse is this: 2 teaspoons of Sea Salt in 1 quart/liter (32oz)of warm water. And you should have a bowel movement/diarrhea within 15 minutes - 2 hours.

That's exactly what I did. I heated up the water just till it got warm /hot then added the 2 teaspoons of CELTIC sea salt, mixed it and drank it down in like 10 minutes. Nothing happened for 2 hours except for a couple of tiny farts and some small stomach noises. But I should add that just about 2 hours after taking the drink I did have a slight bowel movement which I had to strain kind of to get out and it was small solid nuggets and not diarrhea/liquid form at all which I find odd. (sorry for being a little graphic there)

I read somewhere that if you don't have diarrhea after 2 hours, then you did not put enough salt in.

Tomorrow I will try 3 teaspoons in a quart of warm water and hopefully have a cleanse.

If anyone can possibly help me out here I would appreciate it."

[YEA]  03/28/2009: Anne from Carlsbad, California replies: "I did a Salt Water Flush also this morning. Works great. But, maybe you are really clogged up. I would wait a few days, then try again. Did the salt dissolve completely? Maybe try warmer water. Also, lie on your right side for about 15 minutes if you can. The water will empty into your intestine faster. You will know if you are empty! I do this about every other week, or if I have eaten something I shouldn't have, I do it the next morning if I have time. Good luck! "
[NAY]  03/22/2010: Anne from Redford, Mi replies: "I got up early this morning to drink a quart of hot/warm water, with 2 TB celtic sea salt. Last night I drank a detox tea to prepare. It didn't work, I know it doesn't work for everyone the first time but even if it had- I wouldn't do it again. It was so gross! I was just felt sick all day. I don't poop much- I eat mostly veggies (then protein and fruit), I'm gluten and corn intolerant, hypothyroid,... take my ACV, molasses, coconut oil, beet kvass... I just want to poop!?"
03/23/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "I used to have the same problem till a doctor gave me this piece of advice: eat kiwis first thing in the morning (maybe better start with just one...). It worked wonders. After a while any fruit worked, even bananas and my intestines became so regular that I didn't even need to do a thing anymore. Now I started to use coconut oil things have changed but they will go back to normal I hope!"
03/23/2010: P from Toronto, Ontario replies: "The sea salt flush is not meant to relieve constipation... it's an internal cleanse to be used sporadically and only at certain scenarios, for a brief period of time. If you are not pooping, you need to address that first (sorry, can't help you there).

I have used the flush during semi annual fasts for years now. There has been a few times where it didn't work, and yes, it makes you feel sick when that happens. In my experience it was because I was dehydrated to begin with, but everybody is different. Are you drinking enough water? That is, pure water only, not juices, sodas, etc."
[NAY]  10/19/2010: Margaret from Toronto, Canada replies: "I just tried the sea salt cleanse after my 2nd day of constipation. 3tsp salt, large glass of warm water followed by glass of water and relaxed in a warm bath, lying on side as I've read that elsewhere - still had trouble so did the old world thing and laid down paper and squatted, using the bathtub for leverage - they squatted for a reason! Whew, what relief!"

[YEA]  07/02/2008: Michelle from Roseville, CA writes: "I have tried so many remedies over the years for my constipation. Many have been rather costly. My nutritionist told me about a simple, cheap, and effective way to give yourself a good cleanse and help you to stay regular. First of all, the #1 cause of constipation is not drinking enough water. The #2 cause is not enough good salt in your diet. He told me to do this first thing in the morning before anything else: get a big glass of water, about 32 ounces. Add 1 tsp of good sea salt (Hawaiian pink salt is the best-- I use Premier) to the water. Drink it all down, probably within 15 minutes. (I think it is easier to drink a lot of water in the morning because your stomach is empty and it won't make you feel bloated) I tried this 2 days in a row and within a few hours I had a great cleanse. Not a hard one, but very easy and cleansing! I will continue to do this each and every day. Sometimes it's hard to drink water constantly throughout the day, although it is good for you, this is easy! And it doesn't taste gross! And the salt is good for you too for so many other things! I can't wait to see how this is going to effect my mood, my skin, my energy, etc! And to add, this may be harder, but it works better too if you try not to eat past 8pm. I have a horrible habit but I am working on that too. Think this will all make me sleep better and overall feel better!"

[YEA]  03/11/2008: Erynn from New Haven, Connecticut writes: "Sea Salt cure for Constipation. Works like a charm! Although I've tried this two ways. I've use epsom salt as well...but it is quite gross and you may throw up, so sea salt is much easier on the taste buds. It could take anywhere from 10mins to 2 hours. If its not working, try drinking more water...the salt is dehydrating your system!! This is probably the most comfortable way than taking a laxative. I tend to get cramping from everything else, ie sienna tea. sea salt is the way to go!"

I'm not very familiar with the remedies on this webpage, so I'm not trying to promote anything, but it is possible that IF you had to go to the ER, your constipation was already quiet serious. I've never heard of anyone ever do that before, so it's not really that strange that these natural remedies didn't work for you."

My daughter was in the hospital for 3 days w/an IV, on a liquid diet, given enemas and stool softeners."
03/11/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello Jeanne,

Sorry you are having trouble, but in case you do return to read EC again, the best way to handle constipation is with diet. Your body can't do it's work, unless you feed it what it needs to do it. When it comes to constipation think of 3 things, fiber, water and exercise. It needs all three. The first change to make in your diet is to start eating whole grain breads and cereals. Next increase fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, high fiber foods like celery, brocolli, etc. The body also needs plenty of good water to function normally also. I recall the patient who came in with a fecal impaction composed of popcorn husks. I'd lay odds that most of that popcorn was eaten while being a couch potato in front of the TV and he probably only drank 4 or 5 cups of coffee a day.

Some foods are better than others for prompting our intestines to work. Plums (or the dried version called prunes & prune juice), grapes and apples. Apple juice works great for me when needed. I love spinach salads but found they also delivered a laxative effect.

Asking your intestines to work normally on a junk food diet is like asking yourself to catch and hold onto a greased pig."
03/11/2009: MAG from Flat Rock, NC replies: "Joyce, regarding the constipation the person had no luck with the sea salt, remember that constipation seems to be on of the telltale symptoms that those with gluten sensitivity/celiac have. 03/12/2009: Linda from York County, Maine replies: "Jeanne from WPB, FL...gosh, you're really yelling....did you ever think that it probably took longer than a day to get into the condition you were in and that it just might take more than a day to get yourself better from the condition you were in?

What is it with people who need to bash the ideas on Earth Clinic? "Rude" is putting it mildly. I've said it before, I'll say it again: Take what you need and leave the rest. The remedies won't work for all of the people all of the time unless we're all the same, and thank goodness we aren't.....thank goodness for angry people like you, Jeanne, who help me realize that I'm in a pretty good space these days!!

I didn't measure properly and pretty sure I added too much salt - i felt the need and drank another liter of water soon after. Next time I will get the spoon out - and I WILL use this cleanse again. I can continue with the fast now with a clearer mind (and bowel). Hopefully I'll make it the full 10 days, feel good so far. DO stay close to the bathroom."

[YEA]  01/11/2007: Krystal from Memphis, TN writes: "I have been going through a healthy lifestyle change for sometimes now. I've eliminated some things from my diet and added healthier things. While on this transition I decided I wanted an, and tried to find a simpler more cost effective way to do it. I came across a website for a salt water flush. I add 2 teaspoons of un-iodized sea salt to 1 quart of warm water (you can add a little lemon juice to mask the taste) and immediately drank the whole quart. Not to much longer after I finished the quart of water, I was headed to the bathroom. It cleansed me out thoroughly. I don't want to get graphic, but it did the job so good, it was scary. So if you need a good cleanse try it. I would like to advise you that If you have high blood pressure and cannot use salt, talk with your doctor before doing it, but It worked GREAT!"

You were not meant to have a bowel movement while sitting down on a toilet. We were meant to have one while squatting. [YEA]  02/28/2011: Jennifer from Sunrise, Florida replies: "I've had terrible constipation since I was young... I would have a bowel movement maybe every 2 weeks. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago, which made the problem much worse. Typical remedies like laxatives, prunes, and fiber have absolutely no effect on me. Triphala has been a miracle for me. It's not a laxative, but it encourages regular bowel movements because it acts like a tonic for your colon and digestive system. It's extremely gentle but very powerful. I have a bowel movement almost every day, without any pain or discomfort. It completely regulates my digestive system and makes me feel great. As an added bonus, it has a ton of antioxidants, which is great for your body! I use a very good-quality brand, because some lower quality brands have little to no effect on me. Look for brands that have guaranteed potency."

Also for some reason some companies' Magnesium Citrate work better than others. The one that works better (Solgar's - we have no connection with the company) has also Microcrystalline Cellulose, Celulose, Dicalcium Phosphate, Silica, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Titanium Dioxide and Vegetable Glycerin among its ingredients.

The Potasium Magneseium Aspartate is not necessary.

Magnesium Malate is even more recommended than Magnesium Citrate. Maybe taking both is also a suggestion."

[YEA]  05/12/2010: Nat from Brooklyn, Ny, Usa writes: "Vegetable glycerin with gum powders, water and morning bread for intestinal motility and constipation

Previously, I had written about drinking five glasses of water in the morning, but it seems to be too much for many people, even when taken over a period of an hour or more. It also fills up the stomach so that it is often difficult to eat "morning bread" or "dawn bread" (a light breakfast in the earlier morning hours) which the Talmud recommends as important for healing many illnesses connected with the liver. (An example of morning bread given in the Talmud is bread, salt and a jug of water. It may be assumed that the water taken together or right after the bread should be sipped, for one should not drink large amounts of water together with or right after eating.)

Here are several alternatives to drinking five cups of water right in the morning:

A friend mentioned that he drinks one (or one and a half) glasses of water on arising. After getting dressed, he drinks another one to one and a half glasses of water followed by a large apple. This has been very helpful for his problem with long term constipation.

Another alternative is taking one Magnesium Citrate (200 mg) and one or two Potassium Magnesium Aspartate vegi-capsules together with one (or one and a half) glasses of water upon arising in the morning. (Potassium Magnesium Aspartate seems even more helpful that Magnesium Citrate. It is also supposed to help for the heart, blood pressure, chronic fatigue, weight loss etc.)

The Water, Magnesium Citrate, Potassium Magnesium Aspartate combination - can also be taken together with a pinch of baking soda and three or four pinches of Vitamin C Powder (Ascorbic Acid Powder)

(Three parts of Vitamin C powder to one part baking soda make Sodium Ascorbate which is recommended by Linus Pauling as the best way for taking larger amounts of Vitamin C.) The Vitamin C and baking soda create bubbles which keep the seeds afloat. (I think that you're supposed to wait till most of the bubbling stops in order to have Sodium Ascorbate.)

One can also take some kelp vegi-capsules and a B Complex vegi-capsules along with the Magnesium Citrate, the Potasium Magneseium Aspartate and Vitamin C water mixture. A spoonful of honey or molasses can also be added. (Taking a spoonful of honey when awaking in middle of the night and especially when awaking after dawn, even if one goes back to bed, is also helpful for intestinal motility and constipation relief). One can also add a tsp of sesame seeds, flax seed, and bran.

Here is an additional and very helpful thing. Having read about the eight sugars that heal, I had bought some Gum Arabic, some Karaya Gum (while looking for gum tragacanth) and Guar Gum as a source of some of these sugars. Both Gum Arabic and Karaya Gum do not dissolve in water properly.

Someone mentioned that glycerin is an emulsifier and so this information was followed with an experiment - mixing a tsp or a half teaspoon of vegetable glycerin or occasionally somewhat more (Glycerin is overly sweet and high in calories and a little goes a long way.) with about a half tsp each of Karaya Gum (Gum Tex), Gum Arabic, Guar Gum, and a bit of Vitamin C powder and stirring all this together. (Wilton Cake cake decorating supplies sells Karaya Gum as Gum Tex. Maybe other baking or confectionery suppliers sell these gums as well.) Then adding a glass of water while again stirring the mixture. A half tsp sesame seeds and a half teaspoon flax seeds may be added as well.

One should drink this mixture in the morning and maybe again in the afternoon. It significantly helps relieve constipation.

One can experiment by using some water or water combinations on some days of the week and others on other days of the week as well as eating every every morning a light early morning breakfast with a hot drink."

WATER

5 Glasses of plain water in the morning for constipation relief

Previously, I had mentioned 600 mg of Magnesium Citrate together with 1 - 2 tablespoons Erythritol (___ ___or other) or Xylitol in one or two glasses of water for constipation relief. (Both Erythritol and Xylitol are natural based sweeteners which can be found in a health food store. Erythritol may be the better choice for some. The Erythritol in water also helps relieve bladder retention.)

Recently I read about high dosage vitamin C in Ascorbate form for many illnesses and infections (better than Ester C). Since Sodium Ascorbate is the form of Vitamin C used in intravenous drips, I thought it might be a preferred form and wanted to try it. (It can be easily made by mixing two parts plain Vitamin C - Ascorbic Acid powder and one part baking soda. The store, however, only had Calcium Ascorbate powder.

Meanwhile a family member read in a Hebrew newspaper about 5 (not less) glasses of plain water on an empty stomach in the morning for relief of constipation.

Anyway, the day after taking Magnesium Citrate and Erythritol with water, and about 6-8 grams of Calcium Ascorbate, a family member also drank the 5 glasses of plain water in the morning.

Maybe it was the combination of all these things, or maybe 2 of the three things were the most important. Anyway, with help from Above, whatever it was, gave significant relief more than whatever was tried before."

Five glasses might be too much to drink every morning. If it is too much, one can try drinking it just a few times a week over a period of an hour or so. One can also drink immediately in the morning (if not every day then several times a week), within about forty minutes, around three glasses of water with magnesium citrate or magnesium oxide (two or three 200 ml tablets).

Bran, flax seeds and brown sesame seeds should also be added to the water - around a teaspoon to a tablespoon of each. (The bran, flax, and sesame seeds might be left to soak overnight in a little water and then added to the full glasses of water.)

A bit of salt or herbal salt mixture can also be added (example, Trocomare - a Swiss herb salt).

Also, one or two drops of ginger essential oil and some ginger powder can be added (one can also try spearmint or some other essential oil that helps digestion).

Also, a teaspoon or a tablespoon of dark molasses.

The water could be either cold or hot. Hot might be better but may not be as quickly accessible immediately in he morning.

One can also take some magnesium citrate/oxide and the fiber mixture the night before with a smaller amount of water and the rest in the morning with the three or more glasses of water mentioned before.

Hot watery drinks sipped after meals and taken throughout the day also help intestinal mobility.

A friend related that Weight Watchers recommended drinking a glass (one can drink two) of hot water followed by a glass of cold water, in the morning. He recommends this suggestion together with exercising with a weighted hoop for ten to twenty minutes after drinking the hot and cold water.

At "home-remedies-for-you" I read a contribution by someone named Nashira. He/she wrote that the following homemade flax crackers help for even extremely stubborn situations.

Take equal amount of flax seeds (uses golden flax seeds) and water and soak overnight. Then mix with crushed garlic, ginger, soy sauce (uses Nama Shoyu), and fresh lemon juice. Spread the mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and dry on low heat in the oven or dehydrator until crunchy.

Skipping food, "morning bread" or "dawn bread", in the morning slows down intestinal motility.

One should be careful not to omit "morning bread" or "dawn bread", that is, eating some light fiber food containing carbohydrate (natural starch or sugar) and protein shortly after one awakens and close to dawn or sunrise. The Talmud gives this advice and states that "morning/dawn bread" nourishes the liver and heals many illnesses."

Avoid eating till about 45 minutes after consuming water in the morning. I tried many therapies but this one has been most successful and is a long term solution. Whenever I feel blocked, I consume more than four glasses in the morning. Sometimes even two glasses or one are enough to flush out the system."

Water on an empty stomach causes the colon to spasm and move the contents, as I understand it. You're also rehydrating your body after sleeping all night. I usually have a successful bathroom visit in 30 minutes or less. I eat breakfast about 30 minutes to an hour later. To resolve a more severe case of constipation, I have had success by adding several other remedies listed here to the water remedy (e.g., sea salt cleanse, eating a cucumber, magnesium oxide)."
01/07/2012: Francisca from Zug, Switzerland replies: "If you drink a glass of warm water or tea first thing in the morning it also helps. For more severe cases add molasses! Fruit first thing in the morning also helps in most cases..... Or dried prunes during the day! Another suggestion is magnesium chloride diluted in water but it tastes awful and a while ago it ended by giving me constipation."

[YEA]  03/05/2009: Shelley from Mississauga, Canada writes: "re: Water and Carots first thing in the morning.

Hello, constipation is not fun and there are many natural cures that work. I wanted to add another natural remedy because it works and its so simple. 1) Water; the body needs water. Usually when people wake up, they have coffee or some type of diuretic [caffine], which is horrible if you have constipation. Drinking 1 glass of water as soon as you wake up is what our body yearns for. Drinking 1 glass of water (at room temperature)in the morning cured my constipation within 1 week. Of coure during the day, you should drink more water, but first thing in the morning is the crutial step. 2) Carrots; not only are carrots delicious, they save our eyesight, protect our hearts, combats cancer, promotes weight loss, AND PREVENTS CONSTIPATION. I do not have constipation anymore, I hope this can help someone else. God Bless."
