Sounds like all of you should be checked for food allergies, both IgE (immediate reaction) and IgG (delayed reaction/hidden).

Blood testing should give you a starting point. If positive, eliminate the offending foods (entirely) for 7 days. Both types of allergies were causing my fibromyalgia symptoms and chronic fatigue, as well as an array of other symptoms. When I follow a strict diet, my symptoms are gone. On a rotation diet, my symptoms are very, very minimal. The top allergens are: wheat, soy, milk, egg, corn and nuts

Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Natural4ever (Hudson, Fl) on 09/30/2010

Although I actually love the taste of ACV and only dilute it with water, the best way to take it is to mix it with apple juice if you like apple juice. You can't even taste it at that point.

I agreed that plastic is a problem, the EPA is doing studies on how much is bad for a person, may take years. I believe that microwaving anything is bad period. It changes the molecular structure of food making it no longer good for the body. Food tastes different when microwaved for that reason. I threw mine away years ago. I am much improved from diet changes, lack of plastic, no microwave and gentle stretching. I do many different things to help with the pain. A Solitens by Nikken helps, Hot baths with a cup of apple cider vinegar is like a small miracle. Liquid Calcium and Magnesium Malate help with sleepiness and brain fog. Lots of good water is a must. Dehydration increases pain. Acupressure massage therapy and chiropractor help. Natural sleep aids can greatly reduce sleep problems. Because there is no cure a variety of remedies works best. I have many more little things I do but cannot think of them right now.

Mangosteen
Posted by Lisa (Waynesboro, Virginia, United States) on 09/09/2010

My daughter was in severe pain with fibro for months until she found a mangosteen juice mix that has completely taken away the pain. It is the rind, juice and other purees (a premium brand). She drinks 4 bottles a month, has gone without it and the pain returns. It is expensive but worth it. If she doesn't drink it, the pain returns so she knows it isn't something else she is doing.

I believe I've had fibromyalgia since my teens but wasn't diagnosed until age 34 (I'm now 73). I developed fibromyalgia in the 1940's or 50's, before fluoridation, artificial sweeteners, antibiotics, plastic storage containers, teflon, mercury fillings, and other products that we often think may cause fibro. I was able to ignore my diagnosis at 34 for most of my life until I had a very bad flare 5 years ago. It cleared up after about 8 months but then a series of very stressful events began and I just got sicker and sicker, to the point of being suicidal. I have been trying all sorts of things for help (but I don't and won't ever take prescription meds for fibro, due to side effects). I have had good relief from pain by taking creatine (I get an inexpensive pre-mixed preparation from the grocery store made for athletes). It truly changed my life and gave me hope. More recently I was tested for Vit D and found my numbers are very low. My Dr. prescribed megadoses for it until next November. The issue with Vit. D is that the lack of it has very similar symptoms to fibromyalgia. I would encourage any fibro sufferer who hasn't been tested for Vit. D do so before beginning anything else. In my area, the test costs $85 but I would recommend giving up something else if need be, to pay for it. I think my fibro symptoms are generally cleared up for now (I will never be free from fibro, just trying to keep it in the background). I recently did three weeks of H202 internally for general cleansing, and now have started on ACV for hypertension and arthritis pain. Nothing to report on that yet tho. The last 5 years have been very difficult for me and I know many others are in the same boat. I say to you, hang in there, keep reading and trying everything you think might help.

Dietary Changes

From the information I have read, no level of fluoride is safe for the health. As far as I know, fluoridation has been forbidden for many years here in Europe. Still, my daughters, born in Holland after that were prescribed fluoride tablets by their pediatrician for many years. Nowadays I avoid anything which contains fluoride, especially toothpaste but even the floss contains fluoride and salt at well. One has to read all the labels! Water here in France seems to be quite bad (and expensive too! ) so we have a Brita filter on the tap but when we buy our own house we want to have a well and maybe have a system to filtrate it and use only that water.

Dietary Changes

Cindy, I have been using only distilled water for drinking( with the only exceptions being occasional fruit or vegetable juices) over 15 years now. In my opinion there are way too many differemt substances that are in the ground water of our planet to ever think that filtering will remove them. Only the distillation process completely eliminates a vast number of them. Again, in my opinion filtering is a cosmetic treatment and is promoted mainly based on taste, appearance and a few pollutants only. There are some that suggest distilled water will leach out minerals from your body but again I feel that it is great if distilled water leaches out materials then it could also possibly leach out other sourced toxins from the body. For those that don't feel they already ingest enough good and necessary amounts of minerals they can add a small quantity of sea salt to the containers of distilled water to provide safe trace minerals. Regards

BINGO! FMS/CFS suffer here... I can't take narcotic pain meds, so I've been doing a lot of research on natural ways to cope and improve the symptoms. Regarding dietary changes, I have been watching some documentaries regarding the effects of chemicals in our food chain. They support what I've been suspicious of for some time. I'm also learning from posts like yours about other toxic chemicals like aluminum, plastics, and fluoride. As a result of finding this site, I am on my 5th. Day of using ACV, eliminating all artificial sweeteners and most sugar out of my diet as well as MSG. I'm drinking distilled water and eating more healthfully. My question is... I have a filtered water pitcher and didn't know if this is a safe alternative to tap water, so I'm drinking distilled water until I find out for sure. While at the store yesterday, I read the box from a filter for my pitcher and it said it delivers a safe level of fluoride for health. I bought the filter, but won't use it until I find out if it's safe. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thank you! Cindy

I have a question on the borax treatment of fibromyalgia. I understand the ingredients and the 5 days on 2 days off but, what I don't understand is for how long. Is this something you would do everyday for the rest of your life or just short periods of time? Thanks for any help in this.

Great info Robin... Thanks... Apparently the Alpha Lipoic Acid is better utilized with Biotin.. Some brands have this in addition.

Let me start by saying that I've always been into natural health and supplements, and am very aware of my body and what goes into it. I knew something was wrong for about 6-7 years, but when fibro/CFS finally hit me like a mack truck last October, I was absolutely shocked that I was nearly crippled and could not stop sleeping. I knew I wasn't dying only because I had been trying tirelessly to lose weight since my daughter was born in 2005. It just wasn't happening. However, I could not imagine what could possibly give me so much pain and fatigue, but not be killing me at the same time?! Needless to say, I figured it out. Great... One of those things no one really knows what it is, where it comes from, etc. Well, the internet is now my best friend, which I'm sure is something to which all of you can relate. Okay, so I'll get to the point!! In May, I began taking acetyl l-carnitine with alpha lipoic acid (must be taken together) after okaying it with my rheumatologist. The acetyl l-carnitine actually GOT ME OUT OF BED and able to play with my daughter and do a bit of housework. Although, I still have a lot of pain, I no longer sleep for hours on end and some of the fog has lifted. Apparently, acetyl l-carnitine works with mitochondria and helps them to properly utilize energy sources. I'm also happy to report that, since I started taking this supplement, I've lost 12 pounds (in 2 months). I'm not sure if it's because my body is better processing my food intake or just the fact that I'm out of bed. All I know is that I have done nothing different calorically. For those of you with chronic fatigue, this is really, really worth a try. I thank God EVERY DAY!!

Magnesium, Malic Acid

I have been using magnesium with malic acid every day for 7 months. I can tell you that magnesium with malic acid definitely helps with my pain, most particularly in my arms. I have tried not taking it for a few days here and there, and there is no doubt in my mind that it's helping. Since it appears many Americans are magnesium deficient and that most multi-vitamins don't contain enough magnesium, if any, I'm going to keep this in my supplement regime FOREVER.

How much DMSO and how often to take for Fibromyalgia? I use DMSO topically. Does help some but not enough when the pain gets so bad and seems to be all over my body. I'd appreciate a reply. Thanks

Dear Sandy: Two things that are effective against pain is DMSO and MSM. It takes about a week to noticeably reduce pain and most effective after 2 weeks and maintaining that dose helps. Magnesium (no calcium) and hyaluronate should deal with other pain. Any additional information is welcomed. Ted

Dear Ted,

A few months ago someone told me about this site, so I started reading as much as possible in an attempt to figure out what was wrong with me. It seemed that every time I read something that sparked my interest you wrote it. About 3 years ago I became very sick crippled in bed with pain in my hole body. It felt like electrical shocks traveling threw my veins. I also experienced what I will call hot spots mainly in my left arm which I was not able to move with out pain for many months. I went threw test after test to be told all where normal. Finally I was told by an infectious disease doctor that I had undiagnosed lymes and probably had it for many years. I was given antibiotics and began to feel a little better. I have had many tick bites since I love the woods. My primary Doctor told me there was nothing wrong with me and suggested I get psychiatric help but at the same time he sent me to another Doctor and after a 2 minute examination he told me I had Fibromyalga. At that point I lost all faith in medical doctors. I spent many years learning to deal with the pain and just adjusted to the fact that if I was able to function for a day the next 2 days I would be bed ridden. Each day I had to force myself out of bed it was an effort just to get to the bathroom. There is a lot more to my story but I will get to the point. I finally decided to try DMSO and with in 5 days of taking a half of teaspoon I have no pain and the energy of a 3 year old child. I still have the numbness in my left index finger and thumb and tickling up my arm. But to be pain free after all these years is a miracle! If you have time to write back I can give you more details of other doctors findings concerning my spine and hips. I am afraid to continue with the DMSO for I don't know if it will cause other problems. Please write back with your advise.

Thank You!

Hi Debra, I hope that by describing my own efforts to mitigate my conditions, you may also find possibilities. Much of my pain and fatigue appears to be from the disemination of the herpes zoster virus(shingles) to my liver. I've been having consecutive outbreaks for three years straight. Much of the neuropathy has been in the liver area, radiating to the groin, kidney, and hip. There is at least one lesion(unbiopsied) on the liver at this time. I only suspect that these conditions are related because the outbreaks and the pain are simultaneous. I've been trying the remedies posted here on EC, and I'm having excellent results with the lysine 2000-4000mgs, sodium ascorbat e(2000-4000mgs, BHT(250mgs) combination daily. I had an outbreak today, but Its been nearly 2 mths. (outbreak free), and I had tried to stop the BHT and lower the lysine, sodium ascorbate. This protocol has greatly reduced my pain. I continue to take liver supporting herbs(dandelion and milk thistle). I am a supporter in full of treating the liver together with all conditions. Debra, when my symptoms are such that I have to increase the cortisol dosage;nausea, extreme weakness, headaches, and infections;it seems that those same symptoms are also that of liver dysfunction. I hope for you that finding the cause(s) of your own liver dysfunction and treating them may also bring you great relief. As for fatigue relief, I try numerous suggestions here again on EC. I have to be careful because some are overstimulating, causing anxiety, but I take smaller amounts of HP, iodine, and tyrosine for fatigue. For pain, fatigue, palpitations, neuropathy(also left hand and foot), shortness of breath, etc., I take potassium bicarbonate and potassium gluconate in divided doses, often 5000mgs daily at this time. I'm concerned about the causeneed for such a high dosage, but I have no negative side effects. I'm hopeful that in treating the liver and kidneys, that I may better balance this electolyte problem. Everyone is quite different in their needs. This is my best to you, Debra and all at EC, Connie

D-Ribose, ACV and Baking Soda, Coocnut Oil, Supplements

Please do a web search on D-Ribose and Fibromyalgia if you have FMS.

I was dx with FMS over 20 years ago, and know what a beast it is.

I started taking D-Ribose about 2 months ago, and am totally sold on it. It is expensive, (MO) so I finally broke down and bought a big container in bulk from a web-site I found. It is the most economical way to go.

I take one teaspoon in water 3x a day. It is a natural sugar that somehow helps the mitochondria in your muscles to recover. Like I said, you need to do a web search and read about it yourself. I can't explain why it works scientifically. I just know it WORKS.

I also take: (for past 6 months or longer)

ACV (apple cider vinegar) 2tbsp with 1/2 tsp of baking soda every morning. It seems to give me energy on a daily basis. It also reduces heavy menstrual flow on the "bad days" - on these days I drink all throughout the day.

3tbsp Extra Virgin Coconut Oil per day.
(Start SLOW or you will have an upset stomach!)
This is the only oil I ingest - I also put it on my skin after a shower every morning. Buy the best you can afford, and it must be white - not gray colored. The white stuff is the good stuff!

Other things -

400mg Magnesium
2000iu Vitamin D3
2000mg Vitamin C
DIM (google that - good for estrogen metabolism!)
Progesta-care complete...Natural progesterone cream

I am a 49 year old woman with NO signs of menopause or peri-menopause. I am feeling pretty good, even with the FMS. Have not had a flare since I started the D-ribose.

Good luck to you if you have FMS - I know how horrible it is, and how much we all suffer - for the most part in silence due to most people not understanding.

FMS is one cr@ppy syndrome!

Hello Debra; How I admire your survival instincts! It is phenomenal that you have made a home and dealt with such blows to your wellbeing while maintaining hope. I hope for success in trying to be helpful to you. Firstly; Cortisol's effects are many, one being that it raises hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Potassium chloride may be too acidic for you if you have enough chlorides and not enough bicarbonates, (buffers), to protect your tissues. Maybe green grasses could be more palatable for you. Wheatgrasses, barleygrasses, alfalfa, etc., whether fresh or dried, have a mild scent.(maybe capsules would be gentle.) There are many great foods that are high in potassium,(I'm still researching the bicarb. aspect);so if you have a liking for pumpkin, winter squash, avocadoes, apricots, etc., your instincts will help you find what is best. As for your calcification issues;there are many great suggestions here on EC. Maybe the ones that are more moderate would be a good beginning. (herbs:chanca piedra, alfalfa, etc.,rather than acids and compounds) Some supplements can be problematic at this time when you are having liver and or kidney problems.(I became hypercalcemic with moderate amounts of Vit.D, even with trials of different types. I also have a liver condition.) An imbalance in the liver can cause great pain. I've had good results with dandelion root, milk thistle, and I'm "testing" chanca piedra.(need to be more scientific) These herbs and potassium bicarbonate have been most helpful for my own situation.(I do try many foods, supplements, etc.) Licorice is a great herb in many ways, but it does have the side effect of "sodium retaining potassium wasting". People with primary or secondary adrenal insufficiency oftentimes have gonadal imbalances: excessive or insufficient production of sex hormones. This condition can be a challenge to treat because of all the glitches that can occur in their metabolism. I've tried herbs and transdermal creams for my hypogonadism, and had various results. Progesterone cream was helpful in moderate amounts because it raised my cortisol level. In high amounts, the side effects for me were edema, mildly high blood pressure, tiredness,(similar to low potassium). I also tried estrogen and testosterone, but could not metabolize them well. I do take 10mgs daily of DHEA with good results.(If I take any more,I get pounding heart palpitations and insomnia.) It may be that DHEA could be of benefit for you,Debra,as in this condition, there is that tendency towards low DHEA. Thank You all, Connie

thank you again, you've been helpful. Unable to eat any of these foods. Finally I've discovered myself - doctors just arent interested in anyone with a diagnosis of fms, cfs or mcs, you can almost see the eyes roll around in their head - I have very advanced calcified arteries for my age and am at extreme danger of having a heart attack or stroke - also ca lying in my tissues, with mg adding to indescribable fatigue. I'm sure you have an idea of what I'm talking about. Since I now have high sodium and low potassium I got some potassium but is potassium chloride.....not what I need is it? I go into meltdown with anything that has a smell so that is part of my problem with food, cant go anywhere near essential oils. Spent 000s of $ on supplements but apart from digestive enzymes could not tell any difference. I can only imagine as Ted suggests the magnesium stearate and fillers stop you from absorbing them. As you suggest quality?? Ill let you know if I discover anything useful.

Hello again Debra; After writing to you earlier, and then realizing your dire need for pain relief, I also realized that potassium bicarbonate is usually not in everyones' pantry. But as so many people have here suggested, there are numerous foods and herbs that contain potassium and bicarbonate (precursors). Seaweeds such as dulse and kelp are excellent sources. Leafy greens juiced or simmered and drunk with their broth are great: beet greens, kale, collards, dandelion greens, etc. If tolerated by your body, soaked nuts such as almonds, tomato products(low sodium no additives), certain mushrooms, are high in potassium(first two),(one source indicated that cremini mushrooms are an excellent source of bicarbonate precursors). If you need help with digestion of these foods, try digestive enzymes such as pancreatin and bromelain. HCL is great if you have a need, but test first.(I've taken it for years but took too much in my supplements, and worsened my pain.) Essential oils are a great help. I use many and switch around.(now its peppermint oil,but ginger oregano, clove, etc. have been great. Most people dilute for internal and external use.) To source a supplier of supplements, you may want to look up those that Ted and others have mentioned. They are more pure and are sold in bulk. I hope for your relief, Connie.

If your symptoms are related to when there is little sunlight it may be a vitamin D deficeincy. Please do a web search on "low vitamin D symptoms".

I would also look in to magnesium supplementation as well.

I hope you find the answer you need and feel better.

Hello Debra,I hope this anectotal information is helpful for you. I have been taking cortisol for 5 years now for severe adrenal and pituitary insufficiency. The standard dosage for this condition should be 20mgs of cortisol daily in divided amounts. I have not been able to take less than 30mgs daily for 3yrs without severe symptoms. However; I have learned that most of these symptoms are the result of other causes as well as the side effects of the cortisol. Most people with this condition have a litany of imbalances, and blood tests, however limited, can reveal some of them. Electrolytes are usually a big issue. Usually, those with an insufficiency of an adrenal origin experience a low sodium/high potassium imbalance. People with an insufficient pituitary can experience a low sodium/low potassium imbalance. This is very generalized information. Chlorides and Co2 can also be abnormal or nearly such. Some of the symptoms you describe, Debra, could possibly be low potassium. I write this with great reserve because I only know so little of healing after a lifetime of research and experimentation. Low C02 can indicate low oxygen and low bicarbonates. Low chlorides can indicate low hydrochloric acid. In my own experience, low bicarbonates and low potassium have been the main sources of pain. Generally, cortisol supports the retention of sodium and the "wasting" of potassium. For my own case, I take potassium bicarbonate in larger amounts, and only occasionally take sodium bicarbonate, because the cortisol causes me to retain the sodium.(I also take potassium gluconate so as not to take too much bicarbonate.) As for the amounts you may need for now,Debra, Your instincts will be critical. Ted's recomendations are an excellent beginning, but you may need to adjust to your own condition and medication. Finally; I'm currently trying to approach the Origin of this condition and negotiate healing. It is hereditary, viral, microbial, etc., and I'm having great progress following numerous recomendations that you all suggest here at Earth Clinic. This is a very emotional Thank You to you all. May I suggest that you "cheat your body with a fake indoor light" by placing a desktop flourescent lamp next to your bed? Change the light bulb to an ultra-violet one, the ones being used to grow plants indoor. Or purchase a flourescent light bulb that is closest to sunlight or natural light. Leave it on for the whole night or after dark, do not wear any eye shade when going to sleep for your problems could be due to the reaction of your eyes to daylight, or lack of it.

Just a thought when I remembered we spend millions of dollars trying to develope a ball pen that can write in space while the Russians only use pencils!

Hope it will help! Regards!

In response to Carla from Seattle. You asked about D-Ribose, Carla. My 32 year old daughter has fibromyalgia and suffered all the awful debilitating symptoms....constant, extreme pain, bloating, IBS,insomnia, extreme fatigue, muscles which felt "bumpy" to the touch etc. I read of D-Ribose, bought from a web site in the USA, and she's never looked back. Takes the recommended dose of 500....is it mgs or gms?,1 scoop.....a day. A few months later I read a book called "The green solution".This is about spirulina. She came to taking about 6 tablets a day. This gave her more stamina and further decreased her pain levels.

She is not cured of fibromyalgia, can still get some very bad pain in her right neck and shoulder, especially in situations of stress, but the two supplements, plus magnesium, VitBcomplex, VitC, Apple Cider vinegar and honey and a strictly alkaline diet with very little meat, (only turkey or lamb and fish)and no wheat, enable her to live a full, busy life of quality.

I must add that she has chiropractic and remedial massage regularly and does certain stretches and exercises every day and walks about an hour at least 5 days a week.

I'm very proud of her persistance with all that she does. Many people know what they need to do to be healthy, but are not prepared to help themselves.

Good luck, Carla, from Wendy.

Hi Lee,

I just wanted to let you know that I did not use food grade but just went to the local store, Fresh and Easy and bought a bottle. Both my husband and I did it but each differently. He did it the spray method but I just took a q-tip and swabbed it way up in my nose. Now, I'm not telling you to use this method, I'm just telling you what I did and the results were amazing. My oldest daughter, age 23 was having a lot of trouble with her sinuses at the time and did this as well. My husband says to tell you his method gave him "radical results"! I also want to add that I then had to blow my nose continuously for about an hour afterward, it was like I turned on a faucet. Also, to others it appeared I had a cold but they had no idea I was doing this protocol. It was worth it though because I have never been so clear. Again though, I have radically changed my diet since Oct.09 and I am certain it has had profound effects on my health and body, restoring its balance. I hope this helps you. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and if I can answer them, I will.

If EC feels that this is too personal a request, I would love it if you could just email me. Thank you so much. Lee

I've had a similar experience. I have suffered from Fibromyalgia(among other health issues) since July 2004, when my child was born. Since going off of Gluten in the last 5 months, my levels are way down, and for the most part stay down. I'm still tender, but the constant pain has gone down to almost nothing, which is a huge relief. I don't have CD, but a Gluten intolerance or sensitivity. Either which can cause multiple health issues in multiple systems of your body at the same time. There are over 300 conditions that are linked to Gluten issues. I highly recommend everyone to avoid gluten (products with wheat, wheat flour, barley, or rye). Your health is likely to improve in a short time. At the very least you'll lose weight easily and get healthier than you were. There are many other whole grains out there which are healthier for us and don't cause the mal-absorption issues that gluten does.

Hi Carla,

I'm sorry to hear that you have suffered so much and for so long. I have dealt with lots of physical pain for almost 5 years and through my ongoing journey of trying to find a way to heal myself, I discovered this site. It's been about a year and a half since I've been coming here and have tried many of the remedies that are spoken of. Baking soda, ACV, VCO, oil pulling, H2O2 and each has given me some results. I tried all of them separately to see results they would give. The H2O2 was amazing in that the amount of mucus it rid me of was astounding! Have never been sick since that treatment! (Although I hardly ever get sick anyway) Then, I read about the mini beet protocol back in early Oct. on this site and decided to give it a go. In trying to find more info on it here and all over the net, I came up with nothing. But it led me to amazing juicing sites then onto rawfood sites and then to some of the most amazing people ever! I thought, what do I have to lose? Listening and seeing testimonials from people completely healed from heinous diseases and plagues of all sorts convinced me to give it a go. Within a couple days of juicing my physical pain was gone. I started eating about 90% raw food. Around the holidays it was a bit difficult to maintain that so I backed off some. What that did for me was make me realize just what a huge difference I felt in my body from the combo of juicing and rawfoods. I have lots of posts about the transformation on this site so I hesitate to go on about it. But, I would urge you to learn about detoxing your body. Just yesterday, I posted about an amazing woman that you can google named Donna Gates and learn all about that. Also, listen to Dr. Brian Clement on youtube who is remarkable and has healed thousands through green juice, wheatgrass, sprouts, sea veggies and rawfoods at his institute. I can't afford to go to his place but I can certainly listen to his protocols and implement them into my life. I used to be rendered helpless on the couch all afternoon in pain but that is the past now! Now I have my afternoons back to enjoy.

I really do hope this info helps you. It is a lifestyle change for sure, but one that has been so life-changing for me I will not go back. I continue to eat raw and take no dairy, pasta or bread. I think I've had meat about 6 times in the smallest of quantities since Oct.

I am 53 years young and my period ended 5 years ago with no other symptoms that women report when they go into menopause. I added that because I think it's important to know the place a person is at because our bodies are different at different ages and stages of our life.

I wish you the best in finding your wholeness once again. Lisa

Hello - I am a 49 Year Old Pre-Menopausal Female with fibromyalgia for the past twenty-something years.

They say people with FMS are usually depressed, and if you treat the depression the FMS will get better. I think if the FMS went away I would be GREAT emotionally. I think the depression is a result of feeling like absolute CR@P all of the time. (My Opinion).

That being said - here are the things I have been using and found helpful (not necessarily for Fibro)
Along with a question at the bottom re: a supplement called D-Ribose.

Thanks if you have read this far. Sorry if you are a fellow sufferer of Fibromyalgia - it truly is a misunderstood and lonely syndrome to have. Nobody really understands what you are going through unless they have suffered with it.

I use: (for past 6 months or longer)

Apple Cidar Vinegar and Baking Soda

2 tablespoons ACV with 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda / 2x - 3x a day - I find it is excellent for heavy menstrual cycles, somewhat good for energy levels - and not so great at helping the muscle pain of fibro (for me anyway).

VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) 1 tablespoon 3x day.

It doesn't seem to be helping my muscle pain, but it does boost my energy levels - dramatically. I find it "Jacks me up" - I feel like I am on speed or something when I take it.... Sometimes to the point where my heart feels like it is beating out of my chest. (Hey, at least I am not laying around in bed!).

I use VCO on my face and body every morning after showering also. I have noticed a skin tag on my eyelid is almost gone, which is kind of a miracle to me, because I have had it forever. A spider vein on my calf I have been watching has no change at all. Not so sure if it is helping wrinkles, I don't think so. My hair does seem to be a bit thicker, but I could be imagining that.

Vitamins / Minerals:

Magnesium - 400mg at bed - sleep better with it.

I am Not taking supplemental Calcium after reading what Ted said about it and muscle pain - and wondering if this might be a mistake?

Vitamin D 1000 mg & Vitamin C 1000 mg 2x day.

DIM-Plus (25% Diindolylmethane) 100 mg 1x day - DIM is a phyto nutrient that is getting all kinds of good reviews from studies done - "Google" it to learn more about what it does to balance Estrogen levels in women and men).

My QUESTION:

I am wondering if anyone has tried a supplement called D-Ribose for Fibromyalgia? I just started reading about it after seeing something on TV, and it looks very interesting.

I am thinking about trying it, and would really like to hear first hand accounts what others who have used it think of it, and if it really helped their symptoms - how long did it take to start working if it did, and if they are still using it.

ALSO - If you have any suggestions of any kind to make re other things to try for muscle and joint pain - That would be great. I would love to hear them.

Best,

Carla

I have been in so much pain with FM. Reading your message about feeling poisoned just hit me. I told my doctor that I felt poisoned just the other day. I also eat alot of food in the mirowave that are in plastic. I bought a bottle for water but the rim had some kind of metal and my mouth got sore. I have gotten sick to my stomach drinking bottled water in plastic. Didn't think it was the water until I quit and started drinking out of a glass and felt different. I have tried all the conventional way but still in pain. I am for sure going to make some changes about what is plastic in my life. I am for sure going to change cleaning products. I have muscle spasms in my body as well neck, back, legs, head to toe. Something needs to change and I hope that is it. Thanks for the heads up about the change in your environment.

Resistant Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgia

Helpful news from my doctors office yesterday. I was given info on a retrovirus XMRV showing up in the blood work of those who suffer from CFS and Fibromyalgia. (see link below) The article did not state Fibromyalgia but many who have Fibromyaglia have CFS. My doctor told me in approx. 2 months the blood test should be ready for use. This can be helpful for many who has tried everything with limiting results.

I have a request for help from our posting gurus to help with natural remedies for muting virus. I know BHT has been mention as one. But how much and how often, and are there other remedies?

Please note; thousands of "outdoor" people in Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, California (and other sunny places) have FM. I contracted it as a professional racing sailor in the South Seas (years under the sun daily).

Vitamin D

I'd like to second that. Symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency are similar to those of fibromyalgia- which I feel is a diagnosis often given when doctors just don't know what else it is. My sister presented these symptoms and was tested and found to be extremely deficient in Vitamin D. She is still working on recovering, since I believe this was one problem among others- but is worth looking into for anyone suffering. Especially since Vitamin D deficiency is more common than previously thought.

I read the information on your site about fibromyalgia and flouride poisoning but I didn't find any on the link between Vit. D deficiency and fibro. I just want to be sure that those suffering from this illness are aware of the belief that fibro. is considered by some to be an adult form of rickets. It manifests itself with signs of so many symptoms because if the body is deficient in Vit. D then it will become deficient in all of the minerals the body needs because without the vit. D in the colon minerals cannot be utilized and absorbed by the body. There is no substitute for the natural vit. D produced by the body by being exposed to natural sunlight....especially women are deficient because all of their makeup and body lotions block the UV rays of the sun. If you are suffering from fibromyalgia, please research the link between fibro. and vit. D deficiency.

I wanted to add to my previous post from last week on Fibromyalgia. I did want to add that I first suspected candida as the culprit to my body pains. I first read of candida and discovered coconut oil around the first of December 09. I read up and experimented with the Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and diagnosed myself with candida as I was experiencing candida die-off symptoms right away upon ingesting the VCO. I backed off and used as a lotion/moisturizer after a shower and under makeup to start with. I backed off again if the die-off symptoms returned. I started taking about a teaspoon daily of VCO internally this past weekend, six weeks later. So far no more die-off symptoms have returned.

At the same time just over two weeks ago I quit drinking the coffee creamer I suspected had this sweetener in it. As stated, my constant all over body pains were gone within 2 days and still have not returned.

My point--before masking symptoms with these drugs, try and find the source. I am only 30 and don't follow history much...but where was Fibromyalgia 50 years ago...even 30 years ago? Take a look at what is in your diet and check out candida symptoms and check yourself out. Modern medicine mainly antibiotics is a big culprit in causing candida from what I have read.

Both aspartame and candida are linked to body pains and a multitude of other side effects. My previous post list some aspartame websites, below are some candida websites.

Eliminating candida and as many of these darn toxic artificial sweeteners from my diet I am positive is what has made my symptoms disappear.

While researching info for rash I stumbled on the Fibromyalgia questionairre. I haven't been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia but suspect I may have this condition. In November 2007 I had a benign lump removed
from the right breast. At the time I was working an office job 8-5 and packing/cleaning a home in the evenings. I took 2 or 3 days break from the packing after the procedure then back to work. I began to have lower back pain radiating into my legs and attributed it to the increased physical activity and not resting enough. Over the next 5 months I was involved in moving my belongings from the Midwest to Florida and working on the house in Florida, it was very physically demanding. I had surgery for a complete tear in my right rotator cuff, a year later surgery for carpal tunnel in right hand. About 3 months after the rotator surgery I began to experience flu-like pain all over my body and was prescribed a well known medicine for arthritis. It helped but had to be increased eventually. Within a few months the carpal tunnel surfaced and I was prescribed a drug that is most commonly prescribed for Fibromyalgia. The commercials for this drug got my attention, as they address other symptoms I've experienced. It could be a coincidence but the symptoms seemed to start after I had the lump procedure and worsened after the rotator surgery. If I miss taking the arthritis med it's like I have the flu, actually worse, the slightest touch of my skin is excruciating. I want to wean from the second drug because I think it's causing weight gain. I received a lumbar injection yesterday and the Dr. wants me to continue that drug for an undetermined time.

The profiles from the Fibromyalgia questionnaire got my attention with the question about recent surgery. Does there seem to be a connection between surgery and onset of Fibromyalgia? Also I was in the military for eight years, 2 overseas and I can't donate blood due to possible exposure to mad cow disease. I'm 49, I've always been strong and healthy, the last 3 years have taken their toll physically and mentally. I'm a fighter and beginning to feel like a hypochondriac, any advice you can give is welcome.

Artificial Sweetener Link

My research is preliminary though I have experienced a reduction in all over body pain. I was beginning to think that I might have this new silly mutant desease that is now being titled Fibromyalgia. I am a daily reader of this site and was one day reading of aspartame poisioning. I was shocked that my beloved coffeemate creamer contained this new lab created sweetener stuff. I quit adding it to my coffee two weeks ago. Within a day/day and a half my all over body pain had quit.

I checked out this page today and was surprised to see so much pointing to flouride poisioning. I was sure I would see something about these artificial sweeteners causing what is now being diagnosed as Fibromyalgia.

I read of airmen being poisioned in the gulf war of aspartame. What I read was it was linked to pallets of diet sodas shipped to the desert. Being in the desert these cans were exposed to heat. Aspartame and its related biproducts are known to become toxic both in consumption and exposure to heat. Unknowingly they were consumed and that is what made these veterans sick.

Check your diet! The FDA has approved this stuff for use in our food products. OMG!!! We (consumers) are the guinea pigs. Do some research of your own. You don't have to look very hard either.

I generally eat fairly healthy though I love my junk food/fast food as much as the next. I do not like this diet stuff and even turn down sugar free items as I don't like the taste of those artificial sweeteners. I was surprised to find it in my coffee creamer and stopped it immediately. As stated, my pain has been gone for two weeks so far.

I love this site too! I just found it. I was diagnosed with MS, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia two summers ago. Yikes! I am treating my body with an all-natural approach. As I am sitting here, I am drinking my nightly apple cider vinegar tea (yeah, I know yummy eh). I will post all that I am doing one day but I just wanted to agree with the above-poster that this site is great! I can't wait to find out more good natural things to help myself.

Emu Oil is wonderful for sore muscles especially rib pain that i get with Fibromyalgia. Eating Cherries is also excellent for pain in joints associated with this condition. They really do help a lot as its been trial and error.

Misdiagnosis

I was sure I had Fibromyalgia; my joints and muscles were always inflamed and by the end of the day I could hardly walk. It turns out I actually have Celiac disease which is also an autoimmune disorder, but by eliminating gluten from my diet, I felt 100% better in just one week. I have felt like crap for 7 years and can't believe I didn't try eliminating wheat sooner. If you have joint and muscle pain and other symptoms of Fibro, it's definitely worth a try and very easy.

To Sherrine in FL. I started drinking acv a year ago different ways and had a hard time with it but it was worth it to get rid of the inflamation in my low back. I suffer from spinal stenosis and scoliosis. The best way I have found to drink acv is to put about 1 or 2 ozs. in a glass of vegetable juice. It makes it easier to drink for me.

I am so very pleased to have been able to find this website. It has really helped me a great deal!
