Lemons
★★★★★
I would like to let people know what I have found, I have tried everything, could not tolerate Apple Cider Vinegar, so I started eating lemons and taking shots of bottle lemon juice. I also drink lemon water and take shots during the day, this is day and night 5. Not one hot flash, after 6 months of misery.

Maca Root
★★★★★
Maca root seems to really have helped my hot flashes in just 1 week! I came home from a long hall flight and suddenly started getting hot flashes - I was worried that it was pre menopause starting... I did some research on this site (love, love Earth Clinic) and some other recipe sites. One week ago I started taking this morning drink of: 1 tsp maca powder, 1 tsp raw cocoa, 1 tsp organic regular cocoa, 1/3 tsp molasses mixed with warm raw almond milk or raw unpasteurised milk. Its delicious and has the added benefit of reducing my morning coffee intake (which is also supposed to reduce hot flashes). I'm loving this drink - Macca has a bitter coffee like flavour and its the warm, creamy, comforting drink I love in the morning. I do not feel deprived of my coffee at all. My understanding is I should only be having 1 tsp of maca a day but I like this drink so much I sometimes make a second one. Seriously, the last two nights I've had no sweating whatsoever. Thank you for Earth Clinic for pointing me in the direction of maca for hormonal balance.

[YEA] I'm in my early 40's and started getting the feeling of being zapped in the middle of my body and then it would spread from head to toe for about 15 seconds. I believe it's a pre-menopause "hot flash" but for me it wasn't hot, just like being hit with an odd energy flow. I did some reading and tried a few things, then started taking 1000mg of Maca root when I wake up in the morning. Those zaps went away but my monthly cycle was more painful than before. I was craving chocolate a lot and read that it may be a sign of the need for magnesium. So I started taking slow release (SRT) magnesium, 500mg per day and after a few months my cycle became more comfortable than before.
I believe the Maca root helps with natural hormone balance, when the imbalance is mild. That is why I took it over black cohosh. I've read black cohosh adds estrogen which could cause your body to produce less, whereas the Maca root encourages your pituitary gland to produce balance in whatever is needed more. It's a facilitator more than a supplement. Not sure if that's true but I can take Maca root with less concern and it works for me.
No Coffee, No Soda, Only Cold Baths
★★★★★
I stopped drinking coffee and soda's especially diet soda's. I also take cool bathes and I have not had a hot flash in months until recently I took a warm almost hot bath and that night I woke up with a hot flash. Next evening I took a cool bath and no more hot flashes.
Oil Pulling
★★★★★
I have been doing oil pulling for about 13 months now. My hot flashes almost disappeared. I do it first thing in the morning while in the shower and at night while watching, for 10-15 minutes. I can tell that it is working because this summer we were traveling, had guests over etc. and I did not do it regularly and my hot flashes and night sweats came back. Now I'm back to my daily routine and they almost are gone.

Olive Leaf for Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
I had been suffering from hot flashes and night sweats for over a year when I had to start taking antihistamines for another problem. After I started taking the antihistamines I noticed my hot flashes and night sweats had stopped. Just for fun, I googled antihistamines and hot flashes and saw that a lot of women are taking antihistamines for their hot flashes. Zyterc actually did a study and it showed reduce hot flashes while taking their pills. Well, I liked not having hot flashes anymore but I didn't want to have to keep taking antihistamines so I did a little more online research and found a website that talked about histamine intolerance. I started to remove some of the foods I know cause my face to heat up and turn red, wine, chocolate, anything fermented. I also started cooking with olive oil as they suggested. I also started eating beets once a day. Beets are supposed to help your body produce something called DAO which supposedly gets rid of excess histamine. I also started taking olive leaf capsules. OMG, not only do these capsules take away my hot flashes, my seasonal allergies are non existent this spring. Amazing!
Olive Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar
★★★★★
I started taking a high quality extra virgin olive oil from Trader Joe's for heart health. I take a shot glass full of olive oil & follow with a 16 oz glass of water mixed with 1-2 tablespoons ACV. My hot flashes miraculously disappeared.
Omega 3
★★★★★
Just wanted to share this with anyone who may be suffering with hot flashes and can't seem to get relief.
I tried pretty much everything on the market for menopause/hot flashes, including Promensil and other herbal remedies, hormone creams, visits to mainstream doctors (who wanted to put me on the pill!! ), naturopaths, etc. without any help or relief.
It was getting so bad that I was having what felt like one lo-o-o-ng hot flash. It just wouldn't let up! (Anyone who deals with this knows just how incapacitating it is! )
I started taking 2000 mg omega 3s and added some B6 500 mg for arthritis. While I didn't see a big difference for the arthritis, I realized that my hot flashes had finally stopped. To find out if it really was the omega 3, I quit taking it for a few days, and sure enough, the hot flashes were back.
This has been a Godsend and I truly hope this info helps someone in the same hot boots!
Thanks for the great website too!
Vi, from the Omega 3 plant oils, I have read that Evening Primrose Oil is the absolute best for menopausal problems. How they compare to fish oils I dunno. It is easy to get the fish in the diet, and suppliment with Flax, Sun & Safflower, Borage. Also, when one takes therapeutic doses of Omega 3's, it is advised to also increase Vit-E up to 800 or more iu's daily to protect the fragile unsaturated fats from free radical damage.
Pine Bark
★★★★★
I started having hot flashes and for a couple of months did nothing. Then I read in our paper that pine bark helps with hot flashes. I took one pill each day and it started working for me right away. I had no hot flashes for at least six months. Then one week i didn't take it everyday because I forgot and now it doesn't seem to be helping any. I started taking black cohash and it doesn't help at all. Please try the pine bark because it worked fantastic on me with no side effects. They usually recommend one pill in the morning and one at night but I only did the one in the morning.

This is an update on the pine bark extract. It started working again and very well, but I noticed every three or four months that it would not work 100 %. The one really great think about pine bark extract is there are no known side effects and it is a strong antioxident. Anyways so every few months I would have about three weeks of mostly no hot flashes, just occasionly would get warm. After about a year I upped my intake to two pills per day. Worked wonderful for a good year at least. I am now going through actual menapause I believe, since I haven't had a period for about five months. Pine Bark still works amazingly well, but here and there I will get a hot flash. Decided to up it to three per day because I don't want to have them at all. I figure my body is going through the severe change right now. So three a day is working well, just having an occasional semi flash! Still swear by this stuff, since no side effects.

Raw Chicken Liver
★★★★★
After ten days of consuming one whole organic chicken liver raw every day, my hot flashes had decreased by 90%. It contains zinc, iron, copper, selenium, all the b vitamins, Vit A, Vit D, Vit E, etc so it's smarter than buying and choking down the inferior (and potentially dangerous) supplement forms of these. Eating it cooked is effective as well, I assume. I was also drinking ACV and lemon water during this time, though these had not helped me with hot flashes on their own, so I attribute the healing to the single greatest food on the planet. As a bonus, my cracked and peeling skin has been improving drastically, no migraines, great energy, appetite low. I take with half n half (raw, pastured) and I'm also Carnivore diet 8 months so perhaps the combination of no processed food / no plant food is important to note. Good luck.

Soy
★★★★★
Soy milk powder cured my hot flashes. I also tried everything under the sun, but the soy milk poweder was the only sure thing. If I miss one dose, they're back! I take a tablespoon in the morning, with tea or over cereal, doesn't matter. Take another dose in the evening if necessary, works like a charm!!

Soy
★★★★★
Hi, Thank you so much for your website, because my whole family is healthier and happier due to the natural remedies that I have found here. I am so very happy that I came across this particular remedy, as you can imagine. It was a bit by accident because I had bought my 16 yr old some protein drinks by Bolthouse Farms because, after reading the ingredients, I was impressed by how natural the product was and it also had added vitamins and minerals. My son is playing sports and growing really fast (6'5") now, so I wanted the best for his body. The drink has soy protein in it, and I had heard that soy was one of the best sources for protein. My husband & I also drink it off and on after working out, and the taste is great (believe me, I don't work for the company even though it may sound like I do!) But one night I decided I would warm a cup of it up and drink it before I went to bed.....so I did, and I have not slept this good in a long time. I have not had one hot flash since that first night of the warm drink, and I am sleeping in a more deep sleep than I have done in years! I then remembered that I had read a few months back that in countries where women do not suffer from hot flashes and other menopause problems, it is because they have a diet high in soy. Then it all made sense to me as to why the before bed soy drink had helped me so much. It did not really help my menopause symptoms till I did the warm drink at night. I don't know if it will help others like it did me, but I am going to keep drinking it! Thank you so much.

WARNING!
One should always be careful when trying soy, that they do not have an allergy to it. I do and 1/4 oz of it can send me to the bathroom for hours, whether it be soy milk, tofu, miso, hydrolyzed soy protein, msg, etc. I also puff up like a blowfish... For a lot of skin problems I use extra virgin coconut oil, for upset stomachs, and dieting. I am just going to try ACV for hot flushes now. I will let you know how it turns out.
Soy

It was getting to the point where I could not enjoy going out to eat or spend any time with my friend due to the sweats that left me wet from from my head, neck, arms and under my breast. It was so uncomfortable that I felt as if I was going to combust from the heat. Only a women can explain the feeling and how awful it makes you feel. A glass of soy milk a day stopped them, and if I did get one it was very, very mild.
Supplements That Trigger Hot Flashes
Warning!
I was having bad hot flushing (menopausal) that lasted for hours especially in the evening. One day I didn't take the whole foods vitamin c I had been taking and hot flushing was 90% better. So my suggestion is to one by one stop taking your supplements to see if they might be making things worse.
