Clove Oil and Hydrogen Peroxide

For a day or two, I was feeling a slight, dull ache when I moved my upper dentures around. I had never felt this before and didn't think too much of it. When I took them out, I felt two pockets of pus in the upper gumline. They were fair sized but curiously didn't hurt. I used what I had on hand already, some ground cloves mixed with olive oil, soaked a cotton ball and applied for 20 mins, and hydrogen peroxide rinse. I'm happy to say that the infection was gone in just a few swishes and cotton ball soakings, with no side effects. Thank you, Earth Clinic. This is why I luv coming here so much!

Activated Charcoal

Charcoal works AMAZINGLY!!! Make sure it is activated charcoal.(not out of your fire pit).I have been using it for approximately 2 months, just came from the dentist and even they were like "WOW, your teeth look amazing and we can tell you really take good care of your mouth". Activated charcoal is able to pull out impurities... Helps with gum disease and brightens the teeth.

I use it with a natural toothpaste (Tom's from Maine). I have opened many capsules and put them in a pepper shaker (it's messy... Lay down papertowel). Wet your toothbrush, apply toothpaste, sprinkle with charcoal, and brush. (I suggest placing toothbrush fully in mouth and closing mouth before beginning to brush to make sure you don't breathe over charcoal on brush.... It will go everywhere if you breathe on it... Trust me... I speak from experience!!! )

If worrying about the vinegar, you can wait 10-15 mins then rinse out with water.

Dear Adam,

You should be able to grind up the charcoal tablets to use to brush your teeth. However, in the long run, it might be easier to juts get some of the powder. Also, you might check the ingredients. Some tablets have sugar in them. You might not want to be using that to brush your teeth.

Let us know how charcoal brushing goes for you!

I had oral surgery and my gums were swollen and infected . I mixed a little of 1/4 cup of my organic cold pressed olive oil , with few drops of oregano that I got the kind that is for internal use at the nauturapathic school mixed with 2 to 3 drops of dmso and left it on while I watched movie for a couple hours then then I rinsed it off and noticed a drastic change in my infected gums, I continued doing this for a few days. It was a heaven sent.

Best of luck to you, Kay, in keeping your teeth. As you are realizing, pulling them causes potentially more problems and the root (haha) issue is still not resolved.

Remineralization is replacing the decay in your teeth with healthy tooth structure again. I have never done this, but a little research on Weston Price may give you more information.

For what it's worth, I suspect most of us are suffering from severe mineral depletion, especially those of us who drink RO water regularly.

Given your age, you definitely should use the Biocell HA. Use 150 mg per day on empty stomach. Try for remaining 3 months.

Posted by Kay (Jax, Fl, Usa) on 03/11/2014

Thanks again Nanowriter for your input. I don't know if you read my other items about oil pulling. But I went to this general dentist who said the first time I went to her, "we can save your teeth" I believe with deep gum cleaning we can correct this. Her concern was the very front teeth gap which did have a 8 mm gap(now a 7). She suggested the partials or implants. I said why would I want partials to hold on to the other teeth with gum loss.

Well, I decided no one is going to pull my teeth. I am going to follow my regiment of oil pulling now I do it 2 x per day for at least 20 minutes.

The original peridontist all suggested to pull all my teeth and get complete dentures or of course "implants". Their reasoning was they could do some deep periodontal work, but the issue may come back. With false teeth, I wouldn't have to deal with this. Ofcourse, they failed to tell me my cheeks will shrink in and I will look 20 yrs older.

I chose not to follow their advice. What is de mineralizing?

Kay, thank you for feedback.

"Marketing is persuading the customer to suspend all logic". A little paraphrased, but it really made me think about a lot of my interactions with doctors and dentists, where things didn't make sense and they would just clam up when pressed for an explanation.

Maybe find another dentist who is not so eager to pull your teeth. Partials pretty much assure the destruction of your connecting teeth and tooth decay can be reversed by remineralizing your teeth.

Thank you Nanowriter and Prioris for you input regarding the dentist wanting to pull two teeth. They claimed that because I am still a "7" went from an "8" that these gums are bad shape. Ofcourse they wanted to sell me Implants or partials. Yes, I have gum loss and because of my age 60's, this seems to be a common thing.

I am taking Vitamin C, D3, oil pull with Sesame oil 2 x daily, brush with Baking Soda, rinse with Peroxide, brush with Toms of Maine toothpaste which has baking soda and bee propolis and put Aloe Gel at night. I have been doing this since October 2013. The good thing is that all the gum pockets have dropped in mm include the front area which dropped 1 mm. My feeling is to try this method for another 3 months which would give it a total of 9 months. I am due to go back to the dentist in June for cleaning. I would love for them at that time to measure again and see that shrunk more.

The dentist did tell me that I now have decay in the root of the area between the front teeth where they want to pull them. The other thing is they suggested a partial well, if my gums are receding why would I want to put pressure on other teeth to hold a partial. Makes no sense to me. Any input would be great. Earth Clinic is fantastic!

I would not accept a dentists verdict on teeth especially the gum area. Your doing everything right so far. You are addressing the microbes. That is first part. Your body is just missing some nutrient(s) to facilitate repair.

You have receding gums. It may be a collagen related problem especially if your older. If young, I'd try taking vitamin C. Have you tried Biocell Hyaluronic Acid.

I used oil pulling also and I was having good results but then I noticed that my gums were weakening probably due to my age (near 60). My gums were getting weaker and I got concerned. Biocell HA which I was using for another problem unexpectantly strengthened them. They don't even bleed like they use to. You should looked at earth clinics under receding gum also. You need to look at it from a nutrient approach.

Fight like heck to retain your teeth. Don't give up. Don't allow any dentist to put a tombstone on any of your teeth especially due to gum issues.

Posted by Nanowriter (Hotspot, Texas) on 03/06/2014

Sorry, no direct experience, but if the gum pockets on your front teeth are actually improving why does the dentist still want to pull them? I would try large amounts of vitamin C and maybe a "bone health" mineral supplement and maybe give it a six month trial to see if they keep improving--if there is no actual danger.

Oil Pulling
Posted by Kay (Jax) on 03/06/2014

Back in January 2014, I wrote of my success in oil pulling, baking soda and rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide. I since than have had deep gum scaling by a general dentist and had my teeth cleaned. Went back to dentist today and most all my gums have shrunk their deep pockets approx one mm. However, I have a bad case of Piarhea on my two front teeth which were an 8 and now are a 7. The front teeth have moved causing a large gap. Dentist told me today, I will need to pull these teeth as basically no hope. The rest of the teeth they are positive they can save as they are now at a Gingivitis level. Before I have these teeth pulled I will continue to do my oil pulling, etc. Has anyone ever had a diagnosis like this and beat the system without having teeth pulled? Just curious.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Theresa (Mpls., Mn) on 01/31/2014

Hey Megan!

I thought I would ad my two bits for you. I think the hydrogen peroxide is a fine remedy for your situation, AND you might consider brushing your teeth and gums with either a Tea Tree oil toothpaste OR tea tree oil right out of the bottle - tastes nasty but nips gingivtis in the bud quick! Also to consider is purchasing your own dental tools [tooth pick/scraper and mirror on a stick] - these are commonly available at most drugstores and are inexpensive.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Janet (Usa) on 01/31/2014

I always use hydrogen peroxide (I prefer food-grade hydrogen peroxide) as my mouthwash. Had a PhD I worked with tell me that it solved his gum problems and he avoided surgery by doing so. I was impressed and started using it myself years ago.

Would you recommend using this every day as a preventative to gym disease? I have just noticed a build up of plaque/tartar on one tooth in particular and some strange gum lines that look like the beginning of recession and am working on affording a dentist appointment but am wondering if hydrogen peroxide might be an okay preventative in the meantime...

Oil Pulling
Posted by Kay (Jax, Fl, USA) on 01/25/2014

Back in December I wrote about my gum disease. My gum pockets on the front teeth are an 8 which is really bad. It caused my two front teeth to separate causing a large gap. I back molar has a 6 and the others are basically 3, 4 and a couple of 5's.

After visiting two peridontists who told me basically to do gum surgery would cost anywhere from $5000 to $6500 than go get crowns partials, etc, we are looking at lots of money. They advised to save money, extract all the teeth($238-$250 per tooth), have Dentures costs ($2000 for traditional to $25, 000 for fancy), etc.

I started oil pulling and the difference is amazing! I decided to go to a general dentists, who said my teeth were worth saving and felt that extraction was out of the question. I did agree to their deep scaling $700. So, of course, if the gum heal, they will claim they did it, since most of the dentist never heard of Oil pulling and if they did they wouldn't suggest it, as it would be a loss of revenue for them.

Today, I am still oil pulling, brushing with Baking Soda, rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide, and brushing with a baking soda, bee propolist toothpaste. I am do to go back to the dentist in a month or so where they will measure my gums again. Should be interesting.

I have no more severe redness, which by the way, stopped before I had the gum scaling done.

Oil pulling is the answer, no doubts in my mind. I will keep this post updated.

I've had the same issues with bleeding gums for many years. Going to the dentist for a cleaning was always a bleeding experience. I always thought that blood thinners like aspirin and plavix were supporting the bleeding. I then tried 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide [H2O2]. The bleeding gums stopped completely and immediately. The very next time I used floss or dental pick, no bleeding what so ever. It has been this way for a month now.

I want to start off by saying, I do not like going to the dentist!

I have to thank, once again, this website for helping me in my battle with gum disease. After going to two different peridontist and getting quotes from $5,000 to over $6,000 for gum surgery, I decided to check out earth clinic. The first doc said, well, we do the gum surgery than you can go to the dentist get implants, crowns, etc. and I can easily spend(get into debt) of $12,000 or more. He suggested to extract all teeth and get dentures. This would cost less than $10,000 but gee no more cavities, etc. He failed to tell me how my cheek bones will sink in and I will probably age in looks. He was so caught up with extracting and putting in implants to hold dentures! This cost he quoted me didn't include the implants.

Well I came on to this website and read about oil pulling, etc. I begin. I would first thing in the morning take one tablespoon of Sesame Oil swish it around my mouth than spit it out. I started doing this 2 x per day. I also rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide.

I started a timeline. When I went to the first peridontist because my gums were inflamed and throbbed, teeth were loose, etc., as he poked checking gums, it bled a lot! By the time I went to the 2nd peridontist I had been on the oil pulling about 10 days. There was no blood when he poked at my gums! He said my gum condition was "moderate" while the first doc said "advanced". Ofcourse, these docs could have just been different.

So, I went to a family general dentist two days ago, who said that my teeth were not loose??? I did not say a word about the oil pulling. Well I have another appointment for a general consult in two weeks and X-rays will be done on each tooth. We shall see.

So, far, I can say, honestly no more throbbing of my gums, the color has changed to a lighter pink. I have spent approximately over $400 just in these visits and X-rays. I will get an estimate from the coming up consultation to see what they can do to "save my" teeth at a reasonable cost. Ha!

I can honestly say that doing the oil pulling, using bee propolis with baking soda toothpaste and rinsing with Hydrogen peroxide(3%) has helped me tremendously. I have doing this now about 3 weeks.

I would not have known about any of these alternatives if it weren't for this website. I will keep you updated on the process.

Advanced Gum Disease Remedies
Posted by Kay (Jax, Fl, Usa) on 11/20/2013

I have been reading all the posts for Gum disease. I am going out today to purchase Aloe Vera Gel and Juice and the Bee Propolis, assuming I can find it.

I have to admit I have not been the best dental patient. Have had Gingivitis off and on for years. However, now, it has advanced to beyond this stage and I recently visited a Peridentist who stated all the my teeth are loose and the gum disease is so advanced that I should have all of them extracted and wear dentures. I am over 60 yrs old and I guess he figures this is the least expensive way since I do not have any dental insurance. Has anyone on this forum been told this and found a remedy? I know there really isn't much to replace bone loss? The dentist asked me if I took meds for bone loss and I assured him I don't take many meds at all. I actually read somewhere that Chloresteral meds were bad for dental gums. I take a lot of vitamins including CQ10 and have never been a smoker. Any answers would be really appreciated. I really don't want to loose my teeth but this may happen.

Go the pharmacy to the dental hygiene section and look for interplax brushes. The come in narrow, medium and large. There are some that are replaceable and some that you throw away when you are finished with it. Buy the size depending on the space between you teeth, use it to brush between your teeth on a daily basis. My gums used to bleed and flossing did not help until I saw these brushes and began to use them. After a while my gums did not bleed and my dental hygienist said my gums were so much better. There was no bleeding when I went in for my regular cleaning in August. I use these brushes instead of flossing.

I just want to say this website is a lifesaver! I've battled Peridontal disease for years without much luck. It's painful and expensive. I've had a bad infection on the right side of my mouth and found this website. Last night I brushed my teeth with baking soda and swished with Peroxide (1 tsp. Peroxide to 2 tbsp. Water). LOL I was fascinated with the bubbling. So I woke up this morning to my alarm clock, that hasn't happened in over a month because the pain keeps me up at night. My mouth was still sensitive but the pain in my jaw and cheekbone is long gone!!! So I had read about oil pulling and decided to try that this morning and WOW is all I can say! I pulled with 100% Vegetable Oil because I wanted to see if it would really turn white and yep, it turned a milky white color and my teeth felt so clean :) I will continue this regimen until the infection is gone then I will drop rinsing with Peroxide so it doesn't do any damage to my tissue! I've read about the bee propolis but I'm not sure what to buy or exactly how to use it, so if anyone has any tips I would love to hear them!!!

Antibiotics - Natural
Posted by Mama To Many (Middle, Tennessee, USA) on 07/19/2013

Dear Kelvin, Here are some ideas for your gum/tooth disease that should not be hard to find. One time I had pain and bleeding gums (very unusual for me) and I mixed equal parts of cayenne pepper and goldenseal powder. I brushed my teeth with these a few times during the day and before bed. I was 100% better the next day. Cayenne alone might do the trick if that is all you have on hand. Or, you could mix cayenne and garlic powder as garlic is a wonderful antibiotic. This is going to be spicy and not taste great, but it is cheap and effective! Lalitha Thomas would add myrrh powder to the cayenne and goldenseal, but I didn't have that on hand when I had my gum infection. (She wrote Ten Essential Herbs, a book I love to refer to!)

Clove powder is also great for mouth infections. You could mix that with the cayenne. It also helps with the pain. Brush the teeth with whatever you do every couple of hours the first day. If you see improvement, brush every 4 hours. Keep up the brushing with the powder at least once a day after improvement for several days to prevent it from returning.

If your mouth infection is really bad, you can take 1 clove of crushed fresh garlic internally 4x a day, in addition to the brushing. This is a wonderful and very effective natural antibiotic.

Activated charcoal powder or tablets can be used for mouth infections. You can brush with the powder or you can put the tablet against the infected area.

Thyme and sage (the spices in your cabinet) can be combined, a pinch each, and put into a small bit of paper towel or coffee filter and used as a poultice against the infected area. I have used this to heal canker sores very quickly.

Drinking lots of water is helpful to flush infection out of the body. Avoiding sugar and soda at this time would probably be very helpful.

Let us know what helps you!! I hope you find relief soon.

I was searching for info re: how to stop loss of gum tissue. I have noted an acceleration of 'shrinking' gum tissue, about 3ml in past 2 yrs. My dentist confirms gums are healthy and tissue loss is "normal at my age".... 68. I am not accepting this. I do have chronic TMJ & wear night guard due to significant clinching of jaws during sleep. Could the pressure cause loss of gum tissue??

Recently discovered the OP. Currently using coconut iol, will try sesame oil next month. Thank U for any info you may share. KH

Oil Pulling

What with one thing and another I avoided the dentist for 5 years. When I finally went, I was told I had periodontal disease with pockets mainly in the 3-4 range, and a few 5s. I had the lower half of my mouth deep cleaned. For financial reasons I didn't return for the second half of my cleaning for 2 months and in the mean time I oil pulled every morning and did a number of other things as well. When I returned this afternoon I asked her to remeasure a few of my pockets. She checked the lower half of my mouth -- she didn't look at all of them but every pocket she checked had gone down a size, and a 5 had gone down to a 3. She was very pleased. I asked her to check the top (uncleaned) half of my mouth and she did, strictly to be nice, and discovered that although the gums were still inflamed, the pockets there had also gone down a size, something she characterized as very surprising.

I've done a number of things, which I'll detail, which I hope were helpful, but I mainly credit the oil pulling for this.

Oil Pulling -- swapping between sunflower and sesame when I run out of a bottle --

Vitamin C -- I've gone from never using it to 1 - 2 grams a day, more if I think of it, which I usually don't.

I made a mouthwash recipie I found on the web: 1tbspn Echinacea tincture; .5 tbspn Oregon Grape Root tincture; .25 tbspn Plantain and Propolis tincture -- combine, add a dropperful to a tbspn water, swish in your mouth 20 seconds after brushing then spit out -- I've done this intermittently.

-- Swapped out my toothpaste for a toothpowder made from 2 tbspn baking soda, and 1 tsp each: salt, myrrh, prickly ash bark, white oak bark -- all ground up in a spice grinder.

And I've been trying to drink blackberry leaf tea (good for the gums) and a tea made from White oak bark, lemon grass, and yerba santa.

Also once a day flossing of course.

I have always had pretty healthy teeth, so I was shocked one night when I was brushing and had a spot at the toothline start to bleed a good bit. It hurt there when I flossed, too. I mixed goldenseal powder and cayenne together and brushed my teeth with it a couple of times that day. (Very spicy and tasted terrible! ) The next day the gum was back to normal! I got the idea from Lalitha Thomas' book, Ten Essential Herbs, which is a super resource.

I was flossing regularly, brushing with baking soda, rinsing with peroxide but two weeks ago my gum started to bleed profusely at one particular spot. I could not understand why this was happening. Someone told me about aloe vera for gum health. I had some aloe vera gel at home and I started to brush with the gel and toothpaste for sensitive teeth. I also got a mouthwash with the aloe vera as the main ingredient and started to use that since last Friday. Today is Tuesday and the bleeding is significantly less. I also did a reasearch on aloe vera and gum health and found out that it helps to keep the mouth and gums healthy. I am going to continue to use this method for my mouth care. I have also started to drink aloe vera juice as I has many health benefits.

Until a few years ago, I never had a single problem with my teeth or gums... Then, after a particularly nasty sinus infection, I began experiencing swelling and soreness in my upper right gumline. According to my dentist, I just needed to brush well and floss regularly-both things I was already doing, and my gums have only gotten worse. For example, I used to have to work floss up into my gumline in order to clean them properly-now, I can easily fit a gum pick into the spaces between my teeth, yet they don't feel as clean. Maybe I overdo it? Anyway, I have had success with other remedies from Earth Clinic, so decided to try Baking Soda for my gums after an especially sore week... Big difference! Instead of the throbbing at the end of the day, which I had become accustomed to, my gums feel like they used to. They also seem to feel a bit more "filled in", for lack of a better term... Not as roomy between my teeth at the gumline, and they don't seem as sensitive when I use floss now. I am following a simple plan that another reviewer suggested-a heaping tablespoon of baking soda, diluted with a small amount of water, swishing in the mouth for a minute, and not rinsing afterward. I am doing this after my morning brush and before bed. Very easy remedy, so I will be curious to see what my dentist thinks when I see him next. Thank you Earth Clinic!

I've been pretty ill so I decided to have both of my root canals removed and implants put in. Well, after oral surgery one of the site of root canal got infected. My dentist gave me Hydrogen peroxide mix with like a drop of mint to put on the site. If I run out I can just make my own with Food grade hydrogen peroxide and one drop of peppermint. Another thing that was recommended was saline (salt water solution) to help cure the infection.

You can just using hydrogen peroxide at 3% concentration to kill all bacteria after brushing and flossing.

The correct way to mix 35% food grade HP is to mix 11 oz. of distilled water and 1 oz. of fghp in a jar with a lid and then you can transfer small amounts of it to a smaller bottle for use. You don't need a dropper for this. I actually pour a small amount of the watered down hp onto my toothbrush, and then brush. I add a little toothpaste on the top of it too. And I brush my tongue too. My mouth feels wonderful afterwards. WARNING: be very careful when pouring the food grade hp into the first bottle. If it gets on your fingers, it will burn, so if this happens, run cold water on the burns.
