14 Natural Remedies to Soothe Tinnitus

Linked to Beta Blockers
Posted by Anne (Chicago, Il Usa) on 01/05/2011

I had arrythmia issues last year and was put on a beta blocker (25 mg Toprol)... Have taken it for about a year. I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) for the past 2-3 months that is driving me crazy. Online searching for tinnitus causes led me to find that some people have developed it AFTER taking beta blockers, and that it may never go away. Has anyone successfully stopped beta blockers and lost their tinnitus?

Tinnitus: I have had ringing in my ears seems most of my adult life but lately I really notice it. I take mag citrate about 200mg (1/4) tsp in the a.m. and another in the evening the whole dose says a 1/2 tsp is 630 mg. So I split it. My ears still ring. I take sodium ascorbate every other day, black strap molasses every day, squeezed lemon w 1/4 tsp bsoda every morning, Borax 3 days out of the week. I don't take the h202 very often because I take the lemon juice every morning. Can I take the h202 with lemon juice? I read you shouldn't take h202 with acv. I was taking the sea salt in my water everyday.

Lately I noticed when I do take it I get these spells like I'm going to faint. I get really whoozy like I need to take a deep breath and I have to put my head down. That's really scary especially driving. Could the sea salt be too much for me as far as sodium? Just this week I started the fish oil. I feel energized all but the ringing in my ears.

I take milk of magnesia once a week to really clean me out and it does. I tested my urine ph and it was 7-7. 5. So my biggest concern is the dizzy spells, drinking the sea salt in which I have probably done for 2 years but the last month or so is when the dizzy spells started.

The ringing in my ears is driving me crazy. One time it stopped and it literally stopped me in my tracks I had to turn around to make sure I was still upright. It was something I havn't heard in a long long time. I take granulated lecithin in the morning and the evening dose I add 1/4 tsp of baking soda, I usually sleep like a rock. I noticed if I don't take it I toss and turn. I appreciate any imput from Bill or Ted. I have had earth clinic in my life now for over 2 years it's my go to site every morning, I have helped a lot of people at work bless you all for such a wonderful and helpful site amazing what one can do with natural remedies you might just have in your pantry:}

Hormones

I am reading an awesome book on women in this age range and tinnitus is often caused by hormone fluctuations associated with such. Try over the counter progesterone cream, USP bioidentical, NOT yam extract. Research a little on it. It makes a lot of things right again with women around general age of 30 and beyond.

Hi Heather: I tried the head to the chest method and it brought the loud tinitis ringing I woke up with went down to a very low buzz. THANKS! I have come to the conclusion that tinitis is a direct result of what we put into our mouths that we are allergic to. Yesterday afternoon I had sour cream and eggs, two things I am allergic to. Before bed, my ears began ringing. I woke up to a loud, persistent ring and a swollen neck with lots of mucus. I immediately did your head to chest solution and ringing eased CONSIDERABLY. Took two straight TBLsp of ACV and wiped my neck with ACV and my swollen neck is going down. Later today I will take a tsp of VCO & 1/4 tsp cayenne for further aid.

Garlic

Perhaps the garlic soaked into the jaw area and killed microbes. Many people have undetected infections in their teeth/jaws. A biologic dentist told me of a patient who was suddenly freed from long term tinnitus as he cleaned out a back molar.

I have been a Tinitis sufferer for a few years now and only realized that is what I had after researching here. I had only heard of the ringing symptom and the loud noise cause. I have a a very unnerving vibration that feels like it is going through the base of my skull and I am pretty sure mine is caused from combination of too many prescription drugs. I was prescribed Topomax, Soma, and Klonopin at the same time. My left ear is already compromised from a lifetime of chronic ear infections and have had the ear drum blow out at least three times, so lots of damage and scar tissue. I do not believe there is a cure for it, however I have found you can relieve it temporarily with some of the "cures" on this site and I am here today to tell you one of my own I have stumbled upon. If you suffer from this you know how desperate one becomes. Simply sticking your finger in your ear helps and stuffing it with cotton can help to sleep, or laying on the side that is the worst if you have it in one ear like me. The biggest relief for me though that surprised me is tucking your head in towards your chest. Makes sense if you think of basic anatomy and where your eustacian tube is etc that this helps. Keep your back kind of straight as possible and tuck your chin in toward your chest and see what happens. I hope it gives some relief to someone else if only for a short time, and for some rest! Blessings to you all!

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

I never felt the pulse either. But, I just generally (and gently) massaged the area. You should be able to feel several lymph glands. My theory is that most people never even think about their lymph system, much less massaging under their arms. But, if you are a woman wearing a bra every day, that area suffers from impaired circulation. It would make sense then to move the area around and restore it.

I also believe the monks can help here. Look up the "5 Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation." The first one involves spinning that helps move the lymph system. I know spinning isn't seemingly the thing one wants to do when the problem involves the ears. But there would seem to be a connection here with the semi-circular canals, balance and opening up our systems.

Best of luck, hope this helps someone.

I tried the lymphatic drainage massage for tinnitus. It was absolutely amazing. It took less than 3 minutes on the side that had the tinnitus, and it totally faded out and didn't return. I think I had a bit of earwax buildup causing it. Thank you for posting about it. I intend to try it with any time I start to feel sick.

Hey guys I "HAD" severe tinnitus in both my ears. I suffered a hole in my ear drum when I was 12 .Then I played hard rock in a band from 17 to 23. I changed my diet (mainly staying away from alcohol sugar and salt)Stopped playing in my band and started going to accupunture and my tinnitus has gone from a rating of a 9 out of 10 to about a 2. I am so thankful this helped for me. And im sure if I start using a supplement or Appler Cider Vinegar it will completely go away. I hope my testimonial could help someone else with a similar situation.

THIS TOTALLY WORKS!!!

I have had tinnitus for at least 4 or 5 years. It usually wasn't too terrible, unless I had been to a concert that night, but enough to be distracting when I was trying to fall asleep. I worked at a health food store and tried a few different supplements & homeopathic remedies, but noticed little or no change.

I did this lymph massage a few days ago, and that very night had ZERO noises in my head! I don't know how long it will last, but geez, it's easy, painless, and free! It really did feel like Luis described; at first I felt a very faint pulse under one finger, which slowly got stronger until I felt it under all 3 fingers. Amazing! Thanks, Luis and earthclinic!

Tinnitus and DMSO:

DMSO used together with vasoactive drugs was administered by injection, and DMSO in combination with anti-inflamatory preparations was applied externally.

The treatment consisted of one daily intramuscular injection of Ipran (a Chilean drug), a preparation based on DMSO in combination with buphenine and aminoacids. The investigator was in this Chilean study was Dr.Aristides Zuniga. In addition to the injections, the external ear canal of the particular ear hearing the irritating sound was treated with 2 ml. of a medicinal spray containing DMSO and anti-inflammatory drugs described as Plus-Par (a Chilean Drug. The spray applications were made every four days during the entire period of treatment. In nine of the fifteen patients, the subjective discomfort and head noise disappeared completely after one month of treatment. In two others the noise diminished considerably in intensity but did not totally disappear. Four patients retained tinnitus but described it as changed and sporadic, especially when they were exposed to the cold in the morning. Patients who had complained of nausea and positional dizzinesss from the condition before treatment didn't have these sensations after it. They also lost their persistent insomnia, as well as headache, neurotic anguish, and ear pain.

Three fingers for tinnitus, vertigo and allergies

"There is a very simple technique you can use on yourself that can quickly relieve tinnitus, vertigo (dizziness) and, in may cases, allergy symptoms.

"The key to the technique lies in your anatomy. Your armpit appears hollow when you lift your arm because there is a front muscle (Pectoralis Major) and a back muscle (Teres Major) forming the borders of the armpit. This front muscle holds a collection of lymphatic drainage points for the entire upper side of the body.

"Lets say that you have tinnitus in your right ear. Take your left hand, reach across your chest and curl your first three fingers around the right front armpit muscle. Your index finger should be snug against the inner arm. Press in very lightly and hold. Soon you'll begin to feel a faint pulse in your index finger. As the fluid begins to drain, you'll feel the pulse in all three fingers as the flow increases. Lightly press the tips of your middle and ring fingers into center of armpit. You'll feel more pulses.

"The first thing you'll notice is that your left nostril starts to clear and it frequently "pops open." Sinus pressure is relieved. With ear congestion, you'll feel or hear bubbling or crackling in your right ear. Continue on. As the swelling drains from in and around your ear, the tinnitus stops, the vertigo lifts, and the pain and pressure clears. Your ear "pops," sometimes for the first time in years. If you keep going, it will feel like the right side of your face is deflating... and it is. Now do the other side. Take a deep breath through your nose. How are your allergies?

"If you've had swelling in your right hand, that's gone too. Notice how easily you can remove your rings after you're done. If you had upper back pain, how's that now? It drains the lungs too. How's your asthma?

"Precautions: In pressing these points you are draining accumulated lymphatic fluid from around the cells and returning it to your venous circulation. With many people, this fluid has been stagnant and accumulating for years. In other words, you are draining murky swamp water. While draining your fluid, you may detect funny smells or funny chemical tastes briefly as these toxins drain out. If too much of this swamp water gets into your circulation too fast, it may trigger a healing crisis by overloading your system. If you try this in little bite-sized sessions, you can prevent an overload.

"The lymphatic circulatory system plays a big role in your immune system. Normally the fluid slowly flows through the lymphatic glands which filter the fluid before passing it on. If the fluid contains bacteria, cancer cells, or any other bad things for your immune system to address, it happens in these glands. This drainage technique opens those glands and lets everything flow through. Which means that if you have an infection or a cancer... don't do this.

"Be patient. Sometimes if you're really clogged up, it may take a while to get going. Also, it's best to do this at home... and not at bedtime. Your kidneys will be very busy afterward and having a nearby bathroom is a must!"

"How many times and for how long do you have to do this treatment? Are there other treatments like this?"

"It may take a few minutes to get the flow going. Once the drainage starts, you continue until you have improvement. It usually takes less than 10 minutes on each side to clear allergies. Since tinnitus and vertigo are usually one-sided, it's less than ten minutes until you get relief.

Zeolite

Over the past year I have suffered with tinnitis. It was very discouraging to be told by my naturepath that no one knows how to cure this! I believe my tinnitis was caused largely by hormonal disturbances. It is a symptom of early menopause. Tinnitis is also a symptom of heavy metal toxicity.

The problem was extremely annoying and made it difficult for me to concentrate or fall asleep. The sound was very high pitched.

Well, I always keep trying no matter what and I have another friend who recommended zeolite drops. Zeolite is a volcanic mineral that has a honeycomb structure. It has a charge that attracts heavy metals to it. It surrounds the particle and the body passes it out.

I used one bottle of the drops for about a month and it helped tremendously. My tinnitis disappeared to the point I forgot I had it. After I ran out of the drops, though, it came back again slightly. Not nearly as bad, though. I do plan to get more of this product. It's the only thing I've found that really helps.

Vitamin A

Hi EarthClinic!

I read somewhere that tinnitus is a symptom of pre-menopause. I cannot find where I read that but I began taking vitamin a to combat the problem because the same literature suggested it. It helped a lot. Recently, though, I forgot about taking vitamin a...and that it was a remedy for tinnitus...and the ringing is back in my ears! It's really an awful and annoying problem.

I started retaking vitamin a and am really hoping it relieves me of this problem again. It seemed to work before so I thought I would share it here as there is little information on EC about tinnitus. I did look up herbal remedies on a site where I sometimes buy supplements and it did say vitamin a is one possible treatment.

BTW, EarthClinic, the new website looks great! Very professional!
Thanks!
