Multiple Remedies

The following are some of the things that have worked very well for me in taking care of my skin from youth to now (age 45).

In my youth, my dermatologist prescribed 50,000 I. U. S of VITAMIN A per day for my acne. This worked well, but after a while I began to experience extreem hair loss (too much of a good thing). So I began to apply it topically, I had even better results.

Because my mom practically raised me at our local health food store, we followed the recommendations of the store owner, TEA TREE OIL, applied after cleansing. I loved this stuff and still use it on occasion.

Mom also steamed her face regularly with SENNA LEAVES, I also did this. However, I was young and not that smart... I thought the heat was what was helping my skin so I began to wash my face with extreemly hot water (do not do this! I broke a ton of blood vessels on my face and no, those never went away).

Later, I found facial cleansers with SALICYLIC ACID and this helped a great deal. Look for one that is natural.

Now that I am older (43) I do not have the acne problems, Just wanting to keep my youth. I rarely use cleansers (only when I wear makeup), I just exfoliate with BAKING SODA, then I use an ALGAE EXTRACT solution (this has algenic acid that helps to lightly exfoliate). It is important to exfoliate (we need to get the dead skin off so our skin can better ABSORB MOISTURE). Algae extract is also packed with minerals that also benefit our skin (when our skin is mineralized it can better HOLD MOISTURE). (I have used algae extract for the last 15 years and can truely see a difference in my skin and my girl friends' skin). I follow up with one of three oils: JOJOBA OIL (they say it is most like our skins natural skin "oils"), SHEA BUTTER (I use the unrefined stuff from Africa... this is great stuff for dry winters), or COCONUT OIL.

I am currently experimenting with applying powdered VITAMIN C mixed with a touch of water (Vit. C helps build collegen). And today I am starting to supplement with ASTAXANTHIN. After reading an article on how well it works for wrinkles. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/05/25/sunscreen-and-wrinkle-prevention-in-a-pill.aspx

I also just ordered a book on FACIAL EXERCISES (15 minutes a day... I can do this, I hope! ).

My mom is a HOT MOMA, I owe a lot to her, for her knowledge and her genes.

Essential Oils
Posted by Sister Of Wolves (Cork, Ireland) on 01/03/2011

I mixed 5 drops each of Cedarwood, Sandlewood and Vetiver ewssntial oils in 20 mls of carrier oil - I used organic olive oil as I was using the mixture within a couple of days. This closes and heals lesions in the skin. The oils are all high in sesquiterpenes:
Cedarwood 98%
Sandlewood 90%
Vetiver 97%
Mix thoroughly; always use a good quality carrier oil. Make sure the oils are skin quality. Massage in gently. Essential oils are very strong, a little is enough. Happy New Year To All Members Of Earth Clinic Family

Fish Oil, Vitamin E

Fish oils helped clear up a gross patch of skin I developed on my face after being ill for several years. I take 1 Tablespoon per day, down it with a glass of juice, and started seeing results pretty quickly! I now take it every other day or so just because. I refer to it as liquid gold now :)

I only used a generic brand too as I was unable to afford the $50 high quality stuff so give the $10 bottle a chance! Sometimes I say a prayer beforehand to make the oil more healing for my body. whatever works!

As for getting it down: the unflavoured stuff works best. Pour some on a large spoon, have flavoured drink/fruit juice ready, hold breath, pour oil onto tongue, pour some juice into mouth and swallow whatever you can. Only breathe through mouth when necessary. Once its all down keep drinking juice and swish around in mouth so it cleans up the gross taste and swallow. It can be done! :)

Glycerin and Rose Water
Posted by Andrea C (Cardiff, Wales Uk) on 12/01/2010

HI to you all x My grand mother , who had the most lovely skin, swore by glycerin and rose water. Here in the UK , once upon a time we could bottles of the above, ready made from any pharmacist's. But all the pharmacists I tried (and at 51 years old, belive me, I tried so many well known ones in the UK) you can now only buy glycerin from them, and then go to a health shop for pure rose water. Then do a 50-50 mix of both products in one glass bottle, and give it a shake, then use pure cotton wool and gently rub it on your face from your neck in gentle strokes outwards towards your cheek bones, then up towards your cheek bones until you reach your hair line(on your fore head) then gently stroke it around the eye area. Always remember that the skin around your eyes, is a lot more fragile than the rest of your face, so as gently as you can, smooth it in wards towards your nose. Then do the same with the back of your neck, smooth it up towards your hair line from the base of your neck, and also for the rest of your body if needed, start at the ankles and rub it gently up wards. Do this 3 times daily. Morning noon and night. If you feel you need to use it more frequently then do so. It won't harm you.

Also, another one of my grand mothers folk recipes for you eyes was to bathe them in witch hazel(pure of course) in an eye bath on rising and just before you go to bed. Hope to find out you all look 20 yrs younger with in the next couple of month's of use(HA! HA! ) but seriously, my Friends and I all use my grans advice and for our ages we all look younger. AND DRINK PLENTY OF PURE WATER!! YOU MUST KEEP YOUR BODY WELL HYDRATED ALSO!! If you can only use tap water, then boil and keep it refrigerated if possible it keeps bacteria from thriving in the water and the same if you use bottled water, once opened refrigerate. SEE YOU ALL AT YOUR 3RD 21ST BIRTHDAY PARTIES! (HA HA! ) Love Andrea c

Ghee

Ok - I have very dry skin. Cool air, wind, all of these make my skin feel tight, dry and itchy. Recently I discovered that ghee (clarified butter) rubbed on my skin at night made it feel much better and I wake up with younger skin. So - I started putting it near my eyes and on my eyelashes and it would get into my eyes and it felt good. I have had fatty deposits on my eyeballs for a while now and usually can't drive at night and have to wear reading glasses to read (i am 50) but imagine my surprise when I had to drive in the dark for an emergency and had no trouble! And also I found myself not reaching for my reading glasses as often!!! Now I put the ghee into my eyes every night. Also my eyes are whiter in the morning and I have almost no crows feet!!! Amazing!!!

Multiple Remedies
Posted by Mary (San Diego, Ca, Usa) on 09/10/2010

I get alot of compliments on my skin from both ladies and men, I am 49, recently the ladies I work with asked me to write down what I use because I have no wrinkles and tend to look like I am still in my 30's. Here is what I use,

EXTERNALLY: Instead of soaps, I wash with Aura Acacia lavender scented mineral salts, (consisting of: baking soda, sea salt, borax and lavender essential oil) I use it on my whole body, NOTE: On my face I am VERY gentle to avoid breaks in the skin, it exfoliates the skin, and afterwards your skin feels AMAZING! Then I use Jojoba oil to moisturize and organic toner to replace the pH on my skin. The whole process leaves my skin glowing and smooth, not oily or shiny.

INTERNALLY: I take Hyaluronic Acid, which helps keep skin hydrated and smooth, Omega-3 (2) 1000 to 1200 caps per day, and several minerals including calcium, magnesium etc. Drink plenty of water, the more alkaline you stay the better, avoiding the acid stuff like dairy, or red meats. I exercise daily as well. The result is I hardly get sick, and look years younger, as a bonus, men notice me more and many times they are younger than me!

Nutrient Masks

Nutrient Masks I use:

1/4 of a Banana + 1 tablespoon of honey = for facial smoothing and nutrient cleanse.
Leave on 30 minutes before rinsing.

1 tablespoon honey with 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt = for glowing skin.
Leave on for 30 minutes before rinsing. This remedy is a popular skin remedy in the Middle East.

1-2 egg whites = cleansing mask, sucks out all impurities on your skin.
Allow egg whites to dry, then allow an additional 5 minutes before rinsing.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hello,

I have a quick question but one that's serious for me. I am using hydrogen peroxide as a toner and it has done wonders to my skin. But I keep hearing about how it is an oxidant and that it will cause my skin to age; is this true? Should I stop using it on my face? This is my fear thank you.

Oatmeal and Baking Soda Scrub
Posted by Jk (Lorimor, Ia, Usa) on 05/15/2010

Tee, I just grab a handful of oatmeal from the box and mix in enough baking soda until it kind of looks good. I keep it in a container and when I'm in the shower I just rub this into my face like any facial scrub. I do this twice a day, but I have pretty tough skin and also very oily. If you have any acne, it may tingle a little. I love the results! I'm also trying it on my cellulite on my legs. We'll see?!?

Tee, I forgot! I don't let it sit on like a mask. I just rub it in good and then rinse off. Hope it works for you!

Raw Cocoa Butter
Posted by Carlos (Barcelona, Spain) on 04/16/2010

Hi

PLEASE if you read this run and try to find 100% pure unrefined cocoa butter. IM writing from experience.I have tried many of the remedies and beauty advices in this website like ACV and hdrogen peroxide on my face.Ive tried most oils you can like jojoba, sesame olive oil.ive used aloe vera, soy milk,..Ive used snail cream and other chemical regular cheap and expensive brands that I cant list here.

The truth is I die for cosmetics specially natural and Im always in the look for the next new thing. While browsing I found out an article talking about recent studies stating cocoa had 5 times more antioxidant than green tea pomegranade etc. I remember cocoa had always been in my grandma bathroom as a body mostourizer, but it was the procesed product with everything on it alcohol fragance etc.

So I went to the afro store and bougt the most famous brand whose name starts with"P". It claims to have cocoa and E vitamin.I started to use it on my face,I saw improvement but I flt the chemicals on it althou I could feel cocoa was definately good.It was clearing my face and very mosturizing. So i went on looking for the pure 100% cocoa butter with absolutely nothing but cocoa butter.I found a store that sells just basic stuff no brand, you ask for the weight you want and they give you a white bottle with raw cocoa butter. It was solid and smell sostrong and sweet. More than any chocolate Ive ever had.

Well I washed my face with warm water. I did put a bit of it in th microwave and it became oil.I did put it in my face and.....o man.

Im 28,Im a man but I wore make up before cause I worked in modeling.I gotta tell you after few hours I looked just exactly as if I had make up on.REALLY

My skin tone is even and light,I can only see my eyebrows my eyes and my mouth. The rest of my face is even.Ive never felt this mostourized, and Ive tried every oil you can imagine. It absorbs quickly. I smile and watever and theres no tighness.Theres absolutely n problem with eye contact I did put it all over. Needless to say it also leaves your lips in perfect condition.

I gotta say Ive tried many mny things, lookig for ayounger teenage appreance, and I ahvent seen anything work this fast, this good.

Also dont worry if you are prone to acne, I just dont feel any bump or irritation. My skin is the most sensitive you can find that I dont use any alcohol based products. Its gentle, smells like heaven, and I think you wont need daily make up with this. Nive glow and shine. You can always wipe it a bit onceabsorbed if you dont like the shiny look.I do.I just cant imagine what this can do to your skin ona daily regimen. And the smell oh so good.
lease reply and lt me know how it works for you.

ATTENTION: Dont buy just any product stating cocoa butter. It will have other oils aditives aromas and alcohol that may irritate your skin or agravate acne. Find the raw cocoa butter,it will take you some time but its worth it. You dont need any extra oil vitamin added cocoa alone will rejuvenate your face trust me

Olive Oil
Posted by Erin (Tuttle, Ok, Usa) on 04/14/2010

I've been obsessed with skin care since I was around 16 (I'm 27 now). I think my obsession stemmed from the fact that my mother looks very old for her age due to years and years of smoking. So, I've used an eye cream day/night moisturizers for over 10 years now. I must say that my favorite moisturizer to use at night is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. A very popular Japanese beauty/skin care company sells a tiny bottle of organic extra virgin olive oil for upwards of $40. I buy a large 17 ounce bottle of the same stuff at the grocery store for $6. It lasts forever. All I do is warm a dime sized amount in my hands and pat it on my face after cleansing before bed, concentrating on my forehead and around my eyes. I tend to get lots of compliments on my skin and although I drink tons of water and don't drink or smoke, I like to think that EVOO is really what's helping my skin.

Turmeric

I've had acne since I can remember. I've been on every drug available pretty much, up to and including accutaine/isotrenin. I was fed up and about to go back for more Big Pharma when I found out about this site, and I have to say, this is probably my favorite remedy. I make a paste with about 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp honey and 1/2 tsp hydrogen peroxide. I leave it on for about 10 minutes. Yes, it makes my face yellow, and yes, I have to work to get it off - I usually use a face scrub and more hydrogen peroxide - but it's worth it. My skin is more toned, smaller pores, acne flares dried up a little. And what's more, my turmeric is old and has been sitting in my pantry for a good 10 years or so, and I still get good results. Imagine if it was fresh!

Omega Oils: 3, 6, and 9

I started taking two 1200 mgs capsules of omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 (fish, flax & borage oils) this week. I noticed in just a few days that my skin was glowing! I have mild rosacea (looks like I have a permanent sunburn across my cheeks and nose), sensitive, combination skin. I usually have dry patches and the occasional pimple as well. It's frustrating to find any products that my skin can tolerate and make it look good! I usually just use castile soap to wash. I had no idea how fast my skin would turn around for the better! It's smooth, glowing (not shiny) with no dry spots and no new acne. I highly recommend the omegas for beautiful skin!

Omega Oils: 3, 6, and 9
Posted by Stacey (Abbotsford, Bc, Canada) on 09/08/2012

I've also noticed an improvement in my skin since taking Omega 3 oils. I wasn't really taking them for skin but I noticed that some old body acne that wouldn't go away was starting to recede. I've been taking them for a month now.

I'd recommend 2 things: 1- make sure you're taking a pharaceutical grade for best results. And 2- look into mega dosing. I'm on a 2 week kick of taking 10-15 grams of Omega 3's daily with no adverse affects; well some gas and bloating but I can live with it. North Americans are so deficient in Omega oils that I think it's beneficial to mega dose when starting out, unless your body has adverse effects. Then taper off to normal dosing after a while.

Olive, Coconut, Avocado Oil

Beautiful Skin: There were scientific studies done in the cosmetic industry to determine the best oil for penetration into the skin. The 3 that were able to actually penetrate the deepest were Olive oil, Coconut oil and Avocado oil. I personally think Avocado oil is the best, it has the closest composition to olive oil though. However, I love coconut milk for my face as well.. it is baby soft and absorbs very quickly. Shea butter for the body is wonderful as well!

Vitamin C
Posted by Patti (Ewing, NJ ) on 03/26/2009

Vitamin C and youthful skin: I knew someone who used to take Vitamin C crystals several times a day. He looked so young and his skin was always glowing and healthy. He was 40 at the time and played sports so he was in the sun a lot. He told me the he took the vitamin C for a lot of reasons but a bonus was that it worked on the collegan in the skin. He explained it this way. If your skin is the bricks, the collagen would be the morter between the bricks. As you age the mortar (Collagen) breaks down and things start to sag. But the vitamin C works to keep that collagen firm. Naturally I started taking the Vitamin C right away. This was over 12 years ago. I take Ester C, and have gradually increased my dosage up to 5000 mgs a day. I will take 2 500 mg capsules upon waking, then with all three meals, then at bedtime. This amount works for me and I learned a lot about it from reading the works of Linus Pauling. I found that I was the one who didn't get all of the virus's and colds going around. I used to get sore throats all the time, no matter what the season, which sometimes led to wicked strept throat. No more. I'm sure this is because of the Ester C. I'm almost 51, and no one has guessed my age to be in my 40s yet. I keep my age to myself but not the benefits of vitamin C!

Tibicos
Posted by Angie (Claremont, CA) on 03/25/2009

Tibicos: (Chinese mushroom, kefir) cured my constipation, blemishes on cheeks .

I haven't heard of anyone posting anything on Tibicos also known as (Chinese mushroom, kefir)

Little bit of info: The Chinese mushroom was sent to Mexico by Mother Teresa from Calcutta with the desire to help to cure persons, especially those with few resources or living in remote places where there are no doctors or medicines. It is good for arthritis, migraines, cancer, heart, digestive system, liver, muscles, nerves, eyes, skin, lungs, kidneys, and blood. In addition it keeps body temperature regulated, and drinking it helps alcoholics to quit.

Well anyway, I gave it a try after my mom urged me to drink it. I drank the brew and noticed that my constipation that I had been dealing for months went away. It totally cleans out my system. I also noticed that the blemishes that I have had on my cheeks for many years are starting to fade. I could barely notice them now. I just started drinking the brew about 3 weeks ago. My skin looks radiant. A friend just asked me the other day what I was doing to my skin because it was just glowing. I've always had dry flaky skin and to get a compliment like that was just awesome. Anyway, just wanted to share what it did for me. I think that people should know about it.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes (Remedy): I have recently been made aware of the benefits of tomatoes. For facial skin: I was told to cut a slice of tomatoe and rub it on my clean face before going to be and wash off in the morning. The results are amazing it is closing my pores, it has demolished the acne on my face almost inmediately, cleared my face tone and texture. I rub it all over including my mouth and eyes, my skin is looking fantastic.

For hair loss, shine and thickness and growth, I was told to puree fresh tomatoes and apply to clean hair, preferably leave it on overnite and wash off in the morning. It is really messy and I have noticed the first time lost of shine and less breackage, however it being so messy I have not stuck to the regimen wich should be twice a week. The person that told me about this had a problem with her hair thinning and acne, she swears by it and has beautiful hair and skin. Also was told drink it for overall good health, processing it through a juicer by itself or with other vegetables, I will do so, as soon as get the juicer and write back.

Oil Cleansing Method

For a few months now I have been using this method and it has really worked for me. My skin is softer, smoother, and is clearer. I have always have problem skin and now at 36 yrs old I feel like I have found something that really works for me and is less expansive.

In the morning, I clean my face with witchhazel using cotton ball; then use warm damp cloth over face and neck. Sometimes I use BORAX when my skin feels oily, just sprinkle a little and add water to make paste, then rub on face and splash it off with warm water. The borax paste also works like an exfoliant.

At night, I rub VCO on face and neck. Wipe off with tissue, then use warm/damp cloth.

After cleaning, I moisturize with jojoba oil both day and night. In the daytime, I add sunscreen to my routine.

Recently I have tried the mask using honey and milk (a recipe I found here on EC) and I love the way the mask makes my skin feels. Soft and the lines are less noticeable.

I used VCO as a moisturize and found it was not hydrating enough for my skin. But I love it a cleanser. I even take 1 TBSP VCO internally every day and I feel like I have more energy and my skin feels clearer also. Oh, one more thing, yes, I did break out during the first week of trying this method. I think it was due to the impurities coming out of my skin.

Good luck and hang in there if you do break out some. Your skin is just detoxing itself.
