Natural Remedies for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Maca
Posted by Emjae (Georgia, US) on 08/28/2014

I began having heavy bleeding a few years ago. My blood level was in the 19 range... 50, I think, is normal. I'd bleed so heavy I would have to change both tampon and pad every 20 min for 3 days... ugh And the cramps...

I began taking a natural herb called Maca. I now have a "normal" one day heavy flow. Changing every 2-3 hours. :) Maca is a God send.

Excess Clear Discharge

Excess Clear Discharge: Hi, I am hoping someone can help with what is an embarrassing condition. It is an excess clear vaginal discharge problem. It is worse just after my period for about ten days, after which, it seems to be less problematic. I am in my twenties and it has been like this since I can remember. Just wondering could diet or something be causing/affect it as sometimes it does seem to be worse than others. I don't take the pill or meds. Periods are regular so I dont' wanna consider any kind of medication and am wondering if this could be addressed naturally. The doctor has done infection tests/hormone test and has said that all is o.k

Since it's a liguid from the body , I would suppose salt of some sort..... Try a multi mineral supplement equal magnesium and calcium with all the trace minerals and give it a go.... Just a guess ?

A hair analysis might give a clue. I have never had one.

From what you say, I'm thinking it's ovulation. Google signs of ovulation.. You may have your answer there. I had the same thing and was always concerned but doc said I was ok. Years later I read this, kept a journal and thats what it was. Best wishes!

Thanks Addy, Joy, for your feedback. With regard to it being ovulation, Addy, the frustrating thing is that the girl that I share a room with at college doesn't evn wear underwear, unless and until she is on a period, so it's frustrating having to wear pads for the best part of the month, although I know she is on the pill. I read an article that says that it obviously varies according to individual women but a tablespoon a day is considered normal and its definately more that than. I was just wondering if it is something that could be dealt with naturally. I don't have a naturpath locally. I have usually just tolerated it, but a few months ago, I remembered thinking that I hadn't seen it for a while and I was just wondering if diet/lifestyle changes had anything to do with it, however, I can't remember at the time any changes that I had made. Thanks though for your concern and feedback.

Hi, have you tried taking folic acid supplements? These might help your issue. Just a thought.

Stab in the dark - recently my prolapsed bladder was painful and I was getting desperate and tried to put some milk of magnesia inside the vagina and outside it with my finger coated with it...

The whole day until I washed it off the whole are was overly dry and felt uncomfortably dry dry dry..... With the bladdder rubbing down there it was uncomfortable. No rash or redness or any after shocks.

Hi Gena, thanks for your reply. I would be curious as to why you mentioned folic acid, as I did actually test deficient for this a couple of months ago, but I never thought they might be related. Thanks

Hi, folic acid is known to increase the lining of the uterine wall so that's what came to mind when I read your post. Let us know if it helps. There might be female herbs you can try that will help too. I will see if I can find any herbs on the net that will help this.

If I'm not mistaken, Folic Acid helps w/ RNA multiplication, which translates into "healing". The amino acid Glycine appears to work very similar to the Folate. Glycine also helps with detoxification, is a natural nervine, and an excellent natural sweetener (add to any beverage or food).

Could be dairy. For me dairy causes excess mucous in my throat, feces, and vaginal discharge.

You're supposed to have a discharge that is clear and kind of looks like egg whites this is telling you that you have released an egg and conditions are right for a baby. I have used this method as well as taking my basil body temperature before getting out of bed. If your temp has dropped that's another sign that it is time to try for a baby. Another way is to reach up and touch the cervix. You will be able to tell if it is opened or closed. Every women need to know how her body works.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Hi there, I took 4 teaspoons of White Vinegar on Friday when my periods was about to take place to stop them and also another 4 teaspoon on saturday, since then my periods never came. It's like I am skipping them for this month because this is the 4th week now of not having my periods. I am worried but others says it will come next month if I stop using a vinegar. So please help, is this true?

I don't get period for 2-3 months, and then get them continously for a month. I'm getting married in August, and I don't want to take birth control as it has severe side effects on me. I recently got my period after 1.5 month and now they are not stopping. They are heavy to light at the moment. Please give me some home remedies to stop this as soon as possible and a solution to further fix this problem permanently. Really need help, im feeling very sick and tired, and doctors here give nothing but birth control. Looking forward for your reply. Thanks, Areej

Areej, try a glass or two of sage tea a day for a few months.

Also get the book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause. Even though you are young our bodies are flooded by the hormones in our meat and poultry that cause hormone imbalances similar to menopause. Usually they plump up the critters /food with estrogen and that is what can cause a progesterone imbalance....

John Lee M. D, was a ob/gyn who helped women find some answers to this dilemma and the book is great. Most of the pages in mine have bent corners, book marks and notes in pencil. Some women that couldn't conceive used this book to help them.

I was struggling with hemorrhage for a while, came to this site, and I must confess, I was greatly relieved when I knew some other people were in my shoes and already had a cure even without visiting d hospital. These few steps have worked for me so far.. I changed my diet to include a lot of cayenne peppers in my food, and lots of water. Also, whenever I use d restroom, I insert vegetable oil in d affected part, and stand while using d restroom. This has worked so far for me... Hope everybody experiencing this situation is also cured... thanks

Red Raspberry Tea

Thanks Colleen that's great info, I used to think this tea was just for expectant mothers but it makes sense it's good for uterus in general. Incidentally I have only heard good things about this tea from a close friend at work who swears by it for her very quick births.. 3 hours labour the first time and 11/2tge second time.. She says she took it non stop all day every day according to thirst for the week before her due date!

Cod Liver Oil

Few things that helped resolved my menstrual issues:

Raw foods during your period will cut down length of the cycle, and will give you lighter bleeding.

Good quality Cod liver oil, all month long, but increased quantities during period, will CONSIDERABLY reduce bleeding.

Daily exercise or walking briskly.

Good luck!

Hi EC, I am 49 years old and has not had a period for the past six months. I always use motherwort for mild anxiety on and off so yesterday I decided to take a dropperful and what do you know..... I got up this morning with a period. I was stunned to put it lightly. I thought I was over with this. Anyone knows what's going on? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you guys.

Wild Yam
Posted by Serena (Palm Springs, Ca) on 12/07/2011

Hello,

I have recently started using the birth control pill, and the first month, I got my period after only 19 days even though I was still on the hormone pills. It lasted for about 6 days, and by the time I started the sugar pills I had nothing... No spotting, no period. I am afraid that will happen again this month (I start the neck pack tomorrow, which will be day 1), and I really don't want to get my period, have spotting, or any breakthrough bleeding until its time.

I have heard that Yarrow tincture or Wild Yam tincture can help with this. I also read that Cayenne pepper and Vitamin C can also help. Has anyone had any success with any of these? Any other suggestions?

I am going out of tow. In 2 weeks and reallyyyyyy don't want to eat with any "surprises". Thanks in adavnce!

Does anyone have any experience with Wild Yam tincture? I saw online somewhere that's it's good for breakthrough bleeding for menopausal women... so I'm wondering if it can help with my breakthrough bleeding due to my body getting adjusted to birth control...

Coconut Water, Cayenne
Posted by Cece (Elmont, New York) on 10/11/2011

Menstrual pain became so severe for me that I wished I did not have a period. The pain would hit me so hard that I felt nauseated. One day at work, out of sheer desperation I went into the bathroom, wet a wad of paper towel under hot water, went into the stall and sat with that hot towel clenched on my belly button. I sat there and suddenly - splat! - I looked down and a fat blob of curdled blood looked up at me - and the pain was gone! I started examining what I ate via a journal and realized that things such as cheese, white bread (margarine), beef and alcohol cause me distress when it came around to my menses. I theorized that it was the food I was eating that caused a problem with circulation. I stopped eating all forms of dairy, started drinking lots of room temperature water.

When it was time for my menses, I drank lots of plain room temperature coconut water with a dash of cayenne pepper. That put an end to the debilitating pain! I've passed on the remedy to all my friends. Even if you don't practice good eating habits, when that pain hits, reach for the room temperature coconut water with a dash of cayenne pepper! IT WORKS in half an hour! If you don't have coconut water (no cans, please), use semi contra tea aka mexican tea, american wormwood, epazote with a dash of cayenne.

Turmeric
Posted by Francisca (Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France) on 09/13/2011

Hi, I don't have periods anymore, painful or otherwise but out of curiosity, how do you make Turmeric tea? I bought a bag in the pharmacy, thinking that it would be the root, leaves or something but it was the yellow powder. Now I use it in the kitchen because I wasn't sure whether I should just dilute the powder in the water!

Moon Cycle
Posted by Carly (Seattle, Wa Usa) on 03/13/2011

Hi -
I was reading that this month is something called a "SuperMoon" on March 19th. The moon will be closer to the earth then than it has been in the last 18 years. Going on the things I have read in the past on how the moon effects a womans monthly cycle....I am wondering how many of you are having issues this month that you normally don't? I always cycle at 28 days...ALWAYS. Except this month. One week late. No, not pregnant. Just wondering if anyone else has had any unusual stuff going on...
Thanks for any input!

Your menstual cycle is based on your hormones... not the moon.

Moon Cycle
Posted by Carly (Seattle, Wa Usa) on 03/13/2011

Thanks for the feedback Robin - I am normally spot on (no pun intended) every 28 days too - that is why I was wondering it there were others experiencing off things this month. I appreciate your sharing!

M- If it is purely hormones that control the menstrual cycle, than how come over 200,000 results come up when I type "Menstrual cycle and the moon" on a certain search engine?

I for one, find this "SuperMoon" stuff absolutely fascinating!

Here is an excerpt from "menstruation.com.au":

Human beings are affected by the moon. Women especially are affected by the moon and their menstrual cycle is intimately linked to this celestial body.

The moon:

  • regulates your menstrual cycle,

  • can trigger ovulation and fertile times,

  • affects your emotions and

  • affects the way people behave and view the world.

  • Women are connected to the moon by our blood, our hormones and our souls.

The first step in claiming the gifts of our menstrual cycle is to become re-acqainted with Mother Moon. Putting aside all the scientific phenomena of the way the Moon affects the earths tides, weather, animals, fluids and moods, symbolically the Moon has a lot to teach us.

In myth the Moon is a primary female archetype travelling the great round of Birth, Maturation, Death and Rebirth each month. This is a primal fundamental cycle of the universe of which every single living thing participates.

HI U CARLY,
First I want to say that listening to you and your menstrual cycle and the phase of the moon is not offensive to me. I find it very educational.

I am sorry if I offended folks by saying we in deep stuff due to the goins on in Japan. Of course you Left Coast folks will know sooner than us in the fly over country. Have a nice day.====RH===

Moon Cycle

My periods are normally 26 days, but this time its due more about 2 weeks. No, not pregnant. Moon does effect our menstrual cycles. When we are in the first 3 days of the cycle and it happens to be a full moon day, the bleeding will be heavy at nights. I have experienced it first hand.

I have to agree, the moon does have an effect. I have amenhorrea (very very infrequent periods) and I'm having my first in over a year. Very bad, very crampy, and what do you know........ Supermoon cycle. I am convinced there is a link. I'll let you know if I have another ne in 18 years!

My daughters cycle actually is longer this month heavier on the 19th. Only been mensturating less than a year. I thought that was a reason. This could be another reason to consider.

Wow! I was wondering why this past cycle was so strange and off! I forgot it was the month of the supermoon. I was about 2 weeks late on my period and negative on pregnancy.
