FUNGAL INFECTIONS

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED
1 SIDE EFFECT

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  05/31/2008: JS from Asheville, NC writes: "I have been trying to get rid of a fungal infection on my feet that I have had for years. Athlete's foot and now, in the past, 2 years, severely cracked heels (a sign of fungus, I have read). The over-the-counter creams that I have used do work, but they don't work permanently: the infection just moves around and later returns.

After reading up on the many of the remedies on Earth Clinic, I decided to make up my own recipe for a foot bath. So for the past 4 days, I have done the following:
3 heaping tablespoons of borax (20 mule team) dissolved in hot water, then added to a large tupperware storage container (cheap and perfect size for 2 feet).
Add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar.
Add enough hot water to cover my the bottoms of my feet and ankles.
I soak my feet for 10-15 minutes every morning.

I can't tell you at this point if it will cure the fungal infection. What I can tell you is that after 9 minutes, I get a very powerful taste in my mouth. It is the same taste I get when I am taking supplements to detox from heavy metals. What's weird is that it happens every day at the 9 minute mark. (Coincidentally, oil pulling causes my sinuses to open at the 9 minute mark too). I think that this foot soak may be a powerful way to detox from heavy metals, particularly fluoride. I hope other people will give it a try and give me their opinions. I will report back with more results in a week or two."

[QUESTION]  11/03/2009: Phil from Dearing, Ga writes: "Hello Ted. It is great to see you back and posting here on EC!

I didn't know if I should e-mail you directly, since I had read on here that you were recieving alot of spam and was not opening some of your mail. ( So correct me if I am wrong and I will send to you.)

I do alot of reading about natural cures and alternative medicines, on alot of different websites...I did your borax 1/4 teaspoon in liter of water 5 days on 2 days off for six weeks for a terrible rash I had on my arms and it did seem to work very well for a while, but the rash does still occasionally flare up. When I drank the borax I noticed no bad side effects that some people report... The only thing that I noticed was a darker color stools ( Bowel Movement ) and NOT hard, but dryer and very dark. And it starts after the first day of drinking the borax water, a few days off stool goes back to normal medium brown color.

So my first question is why the dark stools?

Also viewing serveral other websites, such as Naturalnews.com,( Who for the the most part agrees and reports almost everthing that you report )

They have a VERY DIFFERENT view on BORAX and SOY. Both of which they say are POISIONS and NOT to put in or on your body... I am not very good with computers and do not know how to post the source here, but if you visit thier website Naturalnews.com and in their search box, type in borax, these articles will come up that really condemn the use of borax, even calling it a poison in the HPV vaccine and soy they say is a poison also.

So my second question why do they disagree with you on these issues, when they agree with you on so many other things???

Also, they promote BORON as being great...So can we use BORON suppliments and get the same results as we do with Borax? ( as in anti fungal and nano- bacteria )

And my last question. I would ask you a million if I could! LOL! But I know you are a very busy man. I find it very fasinating, how much knowledge you have on all subjects and I do know you have a chemistry background...

What would be the best approach for me to become a healer using alternative medicines? Is there certain studies I should take or certain schools you would recommend? I mainly want to heal myself, but I do know, I would probably need a licsense if I where to ever open a practice or store.

I know that there are tons of natural healers out there and alot of them do totally opposites of what others do. Is one method better than the other and if so what is the very best one?

Sincerly I THANK YOU, for all that you do!

Phil"

EC: Phil, I am Skyping Ted with the questions. Best way to get a response for now!

Deirdre

11/03/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Phil:

Get any multiple vitamin and mineral supplements that have boron. The ingredients will likely be borax, but they will use chemical names, which is still the same thing. Sodium tetraborate, and other synonyms.

I used to moonlight as an industrial chemist and we used borax as the main ingredients for the boron supplements that you take in your mineral and vitamin supplements. A borax is a boron.

As to the schools, I don't subscribe to any schools as my training were a knowledge I gained from observations and studies in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, chemistry and microbiology. I am what you call as conventional as you can get and it's application directly applies from these hard sciences. These other healing practices, that conflicts with me is most likely didn't know that borax and boron are actually the same thing. It's an essential mineral.

As to your questions of dark stool, the borax flushes out dead blood cells and other toxic substances, such as fluoride. Hence the black dark color is gone the next day. It also gets rid of excessive calcium out of the tissue, giving more muscular mobility, hence the dryness of the stool. Since I prescribe to none of the school the one theory I have is based on basics in biology, which is a concern about the body achieving balance, or homeostasis (in biology), equilibrium (in nature), symbiosis (in life), conservation (in nature), the middle path (in Buddhist philosophy), the balance between Yin and Yang(Chinese philosophy and Tibetan medicine), optimization (in economics and production and operations management) are some of the examples when we used differences in our language schema of things, but the general philosophy is one and the same, to achieve balance.

My approach is basically simple, that you can follow, which is basically common sense, insight, observation and principles that people can go prove to themselves. In healing arts the one thing that can never lie to you is your body. regardless of what every one says. I did conduct seminar years ago as part of college event where we can talk on any topics, which basically discusses my approach toward the healing arts. However, people were more interested in perfumery, stock markets, or subprime mortgage, or laser surgery hence the course was discontinued, from lack of students. I can't blame them, these students are healthy, so the interests in healing arts are not popular here.

As a side note, my formula which uses of 30% salicylic acid in a lotion, with 1% aloe vera oil works many times better than laser surgery on scar tissue. But customers by nature are more interested in technology rather than efficacy. It seems that marketing has overshadow the issue of health.

I hope this answers some of your questions and I am certain I didn't address all of your questions. You just have to understand that websites, doctors, and lawyer have something in common with musical artists. You can have a bad music artist or you have a good music artist. Their abilities from one person to the next are not the same. If they were, Britney Spears or Elvis Presley could never become that popular. LOL."

[QUESTION]  08/10/2009: Gary from New York City, New York writes: "I am VERY confused. Does anyone have a website in the states that I can buy the Borax that I can drink. I keep reading aritcle after article that contradicts the previous one or uses different names for what I think might also be Borax. Anyone that uses Borax should consistently stick with that word so know one becomes as confused as I am. I want to try this so badly but am not sure which to get OR where to buy it. I understand that I use 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of Borax in 1 liter of warm water. I want the water warm so it disolves the Borax so it won't cause pain in the Kidneys. BUT where do I find the type of Boras that can be INGESTED and is it the SAME one that I would shampoo with and use instead of soap. Some one please help by posting AND emailing me this information. Thx"

08/11/2009: Rena from Mineral Bluff, Georgia replies: "Hi Gary from New York City, You are correct, it is the 20 Mule Team you find in the Laundry Isle that is most popular on the Borax thread. I have been using it as a shampoo and body wash, and love it. However, my daughter that has thick straight hair said it dries her hair out. Mine on the other hand is naturally curly and seems to be doing just fine.

I have several times put a few pinches of the borax in my drinking water maybe a couple of times a month (when I have drunken fluoridated water) to flush out the fluoride. If you were ever to see my teeth, you would understand why I am so anti-fluoride. I have been doing this for over a year, and had no negative effects. I still don't even need any deodorant and its hot out side in this Georgia summer. I do perspire a good deal, but there is no odor, and you want to perspire to flush out toxins.

I use a 32 ounce container and put about 1/4 cup borax and fill the rest of the container with hot water and shake. This amount last me at least 2 weeks maybe longer. Peace, Rena."

[QUESTION]  06/08/2009: Bob from Memphis, TN writes: "Borax Mixture and Dosage: I've read quite a bit over the weekend about borax. I ordered some of the 20 Mule Team on line because I have never seen it here in our stores. It sounds like it is good for osteoarthritis and depression so, I would like to try it. I am a little confused about how to mix it and the suggested daily dosage. I believe most people are saying 1/8 teaspoon in 1 liter of water. Then, I take it you ingest this but I haven't been able to find how much and how many times per day. Please help. Thanks."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/15/2009: Paula from Coloma, Michigan, USA writes: "Hi, I've been using 1/8th teaspoon of borax with 1/8th teaspoon of sea salt in 1 liter of water and drinking it 5 days a week for the last couple of weeks. I'm now experiencing what I would call a hive like breakout on my face, neck, chest and arms that lasts for about an hour and then fades away. It started randomly about a week after I started taking borax, but now it's almost a daily occurence. I don't know if I should quit taking it all together or if something else could be causing this. I use to have it happen after drinking certain wines years ago, or after a workout...but now it's happening while I'm at my desk at work and it has my co-workers freaked out. I haven't told them what I'm doing because they aren't into alternative medicine as I am and they already make fun of how many supplements I take a day. Please help. Thank you."

04/15/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "The problems I have encountered with facial breakouts, as this came from the fact that one of the person who reported this similar occurrence was taken estogen (Diane) and anti-androgen (androcur). Both the product apparently had a double dose of cyproterone. That caused a shutdown in the adrenals. To make the matter worse, the person also took a lot of whey protein to build muscles, that lead to protein coagulation in the body causing an acne.

In any event, one doesn't take borax without a reason. If a known fluoride poisoning exist, tor that a person has autoimmunity, or a person had rosacea, morgellons, will experience different effect.

If a person happens to have a Morgellon's having demodex mites, the borax DOES cause a breakout as the demodex mites to come out of the skin, killing most of the demdodex mites. Which is the mode of how borax kills the demodex mites. It flushes them out of the body. Same thing with certain types Rosacea, it flushes them out too.

Since I don't know the reason for why borax was taken, the two possibility that I have encountered are the ones I mentioned here. However, people can take it for different reasons and different reactions are encountered.

Ted"

04/16/2009: Paula from Coloma, Michigan, USA replies: "I am on Premarin due to having a complete hysterectomy 8 years ago. I'm only 37 but have lost the majority of my sex drive since the surgery. I was hoping the borax would help with the sex drive and to lose weight. I'm also doing the oil pulling and taking Apple Cider Vinegar supplements. Should I quit taking the borax all together?"

06/30/2009: Harmonious1 from Littleville, Southwest USA replies: "If, as stated, borax will move flouride out, then I suggest people who use it with flouridated water may be setting themselves up for these side effects. Flouride detox can be very painful, as I found out when I started taking iodine. When the flouride was stirred up and recirculated through my body, I had a lot of bad symptoms. And it takes a while for your body to get rid of it then.

I suggest using purified water, not city water, as it may be flouridated."

[QUESTION]  02/17/2009: Keith from Calgary, Alberta, Canada writes: "I have been using Borax (quarter tsp to 1 litre of water) for about 2 weeks now. How soon should I expect some kind of results? Should it make my urine yellow? This is the 20 Mule brand and said that it's 99.5% pure. I hope this is one one everyone else is speaking about."

EC: Keith, what are you taking borax for?

02/18/2009: Keith from Calgary, Alberta replies: "I am really trying to see if it would help my energy level along with my focus as I have difficulties blocking noises out. I read somewhere that a professor did an experiment with his students give them 10mg of boron and had some pretty good results."

11/14/2008: CJ from San Jose, CA writes: "I've read many things on the internet stating that borax is toxic and should not be taken. How are you sure there are no long term effects that can be caused from taking it internally for a month? I'm not familiar with it at all, but most websites say it's just like bleach, and I would imagine something like bleach could cause stomach cancer or things like that if taken internally, not to mention just mess up your organs. I'm willing to give it a try if its completely safe, but why do so many sites say it's not? Are we thinking of the same "borax" or there is different types?"

11/04/2008: Matt from Millbrook, NY, USA writes: "I was wondering if Boric Acid is safe for internal use. I'm well aware of the mass disinformation when it comes to alternative medicine, but when I see the word "POISON" surrounded by two skulls and crossbones, I get a bit intimidated. I've done enough research to say that it probably IS safe, but I'd just like to ask others for a bit more comfort. I have 20 Mule Team Borax coming in the mail soon, so it doesn't really matter...but is powdered Boric Acid safe to at least bathe with?"

[YEA]  09/17/2008: Willie from Lauderdale Lakes, Fl writes: "20 Mule Team Borax ingredients

Ingredients: 100% Borax, a naturally occurring mineral composed of sodium, boron, oxygen and water. That's it!
What Is Borax? Borax, or sodium borate, is a naturally occurring alkaline mineral first discovered over 4000 years ago. It is found in large quantities in the Western United States as well as in the Tibet area of China.

Note: I googled the above information."

[YEA]  08/29/2009: Stephanie from Rancho Cucamonga, Ca replies: "I used Borax to releive the itching and irritation from a yeast infection. This was the advice of my gynocologist. I have done this several times and had immediate results without having to use messy creams and sepositories. Take one teaspoon of 50 mule borax and combine with about 2 & 1/2 cups of warm water. Mix together until the borax is dissolved and put in a douche bottle or bag. I found that the bag works best because you can do this in the shower without a lot of effort or cleanup. Douche away at the first signs of the yeast infection. I would only have to do this once a day for about 2 or 3 days. It's natural, safe and effective. Borax is also found in lipsticks and lip gloss. I think it's been given a bad rap for years because it's cheap to produce and when used properly, won't cause any other diseases. If no one had any diseases, how would the pharmaceutical companies make their money?"

09/10/2008: Boz from Sydney, Australia writes: "I notice that many people on this site are advocating internally ingesting borax as a cure for various problems. This is not a good thing to promote, as borax is harmful when ingested.

I use borax mixed with sugar as a natural ant killer - it kills off an ant problem in 2-3 days.

This indicates a level of toxicity that shouldn't be treated lightly. When I cook up the mixture, I wear gloves and a facemask to prevent breathing in the fumes.

The following excerpt about borax toxicity is from Wikipedia:

Start of excerpt:

Borax, sodium tetraborate decahydrate, is not acutely toxic. Its LD50 (median lethal dose) score is tested at 2.66 g/kg in rats. This does not mean that it is safe, merely that a significant dose of the chemical is needed to cause severe symptoms or death. Simple exposure can cause respiratory and skin irritation. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal distress including nausea, persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Effects on the vascular system and brain include headaches and lethargy, but are less frequent. "In severe poisonings, a beefy red skin rash affecting palms, soles, buttocks and scrotum has been described. With severe poisoning, erythematous and exfoliative rash, unconsciousness, respiratory depression, and renal failure."

...Boric acid solutions used as an eye wash or on abraded skin are known to be especially toxic to infants, especially after repeated use because of its slow elimination rate.

End of excerpt.

note the use of the words "acutely toxic". Just because Borax isn't acutely toxic does not mean that it isn't toxic, just that it doesn't kill immediately. Please don't fool around with internally ingesting this stuff - it may seem like a harmless white powder that seems to do some good, but there are good reasons why it's banned as an additive to foodstuffs in many countries."

09/12/2008: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Borax or sodium tetraborate hexahydrate, or related name is a boron mineral that is an essential minerals for mammals but are toxic for insects, parasites and hence is used to get rid of parasites and has a unique anti-fungal.

Most reported toxicity is boric acid, which is the acid component of boron, but the sodium borate is an alkaline component so it's toxicity is low. Israel has the world's lowest arthritis and rheumatism because the borax content high in their drinking water is high. Boron deficiency leads to osteoporosis and many problems associated with candida, lichen planus, and the like. I was once chemical industrialist and we used boron compounds added into infant formula and multivitamins to prevent boron deficiency. One of the most unique features of borons is it's toxicity of 2000 mg/kg of LD50 is equivalent toxicity equal to that of sodium chloride, which is salt. The single most unique element is boron I used is to fight against metastatic cancer rather successfully when taken along with two other critical components, lecithin taken before and after every meals, and alkalization also. Boron raises the body's immune system by normalizing the body's hormone system and raises libido and sexual impotence and has some unique viagra like properties in both men and woman. Boron is an essential minerals in stabilizing calcium and magnesium components in the blood. Its anti cancer properties of boron or borax owes it to the fact it can kill fungus, reduce mycotoxins and which is really the cause behind cancer, arthritis, candida, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. It reduces excessive calcification of the pineal gland which is the control center of the biological clock and is used to detoxify or reduce the toxicity of fluoridated water. In fact this is the antidote I used to prevent myself from death of accidental fluoride poisoning during my laboratory work with hydrofluoric acid. I wouldn't be hear typing this post if it hadn't been for borax saving my life on a couple of ocassions. One common poisoning that parents worry is when children eat up the almost most of the toothpaste tube and borax has saved their life. The toxicity of fluoride we used in toothpaste is actually more than 10 times more toxic than borax. Borax toxicity of LD50 is equal to that of Salt, which is safer than some of the pharmaceuticals that is FDA approved. Because of its effectiveness in most remedies, the fact that its an essential mineral and that it has saved my life, boron isn't going to go away that easily. Think of it this way: what happens if your child has accidental fluoride poisoning from toothpaste and doctors say there's nothing you can do about it?

Ted"

[YEA]  01/22/2009: Sharon from Vancouver, BC Canada replies: "Here's some information on the mineral boron you might find surprising...

"Prior to 1981 boron was thought to be unimportant in human nutrition. Since then numerous animal and human studies have established it as essential for normal growth and for hormones involved in bone metabolism, and for normal balanced levels of estrogen and testosterone.

A 1988 study by Neilsen and Prasad "Essential and Toxic Trace Elements in Human Health and Disease," found that boron is essential for the manufacture of several hormones. Overaggressive marketing claims touted boron for high testosterone levels; this is false, boron only helps the body to maintain normal levels. Of course without those normal levels many facets of enjoyable living will suffer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture conducted a study on boron and found that within eight days of boron supplementation of 3 milligrams, the test group of postmenopausal women showed 40% less loss of calcium and 33% less loss of magnesium through their urine than before boron supplementation. In spite of this study and numerous others, boron has yet to be added to the "Essential Nutrient" list and given an RDA intake level.

Strangely this complete article has vanished from the web! You have to ask yourself why? This article by inference explains that boron is a very cheap viagra... Pharmy would lose billions of dollars if men switched from viagra to boron... and it's good for osteoarthritis and old women's bones too!... but it's also another sad example of how the government protects big pharmy by withholding and manipulating information.

The old pharmacology of using silver, gold and alkaloids like boron is so effective at treating illnesses that it is a direct threat to the existence of current pharmacy methods and the AMA. This is how the pharmacy holdings get into the play of things... its now about racketeering and ill gotten gains, by failing to report these simple truths.

The reason the internet is currently flooded with warnings about boron is simply because Big Pharmy would lose billions of dollars if everyone knew the truth and what they fail to tell you is that all plants would die without boron and that it's a necessary mineral required by humans. The daily requirement is from 3mg to 6mg a day and up to 45mg a day is useful for treating deficiencies.

I found USP grade boron on ebay for about 8.00 per pound which is about a two year supply. While on the subject of minerals, researchers have recently discovered why the body requires zinc... it turns out that there is one molecule of zinc at the very base of your dna and if you are deficient in zinc the body simply cannot properly duplicate your dna!

Before you believe internet propaganda about the dangers of vitamins and minerals and natural cures please remember that if you're too healthy from taking cheap natural cures you will fail to spend thouands of dollars on doctors and toxic Rx's that hide symptoms and do nothing to eradicate disease!!!! Always ask yourself who and where your information is coming from and who stands to profit from it? Wishing you all the best of health."

11/23/2007: Joyce from Joelton, TN writes: "Hello to all you who love this site as much as I do -Just answered my own question for Ted. Just printed out MSDS on 20 Mule Team Borax which gives its chemical formula as Na2B4O710H2O (sorry, apologize for not being able to get this computer to properly type chemical formulas) but it proceeds to give chemical names/synonyms: sodium tetraborate decahydrate, disodium tetraborate decahydrate, borax decahydrate, Borax 10 Mol

Goes on to say "this product contains greater than 99% sodium tetraborate decahydrate" and repeats the chemical formula again. I take this to mean that Borax and 20 Mule Team Borax found in the laundry section of the grocery store in 3 lb. carton for about $4 to be one and the same. [YEA]  10/02/2007: Dee from Lafayette, LA writes: "Hello. I am writing in response to the posts about borax use. Many people have asked if they should just use 20-mule-team borax. I just found this site so I haven't used the remedies yet, but I wanted to write and give your readers a lead on a cosmetic grade borax. Actually, if they just type that into a search engine, they could find it themselves. But I found it at a place where I buy bulk organic herbs and flowers for making my own personal care products. This is the description from their site: "A natural source cosmetic grade Sodium Borate that does not contain surfactants and detergents which are commonly found in commercial Borax products. Borax acts as an emulsifier, natural preservative and buffering agent for moisturizers, scrubs and bath salts." Now, I would imagine that this means the borax in the store is NOT the one you would want to ingest, even in small amounts, since it more than likely DOES contain other ingredients that you don't want. So, if I were to try this remedy, I would look for 'cosmetic grade sodium borate'. The place I found the above description was mountain rose herbs, listed under miscellaneous products. I do not work for them and have no vested interest in telling you their name. I am, however, very impressed with them in general. I've purchased many things from them and everything has been good quality. You can delete the company's name if you'd like, it matters not to me. As long as your readers type in the correct words, they would find the site I'm talking about, or at least a place that sells the grade of borax that I'm referring to. Well, good luck! I'm off to email Ted to see if the borax will kill spirochetes..."

Inasmuch as it is not purposed to compete with Tide or Cheer, it may not have surfactants and such in it."

[YEA]  10/21/2009: Kantuckee from Green Road, Kentucky, Usa writes: "Years ago I picked up a small book of old timey cleaning recipes from the 1900s. In the last century before there was store bought bottles of cleaning concoctions people made their own products. Women with the long hair used Borax Water to clean their hair very efficiently. The recipe I use is 1 cup of Borax to 1 gal of very hot water. Let it sit for 24 hours and shake it occasionally. Use only the water from this jug to wet your hair and just squeeze through, don't scrub. Rinse throughly and if needed do a vinegar rinse to clean any buildup.

When you are low on the borax water I add water and/or borax to keep the level right in the jug.

I hope this helps."

I already know quite a bit about herbs and vitamins but I am really being educated to some incredible healing therapies here. I have fallen in love with borax. I have had an itchy scalp for 10 years. When I say that it sounds pretty benign, but it has dominated my existence, alternating between itching, inflammation, tenderness, prickliness, numbness and downright pain. I noticed that it had a hormonal connection, but because my head "talked to me" with all of the above symptoms, I touched and tugged on individual hairs to calm my head. Of course I knew it wasn't working and it only made matters worse, but there was a "reaction".

I have purchased rogaine, shampoos, conditioners, pills, anti itch sprays, etc and the list goes on. I happened on a diatribe on curezone, and they mentioned borax and also earthclinic. so I went to this site and found a ton of amazing information. Of course the light bulb goes off. The next morning I mixed some borax in water and poured it on my scalp. Small amounts of tingling pain. My hair felt silky but stronger and thicker. My hair looked fantastic, but the other noticeable thing was that my scalp didn't itch. Later on in the day, there were tiny scabs where the small bumps would show up.(I know I didn't mention that earlier, but neither did I mention that my hair didn't feel like it was firmly connected into my scalp either) I knew that I had found a solution to what has been driving me crazy.

I really wonder if the people who pull out their hair are reacting to some of the same conditions that I have been experiencing for so long. I no longer feel like I need to "play" with my hair. when I say play with it, I actually mean that I was pulling a lot of it out. I was not trying to pull it out, but I felt that if I just ran my nail down the length of it that I would somehow "fix the individual hairs, and sometimes they would come out, because as I said they were not firmly rooted into my scalp. I take away the symptoms with the borax and I no longer need to touch the hair. I think they call it tricholotomia or something like that.

I have a question and I don't know if anyone has an answer, but my brother in law has a bone chip on his ankle. He has had surgery once to "fix" it but it didn't work, the pain is back, and he is once again, walking with a cane. I don't know how big this bone chip is, but is there anyway to either dissolve the bone chip, or to get the bone chip to attach to his ankle?

anyway, I am glad this site is out here in cyberspace where people can get real and helpful information and not have to pay 150.00 for either a non answer from a doctor ( I brought my scalp problem up 3 times with 2 different doctors and they would look at my scalp and offer zero advice or help) or an answer which doesn't do crap or hurts you. I don't know about you but when I pay a doctor 150.00 and they either don't answer my question or whatever they do doesn't work, I think I should get my money back. Speaking of doctors, I went to one once because I was sick two days before I was going on a long vacation. I diagnosed myself and knew that I had rocky mountain fever. My father in law had gone hunting and his wife cooked some of the meat that he brought back. They both had come down with it. I had heard my mother in law say how hard it was to diagnose. I had all the symptoms but I tend to get really gassy and nausous. I DID not want to be sick on christmas vacation around family.

I went to dr. before I left, explained what I had, symptoms, and why. He said absolutely nothing to me, gave me some anti nausea meds and sent me on my way. They did nothing. I got some charcoal pills before I left because the dr. hadn't helped at all. I spent 10 days in bend ore. sick as a dog, Toward the end I felt like my insides were starting to dissintegrate. I separated myself from everyone because of the terrible gas. I finally started to have diahhrea just before we left (I have always been constipated) It took us two days driving home in the snow. I went to a check medical as soon as I got home (different doctor) I told the doctor, I know I have rocky mountain fever, just give me the meds, you can run the tests but I can not live with this another day. He gave me the drugs. Two days later, they called to say indeed I had rocky mountain fever. I was so pissed at the other doctor for ruining my vacation. Of course this was about 17 years ago before wonderful access to web information. But that doctor was so arrogant he could not stand having a patient telling him what was wrong. Thank god for the second doctor because I was ready to kill myself by then rather than feel like my insides were literally pulling away from their internal walls, feeling constantly nauseated, but not being able to throw up. Sorry, I am still pretty angry about it and I have never called or said anything directly to that doctor. I simply never went to his office again. sincerely. me."

Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated . Regards."

06/10/2009: Sandee Palm Coast from Palm Coast, Florida replies: "RE- BORAX and water for rinse - ITCHY SCALP

Thanks for the simple remedy - wondering when you said "small" amount of Borax what you mean - IE: Tablespoon - or smaller - in a jug I presume to pour over the head - and is this LEFT on - or rinsed out. Last Week - I tried Apple Cidar Vinegar and that too make my hair thicker with more body - but the Borax sounds better for continual itch. Thank you - "

[YEA]  12/03/2007: Rhonda from Seattle, WA writes: "I learned about borax on curezone for itchy painful scalp and decided to try it. Someone else on this site has mentioned how nice her hair is as a result of using the borax. I have NEVER used a hair product- a shampoo or a conditioner that has equalled the lustruous results I have achieved with borax. My hair was dry and straw like now it feels soft and silky and very manageable. The rats nest is gone! I can now comb and brush my hair again without fear of tearing my hair out. If for no other reason, I think everyone should abondon their shampoo and start using borax to wash the hair. As for my scalp? I was pretty desperate the day I tried the borax. My scalp was very sore, there was an inflamed (swollen) ridge on my part and there were tiny bumps like zits forming. I have a theory that hair pullers are reacting to whatever it is that causes these symptoms I experience. I started messing with my hair when I started experiencing all of the above. anyway. after using the borax, pain and itching subsided. bumps scabbed over that same day. soooo gentle. Have you noticed that if you get it in your eyes, it does not burn? I remember when I was a kid, I had some sort of eye infection so I went to the doc and he said I had pink eye and prescribed boric acid ointment. so of course it would be gentle to the eye. I am anxious to try it internally for some of the other issues I have read here on the site.(arthritis, tmj, fibromyalgia).""

05/28/2009: Linda from Detroit, MI USA replies: "I used 20 Mule Borax on my color treated hair (1/2 cup disolved in 1 liter water) and experienced some fall out the first few times. If you have thick hair, I wouldn't worry too much since I think it was more or less because the hair was already damaged. Now it doesn't affect it at all when I used it."

06/09/2009: Rachel from Indianapolis, USA replies: "Hi! I tried using Borax today for the first time for an itchy, flaky scalp. I mixed some of the ___ brand with my shampoo. The strange part is that when I mixed some of it with the shampoo, it smelled a bit like ammonia. The shampoo I use is from Whole Foods Market. It is a fragrance free, paraben free shampoo. Does anyone know if I should be concerned about the smell? I like the way it lathers when mixed with a shampoo more than just the Borax itself. Also, how much should I be using? I think I may have used too much because my hair felt rough and un-combable at first and I had to use a lot of conditioner (which usually isn't the case), but I did like the result once it dried. Would I be better off doing a borax/water rinse before shampooing? Thanks for everyone's comments, and this website is SO helpful!"

06/10/2009: Rena from Mineral Bluff, Georgia replies: "Hi Rachel From Indianapolis, I am one that uses Borax daily, as a body wash and hair shampoo. You don't need to mix with anything but water. It is a wonderful and cheap body wash and hair shampoo as is. I know it's hard to get use to because it does not foam, but just pour on and massage into the scalp, and all over the body, rinse, and your done. I still don't need to even use any underarm deodorant, even more money saved, Peace, Rena."

06/10/2009: Rachel from Indianapolis, IN replies: "Thanks for your feedback! I will give that a try! Do you make a water/Borax solution to use on your hair and body? If so, what are the measurements you use? Thanks again!"

08/30/2009: Nooree from Miami, Florida replies: "Hi , I also started to use borax with the whole food market shampoo and I can also smell ammonia in my hair when I have it one. Is it normal? I tried to use it with water but my hair was not soft. In how many days my hair will get use to it and how much should I use in a quart of water. Please let me know how much ratio is used of borax:water when you shampoo your hair. Thanks! I am already benefitting with borax remedy for Candida that I suspect I have. I might not but I did have burning mouth for 10 years without ill effects to my health but last year I was diagnosed with auto immune disease of Thyroid "GRAVES" and then I realized that it might be the flouride toxins in water that I am allergic to so I started to detox with borax. I know it will help me if I have candida.

I just take 1/8 tsp of borax and put is one liter of water which is approximately 4 and1/2 glsses and I drink that all day long till it lasts, in a day for 4 days than I rotate with iodine ( Lugal's) 2% 3 to 4 drops in a glass of water for four days and then I take Hydrogen peroxide 3%, 5 drops in water for 4 days and then I take propolis extract one dropper full in water for 4 days to boost my immune system and so on. I am also on candida diet for six months or so. I am feeling better but now I have heavy legs that is not going away even though I took Vitamin E and magnesium/potassium. If any one knows any thing I am doing wrong or should do more let me know. Thanks! I love this site and the people who made this site possible. God bless you all."

[YEA]  09/06/2007: Katya from Grand Rapids, MI writes: "WOW! This is great i never knew Borax could do so much! I've been using it for almost two years to wash my hair and body with. My hair is soft and shiny, like baby hair and i'm 54 years old! I rinse with 1/4 teas. of citric acid mixed in a pint of water. Together they are the best! No more itchy scalp, no more chemically laden shampoo! Now i'm going to try using it to get rid of Candida!"

09/16/2008: Mary from Regina, Canada replies: "To Kayta from Grand Rapids: Do you make some kind of shampoo with the borax or do you put it straight on your head? Thanks"

[YEA]  08/26/2007: Jennifer from Windsor, CA writes: "Hi read Jackie's post a week or so ago regarding her results with borax and water to shampoo hair. I gave it a try and my hair felt great. I have long, heavy hair and it felt clean, soft and not dried out at all. Is anyone else doing this? I'm curious to see if anyone else had done this long-term as I want to make sure I'm not going to destroy my color-treated hair in the long run. I found a shampoo recipe online last week that included borax, castille soap, glycerin and a couple other ingredients. It turned out to be a disaster - after using a second time, my hair was a matted mess. I'm thinking it was the Dr. Bronner castille soap - which I love for face cleansing, but not on my hair. I used the straight borax and water this morning and my hair feels soft and clean again."

04/21/2009: Marty from Nashville, Tennessee -- Music City, USA replies: "I, too, have long hair. I ran out yesterday and bought some Borax after reading all of the comments here regarding its use. I'll have to get really brave before I think about ingesting it though! I tried washing my hair in two quarts of warm water with two Tablespoons of Borax. I do give it credit for detangling my hair. Brushing it out wet has always been a chore. Borax simplified that! However, the end result didn't impress me. My hair seemed heavy and wouldn't move. It appeared matted down after dry. I think adding a tiny bit of shampoo will work for me. I am going to try bathing in it for all of the noted benefits, but I truly am the type that needs some shampoo of some sort. Maybe I'll try adding a bit to some Baby Shampoo. I love this website!"

04/21/2009: WhollyFool from Farmington, MI replies: "Hi there,

I had similar problems the first time I used Dr Bronners soap: my hair felt like one big stuck together mass. I wanted to cry I was so upset. Then I used the vinegar rinse (just a splash of white vinegar in some tap water) and my hair smoothed out perfectly. From what I've read, it's a PH problem, so I'm assuming that would be the same with the Borax.

For the record, I tried the castille/vinegar combo out of desperation with my frizzy hair. I don't notice a big difference between my hair with the various high priced shampoo and conditioners I was trying, so I'll stick with the castille/vinegar. At least I know what's in it!"

[YEA]  04/22/2009: Rena from Mineral Bluff, Georgia replies: "Hi Everyone that reads this,

I've been using the Borax and Water for shampooing my hair for well over a year now. It's kind of hard to get use to in the beginning because it does not foam up but it does get slippery. I am 48 years old, with naturally curly hair, and it is always tangle free and smooth, not dry or oily at all. My one fault is I use a lot of hairspray to keep my hair in place for the day, but the borax and water keeps any buildup from occurring due to the hairspray. I thought why stop there, why not use it all over like a body wash, it's cheap, easy an all in one kind of thing. I can shave my underarms and legs with no problem because it is a slippery solution and the razor just glides on through. I do not have dandruff but never did to begin with so I don't know if it would help with this condition or not.

As far as measurements go, that's hard to say because due to the size of container you are using. Just simply go to the point of saturation, and if there is still some crystals from the borax in the bottom, so what no big deal.

Peace, Rena."

[YEA]  08/12/2007: Jackie from Grand Rapids, Minn. writes: "Hi, i'm using many of Ted's wonderful remedies. The latest is borax for a shampoo. I was scared at first, thought my hair would be a matted, tangled, dried out mess. Well it works better than any shampoo i've tried, and my stick straight thin hair has new thickness and body. So much so, that i was able to get a chin length haircut with bangs which i didn't dare do before. I don't know if i'm right but i use 2 tbsp borax to 2 qts. warm water and pour it over my head about 3 times then massage my scalp then rinse. i almost forgot to mention i don't need a conditioner or detangling rinse. This makes me really happy because i'm trying to reduce or eliminate chemicals on my skin and body.I use borax water to dampen my hair before a hairset too. I have very light gray hair and i'm trying blackstrap molasses everyday to see if i can get some darker hair back. several people who don't know i'm doing this have said my hair looks darker gray, it definetly is darkening at the hairline on the sides and on the nckline after a short time, so i'm hopeful, but just to be able to have body and thickness to my hair is just thrilling no matter what color it is. Thanks so many times for all this information. jackie"

10/04/2008: Cindy from Kansas, USA replies: "I'd been trying to find the amount of borax to use for shampoo when I stumbled upon a website that sold borax shampoo in the form of 1/8 cup of dry borax in a bottle (appears to be a 1 quart or 1 liter bottle). You simply add water and use as shampoo so I'm going to try that.

Apparently, several people use it but can only find one (Thanks Jackie!) who uses 2 tablespoons borax in 2 quarts of water. How about the others? How much do you use and how do you apply it?"
