COCONUT OIL

17 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/14/2008: Dawn (dkcmr(at)hickorytech.net) from Mapleton, MN writes: "I have been taking 1 to 2 tbsp of coconut oil daily in my tea, as well as using it as a moisturizer for 5 days. after the 3rd day i started to and continue itch in various spots all over my body. I don't want to stop using CO because of all the benefits but its becoming a pain. literally! :) Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal, could it be the toxins that are fleeing my body? or am i possibly allergic? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/08/2008: Gislain from Phoenix, AZ writes: "I recently posted a comment about Coconut Oil and how eating a tablespoon each day helped my Depression. After two days of taking Coconut Oil internally, I developed a terrible case of Heartburn. I felt better emotionally but physically, my chest was painful and the heartburn lasted all day and night. I thought eating too fast was the culprit initially. I was suffering with this Heartburn for an entire week. I wondered if the heavy saturated fat content of the Coconut Oil was making my body react this way.

Today, I didn't eat any Coconut Oil and my symptoms reduced by over 50%. I love the Oil Pulling, Apple Cider Vinegar, and everything else listed on this site. Unfortunately, eating Coconut Oil didn't work out for me apparently. I do plan on using Coconut Oil externally on my skin."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/01/2008: Kelly from Brooklyn, NY writes: "i found out i was hypo in Sept 07. have never been overweight ..read about VCO so i tried it for a month but have gained weightI went from size 4 to 6 in a short time. i exercise alot and have not changed my eating habits with the exception of adding VCO to my diet. I would have 1lbs on my toast in the morning and then cook with another tbls at night. i started taking it for additional energy and softer skin...but the only thing i got was thicker thighs and stomach. i just had my endo appt this week and still had to increase my meds as the THS levels were still not close to normal. I guess I was the exception!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  02/27/2008: Melissa from Miami, USA writes: "Hello, just wanted to give some feedback in regards to my experience with coconut oil usage. I took about 1 tbsp. of coconut oil and in less than 1 hour I had intense pain in my stomach along with heartburn ( I never get this). After that I developed diarrea and vomited. Those reactions lasted well through the night and for two days after taking the coconut oil the intense stomach pains persisted. If you are going to try cocunut oil it might be a great idea to use it as a cooking agent as suggested by another reader rather than ingesting it."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/19/2007: Beverly Anne (lion.lamb07[@]gmail.com) from Miami, FL writes: "Up to two weeks of v.c.o. usage I've got great looking/feeling skin but my face has broken out and experienced dryness. I've also got diarrhea and nausea with usage but am almost certain it is because of candida die-off symptoms as I understand vco has caprylic acid qualities used in fighting candida infection. Otherwise, I've lost weight, thyroid pulsating has subsided quite a bite and no vaginal discharge. Will up the dosage from 1 TBS. to 1.5 gradually during next week."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/14/2007: Linda from Concord, CA writes: "I began using VCO on doctor's orders to help combat hypothyroid. My skin, hair, energy levels were all positive results. I also used VCO as a deodorant. However, after a few days I began gaining weight, got dizzy spells and some diarrhea. My blood pressure soared! After continued trials for a couple of weeks, my doctor advised me to stop using it. This was disappointment as I got good results in other areas; however, every attempt made to try it again caused my BP to go higher. I do full body cleanses once or twice a year. Possibly it might help if I did just liver cleanse? I'm 60 years old, exercise daily, eat healthy foods, do drink 1.5 cups coffee in morning and am Blood Type A. Disappointed as not being able to use coconut oil due to HBP. Would appreciate any comments on my HBP problem to be answered on this site. Any insight would be beneficial. Thanks, a CA gal"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  11/07/2007: Shane (McManus) from Sunbury, Victoria/Australia writes: "I've had mixed results taking coconut oil. It cleared my eczema and improved my skin but have been light headed and dizzy after 2 weeks of taking it. Also my hayfever has come back where i was fine before. A herxheimer reaction should have settled after 2 weeks. I'm wondering if others who have had reactions are Blood group O, as according to the blood group diet coconut oil does not agree with type O blood."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  09/27/2007: Jess from London, England writes: "the many times I tried massaging my head with coconut oil, if I leave it on for too long on my head, I end up with a fever. After many years of not using it, I used it a few days ago. Left it on for many hrs and the next day, I had the worst flu and still am feeling very lethargic, weak."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  09/21/2007: Dee from Mineral Wells, TX writes: "I have recently taken CO Butter because of the great taste and then taken the VCO later for about for about 4 days, my autistic son was prescribed Caprylic Acid for yeast and bacteria overgrowth, so thought I'd give it a try, although I have had a wonderful decrease in cravings for sweets and an increase in energy it is totally overkill, Not only did I have more energy but TOOO much, I've stopped taking it due to this, I took approximately 1 to 2 tablespoons daily and can't sleep, 2am rolls around and here I am, awake, and the most bothersome thing is now my feet and lower legs are cramping soo much I cants sleep!!! I'm tired but am revved up like the energizer bunny, how long will this last and what can be done about the feet?? Help Me!!!"

EC: We wrote to Dee for more information...

09/24/2007: Dee replies: "Hope this helps, Caprylic Acid is Coconut Oil, anyway I did not take Caprilic Acid, I took VCO. Still have insommnia and cramping legs and feet at night, will this wear off anytime soon, its been about 7 days. Im starting to feel tired at night but still cant manage to sleep until 1 or 2 am. [SIDE EFFECTS]  03/21/2007: Sheena (gilliansisland2002@yahoo.com) from Belize, Belize writes: "I first tried coconut oil to combat the symptoms of hypothyroidism 2 weeks ago.By the first day, I had fantastic energy and felt like I've never felt before! One week ago however, I started having heart palpitations, high blood pressure and tachycardia (rapid heart rate), even at rest, that landed me in the ER. I had never had these problems before and I am wondering if the oil boosted my metabolism so much that it is causing these symptoms. Is there anyone else that has experienced this? I feel great otherwise, but my unbelieving doctor has told me to stop taking the oil and put me on antihypertensive meds. I was taking a tablespoon with every meal. Was this too much? Can somebody please help me?"

05/18/2008: Lori Hale from Nascar City, Tennessee replies: "I think you were taking too much coconut oil, I take it and I only take 2 tablespoons a day only. I find that it is very good in oatmeal with raw sugar. Hope this helps. Lori."

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

3 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/14/2008: Olivia from Brooklyn, New York writes: "Caution drinking Hydrogen Peroxide: I tried drinking less than a quarter capful of Rite Aid brand 3% hydrogen peroxide this morning in a 12 oz glass of water. I immediately felt my body tingling and I drank another glass of water to dilute the effect. Within minutes I felt a weird sensation and had to rush to the bathroom. I have been rushing to the bathroom practically all morning. I did not know whether to laugh or cry because I suffer from chronic constipation and I thought I welcome the frequent bathroom visits but not due to an upset stomach. I drank another glass of water and continued feeling funny. I went to Rite Aid and spoke to the pharmacist who told me I should be okay. I felt better after having a late breakfast. I have a sensitive stomach and I was told the HP may have been too much of an irritant for it. Just a word of caution if you are going to use 3% like I did for the first time, maybe you should start with one drop and see the effect or diarrhea and a racing pulse may be the side effect for a while. It is now about five hours later and I feel almost normal."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/27/2008: Brandon (koufonissi@hotmail.com) from Berkeley, California writes: "Hi, I wanted to warn people of one potential side effect of hydrogen peroxide therapy. I took it internally as directed on this website and started having palpitations about a week later. These were premature ventricular contractions and progressed to happen in a bigeminal pattern (every other beat) for about a third of every day. I have no prior cardiac history and am a generally health 36 year-old man. I stopped the hydrogen peroxide and they went away. I restarted it after a week of no palpitations to test the theory that it may be due to the hydrogen peroxide and they came back. Stopped it again, and they went away. Premature ventricular contractions are not usually harmful, but are disturbing and it also sent me on a wild cardiac goose chase (including a $2500 echocardiogram) because I didn't consider that it could be related to the hydrogen peroxide therapy."

LEMON AND BS WITH HBP

1 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  09/07/2007: PL from Naples, Florida,USA writes: "I have had HBP for many years, and finally gave in to the doctors and started on BP meds.I was taking the meds for about one year and then I found earth clinic. I started off taking the lemon juice/baking soda 2-3 times a day and I started to wean off the BP meds. I couldn't find any info on how to get off the meds so I took a pill every other day , then 1/2 pill for three days, then stopped all together. I checked my presure 3-4 times per day and it was 125/65 or close to that most of the time. I was very happy because I hate taking the meds...after nine days off the meds and nice low bBP readings, yesterday turned into a nightmare!

I woke up in the morning with my head spinning, the room was spinning and I was very dizzy, I had shortness of breath and I was very scared. My BP was very high. My husband came home and rushed me to the doctor. He was very upset that I stopped the meds and said I was lucky I didn't have a stroke. He said I had a rebound reaction and my BP was very high, with racing heart. I am back on the meds and wondering what happened. The doctor said NEVER take baking soda when you have high pressure! The lemon or ACV does not balance the sodium with potassium. I love natural cures, so now I will have to try to find another way to not have an acid PH. The doc says I will always have to take BP meds the rest of my life( I'm 55) Does any body out there know what happened? I still feel a little dizzy today, and am discouraged. I don't want anyone else to go through what I just did."

MOLASSES

3 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  10/01/2008: Fee from Melbourne , Victoria writes: "I've been taking blackstrap molass in my coffee every day for the last 3 weeks and haven't noticed any changes in reversing gray hair. I'll keep at it until the jar finishes and see how that goes.

It provides me with a lot of energy. After a run, i normally get tired but takign 2 teaspoons with a drink, i don't feel the need for a nap. However, the calories in it makes you very fat if you don't work it off and I noticed that it gives me a lot of phlegm when I take it."

MULTIPLE REMEDIES TRIED

1 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  02/12/2008: Loretta M from Delta, Colorado writes: "I have been using Bragg's acv with 1/4 tsp for the past 4 months daily along with 1/4 tsp of sea salt in a liter of water daily, the borax treatment 1/8 tsp 4-5 days out of the week, 1 tblsp of bsm [blackstrap molasses] daily, was doing vco daily and I have gained over 7 pounds. I really felt energized when I first started the remedies now I feel blah again. I noticed my sugar cravings are almost gone. I went through lots of stress the Nov. Dec. months but still did the remedies.

I tried the cayenne pepper tea. I recently started using lecithin due to high liver enzymes, and my blood sugar has been high in the past. what am i doing wrong? I am post menopausal and taking 1mg of estrodial with osteopenia (almost osteoporosis) my blood work showed hdl cholesterol low-37 LDL-187, low vit D, low B12. Any one else experiencing weight gain and just feeling blah? Am I doing too many remedies at the same time? the wrong remedies?""

OIL PULLING

10 SIDE EFFECTS

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/22/2008: Paige from Cleveland, OH writes: "I started doing the oil pulling last week, missed a couple days over the weekend, then started back this week. Both when I first started and now since I've re-started my lymph nodes are swollen and extremely sore. Is this normal? It seems to me that it's traveling down my body, the first week was the nodes in my neck area, this week it's my arms and underarms. I was just wondering if it's normal...I thought perhaps it's because my body is ridding itself of toxins through the oil pulling. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/27/2007: Jenmal (jenmal@gmail.com) from Minneapolis, Minnesota writes: "I found this site because I was searching for a rememdy for the whiteness on my tounge. I struggled with the idea of OP for about a week and decided to do it. The first time I did it I did it for 20 minutes, but immediatly noticed my tounge was nice and pink again. The second day and beyond(now on my 5th day), i got a cold sore which I get very infrequently, and I also would get weird headaches too, so I hope it is s good sign. It is one of the worst cold sores I have ever had BTW, and I also felt real sick for a little while and sluggish. It almost feels like things are trying to leave my body. I am going to keep it up and see what develops, and will post my results later."
