[SIDE EFFECTS] 10/26/2007: Karen from Bozeman, USA writes: "Have read with interest the articles on ACV and decided to try it. 3 days later and I have a mouth full of canker sores. Having good success healing them with alum, the pickling spice. No pain w/ application, but what did I do wrong? I'd like to continue with ACV as it has so many health benefits but can't live with mouth sores. Now what?"

[SIDE EFFECTS] 10/09/2007: Leslie from Boston, MA writes: "I was using ACV 2 tbsp in water 4 x day for 3 mon straight. Because of really bad vaginal itching I thought I should take a break. I stopped over the weekend, today is Tuesday, and my skin itches, I have pink eye, sore throat, sore neck, face breakouts--coincidence???? Any feedback?"
06/18/2008: Sarah from Tampa, FL replies: "I think you are using the acv too much. 4 x a day is a little excessive, you prob broke out in all your "sickness" because your body is still detoxing. Maybe trying 1 or 2 times a day at 1 or 2 tsps each time. Remember when you do ANY DETOX you will get WORSE before you get better. But also check to see if you have an allergy to acv."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/28/2007: Esther from Concord, CA writes: "I am new to the ACV remedy. I want to take the ACV to lose 20 pounds. About 2 months ago, I started taking estrogen & progesterone. I have gained over 6 pounds in the mid-section. I stopped taking the hormones now. I am 52 years old. I have been taking ACV 3X/day, 2T ACV + 1/4t BS in 8 oz water for about 10 days. I take it before breakfast, after lunch & after dinner. I haven't lost any weight yet. But my blood pressure has gone up quite a bit from 113/72 (with BP medication) to 142/82 and starts getting headaches. Has anyone have the similar problem with ACV? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your responds."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/23/2007: Paul from Torrington, CT writes: "ACV gives me heart burn the instant I drink it! Isnt it a aid in the reduction of heart burn and reflux? Help! Heart burning in CT"
EC: Some brands of ACV are more acidic than others, even though they state 5% acidity on the bottle...
08/04/2008: T from Phoenix, AZ replies: "Heartburn can be caused by both a lack of OR or an excess of acid in the stomach. Using the ACV has lead to the latter. Add baking soda to the ACV before drinking it to lower the acidity, and it should not cause heartburn."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/18/2007: Robin from Dallas, Texas writes: "I feel I sleep better when taking ACV and since I have a problem with high blood pressure it is helpful in that regard also. I do have a problem though, whenever I take it for awhile, like 3 or 4 days I get constipated. Do you know why? Lately I have been taking it by itself, I don't like it with juice or water, however, I could go back to taking it that way."
03/25/2009: Erika from Libertyville, Illinois replies: "Responding to the man who said he took apple cider undiluted. Please do not take it that way - the strength can cause damage to one's esophagus. Always dilute it with apple juice (my favorite taste) or water or some other juice. Thanks for reading"
03/25/2009: Erika from Libertyville, Illinois writes: "To Robin from Dallas I apologize - when I responded to your post, for some reason I did not pay attention to your name and thought a man was writing the comment and therefore when I sent a reply to your statement about taking apple cider vinegar on an empty stomach I referred to you as the man who...etc I sincerely apologize Robin for not looking more closely at your name....please do not take the vinegar on an empty stomach as it can damage your esophagus. Thanks for reading and good luck with the vinegar

03/26/2009: Laurie Holden from Wolverine, Michigan replies: "Robin from Dallas,
To get rid of constipation drink one full glass of warm water first thing every morning, this gets things moving & hydrates the system. To speed things up, drink your first glass of warm water with 1 teaspoon of sea salt, you will go. Good luck.

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/11/2007: Scott from Paradise, California writes: "Hi. I am a new user of ACV and am very pleased and surprised at the way it is helped me to feel better. I know that I have always struggled with candidiasis, but never got the complete relief from it using other remedies. The ACV has made an incredible difference in how I feel. I have also experienced the other benefits of increased energy, decreased anxiety, better sleep. However, there is one concern I have that I hope someone can help me with. Sometimes when I take the ACV it seems to upset my stomach. Help! I really value this remedy, but I'm concerned about stomach upset. Thanks."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 08/25/2009: Golditoo from Rockport, Mass., Usa writes: "I have posted on this subject before and am eager to hear from others who have encountered this situation: Since I have been taking apple cider vinegar (and 1/4 tsp baking soda), I have been having a great problem with insomnia, of the restless leg variety. Could it be that the increased metabolism is affecting my thyroid meds? I have had hypothyroidism for decades. This is a very troubling problem. I find myself at 4 a.m. taking sleeping pills just to SLEEP! Should I cut my thyroid meds in half?
I would appreciate any comments from those who have experienced this."
08/25/2009: Sara from The Beach, Canada replies: "get your levels checked before you change your meds. i had sleep problems too, but i made sure i drank the mixture no later than 2pm every day and after a few days i noticed a difference. i too have thyroid issues and my levels have not changed from this drink."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 02/27/2009: Bibi from Nashville, TN writes: "Removal of Toxins - toxic overload?
My concern is about removal of toxins and an overloaded burden to my kidneys. Although my last kidney function test was normal (because of lupus, I am concerned), after taking ACV and BS for a week, I started having pain in my mid-to-lower back on either side of my spine when awaking in the morning. My blood pressure went up, but after reading that sodium bicarbonate (BS) does not cause high blood pressure, I'm wondering if it was an overload of toxins being removed. I know ACV/BS should be five days on / two days off. Has anyone tried one day on / one day off? Would that be too little to be effective?
I have SLE/RA/diabetes mellitus - and, of course, metabolic acidosis. I'm planning on using the borax treatment twice a week, too. I've read about the herx effect for lupus, so I'm expecting that. Just wanting to get feedback on how to avoid overloading my system with toxin removal, especially after reading the Mycoplasma Fermentans page (questions) about cellular debris. Thanks for your feedback."
03/01/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Bibi:
A lupus issue with kidney problems and diabetes on top of that, along with high blood pressure isn't toxin's being removed too much. Kidneys needs a balance of sodium to potassium ratio and the pH must be monitored. The problem therefore appears not to be the kidney's detox effect, I rarely encounter that, but that the kidneys simply isn't functioning efficiently from high blood sugar, low potassium, magnesium and vitamin B complex. The kidneys need nutrients too. The other issue is if the blood pressure did go up after taking apple cider vinegar with baking soda. Some modification may require to reduce this pressure and instead 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of potassium citrate (or potassium bicarbonate) in 1/2 glass of water should quickly aleviate it. The consistency of baking soda or the use of baking soda and apple cider vinegar in the use against lupus, isn't so consistent without the use of borax remedy in addition. In fact diabetes and low potassium goes hand in hand. As a result the need to control blood sugar and the taking of potassium is a required remedy for those with a diabetic lupus condition.
It should be noted that kidney is especially sensitive to low potassium, while it is true that a baking soda won't lower a potassium level, a presently low potassium and high blood sugar wouldn't allow the remedy to work either.
In which case, if there is a problem, the standard remedy for lupus is not being used, which is why there is problem. A standard lupus remedy (without a diabetic condition) (the very basic) requires at least 1/2 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day, plus 1/4 teaspoon (for most men anyway) of borax dissolved in one liter of drinking water. The addition of diabetes condition requires the addition of both potassium, chromium, magnesium and lecithin. The riding of toxins we tend to think of is kidney. However, kidney is just only part of the mechanism of removal, however the bulk removal is done through a 20 plus foot long intestines. So if intestines isn't functioning, causing constipation, it will cause undue pressure to the kidney to work hard, causing kidney overload. Therefore the addition of 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon of potassium citrate (technical name tripotassium citrate) or potassium bicarbonate to the baking soda, would reduce both the kidney overload and the constipation of the intestines. The lupus is also supersensitive to accidity as well as steaks and meats, that has to be reduced by a large margin. The lecithin 1 tablespoon before meal is required to clear the liver of congestion, which is common for people with lupus and a liver congestion can create a condition of high blood pressure. As to how an apple cider vinegar would have cause a high blood pressure. That comes from the fact that the body is sensitive to acidic pH, even a slight acidity would create problems for a lupus and diabetes, and hence apple cider vinegar is not the remedy I used for lupus as a result. So simply a basic lupus remedy would do, but if diabetes is present here is the following remedy in addition to the basic remedy:
1. 1 tablespoon of granulated lecithin before meals
2. 1500 mcg of Chromium (most chromium works)
3. 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate or tirpotassium citrate twice a day dissolved along with 1/2 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate. Potassium is a required one for diabetes, and high blood pressure.
4. 500 mg of magnesium citrate (or magnesium chloride)
5. Vitamin B complex, in form of B50 at least once or twice a week.
It should be noted that the above is for diabetes and blood pressure issues, which goes hand in hand to the kidney's health. No apple cider vinegar should generally be used at least for the first 3 or 4 weeks is my own observations for many people. This is because some people will have low bicarbonates to begin with and it needs at least 2 weeks to replenish the bicarbonate before starting on with any ACV with baking soda.
I have also further modified the lupus remedy to work better, one of the newer remedy that needs adding is the bloodroot tincture. However, the bloodroot tincture I prefer, I do not like the use of any methanol alcohol, where the common names listed is "grain alcohol". The safest alcohol is an ethyl alcohol or ethanol, which is the same alcohol found in vodka, beer in general. A conservative dose that's needed for a bloodroot to digest the pathogens responsible for the lupus is 3 or 4 drops taken at 3 or 4 times a day in 1/2 glass of water. It can be mixed, in a baking soda and potassium mixture, so that these don't have to be too inconvenient when taken separately.
Whichever the case the bare minimum for a lupus (with a diabetes) remedy are baking soda, borax and potassium WITHOUT the use of apple cider vinegar. Watch what you eat, as this is often the cause to a high blood pressure, such as aspartame, meats, fried food, common table salt (using sea salt is a better substitute). A kidney pain would generally be reduced for this condition if apple cider vinegar are removed, and potassium is added, almost immediately in most cases, assuming the body is already low in potassium electrolytes to begin with.
Ted
P.S. A colloidal silver may help certain lupus and the dose is about 1 teaspoon 4 times a day."
03/02/2009: Bibi from Nashville, TN replies: "Hi Ted. If I am taking the blackstrap molasses recipe (iced molasses - as found on the remedies page under blackstrap molasses), which contributes quite a bit of potassium & some magnesium, should I alter your recommendation on this post? If so, how? I started taking the iced molasses recipe a few days ago and feel improvement, plus sugar cravings have significantly dimished.
I also read another one of your posts about taking vitamin B1 and D4 to lower blood sugar. Would this be advisable in this situation (considering the lupus, etc). I'm surprised that after nine years of hyperglycemia my kidneys are still testing normal.
I know you mention constipation, but my problem is usually the opposite. I'm overweight and have symptoms of both hypo (extreme cold, dry skin, hair loss, fatigue) & hyper (frequent BM) thyroid issues. My maternal grandmother had parathyroid disease. One doctor once told me I had a thyroid issue, but other doctors said he was crazy, that there was no thyroid problem. Aren't autoimmune disorders usually caused by thyroid disorders?
I really appreciate your time, advice, knowledge, & understanding. Thank you."
03/03/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "There's not enough potassium, magnesium, or manganese in the Blackstrap mollasses if we consider the dose I have posted. Here is the nutrient listing for the blackstrap mollasses:Calcium (Ca) content (mg per 100g) 860
Copper (Cu) content (mg per 100g) 2.04
Iron (Fe) content (mg per 100g) 17.5
Magnesium (Mg) content (mg per 100g) 215
Manganese (Mn) content (mg per 100g) 2.61
Phosphorus (P) content (mg per 100g) 40
Potassium (K) content (mg per 100g) 2492
Selenium (Se) content (µ per 100g) 17.8
Sodium (Na) content (mg per 100g) 55
Zinc (Zn) content (mg per 100g) 1Consider average dose for a blackstrap mollasses, which is 2 tablespoons, this is equivalent to 28.47 grams or 14.235 grams per tablespoon.
So to get 500 mg to 1000 mg. of magnesium, let's assume the low side a minimum of 500 mg. I prefer 1000 mg on some ocassion. But anyway, in a 100 grams of molasses, I will get only 215 mg. This means I have to consume 500/215 x 100 = 232.55 grams of mollasses, which is roughly eating a half pound of mollasses a day (0.511 pound). On many ocassions I find myself sick and needed 1000 mg of magnesium, so this works out for me to consume 1 pound of molasses a day. This wouldn't make much economical sense. I may in fact get sick from just consuming that amount a day. Then there is the other problems that I don't need: calcium. which tends to disturb kidney function.
Under present medical diagnostic technology it's not that precise. For any cell to live in a hyperglycemia condition, including the kidney under a tissue culture condition, it can be directly observe that these kidney cells won't be healthy if we compared against an optimal condition. It's always about the biological terrain or fluids in which the cells thrive under. As to the issue of an abnormal thyroid caused by a "thyroid disorder" sounds more like musical chairs. It's not the cause. The fact is a glandular system is destroyed by either a virus, fungus bacteria, radiation (such as xrays), or even a depleted uranium exposure. This can lead to a known cause. Autoimmunity I have observe a lot of people have fungus exposure. In veterinary medicine an autopsy of a horse with either a hypo or hyper were found to have a presence of fungus. So if the fungus were no longer damaging the thyroid, a hypothyroid or hyperthyroid would not happen. That's why hydrogen peroxide has work on many ocassion of a thyroid condition by just clearing the blood of pathogens. A hyperglycemia blood would have teems of pathogen presence since sugar is the required nutrient for growing these harmful pathogens.I still believe chromium and lecithin did reduce blood sugar on many ocassions, along with green tea (from it's diuretic action).
I am sure I haven't address all the issues, but this is the best information that I could come up with.
Ted"

[WARNING!] 01/06/2009: Elaine from Chicago, IL writes: "I added Baking Soda to my ACV treatment and had many of the side effects others mention on this site. Baking Soda lowers Vitamin C levels and this can lead to symptoms of scurvy. I had to do a lot of research to find this out. I woke up with a purple spot/bruise on my leg and that convinced me, as I had not bumped into anything to bruise myself. The purple bruise looking spot is a sign of scurvy. Luckily, it was recommened to me to take Vitamin C for Constipation. I was sooo sick (my asthma was out of control) last night and the night before. I did not know that Vitamin C actually helps Astmatics.
I took 6 mgs of Vitamin C last night in error. I picked up the wrong size of measuring spoon!!..luckily! I had been up the prior two nights coughing up mucus, but last night I slept through the night. I couldn't figure it out since I needed to take bendryl the other nights just to not choke on the mucus. It appears that the 6 mg of Vitamin C did it's job to replenish my Vitamin C and to help with my asthma.
I woke up with the usual morning junk to cough up and spit out. I took 1000 mg of vitamin C and it stopped this problem dead in it's tracks. People need to read about what vitamin C does, especially for people with Asthma and food allergies. Also, the baking soda should NOT be recommended on this site.
It depletes the Vitamin C. If someone is already low in Vitamin C it can cause Survy Symptoms as it did in me.
I love this site, but I think promoting Baking Soda that depletes Vitamin C is wrong. Also, I love Apple Cider Vinegar and it is promoted here as the top natural relief, but I never hear any talk of vitamin C. It works wonders for Asthma, Hay fever and a load of Respiratory illnesses and other illnesses."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 05/31/2008: Sue from Choctaw, Oklahoma writes: "To all, I have use ACV for several months now and have been able to go off all blood pressure medication. I started to use ACV for Gerd (Acid reflex) blood pressure was 150/90 down to 112/60 in two months. Started to use baking soda in ACV and started to have several joint and leg pain. Stopped baking soda, leg pain is better. Forget baking soda - it will cause joint pain in some people so be very careful of it.
ACV will also cause anxiety in some people if used to often. Changes the PH of the body. I have to be careful not to do over one to two teaspoons at a time. Has anyone taken the tablets and do they work ? I also am a R.N. for 22 years and so sick of medication that D.R. put out like candy always looking for alter cures for problem. Most medication is short time cure to more medication."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 04/24/2008: tracey from chiefland, florida writes: "I started the acv w/water by itself after reading from the side effects page that acv and baking soda had caused someone bv. After a few day I decided if I used just a small pinch (just to neutralize the acv a tad) surley wouldn't cause any side effects. So after the fifth or sixth day I didn't get bv but ended up with a uti. Was wondering if this is from the bs or the acv or the combo. I would like to continue the acv for all the other benefits it gives. Lemons have become expensive so I'd prefer a different way to take the acv. Is it necessary to take with the water, I'd almost prefer to take alone off the spoon. I took the generic 100mg for Macobid for the uti but after 4 days of 2 pills a day, that was all I could handle (made me sick all day and night) so I swiched to the sea salt (all we have here is Morton). I did it last night and am continuing today. I think its helping but its hard to say for sure. Any ideas on both the acv and the uti inquiries above?"

[SIDE EFFECTS] 02/05/2008: June from KC, KS writes: "I started taking ACV/BS (Apple cider vinegar/baking soda) last year for weight loss. (ACV combined with lots of exercise does work for me as a weight loss remedy!) At one point I also tried adding Ted's lime juice/baking soda remedy. Taking both the ACV/BS and lime/BS I noticed my skin itched all over and felt terribly dry. I only used the lime mix a few times. I wanted to try it because Ted recommended it for decalcification specifically in regards to polycystic ovaries. But I knew, at the least, it was dehydrating me. Once I stopped the lime/BS remedy my itchy dry skin symptoms went away even though I continued with the ACV/BS.
Well, several months later and several months of taking ACV/BS and I began noticing increasing problems with vaginal yeast infection...much to my surprise. I have not suffered YI in years! I really could not understand why this was happening, but began to suspect it had something to do with the ACV/BS affecting the ph balance of my body.
The past two weeks I've come down with the cold/flu combination we've been hit with here in Kansas. I fell ill, I believe, because of a temporary lapse in my preventative supplementation measures. Plus, I work at a hospital so I'm exposed to everything. Flu bug symptoms included vomiting, terrible nausea, constant diarrhea (luckily I did not have this, but my boyfriend did!), horrible sore throat, mucus, coughing and stopped up sinuses.
To combat the illness I tried lugol's iodine, swedish bitters, h2o2, colloidal silver and salt water gargles for the sore throat. Outside of strep, I don't believe I've ever had a sore throat that lingered as long as this one did-about 4 days! I also quit taking the ACV/BS because I read long ago you should never try to lose weight while sick. I came back to EarthClinic to read about flu and sore throat cures and saw lots of feedback on cayenne pepper for sore throat.
I recently tried cayenne in an ACV drink recipe here that was so disgusting I had to pour the whole thing down the sink. It tasted foul and burned my mouth, so using cayenne for my sore throat was a last resort. But so many people said it was The Cure, so I had to try it. Here's what I did:
I emptied one capsule of cayenne into 3/4 cup of hot water and let it steep for a while like tea. I then drained the mixture through a coffee filter and into a small spray bottle. Then I sprayed the mixture on the back of my throat, gargled a bit, then swallowed. The spray completely bypassed my mouth, so no unnecessary burning. The burning in my throat actually felt kind of soothing and effective. And, what a miracle cure!!! What iodine, h2o2, colloidal silver and salt water could not do in 4 days, CAYENNE PEPPER DID IN 2 HOURS!!! It completely took away the sore throat and I continued to use it periodically for the next several days to ensure the sore throat did not take hold again.
Now, for the flu symptoms. After reading EarthClinic some more I learned ACV is the #1 flu remedy, and I had quit taking it!!! So, I started back on the ACV. I had severe nausea and sipping ACV/BS helped rid me of the nausea which would continue to flare up. The ACV/BS definitely seemed to help with nausea. I also noticed it helped unclog my ears.
I took a great deal of ACV/BS. My weight loss mixture has usually been 2 Tbsp ACV & 1/4 tsp baking soda with Stevia added to sweeten it up. After fizzing subsides I add about 1 qt water and drink through the day. I would do this 1-2 times a day. But in my attempts to rid myself of the flu I was taking 4-6 Tbsp ACV w/ BS in about 1 qt of water.
While I do feel this remedy has helped me heal from the flu, which I'm still fighting a bit, it has also had the unfortunate side effect of worsening my yeast infection! Two days ago I spent $12 on a bottle of probiotics to help. It's helped some, but not completely.
So, once again, I came back to EarthClinic and found the page on ACV/BS side effects. I see I am not the only one suffering from the yeast infection side effect of BS. So, I am now going to try ACV alone, no BS, mixed in water. I really wanted to use the BS because of all the good things I have heard and its ability to protect my teeth. But I am guessing it is responsible for my yeast infection.
Also, in my reading I discovered the suggested relationship between electrolyte imbalance and too much baking soda! For the past several months my heart palpitations had been getting incredibly severe, so I started taking various forms of electrolyte solutions. I found Ted's recipe of sea salt/magnesium citrate/potassium citrate to be a fabulous cure. But now I really suspect the baking soda might have been contributing or even directly causing my electrolyte imbalance and subsequent heart palpitations all this time!
I am further dismayed by reading that BS can deplete your body of chromium, B-vitamins and iodine---some of the very substances I have been trying to increase my intake of! I have also noticed that this winter my face has really dried out in ways it has never done before, such as crepey skin on my forehead and increased wrinkles around my eyes. I have been lamenting this as premature aging, but now I suspect the drying effects of baking soda. I hope I see a reversal in these symptoms, because I have read a great deal about how ACV is supposed to make your skin glow. I was beginning to think I was the exception to the rule.
Of course, there are many many messages about how much ACV/BS has helped people. I'm guessing it all comes down to finding what works best for your body. I often think back to the blood type diet recommendations and how certain things work for certain blood types and other things don't. It appears that baking soda does not work well for someone like me who is O+ and has a naturally acidic body chemistry!"

[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/27/2008: Sayeed from Hyderabad, India writes: "Dear Ted, I tried ACV with Baking Soda therapy for 3 days and felt mucus coming from lungs with coughs to clear it. Then I stopped and mucus production selleted in 2 days. Started ACV again, and noticed mucus in lungs coming out with coughs. (Also lime and baking soda, caused mucus). Please advice, if I should include anything else to neutralise the mucus causing affect of ACV or Lime. I was going to suggest ACV to my uncle, but will wait till you reply, as he is Asthma patient. Thanks a million. Ted and earthclinic team are doing great humanitarian job, God bless you."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/21/2008: Tracy from Frederick, MD writes: "9/21/2007: Sandhi writes to Ted -- Just wanted to put in my .02cents. I was taking the ACV + Baking Soda tonic three times a day. It's ironic now that I think about it, the way our bodies talk to us, the last few times I took the recipe, (and I'm very used to the taste of the ACV/BS tonic) my nose would turn up at the smell, it smelled furmented, almost like old wine. Then I got a yeast/BV infection...and after research and trial and error, I realized that what Sandhi mentioned was true, too much BS can reverse the body's alkaline and actually make it too acidic. So, after curing the Yeast infection with Hydrogen Peroxide, yogurt and water (monostat DID NOT WORK) and quitting the Baking soda, I feel much better. Every once in a while if I feel heartburny I'll add BS to my ACV, but I skip the BS most days and just take ACV and feel much better~!"
[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/21/2007: Sandhi replies: "... I want to point something about the Baking Soda remedy for increasing the alkalinity of body. Unfortunately, this remedy worked for me in the beginning, as I noticed improved digestion, but then I noticed I came down with a chronic case of Bacterial Vaginosis. A fishy odor coming from the vagina. I have heard, women who are on Birth Control Pill get BV. But I have never used BCPs. Further reading, I found out that Baking Soda, and for that matter most anta-acids can lead to the depletion of B-vitamins in the body. ( including Folic Acid & B12). And no wonder Folic Acid is recommended as a cure for BV.'I am taking Folic Acid ( 1 mg) and B-complex now, but the fishy odor is not gone completely! I am really stuck with this odor which I NEVER had before. So could it be, my folic acid levels are depleted and I am unable to get them to a healthy level. As of now, I am suspecting Baking Soda has done this to me. And I am abstaining from using it anymore. I would be interested to hear what other female users have to say about this."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/12/2008: Mary from Los Angeles writes: "I having taking ACV/Baking Soda, 2 Tbsp and 1/2 tsp respectively, twice a day for three days now. I've had weird feelings in my mouth, lips, and eyes. Then tonight, my face suddenly started to feel like it was burning and then my tongue and lips started to tingle. Now my whole mouth, including my teeth tingles and my eyes are burning. The face has cooled somewhat. I was wondering am I having an allergic reaction to this remedy? I've been checking my pH all day with a strip and it's been very good, not acidic, whereas yesterday, it was very acidic. So I'm so down because I was actually feeling so hopeful, and now this. I'm a little scared right now...thank you for your answers."
[SIDE EFFECTS] Mary from Los Angeles, CA replies: "Just wanted to say that once I took the apple cider vinegar out and took the baking soda alone as Ted suggested, the pains and burning in my face and mouth area stopped. I guess I was having a negative (allergic?) reaction to the ACV. Thanks to Ted. I also need to get the rest of the supplements and the potassium citrate to add to the baking soda and I will let everyone know how it goes. My pH has not stabilized yet, but it hasn't gone to the 5.0 range (where my pH was before starting baking soda). I've also started to drink soy milk and grinding my vitamins and I can't say for sure yet, but my hair loss does seem to be under control."

I have lost all the energy & slept most of the day. I STOPPED taking baking soda, & instead diluted 2tbl of acv with 1liter water, & 1/2 tsp. of salt. & drink it with straw. Without baking soda, I feel much better & energetic."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/08/2008: Myrlene from Miami, FL writes: "I have been suffering with Acid Reflux for a few months now. I am so thankful for your website. ACV + Baking soda works great for me, specially in the morning. But, if I take after 6:00 PM, it keeps me awake all night. I already suffered with insomnia, and it aggrevates it more. Now, having a good night sleep is my problem. Ted, what can I do for that?"

[SIDE EFFECTS] 12/16/2007: TP from Boston, MA writes: "Yes, I agree with Sendhi, I was taking baking soda (1/8 tsp) almost every night with ACV and water. It made me feel good, it even helped me lose a few pounds, and it gave me a feeling of calmness. When it wore off the next day, I noticed my blood pressure went up at times when I got frustrated, and that was unusual to me. I have always eaten nutritiously and with the baking soda remedy, I noticed changes in my health, body, and the way I craved foods. I definately was not craving fruits or vegatables. I was craving everything else. I even feel the circulation pain in the back of my thighs was part of the cause. I never in my life complained about my legs. Luckily, when things go wrong inside of the body, the body has the ability to heal and bounce back. I stopped taking the baking soda and have changed my eating style again. Back to fruits and vegatables. I feel so much better."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 12/14/2007: Betty from Aurora, USA writes: "Q. I have Hypertension. Started the vinegar with molasses and soda and HBP got higher. Could that be from the soda? I cut it down to 1/4t but did not seem to help. Thanks Betty in Colorado"
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Betty: The hypertension may have come from the black strap molasses and possibly vinegar. The baking soda should be 1/2 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day and avoid dinner or eat a very early dinner, e.g. 3 p.m. The major control of the body's blood pressure is actually controlled by sodium nitrite. But sodium nitrite degrades relatively quickly to make it use in lowering blood pressure if the body is acidic. That is because sodium nitrite quickly degrades to nitric oxide which defeats its purpose in toward its intended target in reduction of constricted vessels before it reaches its destination.'Therefore, I would take sufficient get urinary pH to near 7, and at least for now avoid vinegar, black strap molasses, NO FRUIT JUICES, no french fries, no fried foods, snacks, corn syrup, and no dinner if the blood pressure is too high. Once the critical phases is over, only light dinners free from any vegetable oils or using coconut oil as substitute are actually a lot safer. Time and time again, common table salt caused high blood pressure while a sea salt does the opposite, due to the reason that sea salt pH is about 8 while a common table salt pH is quite acid at 5. Again, avoid sugar and salt added together when preparing any meals, especially common table salt. Avoid all canned foods and packaged food when eating, as it is high in psuedoestrogen contaminants and just prepare foods the old fashioned way.
If fear of too much sodium (I experience don't seem to indicate sodium, it is the chlorine!) then just add potassium. Chlorinated water, fluoriated water, and even sulfites found in dried fruits can lead to high blood pressure within hours, while french fries and potato chips and even popcorn in some cases can raise blood pressure even faster. I don't know why no one bother to mention this, it has problem occurs all the time with friends and family I know.
Lecithin can help, at lest reduce the free fatty acids, such as one tablespoon of granulated lecithin eaten along with foods a day."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 12/09/2007: Laura from Selfkant-Hongen, Germany writes: "I just need some help on the ACV remedy. I started taking it after a week of excruciating pain. Doctor gave me aciphex and reglan but both made me sleep for days! So I stumbled upon your site and have started the ACV remedy while stopping all Rx drugs. I've only taken it now for 2 days, but have had instant results. I've taken only one dose a night after dinner. However, when I go to bed, I'm having a hard time going to sleep or staying asleep and I wake up tired in the morning. I also am having muscle twitching and this morning my hands were aching. My heart also seems to be racing, but when I take my blood pressure, my BP is low and my heart rate is in the 50s-60s. Not sure what is going on there. I feel like I'm taking too much caffeine or taking sudafed, but I'm not. I've cut caffeine out completely when my pain started. Anyway, is this normal? Is there something else I should be doing? I want to continue the ACV therapy for my magnificent relief of all my GERD symptoms, but I don't want to harm my body by taking ACV. Do you know why I'm experiencing these symptoms? Thanks in advance!"
12/16/2008: Mike from Orland Park, IL replies: "I read your comment about not sleeping. I would try taking the ACV in the morning. I take a few things in the morning because they keep me up at night when I took them at night. The difference is huge. You never want to mess up your sleep! Good luck."
12/17/2008: PETER from CHICAGO, IL replies: "I ALSO HAD SOME MUSCLE TWITCHING AND TIC (on leg and near my eye area). I DON'T KNOW BECAUSE OF THE ACV/BAKING SODA OR NOT. TED PROBABLY HAS TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. THANKS!"
12/18/2008: Cathy from San Fran, California replies: "I believe muscle twitches can be caused by a magnesium deficiency. Maybe the acv and baking soda depletes certain minerals?"
12/18/2008: Tom from Galway, Ireland replies: "Reply to Laura, Selfkant-Hongen, Germany (12/9/2007) The side effects you wrote about sound more like SE s of Excitotoxins eg. Aspartame, MSG etc. (in chewing gum, diet drinks, oriental fast food) rather than anything related to ACV. TRY STOPPING ALL EXCITOTOXINS and take Magnesium citrate and B complex vitamins with food twice daily. (Dr Russell Blaylock & www.dorway.com). I hope this helps."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 12/08/2007: Melanie from Livingston, New Jersey writes: "I tried the apple cider vinegar (two tbsp with 1/4 baking soda), after lunch and dinner a few nights ago. (I had been taking two tbsp of the AC vinegar in a glass of water in the morning and evening for a week and a half prior.) That night I had a massive headache and thought I needed to go to the hospital. It was literally unbearable. I don't know why this happened, but am attributing it to this ACV remedy with the baking soda. I was fine throughout the initial week and a half, and had increased bowel movement, but that one night was a living hell. I'm scared to go back to it, but what I had initially been doing I think works best, at least in my experience."
