Constipation Remedies
Constipation is a common digestive system problem in which one experiences infrequent bowel movements, hard stools, or straining during bowel movements. Because frequency of bowel movements vary from person to person, what may be normal for one person may constitute constipation for another. The general rule of thumb is that if you are passing hard and dry stools less than three times a week, you probably have constipation. Almost everyone experiences constipation at one point or another during their lives. A poor diet is typically the cause of constipation. Most of the time constipation is temporary!

[YEA] 12/06/2006: Lydia from Miami, FL writes: "I have been constipated for the past thirteen years due to meds and my years of suffering from anorexia and especially bulimia. I only eat healthy food and I HAVE tried everthing and wasted a lot of money to help my situation between doctors' visits, medicines and supplements. Lately the thing that is proving to be helpful is acidophilus (in the millions), All brand fiber cereal (I find it delicious) and magnesium (750mg/day) I have accepted mine as a hopeless case; however, this may help somebody out there!"
06/28/2009: Mia from Crossville, Tennessee replies: "i have been suffering from chronic constipation for as long as i can remember. i have taken every kind of laxative and stool softener out on the market. i have used emema's and suppositories just to help it along. i have been doing this for years until i came across this web site. so i went to my local ___store and got some magnesium oxide in 400mg tablets. i took 1 of a morning on a empty stomach with a large glass of water and 1 of a evening before going to bed. the next day i had a very small bowl movement so i up the dosage to 2 tablets of a morning and 2 of an evening and have had a bowl movement every morning. i have been taking it for 2 weeks now and haven't felt this great in a long time. that weighted down feeling is gone and i have more energy."
06/28/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "The more popular types of magnesium for constipation is the liquid magnesium citrate or another liquid called Milk of Magnesium.
But dietary changes to include more fiber and water is the best way to rid oneself of constipation problems and this is done by switching to whole grain breads and cereals and eating lots of those good old healthy leafy green vegetables."
08/16/2009: Nooree from Miami, Florida replies: "Hi Lydia!I have been on essential oils for a month now, one in the morning and one at night when I go to sleep. I drink two glases of water early in the morning after brushing my teeth. And take a cup of tea. In between I take 1 tablespoon of coconut oil for my hyperthyroid and as soon as I finish my cup of tea I will have an urge to go. No more constipation or even diarrhea. It will take a month or two to adjust and the fish oil should have all 3 Omegas in it ( Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9 from essential oils) The one I bought has salmon oil. flax seed oil and canola oil in it. It is not only fish oil. In winter I will change it to codliver oil. I am also suger free, dairy free, and white bread free for three and a half months so may be suger is a culprit for stomach problems for me. Since I quit suger I have no more Migrains, My eyes are better ( no more burning) My skin is alot better ( brown marks on my arms are fading away), I do not have dry skin and my nails got smmother. I am sure there are alot more good things happened internally. I am blessed since I came in Contact with Earth Clinic.
I am also getting rid of my candida which was a problem for ten years ( I didn't know) Now that I am getting the "DIE OFF SYMPTOMS" I realize I had it. The coconut oil is taking care of that with rotating dose of Oregano oil, garlic and borax (2 to 3 days each then I change.) I am trying to find Iodine but I couldn't find it here in Miami. Now I will order it online because I see alot of sites that have it. Then I will take a drop of Lugal's Iodine in my water every day. That will kill the bacteria or fungus if I have any at the time but it will help with my Fatigue and thyroid problems. I hope this helps."

[YEA] 11/27/2008: Susan from Atlanta, Georgia, USA writes: "For constipation, I use an acupressure point in the arm. The point is found when you bend the arm - for example, place your right hand on your left shoulder. At the bend of the elbow, use your left hand to locate the acupressure point about halfway between the crease of the bend and the bone. Massage that point for about 15 seconds, then switch to the other arm. Back and forth. I also do this while standing. Usually works within 10 to 15 minutes at most. Also, I have cut out wheat and all gluten grains. I did not think I had a gluten problem but found out that I have that sensitivity."

11/03/2009: Boomer from Edmonton, Ab replies: "Make sure if you rub your stomache that you do it in a clockwise motion. Rubbing counter clockwise can result in increased constipation and can cause problems with your intestines."

[YEA] 05/16/2007: Wanda from East Bay, CA writes: "Have had some digestive challenges lately. Last night, used ACV in water just prior to a bowl of oatmeal. About an hour later, I swallowed a garlic capsule. This morning after swishing peanut oil for about 20 minutes, I drank the juice of one lemon mixed with about a TBSP of baking powder and water. My nose began to run. After a breakfast of French Toast, bacon, and strong coffee, there was an almost immediate cleansing. I'm not sure which concoction did the job, or if it was the harmonious work of them all. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and kudos for the good advice. I feel blessed."

And belived or not i have bowel movements every single day, and its just 2 tablespoon a day and drink lots of water itself the whole day, i feel great more than ever, i highly recommend that to any body that suffer bowel movements, plz go buy yourself a good ACV unfiltered u will see diference in you."

[YEA] 01/01/2009: Carol from Washington, DC, USA writes: "I have suffered from ulcerative colitis and constipation for years. My medications (for other health problems) seemed to be making the constipation worse. I eat lots of fiber, drink plenty of water & exercise regularly, but the constipation did not go away. I found this site & decided to try ACV. I took 2 teaspoons last night with water and then 2 tsp. this morning followed by water & it worked perfectly! I was amazed that I achieved these results so quickly. I actually had a normal bowel movement. I feel great! I will definitely keep taking ACV. Thanks!"
04/22/2009: Daniel from Blackwood, NJ replies: "I have a theory on why Apple cider vinegar seems to help with constipation and IBS for some people and not for others. I'm actually surprised this ailment isn't on the site, its call SIBO Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth and its been linked to many (but not all) cases of IBS. Since the vinegar is antibacterial when one takes this it tends to lower the bacterial load of the small intestines allowing someone with IBS or SIBO to find relief because the overgrowth of the bacteria is stopped, much like a prescription of antibiotics that does the same thing without the fairly large price tag. I think the problem a lot of people are running into is when they take too much of it and it kills too many of the bacteria that help you digest your food. There is, Personally when I take a shot of the stuff after a few days it causes me constipation because its not diluted enough and it most likely gets dumped into my intestines as soon as I drink it due to the irritation of the pyloric valve much like a shot of vodka or equally irritating substance. But when I take only a teaspoon or two in 12 or more oz of water my bowel movements are great. So if any of you are having a problem with constipation please give ACV another chance just use much less (a tsp or two at most )and dilute it in water or your liquid of choice you will probably have a much better time with it. Also if your worried about the enamel on your teeth please use a straw."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/22/2009: Mrs P. from Kuching, Malaysia replies: "I am taking diluted ACV 1 teaspoon in 8oz upon rising from bed in the AM and have another one before dinner. I have been taking this for 1 week. I only get little BM daily. I wonder if there is anything I can do to increase the effectiveness. I am so envy reading other's pleasant experiences with ACV. I really hope ACV is the final solution to my serious constipation since it has a lot of other health benefits. Any suggestion? I am thinking of taking a larger dosage."
[YEA] 05/28/2009: Eddi from Houston, Texas USA replies: "Hi everyone,
ACV does work and it has helped me in various situations. I mix one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in honey and I take one or two teaspoonfuls before or after meal once or twice a day. It clears my sore throat, soothes my tummy aches, made me lose weight, opened my sinuses during cold. Please do not overtake acv. Be moderate. I've been constipated and I've had two difficult b-movements ending in harsh stool and slight bleeding due to stretching of tissue. When I eat pumpkin pitas, I go next morning and stool is softened. Pumpkin is good, but not too much bread. Pumpkin pitas are found at Spanish and Mexican bakeries. It's a great snack and heals prostate problems, bladder, low in calories, high in betas, rich in potassium. It's no wonder, I always feel good after I eat pumpkin pitas. God bless and take care.:)"
10/23/2009: Starfish from Crystal, Usa replies: "I was diagnosed with SIBO about a year ago. Years of being ill and not knowing why ends up is due to this overgrowth. I have tried everything from way too many harsh antibiotics to the ACV. I now stick with enzymes and probiotics but still have bad days. I was told I would probably have this the rest of my life. I am willing to try ACV again. How much should I be taking everyday. Should I take with or without water?? any suggestions"
EC: For those who may not know, SIBO is the acronym for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth.

[YEA] 07/26/2008: Bridget from Philadelphia, Pa writes: "I'm not even sure where to start. Today is my 6th day taking ACV (Braggs organic). I'm taking 2 tsp along with 1 tsp pure natural honey mixed in apx 2 ounces of water, 3x a day ( before each meal.) Apx 2 years ago I developed a white mole directly under my eye, hated it and always planned on finding out about getting it removed. On day 4 of taking the ACV, I had gotten out of the pool and was rubbing my eye and noticed I couldn't feel the mole. I went to the mirror to look and could barely see it. Today is day 6 and it's almost gone! I have another dark mole on my arm that is also changing!
Another HUGE change this week are my bowel movements. I am hypothyroid, and normally when I'm eating healthy items such as alot of fruits and veggies, I tend to have a hard time producing a movement, but this week I have been producing at least once, sometimes twice a day, and they are very large healthy movements. I have also lost 4+ lbs which of course I also attribute to eatting better and drinking alot of water. I tend to go on these health kicks alot, for long periods of time, but this is my first time trying the ACV and I have been telling everyone about my dissapearing mole and my movements for 2 days now. I cant wait to wake up each day and see what else is going to change! Loving it, and I will keep yous updated! Thanks, Mom in Phila"

[YEA] 09/04/2007: Jessica from Lady\'s Island, SC writes: "I have been suffering from cystic breakouts and chronic constipation most of my adult life. These issues seem to only have intensified with age. Mind you, I eat an organic, almost-vegetarian diet and am always sure to get my minimum fiber intake. Before ACV, I was lucky if I had a bowel movement every other day and always felt "backed up" and suffered from terrible gas! My face would suddenly erupt in cystic acne lesions that took weeks to heal. After spending literally thousands of dollars on products in an attempt to rid myself of both conditions, I am now able to throw out more than half of the things in my medicine cabinet. I take 2 tbs. ACV morning and night, straight-- I don't even mind the taste. I also apply it topically to my face every morn-- seems to brighten my complexion and tone my pores. If you have sensitive skin, you might want to consider dilluting it, as it is pretty strong. My skin has never been better and I am completely "regular" now-I only wish I had tried this sooner and imagine the years of suffering I could have saved myself. If something ails you, try it-- it certainly can't hurt!"

Belching....my husband says I do this all night long. I could not sleep flat any longer for I would just throw up in the middle of the night. Not to mention I have not had much sleep for I could NOT eat 4-5 hrs before going to bed! I had trouble swallowing, and have a constant cough, that I have been told could be cancer of the esophagus? When I heard that... I started taking the acv, that very night I slept "normal" and the next morning I had a good bm (which is another problem) Within a few days all my symptoms were gone and it has cured several other ailments as well not to mention loosing weight! I hate the stuff (taste) but you can't ignore the miracle it is. I just think more people should be talking about this simple remedy for sooo many things, what else could it do? [YEA] 03/23/2008: Maureen from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada writes: "An 89 year old family member was suffering from constipation and felt miserable. He did not own a juicer so I decided to try something. I bought a jar of unsweetened applesauce and the same size can of pear halves in water. I blended the pear halves with a tiny bit of water and mixed them with the applesauce. We both had a small bowl of the very tasty apple pear sauce. The next morning I had a very good bowl movement as I usually do but there was a difference. I phoned the family member and asked if he had relief. He did not. He said he had a pain in his stomach and felt awful. Later on around noon he got the sudden urge to go to the bathroom and emptied out completely. He did not quite make it to the bathroom which caused a problem but he felt like a million dollars as he said after he emptied out. Because of how it affected him, we waited one week then we agreed for him to take two tablespoons a day to keep him regular.
Another family member decided to try the apple pear sauce because she was having side effects of constipation from medication she started taking. It took 2-3 days for it to work for her but it did a great job when it kicked in.
Do on delay when you get the urge to go to the bathroom or even an inkling to "go" :)"

In the early evening (taken early in the day, you'll feel painful cramps) I eat 1 apple. By morning I have a very good BM. The 2nd night I have one more apple and usually the problem is gone.
IF this doesn't work at all over the first night; the 2nd evening I eat 2 apples.... for me its guaranteed it does work in the morning. Repeat the 2nd night too.
Apples are Fabulous for many reasons."

No other medication or Vitamins within 2 hrs. before or after, since they won't be absorbed with the shake. BREWERS YEAST, MAGNESIUM, ERYTHRITOL
[YEA] 09/10/2008: Nat from Brooklyn, NY writes: "Brewers yeast tablets and magnesium citrate, taken together with erythritol in water, is a combination that is helpful for stubborn problems with elimination.
On earthclinic there were many testimonials about using magnesium citrate for constipation. Although it is a good thing, many people might find that they need too much magnesium citrate. Taking the magnesium citrate with one half to one cup room temperature water (or hot water) that contains two or three or four teaspoons of erythritol can help one need less magnesium citrate. (Erythritol is a good tasting natural sugar substitute. The NOW Company and Organic Zero both sell erithritol.) Also, and even better, is taking the erythritol and water together with around four to ten Brewers Yeast tablets (Solgars sells Brewers Yeast tablets -- the tablets are much easier to take than the powder) twice a day in addition to the one or more magnesium citrate tablets. The brewers yeast might create some discomfort from gas in the beginning and so one might start off with less of the yeast tablets and increase their number slowly. Taking a sweet hot drink, with some spices in it, shortly after taking the yeast tablets, can often stop the intestinal discomfort. The combination of brewers yeast, magnesium citrate and erythritol in water, all taken at the same time, can often help even stubborn problems with elimination.
One should also eat a diet high in fiber containing foods such as fruits (grapes, papaya, also figs, raisins prunes stewed or soaked with olive oil or soaked overnight in plain water) vegetables (lettuce, escarole, hot sauerkraut, beets) whole grains, bran. One should also eat oily fish (recommended by Maimonides) and have a hot drink after meals.
Nat
P.S. In books on Yoga exercises, there are at times exercise recommendations that can help improve intestinal motility. Has anyone tried these exercises?"
