Alkalizing with Herbs

Hi everyone...I was taking Ted's Lime or Lemon or ACV and baking soda alkalizing formulas plus my own decoction of herbs -- Tinospora cordifolia (Ind. Gudduchi), Phyllanthus niruri(The Stonebreaker) and Tumeric -- for my intestinal Candida two years ago. This regimen was completely successful.

A by-product of this daily protocol was that I eliminated all my gall- and liver-stones. I had very hard stools(constipated) which become soft and regular again. I know these stones were being expelled because it felt like hundreds of small peas were being expelled whenever I went to the toilet. This continued over a period of 6 months until they were all gone. I also simultaneously lost weight and got rid of my belly!!

I cannot say for sure whether it was Ted's alkalizing formula or whether it was my herbal formula which caused the expulsion of my gall-stones. But this was much easier than drinking Olive oil with epsom salts everyday!! And I am very glad it happened!!

Hi Johann...I alkalized 2 times a day with mainly lemon/lime and used between a half and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda. If I was low on energy I would take ACV Baking Soda. Usually I would have a rest from the alkalizing, taking it for 5 or 6 days then take a couple of days off.

My external symptoms were very bad nail fungus(feet), athletes foot, eczma and psoriasis. Inside my body I was perpetually constipated, going to toilet once every 4 days if I was lucky. Low energy. I was also constantly feeling bloated, my diet was also not good.

I have little doubt that I had Candida and feel so much better now, with much increased energy. All these symptoms have now disappeared and I have regular daily toilet now. I put all this down to Ted's simple alkalizing regimen that I followed for just over a year. I still take this remedy now though not every day, only when I'm not feeling so good or after I've eaten something I shouldn't !!

Hi Moi...If you have sodium issues, then use either 1/8 tsn Baking Soda plus 1/16 tspn potassium bicarbonate plus 1/4 tspn citric acid powder.

You can also use the lemon/lime remedy with baking soda, which also normalizes many more parameters and, according to Ted, is the best and easiest one to use.

I've never ever had any problems taking these remedies myself, and I've been taking them for 3-4 years now. As to whether you should take these formulas, that's really up to you. If you have renal or kidney issues, then seek advice from your doctor.

As far as I'm concerned, baking soda is body friendly and is a natural body chemical, because bicarbonates are used widely both in digestion and in essential respiration processes within the human body. Sodium is also a major body electrolyte, which you body needs.

Sodium bicarbonate(baking soda) on its own, before the 1930s, was regularly prescribed in solution by doctors for colds and flu, and was used as a toothpaste. Today, Sodium bicarbonate is used by the medical profession as an IV buffer or flush during cancer chemotherapy as well as for women in labour.

Sodium bicarbonate, according to the MSDS standard, in terms of toxicity, is technically less poisonous to your body than ordinary table salt.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Bill for your responses! Odd for me to read this today because I have been doing some of the alkalyzing formulas and have recently started to have swelling in my gallbladder/liver area. I started to have a lot of belching and lost my appetite, I thought it was a die-off reaction but my hand and feet turned yellow. I thought that perhaps there were gallstones blockign a duct or something, so I did a few liver flushes and started doing enemas more regularly. With the gallbladder flush I passed some stones, and passed a few more the next day.

I upped some of the herbs then felt better after adding sea salt to my alkalyzing drink. I noticed the edema was better after adding the sea salt! The funny thing is, or not so funny, is that I have suffered from extreme insomnia and when I added the sea salt, I have started to sleep better. Yesterday sleeping for six hours, HUGE FOR ME! I'm not wondering if the electrolyte balance has been the cause of all of my problems, including candida and seizures, specifically since my sodium levels are so low and potassium and magnesium levels were high on the hair analysis.

I had stopped doing the magnesium baths for a while because my feet was swelling afterwards, although I like using the sea salt, I'm not sure I should continue that and will instead try upping my sea vegetables/kelp to see if that does the trick!

I also noticed that when I use bentonite clay, the yellow hands and feet are better, but they are also better when using the sea salt!

Thanks!

I have pasted a post from Bill of the Philippines below. He talks about using bicarbonate and citrates to neutralize acids and thereby help the kidneys, and whole body. I know that my body has been overly acidic for a long time. When he talks about bicarbonate I think he's referring to baking soda, I Don't know what he means by citrates. I've read his post over and over and looked up citrates on the internet and haven't found much at all. He talks about takiing citrates, but warns Against citrus fruits! Does he mean taking certain minerals? Fortunately, I am able to take bicarb in water. But I am one of those people who cannot take ACV, or citrus fruits, or citrus fruits with bicarb in water. With the Citrus and bicarb the body gets too alkaline, quickly... then the urethera burns.

I'm working on getting off of that blasted omeprazole. Finally found out that when you try to stop omeprazole and replace it with something else you get an acid Surge. I got the surge mostly calmed down, and I'm now taking sodium alginate (forms a raft to protect the esophageal sphincter, I think) I'm supplementing with this with Tums, as well as marshmallow root, DGL, raw okra juice, and cooked okra. I started using calcium carbonate instead of tums in order to avoid the dies or other additives. But the body really does seem to become more alkaline with calcium carbonate than tums. Does that even make sense? and I run into the overly alkaline problem again. Any suggestions?
Thank you, Denise

Alkalize

Hi Everyone... One fact that seems to scream out from the research regarding kidney problems is that a major cause for this condition is because the body is already far to acid, resulting in dangerous erosion and damage to the kidneys themselves caused by the acidity in the blood. Ted from Bangkok has said this time and time again on EC.D

Kidney disease and high body acidity also means that the body will havegreat problems digesting acid foods like raw Apple Cider Vinegar(acetic acd, malic acid) and citrus fruits(citric acid) which are normally beneficial to people whose bodies are not so acidic and who have sufficient stores to neutralize the citric acid to citrates and acetic acid to acetates. Ingesting these raw acid foods -- when the body is already so acidic and body bicarbonate stores so lacking -- are not beneficial to the body because in people with already acidic bodies and in order for these ingested acids to be converted to useful alkaline salts, these acids must first be neutralized by our bicarbonate stores during digestion. Excess blood acidity caused by a bad acid diet and a resulting lack of bicarbonate stores is what damages and erodes the kidneys. So if you have kidney problems then this essentially means that your body's bicarbonate and citrate stores are heavily depleted and also means that you are eating way too many acid foods -- so you cannot efficiently neutralize these damaging acids in the blood or within the cells themselves.

Therefore the common sense approach would simply be just to take Ted's Alkalizing Remedies to increase bicarbonate stores(alkalize the blood) and citrates (to alkalize the intracellular environment) within the body. From the research, bicarbonates and citrates are particularly useful for the kidneys in this respect.

So for some people to advise, as I have already read on EC, taking acidic foods like raw ACV and citrus fruits when someone is suffering from kidney disease caused by a lack of bicarbonate alkali in an already acidic body would seem to be absolutely crazy and completely the wrong advice.

to Hugo and Cindi. This does look like a good remedy but it has two inactive ingredients that compromise it as a good alternative to Teds remedy - "magnesium stearate, mannitol" and if you google these you'll find they are not so good for you.

Hi Ted, Thanks for all your alkalizing advice. I have been using the lemon + baking soda formula for over 6 months now. I have a lot of energy. My skin looks great. The pH of my urine is 7,5 or higher consistantly. I take one lemon plus about 1 teaspoon of baking soda. I add one liter of water. this is what i do twice a day. Now here comes my question. Some people noticed my change in energy and also the way i look. They started doing the same, but they experience a rise in bloodpressure. My own bloodpressure doesn't rise above 125 / 83 even when i add extra baking soda. Could you explain why my bloodpressure stays the same while my friend's bloodpressure rises? Several others didn't report anything but positive from this remedy. My aunt and brothers told me their Acid reflux was gone in a few days. They also experience significant weight loss. Thanks alot!

Best regards,
Hans

Dear Hans,
The reason why some mates of yours reported increase in blood pressure form taking lemon/bicarb formula is because sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) will aggravate sodium excess in some people. To combate this simply sip ACV diluted in water (do not mix it with bicarb)to potassium load the body and cure the high blood pressure. you can see from the ACV page on this site the "Run down" of nutrients inside ACV.....take a close look at the potassium levels in it and compare with all the other nutient levels.

The pH of the formula is not the most important factor here, nor is taste. What is important is the resultant pH of the urine, not the solution. You need to obtain a urinary pH of 7. So by measuring your urine you will determine the exact dose. Scientists have agreed to the urinary pH as the ultimate measure of whether the target achieved, not what you drink. However, if a pH reading is used for a particular remedy, the ideal pH would be between 7.0 - 7.5.

Most scientist have also agreed that the pH outcome of whatever you eat should be judge as a basis of whether it's acid forming or alkaline forming. In general, most sour foods in the long run will cause acid urine, and most bitter foods (less popular) will cause urine to alkaline pH. Hence, our tongues prefer sour to bitter and it's one of the many reasons why we are suffering from acidosis. Sugar is acid forming too.

The lemon or lime remedy requires 2 tablespoon of juice plus 1/2 teaspoon, not 1/4 teaspoon. Teaspoon sizes may vary unless you are using a cook's set of measurement spoons. However I used a regular teaspoon where the size is larger than a quarter coin. One whole lime plus 1/2 teaspoon baking soda is 7.5 pH.

A newly purchased pH meter needs to be calibrated. A pH meter must be recalibrated with each use if that is used not often, with a buffer 7 solution. They tend to go off.

Apple cider vinegar plus baking soda (2 tablespoons of ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda) pH is exactly 7.0 after 2-3 minutes. It goes higher as you wait and settles down at about 7.3-7.5. Of course the solutions of pH may vary depending on the brand.

What you are missing on is most people take plain ACV for acid reflux, which is a worse option than taking baking soda added by some to neutralize pH. The remedy assumes you are using apple cider vinegar, not distilled vinegar."

EC: We asked Ted how long one should wait before testing the pH of the urine after drinking one of the formulas.

His response: "Wait a minimum of one hour or more before taking a urinary pH sampling. I prefer to measure pH BEFORE and then AFTER I take a remedy to see the differences.

After an hour, the urinary pH should remain more or less the same for the next 6 hours at least. But this very much depends on the dose. And of course this is assuming there's not strenuous physical activity.

A more complicated technique involves measuring saliva samples, which more or less reflects the status of intracellular fluids (the pH of the inside the cells), where the controlling pH is the potassium and magnesium. While the urinary reflects closer to extracellular fluids, which is the baking soda, or bicarbonates.

EC: Then we asked Ted how to calibrate a pH meter...

Ted replies, "Usually when I buy a new pH meter, they will give me a 7.0 buffer solution, which I use to adjust the pH meter to 7.0 using a screwdriver. So the pH meter has to be stuck into the buffer solution when I calibrate it. So at a specific room temperature, which is often at about 25 degree Celsius to be 7.0 pH at that going temperature.

In Thailand the weather is hotter, usually above 30 degree Celsius so I have to adjust it closer to 6.99 or 6.98 pH. The manufacturers will give you a small table and tell you how to adjust, one the finer points. However, in practice, 7.0 is the common figure I use a screwdriver to adjust the LCD of the pH meter to 7.0.

One interesting story concerns one Earthclinic visitor here in Bangkok who bought a pH meter which he corresponded in private, adjusted it once with the buffer 7.0 and then threw the entire contents away after he calibrated! He forgot that the buffer solution can be reused and that the meter must be recalibrated constantly. So I ended up buy him a large two liter bottle of 7.0 buffer solution - that was the smallest size I bought at a school supply store!

Usually the buffer solution can be reused several times, until of course the colors change and you know its time to throw away the buffer solution.

In an emergency, sometimes I can't get a buffer solution so I make a simple saturated solution of potassium chloride added to a water.

It will approximate itself to about 7, but this homemade one aren't exactly accurate, and I have to throw away the solution after I finished. I don't worry about throwing away here since potassium chloride here are quite cheap. They sell it by the kilogram and it is only a couple of dollars. A buffer solution will be more expensive, but sometimes the school supply store don't have it in stock.

When I was new to this pH meter thing, I had to recalibrate everytime until the device stabilizes, then thereafter I might adjust it once a month. However, different models will need ifferent maintenance.

Hopefully this clears up the calibration issue.

Ted, Many thanks for all your efforts in helping people alkalize - I particularly like and use your Lemon/Baking soda recipe. I moved from UK to the Phillippines to live last year in order to change my stress-ridden life and since moving, I haven't been ill once - no colds or flu or anything.

As well as taking your wonderful remedy and after much research on the web, I also make an alcoholic tincture for myself which consists of vodka and about 95% mangosteen peel, fruit and seed, plus about 10 cloves, cinnamon and a few crushed pomello seeds(same as grapefruit seed). I try and use all local grown ingredients and it is dirt cheap. I use this tincture both as a mouthwash and also to prevent parasites taking hold. I take 2 teaspoons of this tincture every 2 or 3 days with water. It seems to work a treat. Just some question for you. Can you use Andrews Liver Salts(contains powdered citric acid and sodium bicarbonate only) with water instead of your recipe? I only mention this because sometimes, when you're travelling, you can't get limes or lemons. Some people say you will get gallstones if you use Andrews Liver salts daily - Is this true ? Much thanks again, Bill

I tried the ACV and baking soda....I wasn't ready for ACV....it didn't work after 2 days, I felt worse....just going for the buffers now by using just baking soda for a couple weeks...my Ph is better and I'm feeling better just after 2 days....trying to eliminate the possible reasons for my acid by following your various protocols....where can I get Borax (is that 20 Mule Team Borax or a food grade?) no health food stores around here carry it....your site is fantastic, I feel like it's just a matter of time before I land on the right combination of ingredients , thanks Dan.

P.S. I read your site every day and gleen new info from it, really appreciate it....thanks again, Dan

boric acid is boric acid, whatever container it's in. The stuff you buy for laundry is not "food grade" but boric acid isn't really considered a food. If you're concerned you can purchase boric acid in a small tin for opthalmic washes at most drug stores, but the other will work as well and is much less expensive. Plus, you can use it for your laundry.

EC: Warning! Boric acid is actually more toxic than borax. Please read Ted's response to this subject here:

Sea salt and Himalayan salt is more ideal salt to take but regular salt still has health benefits. Just to reinterate what I have said before, there is a myth that says salt is unhealthy for people. This is untrue. This harkens back when they said salt causes heart disease. Studies say it doesn't.

Salt is something that can improve ones health. Of course blood pressure will go up because more solids are in the blood. That doesn't mean one should cut down. Cutting salt consumption just to bring down blood pressure is not really doing what's right for your health. Also blood pressure readings vary all over the place all day long.

Baking Soda
Posted by Prioris (Fl, Usa) on 03/02/2014

You have the right amount of water in your body when your urine color is a light yellow. dark yellow means you need more water. The amount of water you drink should be based on that. I wouldn't try to drink more water just to try to thin the salt. Salt is just like a health supplement that a healthy body needs.

I wouldn't get bent out of shape about your blood pressure just because a doctor told you. If the reason your concerned is due to possible heart health then look into those supplements I mentioned since they will go a greater way to protecting you than almost any doctor can. If you just want to bring down your blood pressure to avoid blood pressure medications then there is an easy solution to that. It's knowledge. Just don't take the blood pressure medications. Why ? They are a long term danger to your health and useless to addressing any root health problems. You can do the research yourself to verify this.

Focus on the health concern and not some arbitrary measurement of your blood pressure. Don't bring down your blood pressure just for the sake of bringing it down. Ask yourself why you really need to do that - not because the doctor told you.

Hi. Just felt compelled to write into the site and report on my ACV experience. I'm 42 and have suffered from a variety of ailments from the not too serious (acne) to the more serious (neurological). I started taking ACV "Ted's Way" with a bit of baking soda, 2TBS/serving, 2X a day (sorry, just can't do 3x a day due to my schedule). My skin is looking really wonderful, so much so that people have commented on how healthy and radiant I look! Since I was 9 I've had very oily skin, and now it seems ot have normalized, neither oily nor dry. I'm pretty thin to start with, so weight loss was not really an issue for me. But I've noticed that I've definitely thinned out a bit more around the middle, and I feel more "lithe" than I've felt in awhile. My boyfriend thinks I"m nuts, but I think he's nuts with his stinky lethicin and yeast. : ) I enjoy making my fizzy "science experiment", and I make sure to brush my teeth afterwards, just to be on the safe side. I take it after meals so it's wise to brush my teeth then, anyway.

[The following email has been excerpted from a emailed dialogue between one of readers and Ted. The full Q&A text can be found on Low Immunity cures page.] Thank you again Ted, I have good news to report. My brother, after only a few days on lemon-bicarbonate twice a day says that his phlebitis is practically gone (not only better). He has suffered with this leg's vein for three years and tried everything but after just 4-5 days of this remedy his pain is completely gone, he feels the vein "fresh" vs the "fire" he felt before. He cannot believe it... My mother who is 74 and has a lot of problems is feeling much better too. She didn't have any appetite, most of the times she wouldn't have dinner just because she didn't feel like eating (she also has memory loss, stomach problems, always exhausted, what seems a chronic cough etc.) after the same amount of days she says she is very hungry and that she can be active all day long. She is having three meals a day now!! Thank you so much for this really healing water!!! All the best, D"

12/10/2006: D wrote Ted again: "My father has been taking your lemon-bicarbonate formula for 20 days and also some (little) potassium bicarbonate and citric acid. You remember that the doctor told him he had prostate cancer, his PSA level were extremely high. He also has been taking for three months some pills that the doctor gave him and an injection every three months, a sort of hormone suppressant. Well he just tested and his PSA is normal. The doctor was surprised and told, I quote: "so it was not cancer but just an infection". What I understand from his word that their medicines are not supposed to do this, so I really think it was the lemon-bicarbonate plus potassium that worked, we hadn't even started the cesium yet! Thank you so much Ted, D.

I have heard that Alkalizing your body can kill some if not all cancer's. I have been drinking what my husband and I jokingly call "BS Water", 1 teaspoon Baking soda in a cup of filtered water every morning. My Doctor swears that because my body is now more alkaline instead of acidic that it is helping with my problem of producing Kidney stones. I do not have nearly the amount of pain I did before starting this regime. Can you recomend any other ways to Alkalize a persons body quickly?? Thanx so much!! pH Testing Methods
Posted by Rsw (Uniontown, Oh) on 03/07/2015

My daughter bought me an alkaline water stick for Christmas. It's a stainless steel tube with holes that you put into a glass of water and it supposedly changes the pH to alkaline and adds some minerals in a few minutes. I tested it with litmus paper and found the water measured acidic, so I callled the manufacturer. She said water has to be tested with a phenol red liquid that is found in aquarium stores. Hmmm. So I bought the aquarium water tester and it does in fact say the water is very alkaline. Does anyone know if this is legit? Are there two standards for drinking water and aquarium water or is there a reason that litmus paper would register so differently from the phenol red? Anyone here with a scientific background who understands this? Thank you!

Consistent level of body PH is maintained by adequate level of CO2 in a body, which regulated by breathing. According to Buteyko, we are over breathing. No supplements or diet will achieve what proper breathing will do. Role of CO2 in human body is misunderstood and ignored.

Listen on youtube about Buteyko breathing program. It is utilized in official medicine in the UK and Australia after Prince Charles was cured of allergy and an Australian person of angina while hospitalized in Russia. Buteyko cured himself of high BP and a cardiovascular disease.

Keep in mind one MUST work with a qualified practitioner who has his license renewed annually by Buteiko clinic in Moscow. Buteyko program is copyright protected. There are no legal approved material for sale.

Buteyko said, It is a simple program that hard to implement. Children as young as 3 yo learn it easily as well as people who at death bed. It requires 5 sessions 1.5hr each to learn to breath properly. There are Skype sessions conducted by Buteyko clinic USA, which is authorized by the Moscow clinic.

Hi,

I am worried I took too much baking soda/lemon juice yesterday. The instructions are a bit confusing on the page I did as #4 states, but obviously completely misunderstood how to do it. I put 3 T of lemon juice in glass then added baking soda slowly and kept adding it and the foam never stopped til almost 1/4C had been added to the 3T of lemon juice. Then filled the glass half-way with water. It was VERY salty. I drank almost half of that mixture before I decided this just can't be right.

My stomach is VERY VERY bloated. No pain, just bloating. I am very thirsty also. I am not sure how to counteract this? Would charcoal capsules help here? Wobenzym N? I have many things on hand, just not sure what to do to try to undo what I've done.

I can't believe I was so stupid. I should've went with my gut and only used 1/2t or so.....hope I can reverse this. Thanks for any advice or help!

Hi Healthminded....Taking too high a dose of lemon lime and baking soda should not give you any horrible side-effects except, perhaps, for loosened stools or maybe diarrhea. Taking an overdose should not do any harm unless you have a malfunctioning kidney or if you lack potassium in your diet (to help balance the sodium).

The proper dose to take is as follows:

* Add 2 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice to a glass half filled with water.

* Sprinkle in Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) until the fizzing stops.

* Drink it down.

There are also two other alkalizing drinks that I also regularly take now. Both are a modification of the above and have been shown on this site before:

* Add one or two tablespoons of lemon/lime to a half glass of water.

* Add one tablespoon ACV.

* Add 1000 mgs(1/4 tspn) ascorbic acid.

* Add 2 grms MSM

* Add 6 drops of lugol's iodine.

* Sprinkle in baking soda until the fizzing stops and drink it down.

You can also substitute sodium thiosulfate (6 drops) instead of the lugols iodine if you want a stronger heavy metal or chlorine detox. And never mix sodium thiosulfate with lugols iodine -- because each will neutralize the other's beneficial effects.

The second one is similar but uses humic acid. I take this one if I suspect a viral problem in my body:

* Add one tablespoon ACV to a half glass of water.

* Add the juice of one lime or lemon(2 tblspns)

* Add 3 granules of humic acid -- until the water in the glass is a golden brown(not black!! ).
