Supplements
Posted by Florida Man (USA) on 01/13/2024

Hi, I've been taking these supplements lately:

  • Kirkland Organic Multivitamin
  • Apple Cider Vinegar/Manuka Honey
  • Black Seed Oil
  • Vitamin K2 100MCG MK-7
  • Physicians Choice Thin 30 Probiotic
  • Moringa
  • Baking Soda Capsules
  • Cayenne Complex (Extract)
  • Ashitaba
  • Sea Moss + Bladderwrack
  • Quercetin
  • Cranberry Concentrate
  • Apricot Extract
  • Maca Root
  • Korean Ginseng
  • Ginko Biloba

I'm taking these for various reasons, mostly preventative, to keep blood sugar/pressure regulated, keep kidneys healthy (some relatives having kidney issues had me paranoid and increased awareness of the fragility of them, plus the stats on people with kidney disease), The bladderwrack for bladder repair for years of kratom use (peeing very often). Quercetin for immune system support, which has helped me not get sick.

I have a few questions

1. Do any of these counteract each other?

The reason I'm making this post is because recently after eating my blood sugar has gotten too low (a bit of dizzyness), I tested it 15 min after eating dinner and dessert and it was 115.

A lot of these have the same effect of lowering blood sugar, so it seems to have gotten too low after eating by taking all of these

2. Which ones should I cut out if I had to?

Thanks

Soleus Pushup
Posted by Cindy (Illinois, USA) on 02/23/2023 554 posts

I've ben doing the soleus pushups for a couple of days and I have to tell you that, this morning, though my legs feel super good, they also feel like I ran 5 miles. The pushups are still super easy and the soleus doesn't have that good "worked out" feeling, at all, but it seems ALL of the other leg muscles DO! Which is awesome and extremely interesting. The soleus muscle simply doesn't appear to fatigue like a regular muscle...despite the very real probability that it's very seldom been flexed for 65 years! It's quite fascinating! And if it is strengthening the rest of the leg, even MORE awesome than it first appeared!

Ted's Alkalizing Remedies
Posted by Charity (Faithville, Us) on 12/31/2020

I was just reading Ted under type one diabetes and he says ginger and L- threonine are important for kidneys, I use both most days. L threonine has an R in it. I had a hard time realizing that theonine and threonine are very different, because I had a hard time locating threonine. I thought people were just misspelling the word. I found it online Bulk brand. Coconut oil cold pressed is also amazing for kidneys and liver health.

Also, chanca piedra is nicknamed stonebreaker and also helps with kidney health.

Beets and blueberry beet juice, used to lower blood pressure spikes. Helps greatly!

Honey
Posted by Cjuan (Malaysia) on 05/21/2016

I suppose each person reacts differently to honey. Many years ago, it used to spike my BG too but recently I found that it could actually lower my BG, so I am truly puzzled.

Perhaps the type of honey consumed could be the causative factor. By that I mean whether the honey is raw, wild/organic and unprocessed compared to processed honey where the heat-sensitive enzymes get destroyed. Bear in mind too that there are fake honeys around too - those made from sugar water and corn syrup, so these may be the actual culprit causing the spike in BG instead of lowering it.

Diabetics can always test them out for themselves rather than adopt a generalized view of the issue.

I take 2 tbs., of ACV, 1 tbs. Ceylon Cinnamon, 1 Tbs. Raw unfiltered Honey, 3x daily.

Please, can someone tell me if the dosage listed above is not too high for human consumption, especially taking 1 tbs. Ceylon Cinnamon, 3x a day? Also, won't the 1 Tbs. Raw unfiltered Honey, 3x daily hike blood ones sugar level? I need to know. Thanks

I agree with moderation of ACV. My experience with a teaspoon in about 6 oz of water before eating a meal with refined carbs: sometimes I feel like it balances the carbs and I feel fine. Sometimes I feel sleepy or sluggish after and I'm not sure if I had too many carbs for the teaspoon or if I've not had enough ACV for the carb count.

There needs to be a formula that incorporates weight, amount of carbs being consumed, and the amount of ACV needed to slow down the carb absorption (or the max carb consumption "allowed" for the max effective and/or "safe" dosage of ACV).

Does that make sense?

Your illustration is very scanty. You did not explain why you took the doses; maybe to treat type 2 diabetes. Also, we would want to know the severity of your case that made you take the much doses, how long it took to act or to stop the symptoms or cure it. Please, kindly elaborate.

Chromium Polynicotinate
Posted by Art (California ) on 03/16/2015 2684 posts

Most Niacin bound chromium supplements or chromium polynicotinate come in capsules containing 200 Mcg.

If 1,000 Mcg equals 1 Mg, it will take five 200 Mcg capsules to make 1 Mg. You are recommending 100 mg twice per day. That means it will take 500 capsules two times per day to achieve the dose you are recommending if I did the math correctly. Is this correct?

I am mainly using other nutrients for up-regulating metabolism; ALA, Magnesium Malate, CoQ10, Pantithine. One triple strength ACV daily is too much for my condition so I just take one tab occasionally. I never use the ACV liquid so I can't give any comparison, but I would recommend 1 triple strength ACV tab per day and slowly increase until desired effect.

I think the only way to know if honey raises blood sugar is to eat it and take a blood sugar reading first thing in the morning. I can't eat honey because it raises my blood sugar too high.. more so than sugar. I became pre-diabetic after adding honey to my tea. I stopped doing that and now take small amounts of organic brown sugar. My blood sugar is back to normal.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes some 2 years ago. I took prescription drugs for about 6months but stopped to depend on diet and exercise for my Blood Sugar control until I came upon this beautiful website. I call it beautiful cause it is amazingly rich with life saving informations.

I started taking 1table spoon of ACV twice a day for about 2months now and my Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) now averages at 115. I test my FBS every morning when I rise to prepare for work at about 6.00am. In addition I also test my Urine and saliva. My urine and Saliva has consistently stayed at Ph 6.0 and 6.2 respective.

Last week feeling that my body is acidic from the ph reading, I decided to alkalize by adding 1/4teaspoon of baking soda to my ACV. Suprisingly my Urine ph consistently stayed at 7.2, same as my saliva but my FBS went up and averaged at 160. I have stopped the addition of baking soda for the past three days and my FBS has returned to a healthy range. This morning I woke up with an FBS of 87 and urine ph of around 5.8

I am not able to explain the baking soda influence on my body pH and my Blood sugar. Please can someone help?

I am concerned with my pH level as I understand that it is not healthy to consistently have acid condition(I do not want to age that fast. I love my life at this time). Is there some other ways for me to alkalize fast without raising my FBS?.

God Bless you all contributors and thanks for all the beautiful work published on this website.

Peppermint Oil
Posted by John (Houston) on 11/07/2015

I now know why York Peppermint Patties lower blood sugar readings. I hated them when young, but decided to try them now because they are made with dark chocolate. I found that I now like the peppermint center, but was concerned that the sugar would increase blood glucose levels. Guess what, I ate half a bag of the mini mints and the next morning my blood glucose level was about 10 points less than the day before. I now also use Ginger in a protein drink which also seems to help. I am not on any medication for the glucose level, but just decided to monitor it. I am 70. I also ditched the flax seed oil and started the Chromium Picolinate, which I hadn't taken in years.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Kelly (Catawissa, Mo, Usa) on 10/04/2011

In response to Cheryl above. In my beginning stages of adult onset diabetes 1, I had more lows than highs. I would eat and for about an hour or two, I'd have high #'s, then crash to the lows. So I'm not so sure the lows you are having are actually attributed to the ACV. You need to be sure you have a glucometer (most drs. give them for free or u can find them online for free) and test many times troughout the day.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar - and all other acidic drinks (e.g., orange juice and lemon juice) - deactivate an enzyme, amylase, in the saliva. Amylase in the mouth splits food starches into glucose molecules, which can enter the blood stream immediately. (Amylase is also released by the pancreas and enters the small intestine later when the food finally arrives there.) The deactivation of amylase in the mouth might account for the lowering of blood sugar in individuals who drink ACV BEFORE a high-carb meal.

However, if you achieve lower blood sugar levels by taking ACV AFTER a meal, then there is obviously some other mechanism at work.

Please e-mail me and let me know.

I also experience what feels like low blood sugar attacks when I take apple cider vinegar? I know I have low blood pressure and I alot of problems with my digestion. So yes iam lacking in the proper enzymes. Iread about someone else who got bloated when they take acv. That happens to me too! As soon as I take it I hear sort of bubbely sounds from my stomache and then within minutes I bloat?!! Itook the acv for six months. Another interseting thing that happens to me when I take the acv is I get a itchy scalp and hair loss. Ihave tested this on and off and it seems to be the acv?! I believe have a bacterial over growth in my gut and I know I am too acidic. Even when I take the acv with baking soda I still get the same reaction! To the person who said there might be other mechanisms involved please let me know. IF anyone else has suggestions or comments please fill me in!

Thanks in advance!

I wish more people would be tested for H-Pylori. It's a bacteria in your stomach that causes bloating to many foods. It took twenty some yers and a very good Docter to find this out. A very simply test. I also was told I am very lactose intolerant, again a very simple test. Demand to be tested. H-Pylori is very common and much overlooked. I am diabetic too and have gone from very low numbers to high. I watch my diet like a hawk but don't know it all yet. What's high in sugar and what's not. Is natural sugar in fruit good or bad????

I'm a diabetic too. I know sugar in a simple form or in fruit still needs to be watched. There are some fuits better than others like banana is very high in sugar vs. apples. The t-tapp excerise for me has been very effective to bring the blood sugar down as well as ACV. I watched a very educational show on diabetes yesterday on Operah here is the link if you care to read it. http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Diabetes-101-with-Dr-Oz-Dr-Ian-Smith-and-Bob-Greene

I also had bloating problem. It was caused by Giardia Lamblia, a bacteria found in western states produce fields and irrigation systems. Ask your doc to do a stool check for this. Ten little yellow tablets later you'll feel great if this is the cause. I had to give up on the ACV until after the antibiotics. If I have a flare up now I eat a massive quantity of Plain Yogurt. No problems since. Good luck.

I have now cut my daily Diabeta dose of 20 mg to 10 mg, and hope to reduce my Metformin from 850 mg three times per day to 500 mg three times per day, if my next A1C (in 6 weeks) is down. Apple cider vinegar has been a prayer answered from God to stabalize the recent spikes in my blood sugar. For the past 11 years I have successfully controlled my Type 2 diabetes thru diet and supplements. About a month ago I started drinking 1-2 tbsp in a glass of water right before a meal, and I have noticed an amazing difference, with readings below 101. I feel more alive with fewer aches and pains. I am concerned about the effects on my dental health and plan to brush more frequently. But on the whole, I feel like I have been given a new outlook on life. It is very important to me to be in control of my health and keep my diabetes under control. Now with ACV, I can go on and enjoy life! God bless.

Flax Seed Oil Capsules Warning Elevated Blood Sugar
Posted by Che (Berkeley, Ca) on 02/27/2011

Diabetics have a problem because sugar overstimulates the pancreas - therefore, try to get your fuel from fats. Fats are, for humans, the perfect fuel. They burn slowly and steadily, and do not stimulate the pancreatic/liver system so that they are taken up too quickly. Humans need moderate fats, not low fats, unless the fats are themselves unhealthy or rancid. A good breakfast would be bacon, eggs, milk, and some carbs such as toast, rolls etc. Butter is great. No sugars.

(Coconut 'oil, 'by the way, is very good for you. It is a very good fat that delivers energy over a long period of time. ) I am NOT a merchant for this product or anything like that, but have used it for years.

Another big element of beating diabetes: Humans need about 0.3- 0.5 grams of protein per day, X each lb of body weight, in general. Multiply your weight in pounds times 0.4 and see what you get. I am willing to get you almost never get this much protein per day. I weigh 150 lbs, X 0.4 = 75 grams of protein I should eat every day. Do you think that's easy? Think again. If you eat meat you might get that every day. Otherwise you better eat lots of milk and cheese - soy is no substitute and has a tendency to raise estrogen levels. It is hard to get anywhere near the optimal amount of protein without overeating, if you are out, so plan accordingly and eat concentrated protein at home, like steak and hamburger, fish, protein drink, eggs, etc.

Soy is fine in small doses - can be eaten frequently but not as a substitute for better proteins, and not in large amounts.

With a moderate/high protein, moderate fat, low carb diet, some diabetes is eliminated or reduced. In all cases this is a great diabetic diet. Three of my four grandparents were diabetic, my father died of diabetes, and I have symptoms within days of eating high carbs and low protein. However, when I truly practice what I preach, I have no symptoms of diabetes whatsoever, and have lots of youthful energy, even though I am in my sixties. So - low carbs, moderate fat, moderate protein.

Hi Francisca, I used to go on a low carb website regularly and the subject of how much protein is in each particular protein food ie: eggs, meat, fish, etc. often came up. The generic answer was that if an egg weighs 65gms then that is the protein count. If you eat 30gms of cheese then 30gms is the protein count. I know it sounds odd and we would like to disect it into the real protein grams but that is the way it is done for the most part. Cheers Lily.

Thank you, Tim! I've just started taking 1000mcg of Chromium (Picolinate) in the morning. I always use coconut oil, so I'm happy to hear that's a good protocol too! I'm not sure if the Picolinate is the right Chromium, so if you have a suggestion I would really love that. I will keep you updated on progress. I'd also read that excess cortisol can be responsible for blood sugar issues, high blood pressure, etc., so I'm looking for something that will help lower that naturally too. :)

Dietary Changes
Posted by Timh (Ky) on 06/12/2016 2042 posts

RP: Yes, the picolinate form of Chromium is best, and ideally add 500mg Niacinamide or Inositolhexaniacinate (flush free forms of Niacin) with it (for best results). You can buy Cinnamon in capsules but in my case is irritating on the tummy so I take an herbal sugar-aid complex of Cinnamon/Gymnema/Mulberry which works fine.

To reduce cortisol increase anti-inflammatory foods or herbs like Pineapple, Ginger, Turmeric, and add anti-stress techniques like Meditation, Yoga, and Relaxing Music or Frequency Harmonics for the body & mind.

I am using since one week.

Result is, there is not much effect on diabetes but surely no more weakness. Diabetes is still high aroung 180 to 200 in fasting.

Hi all, I was researching about the effect of honey on blood sugar levels, I am not Diabetic but other Family members are. But that wasn't the reason for my search either it was to do with another health matter. Anyway I found this information on the Informa Health care website, and it says honey is OK for Diabetics.

So I'm posting the information below ( RAW NOT NORMAL STORE HONEY) so you can read it for yourself.

Love Andrea C xxx

At Informa Healthcare, we answer your need for fast, convenient access to high-quality, high-impact scientific research.

Effects of natural honey consumption in diabetic patients: an 8-week randomized clinical trial Objectives. We investigated the effect of natural honey on body weight and some blood biochemical indices of diabetic subjects.

Methods Forty-eight diabetic type 2 patients were randomly assigned into two groups: the honey group received oral natural honey for 8 weeks, and the control group did not take honey. Before the onset of the study (week 0) and after 8 weeks, weight measurements were taken and fasting blood samples were drawn.

Results After adjustment for the baseline values, there were no significant differences in the fasting blood sugars between the two groups. Body weight, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and triglyceride decreased (P = 0.000), and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol increased significantly (P < 0.01) in honey group. The levels of hemoglobin A1C increased significantly in this group (P < 0.01).

Conclusion The results of this study demonstrate that 8-week consumption of honey can provide beneficial effects on body weight and blood lipids of diabetic patients. However, since an increase in the hemoglobin A1C levels was observed, cautious consumption of this food by diabetic patients is recommended.

I have just begun taking ACV and wonder how long it takes to work. I am able to take 2 tbls per day. I am prediabetic and want my numbers below 6.0 Any advice would be appreciated as I don't want to have to take medication.

Thank you
