Exercise and Stretching

Sciatica: Using a Precor stretch trainer does wonders for me. These seem to be available at many gyms including the YMCA. Too much sitting causes flare-ups for me. Getting regular exercise and stretching allows me to do my work (which is sedentary) without pain. My pain used to be so bad that doctors prescribed painkillers. As long as I stretch and exercise regularly, I find that I am pain free.

Made a concoction for Sciatica that has sidelined me for 8 days. I have been in and out of the Hot Bath using Dead Sea Salt, which helped in the Bath, but didn't last... Have dealt with Nerves feeling like there is a constant mini Football bulge in my Hamstring or Calf, just seemed like a huge knot... I figured WHY NOT... So I did...
TSP Ginger
TSP Turmeric
TSP Cinnamon
TBSP Honey
In Boiling water... Downed it and for the first time, don't have a NEED to get in the Hot Bath... The Nerve Stinging is down 75%,
My Legs and Butt still hurt wickedly because of all the gimping around I have had to do for 8 days, but it's more like I had a heavy day in the Gym yesterday and I'm paying for it.
Too early of course, but if THAT impacts Inflammation that fast, being that all 4 are Anti-Inflammatory, I will be drinking that maybe twice a day forever, whether I feel like I need it or not... I'm not even thinking about the Hundreds of other benefits to the 4.
And it tastes good... Need the Honey to combat the Turmeric, but it's all good

I had bad sciatica pain years ago but the thing that cured me instantly was drinking water. I read online that anything to do with disc pain is dehydration...a bell went off....I went straight to the water tap and never had it again. The reason I got it was I was on a colon cleanse that pulled too much water...didn't drink extra as they recommend. you should be drinking half your body weight in ounces or you are dehydrated like 75% of the population.
You may fix everything that's wrong!!!

Hi Heidi (USA), Karen (Western Australia), DiDi (Oregon) –
Olivia hasn't responded to your queries yet but I bought a book about 15 years ago called Conquering Pain – The Art of Healing with Biomagnetism.
It sounds like the book Olivia referred to on May 19,2023.
Here is information on sciatica from the website of BiomagScience (biomagscience.net). For the record, I am not affiliated in any way with this company.
https://biomagscience.net/sciatica-pain-free-finally-sleeping-increased-circulation/
Here is their FAQ page:

There are contraindications for using magnets. Don't use if you are pregnant. Do not use near pacemakers, defibrillators or electrical implants.
As a disclaimer, they recommend that you use magnets as an adjunct to treatment advised by your physician.
Always do your own research.
You might find some helpful tips on magnets here:

That's strange. You can find it on amazon and many other health supplement websites. I use "Doctor Best" brand because it is lowest cost. Maybe outside the US, it could be a problem. You look at the back label to determine it's from Biocell.
If it works, please post information on other sites. Sciatica is a very terrible thing to permanently have. Or a nightmare if it is severe.

Mild sciatica vs Severe/Chronic sciatica
I think this is important for Earth Clinic to talk about upfront.
My guess is that most of the cures listed are for mild sciatica.
Medical study on sciatica concluded that the root cause of 90 percent of sciatica is caused by some degree of herniated disc. They are LESS likely to see mild cases.
This brings into question many of the cures. The only mechanism of action is through some inflammation touching a nerve.
Most mild herniated discs will resolve on its own, especially in healthier younger people, through self-healing.
For more serious sciatica, one needs to use something similar to Doctors best formulation of hyaluronic acid that also includes collagen and chondroitin. The degeneration of the disc gel that cushions the disc is most likely to cause misalignment, hence the nerves can come into contact within the spinal column. This will cause a more chronic or severe form of sciatic.
If one is much older, regeneration of the spinal gel is less likely, unlike in younger people. I've had the more milder forms of sciatica in my younger days.
One needs to categorize the cures into whether they are for mild/chronic-severe-older-age.

The one thing that has helped me is yoga. Find yourself a gentle flow yoga class. Learn enough to do the positions by yourself. Focus on your legs, hip and back. Also, hopefully the yoga teacher will show you how to breathe to relax those muscles and give you inner heat. A foam roller also helps. Look at youtube videos on how to use it. Another device I use is a "chirp" wheel (google it) It straightens my back and gives a great massage(you want your blood flowing). Oh, one more thing I have used and it helped greatly is the Hip Hook (google it) Don't sit still, move everyday! I have been pain free for over 2 years now and I know it is because I engage and strengthen my muscles. I feel your pain, it;s horrible! Good luck!!

I think the shoe method works because you are getting pressure off the sciatic nerve and getting the spine into better alignment. Sitting cross-legged sometimes helps with this, too.

HI U LIVEFREE, , , , , , , , , guess I'm a broken record and sorry to dominate the scene, but again, Ozone will solve your problem. Like I keep telling folks, spend time on Dr Shallenbergers video teaching site and you will learn wonders.
I have been down this trail all my adult life with Sciatica and most times it was due to emotional stress. I once had a 5' 2" boss who was the poster boy for the song " Short People". Click and listen to the words.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sX6I2NrguAs
When I got into a meeting with him, my muscles would tighten and pull my spine out of line. The problem went away when he fired me after our O.K. Corral episode.
I had always wanted to experience a firing and and being bitten by a snake. I have been down both trails, and am now caught up. I don't need more.
Don't think there is a chemical solution to Sciatica. Think it is a spine misalignment due to emotional or physical stress. But what do I know at my young age?

The only time I get sciatica is after emotional stress. Unexpressed emotion flows into the body and lands in the sciatic nerve. It get handled by my chiropractor who practices what's called "network chiropractics". This means he works on the body's neurological network... Applying gentle pressure to release trapped emotion from the nerve. A couple of sessions usually gets the job done.

Try the separately or together in a day to find out what works best or keep taking them all.

Potassium or sodium supplements won't help unless the pain is caused from a deficiency of one of those. Ginger (and a lot of herbals) have anti-inflammatory properties. That means they might help with pain like sciatica (caused by back issues or muscle spasms) and arthritis.
Vitamin C

Blackstrap Molasses
Posted by Marykaylady (Tempe, Az, Usa) on 01/18/2011
★★★★☆
You are right on about this being from a potassium deficiency. Some drugs like Metformin or Lisinipril cause a potassium deficiency then we get sciatica pain. Molasses is high in potassium and it is easier than all the others to incorporate into one's diet daily but you didn't say how much you take? I will probably do this remedy because it is so easy and quick to take.
I was eating avocado, peanuts, potatoes, lima's, apricots and pears and a lot of other things that have potassium but the avocado gave me more relief than anything within 1 hour--(1 whole avocado). Also B Complex.... Like breads and Brewers yeast etc. Brewers yeast is the best one in the B's. So for me it is potassium and B complex. These are the two that I work on. May my prayers be with all sciatica pain sufferers. By the way Ibuprofin 800 mg is the only thing that will eliminate the pain completely temporarily while nothing else really will. Icy Hot spray and stick (both) work pretty good. I use them both at the same time.... Spray and then stick. I also take baths with Epsom and Lavender, I buy it at Walgreens in a bag. I get the water very hot or sit in it before the tub fills up because I want it very hot. Then when I am done I drain the tub and turn on the cold water. So it is a hot and cold bath... This works for me. I think that is about my take on this mess and I just wonder if I will ever! Get rid of this without surgery. Anyone ever used a Ten's unit? JO in Phoenix

The first thing I tried from your site was ginger for sciatica. It has helped get rid of the pain immensely, but not quite gotten rid of it.
I am also taking apple cider vinegar for my high blood pressure. I feel immensely better, but it's too soon for me to say that it's the answer for me. I was prescribed generic (this may be a lot of the problem) Lisinopril which triggered the sciatica for the first time in my life and initially raised my blood pressure! It's been a living you know what for three months.
My next foray for sciatica is Epsom Salts. I usually have it but, of course, am out right now. Wouldn't it be something if that finally got rid of this beast!

Cold Showers

I read about the cold showers here 3 days ago. I have experienced whole body pain for as long as I can remember. Recently it has become unbearable to try and sleep without double doses of over the counter pain killers. The legs throbbed, prickley needles in the soles of the feet, leg muscle pain, skin pain, hip pain, numbness in the shin area. It was building up for years. I was ready to check myself in somewhere but I do not go to doctors. Anyway to continue. After reading the messages, I went and took a cold shower. This was the afternoon. Just before retiring I took another. This one really affected my body. Gasping and panting but not painful I stayed in the shower. For the first time since I could remember I had a peaceful night sleep. No pain in the legs at all, no numbness, no prickleys. I took three the next day with the same good results at night but with one more added strangeness. My Bowel Movement turned green. Not a dark green a kackie green and I was not constipated as usual. I gathered my bile was flowing. I had come to think I had a gallblader problem years ago but never associated the whole body aches with it. There might be some siatic nerve situation involved also, but I don't know. All I do now is that this seems just short of a miracle for me. I certainly hope it continues, because I don't know if I ever want to take another hot bath again as long as I live. Oh, the energy and high spirits are there too as others reported. Bless you all.

Since discectomy/laminectomy procedure 1994 I have suffered terribly with back pain. Mainly now I am suffering with severe sciatic pain. I so wish this website was available to me in 1994. I feel sure I could have cured myself. Unfortunately I trusted the butcher who told me I needed surgery. My disc only showed a slight bulge. These butchers will tell you anything to make some money. Never again will I trust the opinion of a back surgeon. Just wondered if you could share which vitamin C you used to cure your back pain? Taking that amount of vitamin C would surely cause stomach problems? Apparently with normal vitamin C tablets you only absorb about 12%. I've just purchased some vitamin C. It takes sixteen 500mg Vitamin C tablets to equal just one of my 1000mg Vitamin C packets. The technology works so you absorb between 95-98%. I've only been using it a few days and will let you know if it works. Good luck to everyone on this site.

You are correct to ask what type of Vitamin C to mega dose with. I almost called 911 when I mega dosed with "L-ascorbic acid or L-ascorbate" Vitamin C.
It's much safer to mega dose with "Calcium Ascorbate" Powder Vitamin C. Especially if one suffers from IBS, Crohns, intestinal or stomach problems.
Having said that, keep in mind that it's calcium rich & could lead to other problems, IF mega dosing for extremely long periods of time. Perhaps Magnesium would off set the calcium mega dose.
Then there is "Sodium Ascorbate" Vitamin C. (I have not tried this one). It's sodium rich which also could lead to problems, IF mega dosing for extremely long periods of time.
Either way, both the Calcium & Sodium Ascorbate are much easier on the stomach & intestines.
Talk to your local health food store to confirm.

Thank you Namiyah from Westport, OR so much for the magnesium oil with vit E in rollon remmendation. I'm adding that to my list of remedies. I MUST TELL YOU ALL, I "tentatively" testify that I DO BELIEVE the ginger, both ground and raw, I've been taking since night before last is HELPING me. I have slept through most of the night the last two nights which is first for me in months, and though I did wake once or twice with horrific pain, that's usual,
that first night I began the ginger I didn't wake with severe pain last night.
Last night before bed I spent about a half hour, 1. Rubbing my L's and lower S's and the entire siatic nerve path down leg to just below the knee where the pain ends, with cream methyl silicylate 17% with menthol USP 12% (probably 12-15 min. ),
2. Doing the exercises recommended on this site where you cross your ankle over knee then pull knee toward opposite shoulder and hold 20 or 30 seconds; doing both sides. This feels GREAT and I highly recommend for anyone not just siatic sufferers. I also did this as recommended every time I sat down yesterday and again today.
3. I also developed and performed other joint stretches in lower back and hip joints I thought would help, I did them GENTLY. Be careful.
4. I increased my B12 intake to 2000 mg morning, and an additional B12 2000 mb at evening (began the increase last night). B12 was reported on the Earthclinic under the siatica site to have cured someone's siatica.
5. The last thing I did was take about a half teaspoon of ground ginger in a finger of water before bed along with 800 mg ibuprophen. I had taken the ground or raw every three or four hrs during the day.
I don't like taking ibuporphen so will probably not take it tonight. Hoping for at least similar experience of last night.
Still awaiting the sacral wedge I ordered.
Will continue to report back. Thank you all so much for input.
