I've had colitis for about three years now and just went into remission after following a strict gluten free diet and using some supplements. I basically used good probiotics, aloe vera gel, flaxseed oil, and liquid chlorophyll.

[You might want to consider] Sprouted Flax Seeds, which keep fresh for at least two years! These are really special. Soaked and sprouted foods have "awoken" in some way, are much more powerfully activated healing foods, and seem to have, dare I say, immortal properties, like not turning rancid or decaying easily.

Excellent News, good wishes. Can you clarify how did you take the flax seeds.

1. Was it freshly ground everytime you gave her?

2. Was it Flax Seed powder or capsules bought from store?

Because freshly ground flax seeds are good, Already ground flax seeds powder or capsules are oxidized which is less potent. thanks

(Ground Flaxseed) This is my wife's story. About 5 years ago, she was diagnosed with UC. After 6 months, 2 colonoscopies, and two prescriptions for the exact same drug(different brand names), I decided to try and figure this out, myself. Plus, her knee began to swell, and she was diagnosed with rhumatoid arthritis. I first looked at her diet. The one thing that she was missing from her diet was omega-3's. She hates fish. So, I looked for foods with the highest concentrations of omega-3's.

This brought me to flaxseed. When I looked closer, I found that flaxseed is a natural anti-inflammatory. Plus, the lignans, in flaxseed, are building-blocks for the lining of our intestines. This seemed like a no-brainer. The only thing that confused me, at the time, was what brought it on. The only thing that I came up with was the fact that she had her gallbladder removed two years before. I assumed that the bile acids constantly dripping into her intestines was the cause(not sure though). So I initially put her on a simple potassium and magnesium supplement(two weeks). This calmed things down a little.

Then, I had her take two tablespoons of ground flaxseed per day with a glass of water. Within two weeks, the swelling in her knee had completely disappeared. And after one month, all symptoms of UC were gone. It's been 4 years now, and no problems. She eats everything she wants, including hot wing pizza(her favorite), and has no problems, whatsoever. I wish more people knew about ground flaxseed, and how it worked so great for my wife. If anybody feels the need to ask me anything, please feel free to e-mail me direct. (jclosson3(at)nycap.rr.com)

Hi All / Ted, Maybe you can research this further. I found this comment on a site called ihaveuc. com. I do believe UC is bacteria related. Maybe Ted or some other expert can shed some light on this new study by the Japanese research team.

Japanese researchers identified a particular bacteria (Fusobacterium varium) as a cause of UC. This bacteria produces a substance (butyric acid) that attacks and inflames the bowels.

See here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1773498/

They are now targeting the bacteria with specific medications.

See here: http://www.thedoctorschannel.com/video/3068.html

Other information on effective antibiotics for this bacteria, drugs that will block the specific organic acid created by this bacteria, and drugs to keep it from implanting into the bowel's mucosa is available here: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7700106.html

If anyone can address this data, that would be great. I don't want to take too many medications or natural remedies without understanding the root cause of the problem. My gall bladder was removed in the mid 90's so it is possible that I may have been more susceptible to this disease - not sure. I was diagnosed last summer. (about 7 cm uc found at the entrance of the rectum)... On Asacol now... we'll see...

Your response would be appreciated. Thank You, J

For Poutou from Brockton, Mass--Our 26 yr old daughter has had UC for 3 years and takes Asacol, but was having light bleeding regularly. At last she's found a program that works for her; I encourage you to try it also. First of all she is a strict vegetarian-no meat, fish or eggs. Animal products putrify in the intestines and build up decaying waste matter even more when digestion is impaired. People with intestinal illnesses (and all of us) need to keep the gut clean in order to heal. Since Cath has had UC, no dairy, spices or salt. Probiotics are a must-- 3 times the amount the label says to take--as all pharmaceutical drugs kill off good bacteria in the intestines. For the last month she's had no bleeding since doing these 3 things religiously every day: 1. Fennel seed tea--wonderful for digestion and reduces inflammation. One person on a website wrote, "Trust me. Fennel seed tea stops bleeding of UC. " Cath has found it to be so. Bleeding stops gradually, over a couple weeks. Pour a cup of boiling water over 1 tsp. Fennel seed (avail. At health food store or order on internet); cover and let steep at least 15 min. Drink 1 or a few cups a day. Our daughter Cath drinks hers in the morning. 2. Chia seed, soaked overnight in water, blended in a fruit smoothie for breakfast. Pour 2 Tbsps. In a cup of water, stir a couple times, cover and soak overnight. It forms a gel; stir again and store in fridge. Cath says if she doesn't have time to make a smoothie, she drinks the chia gel by itself, as she feels it's important for healing inflammation. It's pleasant and goes down easily; blending not necessary. Chia is high in Omega 3 essential fatty acids (EFAs), a high dosage of which, we saw on another site, heals UC. Cath drinks chia gel in evening also, by itself. She uses about 3/4-1 cup chia gel every day. 3. Diatomaceous earth (DE), food grade, a heaping Tbsp. Every night in water. It's wonderful for both diarrhea and constipation, and helps to keep the gut clean. Start with 1 tsp. In a glass of water (keep stirring, as it settles). Increase gradually to 1 heaping Tbsp. In 8 oz. Water a. M. And p. M. Check internet for sources. Good overview on Human Use Benefits and testimonials (including some for UC) at earthworks health.com and other sites. Two weeks of doing those 3 things religiously every day--fennel seed tea, chia gel and DE, along with a strict vegetarian diet, have brought Cath into remission. She's very excited and says she feels wonderful, with Normal bowel movements. She's reduced her Asacol use, as well, and plans to keep cutting back on it gradually. She does have an appt. To consult by phone with a homeopathic doctor in Phoenix, Arizona, whom we found on internet. This doctor told Cath she has 95-100% success rate healing UC, without drugs. Good luck.

Pramol from NYC, it's wonderful you've found aloe vera to help. We advised our daughter to use it a couple years ago, but she seemed to not take enough of it regularly, perhaps because of the taste, to make a difference. Good luck to all.

So I started flaring again after a long time of remission. It was kind of bad at first, but for the past week it got much worse. Yesterday morning there was blood and mucus and pain and urgency, and it was runny. I took baking soda and magnesium citrate in the morning and the again at night. This morning there was no blood or mucus, a little pain, better formed. I have never seen such immediate results! I was expecting months before I ever got to this point. I am very thankful for this remedy.

Thank you for your extensive, informative post. The last 4 funerals I attended were of slim, athletic people so it got me thinking "what went wrong"? Hereditary disease? Stress? Inflammation? Dehydration? Artery Plaque? Colon malfunction? Yes, dietary change is paramount. I have begun my journey back to good health, discovered Earth Clinic, family think I'm crazy BUT I'm sleeping like a log, suffer fewer headaches and manage stress better. Thanks to EVERYONE, your posts change lives!

I've had ulcertative colitis for over 35 years and have been on medications of one sort or the other for most of that period. For about the last two years I've been either off all meds or have taken an off-label medicine (low dose naltrexone), that apparenty has no known side effects. I no longer feel like a colitis patient; my overall health, including my lipid panel (cholesterol) have improved markedly.

My disease has been mostly limited to the distal (towards the rectum) part of the colon. My GI doc treated me with prednisone (oral hydrocortisone), hydrocortisone suppositories (when my symptoms weren't so bad) or hydrocortisone enemas (when my symptoms were not bad enough to justify prednisone and not under control enough to justify the suppositories. I'm highly allergic to sulfa (azulfadine) and asacol and asacol like drugs (which have a sulfa molecule bound to aspirin in the case of asacol).

A colonoscopy in 2009 found that my disease had spread, for the first time, throughout the colon, yet my symptoms weren't all that bad; my GI doc suggested strong immunosuppressive medications which I didn't want to take.

Since my symptoms weren't that bad I decided to look for alternative treatments, which, have completely changed my life and my overall health for the better.

After diligent research on the web I tried these treatments which each has seemed to help. In combination, I now feel like a new person.

Probiotics - more is better. The ones you buy at the health food store mostly don't cut it. Look at VSL#3 (can be special ordered with a Rx at most pharmacies) which has 250Billion colonies per packet (I find the packet more effective than the tablets for some reason). VSL#3 has been clinically proven in peer reviewed studies to help colitis.

I also take Probiotics (search google) 11 strain probiotic powder and for a year I took a probiotic (hard to get in US but is sold over the counter in Canada and is manufactured in Germany). I found an alternative medicine doc who recommended and wrote an rx; a pharmacy in the US purchases this expensive probiotic from Canada where it is sold relatively inexpensively.

I took multiprobiotic in the AM before breakfast, VSL#3 before lunch and Probiotics before dinner or before bed.

I also saw an alternative care physician who recommended I eat a diet she called an 'anti inflammatory diet' where you consciously try to avoid sugar spikes in the blood. A book called 'Beating Cancer Though Nutrition' discusses the concept and many web sites are available to discuss what to do.

Briefly: eat protein first and avoid high glycemic carbs (see www.nutritiondata.com), avoid sugar, fructose etc.

My waist size dropped from 36 to 34 on this diet and the love handles that I lived with since my 20s on prednisone disappeared. My HDL went up (the good cholesterol) and my LDL went down (the bad cholesterol) and I looked and felt great.

With diet and probiotics I was able to significantly reduce the slight symptoms I had.

After about 6 months I ran across a diet called SCD diet (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) which I understand has helped thousands if not hundreds of thousands with colitis problems. I incorporated some of the ideas from this diet and made the decision to eliminate wheat from my diet. I believe I was getting a sub-clinical reaction to wheat consistent with what is called Leaky Gut Syndrome.

I lost more weight and felt even better after eliminating wheat. I would cheat a little bit, once in a while, but overall was wheat free.

I ran across the work of Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who promotes a diet similar to the one I was on for people with heart disease or who want to prevent heart disease proactively. I joined his Track Your Plaque program and read his book (today he has a book you can purchase from Amazon). I also embraced what is called a Paleo diet and the advice of a blogger named Mark Sisson. I don't eat as much meat as most Paleo people or Mark Sisson seem to, but otherwise am now on a Davis/Paleo/Sisson program.

My waist went from 36 to 32; I have a six pack. I weigh the same today as when I graduated college. I am fit, healthy and I eat as much as I want, whenever I want and I don't gain weight and I had almost no colitis symptoms.

In February 2011 I started to have some mild colitis symptoms; I wasn't taking any Rx meds for any condition at this time; strickly the program described above.

I sought out a local doc (San Francisco) who has incorporated a very small (one tenth the usual dose) of naltrexone, called LDN or Low Dose Naltrexone. LDN shows tremendous promise for treating MS, Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis, several cancers and basically any autoimmune disease; search google.

I started LDN in April of 2011 and my remaining colitis symptoms simply dissapeared and have been gone ever since. LDN is not something you take by itself; you need to employ other lifestyle changes; to me it was the last boost I needed to feel completely disease free.

In February 2012 I had another colonoscopy and the doc said I had very mild inflammation in the distal part of the colon and the rest of the colon looked normal. He said the inflammation I had was no big deal and I should keep doing what I'm doing.

As they say in the automobile advertisements: your mileage may vary. Overall, low glycemic eating is helpful for any autoimmune disease, weight loss without actually counting calories.

Hope this helps someone else.

I've had colitis/proctitis for a year now. I got hit after an over-prescription of anti-biotics (thanks doc! ). As most of us know, big-pharma has a lot of shills in the medical field and most physicians are more interested in pushing synthetic chemicals onto their patients than identifying the root cause of a problem.

After I was diagnosed, I took a lot of pro-biotics in capsule form for a few months with no positive results. I tried several brands to see if one was better than another, but nothing helped. It was only after regular use of Kefir and Fage yogurts that I had any real improvement. I now have no more bleeding, firm stools, etc. This didn't happen overnight, but I noticed an improvement after about a month.

I've made my own yogurts and suggest others give it a try. This is a good way to 'test' those expensive probiotic capsules. My experience is that a tablespoon of good yogurt will create a great new batch, but a few capsules worth of the same probiotics won't create a good yogurt under the same conditions. I suspect a lot of bacteria in capsules is either dead or so dormant that it passes out of a person before it does any good. Previously I was no fan of yogurts, but I am now.

After planting some vegetable seeds (& eating the leaves which grew) using the following techniques my ulcerative colitis healed up about 70 percent within a couple of weeks.. Feel free to try it :)

Anastasia and the Power of Healing Yourself through Plants

These planting techniques have been scientifically tested. People who were sick or lacking in certain nutrients etc. Grew the seedlings using the method below, & the leaves or fruit off each plant were shown to have produced more of whatever nutrient the person was lacking in. This resulted in healing for a variety of diseases. (The plants cater to different needs of the individuals who grow them). Healthy people also experienced extra benefits from using the techniques.

The weeds should not be disposed of completely, as they have their own appointed function. Some weeds serve to protect the plant from disease while others give supplemental information. During the cultivation time, it is vital to communicate with the plant. And it is desirable to approach it and touch it during a full moon at least once during its growth period. Anastasia maintains that the fruit cultivated from the seed in this manner, and consumed by the individual who cultivated it, is capable not only of curing him of all diseases of the flesh whatsoever, but also of significantly retarding the ageing process, rescuing him from harmful habits, tremendously increasing his mental abilities and giving him a sense of inner peace. The fruit will have the most effective influence when consumed no later than three days after harvesting. The above-mentioned steps should be taken with a variety of plant species (sunflowers & wheat have been recommended to be included) in the garden-plot.

Many people have also reported healing benefits from cedar oil (also mentioned in the Anastasia books).

Peace. :)

Hi. I have had uc for awhile now. I'm 29 and athletic. I'm pretty sure it started due to a combination of high stress and taking antibiotics. I noticed so far that if I drink green tea with a lot of natural honey, not the stuff one buys at supermarkets it decreases the flare ups. If you have a flare up, greeted with honey dissolved in it calms it down pretty fast. Exercise and diet along with pentasa helps a lot. I'm at my best when I bodybuild and eat dry foods, brown bread, turkey slices, low fat cheeses n so on. But give the green tea with 1/4 dissolved naturally honey a try it's a life saver for me.

6 Years of Ulcerative Colitis. Normal function within about 10days.

I moved to America in early 2005 and immediately started having problems with my GI tract. Stomach cramps, frequent bathroom visits and weight loss were all symptoms. In a bad day I would use the bathroom 20 times. After 6 months I returned home to Ireland and saw a GI specialist who tested me and said I had IBS and to watch what I eat and learn to live with it. Over the following years I just gritted my teeth and got on with life. I moved back to the USA. I always knew where the bathroom was because I might have to run there at a moments notice.

In June 2011 I had a terrible episode after going wine tasting in Napa, CA. I knew alcohol wasn't good for my stomach but I wasn't aware just how bad things can get! This was the first time I had a bad UC flare up. I lost about 12 lbs in 3days and only narrowly avoided hospitalization because I went to see a GI specialist. I had all the tests and he diagnosed me with gastritis in the stomach, an esophageal ulcer and pretty severe Ulcerative Colitis. He said that UC is an autoimmune disease and I will have to take medication for life to deal with it. I was annoyed that I officially had a disease with no cure and I wasn't prepared to accept that.

I took the Meds: PPI for stomach acid and Asacol HD for anti-inflammation of the bowel. The PPI helped the acid in my stomach but the Asacol only helped a little. I went for my follow up visit and there was some improvement (bathroom visits down from 12 to about 6/day and I still had the urgency that only someone with UC or a similar problem can understand) but not as much as the Doctor would have liked. He told me to stick with these Meds for another 2 months and if there is not a significant difference then he would consult with some other Doctors and start steroids etc. I did not want to go down this route as the logical end is surgery and colostomy bag.

I started trolling the internet for cures. Tried yogurts- no help. Tried paleo diet/gluten free- no help. Tried staying off alcohol-helped a bit but not enough.

I then decided that I had to get my acidity under control. I started taking baking soda and water and it helped a bit. I also started eating organic food and reducing processed foods including refined sugar which I know could send me to the bathroom in minutes. Then Ted suggested on this site to try Humic Acid. I liked the sound of how it blocked the fungal/myobacterium cycle and I ordered some in liquid form online. Within 3 days of taking humic acid I noticed a difference. My urgency was reduced and the occasional stool was already getting firmer. Day 5, I was shocked at the effects, my stool was like I remember as normal.

I stopped taking the humic for one weekend (5 days on, 2 days off theory) and symptoms got slightly worse towards the end of the weekend so I resumed the humic on the Monday and I haven't stopped since. I believe Humic acid is mostly responsible for the unbelievable improvement. Removing the toxins from my diet and not drinking tap water filled with fluoride and chlorine may also be a factor. I also take L-Glutamine and Vitamin D and have started to take the fulvic acid also because they say it is best to take both together for overall health.

I want to shout it from the rooftops- Humic acid is a miracle for UC, God guided me to earthclinic and God bless you all for helping!

Im not usually a blogger - but feel it necessary to write about my positive experiences. I have first flare up of UC around 4 months ago. Following numerous tests and colonoscopies my GI prescribed Pred and MP60 pills. Both of which were horrible for my system, I put on weight, lost hair, felt tired and irritable. After the course had finished, nothing had worked, so my GI upped the doses and I started all over again. Once again it failed to get me into remission.

I then (after finishing the course) put aside western medicine, and tried some eastern cures. First attempt was using pro-biotic tablets, I used it for 2 weeks, and it didnt really do much for me. Then I turned to cats-claw tablets, again no real response. Finnally I stumbeled across Aloe Vera. This worked instantly for me. One shot in the morning orally and once again in the evening. Withing 2 days I noticed the bleeding and the bloating reducing, and within a week it had fully subsided. I now keep one gallon in my fridge, and whenever I have flareups (like last night) quick dosage of AV nips the UC in the bud and I return to normal life. I have no adverse side effects from AV (appart from the horrible taste! ). I also adjusted my diet, I reduced dairy and carbonated drinks, and reduced cafine. I also stared yoga and running more often. I can say emphatically that AV along with diet and more excercise has changed my life!

I have also been diagnosed w/ U. C. I always asked my Dr. what can I do Diet wise to change my health? He says no diet can change my condition. I don't believe that. I went on a gluten free diet about 4 weeks ago. I have normal, even awesome! bowel movements now. I know that sounds gross to alot of people but if you have ever spent a year or more looking for the next bathroom, never trusting a fart, and just feeling so bloated and sore that you don't want to be around other people, you know what I mean.

I went gluten free after reading about people w/celiac. I thought, well, sounds like gluten is pretty poisonous, so I cut it out. Gluten free is easy if you don't have alot of other allergies. All fruit, fresh veggies, rice, beans, corn & corn cereal, meat, fish chicken are gluten free. I never was big on cake or pastry so that's ok. I do miss fresh bread though. You don't have to look for a label that says Gluten Free, just eat real food. Berries, yogurt, veggies, chicken, corn tortillas, baked potatoes, fish, black bean dip, etc. All good for you. Good luck and I hope it works for you all like it has for me! : - )

Hi Everyone, This is a story of my sister (Nafisa Naviwala) who had Ulcerative Colitis few years before-

6yrs before at the age of 21, my sister gave birth to a child... On that day she passed the stool which was very liquid... From that day the actual problem started but couldn't realise... Every night she used to go for toilet once, but the frequency increased day by day... After some days the stool also contained drops of blood... We went to several doctors to diagnose but none of the doctors could imagine what the actual problem was. They thought it was piles. After several doctors one of the doctors examined and asked to go through an endoscopy. We went to Rajkot (City).

We did the endoscopy but due to careless behaviour only half of the Endoscopy was done. Medicines were prescribed by the Doctor which was manly Mesacol and others. The problem was contained for several days but then it came to that point again. Doctor was contacted and asked to increase the dose to double. But problems continued.

We didn't had more trust on the doctor, so shifted to one of the famous hospital of Mumbai. Once again the overall process started but problems continued. The daily charges and medical charges were too expensive. After 8-10 days treatment under Doctor's supervision, we decided to come back and continue from our hometown. After some days, it came back to its original place. Contacted the doctor but he asked to get admitted and to be in his supervision. This was not which could be afforded.

Doses were increased but there weren't any solutions... People use to give several advice- knocked the doors of homeopathic, Ayurvedic and several others... This continued for a year. But the problem still prevailed. Doctors use to show faith and trust on their medicines but there weren't any results.

Weight was reduced to 27kgs from 42kgs. Frequencies of motions were increased to 12-15 times in a day. Other severe problems started: black outs, memory loss, weight loss, body pain etc due to heavy doses of steroids and other medicines.

Family Surgeon recommended a Gastro-Enterologist doctor in Rajkot. One more knock on the door. This time it was Wockhardt hospital. Overall process was again started. Endoscopy, Biopsy and other major blood reports were done. After examining the reports, on consultation doctor advised, the problem has been from a long run and colitis spread in the major parts of large intestine and it could also spread to small intestine which could further lead to Cancer.. He advised, we would take a chance with medicines for maximum of 3months, if still prevailed would recommend surgery (removal of large intestine).

Medications were started; suppository, azoran, mesacol, Entofoam and others were advised. But no recovery in the given deadline. Same problems existed. Doctor asked to opt for surgery and recommended one of the best doctors of Gujarat.

Moved on to Ahmadabad this time, Hari-Bhakti Surgical Hospital now as Kaizen Hospital. Under the guidance of Dr. Hari Bhakti and Harshad Soni two well known masters of this field. Surgery was done in two stages and large intestine was taken off. At first some minor problems prevailed after surgery, but then everything was taken care by these doctors.

Ulcerative colitis had ruined her entire life. Marriage life ended in a divorce as soon as Ulcer was diagnosed. Now she lives a normal life with her 2 children. My advice is not to take Ulcer symptoms lightly, as it can damage your whole life. Homeopathic & Ayurvedic is hard to believe in these cases. People simply waste months and years in these treatments. If 6years before we would have consulted a specialist or a good doctor we wouldn't had to come so far. It could have easily been treated with medications.

Please do consult in case you need any further advice on my email- nadeemnaviwala(at)yahoo.com

I am diagnosed by UC on 2007. Since then I am on different medication from light medicine all the way to heaviest and costly mEds. Medicine helped but never cure me or near remision. Always has pain, cramping, and some bleeding. My stool always soft and urgency my biggest fear. However a big change happened when I was talking to a pharmacist from middle east who is specialist with natural remedies beside conventional meds. He suggested that 60% of his patient who follow gluten free diet get major improvement on their UC conditions.

That was on January 2012. Since then I am strictly gluten free. First month of this diet which was February, pain start to disappear, reduce steroids from 40 ml to 10 ml per day. On March there was improvment on urgency, and stool get somewhat harder. And now end of April, I skiped my infusion, free of steroid, no pain at all, stool very hard, and I go to bathroom once or twice a day after I used to go at least 5 to 7 times. The only medicine I am still taking is the Imuran 50 ml a day. I am planning to do colonoscopy sometime on November. I hope that will help you guys and make you feel better. Thanks

Our bodies become overly acidic when we eat the wrong foods, or are otherwise under stress, physical or emotional. As the "Eating For Your Type" book(s) by Dr. Peter D'Adamo shows, those with type O blood tend to have an even higher acid content to their blood than the other types. Thus, more type O's suffer from acidic diseases like esophgeal reflux (i. E. Acid going upwards) or acid going down to either create or irritate intestinal problems.

After being diagnosed with UC, I began killing offending pathogens with a substance called mms. You can still order it online in the US or elsewhere under the name "water purifier. " I found that mms kills every pathogen, virus, bacteria and parasite. I weigh about 115 lbs. So I worked up to taking 3-5 mixed drops of mms every night. But please start with only 1 mixed drop for three days, then proceed upwards evey three days. You may be able to handle 5-10 mixed drops if you're 200 lbs or more. Then, each morning upon rising I take 1/4th cup liquid bentonite stirred into VERY dilute unfiltered apple juice (I have low blood sugar) or if you can, just plain, clean and filtered water. If your problem is very severe (such as bleeding) you may want to take the bentonite 2-3 times daily. Be sure to NOT eat directly following for at least 45 minutes. Do sip on at least 16 ounces of water for the following hour. Think of liquid bentonite (also called morilianite) as soothing spackle for the colon. It pulls the now-dead pathogens out of your bloodstream and off your intestinal walls. It helps prevent a sick die-off feeling (Herxheimer reaction) because it pulls the toxins OUT into the colon to be eliminated more easily instead of letting them accumulate. It coats ulcers unbelievably well. Coupled with the right diet for my blood type, I haven't been bothered by UC once since I began following this regimen. If you don't know your blood type, buy a simple blood test online or from a health food store for about $20. Read about the diet designed to help your particular blood type. Others who suffer from IBS or other intestinal disorders say they've also benefited immensely from this regimen. I sincerely hope this helps other suffers as much as it's helped me.

Ted's Remedies

You are in the same place I am. I'm continuing the asacol while on Ted's remedy and on a prednisone taper as well. I'm in a moderate to severe flare up for 6 months, first time in 8 years when I was diagnosed and I'm a 48 year old athletic male. 8 years with no meds at all until a dentist over prescribed antibiotics for 6 weeks. 1 month later all hell broke loose and here I am because the Dr's have no clue what to do except to pump me with steroids and asacol and it doesnt work.

So, I started doing enemas with supreme humic/fulvic acid mixed with 5ml of aloe vera oil and water three days ago. I'm also taking melatonin as its better than sleeping pills and it can help. My bleeding for the last two months was scaring me although my levels were fine as per emegency room visit do to reaction to a new med az-something. My pancreas failed, nice meds huh.. Anyway, in three days my bleeding went from an 8 out of 10 to a 1 out of 10! DR's want nothing to do with this and just stare at you like a puppy with their head tilted and then tell you about the newest drug. I was scheduled for remecade but I'm trying this first as it makes more sense.

I also started using DMSO yesterday after days of research. Research everything on this site and see what you find as you'll be surprised how clueless the medical field is or maybe just against natural cures. I'll see if the DMSO helps as the only side effect is the smell. It makes your breath smell like Creamed Corn and Garlic, kinda funny though..

Also I've cut out all sugar, iron and calcium as per Ted's Remedy. Steamed veggies, chicken, oatmeal plain etc. Ive lost some body fat so at least that's positive and I've had a lot less trips to the bathroom in the last few days which is a relief. I also drink the humic in the am and also aloe vera juice. The steroids gave me mouth sores but after 4 days of the aloe orally they were gone and that was two weeks ago. I'm forming stool as well now but still running but then aloe can have that effect as well.

Hope this helps.

Ted's Remedies

Hi, I have had ulcerative colitis for two and a half years and was able to achieve remission for about a year and a half with asacol. However about two weeks ago I came out of remission with small flare ups that have now become larger. I have done a lot of food elimination which helps with the pain, but I am still bleeding badly. I just got my order of Supreme Fulvic and Humic acid Complex. So my question is should I stop using the asacol and just start the Fulvic/Humic acid regimin? Instructions say to take it 30 mins before meds, but I am dosed 3 times per day 12 pills that are time release. I don't want there to be a clash between the two, but I don't want to make my flare up worse if the asacol is somehow helping even if just a small bit. Just need some advice. On a side note I also ordered Renew Life Critical care probiotics that I plan to start as soon as they arrive.

Regarding: 01/13/2012: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "I have updated the ulcerative colitis remedy to include digestive enzymes, although not necessary, but unripe papaya is necessary or at least bromelain will help.

Is there some way to see the "updated ulcerative colitis remedy"? I'm picking up pieces of it from quesitons and answers, but if it's in one place, updated -- that would help a lot.

Pelargonium Sidoides

I felt compelled to share something that has been helpful for my daughter's U/C. We stumbled across it completely by accident when looking for a natural sinus infection cure. We purchased a box of Nature's Way Umcka Cold Care. We decided to go with the 'soothing hot drink-lemon flavor' option as it was slightly less expensive than the other forms of the product. Within 2 doses she started to show signs of intestinal relief. Initially, she did have one movement of passing a lot of mucous. After doing some reading on the ingredient in this product (Pelargonium sidoides), I would attribute that to the fact that it has expectorant properties to expel contaminated mucous. Within a couple of days, she was starting to have stools that were somewhat formed & only going to the bathroom 3 times a day. It seems that the history of P. Sidoides indicates that it was also used for intestinal ailments as well as respiratory ailments. I don't know exactly which properties (or maybe it's a combination of them all) makes it effective but it's cetainly worth a try.

We have tried so many natural things in order to minimize having to use pharmaceutical drugs & other drastic medical interventions (surgery, immunodepressants). This includes diet changes, acupuncture, supplements, Sangre De Grado, etc. Dealing with any of these horrible digestive diseases is a nightmare. I'm not saying this is a "cure-all" for U/C but maybe it can bring some relief to someone else out there that is suffering from this hellish disease. It's certainly worth a try. Good Luck!!!

Dietary Changes
Posted by Pfred (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) on 01/30/2012

I was diagnosed with IC in Nov. 2011 but have been symptomatic for years. I am a medical researcher. I believe in a balance between modern medicine and natural medicine. After I gave birth to my daughter 12 years ago, it has been downhill since. I have diabetes, fibromyalgia, depression and anxiety, gastroparesis and now ulcerated colitis. I have had a full hysterectomy and have had my gallbladder removed. One thing after another. This is my strategy to save my body from anything else and also cancer. Before I made any changes or adjustment to my personal intake, I researched each area to substantiate clinical research and validity of each issue below. I personally required (for my body) at least 3 to 5 different references that all stated the same claim metabolically and with the same efficacy.

(1) Ph levels

Ph levels must be balanced or our immune systems attack our own bodies. So, I have switched to a balanced acidic / alkaline diet. It was easy. I just added a few things to my diet and removed a few things from my diet. I also bought the four books that they suggested on this sight for references. Once you are Ph balanced, you can move on to the next item - Enzymes.

(2) Digestive Enzymes

Since I have had my gallbladder removed, I have only added chemical enzymes - Reglan and Hyocycamine. They work for a while and then stopped. I ordered enzymes from a business in Alaska. Their digestive enzyme supplement is called _________. Their medical claims are correct. Their opinions are their opinions. I will know the outcome in a few months with another colonoscopy and of course bloodwork.

(3) Humic minerals.

I followed advice from this site and ordered these minerals. Immediate change. So, logically if my body is in great Ph shape, I have added the Enzymes to help clean my blood and force my immune system to stop attacking... It is logical to add the Humic Minerals to my much depleted body. The enzymes will help my body get back in shape and then put those minerals to work. I take _____ Fulvic and Humic Complex - $49. 00. They send dosing instructions.

(4) Prickly Pear supplement

I am taking this to help with inflammation. Go to your health food store. I plan to replace with real prickly pears as soon as the weather changes and I need to check the Ph level as well.

(5) Aloe Vera Juice

I am taking this to help with inflammation. Go to Walmart Pharmacy. Ph level on my jug was 6.2.

(6) Take YOUR MEDS

Do not stop any meds without Dr. Supervision. Results are measured via scopes and bloodwork. That is how you make decision. ALways use your facts and leave emotion out of the decision. Cell repair takes time. Finish the course of Prednisone per your Dr. Advice. It is saving your life right now. You will be off soon and then that weight will start to go away.

This strategy is for my body. I wanted to share. I hope the best for all UC patients. We all know it is not any fun and we share your emotions at all levels.

Diagnosed with UC after two stays in the hospital. Prior to diagnosis, my hair was falling out. Have you ever heard of this? Also, if I am about to have a flare up, my sweat smells like vinegar and my teeth hurt.

Aloe and Slippery Elm

Hi Steve. Thanks very much for the advice. I have googled it and it looks very promising. I will likely give it a go. I have to look into the specifics("natural" vitamin E and "distilled" water). I am currently on Salofalk enemas -- I wonder could I empty one of those enemas and then load that up with a syringe, with the vitamin E mixture..... And also stop my Salofalk enemas?

I am currently still suffering big time -- off work for five months and no end in sight. The GI doctor has me on Prednisone and Imuran. He has tried everything with me, but the only thing I respond to is Prednisone, which is not the answer.

I am not a believer in meds and have researched a natural solution for meds. I am currently working to alkalize my body. I am big into probiotics, as well, switched to VSL3 and am taking four pouches daily of 450 billion units, but I am not seeing any difference, after apprx four weeks or so.

Baking Soda

I had symptoms for five months. Went to the ER with pressure in my abdomen, bloating, low fever, chills, nausea and headache. I was given ALL the tests CAT scan, blood work and ultrasound all came back normal. I still had symptoms that seemed to fit with ulceration colitis so I tried Ted's Remedy - 1/2 teaspon each of Milk of Magnesia and Baking Soda in glass of water I did this twice daily. My symptoms decreased 50% the first day and by day three all symptoms were gone! However, I will continue with the remedy for ten days just to be on the safe side. I'm glad I wasn't diagnosed by my doctor in the states, because I do not want a preexisting conditions in my medical chart! Crazy as that sounds!

Brad - Have you checked into Vitamin E treatment. Just do a google search for "ulcerative colitis vitamin E". I have suffered for years and felt I didn't have anything to lose by trying it. I started the treatment two weeks before a colonoscopy. I noticed a difference within a couple days, and did not treat in the second week. My GI declared me UC free. He didn't take well to my explanation, but I wouldn't expect anything different. He is about to lose a lot of money. This is no BS, I have been on Asacol for 8 years and suffered for atleast 8 years prior to being placed on the Asacol. I was totally shocked by the results. If you use this treatment make sure you get the "natural" vitamin e and NOT the "synthetic".

Humic Acid

Could you please tell me how to use Humic Acid as a treatment for UC? I mean how much quantity, how to take, any specification for the Humic Acid, any idea where can I get it etc. It would be really helpful as currently I am having a flare-up.

Humic Acid

Anthony, I would add some milled flax seed during the Humic Acid cleanse as it will gently purge the colon of toxins. 1/2 spoon 2 daily. And why stop there, try some Dr. Christopher's "Red Clover Combination" for a whole body detox. These herbs will lose the bad stuff while the humic chelates for elimination.

Hey, that's great to hear such great news! God Bless you! I know the feeling. I have a pure humic acid, 100% humic and I have not had great success with it. I have no idea why, but I was gonna look into a new humic supplement. Which one have you used from the 2 you mention? I will try that one! Thanks so much!

Hello Ted, I just wanted to tell you that You SAVED MY LIFE. I was diagnosed UC almost 1 year ago. My entire colon was UC. Doctor gave me Asacol and Canasa. They worked 3-4 months, after that stopped. I have done SCD diet. Scd diet worked for awhile after 5 months stopped to work. I was going to bathroom 20 times a day with bloody diarrhea.

I found your article on this website. I have been using humic acid 3 months. It cured my UC. As far as I can see that people can not find Humic acid on the web. I would like to suggest 2 website link. People can find them. Thank you so much, this has changed my life!

Humic Acid

What is the dosage for humic acid?

Humic Acid
Posted by Anthony (Philadelphia, Pa) on 12/30/2011

Hey Ted, How are you doing? I bought some humic acid powder and I'm not exactly sure how my measurements should be. It's 100% humic and is completely black and when I have mixed it, it is a little difficult. I'm not sure why, but eventually it does mix but leaves some sediment at the bottom. Should this happen and is it fine? This is the place I purchased it from (http://www.teravita.com/Products/Products.htm). If you copy and paste the link you will see the products, however I have the 100% so it's not there but the 90% humic is there and it's the same description but obviously the most potent.

Also, how much should I be mixing??? I have been putting regular water in about a glass liter jar and putting 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of the humic in it and mixing. I drink 1 ounce 2-3 times a day. Is this ok? Could you let me know what I should be doing? I feel no different at all or any changes with myself or colitis. Everything seems the same basically, however it's only been a few days!

Also, as I understand, there should be no taste, but I do get an earthy/rocky taste with this.... Is this normal since it's 100%? So is you could help me with these four points, I would appreciate it so much!
1. Is this humic fine?
2. Is this normal the way it mixes and sometimes alittle clumps at the bottom (sediment)?
3. Are my measurements fine?
4. The amount I take is fine?
Thanks!

Hello, I am looking for any guidelines you have given in the past, regarding curing ulcerative colitis naturally. I came across an email addressed to "Ted" thanking him for his recommendations... I am interested in reading over those recommendations and the opinions on what causes it.

Thanks so much, Sally

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Toronto (Toronto, Ontario) on 12/22/2011

Hydrogen peroxide says "poison" on my label. I thought if you drink this stuff you can go blind literally. Who gave you the idea you can drink that stuff internally? There are limits the human body can deal with before it causes death or permanent damage, don't mess with already known to be dangerous stuff you don't understand fully. If God put a healing property in something to cure ulcerative colitis, I don't believe He put it into Hydrogen Peroxide, look to more natural methods of bacteria killing in things like ginger, lemon juice, garlic, cabbage, oil of oregano, etc.
