make a cup of your favorite tea, add a slice of lemon, lemon juice, 2-3 tablespoons of honey and add aloe vera juice, you can mix some ginger or cinnamon in too if you want: It works great! my throat cleared up overnight.

Hot tea with Ginger does help some with sore throat pain, but avoid sugar as it will only aggravate the congestion. A warm salty water gargle is also helpful and recomended by MD's, DO's, homeopathic and my late mother.

Drinking tea always works for me. I usually drink mine with french vanilla creamer and sugar. It tastes good and it helps my throat very well.

i say drinking a hot cup of tea cures a sore throat. and to open an blocked nose, the cheap way is to inhale steam when you boil some water in a kettle.

An effective remedy is a hot cup of tea with three drops of lozenges (Vicks or Equate). Personally, I prefer Vicks. Ingredients:
1. Hot Cup of Tea (Before adding sugar, place one drop of the desired cough/sore throat suppressant).
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Add 3 teaspoons of sugar.
4. Stir tea for 10 seconds. (This allows the menthol to mix with the tea and drop to dissolve).
5. Then add 2 more drops of the cough/sore throat drop.
6. Wait 10 seconds and it's done and ready to consume.

If done accurately, you should be able to smell the menthol vapors from about a foot away. I should also warn you that the 1/4 of tea left in the cup will be the very strong and may taste equivalent to that of a cough syrup (not as harsh) but it works. With 2 or 3 cups of this, you should be ready to go. Enjoy.

I have tried many things and although hot tea can be soothing on the throat you don't want too much caffeine or you may just over due yourself and you need rest but one thing you definitely want to stay away from as much as possible is sugar(with the possible exception of Honey) as it literally tears down ones immune system. So far Hydrogen Peroxide is the only thing that really worked for me although warm salt water worked for a few minutes but didn't last. I have heard a lot of positive things about Cayenne Pepper but haven't tried it yet.

For a sore throat use hyssop tea (prepare according to directions) and honey to sweeten as often as needed.

Ice for sore throat. Ice; plain and simple. I have bad sinuse drainage which can really irrtate my throat which can lead to an infection. I can wake up with needles in my throat. Chop up the ice and suck on pieces in the back of your mouth. I don't have an ice crusher so I put cubes in a clean dish towel and whack them with a hammer. This always works. Sometimes with only one treatment.

I have a couple family favorites to share. #1. Icy Hot rubbed "sparingly" on the full length of the front of your neck then wrap a hand towel around your neck and pin it with a safty pin so it stays in place. Go to bed and the next morning your sore throat is usually gone. You may want to do a test spot on your neck to see how sensitive your skin is to the Icy Hot. It will warm up your neck and possibly be uncomfortable for 5 to 10 minutes then it calms down and feels soothing. #2 The other remedies we have used successfully to fight a sore throat are gargling with Colloidal Silver or Grapefruit Extract. These are two of the strongest and safest (non-toxic) natural antibiotics available. To your health!

I'm 64, when I was a kid my mom would literally paint my tonsils with Iodine or Merthiolate...

While you write of Iodine painting the outside, she used her fingers and a cotton ball dipped in iodine, stuck her fingers down our throat(s), and quickly swiped around the Uvula. We gagged and it was over. Our sore throat(s) and any lingering disease causing germs were wiped out in a flash.

Question(s): Has the Iodine and Merthiolate available to our mother back in the 60's and 70's changed? Now I only find a tincture that has a warning "for external use only" which is higher in alcohol content than iodine and/or a tincture for thyroid with various inactive ingredients.

Does anyone know what the formulation was back in the 60's and 70's?

Over the past 6 months since discovering Earth Clinic I have revised how I deal with health issues. Waking up with a sore throat I would generally have tried an OTC remedy. I decided to gargle a few drops of iodine in a teaspoon of filtered water. I thank God it worked within 30 minutes to alleviate my pain. VOILA!

I have tonsillitis with tonsil exulates (could be strep, but the pain isn't severe enough, though I have been taking wild oregano oil internally that would have been fighting the infection).

My throat was really hurting to swallow, and I had mucus sitting at the back of my throat that I couldn't get rid of (I don't have a cold, cough and bad allergies right now). It made my mouth taste awful. I read that applying iodine to your wrists and also gargling with a diluted solution can help. I did it last night, and not only did I wake up with my throat much less sore, but the feeling of mucus at the back is nearly entirely gone as well as the bad taste. I used Nascent Iodine, but I believe Lugol's can be used as well.

I now understand the meaning of the old saying "prevention is worth a pound of cure". Doing this regularly once or twice a week may help prevent a sore throat. 8 to 10 oz. water with one lemon squeezed in the water. Drink this with a straw. The lemon may eat the enamel off your teeth so use the straw. If your throat is scratchy do this. Do it at the onset of a sore throat and use 600 to 900 mg of garlic tablets. I use 1200mg and some time 2000mg. Wala your cured of your sore throat. If you do this before you get this you can prevent it.

Lemon Juice and Sea Salt

Posted by Martha (Dallas, Texas Usa) on 09/09/2010

I recently read Ted's post regarding sea salt and lemon juice and had an opportunity to try it out earlier in the week when, during a plane trip home, I developed chills and a sore throat. Normally, by this time (several days later), I would have a raging sinus infection. But, as soon as I was home, I took the 2 t. Sea salt/lemon juice (with a dash of baking soda) and water as described. Slept pretty well that night, and have repeated the solution for 3 days now, feeling improvement each day. Today I not only feel recovered but also energized. My question is how often is it safe to do this on a regular basis? Once or twice a day? Once a week? I would love to know as I am about to travel internationally and this would be a great remedy (or preventive?) that would not be too hard to obtain overseas. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site as I have learned so much and am still learning.

If you juice 12 of a cup of lime and little by little you let it stay in your throat as long as you can and then swallow it will also give you great results.

Listerine

Sore throat, I just take 1/2 tsp of listerine "original", hold my head up and pour it down, keep looking up and let it trickle down, and if it doesn't work, do it again in 2 hours.

It kills a sore throat almost every time. I had a bad one the other day and did it, but the next day it bothered me again so I did it once and bang gone 3rd day now and no problems.

Remember 1/2 teaspoon, and good to go :) It might work for a virus also, don't know about that though, might try it, it kills germs!
