Sore Throat Cures
CAYENNE PEPPER ADDITIONAL RECIPES
[YEA] 12/28/2007: PeppaLady from Orlando, FL writes: "I came upon your site due to being congested and having the worse sore throat ever. Tried ACV first, and got some relief, but only about an hour's worth. I read all of the posts on cayenne and decided that one was next, but did not have any of the pepper. I remembered that it is in hot sauce, so i mixed up a tea. I boiled some water, and then added a shake or two of ground ginger, a tablespoon of hot sauce, a tsp of oregano, a tablespoon of honey, tablespoon of lemon juice and a green tea teabag. I let it steep for about 5 minutes. What i had was a concoction... "liquid fire" and about 30 minutes after drinking, no sore throat and nasal passages were draining. The next morning i was surprised to still be clear. Thanks for posting this idea."

in glass pour about 2-4oz water (for diluting purposes [gonna try ACV next time]),
1 whole lemon (not those dry lemons we want some juice here),
1-2 Tbsp of honey (natural honey none of those syrup mixed ones) and cayenne (lots of it)
I usually put cayenne till it's red (remember were going for the blood and endorphin rush here). Bottoms up! (this is a shot) There still hasn't been a cold to pass the 3 day mark with this stuff."

CAYENNE PEPPER AND GROUND GINGER
[YEA] 12/28/2006: Janeene from Saginaw, MI writes: "I have used this remedy for YEARS and can tell you, IT WORKS!! The only thing that I do different is, I add an equal amount of ground ginger along with the cayenne pepper into a cup of HOT water and allow it to steep with a lid on the cup for 5 minutes. Then allow it to cool to a comfortable temperature (or add a little cold water) and gargle. This may seem time consuming when you are in a lot of pain but it is worth the wait! Allowing it to steep like that makes sure the spices are at their best. The cayenne brings the blood to the throat helping circulation for those well needed "healing soldiers" and the ginger calms the throat and helps reduce the swelling. I sometimes drink this as a tea on those cold winter nights to help me stay warm! For you hunters out there...sprinkle cayenne in your socks to keep your feet warm out in the field. The moisture from your feet activates the heat of the pepper keeping those toes TOASTY!!! CAYENNE PEPPER IS THE BEST!"

CAYENNE PEPPER, LICORICE ROOT AND HONEY
[YEA] 05/04/2007: Sabrina from Canada writes: "An oldie but a goodie, my recipe is a little different. Mix vinegar of any variety with a spoonful of cayenne, a spoonful of licorice root, and a small amount of RAW honey. Drink it back - the sore throat will go away shortly. The raw honey is great because honey has natural antiseptic properties, and it makes the mix a little easier to drink!"

CAYENNE PEPPER: IS IT A NATURAL BLOOD THINNER?
[NAY] 06/01/2007: Karenna from SF, CA writes: "Cayenne is NOT unsafe per one of your feedback customers. I recently found your website in some research I am doing on Cayenne and Lymph, but was a little disconcerted to see that you published someone's testimonial warning others not to use cayenne if they do not want their blood thinned.
Cayenne is used in midwifery and in other instances when needed to stop hemorrhaging, and has the ability to correct and balance both ends of many circulation issues. It will assist in dissolving clots as well as stopping bleeding, and it will -- over time -- correct both high and low blood pressure.
I suggest to all readers that when it comes to benefits and contraindications of herbs and medications, that they exhaustive research, or at least more than they think is necessary, to discover what they need to know for their particular situation or those for whom they are caring."

When I feel the sore throat coming on, I suck on 2 cloves, biting on them just a little so that the oil form within gets released. I keep it in my mouth for q hour or so, 3 thimes a day. And the sore throat is gone within 12 hours. I've never had to go to a doctor for this condition even as a child....the cure is there right at home."

Also, I've been introduced to Oil of Oregano. I started with 1 drop in the cod liver oil, because it is soooo potent. I mix it well and take, letting the spicy hot numbing effect do its work in my mouth and throat. I now take 3 drops at a time."

1 YEA[YEA] 10/01/2007: Margaret (angelwithadvice@yahoo.com) from Andrews, north carolina writes: "OK, I've not gotten around to trying any of the remedies posted on this site, nor have I looked at ALL of them. But I do have a temporary cure for soothing a sore throat that I would like to share. I have a sore throat right now, now I was trying something that I have to get rid of it. What I did was this:
2 table spoons of corn liquor
1 table spoon pure lemon juice (mine was freshly squeezed).
Mix the corn liquor and lemon juice for about thirty seconds so it is well blended. Down half of it, wait fifteen seconds and down the other half. the taste, unless you like the liquor or lemon juice is horrible, but it numbs te pain almost immediately and depending on how quiet you are able to stay depends on how long it works. For me, I had to start getting after my kids and it got kinda loud so it only worked 15 to 20 minutes. I'd try some more but my tolerance for alcohol is really low and corn liquor is the strongest I've ever drank. I hope my remedy works for others though, I don't recommend any one using it for kids."

1 YEA[YEA] Donovan from Nassau, Bahamas writes: "An effective remedy is a hot cup of tea with three drops of lozenges (Vicks or Equate). Personally, I prefer Vicks. Ingredients:
1. Hot Cup of Tea (Before adding sugar, place one drop of the desired cough/sore throat suppressant).
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Add 3 teaspoons of sugar.
4. Stir tea for 10 seconds. (This allows the menthol to mix with the tea and drop to dissolve).
5. Then add 2 more drops of the cough/sore throat drop.
6. Wait 10 seconds and it's done and ready to consume.
If done accurately, you should be able to smell the menthol vapors from about a foot away. I should also warn you that the 1/4 of tea left in the cup will be the very strong and may taste equivalent to that of a cough syrup (not as harsh) but it works. With 2 or 3 cups of this, you should be ready to go. Enjoy."

1 YEA[YEA] 03/18/2005: Christine from London writes: "The Lemon and Honey tea worked but only for around half an hour. I have a cure which lasts longer: Crush black currants to get the juice out but try not to get any of the skin in with the juice. Put it in a mug and heat it until it is is hot, but not so hot you cannot drink it. Then just drink your sore throat away! If you are rushed for time then you could use a store bought blackcurrant juice drink such as Ribeana, which works just as well. The soothing is quite long lasting but depending on how bad your sore throat/laryngitis is you may need to have more than one mug. (YOU CAN HAVE AS MANY AS YOU NEED AS IT IS NOT MEDICINE BASED)."

1 YEA[YEA] 09/12/2006: Sarah from Didcot, Oxfordshire, UK writes: "I think that bacteria/viruses in my throat need sugar and peace and quiet to multiply. I stop supplying sugar by ceasing to eat sugary food/drink. This means no cough sweets! I physically remove the bacteria/viruses from my throat by frequently eating non-sugary food. They are then being taken down to my stomach where they cause no trouble! I focus on drinking water, not abrasive teas or coffees. I find eating apples very helpful too, especially when I get woken up in the night with a tickly cough! Take an apple to bed and just reach out for it each time you wake. Now I just get a sore throat/cold and then it heals under a week, no more hacking coughs for weeks afterwards. Best wishes."

3 YEA[YEA] 06/24/2007: Lena from Seattle, Washington writes: "Epsom salt foot baths really work for sore throats. Soak your feet in a tub of water with about a cup of epsom salts, hot as you can stand for about 20 mins. Then dry your feet and put on two pairs of socks, woollen socks if you have them over a pair of thin cotton socks and go to bed. Each time I've done this my sore throat is gone by morning. Persistent sore throats can return though, so it's good to do the cayenne pepper gargle/ACV cayenne tea during the day if it comes back, and the espsom salt footbath at night before bed."

3 tablespoons of ginger paste
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons of honey
Boil up the water then mix it with the ginger paste and keep mixing for 5 minutes. Add the honey then drink the mixture whenever you feel that you can stand the heatness of the water. Do the same thing for 5 to 8 times a day and I guarantee you that the pain will go away 100% as you drink the second cup, and in the last cup the sore-throat will vanish."

1 YEA[YEA] 01/22/2008: Shreeram Balijepalli from Schenectady, NY,USA writes: "Dear All, I had sore throat and so did my baby girl. Both of us tried many remedies and since my girl is just 6 months old we did not know what to do. I tried after reading from the site cayenne-gargling,saltwater gargling,Tabasco sauce, etc. Finally, one thing worked for both of us!! I used Haritaki powder(available in almost all Indian stores). It is a very cheap powder($2.39 or so).It is very bitter powder. Biological name is called Terminalia chebulam (Black Myrobalan in English). Black Myrobalan powder is also available in some health stores but Indian stores offers best price. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haritaki
I mixed it with honey and rubbed it on to my tounge(end portion near my throat). After some time, phelgm came out. In the case of my baby, I did the same but with small quantity. She barfed within 2 mintues and the full phelgm which she had for 2 months came out as if "manna from heaven". So, you may try it out if nothing works"

1 YEA[YEA] 10/03/2007: Meg from Lome, Togo writes: "Hi. I was reading all the responses to your Cayenne cure for sore throats and I wanted to share a cure I learned also works well: you can chew a spoonful of honeycomb. Not just plain honey, but honey still packaged the way bees make it, with the beeswax. I read of this cure in an old book of folk remedies from Vermont (when I lived in Wisconsin). I didn't believe it but a while after reading it I began to catch a cold, with my throat all scratchy and aching so it hurt to swallow. I tried this remedy, and what do you know -- after a minute or so of chewing my throat was clear and pain-free. That nice effect lasted about half an hour, then the symptoms began to return -- so I tried a second time and that cleared it up for good. I was amazed how well it worked. I'm also happy to know a second remedy to try too, since it is not so easy to get honeycomb over here in Togo. Honey is also a great for healing burns and infections -- if you search online you'll find plenty of information."
