[YEA] 04/29/2009: Baby from Germantown, Maryland: "I've been suffering from bad breath for 20 years, i searched for remedies for years and tried it(water theraphy, oil pulling, brushing teeth with baking soda and salt, used expensive breath theraphies, hydrogen peroxide, taking acidophillus, probiotics) but to no avail. I Thank God for answering my prayer by leading me to this site in helping me cure my problem which affected me so much in my interaction with people (i became anti social and always dread the days when i have to interact with people). The following method has help me eradicate my bad breath problem, even my morning breath is gone. I tried pranayam breathing after waking up in the morning, then i gargle hydrogen peroxide diluted in water with a pinch of salt and baking soda after breakfast and before i sleep, i also take acidophillus(1 billion) 2x a day between meals."

PROBIOTICS
10/05/2011: Bolanle123 from Yonkers, New York: "The Streptococcus salivarius probiotic bacteria is the number one dragon slayer in the ranks of bad breath remedies. This oral probiotic replaces the bacteria in your mouth with the desirable Streptococcus salivarius K12 bacteria."

REMEDIES NEEDED

10/31/2011: Curesearcher from New York, Ny, Us: "I have been following advice and posts on earthclinic with enthusiasm and can report to have achieved minor improvements to my condition following them.
I've researched a lot and am overwhelmed by the amount of information. In a nutshell though: I'm trying to find the underlying health issue causing my Halitosis. I am about to try various remedies but am afraid of harming myself doing so. My problem is finding my underlying issue: Your help is imensly appreciated.
SYMPTOMS:
I am 34 years old male caucasian, symptoms started since late childhood, intesnified in teen age: white coated tongue, bad breath, scalp psoriasis and minor fungus on one toenail, slighty slower digestion, fatigue, drowsyness, concentration problems. I assume they are all connected somehow? The most frustrating issues though is the bad breath because of its grave social implications. The odors emitted can be off all kinds, usually of body by products: urin, gas, fecal, sweat, wet dog etc.... My halitosis is not very grave generally but can get very intense at times. Stress, alcohol, food obviously worsens it but I have never been able to pin point it to one specific cause or causes. Surprizingly at times when I am living the healthiest, e. G. Eating and exercising it might actually get worse and vice versa. It is most definitely a huge problem for me socially and with work, trust me.
At the moment I believe my symptoms might be attributed to all of these below (or just one or none?):
THYROID, DIGESTIVE, PH IMBALANCE, YEAST/CANDIDA or maybe just WHITE TONGUE/HALITOSIS?
My problem in pinpointing my illness is that I have symptoms of many of these ailments, but none severe enough to make it obvious. I want to try various remedies but don't want to harm myself doing so. And strangely enough I am healthy in other aspects: Digestion most of the time is regular with no problems, skins great, hair healthy (scalp psoriasis aside), physically active and I am overall very young looking for my age.
Most contradicting is the following: I've been on a multi enzyme with Betaine HCL 400mg for three days. I got burning sensation from it meaning I have enough stomach acid? PH is fine? So how can I have a coated tongue and BB then if digestions apparently fine?
Is it thyroid problem? I can eat very big quantities of high caloric foods with hardly any weight gain.
Also something that could be an indication: I look very young for my age and did so since my early teens and it took me very long to fully go into puberty. (my mom has minor thyroid issues) Thyroid deficiency?
I PRACTICE THESE FOLLOWING REMEDIES:
(for the record I used to do Thera Breath, got antibiotics form BB doctor a year ago no result. Then cholrhexedine mouthwash that worked but chemicals! I got off it two weeks ago)
Usual routine: tongue scrape and tooth brush
Since two weeks:
ACV bicarb routine, OP with coconut oil in the morning, taking oil of oregano diluted in water and under tongue. Im taking Magnesium citrate, potassium citrate, B-complex, multivitamin.
Since one week:
7 day Detox program
No yeast carb diet.
Taking a pre/probiotic with anti yeast properties called 'Syntol' and a no carb/yeast diet based on protein and vegtables.
(I've had good results with these treatments so far even if the detox is exhausting. My tongue cleared up 40% but still generallywhite most in the back! )
Want to Start: Potassium Iodide ( Selenium & l-thyromine) and/or Niacin and/or Sodium Chlorite 28%.
I want to start/am trying all these various remedies but am afraid of harming myself doing so. My problem is finding my underlying issue.
Your advice is greatly appreciated, THX!"
Replies10/31/2011: Answer from Middletown, Ky replies: "For you --- combine hydrogen peroxide, salt and baking soda into a paste. Place all ingredients into the CAP, or TOP, of the hydrogen peroxied bottle to mix easily... The small bottle top or cap is just really easy to use... Now take that paste, which shoud have the consistency of mashed potatoes, and use it to brush your teeth after your normal teeth brushing routine. The combination of Hydrogen peroxide, salt and baking soda creates and anti-bacterial, anti-gingivitis, and anti-halitosis environment. Utilize this remedy only twice a day, for a few days, and then as a permanent regimine, three days a week... For the remainder of your life... Trust me... This will erase any oral problems. Your gums will tingle, and perhaps turn a bit white, which will show you it's working. The tingling feels like a nice massage, once the amount of bacteria is dropped to a healthy level ...As far as a diagnosis ... Many would say an iodine deficiency, which can be solved by applying iodine with a cotton ball, on the bottom of your feet... I know it sounds odd, but, it works to absorb the needed mineral... I purchased a small bottle of old-school iodine from Walmart, which works just fine ...
Also many would say you perhaps have a magnesium, or other mineral, deficiency --- grab some EPSOM salt from your local grocery store, usually next to the Hydrogen peroxide and iodine in the meds section --- and take a bath with the EPSOM salts for at least 30 minutes... The bath will enable your body to absorb the minerals from the EPSOM salt... This will ease stress, aches, pains, etc. , as it provides your body with needed stuff ...
Others would also advise drinking a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar available at local grocery stores, in a cup of water ... 2 tsps... Max... Twice a day, in a shot or cup of water... The Apple Cider Vinegar should be the organic sort, and not the heavily processed variety ...
Follow the aforementioned ... and report your results."
11/01/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Cureresearcher, I think your main problem is candida or a fungal infection. Once your body is infected with candida you can't be healthy until it is cleared up.Please read the article linked below. Dr. Orian Truss had much success in treating candida with an iodine protocol. Let us know how it works out for you.

05/07/2011: Josephine from Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa: "Dear Sir or madam, please help since June 2006 I have been suffering from a Bad Breath I have seen countless Dentist & 4 ENT Specialist. I had OP in 2007 (Tonsils & sinuses) now my mucus is coming through the mouth. I'm using Therebreath product, but no improvement. Please help I have lost my confidence, I feel so bad that people block their nose. Regards, Josephine"
Replies05/07/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Bad breath it seems mostly comes from digestion not the mouth (if you have ruled out teeth & gum problems). You need to get your digestion. Take probiotics, digestive enzymes, eat fermented foods. There is much info on the internet."
05/12/2011: Jim from Spfg, Il replies: "Try oil pulling (if you have no idea about oil pulling try to research it on the Internet). Wash your mouth with baking soda or add baking soda on your tooth paste when brashing your teeth. Chew and spit cloves or cinnamen (Tea/food spices). Good luck! Jim"

03/29/2011: Lucas from Nyc, Ny, Usa : "Hello, I need help!!!! :)
I am suffering of fecal bad breath for about 13years. I have seen 10-15dentist, they all say I have healthy gum and nice teeth. They have done and redone some fillings through the years, I wash my teeth 3-4x a day, floss, scrape my tongue, mouthwash, I've excellent oral hygiene, just like most of the BB sufferers:)I went to a halitosis specialist, he treated me for Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSC's), but unfortunately that wasn't the source of my bb. All it did dried my mouth so bad, that I was constantly drinking water, otherwise I never had dry mouth. Then I went to see a GI doc, she did Barium X-ray, Endoscopy, all they found was H pylori, which was treated with antibiotics but everything else was normal and negative. By the way the H pylori stool test came back negative, but I insisted the endoscopy and the doc saw mild inflammation on my stomach lining. I know a lot of ppl had positive results while on antibiotics or with the eradication of the H pylori not for me:( not even for 1 day.)
Then I had Paranasal Sinuses X ray... Came back negative, then saw an ENT doctor, who said evthg looks normal. I never had sinuses, tonsillitis, stones, ear or throat infection, he recommended to remove my glands, which I'm hesitating, since I never had problem with it. Neither any kind of problems with my stomach, other than I only have one bowel movement a day, sometimes I feel constipated, but I have at least 6 times a week, which doctors say considers normal. The only change while I was on antibiotics that I had 2x a day, I was shocked how much came out of me (sorry, not trying to disgust anyone, just maybe some of u had similar problems)
I eat very healthy, I'm 5'7 and 118lbs, I exercise, take vitamin, probiotics, digestive enzymes, drink a lot of water, no soda, don't smoke, drink socially. I tried to cut off sugar, yeasts, coffee, I tried for weeks, nothing has changed. The GI doc said I do not have candida overgrowth. I am so determined to find the source of my BB after all these years, I can't understand how my bfriend can handle me, he never tells me anthg other than did u fart once in couple of months, my friends neither, no one said anthg never, so I assume it can only be smelled from close, I can't smell it, only on the subway when I stand under the AC and blows this shitty smell right back on me (happened many times, so I know that's my smell :((((( And off course all the doctors said they don't smell anthg, expect the halitosis doc since the halimeter measured way above bad breath...
Anyhow the GI doc is giving up on me, saying I'm totally healthy, there are no other tests she could do. I am trying to convince her to do the intestinal bacterial overgrowth and food intolerance- even though I dont have any symptoms, no pain, or bloating... Can anyone recommend anything else? Shuold I have my glands removed? Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice, tip, comment. Please ignore my mistakes, English is my 2nd language :)
Thanks again:)"

03/29/2011: Robin from Rural, Va replies: "Something that I have not seen mentioned when this topic comes up is the possibility of Ketosis. I would suggest Googling it. When your body is not taking in enough calories, you go into ketosis. One of the effects of ketosis is bad breath. I learned about it when I was doing Atkins, and yes you can smell it on your own breath. This does not come from a condition in your mouth. When you mentioned your height and weight, I just had to wonder if this is what is happening."
03/29/2011: Randy from Jersey City, Nj, Usa replies: "maybe try some fiber to get things moving? I take this stuff called super seed, I like it alot. I mix it with some psyllium to make it last a bit. i also have good results with a salt water cleanse/flush. good luck"
03/31/2011: Lucas from Nyc, Ny, Usa replies: "thanks everyone, I've tried peroxide and salt water too, neither of them were helping. I googled Ketosis, I don't think that could be the cause, I eat properly, I never diet, only if I do cleanse (1x a yr) I am slim, but only because of my genes. I'm gonna try the fiber supplement... thanks.."

12/29/2010: Dee from Palm Beach, Florida, Usa: "IVE HAD BAD BREATH FOR A WHILE NOW- WHAT OVER A YEAR. WHAT IS CAUSING IT AND HOW CAN I PIN POINT THE CAUSE? I CANT GET A GIRL AND ITS AFFECTING ME SOCIALLY. HELP ME PLEASE"
Replies01/04/2011: Brooke from Montgomery, Tx, Usa replies: "It is usually due to issues with your eliminations. Get on a diet that makes you go to the bathroom often. For example, add figs, dates, cornmeal, etc.. Get a few good colonic's, or give yourself enemas. I know this is not what a man usually wants to do, but if you want to cure yourself, then that is what you should do. Stay away from cheeses, except for cottage cheese and cream cheese. I would also start using a natural laxative, such as Eno Salts or Fletcher's Castoria."

Chapter 17. Magnesium's Effect on Body Odors
The foremost pioneer in this field was Pierre Delbet, M. D. , who sent many communications on his experiences with magnesium to the French Academy of Medicine. One of them dealing with body odors was dated June 5, 1928. Here is a translation of a portion of it. A Personal Note by J. I. Rodale
I made myself a guinea pig. Here are some, of my experiences:
Within a few days, exactly as Delbet had said, I noticed that it deodorized my stool. But with the addition of dolomite the process of deodorization was made almost complete--let us say 99.4 percent complete. But when I started to take dolomite tablets, I was not prepared for another change it produced, something that took about six months. This was an almost complete disappearance of underarm odor! Unbelievable, you might say! But perhaps the unbelievable is about to come true. Wouldn't that be something--something as basic as the purification of the inner body, by a simple little tablet?
Delbet in the above quotation says that magnesium's effect on body odor is no doubt due to a modification of the intestinal flora, the beneficial intestinal bacteria that take part in the process of breaking down the food. I came to this conclusion independently owing to several experiences I had with magnesium. Chlorophyllin is defined by the Merck Index as sodium magnesium chlorophyllin. This study left us convinced that chlorophyll is a good natural deodorizer, but only in the magnesium-containing form and only because of the magnesium. In other words, for the deodorizing effect you might as well use the magnesium without the sodium and the green pigment. What we do know is that, for reasons not yet established, magnesium consumed in sufficient quantity to avert any possible deficiency does definitely seem to reduce or altogether eliminate any tendency an otherwise healthy person might have to unpleasant body odors. In my premagnesium era I discovered that, when I walked for two hours a day (at two sessions of one hour each), my foot odor vanished completely. But one hour of this exercise a day did not do it. Today without any walking at all (during the winter), my dolomite tablets keep my feet completely free of odor. How about athlete's foot? I don't know. I haven't had it for many years. I was cured of it about seven or eight years ago by the Prevention system. But perhaps the taking of dolomite might cure it. As I have said, I take nine tablets of dolomite a day. At the beginning, I had a few days of light diarrhea, but soon everything set itself in the proper order. Delbet says the same thing in his communication to the French Academy of Medicine, July 10, 1928: "In persons who have normally active bowels, it brings on a diarrhea in the first days, but it does not last. "

12/27/2010: Special01 from Indianapolis, In, Usa replies: "Parsley like the kind they serve at good restuarants to make your food look good is a natural remedy for bad breath."
12/27/2010: Jill from Dallas, Tx replies: "Assuming you have good dental hygiene, the source of your bad breath is most likely not your mouth. Two thoughts come to mind. First, do you have sinus issues? Frequent sinus colds, allergies, or infections? I have had sinus infections without the very obvious symptoms of sinus pain and severe congestion. Once I made an emergency appointment with a dentist because one of my upper molars was in severe pain. As it turned out, I had a sinus infection and the roots of that tooth happened to be in the way of the inflammation, which pressed on the nerve! If you have any pain on upper teeth, that could be a sign of sinus problems, which might warrant a trip to an ear/nose/throat doctor if it's a chronic problem. My second thought is regarding digestion issues and/or food allergies. First, if you are not getting enough water and fiber, your intestinal tract will be moving too slowly to keep waste material from building up in your body. Excess waste material = toxins floating around your blood stream, which will cause bad breath. Try psyllium and water daily for awhile to see if that helps. Re-evalute your diet and see what kind of "housecleaning" you might need to do (too much junk/processed foods and not enough whole, healthy, nutritious food).
A related thought is food allergies. If you are eating foods that create an inflammatory reaction in your body, rather than digesting properly, you will have incompletely digested proteins circulating through your body, creating inflammation and lots of excess waste product and toxins. Consider getting tested for allergies. My daughter was diagnosed with several food allergies about a year and a half ago and it has made a huge difference in her skin (severe acne), digestion (tended towards constipation all her life), and definitely her breath (which had been bad for years)!"

12/16/2010: Me from Boston, Mass, Usa: "Hi everybody. I ve been having problems of digestion all my life, but now I m not sure if my bad breath is because my digestion issues are producing this? but I m tired the people turned their faces away when I m talking to them , I guess my breath is so strong or so awfull that they hold their breath to talk to me, I ve been doing many things but they didnt work, I stop drinking coffee for more than 5 years, and I try the tea tree oil, but nothing, please if someone can help me with this I m very embarrased and desperate. 08/26/2010: Frankii from Quincy, Ma, Usa: "I have a huge problem with my bad breath. My symptoms are dry mouth, fecal breath, white hairy tongue, post nasal drip and some acid reflux and burping problem. Suprisingly, I was recently diagnosed with h-pylori bacteria. I would say that I have poor oral hygiene for the past 10 years and that's why I have that bacteria exist in my GI tract. I really hope that my Prev-pac will kill all the bad bacteria in my mouth so that I no longer have bad breath problem. I am currently on my 2 out of 14 days treatment. I will post my result in 2 wks. In the meantime, I was brushing with therabreath toothpaste and gargle with Hydrogen peroxide(HP) mix with baking soda(BS). It seems to help my bad breath for 2 hour max then it returns. Today, I bought some dentek easy strip dipped in HP to floss my teeth before rinse with HP and BS and I also brush my tongue with toothpaste and scrape off with tongue scraper. I actually also stop taking any dairy products, tea, and spicy food. I don't know if diet change really help me, but time should tell the difference. I suspect that my post nasal drip is the culprit to my bad breath but I think my poor hygiene also contributed to my bad breath as well. Everyday I woke up, I have some mucus stuck in back of my throat. I was hoping someone can share their experience with me along with their remedy. I just can't wait to find out a cure. Thank you"

[QUESTION] 07/01/2009: Celeste from Narbonne, France: "Hi everyone! I am getting more and more tonsil stones or what i call "smelly balls". I think i have holes in my tonsils that fill with decaying food or pus. When the hole is full, a little yellow ball comes out, and eeew, it stinks. What are these "smelly balls"? And how does one cure them? I'd love to see what Ted thinks about this situation as he didnt mention the "smelly balls" as one of the resons one could have bad breath. I am also eager to get anyone's info and experieces with this. Thank you!"
Replies08/21/2009: Happy At Last 64 from Hemingway, South Carolina replies: "I've had tonsil stones for 40 years; had my tonsils removed twice and still have the stones. My breath is terrible but doctors can't seem to find anything or a cure. I was told to eliminate all dairy products from my diet, so I'm in the process of doing that. In the meantime, what else can I use to get rid of bad breath? Please help!"
08/21/2009: Jen from So Cal, Us replies: "I hope this helps. What you need is a water pick, mirror with a stand, small flashlight, hydorgen peroxide, water and sink. What I use is a water pick, get the good kind so that it will shoot water to your tonsil at a strong rate. In the containner I mix in hydrogen peroxide with water, 1:3 ratio. When I do this I have a mirror infront of me and a small flashlight too see that I do get the tonsils and all it's crevices. You don't have to constantly look at a mirror, you just check to see that you are flushing your tonsils. do this over the sink. I do this 2-3 times a week, and I also OP 2 times or so a week. This is what works for me and it's great. Also remember to floss your teeth and brush your tongue. I use a strong bristle tooth-brush for my tongue, and softbrush for teeth. I try to do this at night or in the mornings if I have the time."
11/13/2009: M from Ny, Ny replies: "Same problem here! I suffered with this problem since childhood and still do if I'm not diligent in my mouth care routine.
After each meal...
1) To remove the stones, I carefully swab around my tonsils with a cotton swab.
2) With a tongue scraper, remove any white fuzz that collects at the back of my tongue. I have to reach pretty far. With a soft bristled tooth brush, I try to remove any white that the scraper left behind. I stick my tongue out as far as I can, then brush starting at the back moving the brush forward to the tip of my tongue. Rinse toothbrush and repeat until white is gone.
3)Then gargle with diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide (2 teaspoons of peroxide with 2 teaspoons of water). When gargling, I tilt my head back all the way and stick my tongue out far to ensure that the solution reaches the back of my tongue and tonsils. Careful not to swallow any or choke on it.
4) Brush my teeth. Rinse and gargle with plain water like a mad person after so no peroxide is left behind.
I still get the occasional tonsil stone but not as frequently and surprisingly not nearly as foul as before. It can take me 15 minutes to complete this but it's worth it. Bad breath is gone as long as I do this after every meal. Snacking on certain foods (cheese for sure)and coffee in between meals usually brings the breath back so I try not have either between meals.
I wish it didn't take me 29 years to find this secret. Thank you Earth Clinic with all my heart. I would have never discovered the peroxide trick without this site."
[NAY] 05/21/2011: Indigo1789 from Nyc, New York replies: "I TRIED ALL OF THE ABOVE WITH LITTLE RESULTS. I'VE BEEN APPLYING GLYCERIN TO MY TONGUE AND TEMP. I AM PRAYING ON IT NOW..."
09/05/2011: Seekingpeace from New York replies: "Indigo I live in nyc also and have been battling this problem for several years. what are you currently trying? I'm planning to start a fast tomorrow to see if it'll at least reduce the odor. My biggest problem is how far it extends -- I don't even have to talk it comes from my nose as well as mouth.Have you tested for H Pylori? After the fast I also plan to look in to the gluten free diet if fasting doesn't help."

10/17/2007: Babette from Paramus, nj: "What I don't understand is why people keep writing in and trying all different remedies for rotting teeth and gums and evil smelling breath, saying they don't have health insurance. Why not claim charity care in a hospital or clinic? In NJ you can always get granted that status if you are low income or not working. Are other states so different or are you ignorant or just chicken to go to the dentist. It really doesn't hurt at all with numbing meds and its really neurotic not to go. How can you stand bad breath? I can't stand being near people with bad breath."
Replies[NAY] 09/24/2008: Elaine from Orlando, Florida replies: "I spent a lot of time in the dentist chair. Every 4 months for 4 years straight and I still had bad breath."
02/20/2009: Nick from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada replies: "Not everyone wants to be pumped up with "numbing" meds and have everything from fluoride to mercury put in the mouths for the sake of cosmetics or something thats could be cleared up with a home remedy. Why not try something all natural first? Is it the cheapness of the products or the lack of side-effects that bothers you? Also you should read up on fluoride and mercury and how destructive they are before telling your loved ones and strangers to go and "get thee to the dentist". Have you ever wondered why you can't swallow fluoride and when your done you have to spit it in a biohazard container? "
03/20/2009: Aleda from Fennimore, WI replies: "No, not everyone has the luxary of free services from a dentist. New Jersey MUST be waaaaay different than my state. The whole point of this forum and site is to eliminate issues naturally. Of course, rotting teeth and such can only be dealt with by a dentist, but it's not especially conducive to come here and make judgements."
03/21/2009: Rosy from Orlando, Fl replies: "I wish I could go to the doctor or dentist for free. I can't even get one to treat me without me having insurance, regardless of me having the money."
03/26/2009: Joe from Pittsburgh, Pa replies: "my dentist had worse breath than me."
09/10/2010: Naturecalls from Provo, Ut replies: "When I notice a foul smell in my breath, I always feel my lymph nodes. If there is any inflammation, I take a flashlight and look for hiding "tonsil stones" or white spots in the back of my throat. If there is nothing visible, I gargle gargle and gargle again. Anything helps.. Water, Salt Water, Peroxide Mix, Olive Oil, Listerine. As long as its churning, it can knock the food loose. This prevents the festering and creation of the 'smelly balls'. This is a hereditary issue. Chances are, if you haven't had a stone by 25, your bad breath is from another cause.."
09/11/2010: Jamie from Lake Worth, Fl replies: "Babs, Let me preface this by saying I am almost 50 and have all of my own beautiful teeth. I have taken care of them all of my life. The times when I did not have dental insurance I paid for biyearly cleanings and any other work that had to be done. My parents reinforced the good dental care regimen. With that said here in Florida the state or charity type care does not include dental care at all, period, end, for adults. The best they will do is pull them out, and not provide dentures. I am not sticking up for yucky mouthed people, but some of it is heredity. Then those who let theirs go, shame on them, but in that case the treatment is sometimes worse than the illness."

SINUS CONNECTION

[YEA] 01/28/2008: Anne from Elliston, VA: "Hello I noticed a lot of people out there are concerned with bad breath. Some of you have mentined metal tast or sulfar taste or seeing a white or yellowish lump in the back of your throat. These are in your tonsils. They are called tonsil stones. They smell really bad and they cause a person to have really bad breathe, it smells like a toilet in your mouth. You can take a popscicle stick and express it out. I have heard that you can gargle with salt water and peroxide each day to help them to be fizzed out and not to form any more. Also you can use a netti pot. It is a little pot that you fill with 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of baking soda. Mix this in about 1 quart warm water. You only have to use 1 cup at a time or you can buy the premade packets. You get 50 with the little pot. You can buy a netti pot at Wal-mart. Use it everyday. If you have a sinus infection you can use it 3 or 4 times a day All you do is hold your head over the bathroom sink and put the pots spout in one nostril and do it unti a stream of the solution comes out the other side of your nose. It really helps with sinus problems. Also it helps to loosen up the tonsils stones. You can use the pot everyday. Hope this helps."

04/17/2010: John from Bay City, Michigan/usa replies: "You do not need to purchase a netti pot. Use a small kitchen dish. Fill with 6oz. warm water, in which salt has been dissolved. Perhaps about 1/2 teaspoon. I like for it to 'sting' a bit. Hold dish over sink, bend down and place nose in dish. (Nostrils submerged) Now swallow three times, and hold for several seconds.(Repeat this step three times.) Swallowing will create a vacuum which will draw solution into nose. If solution is salty enough, it will tingle a bit. Within several hours, mucus should break loose. It won't simply drip, it may pour many ounces. I heard about this in 1978. Tried it, and went to an antique store, afterward. I bent down, to check a price tag, and my nose suddenly poured on the carpet. I was so embarrassed!"

[WARNING!] 01/25/2008: Theresa from Albany, NY: "I have always used home remedies when possible. But I have come across situations that have called for a regular doctor. This is not said to cause fear in any way....but about 2 years ago my moms best freind had terrible breath ( which she had for several ongoing years). She ended up having a gall bladder atack and having an emergency removal. They found that her gall bladder was actually begining to turn gangrene. I'm not sure why she had no previous symptoms. I wanted to add this because its important to know the that bad breath is not always a simple solution. It can be a symptom of something extremely serious."

TONGUE SCRAPE

[YEA] 08/11/2009: Jenny from St Johns, Usa: "I have had a severe reflex diseas for years which resulted in me getting a very bad breath. Choosing gum only helps if you suffer bad breath from eating certain foods like garlic or onion so you can guess how much I suffered over the years. I have went to many different doctors and they couldn't even agree whether or not I had thrush on my tongue. After spending hundreds of dollars on mouthwashes and prescription pills that didn't work, here's the list of what actually helped me. By the way, the prescription for curing thrush (the ones that dissolves in your mouth) did nothing at all for me. You may want to find your own way of doing theses items in order, for example brushing my teeth using the regular toothpaste after salt treatment actually brught the whiteness back to my tongue.
1. First, brush and flush, use tongue scaper to clean your teeth.
2. Use Sesame Oil for Oil pulling.
3. Use salt
4. Use special mouthwash called Chlordioxine Glugonate (not sure of the spelling) which you can get from your dentist. This may cause discoration on your teeth so consult your doctor first.
5. Use baking soda to try and cut down on stain on teeth from the mouthwash and proxide later.
I hope this helps and don't forget to go see your doctor about the reflex problem.
This seemed to help me more than anything."

[YEA] 04/26/2006: Bayardo from San Antonio, TX: "This truly works! It is much better than all the products advertised by the media--which claim to heal "foul-smelling breath." I used to go through the embarrassment of having "bad breath" even a little while after brushing my teeth thoroughly and meticulously. A friend told me to scrape my tongue with either a "plastic spoon" or a "separate hard toothbrush." I opted for the second option.
This is how to do it: Brush your tongue repeatedly in all areas, especially as much inside the throat as possible--even if it causes a small regurgitative spasm. Before you rinse the brush, smell the bristles to see if the foul smell is still there. Repeat this process a few times; of course, keep on rinsing the toothbrush, and stop after the bristles have no bad odor whatsoever.
It is important to remember, "not to use the same toothbrush that you use for your teeth." I do this in the morning before I go to work, after meals and before I go to sleep. It is a fantastic natural cure. I really thank God that I am free from fetor ex ore!
P.S.: To gargle with concentrated salt water once or twice a week is also a very good idea. This enhances the process explained above by getting rid of build up in the tongue, which harbors foul-smelling microorganisms."

WATER
04/04/2012: Peter from Bangkok, Thailand: "For the ones that are suffering from bad breath, please try this out! First thing every morning before u brush your teeth, try drinking 640 ml. of water. After 45 mins. you are allowed to eat something. This might not help immediately, just give it a try for couple of days if you see any improvement. Good luck everyone."
Replies05/02/2012: Franko from Valley Cottage, Us replies: "Halitosis has been a problem for me and I've done various things to control it.1. I believe a diet with lots of fiber (lots of fruit and veggies, especially greens) is very important. Lots of fiber means the food moves quickly through your system and doesn't have a chance to rot and stink and decay inside you. Especially if you eat meat, you MUST accompany that with a lot of fiber, because meat should be made to pass through you very quickly or it will putrify and rot and stink inside you. Letting meat sit inside your body for too long because you don't get enough fiber with it is not only a cause of odor, but a cause of cancer if that habit goes on for too long. Also, greens are valuable because clorophyll tends to deodorize the system. If your feces smells really bad, you are not eating enough fiber. You should be defecating at least once a day, twice is better. Sufficient fiber can also protect you to some extent from dairy products coating your system and hanging around too long.
2. In the evening before bed I take in a mouthful of hot salt water and swish it as forcefully as possible through my teeth, spit it out. Then I take another mouthful of hot salt water and slip a toothbrush into my full mouth and brush my teeth while holding my lips closed so the salt water filling my mouth doesn't pour out. I then spit out the mouthful of salt water into the sink and refill my mouth with new salt water, slip the brush between my lips again and brush in the same way (while my teeth are completely immersed in the salt water in my full mouth), and spit again. Then when I'm done brushing, I gargle with the hot salt water and brush my tongue with it. In future, I'm also going to start brushing with salt water back in my throat further if I can, having read some of the posts above. Anyway, after all that, I rinse out most of the salt in my mouth with plain water.
3. Every morning and during the day I drink lots of water. That tends to clean not just your mouth, but your whole internal system, especially if you are eating enough fiber, which you can get from fruits and veggies. Bacteria forms in the mouth when it's dry. Breathe through your nose, not your mouth, when possible. If your mouth is closed, it won't dry out and so it will form less bacteria.
4. If I'm absolutely determined to control bad breath, I go 90% vegan and eat mostly raw fruits and veggies, with maybe a little yogurt. A raw vegetarian diet after a couple days will tend to give you sweet, baby breath. It can be hard to eat raw greens, but there's a very easy way to do it: Get a good blender (a Vitamix or Blendtech if you can) pop in a nice ripe banana, some water, and some other fruit, and a generous handful of raw greens, like spinach, kale, or others. Add some chia seeds, which are full of vital omega 3 fatty acids. When you blend it all, and taste the smoothie, you won't taste the greens, but mostly just the delicious sweet fruit. It makes a great superhealthy smoothie. One can also get one of the green powder products and add some of that to the fruit and greens in the blender. Google "raw family" on the internet, and check out the raw family website about a family that cured itself of all sorts of diseases by a green-smoothie raw diet. There is also a site called "green smoothie girl. "
5. Just because your mouth tastes funny or bad to you, it doesn't necessarily mean you have bad breath. You might, but might not. I tested it once, at a moment when I was sure I had bad breath, and my friend said, no, not at all, you don't. I breathed right on his nose. That day, I had drunk a lot of fluids but eaten nothing.
I'm going to add a couple of methods to my toolkit: using Apple Cider Vinigar as a gargle and drinking a teaspoon of ACV or whatever the right amount is with some water. Also, I'm going to start taking acidophilus and clorophyll liquid or caps."
