ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  03/24/2010: Michael from Gadsden, Alabama writes: "Can I use activated charcoal to rid my body including the bones of the build up of fluoride? Does activated
charcoal cleanse the body or treat the body for fluoride poisoning? Will a water filter with activated charcoal purify the water of fluoride? Right now I feel fine by it has done damage to my teeth and I can only imagine what shape my skeletal system is in. Please, if you can answer my questions or point me to someone who may be able to help me. I would be very appreciative of that.

Respectfully,
Michael"

03/25/2010: Mark from Toronto, Ontario replies: "I could be wrong but I don't think Activated Charcoal (AC) will help you with that.

From what I understand AC works by sticking to unwanted matter in your gut and aiding elimination. Fluoride poisoning is not restricted to your gut, it's systemic. I don't think AC has any effect to other parts of your body other than the inside of your digestive system. Does anyone else know?"

03/26/2010: Pr from Houston, Texas, Usa replies: "Hi Michael, Everything I have read states charcoal will not remove fluoride from your body. You can verify this by searching this on the internet. Borax will however remove fluoride from your body. Earth Clinic has a ton of information on how to use Borax to remove fluoride. Be sure and take you time to read the info so you will completely understand the process and for how long. I think I read it was 6 months but not sure. Good luck."

ALOE VERA JUICE

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/28/2007: Dorothee Krien from Cork City, Ireland writes: "I moved to Ireland where the public water supply is fluoridated. A single cup of fluoridated water gives me an extreme headache - I suffer from multiple chemcial sensitivity. I try to avoid drinking fluoridated water as much as possible, but soemtimes it is simply impolite to refuse an offered cup of tea or coffee. By chance I found that fresh aloe vera helps me to get rid of the headache. I notice the prematurely aged skin of most Irish women, most of whom have the genetic make-up for beautiful skin. A' female friend with a very beautiful skin - she is in her fifties - told me that she has been taking aloe vera juice for the past fifteen years."

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  04/25/2010: Roland from Exeter, Uk writes: "Hi,

I would like to know if I ad 1/4 tsp of borax to 1 L regular tap water, than it will neutralize the fluoride and other heavy metals and other impurities found in the water?

How long can I take the combination of 1/4 tsp. of borax 1 L water? can I take it for the rest of my life, everyday?

What is exactly the protocol to clean the body from fluoride and other heavy metals? Thank you"

04/28/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Roland...You can certainly leech out the fluoride from your body using borax. Borax also acts as one of the best fungal killers and also kills bacteria as well as balances the hormones and is also good for bone.

A more complete regimen to clear all dangerous halides from your body -- that's fluorides, bromides and chlorides -- is simply to take iodine. You can supplement iodine taking either Iodoral tablets or Lugol's iodine or simply use iodine foot-painting with tincture of iodine(as I do). Iodine will also leech out lead and mercury from your body as well.

Ways to clear heavy metals are -- take cilantro (chinese parsely, coriander leaf) three times a week in salads or just drink green tea several times a day. You can also take take sodium thiosulfate regularly to rid heavy metals from your body. See the relevant section here:

Sodium Thiosulfate Heavy Metal Detox

If you are using borax to clear fluorides then it is sensible to take this protocol for four days on with three days off every week."

[YEA]  05/25/2009: Denise from Biloxi, Mississippi writes: "Fibro/Flouride

A brief history. 7 years ago thyroid cancer, the next year adrenal fatigue then early menopause, the following year uterine prolapsed followed by hysterectomy- the following year fibromyalgia and neuropathy. Early Childhood was fluorinated water along with fluoride tablets. Fall of 2008 I was looking at total disability. I could barely walk and couldn't sleep because of the pain and was throwing up daily from the pain in my back. I was on many medications that gave me no relief and I have since found out that they had fluoride as a binding agent. I was sure that my life was over at 45, but thanks to Ted and Earthclinic I am almost at 100%. After reading about fluoride I came to understand where all of my problems originated. I had all the symptoms and reactions. It has been an uphill battle with my doctors and relatives, but you can't argue with a body that is almost pain free. I began the borax detox of 1/8 tsp in a liter of water and within 3 days my symptoms were almost gone. I watch everything I eat and can detect fluoride in vitamins, foods and drinks within 15 minutes of ingesting it. I still suffer from the neuropathy and some pain from the neuropathy but I am off all meds and I have my life. I only wish more people would try to understand the fluoride connections. My sister and mother both suffer with side effects of fluoride and I have only been able to influence my mother. I still borax 5 days on and two days off and give my body a break every month or so for about a week. Thank you :)"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/15/2009: Dave from Surrey, BC writes: "I slowly went from 1/32 teaspoon to 1/4 teaspoon dose borax to remove fluoride from the body. I quit after about 2 days on the 1/4 teaspoon dose. I mixed it properly in pure water according to the directions that I found here. I had to go off of the borax due to aches and pains in the testicles, kidneys, and head. I was very frightened, especially about that kidney pains. Unfortunately, the pains indicated damage. I now, months afterwards, have pain in the kidneys every day, and I have actually LOST almost all of my sex drive. The pains indicated damage that seems permanent. Being prediabetic, perhaps I shouldn't have risked kidney damage!!!! But I miss my sex drive more. It's gone, and borax is not only as toxic as salt to me. Not by far."

04/15/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "This is not the correct way to do it. The proper method is to dissolve the borax 1/32 teaspoon to 1/4 teaspoon in ONE LITER of drinking water and drink throughout the day. It was not designed to take in pure powder form, usually to rid of autoimmunity disease or a known fluoride poisoning. In rabbit test the dose is roughly lower than this concentration to protect against fluoride poisoning when they added lethal dose of fluoride.

Ted"

04/15/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "A woman's dose is 1/8, a man's dose is 1/4 dissolved in one liter of drinking water. I can't say much about this poster since sufficient details are not mentioned, except for the fact that he's prediabetic, which borax has a tendency to normalize blood sugar. So I find this posting fishy on many points. A lot of people through private emails actually take a much larger dose that this.

Loss of sex drive has never been reported except for fluoride. Most report an increase in sex drive. Most of the problems reported are associated with boric acid, not borax because boric is acid. Acid eats up kidney, whether it's boric acid or acid forming foods in general.

So I have many regrets on this email. A genuine poster would also email directly to me before posting them and give sufficient details. An intentionally fake poster will report unusual side effects, lacking in sufficient details, on Earth Clinic without telling me. So you can see why I find this a suspicious post.

Ted"

EC: We had emailed Ted for more thoughts about this post. The above is his 2nd response...

03/20/2010: Flouride-buster from Portland, Or replies: "Dave from Surrey may of indeed been poisoned by boric acid use instead of borax as you suggested. And I'm sorry to point out that in the article's references notated under

"A STUDY OF ANTIDOTES FOR FLUORINE S. MARCOVITCH 1 and W. W. STANLEY 1"

you will read that "Boric acid also has some value as an antidote through the formation of a fluoborate." The problem is that this is a pesticide used to kill roaches and ants and there needs to be a warning posted to prevent future misuse of this information! Thank you."

[YEA]  04/27/2008: Julia from Brooksville, FL writes: "Most of my adult life I've suffered from stomach problems. And in research of natural cures and flouride poisoning I came across this wonderful website. Anyway, I started the BORAX treatment for flouride because I've been having problems with my knees. I tell ya, I don't know if it's the power of the mind or what, but 2 days of the BORAX treatment and my knees that have been bothering me for the past two months stopped hurting and I can walk again without pain. Haven't tried anything for the stomach yet. But I will now. Expecially after coming across this website and PH levels in the stomach and flouride absorbtion. WOW! Check it out for yourself! http://jdr.iadrjournals.org/cgi/reprint/72/3/619.pdf"

04/30/2008: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Actually the worse problem that causes a knee problems are that wheat, sugar, chlorinated water, tomatoes and aspartame products are some of the most acid forming foods I found, leads to a knee problem. So alkalization and borax will neutralize the inflammation and pain. Acid forming foods are pro-inflammatory."

11/03/2008: Chris from Woodland Hills, CA replies: "Where can you buy borax? I thought that it was a laundry detergent."

EC: More information here: http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/borax.html

11/03/2008: Edith from West Palm Beach, FL replies: "This is a comment for Chris (11/03/2008) regarding the borax. Hi Chris, the Borax is in the laundry detergent section in the store. First time when I have found the Borax in the laundry detergent section in the local grocery store I was surprised. I am from another country so I was clueless what is the borax. I asked the pharmacist what he thinks if I put a tiny Borax to my drinking water. He didn't seem surprised he said people using the Borax for different kind of weird reasons probably it will kill the bacteria in my water. I am using the 20 Mule Team Borax (chemical name is Sodium Tetraborate Decahydrate) with very good result. I am using it treating Candida and knee arthritis. Regards, Edith"

02/04/2009: Rich from Boca Raton, FL replies: "Iodine supplementation markedly increases urinary excretion of fluoride and bromide - Letters to the Editor
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_2003_May/ai_100767875

"With 3 tablets, the 24h excretion of fluoride was 17.5 times baseline level; and for bromide, 18 times baseline level. These high levels persisted even after one month of supplementation at 3 tablets/day, being 15 times baseline level for fluoride, and 16 times for bromide. After one month, the estimated total amount of halide excreted was 24 mg fluoride and 8700mg bromide."

05/19/2009: Carly from Warren, Mi replies: "Tumeric (the spice) works to STOP inflammation, use it in your food or fill empty capsules with it. Try about 1/2 teaspoon twice a day...Adjust quantity as needed, works almost immediately. Black Walnut (herbal) will kill parasites, usually the cause of inflammation, they don't test for parasites in this country & everyone has parasites. This is the first time I've read about Borax being ingested to remove fluoride. That's probably why it's called "folk remedies"... Nice website."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  04/07/2008: Bev from Elroy, WI writes: "I have continued the borax detox for fluoride toxicity 1-2 times per week. I had reduced my thyroid dose as my pulse rate was elevated which I thought was improvement of thyroid function. I don't think this was the case. Shortly after I had reduced to 2 1/2 from 3 1/2 grains, reducing 1/2 grain every two weeks, I began to experience fatigue again. Stayed at 3 gr. for about 10 more weeks and began having worsening of symtoms, muscle pains, hair loss, dry eyes, weight gain etc. This week I plan to consult with Dr. John Lowe regarding the possiblily of thyroid resistance and switching from Armour to Cytomel [T3]."

[YEA]  09/11/2007: Bev from Elroy, Wisconsin writes: "After reading the info on fluoride on Earth Clinic I realised that the onset of my severe hypothyroid symptoms of extreme fatigue, weight gain, hair loss etc. was caused by taking repeated doses of Flucanazole to prevent yeast during repeated antibiotics for acute asthma [healed after 90 days on Zithromax]. My TSH [thyroid stimulating hormone] is less than .01 which shows hyperthyroidism so I have had a hard time finding a doctor willing to treat me. Now I know it is because the fluoride inhibits the pituitary gland from producing TSH. I live in a fluoridated community so my exposure has been long term. For several years I have had reverse osmosis water but it is very disappointing to find there is no acceptable whole house removal system. It was recommended to me to take cool showers as skin absorption is greater than drinking. I am hoping to convince our city council to drop the fluoride. I was happy to hear that borax can be used for detox. Yesterday I mixed 1/8 tsp of borax and sea salt in one L of water. During the night I awoke with a headache. By morning it was so bad that I vomited the aspirin, snack and enzymes I took to combat it. I couldn't keep anything other than sips down without dry heaves until early evening.I am thinking that is a detox reaction. I am going to hold off another day and dilute it further. I currently take Armour Thyroid and about $400 of supplements, mainly enzymes to prevent reflux, keep spinal alignment, joint stiffness, fatigue, sinus infections, constipation, hair loss and all those other nasty hypothyroid effects. I was also taking the apple cider vinegar and baking soda [about 8 days now] at the same time so may be that was too much at once with the borax. I will keep you posted on my progress. Thank you for this wonderful website."

BORAX AND SEA SALT

1 YEA

[YEA]  09/08/2007: Pamela from City Withheld, Washington writes: "I have suffered with Fibromyalgia/Rosacea and TMJ for over 10 years... My first symptoms appeared shortly after I began taking Paxil. After about 8 months when I found the Paxil side effects intolerable, my doctor switched me to Prozac. Well...within 2 years, I had gained 75 pound, couldn't get my temperature to a normal 98.6 (it wouldn't budge above 96.6), broke out with a fierce case of Rosacea (skin blistering & pealing in layers off my cheeks), was chronically fatigued and suffered from TMJ symptoms.

After reading the FLUORIDE information on EarthClinc and researching the chemical formulas of the many antidepressants that I had taken over the last 10 years, I had an epiphany...My problem was FLUORIDE!!! Incidentally, the' symptoms of FLUORIDE TOXICITY are the same as Fibromyalgia so it wasn't surprising to learn that FLUORIDE is the primary ingredient in MANY widely prescribed antidepressants, including PAXIL and PROZAC!!!

Without delay, I began adding 1/8 tsp of BORAX and 1/8 tsp of NATURAL (UN-bleached) SEA SALT to a liter of
DE-CLORINATED water. This regimine just happens to both neutralize the FLUORIDE and KILL the nasty mites that cause Rosacea.

I began drinking 1 liter per day for 5 days. On the 2 off days, I simply drank purified, bottled spring water.

The results were nothing short of MIRACULOUS, within two weeks my face cleared, the redness faded and best of all, my temperature normalized TO 98.6 and my energy level began to steadily increased. (Do expect the break out to get worse before it gets better as the mites die off.)

In just one month, without dieting or changing my daily routine (other than adding BORAX & SEA SALT to my drinking water), I dropped 4 pounds and I continue to drop weight at about a pound a week. I attribute this to my increased body temperature and elevated metabolism.

ALSO...when I eliminated the FLUORIDE in my toothpaste, my gums stopped swelling and bleeding and all PREVIOUS phantom tooth/jaw pain simply disappeared.

Thank you, EarthClinc and Ted...The information you shared has truely been a blessing in my life...I wholeheartedly encourage anyone that is suffering with FIBROMYALGIA, CHRONIC FATIGUE, TMJ or ROSACEA to try this simple remedy as I have had only POSITIVE results and absolutely NO SIDE EFFECTS!!!

Incidently, this BORAX & SEA SALT water is extremely ALKALINE with a pH between 8 - 9 pH."

BORAX AND TAMARIND

1 YEA

[YEA]  02/27/2008: Carol from La Verne, CA writes: "I've followed Ted's remedy regarding fluoride poisoning. I noticed that the neck and back pain only disappeared when I used the Tamarind powder with the Borax. I've been leaching with the borax for at least 30 weeks now. The symptom that seems to be resistant is the restless leg syndrome that appeared after my last stilt with anti-depressants chalked full of fluoride. My question is will the restless leg ever disappear? I take calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium, iodine and b-complex. From researching it is recommended to take iron but I have cancer and can not. The pulsing in my leg keep me awake at night and depress my activities 70%. It's not just pulsing but it is the weakness that goes with the pulsing. Does anyone recover from fluoride poisoning completely?"

BORON (BORAX) and TAMARIND

08/27/2007: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "As per your request for research references regarding the antidote of fluoride poisoning, there is both the use of borax to remove fluoride and also the use of tamarind used to increase fluoride excretion as an antidote to fluoride poisoning. Most of the boron antidote was taken from research of Elsair, et.al. as follows:

"Boron effectively counteracts symptoms of fluoride intoxication in humans (Zhou et al. 1987) and in experimentally poisoned rabbits (Elsair et al. 1980a, 1980b, 1981). Men suffering from skeletal fluorosis experienced 50 to 80% improvement after drinking solutions containing 300 to 1,100 mg of borax/L daily, 3 weeks a month for 3 months (Zhou et al. 1987). Boron enhances sequestration of fluoride from bone and excretion through kidneys and possibly the intestinal tract (Elair et al. 1980a, 1981)"

Many of these research are not well known in U.S., but it's there if you dig hard enough. The details of research description regarding the experiment is no longer found in webpages however, I still have the references material based on that reading here.

P.S. Boron is found in borax. Sometimes I use the word boron to emphasize that there is boron in borax. Borax is a compound form of boron, with oxygen and sodium attached.

A STUDY OF ANTIDOTES FOR FLUORINE S. MARCOVITCH 1 and W. W. STANLEY 1

1 From the Department of Entomology, Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Tennessee, Knoxville

The fluoborates when fed in powdered form were found to be non-toxic to both rats and insects. In solution enough fluorine is liberated to produce toxic effects.

Both aluminum sulphate and hydrated lime are capable of saving animals from a lethal dose of sodium fluoride when mixed with the latter. Boric acid also has some value as an antidote through the formation of a fluoborate. The aluminum sulphate forms cryolite which was found to be much less toxic. When aluminum sulphate is mixed with the sodium fluoride and used as a roach powder, a lower kill is obtained than with sodium fluoride alone.

Research on Tamarind and Fluoride Removal:

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effect of tamarind (Tamarindus indicus) ingestion on excretion of fluoride in school children.

Design: Randomized, diet-control study.

Subject: Twenty healthy boys were included and 18 of them completed the study.

Interventions: Each subject consumed 10 g tamarind daily with lunch for 18 days at the social welfare boys' hostel. The nutrient composition of the daily diet was constant throughout the experimental period.

Results: Tamarind intake led to significant increase (P<0.001) in the excretion of fluoride in 24 h urine (4.8%uFFFD0.22 mg/day) as compared to excretion on control diet (3.5%uFFFD0.22 mg/day). However, excretion of magnesium and zinc decreased significantly (7.11%uFFFD1.48 mg of Mg and 252.88%uFFFD12.84 %uFFFDg of Zn per day on tamarind diet as compared to 23.39%uFFFD3.68 mg of Mg and 331.78%uFFFD35.31 %uFFFDg Zn per day on control diet). Excretion of calcium and phosphorous were not significantly different while creatinine excretion decreased with tamarind intake (225.66%uFFFD81 mg creatinine/day with tamarind and 294.5%uFFFD78.76 mg creatinine/day without tamarind).

Conclusion: Tamarind intake is likely to help in delaying progression of fluorosis by enhancing urinary excretion of fluoride.

Boron as antidote to fluoride: effect on bones and claws in subacute intoxication of rabbits

Elsair J, Merad R, Denine R, Azzouz M, Khelfat K, Hamrour M, Alamir B, Benali S, Reggabi M

Laboratories of Physiology, Toxicology and Galenic Pharmacy, Medical Institute, Algiers, Algeria

Summary: Rabbits were "subacutely" intoxicated by administration of 30 mg/kg/day of fluoride for 3 months followed by 15 mg/kg/day for a subsequent 3 months (F). Boron was given alone (B) as preventive and simultaneously with fluoride prophylactically (F Bp), as well as therapeutically namely midway during the experimental period (F Bpc) while fluoride was being administered and after it was discontinued (Bc compared with fluoirde interuption F*), at a constant F/B ratio. All groups were compared to normal controls.

Boron administered during fluoride intoxication or after its interruption, reduces fluoremia and increases urinary fluoride excretion. Skeletal fluoride levels are directly relatd to those of claws. They bear no relationship to fluoride in hair. The high fluoride content in bone in lot F decreases with addition of boron. It is still high in lot F* but returns to normal in loc Bc. Calcium content of bones remains normal in all lots. Posterior pad radiography shows a cortical thickness in lot F which is less pronounced in lots F Bpc and F*, and returns to normal in lot Bc."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Actually boron has a high binding to fluoride too, much like tamarind which binds strongly to fluoride. Tamarind gel and tamarind while it binds strongly to fluoride don't seem to cause deposition of fluoride and seems to further remove additional fluoride in the body.

There is also a dog study that showed increase fluoride excretion despite the high fluoride of the tamarind, to cause fluoride deposited in the bones to be removed and helped avoid fluorosis. Of course, I am a bit of a purist and prefer the borax remedy without the fluoride binding, and allow the boron itself to bind the fluoride when it is taken for the fluoride removal process. Some people may lean with more natural products such as taking tamarind might be ideal in case of a food poisoning or fluorosis, provided of course tamarind are easy to find."

10/26/2007: Lois from Chicago, USA replies: "I don't know that Tamarind is so good for fluroide poisoning. Take a look at this website. It says that Tamarind has a very high fluoride count. That's why when people eat it, lots of fluoride comes out in the urine. http://bruha.com/pfpc/html/tamarind.html"

04/18/2010: Slybrood7 from Union City, Nj, Usa replies: "My question is, after all my research in fluoride detox. Using borax seems like one the best over the counter ways, Boron is its main compound that is used for the detox process. What if I were to just use liquid Boron for the detox instead of using borax."

05/18/2010: Ted from Bankok, Thailand replies: "Liquid boron is made from boric acid, and its toxicity of Boric acid is much higher then that of borax. Boric acid is also acid, and not alkaline and it makes it difficult. Toxicity of the use of boron and reported deaths comes from the use associated with boric acid when an infant accidentally ingested boric acid.

It's much easier to deal with borax. A liquid boron has another problem, manufacturers may add inactive ingredients in liquid solution to stabilize them but may be not safe for human consumption Borax in general does not have the additives as does a liquid boron solution and hence isgenerally better in most general applications."

FLUORIDE IN MEDICATIONS

1 WARNING!

[WARNING!]  05/10/2010: Robert from Martinez, Ca, Usa writes: "I was researching damage to the hippocampus, (see hippocampus on Wiki or equal),& found that many of the disease states listed from ADD to Alzheimers are very prevalent in society & many of the drugs prescribed for treatment contain in one form or another fluoride. Approximately 1500 antidepressants contain fluoride. A friend was prescribed a compound of cortisone cream for dermatitis which contained fluoride. Its everywhere folks, & its earlier use goes all the way back to guess who, Hitler. There are a few states that do not use fluoride in their drinking water & Hawaii as of 2-yrs ago was voting to remove its use from their water."

FLUORIDE IN WATER

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/27/2007: Steve W from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia writes: "I have been living over seas for the past 6 months.

In regards to flouride. I have read extensively your articles. I would like to point out that you mention in one section that reverse osmosis bottled water such as Aquifina, etc are clean of flouride due to the fact that they are reverse osmosis filtered---HOWEVER I CAUTION YOU AND YOUR READERS---READ THE LABEL. Aquifina here in where I live and in the US last time I check had significant levels of Flouride AND Chlorine. While I cannot substantiate WHY it would I suspect it is because they are adding it AFTER filtering for "our benefit". I can tell you here even distilled water is curiously high in both flouride and chlorine AND IS MARKETED specifically for babies as "PURE Distilled water".

There has been a massive push in just the last 3 months here to add flouride to drinking water and almost every toothpaste that DID NOT have it, has now produced a version with it or even eliminated the non-flouridated product.

THIS is all being done ONLY under the guise that the American Dental Association has accepted flouride as a wonderful preventitive. I now wonder how many other widely accepted programs in foreign countries have' been created just because "America is doing it".

If only one thing, I stress again and again read the labels. You can at least keep yourself safe until they start taking the labels away, by then you should have your OWN water purification reverse osmosis or distiller to protect yourself if you do not already."

11/27/2007: Jason Uttley replies: "Speaking as someone who is hypersensitive to fluoride, I can tell you from experience that distilled water is normally fluoride free. I have seen a few cases of fluoride being added back to reverse osmosis filtered water, but that's not a common practice and I don't believe that occurs in the case of Aquafina. However, that said, Steve does make a good point in that one should always read the label of filtered water to see if it makes any reference to fluoride being added back in. Unfortunately, since one can't always rely on the label in the case of fluoride, you might consider using r/o water that doesn't indicate the addition of any minerals after the filtering process, unless it comes from a trusted source. For those individuals who prefer to have minerals in their water, I recommend buying a spring water that is known to be relatively fluoride-free, such as Chippewa spring water."

FLUORIDE POISONING SYMPTOMS

8 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/23/2008: Nicole from Stanton, CA writes: "I am hoping you will start a new supplements section on iodine. Also another section on maybe causes of ailments, like fluoride and the problems it causes. Here is my story about fluoride, iodine, and thyroid....

I first noticed my husbands goiter close to 6 months ago, at that time it had become quite noticeable and was indeed very large. Obviously concerned for his health he went to see his doctor, who referred him to an endocrinologist, who then referred him to a surgeon. Strangely enough they told him his blood levels were normal and he didn't have a thyroid condition.... interesting since he has this giant goiter on his neck. lol

At the time there was so little that I knew about thyroid disease and I didn't have much interest in it, I was concerned for my husband but thought that surgery was the only option. Then my husband began to have panic attacks after my daughter was born, and at home no less (I now understand it to also cause and fluctuation of the thyroid hormone)! I honestly thought it was a mind over matter and went searching online to prove that he just needed to stop scaring himself. Instead what I found was that his panic attacks were actually caused by the goiter. Because I had my daughter at home without a midwife, just me him and my mother (planned it that way ; ) I had already learned a few natural remedies, while looking up honey and the wonderful benefits of it I also learned of coconut oil, though I only learned about it being good for pimples. I was interested in purchasing some coconut oil online and that's when I found some of the most amazing information. The site selling it said it helped with thyroid conditions, I wasn't going to believe them, after all they were selling it they would say anything to sell their product right? So I looked up thyroid forums and testimonies regarding the use of coconut oil and sure enough I found out that it was indeed beneficial to his thyroid. Well I ran out to the store and bought some the next day, in the car my husband was exhausted and began to have a panic attack and I told him to take some coconut oil, he only had a 1/4 of a teaspoon and ten minutes later his attack had subsided and he felt energized! After this experiment, we continued treatment and slowly worked up to 3tblspns a day where he's at now. After that revelation and since we had his attacks under control (and in fact after taking it for a week he no longer even experienced an attack) I went back online to find out what we needed to do to shrink his goiter. That's when I learned about iodine and how important it is and how many people are deficient and thus many are hypothyroid and even still many are undiagnosed with hypothyroidism. I also learned about what counteracts iodine, like soy which is a big one since it is in just about all prepackaged foods. When I found out how important iodine was for the thyroid and how the thyroid makes hormones for your whole body I became interested in what else iodine deficiency was responsible for, And do you know what I found? Lots! Here is a sight that lists all the symptoms of iodine deficiency...

But first, after realizing that my husbands thyroid was caused by a change in his diet, I began racking my brain thinking of what on earth has changed over the past year. I've been trying to figure it out for the past couple months and today I found it.

During our big change to all, well almost all, things healthy, I remembered reading about people using toothpaste that doesn't have fluoride in it.. I looked online for the reason why and WOW, what I found is shocking! Fluoride also counteracts iodine, it inhibits the uptake of iodine to your thyroid and we both know (at least by now) how important adequate amounts of iodine are to your thyroid. So I told my sister about it and she said that she didn't think we had fluoridated water, so I searched for the cities that had it in OC and that's when I came across this article ( http://www.ocregister.com/article/water-fluoride-county-1924513-muir-doctors ). I told my sister what I'd found out and how the time they added fluoride pretty much coincided with the onset of my husbands goiter and the worsening of his thyroid (I believe he has been hypothyroid for a long time as have I and my mother based on the symptoms) and my sister said that she has experienced a worsening of her asthma over the past year!

I am interested in asking friends of mine who have symptoms of iodine deficiency whether they experienced and increase or decrease in their symptoms over the last year (without divulging anything till they have answered so that my findings are not biased) I will report back later with some of my findings, but I am interested if anyone else has experienced similar problems after their area had been fluoridated.

01/11/2010: Stargazer from Hibbing, Mn/usa replies: "Borax helped me detox from fluoride. I didn't have fluoride poisoning, exactly, but my thyroid wasn't working well -- I only realised this years later, after things got REALLY bad & I was at long last diagnosed. The dr said I had an auto-immune disease, my immune system was attacking my thyroid. he said the thing to do was supplement the thyroid. I thought "why not try to balance the immune system?" but I didn't say anything.

Thanks to Ted's hint about borax, I am feeling better. In fact at times I have to stop & un-do some of my improvements, because I need my medicine lowered & the dr won't lower it yet.

what has helped me, very much, is:
eliminate all sources of fluoride; so , drink pure water, switch toothpaste, & cook from scratch using pure water.... avoid foods that cause trouble for the thyroid: peanut butter, broccoli/cabbage/etc.... avoid foods that OVERstimulate my immune system -- it is already over active so I sure don't need it more active! I rarely have oranges or other citrus any more.
When I do, I have that muscle-spams again, that I used to have all the time; I have to be sure to have anything like citrus, in the morning, & at night be certain I don't forget the borax, or else I will have restless legs at night. I find that taking selenium really helps. It helps balance my immune system. ...I also take kelp, about 1 or 2 capsules a day...and vitamin D. ...also, I did start adding iodine into my drinking water that I drink at night, and sometimes I apply it to my skin on my inner wrists (it's absorbed there). When I am doing everything , I stay well.

I don't know if my medicine contains fluoride. I hope not, but I am going to ask the pharmacist."

It should be added that fluoride, in small repetitive doses over time, such as using toothpaste with fluoride for years, destroys a certain area of the brain that makes the person more easily controllable. [SIDE EFFECTS]  02/24/2008: Ronald E from Negaunee, MI writes: "My name is Ron and I have no doubt about ALL the talk on Fluoride Poisoning.

I Started the ONLY Fluoride Poisoning Support Group on the web.

Message 3 at yahoo group FluoridePoisoning

Everything you have ever known or heard about Fluoride is false. Fluoridated water is the biggest scam ever pulled on the WORLD and is killing and sickining people everywhere..

I have been sick since 97 My symptoms did not start all at once but became progressivly worse until the present.

Symptoms:
blurry vision - on and off not continously. got new glasses just
before I went for last MRI reading. Also looked for ICP by looking at
optic disc.

leg pains - hip, shoulder joints - I can't cross my legs - feels like
my joints are coming apart

muscle cramps and charley horses in calfs and arch of feet

mental confusion -short term memory - seems I really have to work at
remembering daily stuff

Headaches ( frontal)_ worse as day goes on

dizziness, like an airpane ride , disconnected , sometimes feels like
I am 3 feet off the ground or I am sitting sideways up on the wall -
no spinning vertigo

Brain fog - I suspect this is what alhzimers must feel like

tinnitus,-
otolaringologist says I have low frequency hearing loss

irritability - lashing out at family for no apparent reason
lack of concentration

can't sleep - up at 3-4 am and can't get back to sleep

Need to lie down in the afternoon - exhausted - feels like I am in a
comotose state - at times I can hear what is happening around me but
I can't respond

Getting fine tremmors in legs & eyelid

Dysphagia - throat feels swollen , hard to swallow at times - THROAT
GOES OPEN AND CLOSED -worse after exercise

cold hands & feet at times - cold all over at times

profuse sweating - sometimes I sweat like a pig for 15 min. after a
shower

No appitite - constant nausea - lots of bread & milk

muscle weakness & myalgic pain moving all the time

Lower back pain and neck pain comes and goes I don't think itis
linked to exercise

hands and heels really hurt at times

electric like shocks in left leg ( thigh, sometimes in feet and toes)
worst ones happen while I am
lying on couch watching TV - doubled over in pain

Fatigue is increadible - last two hours and consider it a good day!

Gums bleed , had periodontal disease

bone loss in jaw,- according to periodontist and dentist

teeth feel loose, USED TO BE ABLE TO WIGGLE THEM WITH MY TONGUE ,

drooling at times

Soft stools all the time -almost diarrhea

Getting pins and needles on chest and back after a hot shower and hot
days and exercise - started after surgery i think

Itching on arms and waist especially after a hot shower but other
times too

Seems like all this happens after I eat!!! things get worse and also
after exercise

chest pain in ribs on right side, then on left side

Heels really hurt as do my "heels " of my hands

longitudal ridges on finger/toe nails

History ( very brief- this is just the tip of the iceburg)

self diagnosed Chiari Malformation - my brains are swelling into my
spinal column - had decompression surgery in 2000 - symptoms
continued and worsened

self diagnosed Heavy metal poisoning - challenge test showed lead
mercury etc. - this was according to a holistic doctor and allopathic
doctors do not recognize these results. Chelated with DMSA - numbers
came down- still sick - then 10 weeks of EDTA IV thearpy - still sick.

Rhum. Doc diagnosis of Fibromyalgia - 6/02

self diagnosed Fluoride Poisoning - may 2002- one night I got sick
after dinner - and a couple of days later I thought back about what I
did different that nite - I drank three glasses of city water at that
meal instead of milk. Fluoride calcium seeks and makes it less toxic.

I did my own blind tests - I can pick out F water EVERY time - my
daughter can tell by my eyes if I have had 3 glasses of water!

I have confronted docs with this - Some look at me like I'm from
outer space, some belittle me, others just laugh.
My neurologist looked at me wide eyed and ordered serum and urine
fluoride tests. He never called me back. I went and got copies 3
weeks later and both were ELEVATED - my blood levels are 10x normal -
he has NOT dx me or schedualed another appmt.
Romhatoligist dx me with fibromyalgia and then I told her about
Fluoride - she doesn't want to see me again!

I found Dr. Myra Preston PHD - of SIBER IMAGING who has a patented
method of dx CFIDS through QEEG. I did before and after tests
dirnking my city water and I think I now have proof that F causes
brain damage in humans and is one of the causes of these "mysterious
syndromes" CFS,FM,GWS, MCS etc.
I scanned the report and will send it to you in another private
email if you wish, as it is 8 pages long.
Please give feed back if you can. I am willing to take this document
to court and start the fight against Fluorodation. I think this could
be the straw that breaks the camels back.

TEST RESULTS FROM DR PRESTON

Mine are unusual as I did two tests because my fluoronated city water
was making me sick. First test after staying away from as much F as
possible for 2 weeks - second test after drinking my city water for
24 hours.

Highlights:

tested positive for all four variables to be classified as CFIDS
patient on both tests

Impression: RGE's QEEG prior to drinking water was abnormal. The
abnormalities are primarly in the ratios to total brain activation.
the prominence of slow wave activity is recorded in the delta and
theta frequencies. The lack of beta activity alsorepresents an
abnormal finding.

Following the exposure to water, RGE's delta activity increased,
theta activity decreased... Performance on these tests declined
sharply from the pre-to post water drinking... total brain function
declined in the post-water drinking QEEG.

Conclusions: Extremely abnormal QEEG due to the diffuse delta and
theta activity and the lack of brain activation in the beta range in
the frontal and temporal regions. This pattern correlates with the
patients report of severe cognitive loss. Abnormalities such as these
correlate with the limbic system and immune dysfunction, the fatigue,
the cognitive problems. It is important to note that the pre-water
evaluationwas quite abnormal, confirming the chronicity of the
patients illiness. The post-water drinking decline correlates with
the patients history of fluoride poisoning. Exposure to this toxin
exacerbated the neurophysiological disruption. ...

... RGE clearly exhibits diffuse brain dysfunction, which typically
results from a widespread condition such as a metabolic disease
including heavy metal poisoning. This indicates a neurotoxic
poisoning. Fluoride is a neurotoxin that acts on postsynaptic
receptors. This neurotoxic condition correlates with the disrupted
brain physiology and the secondary development od Chronic Fatigue
Immune Dysfinction and Fibromyalgia Syndrome.

I've been suffering with similar problems for years now and to the point of actually contemplating suicide. When I was younger my problems were diagnosed as being related to depression. I don't buy that. The so-called anti-depressants made my condition worse. I have so many questions. If I posted my e-mail address would you be willing to help me? No one in the professional community is willing to address this problem of poison in our water. I don't have health insurance or the money to seek any kind of help alternative or otherwise. I'm desperate for advice."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  01/29/2008: Carol from La Verne, CA writes: "I am very grateful to Earthclinic for bringing fluoride poisoning to my attention. I had not been aware of a fluoride abundance in my body until I viewed the postings.'Fluoride wasn't the only toxic exposure crippling my life. In addition I have bismuth poisoning. Both elements, portrayed as innocent by pharmaceutical companies, but are in fact extremely toxic. My fluoride and bismuth came from over the counter and prescription drugs. I've successfully leached the fluoride but the bismuth is quite difficult to bond with and so I am still having health issues described in the below text.

The reference book Toxicology Desk Reference: The Toxic Exposure and Medical Monitoring Index, is kept in most universities and medical research facilities across the United States. Some pages of the Toxicology reference book may be accessed on the Internet by the public, but some pages are kept hidden. Pages regarding Fluoride were hidden.

Bismuth

Hematological-The hematological effect caused by bismuth is methemoglobinemia, which can occur from exposure to bismuth subnitrate.
The definition and symptoms associated with methemoglobinemia include: the oxidized form of hemoglobin, in which the iron atom is trivalent, and which is not able to combine reversibly with oxygen. Formation of large amounts of methemoglobin prevents the normal function of hemoglobin, that of transporting oxygen in the body thus causing asphyxia of the tissues. When large amounts are present, the blood becomes chocolate-brown in color varying in intensity from lilac to a deep leaden hue, and quite different from the bluish-purple color of cyanosis due to a lack of oxygen. This distinctive tint is most noticeable on the cheeks, ears, tip of the nose, and fingernails. Sensation of weakness in the knees and a staggering gait follow. If destruction of the red blood cells is severe, anemia occurs and there may also be injuries to the kidney and liver. Jaundice and enlargement of the spleen may occur.

Page 706
Fluoride

HEENT-The HEENT effect caused by fluoride include: eye irritation; and dental caries, teeth loss, and teeth pigmentation, all of which may occur from chronic fluorosis.
Hematological-The hematological effect caused by fluoride is hyperkalemia and hypocalcemia.
Neurological-The neurological effects caused by fluoride include: hyperactive reflexes, skeletal muscle excitability, and painful spasms, all of which are felt to occur due to decreases in blood calcium.
Cardiovascular-The cardiovascular effect caused by fluoride is onset of cardiac arrhythmias, which can occur as a result of hyperkalemia.
Respiratory-The respiratory effects caused by fluoride include: Irritation to the lungs and mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract; bronchospasm; and pulmonary edema.
Renal-The renal effect caused by fluoride is renal failure, which has been seen with chronic exposure.
Musculoskeletal-The musculoskeletal effect caused by fluoride is skeletal fluorosis, which can occur from chronic exposure. Symptoms of fluorosis include: joint pain, ossifications on x-ray, brittle bones, and calcified ligaments, alsong with other crippling changes."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/13/2007: Bev from Elroy, WI writes: "I had been treated with zithromax for pneumonia but what seemed to trigger the severe, sudden onset of reflux was taking 200mg of ibuprofen twice within the week for pain in my neck during that time. The ibuprofen caused a gastric ulcer since I had been on periodic courses of prednisone earlier for acute asthma which resolved after seven weeks of antibiotics.' When I got the pneumonia I had no asthma but a high fever, fatigue and pain in the neck. Steroids can cause ulcers but I didn't think the effect would last that long as I was not taking any at the time. I woke up choking at night with reflux and started protonix. Stopped after about one year and since use digestive enzymes, honey, camomile, ACV with baking soda. Caution: Prevacid ia a fluoridated medication. Along with the reflux, I began severe hypothyroid symptoms I believe caused by Diflucan and Advair which are both fluoridated. Have been doing the borax detox twice a week and have reduced thyroid medication from 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 gr Armour."

I am sure that my life-long knee pain is fluoride related as the doctors find nothing abnormal in xrasys. Yet, there is no denying the pain, weakness, and swelling. Crippling at times. After giving up most fluoride for two months the bones still hurt though. I can only hope this is reversable."

I made a quart a day. My symptoms had diminshed almost to nothing within a week. We have a two stage water filter in our kitchen, one is for chlorine and the other for fluoride. It has made a huge difference in our lives, also use a non-fluoridated toothpaste."

FLUORIDE TEST KITS

07/18/2010: Deirdre from Atlanta, Ga, Usa writes: "Does anyone have any experience using fluoride test strips or a fluoride testing kit/meter to determine fluoride levels in drinking water and other beverages? After reading some articles on the web last night, I decided I would like to start testing our tea and water. We have one particular loose leaf ceylon tea that I have the feeling has fluoride levels off the charts.

Source: http://toxipedia.org/display/toxipedia/Fluoride Content in Tea

..."Tea infusion readily releases Fluoride from tea leaves into water. As such, it is considered a significant dietary source of Fluoride (Lu, et al., 2004). Studies from certain countries have found teas containing 0.03 ppm-25.7 ppm Fluoride (Szpir, 2005). Alongside consideration of when leaves are harvested relative to the growth of the tea plant and which leaves are selected for a particular tea, processing can be another determinant in Fluoride content of the final tea product. One study done in Taiwan found tea packaged in teabags had higher Fluoride concentrations in infusions than loose leaf teas (Lung, et al., 2003)."

re FDA Regulation

"...The current FDA regulation standard for fluoride levels in beverages and bottled water is 1.4-2.4 ppm (US FDA, 2006). Certain American brand teas have been found to exceed the standard amount (Rao, 1984). Studies from other countries have also found their local teas to contain fluoride levels higher than the recommended amounts (Lung, et al., 2003 and Tokalioglu, et al., 2004)."

I have been living in Ireland for 3 years. Due to my current health condition, I have a suspision of being toxicated by fluoride, which has been found in Irish drinking water. I have done a thorough research on internet in relation to fluoride analysis toxicity tests, unfortunately I was not able to find an appropriate test center nor a test kit so far.

What is the fluoride testing method?

Would it be possible to tell me how can I analyze my body against fluoride toxicity, please? This information is extremely important for me.

Thank you for your time in advance,

Best Regards,
Peter"
