[YEA]  05/13/2009: Mitchell from London, UK: "tea tree oil: This is a remedy that works for me....Just soak a tiny bit of cotton wool( about a cotton bud sized piece,) and tuck it under the gum in the infected area, replace ever hour or so. The abcess will diminish after a day.You are not supposed to swallow TTO so avoid this by spitting out into a tissue- but its not fatal.- Definitely the lesser of 2 evils."

Ted's Remedies

06/13/2007: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand: "Traditionally people use clove oil (2-4 drops) to do the mouthwash in 1/4 glass of water will work better as clove has a numbing effect and kill the bacteria also. Dentists also use the clove oil applied directly using appropriate devices, to the area of cavities. Often 1% hydrogen peroxide with baking soda, for me works the best in preventing cavities from getting any larger. However, if the mouth has high number of bacterium, using them a couple of times is helpful. I do it say 2-3 times. The cavities tooth pain goes away quite quickly. The key is to make sure there is no food residue after eating, which means a peroxide mouthwash is to be done after eating of every meal.

The use of either black tea bag, or a green tea (no sugar, no fructose, no milk) is a broad spectrum antibiotics.

Sometimes, if my budget is limited, I mixed a 1/8 teaspoon of tannic acid in 1/2 glass of water to do the mouthwash, with frequent swishing of course! They work too, of course, whenever I don't have green tea or 1% hydrogen peroxide at my home.

In the long run, the key is to make sure the saliva pH exceeds 7 or at least 7. Cavities don't form if the saliva are at this level. It seems drinking green tea occasionally caused the saliva gland to worked better and raising the pH can be done with baking soda 1/4 teaspoon taken twice a day helps a lot in prevention. It must be noted that peroxide reduce the bacteria, but baking soda prevents the bacteria in the mouth from growing (that and no food particles and sugary food).

In other times I can do 2-4 drops of iodine in 1/2 glass of water as a good mouthwash also. It prevents iodine deficiency when this is done occasionally, such as once a week, for example."

04/22/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "The best cure I can think of for a tooth abscess that helped me is when I mixed a 1/4 teaspoon of potassium carbonate into 1/2 glass of water and use this as a mouthwash. Do it three for four times should reduce the pain in a couple of hours. Basically a relatively strong alkaline solution will usually destroy the bacteria. At least it really helped with my cavities pains.
Also I sometimes mixed sodium perborate also (after dissolving it which takes an hour in water!) keeps my teeth free from the abscess also. If you can't find potassium carbonate, a good alternative might be sodium carbonate, however, I think you might need a little less. Ideally a sodium perborate and potassium carbonate should do the trick. I have also resorted to using H2O2 1.5% as a mouthwash now and then just to be sure also.

However, a longer term solution of taking some vitamin B3 in particular plus a B complex vitamins will help reduce it too. If everything works out as expected, some improvement should be noticed within the next day. The theory is basically simple, the bacteria in your mouth has a weakness against alkaline, for the very same reason why they cause cavities by creating acid to dissolve your tooth enamel which causes tooth abscesses whenever they too get into your gums. Flossing also helps in later stages also. However, if the condition still persist it is best to see your dentist. Oh yes, by the way, take a fairly large daily dose of vitamin C also as it is also helps with tooth abscess, such as 1-2 grams (1000-2000 mg) per day. This will also really help relieve the conditions of fibromyalgia if taken together with magnesium and malic acid (apple cider vinegar is high on malic acid)."

09/23/2013: Wieas from London, Uk: "I have now had 2 abscesses on my lower jaw bone. I think this is what my doctor called it when I last saw him. It was either an abscess or an infection he referred to it as but I cannot really remember.

Anyway, what happens is my jaw starts to become really sore and I can feel a lump on my lower jaw bone. This lump cannot be felt inside my mouth but can be felt by pressing my face at the bottom of my jaw.

I was prescribed antibiotics by the doctor on both occasions. I can't take anything with penicillin in as I'm allergic to it and come out in a rash. The problem is although the pain eventually goes when I take the antibiotics I can still feel a very small lump in my jaw which makes me think that the infection has not totally cleared. This has happened on both occasions when I have had an infection. I am worried now that I am going to be more likely to get recurrent infections every few months because of it.

Can anyone recommend anything natural I could take to clear the infection, please? Thank you."

You can try swishing with Sodium bi Carbonate water, which you can make by disolving one tea spoon of Sodium bi Carbonate in half glass of water. You can do it at least twice a day and it should keep the bacteral infection at bay. Good Luck

Baldev"

09/23/2013: Wieas from London, Uk replies: "Hi Baldev, thanks for your response. Is Sodium Bicarbonate the same as Bicarbonate of Soda, that we in the UK buy in the supermarket?"

09/23/2013: Dave from Fountain Inn, Sc replies: "Dear Wieas,

Concerning your desire to find a natural antidote to the infection on your jaw; This is what I'd do if this were me... I'd take a high parts per million solution of colloidal silver (over 100 ppm) and mix with an equal part of DMSO, a solvent and carrier. A cap full and a half of both... Or a tablespoon of each and use white paper towel to soak up the mix. When combined the mix will become warm. Immediately soak the paper towel with the mix and apply the soaked part of the paper towel to the jaw where the absess is located. Hold there for fifteen minutes. Repeat an hour later.

Repeat the same protocol the next day. And the next. By the third day you should be able to tell a big difference. If better, continue the treatment.

The silver solution kills the virual/fungal/bacterial infection and the DMSO carries the silver INTO the jaw.

Best to you,

Dave"

09/25/2013: Toourlady989 from Hayward Ca replies: "Oregano oil, also called oil of oregano, is a natural antimicrobial and antispasmodic remedy. Many people have successfully used oregano oil for treating a tooth abscess, which is an infection that can spread to the jaw. The pain associated with a jaw infection can be so severe that dentists typically prescribe pain medications. Oregano oil's numbing properties reduce pain, and its antimicrobial properties will help clear up the infection. Before using oregano oil for this type of infection, talk to your doctor or dentist first.

Step 1

Saturate one end of a cotton swab with oil of oregano and apply to your gums.

Step 2

Saturate the other end of the cotton swab and apply it to any abbesses in the mouth. According to Medicine Plus, mouth abscesses may require surgery in order to drain the pus, which would ultimately reduce some pain as well. Oregano oil assists abscess drainage and kills the bacteria leaking from the pus-like packet in the mouth.

Step 3

Apply oil of oregano to the teeth affected by the jaw infection with another clean cotton swab. A jaw infection typically affects the gums and teeth. Applying oregano oil on the tooth can prevent further tooth decay. Apply the oil to the gums between the teeth that are affected.

Step 4

Do not eat for 30 minutes after application. This gives the oil time to work.

Step 5

Saturate a cotton ball with oil of oregano and apply to your jaw. You need a topical application for the external jaw area. You may feel pain around the ears, cheeks and throat. Apply the oregano oil to these areas. Apply the oil anywhere you feel pain.

Step 6

Use oregano oil every 2 to 3 hours until your infection clears up and add oregano to your foods for maximum benefits. Phyllis Balch, author of "Prescription for Nutritional Healing, Fifth Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements, " recommends adding oregano to foods or oregano oil to salads for maximum antimicrobial effects."

09/25/2013: Wieas from London, Uk replies: "To Dave from Fountain Inn: Thanks for your response. Have just ordered Colloidal Silver from internet. However, could not find DMSO. Is there any alternative to DMSO that I could use instead? Thanks"
09/26/2013: Dave from Fountain Inn, Sc replies: "To Wieas from London,

Sorry the DMSO is not available in London. When I google it here in the states.... Just "DMSO" many sites come up. Try googling "Doctor Jacob DMSO" which is his web site on MSM and DMSO. Also read about DMSO by googling "Doctor Jacob DMSO 60 Minutes" and see the great three part discussion on the amazing uses of DMSO.

If you can't get it in England (is there a country by country difference in google?) then try a feed and seed store in England... Where they sell farm and linaments and you'll get DMSO (likely) since vets often use DMSO. The white wraps you see on horse's legs are called "DMSO Wraps" (usually) containing DMSO to counter sprains and bone issues.

If you have a vet friend, he could get you some.

If you have a friend in the states it could be purchased here and shipped. (I don't know the laws on that assuming it's not considered contraband of course. ) Also you have health food stores in England which is where most people buy little bottles of DMSO.

A safe solvent/carrier is necessary to get the liquid CS into the effected area. I know of no other substitute but I've heard some years back of such a carrier but didn't really pay too much attention since DMSO is perfect.

I'm really intrigued as to why you don't get DMSO as soon as it is googled in England and would appreciate someone explaing how this is so because when you google DMSO here, numerous sites come up."

09/27/2013: Wieas from London, Uk replies: "Dave from Fountain Inn - thanks very much for your detailed reply.

I have just checked EBay UK (don't normally buy off there cos I'm never too sure whether or not the goods are genuine) and there was loads of DMSO. Will now order some and see how it goes.

Once again, thanks."

05/06/2014: Shana18 from North Miami Beach, Florida replies: "Just wanted to add that I had a severe tooth abscess that I accidentally cured with zinc lozenges. I lost a filling last year and after being tortured by food getting into the space where the filling was I intentionally cracked off part of my tooth (not too bright). this resulted in some sort of infection and I had a tooth abscess on and off for about a month. it got real bad and I decided to take some zinc lozenges. I had heard that zinc lozenges kill mouth bacteria and can kill the bacteria that cause a strep throat ... so I took four. each lozenge had 24 mg. zinc, 1000 IU vit A, and 150 mg vit C. the abscess came to a head and it was over by the fourth lozenge. I don't know if it was the zinc, but zinc is a very powerful antibacterial metal, and I think it immobilized the bacteria in the mouth"
05/07/2014: Timh from Ky replies: "Shana18: Good to hear your success report. I have been advocating Zinc Lozenges here for some time as I have had good results also. Studies have show that pathogens cannot properly adhere to cell surfaces that are optimized w/ Zinc."

[WARNING!]  01/10/2013: Liz from Westchester County, Ny replies: "Hi Linda, it is very dangerous to let a tooth abcess go untreated. My husband had a tooth abcess a couple of years ago. He'd had a toothache with minor pain for about a week and didn't pay much attention to it until a red line started to form down his neck one morning. He was about to leave the country on business but realized (Thank GOD) that it was now a medical emergency and rushed to get the tooth removed. The oral surgeon who extracted his tooth said he had reached him just in time and that it would have been a disaster if he had gotten on the plane to travel to Europe. As I have since learned from multiple dentists, infection from a tooth abcess can kill you so it is very important to treat an abcessed tooth as soon as possible. Best to you, Liz."

05/14/2012: Cat from Bop, Nz: "Anyone know what could be causing a sometimes dull ache, sometimes sharpish pain on my left side in my teeth? There's no throbbing at all and it doesn't appear to be in my gums or jaw area, just teeth but can't pinpoint where exactly as it seems to be on the top and then on the bottom! The pain is only on a scale of about a 3 out of 1-10 so it's not too bad but it's been over a week now with a continuous slight headache accompanying it.

Then this morning I woke up with a kind of heavy head like it wanted to just fall forward and somewhat different feeling in my neck. The only thing I've added to my healthy diet is wheatgrass smoothies but that can't be it surely, though they both started happening at the same time. It's not overtaking my day, I can get by without thinking of it most of the time and it doesn't wake me but what would make teeth hurt if it's not infection? Have taken MMS to kill any infection in any case."

[WARNING!]  05/24/2011: Nevadasmith from Smithfield Township, Pa: "Don't play around with abscessed teeth. Someone I know had an abscessed tooth and left it untreated, the infection spread and he died of a brain infection in his early 20s.

Also, it is possible to eliminate an abscess to the point that he no longer is painful but then to have it flare up again later. Again it is best to eliminate the infection completely. Even a minor abscess at the end of a root can cause bone loss over time and you don't want that.

I am not discouraging the use of natural cures to fight the infection. I don't like taking antibiotics either but be sure that any cures you use are complete. It may be necessary to get a root canal in order to be sure. It may be best to see an endodontist."

[YEA]  03/04/2009: K.Lynn from Mt Healthy, Ohio: "a great painkiller and infection fighter for tooth/gum/abcess pain is turmeric for $4.00 or less in your local grocerie store in the spices section. I was amazed when I used it how it took away the pain and inflammation. just a teaspoon in a bowl with just enough PURIFIED WATER to make it the consistency of wet mud. You can use a cotton ball or a small cut piece of cotton cloth with a blob of wet turmeric ( careful- it is what mustard stains are made of), and place it on the tooth so it can seep between the teeth and to the abcess, the taste isn't that bad, especially when you can't sleep or anything w/o pain. If you are lying down, don't forget to take out the cotton ball/cloth before you fall asleep. Also, rinsing prior with PURIFIED WATER, 1 teaspoon of h202 (drugstore kind ok), and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda ( organic-about $3.57 a lb. bag but goes very far when using small amounts. I don't care what Arm and Hammer says, they put something in their bs because organic is MUCH more body friendly). Have the turmeric ready to go in before you rinse because it can be painful if the abcess is bad but the turmeric is also a painkiller. When I think of all the times in my life I used oragel just to cry myself to sleep-ughhh! As usual, how long it takes will depend on the severity of the infection but it sure worked for me. MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU."

[YEA]  12/11/2008: ROZ from HOUSTON, TEXAS: "Hey, I currently have a tooth abscess and it is killing me and has my cheek an mouth numb, I went to the Dr. afterwork to get antibiotics but they wouldn't give me an Rx because they said they didn't have any appointments available and needed to assess me prior to dispensing medications. When I got home I thought of the remedy for boils which according to this website is tumeric. Well, it seems to me the concept of a boil & a tooth abscess are basically the same. A boil is infection under the skin accompainied by poisonous blood and puss w/inflamation and the same with an abscess but surrounding a bad tooth. So last night when I got home in severe pain (could hardly open my mouth). I put a tsp of tumeric in some applesauce (still almost threw it up) but to my surprise the swelling went down and the pain subsided. It's late morning now and I am beginning to feel a slight discomfort, so I plan on taking more tumeric. Hope this helps someone else."

[YEA]  02/18/2007: Chris from Atlanta, GA: "After a long history of cysts infections around dead teeth in my upper jaw and several surgeries I have finally found my cure THANKS to your great site. Thursday morning my cyst got infected awfully, read about turmeric here on friday and started taking two caps right away. next morning the pain was gone except for pain when i would pressure the area. Today, Sunday, even that pain is almost completely gone and i feel like a new person! still taking 2 turmerics a day, will go down to one for the next 4 days or so and see. special thanks to FRAN."

[YEA]  01/04/2009: David from Huntington Beach, CA: "I just want to report back on some of the treatments for tooth abcess.

I had a bad crown that would bother me occasionally, but I would manage it with a mixture of half baking soda, half seasalt which I put into my blender and ground to a fine powder. You use it as toothpaste. This is an old Edgar Cayce formula for teeth and gum health, and it works great.

Anyway, it flaired up and the salt/soda combination couldn't stop it from progressing. I unfortunately was just changing from one dental plan to another so I fell between the cracks and had to wait a week to get some treatment. The pain was becoming unbearable! Anyway, I was reminded of your website so I looked it up and decided to try the slippery elm, charcoal, clove oil, baking yeast paste.

By this time it was appearent that the abcess was at the root of the tooth and was begining to push the tooth up and it seemed that the paste was unable to really penetrate into the jawbone to effect it...and the pain was getting worse! I read further in that article and the gentleman also recommened taking Turmeric and I remembered that it was ideal for boils also. So I thought, what is an abcess, but a boil in the jaw?

So I made up capsules of half turmeric and half cayanne pepper. Sure enough, within a hour or so, it started to reduce. Encouraged, I decided to go to straight Turmeric and have been taking a heaping teaspoonful in a glass of warm milk sweetened with Stevia 2-3 times a day. It actually tastes pretty good!

Bottom line is that the pain is greatly reduced and I am convinced this could completely cure this problem, but I am going to the Dentist monday anyway to get this crown properly fixed.

Turmeric has kept these last few days from being an absolute nightmare! By the way, I started taking Levaquin (a powerful antibiotic) about 5 days ago, and it did NOTHING! Thank you and thank God for this site!

David in H.B."

[YEA]  09/12/2012: Dansdoll from Rosevile, Ca: "I used multiple things to help draw the infection out. I used tea bags and hot salt water. However when bedtime came around I was ready for some pain relief. What really worked for me was Turmeric. I got the loose powder and put in some distilled water to make a paste and packed it into the cavity hole. It works but when I realized I wanted a little more relief I had the idea to make the Turmeric paste and add two drops of Eugenol (clove oil) into the paste. That really did the trick. The turmeric paste held the clove oil in place for a numbing effect while also reducing inflammation and I was able to sleep all night."

[YEA]  06/10/2009: Fingz from Barcelona, Spain: "Turmeric, Salt, Clove and Garlic cured my abscess

2 years ago my former dentist did a half-assed job on my root canal. I have had problems ever since, with infections every few months. A few days ago I woke up in incredible pain, the worst I'd ever experienced. Immediately went to the dentist and he put me on antibiotics, but there seemed to be no solution to the immediate pain I was in. Took ibuprofen, nothing. Tried vicadin, zilch.

So I did a little research and finally got some relief by putting a chewed clove right next to the infection - instantly the pain began to ease up, but the swelling would not go down. I tried gargling with listerine, using warm compresses, but to little effect.

Finally I hit the jackpot.

1 cup of warm water
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon turmeric

I gargled/swished with this for literally 10 seconds, and the boil just opened up and all the garbage literally shot right out - didn't even need to apply any pressure. With the abscess drained I applied a slice of fresh garlic to the opening, which stung like hell, but it has also helped the infection and reduced swelling. I could actually chew food again!

I returned to the dentist today and he was astonished at how much this thing has cleared up. Granted there is no saving the tooth now, and I will definitely need to get it pulled. But I am thankful to have found relief in the interim and hope this remedy helps some other poor soul out there.

Nobody deserves this type of pain!"

[YEA]  08/19/2007: Stephanie from Montgomery, AL: "Warm salt water works at onset of pain, I believe it prevents infection, I have yet to have worse pain after salt water, it just goes away. Hydrogen peroxide is an anticeptic and It works for my husband. As far as the antibiotics, unfortunately many people are allergic to penicillin such as myself as well as kefelx, so there is not a whole lot left that works on abscess tooth. There is e-mycin/biaxin, but they give me horrible stomach cramps. I think natural antibiotics are great, they work better for me. I prefer them over the harsh antibiotics that I am not allergic to.

Also, if you take a lot of antibiotics your body builds an imunity to those antibiotics eventually. That is why diseases, flu's, ect., are getting worse, they are becoming resistant to antibiotics. It also strips away the bio-flora in the lining in your stomach, which can cause a long list of health problems itself, yeast infections, reflux..

however, if it doesnt get better and reoccurs frequently you should not play around with not seeing a dentist, a tooth infection untreated can easily infect the blood stream, causing septicemia, weakening the heart, and could kill you."
