Effective Natural Treatments for Pet Tumors: A Guide

Our 6 yr old lab has had elevated liver enzymes for a few years now, not exhibiting many symptoms yet, also the vet has already tried the "drugs" with no improvement. After we had her just yesterday to get her teeth cleaned and she still is not herself yet, this is the last time she's going under anesthesia, unless an emergency. I came back to my tried and true Earth Clinic for help. After reading all the stories about the milk thistle and the chloraphyll, I took myself down to the local health food store and bought both. We also have a 3 yr old lab mix so he's getting it too. Shoot, my liver enzymes are usually elevated so I'm going to use it too! They love it just straight out of the bowl! I got the chloraphyll in Apple flavor and both of them lapped it up! Neneh also has some fatty tumors showing up the last year and I'll be watching them too. Her sister is 18 months older and is overweight (they feed people food! ) and also has quite a few smaller fatty tumors. I'm going to tell them about this too, they never take her to the vet except to get shots. I'll come back and give an update in a month. Thanks to everyone that posted!

I just ordered the Essiac concentrate & the herbal pills from Herbal Academy for my cat who has a large growing mass alongside his neck. I have tried many other things, nothing has helped. The castor oil thing is too hard to try in this area. I tried for a few days. He is an uncontrollable psycho to do things too, even just pills, sometimes. Hope this can be of help to someone. The liquid concentrate is a huge bottle & I ordered the smallest one, maybe not so huge if treating a dog, tho.

I never could get any answer for my beautiful cat, Jordan, and the horrible tumor in his mouth, but am now dealing with a kitty with a large nodular mass on his neck & have been giving him bloodroot pills tho unclear about dosage & don't think I have seen any change. In ordering another product for one of my cats on the site Plant Cures, I notice there is what I believe is more common sense use & application of bloodroot.

I have 13 yr old Akita, that had a tumor on his tail and was the size of a half of a golf ball. Kimo is absolutley been the greatest dog I could ask for and was worried about the tumor, he's to old to get the tumor removed and my vet Dr Dave is the best vet in the area. Kimo is like a 1 yr old health wise, but I did what earthclinic said to do to cure Kimo's tumor and I gave Kimo blackstrap molasses and tumeric and the tumor got bigger and pinkish and then it started to bleed and started breaking open about 2 weeks ago, Kimo is taking cephlaxine and is still taking blackstrap molasses and tumeric and his tumor is is now shrunk about half the size and is clearing up, I wouldn't believed it if I didn't see it and it was nasty to look at and thank god for your website.

It sounds like an umbillica hernia and when the dog gets spayed or neutered the vet can close it then. Do NOT push on it as hernias are small openings in the muscle wall and the pups intestines are just poking out some. If you mess with it you can cause problems. Many dogs live they entire lives with them, but better to close if already undergoing anesthesia.

I wanted to give an update:

Jamie passed away on 9/26 (he was euthanized). During the summer, the tumor on his front leg, and the one between his toes had cleared up so he wasn't limping on the front legs anymore, but then his back legs started to drag more as he walked. Also, he gradually lost his appetite, and everything slowly worsened over the summer. The vet had said (in the spring)that the tumors had spread, and I think that this was the cancer just taking its course. Nevertheless, his last few weeks of life were full. As I said earlier, I thought that the tumeric was not going to be a "cure" but it would buy us time, and I think that is what happened. I honestly believe that the vet had written him off back in May. We got to spend the whole summer together and the past few weeks we got to visit many places "for the last time". I would like to thank the people who created this website and those who posted information to this board.

Need Help Please: My sweet pup has a Nasal Tumor that has taken over her left eye, is protruding, but not broken through her skin yet and is also in the middle of her nose and the top of her head. I have been putting a Chinese Herb topically with vitamin E on it & it is now "suddenly" getting larger VERY QUICKLY. Last night I put Castor Oil on it & she seemed more uncomfortable.... Yet I realize that the tumor, as most write, gets larger before it goes away. She also is taking Herbs internally & just recently started on an NSAID.. Only giving her 1/2 dose prescribed. Question: Should I continue with both the Chinese Herb & vitamin E TOPICALLY during the day & alternate w/ CASTOR OIL.. Using it as well during the day & leaving it on all night? Or does that seem too much?

My goal is to get rid of the tumor asap w/out hurting my pup. Obviously Cancer hurts. Feedback from all dealing with a similar situation/Nasal Tumor or "who have had current success" using Castor Oil or? would be so very very greatly appreciated. P. S. At her last Vet visit after being on the Herbs for only four weeks, the tumor shrunk! It did not grow or stay the same which was a true miracle. But as I wrote above, I can see I have very recently made it much larger from what I am putting on the eye & tumor topically. Is this the STORM BEFORE THE EXIT OF THE HORRIBLE TUMOR?

I'm confused also. I don't understand how the castor oil works on malignant tumors. My dog has 4 tumors in her mammary gland. Will the castor oil pack help with that? Thanks!

This is frustrating. A fluid filled cyst and a fatty solid tumor are not the same thing. A cyst is easily popped and drained with a knife or even a needle, but what about a fatty tumor?
Does the castor oil force a cyst to become so large it ruptures? Therefore would it be BAD for a fatty tumor that will never rupture but continue to stay a mass?

I know this post is late but I thought I could share some research I have been doing. I have an older boxer who had a tumor in his left leg, my husband & I were talked into getting Care Credit and after a $1500 vet bill another one grew back a year later. The vet told us that our dog should have chemo therapy but I did not want to put him through that. I have since given him natural supplements and tried various homeopathic remedies to keep him healthy. Overall, he still has a great energy level but the tumor has gotten larger. It is the size of a baseball at this point. He does not seem to be in pain and from what we have been told it is benign. I stumbled upon a great site that gave some of the following helpful advice that I would like to share: (since i cannot post the link, here is the info)

Homeopathic Treatments:

Homeopathy views the symptoms of disease as signs of an underlying imbalance that must be corrected if your dog is to recover. Because they treat underlying conditions and not just the fatty tumor, homeopathic remedies take time to work. A homeopathic vet will choose which remedies to apply to your dog based on the dog's individual symptoms.

Dr. Jill Elliot, DVM, recommends treating your dog's fatty tumor with the homeopathic remedy Thuja 30C, administered at least once as an oral dose of three tablets. If your pet's overall condition appears to improve in the three weeks to month after the first dose, she advises a second dose and further observation to notice if the tumors are shrinking.

Dr. Elliott mentions that many holistic vets believe fatty tumors may result from over-vaccination. Thuja is commonly used to treat dogs that react badly to vaccines. Dr. Messonier adds Viscum Album and Arsenicum Album to the list of homeopathic remedies.

Herbal treatments:
Dr. Messonier also suggests a variety of immune system-strengthening herbs to treat dog tumors of all types. Among them are alfalfa, burdock, dandelion root, garlic, goldenseal and milk thistle. He also recommends using immune-strengthening mushrooms, including reishi.

Considerations

Me and my family have had the same 'tumor' problem with pets,,check your dog food for soy protein,,it is poison to our pets and will kill them and you. google search 'toxic soy report' you will be shocked at the news for people and pets.

My 13 y old dog, Jamie has had fatty tumors for several years, now. When he was eleven, the vet removed one at the "elbow" joint of his front leg but it has since grown back. He was dealing with it though, and the vet recommended doing nothing to the re-grown tumor, due to his advanced age and declining health.

Then about 6 weeks ago I noticed a different large, red, golf-ball growth in the same area. This was in addition to the re-grown tumor. The new growth looked like a water balloon.

That's when I started surfing the net looking for options. One night, I spent several hours reading about herbal medicine, and TCM/TCVM vs Western philosophies about cancer and tumors ... interesting stuff, but I just wanted to help my dog.

Also, as an aside, I noticed that Jamie's breath smelled a lot worse than usual ... (sort of sour.) He was in bad shape, and I was in the middle of a move.

There are "vets" out there selling their special blend of herbs and medicines ... but I wanted to "know" what I was giving my dog. So I was looking for something I could get from any herbal supply store.

Affter reading information here and elsewhere, I decided to try curcumin (which is a turmeric extract) It cost about $10/ bottle, over the internet and comes in capsule form. I take 1 capsule apart and sprinkle it over his food (I feed him twice a day).

After 3-4 days the big red tumor burst IT SMELLED AWFUL (sour like his breath) and it continued to leak for about a week. At first, the liquid that came out of the tumor was clear,and greasy. Later there was pus, but there was less and less each day.

By this time, we had moved, and Jamie was still moping around ... and I honestly did not know if he was in pain, or depressed about the move, or what. I decided to keep giving him 2 curcumin capsules a day (since it seemed to make the tumor go away), 1 with each meal, and I also cleaned the wound area with hydrogen peroxide, and kept the wound covered. Jamie did seem to be getting better, but I did not know if it was wishful thinking on my part ... so I took him to the vet a week later.

The vet said that the tumor had ulcerated, which was not good, and he had lots of tumors... but he did not recommend putting him down at this time. He said that this is just what happens to old dogs. He cleaned and shaved the area around the tumor, prescribed an antibiotic, wrapped the wound and sent us home (and charged $250).

It has been a month now, and Jamie has continued to improve. The (red)tumor has "dried up, there is no pus. He still limps a little (but he limped before). Also, the regrown tumor has shrunk ... he still has other tumors, though. I do not know if this is a "cure" ... but I do think that it has bought us some time.

I wanted to share this because I remember how frantic I was 6 weeks, when I was looking for information that could help.

After two weeks on Budwig Flax oil and cottage cheese... I can feel that the lump that was the largest and hardest over the left rib of my jack russell has gotten flatter, still hard. My husband, who didn't know I was doing anything special, was playing with him and said, Hey, I think Micks lump is smaller. I have been mixing 1T flax oil with 3T 1% fat cottage cheese with an immersion blender and feeding half in am and half in pm. He is on a special diet for urate stones. I will continue to give updates.

Have you tried the Budwig diet of Flaxseed oil and lowfat cottage cheese combined for the mast cell tumor? Just type Budwig diet for canine in your search engine and you will come up with a plethora of information. Hope this helps like other dogs have been helped.

I wrote about my 17 year old Shih Tzu and castor oil shrinking her tumor. Molly from Texas wrote sounding desperate like I felt. I just want to say that as hard as it is try to be patient because this didn't work overnight. I'm on week 7, the large bloody one is completely gone and the small one is slowly shrinking and the large one in the wrist is smaller. You asked about what I did when the tumor burst. I continued to put the castor oil on and wrap it. If you read other cures using castor oil they refer to a castor oil wrap. That is what I used. Apply the castor oil, wrap it in cotton and secure with tape. Then bandage with a self adhesive bandage found in pet stores. One thing to be very careful of is if the tumor does burst then there is a good chance it could become infected and your Molly would need antibiotics. I should note that my Mollie is 10 lbs and I have been giving her a tsp. of flax seed oil, and 1/8 tsp of tumeric once a day. Hang in there.

Please please try the spice turmeric. Check the pages here for it that's where I learned about it many months ago my dog had a growth and I couldn't afford treatment, I posted about how it shrank within weeks, I put turmeric in his food (it's good for people too and they are now experimenting with it for cancer cures for humans) please read the turmeric postings on earthclinic! I posted about my golden retriever Zeus. Also google it on the internet! It's an Indian spice, it's not uncommon but it ain't basil or oregano, so if you can't find it in your town order it overnight from a good spice site - a nice big bag - it's not too expensive. You should feed it to him in his food twice a day, mix in with a little water or wet food so he'll it - use a level teaspoon full each meal. Also apply externally like a paste to the tumor. This should not give him upset stomach - my dog has super sensitive stomach but this didn't bother him a bit. In fact turmeric is antidiarrheal - read what the humans used it for here too. Great for pets and people and safe, though I think it makes my dog smell funny but who cares? I believe this may really help you and it can't hurt because it's not dangerous. I gave it to my dog and I take it too.

But please read up on it thouroughly first. It contains curcurmin, a super food, a super spice. Very good stuff.
I have a bag of it. My dog's big round growth of an inch shrank away and within maybe 5 or 6 weeks was a couple of millimeters only!

Our 10 year old dog..all of a sudden grew over night a hard lump on her left back leg right above her paw 3 weeks ago..

Since I'm a senior I could not lift my 85 pound dog into the car....I took a picture of my sweet Molly's back leg..and took it to the vet that had seen her for 5 years..( She is a farmers daughter country vet)

The look in the vets eyes was horrible..then she says that all she can do is surgically remove the tumored bone and attempt some chemo and radiation to the tune of $7000-$12000.00..but would not suggest it because doing that procedure would not prolong my dogs life any longer than not doing the surgery.. I almost passed out with fear..gained my composure and asked for any holistic methods out there since nobody in my town has $7000-$12000 laying around in their cookie jar....

Frantic I started searching for holistic ways to help my dog..I came across this site.. It is day 8 of putting castor oil on my dogs leg 5 times a day.. I am praying like the other people reports in here... that the egg shaped hard lump surrounding my dogs back leg will start to shrink.. So far no shrinking..

My dog Molly has a spindle cell tumor on her paw. It is starting to bleed alittle. I have started using castor oil along with aloe vera and it seems to make it bleed more. I was wondering if it is ok to use castor oil along with aloe vera oil on the tumor and if it is suppose to make it bleed

Castor Oil is working to shrink my dog's tumor. I have a 17 year old Shih Tzu. She has a benign malinoma tumor on the pad of her front foot. In 2008 she had a major operation to remove it. This included the amputation of one toe so that the skin could be used to build back the large walking pad. The tumor came back 2 more times and was removed using a local anethesia. The last time it came back it could not be removed because there wasn't enough skin left. Since she is 17 we thought that she would pass before the tumor got too large. WRONG. The tumor grew and grew. It was about the size of 3 pencil erasers. A second tumor started on the same pad just about the first tumor and a third one had developed just below the pad in the wrist area. It became infected 5 weeks ago and she is now taking an antibiotic.

I found this site and began applying castor oil 5 weeks ago. I started by simply putting some on my finger and spreading it on the open, bleeding large tumor and covering it with a little pink sock. I would apply the Oil 6 times a day. I did this for 3 weeks. The tumor started to grow, which I expected because I understood it had to grow before breaking down. At this point I cut up a cotton shirt and applied lots of castor oil to all of the tumors then I wrapped it in the cotton, followed by adhesive pet bandage, followed by a fake fur, homemade mitten. I do this 2 to 4 times a day. I have been doing this for 2 weeks now. The large tumor is gone and healed. I have continued the treatment to get rid of the other 2 tumors and today I noticed that the small tumor is starting to shrink and the large one in the wrist is softer and smaller. I have taken pictures so I actually have proof that this works. I wanted to share this because I am so grateful for finding this cure. I would like to thank all of you who sung the praises of Castor Oil and took the time to write down your stories. I hope that this can help to give someone the hope that I needed and received.

I only just stumbled on this site. I have a 12 year old Yellow lab with a Gi-normous fatty tumor that has grown around her front shoulder/chest. It is impeding her ability to move around and causing the leg to 'go out'. It seems many of the people here are dealing with much smaller tumors and are able to apply the castor oil (is that with or without the aloe-vera oil?) and then cover with a band-aid. What if the tumor is too big to use a band-aid? Also, my dog has a small (its laughable really compared to the fatty tumor) mast cell tumor on it's belly. Will this treatment possibly work well for it as well? Can I use the oil in conjunction with the alkaline drops (will they help to shrink the cancer?)Any advice is appreciated. Aside from having trouble moving due to the fatty tumor she is not symptomatic as far as the cancer and still has much life in her.

Update on my dog with cyst on neck that slightly burst after 2-3 weeks of castor oil. The original 3"lump turned into the size of my hand overnight. Slight opening of skin occured but no real expulsion of pus. Brought him to vet and excision of huge neck bulge resulted in massive pus/infection. Dog put on mega antibiotics, etc. Almost 2 weeks has passed and original lump is now gone too.... He has another checkup this week. Incision was kept open and cleaned 2-3 x daily to expell infection and cleaned with water under pressure and expelled as well. He was put on Clavamox, Zeniquin, Benadryl and Cimetidine. He weighs 112# Rhodesian Ridgeback. He is excellent and improved after 1-2 day of mega antibiotics.

I can only assume that the castor oil prompted the cyst to progress that had been lying under his skin for a long time.

Vet was puzzled that she thought he had been bitten by a snake. I assured her that he had NOT......no snakes in my yard. I repeatedly told her it probably was the castor oil........she doubted that is what caused the progress in the abcess.

Hi Gayle from Tulsa. I am going to try this route. My 10 1/2 year old Annie has a huge mass in her stomach. Blood tests normal, xrays show large mass. Her behavior is fine, she has lost weight, and throws up her food and goes to the bathroom number 2 on my bathroom floor. Peas in her litter box. I want to help her but will not give the vets any more money especially 500 for an ultrasound. They tell me that I have a long road ahead even if i find out what it is exactly. I want to save my beautiful Annie. What food are you feeding the cat? I currently feed her kd and a natural frozen food from whole foods. How often should I give her the tea and for how long? Did you get any response on the burst cyst and castor oil? I was putting castor oil on a large cyst / lump on the back of my dog's neck every day for about 2 weeks. All of a sudden it grew larger and got hard as a rock. It now has burst slightly. Any idea on what to do? What happened with your pet?

I have a 12 year lab. He was suffering from 8 fatty tissues that were very large.

I learned that raspberry powder can help dogs with removing fatty tissues and tumors. My dog was draggy and slow with the many fatty tissues. I came across raspberry powder and gave it to him for a month. He only has two left.

I would put 2 tablespoons over his dog food in the morning and evening. This is a real story. The two fatty tissues left have been reduced in size.

My lab has more energy and is moving around better. Also, I give my dog 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning and put it in his bowl and put his food over it. He does lick it up.

Can you tell me if Sadiebelle's cyst had ruptured? How long did it take to clear up? My Boxer has a cyst that she just won't let heal, as she keeps licking it as soon as it seems to be almost dried up. Although it is never completely gone it does look like it has shrunk alot, once the stuff inside (mostly blood)oozes out.

I am not sure that I can use the castor oil on the cyst when it is still open and bleeding a bit, as the bottle says not to use on an open wound.

Valerie I saw that you used castor oil successfully on your dog's cyst and you also indicated that it had burst. I purchased castor oil for my Boxer's cyst, which has also burst, and noticed that the castor oil has a warning which states "do not use on open wound." So I am wondering if you used it on your dog when the wound was still open. My Boxer keeps licking the wound and so it never seems to have the chance to heal. I was hoping that the castor oil would heal it quickly, but don't want to use it if using it on the open wound is dangerous.

This worked. I applied it several (3 ) times a day and thank God, it worked. I truly don't have words to express the gratitude I feel for this site. My Sadiebelle was miserable and had already went to the vet for this and endured a painful procedure that left me in tears. The thought of having to return for another procedure when I noticed it growing back was devasting for my husband and I. But then I checked this site and sure enough, earthclinic cured my girl. I have an adopted black lab, age 15, "Lady", with a large tumor that appeared on her right leg joint (started as elbow callus appearance). The Vet stated that I would probably have to "put her down" soon because she will stop walking due to leg discomfort. He did not recommend surgery or chemo; she does have an obstructed nasal passage since someone probably kicked and crushed her face at some point in her life. She often gets antibiotics for her nasal infections - we have to carefully feed her to keep food out of her nose.

My cat Trivi has a large cancer tumor in liver & tummy area. I would like to apply Castor Oil to this area to see if I can shrink the tumor. How can I prevent him from licking off the Castor Oil from this area, can it be covered with a rag?

Spleen tumor in a dog

Hi, I hope this will be of some help to someone out there. My female German Shepherd aged 15yrs was diagnosed with a ruptured spleen tumor and given 2wks to live. She was having injections to stop her bleeding to death every few days but the vets opinion was to put her sleep. This was nearly 6mths ago. I have my girl on 'china 20C', 'ceanothus 3x', aspidosperma 30C, I also give her 1 garlic oil tablet daily, 500mg of Vit C. Her tumor shrunk to a 1/5th of its original size and she's been running around like a 6yr old dog. Unfortunately I think the cancer may have spread and the tumor looks like its has grown again so now I'm googling everything I can to see if I can find anything else to help her. Also, her diet is pretty much carb-free but I have to give her cat food in the morning to get her medication into her which probably isnt doing her any good but its better than not having her meds. If your beloved pooch has this type of cancer, please try these (her new homeopathic vet put her on these) and if you know of anything else I can try - please post it - thanks

I tried the castor oil and both times my dog got bad nosebleeds. He has a nasal tumor. Not sure if it was coincidence or if the castor oil actually caused it. I still have him on the essiac tea.

I read about castor oil removing tumors for pets so I put castor oil and a bandaid on a tumor on my chihuahua's back leg. It did make it go away. I left it on for a couple of weeks changing the bandaid every two or three days and putting more castor oil on it. Yea for Castor Oil.
