I had an acute diverticulitis in 2004 and was admitted to ICU for 3 days while teaching at Baldwin Wallace College in a Summer music camp 2 hours away from home. I could have died if a colleague didn't find me fainted with shock from losing so much blood (5 bags of blood transfusion) in ladies restroom.

I was lucky the doctor only cut many polyps along my colon and didn't perform surgery on me, but seriously warned me if this happens again, he would cut my colon out!! Fearfully I came home and watch my fiber intake on a daily basis. Make sure we all take sufficient fiber everyday, but watch the liquid intake as well to prevent the fiber from getting stuck in your intestines! Fiber, fiber, tasteless fiber, you are my lifesaver!!

We had very excellent results after just the first dose of Aloe era juice and papaya pills for my husband's diverticulosis/diverticulitis. Much quicker than antibiotics. He looks and feels good as new and has added this to his prevention regimen. Love finding this website!

I found this site very helpful. Had divert a year ago and did the standard antibiotics. Now I make sure I use GSE if any first signs appear, also heaping tbsp of psyllium every day, if I remember! Regardng the theory of small seeds affecting the bowel, at least two good doctors in omaha tell me its an old, unproven idea, searching I found comfirmation on webmd and the mayo clinic site that there is no proof that seeds affect.. However, one should keep track of what you eat and determine what affects you. Maybe you will or are bothered by seeds of some sort. you know best how your body reacts to food.

Have had diverticulitus for years... Just didn't know what it was! Often getting "that pain in the left side", etc. The last couple of year on and off, waking up around 2:30 am with the pain and not being able to sleep again till 6:00. Did several cleanses which would clear out the colon; that helped temporarily; of course stayed away from nuts, seeds, etc. Also took aloe gel (whole leaf, inner filet, organic). It really didn't seem to help. But after reading this post decided to try aloe capsules a friend had used with success. I've only used them for 2 days now but, Wow! I'm very happy with the results... My pain is entirely gone! V Vegetarain

Monica... You're getting GSE (grapefruit seed extract) mixed up with grapeseed oil. Grapeseed oil is for cooking. Grapefruit seed extract can be purchased at any health food store or natural foods market in either capsules or in liquid drop form. The common brand I use is Nutrabiotic.

In the past I've been troubled with Diverticulitis to the point I had to take anitbiotics. This would happen about every 3 to 4 months. I started taking Grapefruit Seed Extract when I'd feel an attack coming on. I would take 12 drops in a glass of water 4 times a day. After about 4 days the pain would subside. Then after several months I would have another attack and do the same. I finally got smart, I take 12 drops (GSE) in a glass of water each and every night with out fail. I am now free from the attacks and when I do feel like an attack is coming on I do the 12 drops (GSE) twice a day and soon go back to just once a day. I hope this helps others that are bothered with this condition, it has made a big difference in my life. I don't like to take antibotics. I have just found this web site and am really interested in reading about all the different cures and remedies. I'm going to try several of those mentioned.

Diatomaceous Earth

I initially bought diatomaceous earth as a pest control on my raspberries. So I then looked at what else I could use it for. I have diverticulitis and I've been taking one level teaspoon on my cereal every day for years now and have had no further trouble. It is tasteless.

Do you use it everyday for preventative measures? I had a diverticulitis attack about 3 years ago, and I think I'm having another one. I used to use the grape seed extract everyday but I haven't for about a year, I think it really did keep the diverticulitis at bay. I just went and bought some more, hopefully I can get through this without going to the ER.

GSE and N-A-G

Also, my GSE drops are the same brand as your pills which I also have but they are only 125mg, are you sure yours are 250mg or do you mean you take 2 pills to equal 250mg so you take 500mg a day?

THANK YOU Pay it Forward for that distinction between the two strengths of GSE. It will be a great help to others too when deciding what dose to take. Much appreciated!

Kefir

My brother suffers from diverticulitis and has been helped by drinking homemade kefir morning and night on empty stomach, and by eliminating all grains and flours from his diet. He has also eliminated sugars and the only sweet he eats is fruit. The kefir helps because it is full of diverse anti inflammatory good bacteria, probiotics. I know this is (particularly) helpful because I make the kefir, and due to my own illness was unable to make for a week. My brother, unable to drink the kefir, ended up in hospital for two weeks. Yes I felt absolutely terrible, but on the plus side we were all able to see how beneficial it was for him. I would aim for kefir, but other probiotic foods are organic (unpasteurised) miso paste, tempeh, sauerkraut, kombucha, natto.

Well had a pain. Where? And are you a male or female? I ask because I'm the early 80s I had an abdominal pain so intense while driving I could not even press the brake pad Al let alone shift it finally eased. Had similar pains but not nearly as intense. Sil had a pamphlet on scar tissue from C-section from both children and the pamphlet and the back half was on endometriosis. When I read that pamphlet I had an aha moment went straight to dr handed him the pamphlet told him “This is what I have” he laughed and said” You'll be wasting my time and you're money but ok. After the surgery what waking up in or he told me how sorry he was to of doubted me because you were wrapped up in it even one of my tubes was wrapped up in it.

20 years later had a ruptured tubal pregnancy, the same tube that had been tied up in it. Anyway I didn't have any of the symptoms I had 20 years earlier but he found more, not a lot but more and removed that. 10 years ago had total hysterectomy and didn't say anything about finding any more.

Guys I found a cure but I stopped it because everyone's different. it's called the keto diet but I started seeing blurry n I freak out alot so I stopped but I had lasik surgery about 3 or 2 years ago so if something changes in my body I don't understand I freak out. my worst fear is to go blind so I stopped it but I had no symptoms.

75% fat 20% protein &5% carbs but u have to eat alot of vegetables so I add like 70 % veggies and alot of animal fat only with protein about 10% I know the percentage is not correct but that's what worked for me but I swear it helped. Now to find out whats going on with my eyes I'll see. Good luck guys

Re: Diverticulitis

What is an acid alkaline diet? Also I have found collagen to be very soothing. It isn't a complete treatment but one of the things in my arsenal. Digestive enzymes before eating is very important.

Then why not wash before you handle your penis, seems to make sense to wash before instead of after.

When push comes to shove, one can try a more expensive option for ulcers when lower cost options don't work. It cured my diverticulitis within two months. I used Aloe Muciliginous Polysaccharrides. It did cost me $126 at full dose per month at 9 capsules per day. I was able to cut down to 2 capsules per day after 2 months. How fast it works depends on severity of ulcers. Some people can have results in a week. Once you get better, you can cut down your dosage.

You should be on a high quality pro biotic. Probiotics has also cured this condition. I assume you have tried that.

I have had good luck with taking sea salt in hot water at the first sign of diverticulitis. If it doesn't help the first time I take it again. I started with it one night and took the sea salt and had to take it a second time and woke up in the morning with no pain. I usually take about 1/2 t of sea salt to a cup of water.

Noticed you had "Better but not cured" label. You may need a stronger version of aloe vera. Try the AMP tablet version.

Wendy: I would begin treatment on the diverticuli and you might also see improvements on the uterus as there may be a correlation here. One thing that both have in common is inflammation. Here is the E. C. page for https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/diverticulitis.html.

Turmeric, Aloe Vera, and Fish or Flax Oil seems most beneficial as you will find reading others cases.

Let us know how your doing.

Hi Wendy--I would just like to add that ginger also reduces inflammation and I have read that it kills salmonella. I use both of these along with my sea salt on vegetables and eggs. It is also reported that ginger contains an antidepressant ingredient.

After a flare up of diverticulitis symptoms, I am convinced the aloe vera juice was the greatest factor in significantly reducing my symptoms within 24 hrs. I also took papaya enzyme, grape seed extract, and probiotic complex. Was hospitalized 2 years ago, and do not want to go that route again. Will start doing the fiber again as prescribed. There is a " gummy bear" like chewable on the market now that does not require that you have to drink water with it.

After visiting this site after getting a flare up of diverticulitis symptoms 2 years after being hospitalized, I started a regime gleaned from the comments here. I used a combination of aloe Vera juice, papaya enzymes, grape seed extract, and probiotic complex. I'm sold, within 24 hrs all symptoms were markedly reduced. I am tempted to say completely, will keep this up , and definitely make the aloe Vera juice aan ongoing part of my diet.

I have had two flare ups of diverticulitis. After the second one, I was so afraid I was going to get cancer. I started taking Metamucil. The directions say to take it three times a day. I have been doing this and have had no problems like before.
