Mustard Oil and Salt
Posted by Daidela (Sarasota, Fl) on 12/10/2011

To Ladyhawk of Sarasota: I live in Sarasota and have a loose tooth I would like to try to tighten using the mustard oil and salt. Do you know a store here that sells it? I tried googling where to buy but got no hits. Thanks for your help.

Itchy Gums
Posted by Obeybunny (Santa Ana, California, United States Of America) on 11/30/2011

Does anyone know any remedies for itchy gums? I'd rather treat the cause than simply apply pain relievers. This has been a periodic problem over the last… oh…. 15 years of my life. My gums will just become itchy for no reason for about a month before the problem just goes away on its own. But during that month, I'm scraping at my teeth and gums with anything- sticks, my fingernails, my shirt, toothbrushes dipped in baking soda, pieces of plastic I've taken from birthday gifts that I've cut into sharp triangles, anything- all day and causing a darker reddening (probably bruising) of my gums.

I've been able to tolerate a few hours of not scratching at my gums by putting ground cloves directly on my gums. This treats the itching but probably isn't fixing the cause.

As far as I know, I've never been diagnosed as having gingivitis, but that doesn't mean I don't have it.

So if anyone knows how to make the itching stop, I'd be so grateful.

Thank you Earth Clinic staff and members!

Hi Obeybunny, Try swishing your urine in your mouth at regular intervals. Urine helps for a lot of things. When I bite the inside of my mouth I use urine or try using salt but urine works quicker. Good luck.

I have itchy gums too. It comes and goes (for the last year) and I can't pinpoint the problem but I'm looking into dehydration (from coffee, too much sodium, fiber, etc). I am also considering carbs, allergies to foods, certain proteins, etc. One thing that calms them down is zinc. Take a zinc, preferably a type that doesn't make you nauseous and try drinking a lot of water. Your best bet is to keep a food journal and note the times when gums are itchy.

This is for the individual who wanted to know remedies to improve the condition of her gums. American Botanical Pharmacy sells "Daily Oral Therapy, " that reverses gum disease. It is not inexpensive but it is worth it. Their website is www.herbdoc.com.

Their herbs are formualted by a Master Herbalist and N.D. who has 20 years of clinical experience reversing so called "incurable" diseases. Their herbs are organically grown or wildcrafted. They sell a superfoods formula which is excellent.

This N.D. recommends that one detoxifies by starting out with cleansing the colon first; then, you can go on to cleanse your kidneys/bladder, liver, etc. Must start out with colon always.

Hope this will help.

First, I want to thank eveyone for all the great advice. Some I knew and some I didn't. This is a great resource.

What finally worked for me was a dilution of 35% food grade Hydrogen Peroxide. You probably have to get this stuff online and it isn't cheap but will last for years if you keep in it in the freezer where it remains liquid.

I used one part 35% to 5 or 6 parts distilled water. I then soaked a small wad of cotton batten with the mixture and tucked it between my front lip and tooth/gum. It was 10 times more effective than the 3% peroxide! I set the timer for 10 minutes but I was still spitting (more like a controlled drool) foamy saliva and left it in for about a 1/2 hour until the foam almost disappeared. 90% of the pain is gone and I feel better all round. Yes. You will foam at the mouth and scare small children, but the foam is actually dead bacteria mixed with your saliva. Keep a glass nearby to catch the foamy saliva.

I tried oil pulling with a couple of drops of Oregano Oil but I just don't like doing it very much although I felt a little improvement.

You should also take a good immune booster to help fight off the bad bacteria that is having a party in your body. Olive Leaf Extract, or up to 20 grams(20,000 mgs.) of Vitamin C. I had a product called Immutol lying around and I've been taking 2 capsules three or four times a day.

I also swished MMS which means Miracle Mineral Supplement. It's cheap and for about $20 you get two years worth of the stuff. It cures just about everything so naturally the Feds moved in and the originator, Jim Humble, moved his whole shebang to the Dominican Republic. Go to www.miraclemineral.org to learn more about this wonderful product that has already cured thousands of people.

I have a front tooth crown that had a root canal about 14 years ago. About 8 years ago it started to "act up" on occasion and I applied Oregano Oil and/or Tea Tree Oil and in a day or so the inflammation and mild pain would go away.

Three years ago I had to leave work because not only was my tooth and gum very painful but I felt horrible all over. I guess the infection invaded my entire body. I used an EFT protocol called Faster EFT originated by Robert Smith. (He has a zillion videos on YouTube) After an hour of frenzied tapping the pain disappered and I felt normal. Amazing.

Problem is Faster EFT didn't work for me last year -- or this. Drat! But, watch some of his videos -- it's free and easy to learn.

By the way, I do not sell anything and I have no financial interest in any products.

hi , im reporting back my feedback

Went to the dentist yesterday, I was oil pulling with coconut oil from 21st may, not good, gums were pinker, but gaps no change, plus another tooth was receding, I was also taking coenzyme q 10 30mg 3 x daily, also vitamin c and zinc lozenges. 600mg 1 a day. Brushing with aloe vera tooth paste, 2x daily, and chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash. Fed up. Went back to health shop, they told me to increase to 6 a day with the coenzyme q 10 30 mg. That seems alot to me, I will increase it to 4 a day, plus still to take vitamin c and zinc lozenges, take 2 a day, I walked out of the health shop with pure vitamin c powder it says 2500mg per serving. I'll just rub a small bit on my gums, plus I got vitamin e-400 I.U. To take internally, and to rub on my gums, thats only 1 a day. ill let u know my feedback, my dentist wants me back 2nd august, I really do not want to go, cause I know whats next to happen, I honestly hope what I am going to take will cure my problems, bye for now.x

Hi , I know this post is so very old and I am probably to late to make much of a difference if your gum disease has progressed. I got diagnosed with this horrid disease also and read up about it, Apparently I came across a dentist called Rami Nagel who cured his daughter's dental decay.

Well overall, I learned that a diet that is rich in grains that has not been prepared the correct way can lead to huge dental probs. Since I started eating more wholegrain stuff and became vegetarian that was the start of all my health issues. Apparenetly these grains are covered in physic acid natures way of protecting the grain and the body can utilise it, intact it binds to calcium and zinc and other minerals important for bone and removes it froth body as it passes through the system unassimilated. It has to be removed through sprouting soaking or souring. Google it up online, there are lots of sources.

Vit d also imperative and a good homemade remineralising toothpaste, flossing and I think mostly change diet, avoid sugar like plague. This is day 3 for me with no sugar, wow its hard, I did buy some xylitol for when I fancied a hot chocolate to take that craving for sweets away. Even too much fruit is bad, for teeth, that has decay or other issues. I hope even though it is years after your post, you or someone else finds this little bit of info helpful. Sorry I have not given lots of details.

Hydrogen Peroxide

hi ya, i ordered of the internet last night, food grade hydrogen peroxide h202 35% in a 250ml bottle. I dont think there is a dropper with it, ill have to go to local chemist for one. How do I use this as a Mouth Wash? Is it one drop in a large glass of water? Then swilling for a minute. please advise thank you.

The correct way to mix 35% food grade HP is to mix 11 oz. of distilled water and 1 oz. of fghp in a jar with a lid and then you can transfer small amounts of it to a smaller bottle for use. You don't need a dropper for this. I actually pour a small amount of the watered down hp onto my toothbrush, and then brush. I add a little toothpaste on the top of it too. And I brush my tongue too. My mouth feels wonderful afterwards. WARNING: be very careful when pouring the food grade hp into the first bottle. If it gets on your fingers, it will burn, so if this happens, run cold water on the burns.

ah dear, I think I have only ordered the the wrong strenght, in hydrogen peroxide ive ordered 35% instead of 3%, I have emailed the company to see if it has been released, I did explain what it was for, to treat ginivitus, hope they can sort this out, wah a mess, my gums are really sore at the minute, im gonna leave oil pulling for a few days, when I look at my gums now, they do look pinkish, but my gums look like they are receeding more, one tooth at the front of my my mouth wasnt receding but it is now, my heads in bits.x

Hi Diamond, Yes, only use the 3%. Hydrogen peroxide can be tough on your enamel. Never use it straight because it's too strong - I fill 1/4 of the glass with hydrogen peroxide and 3/4 with water, but you can experiment to find a level that works for you. As an added bonus it will whiten your teeth (and so will the oil pulling). You can skip the sea salt, to be honest I don't think it's the most effective part of the routine for me, but for some people it really helps. Stick with the routine for at least a month to see results. Good luck!

Coconut Oil, Oregano Oil, Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Diamond (Cleveland, England) on 06/01/2011

hi jennifer,

Thanks for getting back to me, I will continue the coconut oil awhile longer, I probably aint given it enough time, it has only been 12 days and counting. But like us all, we do worry. I have got some extra virgin olive oil at home, i'll get some wild of oregano oil, putting one drop on my toothbrush mixed with olive oil, also I will purchase a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and pepermint oil.

As for the sea salt, I think i'll give that a miss as I have never had palpitations before. I'll stick to table salt for now, only for swishing before I go to bed. Thank you so much. and thanks to everyone else whom have got back to me quickly with great feedbacks. bye for now.

I do not use table salt or sea salt. To the best of my knowledge, Himalayan Pink Salt is the healthiest salt on the earth. If I am wrong, please correct me... If I am not, do more homework on the subject of salt.

Table salt contains chemicals which are bad for you. Sea Salt is better but pure Himalayan salt is the best it is a host of trace minerals as well as the much needed Iodine. You should never use toothpaste either, look up what is in it and freak. Baking Soda is the best toothpaste.

hi ya jennifer,

Thank you for your feedback, that all sounds very good, with really positive results, could you tell me what sesame oil you are using, I used sea salt from a health shop, but felt terrible after 2 days, I diluted a teaspoon in a cup of water, then swilled round my mouth at night, then I spat it out. I had really bad palpitations, that really scared me, didnt use again ended up in my bin, I will get some oregano oil this week, and hydrogen peroxide, ill check the health shops to see if they ave it. Thank you

Hi Diamond,

EarthClinic won't let me post the name of the particular brand, but I use a generic brand from a very famous natural foods grocery store in the US. It's an untoasted, organic, expeller pressed sesame oil that is unrefined (I have heard though that it's better to oil pull with refined than unrefined oil). You can also try experimenting with other oils if you find that one is not agreeable with you - go to the oil pulling page on this website and see what other people have tried, the options are endless! Sesame oil has been the traditional oil used in Ayurveda, but some people have had success with using coconut, olive, avocado, and other oils. If the sea salt gives you palpitations, it's probably best not to use it. Here in the US, hydrogen peroxide can be found at almost any major drugstore in the first aid section and a bottle costs under $1. Make sure you dilute the HP, because it can be tough on your enamel (but as a great side effect, hydrogen peroxide is a great teeth whitener! ). Give the oregano oil a try too, I had great results after incorporating it into my routine. Be patient and give yourself at least a month to see results. I wish you luck and good health :)

I too developed heart palpitations after swishing with salt water. Helped my mouth tremendously but had to stop due to heart palps. Someone suggested to me that it creates an imbalance of something else (potassium maybe? Can't recall now) but it makes sense!

★★★★☆

hi ya,

ive been oil pulling now for 1 week, to treat gintivitus, my friend asked me how I was doing. I showed her my gums, she then said they look light pink now, but no change with the gaps from my gum to my teeth, I think the pure coconut oil must be doing something, as it is working on my gums, my gums have been really sore the past 2 days only were the gum has come away from my teeth, and really sore when I swallow, been swishing with salt and water, to settle this, I will continue to do oil pulling, just hope its good news at the end, bye for now.

Oil Pulling
Posted by Swmich (Schoolcraft, Michigan) on 05/29/2011

Where did the term "oil pulling" come from. What do they mean by "pulling"?

Oil Pulling
Posted by Jennifer (Sunrise, Fl) on 06/01/2011

Swmich, it is called oil "pulling" because theoretically, you are "pulling" toxins from your saliva (and your body) by swishing the oil around in your mouth. These 'toxins' are supposedly expelled with the oil when you spit the oil out. I don't know if I really believe that. What seems more logical to me is that oil saponifies when agitated and acts as a good cleansing agent, attaching to plaque, bacteria and food debris on your teeth and gums more easily than with standard toothpaste. Scientific studies have shown a reduction of strep bacteria in the mouth after oil pulling - whether this is due to the "pulling" or the antibacterial nature of the sesame oil, who knows... but oil pulling does seem to work! Hope this answers your question.

Oil Pulling

Hi all, I have been oil pulling now for around 10 days, hoping to reverse gingivitis before it progresses into something more serious. I am using cold pressed organic sunflower oil, normally once in the morning for 20 mins and sometimes again for 20 mins before lunch or dinner (depends if I've been snacking! ). I then rinse with salt water with a drop of peppermint essential oil.

So far I've seen no real difference. My breath has been better and I am sleeping deeply but that could also be from a detox I've been doing for the last month or so. My gums look just as white, they are still receding, and my teeth have not whitened. It hasn't been that long since I started but after reading that so many people with more advanced mouth issues are seeing noticeable improvements in such a short time I am skeptical. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

When I spit out the oil I notice it's still thick even after 20 mins. When I OP a second time during the day it's often thinner. My mouth is just so dry and sticky when I wake up in the morning (I drink tons of water all day - at least around 12 glasses - and 2-3 glasses straight after OP).

Maybe after I finish the bottle of sunflower oil I will switch to coconut oil or try adding a drop of oregano oil to the sunflower oil? Any suggestions??

Many thanks EC! X

For the gingivitis, there are several products you can use daily.

Peroxide, diluted bleach (the dentist uses this on root canals), Listerine and brush your teeth with Organic Edible Diatomaceous Earth (I could only get this from the internet).

These products allowed me to keep my own teeth.

I found that oil pulling made my gums worse after just a few days. What worked for me is using a silica toothpaste and flossing. Flossing is very important and can't be neglected. I am sure you will notice a big difference after just a week of flossing every night.

what type of oil were you using? I noticed on your improvement chart the following results:

5 mm. Pockets: went from 9 to 4

4 mm. Pockets: went from 6 to 7

Do you mean 5 went from 9-4

4 went from 6-7?

Thanks for info I'm trying oil pulling I have some major pockets and severe bone loss. Will this help rebuild bone?

I think she is counting how many (9) 5mm pockets she originally had-- and now only has (4) 5mm pockets. And she no longer has any 7mm or 6mm pockets.

(But I don't understand why (6 pockets) that were 4mm would have increased to 7 pockets if the other gum areas were improving.)
