09/09/2010: Tina from New York: "I'm usually completely regular. I'm on vacation in a different time zone - 8 hours difference. I haven't had a bowel movement in 5 days. It feels as though my body simply forgot about bowel movements. I don't feel bloated. It's not that I sit down and can't do the job. It's just not happening every morning as it usually does. Last night I took a Tbsp. of lemon with a tbsp. of olive oil. This morning I took a few tbsp. of lemon with a few of olive oil. Nada. Can anyone help me?"Replies
09/09/2010: Lisa from Lafayette, La replies: "Same exact thing happens to me. When I am on vacation, the bowel movements stay at home! I try different things. I will eat a little yogurt in the morning and a dry piece of toast. Sometimes that does the trick. Drink LOTS of water, don't skimp on that. Also, try taking magnesium powder mixed in a little tiny bit of orange juice, try about 1200 mg per day, divided up into two doses. It's a lot, but it does the trick for me. A little runny, but it's better than none at all. When I get home, all is well again!"
09/10/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "I have the same problem whenever I travel. I have several solutions: eat a couple of prunes (not too many), drink a glass of warm water or a cup of tea first thing in the morning, eat some fruit first thing (any fruit works for me), drink a glass of water with molasses and drink enough water! I hope this helps..."
05/21/2012: Beat Poet from Gig Harbor, Washington Usa replies: "To everyone. Ive tried almost all of these remedies. I had a shoulder operation about 5 years ago and it either affected my thyroid or my liver or both. I was doing well until then but have had a lot of trouble with constipation since and nothing works for long. I think I need a serious series of liver and gallbladder cleanses. like one man said in his book: eat all the fiber you want but if the gallbladder isnt functioning properly you will still have constipation."
Sea Salt and Apple Cider Vinegar
[YEA] 04/28/2008: saab from vancouver, canada: "Using sea salt/acv for constipation has worked better for me than following remedies: psyllium husk, extra fibre every night(wheat bran), water+b.soda+acv etc. I use 250 ml warm water, few sprinkles of sea salt (pinch)+1 tbsp organic ACV. This has also cleared up stubborn adult acne on the throat.I am just not sure of the long term use of salt every in the morning,if it would corrode the organs. Many heartfelt thanks, nevertheless for the site and its info."
Sea Salt Cleanse
[SIDE EFFECTS] 02/21/2014: Ricks from Delhi: "I went through feedback for taking sea salt and water for curing constipation. I started with 1/2 TBS of himalayan pink salt with 1 litre of water and for the next two days I took only 2 pinch of salt in one glass of water twice a day. While starting with this remedy, I started to feel some irritation in my intestine and today is the third day and I am suffering from loose motion.
Not sure how 2 pinch of pink salt can lead to loose motions. I would like to switch to organic sea salt. Since I started this remedy, I could feel lot of thirst. Looks like my body is dehydrated. Is their any way I can take salt and water solution everyday to cure my constipation?
02/21/2014: Mr. Ree from Usa replies: "Eat something like toast or a bagel to slow the sea salt from going straight through...Or take magnesium citrate liquid...It works fast for constipation and doesn't have a harsh reaction in the intestine.."
02/21/2014: Ricks from Delhi replies: "Currently, I am suffering like diarrhea right now. Since last 10 years, I have never faced diarrhea. Currently want to get rid of DIARRHEA and move towards normal bowel movement."
[YEA] 02/07/2014: Misty from Indiana, Usa: "To relieve constipation, I mix ~1 tsp salt water sole with 24 oz water (the solution should taste pretty salty) and drink the full glass (you don't have to drink it all at once, but try drinking the whole solution within an hour). Then, I eat something with plenty of fiber, such as oatmeal or a microwave flax muffin. This usually gets me going within an hour or two.
When this doesn't work, I then try coffee mixed with 1 tbsp coconut oil. If that doesn't work, I take a few magnesium oxide tablets. If all else fails, I do a sea salt cleanse first thing in the morning. If none of these remedies work for you, you are too constipated for home treatment and need to see a doctor.
To make salt water sole, take a glass container with a plastic lid (do not use a metal lid because the salt reacts with the metal! ). I use an empty glass water bottle, but a canning jar or whatever you have will work so long as the lid is not metal. Fill the container about 1/3 full with a good, natural salt. I use Himalayan pink salt, but Celtic sea salt or any other unrefined, non-iodized salt should work. Fill the container the rest of the way with purified water (not tap). Cap the container and shake it up to dissolve the salt. Excess salt should sink to the bottom - this is a good thing because it means the water is saturated with the salt. Let the solution stand for 8-24 hours. When consuming sole, do not stir; Just pour some out from the top.
I drink 1/2 to 1 tsp of salt water sole everyday when I get up in the morning to keep in good health. When you are running low on sole, just add more salt and water, always making sure that there is excess salt at the bottom."
[YEA] 05/29/2013: Denise from New Zealand: "AWESOME!!!!! I was barrelled over in pain due to being constipated.. I frantically looked online fir a quick remedy and tried 1 tablespoon of sea salt in half a glass of warm water from the tap and it worked 15 minutes after taking it.. (I wouldn't recommend taking that much but it worked for me) just totally AWESOME!!!!"Replies
05/30/2013: Kt from , The Usa replies: "Were you aware that a TBSP was three tsp, not two as the other post advises?"
[YEA] 06/30/2012: Tss from Oshawa, Ontario: "God bless the creator of earthclinic.com. I was unable to have an effective bowel movement for 8 days. I tried many different natural cures with no luck. At this point I couldnt stand up right, I was in so much pain Then I found the sea salt cleanse. I mixed two teaspoons of SEA salt with 4 cups of warm filtered water. The mixture took effect one hour and 45 mins later. My advice is to stick close to the toilet for awhile."Replies
[YEA] 09/25/2012: Vince from Toronto, Ontario replies: "This is effective and fast. Do it only at home! I think I used 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and warm water and another glass of water. An 1/8 of a teaspoon would have been a better choice. It felt like everything left the building."
[YEA] 05/01/2012: Joy from Dallas, Tx: "I have read some of the posted comments about the Salt Water regiment for constipation not working. It made me skeptical in thinking that it wouldnt work for me either. However, I tried it anyway, what did I have to lose. I used about 2qts of water and 3 tsp of celtic sea salt. I can guarantee you, within 45 mins, I was in the restroom for 1 hour. It was amazing! This stuff really works and I am relieved. It the cheapest and most healthiest regimen besided eating a high fiber diet. It is something that can be first thing in the morning to keep your system regulated, as read in the Master Cleanse book. Thank you Earth Clinic Community."
[YEA] 05/18/2011: Diamond from Salisbury, Ma.usa: "I am 66 years old and I have had severe problems moving my bowels, while I was too busy working etc. I never really thought much about it, but I started having dizzy spells and bad headaches, I went to the doctor and told him I have never moved my bowels; he said thats totally impossible(?)he then said where does it go? I felt he was the doc. so I also left the answers up to him as well.
During my journey here on mother earth, I used herbal remedies which were great but after so many years they too stopped working, then I found this wonderful site where I find everything here is very informative and 100% accurate.
I recently found I had a bacterial infection, my doctor chose to put me on antibiotics/ciproflaxin to be exact;my reaction to this med. Was that it felt like some one heavy was standing or sitting on my chest, I had this severe crushing feeling and my breathing got worse. I have since tried Ted's methods of sea salt and it has done many wonders for me, it has helped with brain fog, bowel movements, as well as the bacterial infection that continues to come back during damp, cold weather also when I eat ice cream.
I love the sea salt with water and a light touch of real lemon juice and it works great for me.
I use sea salt and blackstrap molasses for my dogs as they too are constipated, and one dog the vet says has signs of cancer. No sooner did I give the dogs the sea salt they both went out side, with great results. Thank you so much Ted for making this site possible for us to share.
I am hoping my body heals with all the lack of concern I had in the past and the lack of treatments I got. I am feeling 100% better already. Much love and safety on your journey as well. Namaste.......... God bless"Replies
04/25/2012: Mauricio from Glendale, California replies: "Where do I get this sea salt? is it the regular sea salt at any market or is there a specific one?"
05/30/2013: Kt from The Usa replies: "Mauricio--Sory, my previous post was an error due to a PC malfunction. I see no one answered you over a year ago. Sea salt is sold at health food stores. Some grocery stores may carry it now due to the popularity. Hope you have gotten some relief by now."
[NAY] 03/28/2009: David from NY, NY: "I tried the Sea Salt cleanse this morning and it did nothing for me :( I've been reading and it seems to work for just about everyone who tries it. I would like to know if someone can give any feedback on why it didn't work.
From what I gathered reading the Sea Salt cleanse is this: 2 teaspoons of Sea Salt in 1 quart/liter (32oz)of warm water. And you should have a bowel movement/diarrhea within 15 minutes - 2 hours.
That's exactly what I did. I heated up the water just till it got warm /hot then added the 2 teaspoons of CELTIC sea salt, mixed it and drank it down in like 10 minutes. Nothing happened for 2 hours except for a couple of tiny farts and some small stomach noises. But I should add that just about 2 hours after taking the drink I did have a slight bowel movement which I had to strain kind of to get out and it was small solid nuggets and not diarrhea/liquid form at all which I find odd. (sorry for being a little graphic there)
I read somewhere that if you don't have diarrhea after 2 hours, then you did not put enough salt in.
Tomorrow I will try 3 teaspoons in a quart of warm water and hopefully have a cleanse.
If anyone can possibly help me out here I would appreciate it."
[YEA] 03/28/2009: Anne from Carlsbad, California replies: "I did a Salt Water Flush also this morning. Works great. But, maybe you are really clogged up. I would wait a few days, then try again. Did the salt dissolve completely? Maybe try warmer water. Also, lie on your right side for about 15 minutes if you can. The water will empty into your intestine faster. You will know if you are empty! I do this about every other week, or if I have eaten something I shouldn't have, I do it the next morning if I have time. Good luck!"
[NAY] 03/22/2010: Anne from Redford, Mi replies: "I got up early this morning to drink a quart of hot/warm water, with 2 TB celtic sea salt. Last night I drank a detox tea to prepare. It didn't work, I know it doesn't work for everyone the first time but even if it had- I wouldn't do it again. It was so gross! I was just felt sick all day. I don't poop much- I eat mostly veggies (then protein and fruit), I'm gluten and corn intolerant, hypothyroid,... take my ACV, molasses, coconut oil, beet kvass... I just want to poop!?"
03/23/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "I used to have the same problem till a doctor gave me this piece of advice: eat kiwis first thing in the morning (maybe better start with just one...). It worked wonders. After a while any fruit worked, even bananas and my intestines became so regular that I didn't even need to do a thing anymore. Now I started to use coconut oil things have changed but they will go back to normal I hope!"
03/23/2010: P from Toronto, Ontario replies: "The sea salt flush is not meant to relieve constipation... it's an internal cleanse to be used sporadically and only at certain scenarios, for a brief period of time. If you are not pooping, you need to address that first (sorry, can't help you there).
I have used the flush during semi annual fasts for years now. There has been a few times where it didn't work, and yes, it makes you feel sick when that happens. In my experience it was because I was dehydrated to begin with, but everybody is different. Are you drinking enough water? That is, pure water only, not juices, sodas, etc."
[NAY] 10/19/2010: Margaret from Toronto, Canada replies: "I just tried the sea salt cleanse after my 2nd day of constipation. 3tsp salt, large glass of warm water followed by glass of water and relaxed in a warm bath, lying on side as I've read that elsewhere - still had trouble so did the old world thing and laid down paper and squatted, using the bathtub for leverage - they squatted for a reason! Whew, what relief!"
[YEA] 03/24/2009: Molly from Austin, Tx: "Sea Salt Cleanse for Constipation: a tablespoon of seasalt in 20liters (or a little less) of cold water works GREAT, I've noticed putting the salt in really cold water, makes it not taste so bad, but be warned, for some it can work REALLY well and REALLY quick, so Be Prepared..and don't try and go on a long walk or drive right after, if you know what I mean :)"
[YEA] 07/02/2008: Michelle from Roseville, CA: "I have tried so many remedies over the years for my constipation. Many have been rather costly. My nutritionist told me about a simple, cheap, and effective way to give yourself a good cleanse and help you to stay regular. First of all, the #1 cause of constipation is not drinking enough water. The #2 cause is not enough good salt in your diet. He told me to do this first thing in the morning before anything else: get a big glass of water, about 32 ounces. Add 1 tsp of good sea salt (Hawaiian pink salt is the best-- I use Premier) to the water. Drink it all down, probably within 15 minutes. (I think it is easier to drink a lot of water in the morning because your stomach is empty and it won't make you feel bloated) I tried this 2 days in a row and within a few hours I had a great cleanse. Not a hard one, but very easy and cleansing! I will continue to do this each and every day. Sometimes it's hard to drink water constantly throughout the day, although it is good for you, this is easy! And it doesn't taste gross! And the salt is good for you too for so many other things! I can't wait to see how this is going to effect my mood, my skin, my energy, etc! And to add, this may be harder, but it works better too if you try not to eat past 8pm. I have a horrible habit but I am working on that too. Think this will all make me sleep better and overall feel better!"
[YEA] 03/11/2008: Erynn from New Haven, Connecticut: "Sea Salt cure for Constipation. Works like a charm! Although I've tried this two ways. I've use epsom salt as well...but it is quite gross and you may throw up, so sea salt is much easier on the taste buds. It could take anywhere from 10mins to 2 hours. If its not working, try drinking more water...the salt is dehydrating your system!! This is probably the most comfortable way than taking a laxative. I tend to get cramping from everything else, ie sienna tea. sea salt is the way to go!"
[NAY] 01/18/2008: JEANNE from WPB , FLA: "I have been reading your website for over 8 mths now . and have tried several of the remedies. . acv, h202 inhaling ,boraxo, last week i looked up 'constipation' . and it suggested drinking sea salt in a quart of water .. well, disgusting as it was , i did it . and nothing happened. i was so blocked by the next a.m. that i had to spend the entire morning in the local e.r. and they had to manually dig it out of me .. none of your supposed 'cures' have helped me . i am deleting your website from my bookmarks. . i think it's just a bunch of letters that you yourselves write so people will think that these things actually work . i don't believe a word of it . .good bye"Replies
09/18/2008: Nina from Oslo, Norway replies: "Dear Jeanne, sorry to hear about the trip to the ER. I'm not very familiar with the remedies on this webpage, so I'm not trying to promote anything, but it is possible that IF you had to go to the ER, your constipation was already quiet serious. I've never heard of anyone ever do that before, so it's not really that strange that these natural remedies didn't work for you."
03/10/2009: Veronica from San Antonio, Texas replies: "My daughter has been in the hospital for intestinal impaction (she has a genetic disorder that predisposes her to it) so I have some experience with this. If you had to go to the hospital for impaction then you were way beyond natural remedies or over the counter medicines. My daughter was in the hospital for 3 days w/an IV, on a liquid diet, given enemas and stool softeners."
03/11/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello Jeanne, Sorry you are having trouble, but in case you do return to read EC again, the best way to handle constipation is with diet. Your body can't do it's work, unless you feed it what it needs to do it. When it comes to constipation think of 3 things, fiber, water and exercise. It needs all three. The first change to make in your diet is to start eating whole grain breads and cereals. Next increase fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, high fiber foods like celery, brocolli, etc. The body also needs plenty of good water to function normally also. I recall the patient who came in with a fecal impaction composed of popcorn husks. I'd lay odds that most of that popcorn was eaten while being a couch potato in front of the TV and he probably only drank 4 or 5 cups of coffee a day.
Some foods are better than others for prompting our intestines to work. Plums (or the dried version called prunes & prune juice), grapes and apples. Apple juice works great for me when needed. I love spinach salads but found they also delivered a laxative effect.
Asking your intestines to work normally on a junk food diet is like asking yourself to catch and hold onto a greased pig."
03/11/2009: MAG from Flat Rock, NC replies: "Joyce, regarding the constipation the person had no luck with the sea salt, remember that constipation seems to be on of the telltale symptoms that those with gluten sensitivity/celiac have. I had a LOT of "aha moments" when reading the associated disorders with celiac on celiac.com. MAG"
03/11/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "hahaha! all remedies will not work for all people.
like the other poster said - doing one remedy once will not make up for a life time of bad habits."
03/12/2009: Courtney from Atlanta, Georgia replies: "how rude, if you did your research, you would have known that not every single person will benefit from these treatments and such. this site is amazing and has helped soo many people."
03/12/2009: Linda from York County, Maine replies: "Jeanne from WPB, FL...gosh, you're really yelling....did you ever think that it probably took longer than a day to get into the condition you were in and that it just might take more than a day to get yourself better from the condition you were in?
What is it with people who need to bash the ideas on Earth Clinic? "Rude" is putting it mildly. I've said it before, I'll say it again: Take what you need and leave the rest. The remedies won't work for all of the people all of the time unless we're all the same, and thank goodness we aren't.....thank goodness for angry people like you, Jeanne, who help me realize that I'm in a pretty good space these days!!
(Of course, Jeanne won't be reading any replies because this site is no longer bookmarked on her computer.... bummer for Her)"
03/13/2009: Tricia from New York, New York replies: "Had you tried the sea salt cleanse you would have been evacuating non stop for two hours. please keep your lies to yourself. your post attenuates big pharma. thank you for deleting this website. ec is the best free complimentary website on the net. the number of people using the remedies are staggering. spreading the word for natural remedies is actually cutting into the profits of big pharma and the a.m.a. educating instead of medicating."
04/18/2009: Shay from Gary, Indiana replies: "Sorry for your trip to the ER but it seems like you r blaming this site-your problem sounds like it was beyond regular repair-your negative comments will not stop others from reading this site, your loss!"
[YEA] 09/19/2007: Wayne from Longmont, Colorado: "Resounding YA, Finishing my 4th day of a water fast and became a little worried not having a single BM since the fast began. Cruising the web and came across Sea Salt as a laxative and descided to give it a try. I can tell you it worked for me ! It took about an hour as predicted - awesome! I didn't measure properly and pretty sure I added too much salt - i felt the need and drank another liter of water soon after. Next time I will get the spoon out - and I WILL use this cleanse again. I can continue with the fast now with a clearer mind (and bowel). Hopefully I'll make it the full 10 days, feel good so far. DO stay close to the bathroom."
[NAY] 08/30/2007: Angel from Sinking spring, pa: "Hi, I have been suffering from constipation even though I drink over 8 glasses of water and take fiber. I decided to try the sea salt flush I read about. It says 2 teaspoons of sea salt and 1 quart warm water and no sooner then you drink it you will be going. Well nothing happened. I just felt even more bloated. Any cures that work fast? I would like to do a cleanse that works fast. Thank you"
