My Grovers Disease is now gone! After reading this website, I've had a cilantro smoothie daily and used zinc oxide 20% to quell the itch. Great improvement in a week. Then my dermatologist gave me injection of Dupixent, bc I also have some eczema. Mild improvement and reversion after injection. Kept up the cilantro and added turmeric 3600 mg a day. Turmeric is good for treating inflammation in the body, my skin felt hot all the time w Grovers.
Within three days, my GD disappeared completely. It's been almost two weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed. Recommend trying turmeric to treat inflammation.
I came down with Grover's disease years ago and was told there is no cure. I tried cortisone creams which did not work. It was unbearable. I was reading a forum about it one day & found that 2 women went on a gluten free diet and it went away for them so I went gluten free and it went away. I have had 2 flare ups over the years & both were after eating licorice which often has gluten in it. The Grovers began to fade as soon as I stopped eating the licorice. So it may be gluten for some people and it's worth a try.
Terri & Veronica, I have read all these "miracle stories" of zinc oxide cream. Thought I had the miracle too when I woke up and it was gone. Problem is, it was NOT gone. It was just merely hidden by the zinc oxide but when you washed it off, there is was again.
I will continue to try but no miracle yet for me.

Diaper Rash Cream
coolness does seem to help the itching.
I have had Grovers for 8 years. It comes and goes. Mine is on my right leg, on the back and inner thigh. I just want to peel my skin off when it is flaring up.
1st of all thx for sharing. Like you I'm in my 60's. I was diagnosed with Grover's 10 years ago. It is all over my back and on about 1/3 of my stomach. So back and front of core truck is 95% of where it appears. The other 5 to 10% of I I have isolated spots. Primarily on the high part of my thighs and a few around my belt line. But never ever on or near my privates nor ever on my face or neck. It's appeared but isolated on the collar bone part closest to my neck. But again never on face or privates by me or anyone I've heard comment. So think you're good there. You said forearms however...I have never had it there. So that was the only unique location comment of yours. I have heard everyone fails with what doctor prescriptions of any kind myself included.
I started the cilantro about 10 days ago. I love the taste and the other benefits (see my very recent post in the cilantro section of this forum.) So far no change. I will continue the cilantro routine forever regardless. Two days ago, I started the zinc oxide cream (16% active ingredient--Zinc oxide). It diaper cream. Covers it up nicely but almost is irritating the papules. So the 48 hour result for me is "not" working. I've heard others have miracles. So that's why I tried it. As I said in my other post, I do plan to comment back on here and let you know how it goes. I would hope you'd do the same. They say we have an "orphan" disease. So don't be a stranger. You and everyone's posts are helpful.
Kind regards, Robert from Chicago.
I was diagnosed with Grovers last September. I'm 67 and have never had any skin issues, I'm in great shape but I was very stressed for months when this Disease hit me.
I've tried all the cortisone creams and they have been useless. I tried Chinese medicine, brewing a prescription of dried herbs and roots from an herbalist who cured my fibroids 20 years ago, but gave up after two months of that. My dermatologist tried antibiotics and Zyrtec, but didn't help. It's progressed from my back to stomach to one leg and two shoulders and forearms. It is really uncomfortable, unsightly, and ruins my quality of life.
My doctor injected me with Dupixent last week and it worked for a day. I'll try another injection in a week. It costs $3300, but my health insurance covers it. Has anyone had Grovers go to their face? Or privates? I'm dreading that. I tried the zinc oxide and that seems to have stopped the itch as of today. Thank you, bloggers who suggested that. And, I made my first cilantro smoothie, which tastes great. I am praying this goes away and never comes back. Has that happened to anyone? Why can't they find a cause and a cure for this awful disease?
How do you use the cilantro?
I was diagnosed with Grover's Disease at 50. Was going through menopause at the time so it took a very long time to get it diagnosed. I was miserable. Mine falls on my lower back and torso.
Interestingly, it went away after 2 months or so and following a very strict Keto diet thought this was why it went away. I do not eat any sugar, gluten, wheat, or processed foods. I am now 56 and after going through an oral chelation therapy with my husband, ended up with this horrible GD rash. I had almost forgotten about it. I feel this is a herx reaction, but regardless, I have it and it has been very uncomfortable.
I am on my 2nd day of cilantro, which I blend with avocado, egg white protein, and ginger in the morning. I have ordered chlorella and will add that when I receive it. Will update on any improvement. I have coming today some collodial silver cream, so I will update on that too. Wishing everyone the best with their GD. What a pain in the butt.....
Also drop the sea salt and hydrogen peroxide which is very drying - who in gods name have you been talking to?
Your mantra is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize - no heat or heat lamps, or hot tubs, or heat pads, or sun - no sun - no sun - no sun - sweating and all these things cause the frigging rash!!!.
You are doing too much!!! Apparently do not have a really good dermatologist either -
Laying in sun is the worst thing you can do!
Heat, sweating, hot tubs, all cause grovers or cause eruptions so stop now!!! Coconut oil is great - have heard that a 20 minute past of turmeric and olive oil - then wash off with cold water is good - I also use a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to i cup cool to cold water several times a day gently slosh on broken out areas..
Find a good dermatologist - do not use prescription drugs unless you absolutely must and then get a prescription from a good - that is g o o d dermatologist and use as directed - if any side effects occur - immediately stop using..
Zinc Oxide for Grover's Rash
I'm a 69 year old female and tried zinc oxide! It's awesome!! I put in on last night and the red areas were gone this morning. This is the first thing that worked for me.
I have also just gotten a new flare up of "Grovers" and is getting worse with my workouts. The doctor prescribed a steroid cream to be used for 2 weeks. Was not seeing much difference. Did some investigating on this website and others and decided to try a different approach. Applied Triple Antibiotic on the spots and covered with Zinc Oxide..in 24 hours already see an improvement. Itching has decreased, spots not red and not as raised. Will also supplement with Vitamin A as I have read this is critical as well.
Will keep all posted over the next week or so of this :).
If you get low on water, it can take 6 months to rehydrate a body . The rehydration process includes the correct balance of all minerals.... so if something here is out of balance the body will produce histamine to let you know about the problem and that might cause itching. If your liver ( try milk thistle) is having problems that will cause lots of itching. If your stomach is out of whack it will not absorb your minerals. Could be those invisible bugs biting you....mint might get rid of them, I have mint in pots by both doors, repels flies, mice, mosquitos, ect. Oye. I have been going down these rabbit trails for years.
I'm glad for your relief with 4000 iu's of D3, but I've taken 10,000 iu's of D3 oil gels & 4,000 iu's of powdered capsule for at least a year, and my neck, front & back, my entire back, my sides, around to my stomach have been itching me 24/7 for over a month. I even tried liquid D3 that someone suggested to apply topically, with no relief at all. HELP!
Food Allergy Elimination
How do I get one of these food allergy tests?
I've had grover's for several years. Compared to the cases described here, mine was milder than most. My lesions were mostly on the front of my torso, and though they would itch sometimes, not to the point of keeping me awake, and never all at one time. Hydrocortisone cream subdued them for a few days, but never eliminated them.
I have been taking 2000 IUs of Vitamin D3 for over a month now, and the lesions are 99% gone. I am continuing to take D3, but now I am focused on fading the little scars left behind from the lesions. For this I am using Jason's vitamin E 25000 IUs once or twice daily. I'll report back if see any definitive improvement.
Thanks again to Timothy from London (2014), for posting his success with vitamin D3!
Homeopathy - Natrum Muriaticum 30c
I suffered through a major first Grovers flare up right before Covid-19 lockdown and when I was finally able to see a doctor in person and had a biopsy taken I was diagnosed with Grover Disease. I am 38 and female.
I know we are all so different so one cure may work for one but not the other but I have found Homeopathy for me has been my saviour. I have a bottle of Homeopathy Natrum Muriaticum 30c tablets with me at all times. I take the Chronic dose three times daily but if I have a flare up (from getting hot and thus sweating) I take the Acute dose (see bottle for full instructions)
I have found that Grovers flare-ups happen when I get hot and sweat forms on my skin and then dries, I feel a strange stingy feeling on my skin when sweat is drying and a flare-up is happening. I can still exercise and get hot etc but I always make sure I shower as soon as possible before the sweat dries on my skin. if I can't get to a shower and the sweat dries on my skin I will have a flare-up.
Ice is also a good way to catch a flare-up and stop it from going from a mild flare-up to a major one. if you catch a flare-up at the early stages it will be gone within hours or max a few days.
I agree with Christine that vitamin D is important in helping with the disease and flare-ups.
Cold Showers or Ice Packs or Ice Rollers for skin work really well for Grover's Disease.
If you sweat and don't have a shower straightaway you will feel a slight crawling stingy feeling on the skin, this is a warning sign that your skin is going to break out.
I've found that you can exercise and get hot and sweat as much as you want but you must not let the sweat dry on your skin, wash it off as soon as you can.
Hi Rob, my hubby has been suffering with Grover's for several years now. Last year his arms were so bad and inflamed (that could have been a different skin complaint) that we asked the GP if he could have full blood tests to determine the CAUSE. Following the blood tests, he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma!! Probably had it for years. Since March this year he has been taking Curcumin C3 with Bioperine 8g daily for the MM but sadly it has not helped his Grover's. I'm sorry to disappoint although it may help you, it's a great supplement.
We are now going to try Magnesium, (mentioned by Anna); Reishi + Shiitake mushroom extract (mentioned by Francesco); and Molybdenum (mentioned by Jerry). All worth a try IMHO.
Zinc Oxide 1000% definitely works. I am a 50 year old female and had Grovers rash on chest and stomach for about 6 months. I tried so many things (tea tree, antispectic cream, prescription cream) and nothing made any difference. After reading this page I tried zinc oxide and within 24 hours it is 90% better. Thanks to all who shared this info.
You are so welcome! I want to shout if from the rooftops!
I have suffered from Grover's Disease on and off for years. I have recently found a remedy that stops it in it's tracks. ZINC OXIDE. I used the cream for diaper rash, and it immediately stopped the itch and was drastically improved by the next morning and gone within a couple of days. I cannot understand how the medical field does not know this. Please try it and I pray for you that it works as well!
I am a 70-year-old man.
I am interested in sport: tennis, golf, biking, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing.
Two years ago I got Grover's disease.
The whole body was a lot of itchy Grover's disease. I used a lot of hydrocortis and other oils. These were not helpful.
I stopped eating whole wheat. All the rash Grover's disease lost within two weeks. I tried twice to eat wheat, Grover's disease immediately came back. Now it's good to be, not Graves's disease.
I am happy when I found Grover's disease causes.
Now I live a happy athlete's life, not Grover's disease, not wheat.
Grover's Disease Triggers
PLEASE see BEN's post. I have tried MANY prescriptions with medical directions, non helped. My Cilantro smoothie WORKS. Please TRY.
Diaper Rash Cream
Thank you very much for the butt paste suggestion! I have had the red bumps of Grover's for at least a year. Told by dermatologist really nothing I could do about it, but it may go away on its own. Steroid cream, no effect. Just bought a $60 tube of Terrasil as I thought it was worth a shot. Pool season is here I did not want to show off this rash or always wear a shirt. Plus, just the exposure to chlorine and saltwater both seem to amplify the condition like sweating does. Was actually told by dermatologist just to avoid any activity that would cause sweating. I read this post, went to Walmart and bought the $8 tube of butt paste. I am so happy to report one application wiped it out by almost 90%! Two days later, two applications per day and it is almost completely gone! No redness, can feel a few spots that are raised, but no discoloration or itching! I would not believe it if it had not happened to me. Returning the Terrasil for a refund. Think I will also start taking some oregano oil as a precaution. I cannot thank you enough!
I have found a near miracle to get relief from the intense itch of Grover's Disease. It is Peppermint essential oil. I mix it with Nivea lotion or Coconut Oil. You can adjust the portion to your own liking. I put about 1 1/2 tablespoonfuls to about 4-5 drops of oil in my hand, mix it up and apply. I get about 10-12 hours of relief from the itch plus it helps with keeping the skin moist and healing. I'm grateful!!!!!
Hi I'm a 55 year old female, diagnosed with Grover's rash 10 years ago. I have times when it flares up very badly but mostly it's just lurking around mainly on my chest and stomach. I juice every day and recently added large amounts of coriander to my green juices. The rash has just about disappeared. If anyone else would like to try it, it's worth a shot.
Diaper Rash Cream
Try Triple Paste medicated ointment for diaper rash. It works great
I've started Vitamin A today. How are you doing with it?
I am a female who suffered with this itchy rash for 2 years before being diagnosed with Grover's Disease (aka Dermatitis of Imminoseques) and in rare instances could lead to a bullous skin condition for which I was tested. The blood test to ruled out the gene (16034- Bullous Pemphigoid (BP 180) Antiobody, which brought tremendous relief.
This natural way that is being discussed on this site seems the better approach than all the drugs prescribed which haven't worked well at the risk of side effects and possible damage to the liver. Among them, as prescribed by Dermatologists, (which have failed) are: A script (nightly) called Hydroxyzine HCL 25 mg provides temporary relief, downside is some brief dizziness upon waking. In conjunction, taken several 10 day predinzone (10 mg at 40 mg per day sliding down to 10mg). I've used several steroid topical prescription creams and over the counter anti itch creams with aloe. I uses Cerave products and soaps. Use hypoallergenic detergents, wear natural cotton clothing, no metals on jeans, take vitamins to ensure basic health, etc. Recently, I've been offered a long course of powerful drugs called metrotrexate (weekly) or mycophenolate (daily) which are used in cancer patients and organ recipient patients which is beyond the pale had I had the gene and whihc I would have refused even if I had the gene.
Prefer taking the Natural Way:
To keep my skin in PH balance. I found a body wash sold in CVS which is 100% soap & alkali-free and PH - 5.5. I use coconut cream to moisturize, strong zinc skin cream and intend to detox with Cilantro (after reading the success) from other sufferers of Grover's Disease for which I am grateful. Thank you.
Thank you Judy...have a blessed Sunday!!
I just bought it from GNC. I started taking 50000 and went up to 50000 3x a day. I would check with your dr first since high doses aren't safe for very long but I'm not planning on staying on this more than a few weeks.
Hi Judith: Can you please tell me the name of the vitamin A that you used. My daughter suffers from this horrible issue and nothing seems to be working. I read your post and suddenly feels hopeful again. Thank you so much.
I was diagnosed with Grover's after a 3 month on and off rash all over my body would never go away and I finally got a biopsy. It was insane, water only made it worse, every article of clothing exacerbated it, I had very little itching just burning. Diaper rash cream and zinc powder kept it dry but didn't stop new outbreaks. I tried vitamin d, steroid creams eating clean, nothing worked. I felt depressed and hopeless. Well after researching the very few Grover's sites, I saw that vitamin A helped a lot of folks, so I tried high doses. I'm in it a week and I'm amazed at how all my body is practically clear except my back. My last resort was accutane but I'm going to try sticking with the a before I start the script which is just a much stronger version of A. I hope this helps someone suffering from this awful condition.
I must say thank you to all the women who are putting their information and treatment ideas out there. It is nice to see that women, other than myself, are suffering with the same thing I am...especially since it's considered a "man's disease."
I appreciate everything all of you are suggesting.
Is it still working? Please update.
I was just diagnosed with Grover's Disease after a skin biopsy at a new Derm's office. I have been struggling with this for the past 3 years on and off but it is consistently on my trunk each month. I'll have a couple days of very few red bumps, then back to them completely overwhelming my stomach and back. Thank you so much for your post. I hope this works for me as it did for you. It's so embarrassing living with this, although it could be worse...and I take nothing for granted. I haven't been able to pinpoint what triggers it, however I am an avid recreational athlete and work out daily so I'm assuming the sweating is the culprit. However I will not forgo taking care of my body for this disease. Let's hope all the ideas I'm receiving from this website are the end all!
I tried the diaper rash cream last night, and the rash is almost gone!!! Thank you so much for sharing this information Sherry.
Replace Metal Fillings
I know you posted a while back. And sadly, I wish what the comment about metal fillings was true. I've held a dental license for over 20 years and there is NO proof that the removal of dental fillings does any help in this area, or really and any area. If it did, I would be the first to shout it from the roof tops. I wish my fiancée's cure to Grover's disease was this simple. That means that I (I.E.- ME AND MY CLOSE COLLEAGUES) could and would, all afflicted tomorrow. However he has NO metal fillings nor metal joints. This is nothing more that hocus pocus and wishful feelings..
As a qualified nutritionist, Yes I believe curcumin to be a very effective anti inflammatory and could help in Grovers disease. But there needs to be a 'multi pronged' approach to healing it, by both addressing one's inner health condition and in turn the skin's condition. Steroids are not the way to recover. A simple incredible possible remedy is eating fresh coriander leaves (and the roots). Half to One bunch a day for 3 days to see results. Eat it as a salad with olive oil and apple cider vinegar, pepper and a little sea salt. The folate acid and bioflavonoids plus many minerals in it help 'chelate' metals and toxins in one's system and aid the liver in excreting it. Also every day, 1-2 probiotic tablets and yogurt if possible, 1x D3,1000mg Vitamin C and zinc.1 Nettle tea very good for the blood PH & 1 Chamomile tea per day.Cooked Oats or soaked muesli with grated apple and cinnamon soothes and nourishes one's system (unless celiac) On the itch and lesions, gently apply coconut oil (with clean hands! ), or 1 drop oregano oil in a little coconut oil. Or put an oat based lotion or better still a pultase, on all of the affected area. - make by putting raw oats in a clean stocking or muslin and tying off. Dampen in warm water and apply the oat milk. Very soothing. Also many sufferers say they've had great relief from diaper cream if you're in a rush! . A Paleo diet is the most effective as it reduces acidity and blood sugar, otherwise avoid all processed carbs, fried and sweet food at least for a little while to help it clear up. Oh and yes 1st thing in the morning after cleaning teeth, have half a lemon in a mug or cup of hot water. Or instead 2 tsp apple cider vinegar in hot water. Rinse out mouth with water after ( for teeth) Ok.... in good faith and fingers crossed this will work!! Xxx
I was diagnosed with grover's disease in January of this year. The symptoms began with very itchy feet at night and the progressed to outbreaks on back, chest, stomach, arms and legs. At one point, my arms became totally inflamed and looked like lizard skin. This is a horrible condition and my heart goes out to all of you that are enduring this. I have been to four doctors, two of which are dermatologists. The family physicians had never heard of it, so no help there. The dermatologists had absolutely no real advice to give, other than topical steroids, which don't really help unless you could bathe in the stuff.
The posts and words of advice on this forum have been the only relief and help I have had, so thank you everyone. I want to post what has helped me. To me this seems very inflammatory. I have found that ibuprofen helps alot. If you space it out as needed and throughout the day, it can bring relief. Also another thing that I haven't seen posted too much is baking soda baths. About 1/2 to 1 cup in the tub and soak 30 minutes helps with the itching and it is not toxic.
At night I take an antihistamine like Benadryl which helps with the itching and for sleeping. For diet, I have added vitamin D and Omega 3 supplements daily, along vitamin C. I drink the juice of a lemon (diluted in water) and also cilantro a few times a week. One dermatologist told me not to exercise (?) but that sounded so depressing. I try to walk every day for a few miles. No one knows if this is an immune disorder, but I believe that staying as heathy as possible has to help. I pray for you all, that you all will back to health and well again very soon.
Please look under the “Grover's Disease” section here on Earth Clinic (just click on the title of your message) and you will see people who say that eating cilantro cures Grover's Disease. If you can get some cilantro, try eating a handful for a week, and see if it doesn't help you. Best wishes!
I think it's the yeast in the beer...bread aggravates it also, no wheat or yeast, it makes it worse
Hi guys, I was diagnosed with GH a month ago, sweating makes it worse, Dr says its in my blood from family, my uncles also have it, I saw eating less bread and focussing on water and fresh vegs actually helps me cope, but I'm a female in menopause, imagine heat with GH, it itches like crazy in my face, the ointment I have helps but very expensive, I was with 100 % glycerine soap only...it much better, u can try Preparation H, it does help a little bit, coconut oil makes me its more, make-up makes it worse for me...not an easy way of life, wanting to scratch your face off...
