My husband is 68 and had a terrible case of shingles on one side of his head and around his eye. He started getting the worst BURNING (like fire) on that side that would last about a minute. He would run into the bathroom and splash water on it with no relief. It happened once a day and then twice a day. After research, I applied 2 drops of Frankincense oil, 2 drops Peppermint oil and 2 drops of Glove Bud oil in Argan carrier oil 3 times a day (away from eye). Since the very first application he has not had one episode. Truly amazing. Glory to God.

DMSO and Castor Oil

After the case of shingles I had on my lower back and belly had dried up, I used 50/50 DMSO and Castor oil concoction painted onto to the healing skin. I used a soft, fluffy long haired oil-painting brush, an artists brush, so as not to irritate the skin. It does sting a bit for a a few minutes, but feels good after that. Now that I'm well over the shingles, my skin still sometimes itches and might sting just a tiny bit and so I still put the 50-50 DMSO and castor oil concoction on it only now, I use a bathing brush with a long handle it it's much stiffer, but it feels really good on the skin now.

Hello Sandra,

FYI

There is another cause for the unusual "chronic" shingles cases showing up throughout the US.

There is an odd "shingles" presentation that has become more common in the U.S. which involves TWO CONCURRENT INFECTIONS that look similar though, are quite different if one really examines the lesions. Both are "VERY" painful.

The "causative" infection is "parasitic" and looks like shingles with red, raised, itchy and painful bumps with consistent "debris" coming out. This infection is often located near the spine and triggers shingles.

This parasitic infection can last a long time if not addressed with medications &/or herbals that force the organisms to the skin surface and out of the body. Also, topicals (e.g., drawing agents) are often used during oral systemic treatment to speed resolution such as a simple hot wet salt & turpentine pack.

The actual shingles infection clears up before the parasitic shingles-like infection.

I know of at least 3 people and family members that have had these infections, occurring at the same time. The infections started after using various oral &/or topical antiparasitic/insecticidal medications and/or herbals that forced the "organisms" out which triggered shingles since the infection(s) involved the spine.

The "causative" parasitic infection(s) most often involves an arthropod(s).

I hope you find answers and healing soon.

Sherri

Hi Sandra,

Shingles is considered an opportunistic infection because it is normally dormant, but it can activate when the immune system is compromised by age, medications or disease such as HIV. You didn't mention your age, but that may be relevant regarding shingles. Many doctors recommend getting a shingles vaccine for seniors or for people who are taking medications that weaken the immune system or have diseases that compromise the immune system.

You may be interested in the following topical :

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/shingles2.html#aspirin

You can also consider using Lysine orally to degrade the virus itself. General recommendations for Lysine are 3000 mg total per day in three divided doses of 1000 mg each dose.

Organic Cacao

I've had 3 shingles outbreaks in 8 years the first two lasted a couple weeks and just went away no problem. In October I developed what I thought was a patch of dry skin on my ankle so I used Aloe & Eucerin on it. Being leave season I was very busy and didn't pay much attention until the itching started which oddly was a couple weeks in.

Since this outbreak was on the right side of my right ankle I couldn't get a close look at it so I used an Otoscope projected on my tablet to get a closer look. That's when I saw pustules and it hit me "ah crap I got Shingles". By then the area was rubbed raw and hurt like the dickens and super itchy. It's now January and these shingles aren't getting better and Today I think I found out why. About 6 months ago I started supplementing with Organic Cacao and apparently Cacao is shingles food. So I thought I would post this on here to help out anyone who might be experiencing the same thing. Here is the results I got from Grok on the subject:

Why Cacao/Chocolate Is Often Recommended to Avoid with Shingles
Shingles outbreaks can be influenced by diet, particularly the balance of two amino acids: arginine and lysine.

Arginine can promote replication of herpes-family viruses (including varicella-zoster).
Lysine may help counteract arginine and support immune response.
Cacao (especially dark or raw varieties) and chocolate are relatively high in arginine. Many health sources advise avoiding or minimizing them during an outbreak to prevent worsening symptoms or prolonging recovery.

Here are some practical examples of foods to limit (including cacao/chocolate):

  • Chocolate (dark, milk, or raw cacao products)
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Gelatin
  • Certain grains like oats

Instead, focus on lysine-rich foods (e.g., dairy, fish, eggs, and certain meats) and immune-supporting nutrients like vitamins C, E, zinc, and B12.

My husband had a terrible outbreak of shingles. Thank you, Earth Clinic! He took 3,000 mg of Lysine per day and 2500 mg soy lechitin twice a day. Dried up in 3 days. Then he cut back on the dosage for a week. I think both supplements were important. I saw the soy Lechitin on a different post. It worked too.

I would be careful using tahini paste with herpes zoster outbreak as the arginine content could exacerbate the shingles rather than heal it.

St. John's Wort

St. John's wort helped with my shingles. Within 30 minutes of applying St. John's wort oil to the rash, the area was lighter and less red. When the virus was active, my progression started with redness, followed by itching, followed by a rash. I started applying St. John's wort to every new red area that appeared and it would fade within 20 minutes without a rash developing there. I used the oil initially and switched to the tincture once I located some. I also took a few drops of the tincture (1 drop 4x/day building to 5 drops 4x/day) for 10 days.

For postherpetic neuralgia, I mix castor oil (1-2 TB) with cayenne pepper (1/8 tsp) and apply it to the sensitive area. It is messy but it is helping.

A few years ago I had a dental implant, and it caused shingles for the first time. It was a Friday afternoon and my doc had left the office. His nurse asked me what anti inflammatories I had at home and I replied Turmeric. She told me to load up so I took 2Kmg every hours for 3 hours. When I had finished I notice the terrible pain on my scalp subside and by the next morning, the pain was gone. On Monday I saw the doc and he only found one small blister that was almost healed. Now I am using turmeric for sciatica and it's wonderful. My pain is almost gone along with my foot arthritis, toes fungus. Great stuff.

L-Lysine

I came across this cure for shingles on Reddit….when I had my second bout of shingles-first one was before getting the Shingrix (2 dose) vaccine, second and third times were after.

The second time was close to a holiday weekend…and I didn't have time to go to my doctor….so started searching the internet. The writer said to take 3000 mg of Lysine a day and in three days the itching would be gone, (she had several people's stories so I ran to the grocery and got L-lysine, started taking immediately, but thought I would start slow…and take 2000 mg a day to start (spaced out). In two days the itching stopped (it was on the back of my neck -originally thought it was an infected mosquito bite-but started moving into my hairline-made it hard to sleep). I took 3000 mg (1000mg 3x day) for the next week, and the redness went away.

The third time (again, after a high stress event) I felt a pimple on the back of my neck (husband confirmed redness moving into hairline) so started taking 3000mg a day, within a couple days was resolving. I think I took it for about a week.

Telling everyone I know about this…husband's cousin said she has always used it for cold sores…takes it the minute she feels the tingling, and it goes away without breaking out.

Neem Oil

Re Shingles

I use Neem Oil on the rash lesions a few times a day. I also take the Tea and the Leaf Extract. Neem is an antiviral and antibacterial, but it should not be used long term if you wish to become pregnant. It's also a spermicide if used long term. Neem tastes very, very bitter. Occasionally, honey helps, but you can get used to the taste.

The oil on the lesions or rash helps immediately. Pain is reduced, and sometimes itching remains, but to avoid scratching, I put more Neem oil on. I also use diluted magnesium oil but creme would do, to calmtbe nerves, this helps alot. Fluey symptoms are helped with Neem also. I take High doses of Vit C and Lysine as well along with Zinc and D.

I'm still on the 1st day, smallish outbreak managed with the above. I'll follow up soon.

Ps Teds Archive is helpful too.

Shingles: Dr Carey an MD stated in his book on 12 Tissue Salts( minerals) Kali mur is the cure for shingles. This is potassium chloride 6X homeopathic potency.

Some take the 6X and after using a full bottle go up to 12X. One potency can work for one person but another may need a higher potency.
It's a good idea in my view to take Bioplasma by Hylands each day as each small tablet contains a part of all the 12 essential body minerals in homeopathic form. It's a wonderful remedy.
l told an exhausted engineer about BP and he obtained a bottle. It helped him with stress and mental fatigue so he told another engineer.
He later told me ‘l walk past all these engineers now and each has a bottle on their drawing boards! ' They found it helped them with mental and physical fatigue!

How To Avoid Shingles

Hi Marsh,

Wow, that sounds dreadful.

In her shoes I think I would try 1, 000 mg of liposomal vitamin C three times a day. It is much more absorbable than regular C. Sublingual b-12 may be helpful, too.

Does she have Trigeminal Neuralgia? Or it is just that shingles are affecting that nerve? Mullein Root Tincture (Beneficial Botanicals sells it) is a less common herbal remedy but good for pain. It is an anti-inflammatory and has been use for Trigeminal Neuralgia. It is healing to nerves. Shingles affects the nerves. I think it would be worth a try.

I found that Eucalyptus essential oil was helpful for shingles. I would use it topically, with a carrier oil (coconut oil would be a good carrier.) Vicks Vapor rub has a lot of Eucalyptus and would be an option. Hopewell Essential Oils sells a couple of blends for Shingles. (If you create an account you have access to the testimonials on the site which are helpful. This is my favorite source of high quality oils.)

Other things like avoiding dairy and sugar made a difference for my kids with chicken pox, so I wouldn't be surprised if it helped Shingles as well.

Earth Clinic has a lot of information about BHT for viruses; that is something else to look into.

I hope your friend finds something very helpful soon. Let me know how she does.

Thanks "Mama". Your recommendations on board! What's your thought on this: My girlfriend awoke with shingles 3 weeks ago. It's been brutal - excruciting pain along her Trigeminal nerve, 3 ER visits (she's been there since 6am today), Gabapentin, botox injected into her scalp, a host of other scary drugs that have helped for a day or two. I'm wondering if the fillers and botox she injects herself with frequently could be part of the problem, or one of her 3 facelifts. Her painful episodes are enough to almost sign up for Shingrex.

I would not. Vaccines are loaded with toxins, mercury being the worst. Instead be prepared to take colloidal silver and iodine for infection.

Acupuncture
Posted by Marsh (Colorado) on 04/09/2024

I just read a blog by an acupuncturist who had shingles. He recommended moxibustion, Neem creme (Theraneem) for the postherpetic pain (neem surrounds the virus, prevents it from entering and infecting cells, kratom (mitragyna speciosa) for pain relief - it's an anti-inflammatory - he believes it helps in the healing over gabapentin which has many side effects. (Acupuncture and many of the herbs on EC didn't help his pain. Unfortunately, what works for one, doesn't work for another.)

Shingles visited my RN girlfriend last week. The ER doc gave her 50mg gabapentin - a high dose that she wasn't comfortable with and questioned. She said it helped. So far no side effects.

I spoke to my Rife practitioner who said Rife kills the virus. An RN friend left western medicine and began on a holistic journey. She introduced me to Rife and we both swear by it for just about everything.

As a sidenote, our babbling, happy grandson went blank 3 days after a vaccine; the babbling turn into a high pitched, shrilled singing. Rife helped along with high quality Omegas and B vitamins. He still has some autistic tendencies but is no where near what he was.

Yesterday, a friend was saying 3 out of her 5 grandkids have autistic tendencies - from minimal symptoms to full on. Why, are our babies and toddlers suffering from autism??? No one can tell me it's not the vaccs after witnessing our grandson's immediate change. When are parents and grandparents going to stand up? Sorry... I get so angry at being told vaccs are safe and mandatory, only to see the number of autistic rates increase exponentially. God Bless our children

Zostavax Vaccine
Posted by Marsh (Colorado) on 04/09/2024

My husband is wanting us to get the shingles vaccine. After some research, I read the Zostavas vaccine is no longer available in the US (it had approximately a 50% success rate). The article recommended not getting the vaccine if you've never had chickenpox (a blood test can check your immunity); if the blood test is negative, the varicella vaccine is recommended instead. Those with a weakened immune system that compromises the immune system should avoid it.

Still, I'm vascillating (I've had a compromised immune system and am GF). I never had pox as a child (was a baby when 2 older siblings bro ut it home from school). Thoughts from contributors and readers?

I got shingles a few weeks ago. Initially, I thought the pain was residual from a back spasm I had in the same area, but when it didn't resolve, I took a look and sure enough there was the rash. I got on the antiviral, but had known from this wonderful site that ACV would help with the burning and itching. I dabbed it on with a cotton ball and sprayed it on my back where I couldn't reach it. Instantly the burning subsided! The next stage is the nerve pain which I still had deeply after the rash had cleared. I had also learned from this site that Cayenne pepper mixed with aloe lotion Would help. After days of hoping the pain would resolve on its own I decided to try it. The first application didn't make much difference, but the second and third did. In fact, after the third application, the pain was completely gone! So easy and so worth it . Thank you Earth clinic!

How To Avoid Shingles

Make sure it is indeed shingles. Shingles is often the first manifestation of an internal malignancy. Not always, but often. How to keep not getting shingles comes to figuring out why she has shingles. Full blood work is a starter. There are specific markers that indicate some serious things are underneath. Ruling out malignancy is the first step. Young people get turbo cancers these days.

Shingles shot for a young person who already has shingles is a recipe for a bigger disaster

So start with blood work Just google what blood markers indicate potential cancer and do the lab work. Keep in mind her doctor must disagree or dismiss, you can do it yourself these days.
Everyone these days must have a stool test for colon cancer, it is cheap March is a colon cancer awareness month, they offer a discount. Do it annually. A family friend, a young mom has recently died, she had stage 4

If your young relative is cleared from malignancies, test her for viruses, citomegalovirus, hpylori, Epstein Barr..

Meantime I'd recommend Cats Claw supplement, L-lysine +high dose vitamin C and Arsenic Album - a homeopathic remedy I learned about here. I get shingles like rash from time to time and I start this protocol and it really works for me. I also add a trace ( not a drop) of antiviral medicinal quality essential oils to a base oil and apply externally. Young living essential oils and Alma ( former Floracopeia) is where I buy directly. Can't guarantee for other companies. Never buy on Amazon.

Do all blood work before starting the supplements

And check the shingles section here on EC site.

For viral infections: lysine 500 mg twice a day plus

iodine 12.5 mg once a day

Take the lysine and iodine until viral symptoms disappear. Then take both iodine and lysine for three additional weeks.

Limit intake of coffee while on the above protocol.

How To Avoid Shingles

Hi Marsh,

I had chicken pox as a child and have been exposed to it several times when my kids and grandkids have had it. I have not had a shingles shot. I have had shingles twice, both unrelated to when I was around those with chicken pox or shingles. The one connection I made to the shingles flares was stress.

Whether stress was what made me vulnerable or a reduced immune response due to stress made me vulnerable, I know not.

But if I was concerned about getting shingles I would do all I could to reduce stress.

  • Try to get adequate and good sleep. Melatonin at bedtime may help, and as it has anti-viral properties, it may be preventative to shingles. I take 20mg every night.
  • Take Vitamin C - 1000 mg 3-5 times a day (through out the day), unless your bowel cannot tolerate it.
  • Vitamin D and Zinc both support immunity.
  • Use unprocessed coconut oil in cooking as it is an anti-viral.
  • Get a bit of exercise daily if you can. I have been doing indoor walking videos lately - a fun way to get in some cardio.

I hope you are spared! If not though, I did find that a salve with Eucalyptus topically and vitamin C internally helped me a lot when I had shingles.

Our young daughter-in-law just came down with painful shingles. I've forwarded your recommendations (prayers she puts some to use). I've been hesitant to have the shingles shot due to low immunity. Are there any suggestions to KEEP FROM getting shingles? My mom said that as an infant, my older sister and brother brought chicken pox home from school, but I never had any symptoms/rash/blisters. She even took me to the doctor to make sure!

Sweet Wormwood, Wild Lettuce Leaf

Sweet Wormwood Capsules for Shingles and Wild Lettuce Leaf for pain

I'll explain below why I even thought to do this. I'm taking Sweet Wormwood Capsules, 425 mg, two every four hours. I'm just taking an inexpensive brand (Swanson Full Spectrum). I wish I could paste a picture to show you how quickly this is working. It's amazing. In three days, it's 70% gone.

For the pain, I took Wild Lettuce Leaf Extract, 1 capsule every four hours. I use Zanzee Wild Lettuce Leaf Extract, 500 mg. It works better than Opioids, does not make you drowsy, and is non-addictive.

On Tuesday evening, I thought I had gotten bitten by some bug. I had what looked like a cluster of bites. I was itching like crazy. By Friday it kept getting worse and was now burning quite painfully and itching like crazy. Went to Urgent care and was told it wasn't bug bites, but Shingles.

They prescribed the Antiviral Valacyclovir HCL and told me they don't know if it will help but its the best they have to offer. I filled the prescription but it said it can make you dizzy and not to drive. I have to see clients and didn't want that in my system. So, I thought, "What might I have in my arsenal to help?"

I used to be a Federal Investigator for the Bureau of Drugs, New Drug Investigations. When COVID hit, I researched to find a Bioidentical herb for HydroxyClor** because that drug seemed to be super effective, and then they banned it from use. In the 70's, Dr. Tu You You got the Nobel Peace Prize for finding that Sweet Wormwood was as effective against Malaria as HydroxyC. I actually found studies and articles where WHO/CDC was recommending that people in high-malaria areas not drink Dr. Tu You You's recommendation of sweet wormwood tea because if they might/possibly/could/we're supposing need HydroxyCl, the sweet wormwood might/possibly/could/we're supposing make them resistant to it. In other words, they wouldn't make money. The wormwood dropped the cases of malaria by 80% and if someone needed HydroxyCl, it did not prohibit its effectiveness.

So we stored up on Sweet Wormwood. Every time someone we know got COVID, we told them about Sweet Wormwood. Within 24/48 hours, their symptoms were gone. We stopped counting after 70 some-odd cases. My sister-in-law actually had to sneak some into the hospital when her husband was admitted because he refused to take Remdesivir and they were giving him nothing, just monitoring him as he declined. In 24 hours, he went from dying to going home. We recommend taking 2 every four hours while symptoms are evident and then 1 three times a day for two more weeks.

So that is what got me thinking that if Shingles is also a virus, why not try it? What do I have to lose, except for a few more days of discomfort? I'm SO impressed at how quickly this is working. Friday I was burning/pain/itching so bad I went to Urgent Care. Saturday, there was a negligible amount of pain/no itch. Today, I don't even notice it's there unless I'm writing about it (hahahaha).
