BREWERS YEAST, MAGNESIUM, ERYTHRITOL

1 YEA

[YEA]  09/10/2008: Nat from Brooklyn, NY writes: "Brewers yeast tablets and magnesium citrate, taken together with erythritol in water, is a combination that is helpful for stubborn problems with elimination.

On earthclinic there were many testimonials about using magnesium citrate for constipation. Although it is a good thing, many people might find that they need too much magnesium citrate. Taking the magnesium citrate with one half to one cup room temperature water (or hot water) that contains two or three or four teaspoons of erythritol can help one need less magnesium citrate. (Erythritol is a good tasting natural sugar substitute. The NOW Company and Organic Zero both sell erithritol.) Also, and even better, is taking the erythritol and water together with around four to ten Brewers Yeast tablets (Solgars sells Brewers Yeast tablets -- the tablets are much easier to take than the powder) twice a day in addition to the one or more magnesium citrate tablets. The brewers yeast might create some discomfort from gas in the beginning and so one might start off with less of the yeast tablets and increase their number slowly. Taking a sweet hot drink, with some spices in it, shortly after taking the yeast tablets, can often stop the intestinal discomfort. The combination of brewers yeast, magnesium citrate and erythritol in water, all taken at the same time, can often help even stubborn problems with elimination.

One should also eat a diet high in fiber containing foods such as fruits (grapes, papaya, also figs, raisins prunes stewed or soaked with olive oil or soaked overnight in plain water) vegetables (lettuce, escarole, hot sauerkraut, beets) whole grains, bran. One should also eat oily fish (recommended by Maimonides) and have a hot drink after meals.

Nat

P.S. In books on Yoga exercises, there are at times exercise recommendations that can help improve intestinal motility. Has anyone tried these exercises?"

COCONUT MILK AND GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/12/2006: Marcel from Diamond Bar, CA writes: "I half cooked a bunch of leafy vegetables with coconut milk. Coconut milk adds flavor to my cooking. I added some fresh herbs like basil, ground pepper, garlic, and onion. I did not add salt as I stopped using it salt since 1980. When done, I ate it alone the whole day. In one day, I tripped to the bathroom 3 times and really did a good job on emptying my guts. My bowels looked greenish, long formed and at about 1 1/2 inch in diameter. The bowel was greenish because the digestion was fast and did not have a chance to change color to brownish. I felt good and light all day long. The green leafy vegetables can be Kale, spinach, water lily (kangkong). I will try other green vegetables with the coconut milk and see its effect."

Then try adding more leafy green veggies such as salads and spinach(salad). Also cut back on certain fruit products such as apple juice and apple sauce. Then and more fiber to your diet. It works!"

ENEMA OR WHEATGRASS SMOOTHIE

1 YEA

[YEA]  02/01/2009: Jay from Altoona, FL-USA writes: "Constipation Relief: Go to a local pharmacy and purchase a twin pack of the Fleets Enema bottles. These bottles are reusable by screwing off the cap and filling the bottle 3/4 full of COOL tap water and filling the rest of the way with a high quality mineral oil or vegetable oil such as sesame or olive. You can then inject the oil and water into the rectum and in short order experience an easier bowel movement. An alternative is to blend about a cup of wheatgrass sprouts in a Vita-Mix Blender and make a green smoothie which you can drink and will almost surely relieve constipation. To research these recommendations Google:How to grow wheatgrass,Fleets Enemas, etc. Also read this monograph: http://www.rxmed.com/b.main/b2.pharmaceutical/b2.1.monographs/CPS- Monographs/CPS- (General Monographs- F)/FLEET ENEMA.html"

ERITHRYTOL

07/10/2008: Nat from Brooklyln, New York writes: "Erithrytol (a natural sugar substitute) for constipation:
Erithrytol (from both from Organic Zero company and Now company, one tablespoon can be taken from each type) , taken in coffee instead of sugar (it is less sweet so around one and a half to two tablespoons might be recommended) helps for constipation problems. If a person is taking magnesium citrate he will find that he needs less of the magnesium citrate.

In another entry I may have mentioned taking the magnesium citrate in the morning with warm water. I just learned that the great physician Maimonides* wrote that drinking lukewarm water is not healthy. He wrote this either in Galen's name or from his own studies. If one takes the magnesium in warm water, the water should be rather hot and not lukewarm. It might be better, in any case, for a person not to drink too much water in the morning, because if he gets filled up on water he may be unable to eat early enough. (It is not healthy to eat right after drinking water.) The Talmud writes that one should eat * "morning bread" for it helps the liver and thereby heals very many illnesses. This "morning bread" should be something light and not a full meal.

FLAX SEEDS, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, DATES

1 YEA

[YEA]  06/17/2009: Ali from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada writes: "I found the following mixture worked well for my constipation problem, hope it will help others. Bring two cups of water to a boil and add two tablespoons of flax seeds, continue to boil for fifteen minutes, then strain off the flax seeds and discard seeds ,allow mixture to cool somewhat, it will be jelly like, add one teaspoon of apple cider vineger and stir. Drink one cup of this on an empty stomach one to two times a day depending on severity of constipation. If very constipated, be sure to also drink three cups of hot water through out the day. I have found a more pleasent remedy for mild constipation or just to stay regular try the following: Boil one cup of water and add six dates, allow to soak, when cool, drink the liquid and eat the dates. Take at bedtime for best results. Good health to all and A HUGE THANK YOU TO EARTH CLINIC."

4 YEA

[YEA]  03/10/2010: Suzanne from Abbotsford, Bc writes: "When travelling, my daughter had problems with constipation, as many do. [YEA]  02/05/2010: Corinna from London, England writes: "I've had so much benefit from this website that it is now time to contribute myself. I was severely constipated as a teenager. I went to the toilet once or twice a week at the most. As an adult I changed my diet to include more fibre and the problem corrected itself. However, after the age of 40 it crept back despite being on a rigorous healthy diet. I tried many things but the thing that helps reliably is 2 tablespoons of golden flaxseed a day. I simply mix the flaxseed into my food at night."

02/05/2010: Guest from Somewhere, Fl replies: "IS THIS FLAXSEED "OIL" OR JUST SEED?"

02/07/2010: Corinna from London, England replies: "The flaxseed has to be cracked as it otherwise will not work."

HONEY

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/15/2005: Gail from Powell, Wyoming writes: "I struggled with severe constipation for years, and it was getting worse. I tried many natural products and had always tried to stay away from harsh laxatives. I had a colonoscopy several months ago just to see if there was anything wrong. I did have 2 pre-cancerous polyps but no blockage. I had resorted to taking Golytely twice a day per my physician's recommendations, with poor results. (Golytely is used as a bowel prep!) My chiropractor said I should try honey, 2 teaspoons, three times a day. I thought, yeah, right! It works! (Do not give honey to babies, it can cause botulism in infants)."

HONEY WITH OLIVE OIL, ORANGES

1 YEA

[YEA]  12/01/2009: Cheryl from Bakersfield, California writes: "I just want to tell people that if they are severely constipated, that three or four tablespoons of honey can get your bowels moving, but they will move easier if you add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil or any good oil, such as sunflower or safflower oil to the honey as well. And something else that usually will do the trick is two or three oranges ate one after the other. I used the honey method on a relative who had not had a bowel movement in over a week. After the dosage his bowels moved that evening!"

HOT TEA

1 YEA

[YEA]  12/12/2006: Kegan from Illinois writes: "Have you ever stopped to think about chinese people how with every meal no matter what meal they have hot tea?? well the reason behind it is, when you eat food's that have fat or oils in them you usually drink COLD bevarages after right?? Well that causes the fats to sit and harden, causing many problems constipation, clogged arteries, many! So when you eat something, try to drink something hot along with it and see what happens.....bet you will poop right on time and won't be constipated."

[YEA]  07/19/2006: Colleen from Vancouver writes: "My six year old son was constipated, and instead of using over the counter medication/remedies I tried the lemon and olive oil. He only took it 2 times (mid morning & after lunch), and he had a regular bowel movement before the night. The sour from the lemon was a bit too much for him, so i put a pinch of salt in the mix, which was suggested in someone's feedback."
