07/19/2011: Victoria from Las Vegas, Nv, Usa writes: "I just found this website yesterday and it's wonderful. As you can imagine the information is overwhelming and soooo interesting. I saw a post from a woman who stated she had relief from a breast discharge due to a lump and that the OP helped. Today I've searched and searched and cannot find that post again. If anyone has any feedback on the subject I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Namaste"

09/13/2011: User from West Coast, Usa replies: "I don't know for sure, but I noticed no one has replied to your question. It seems like it would be enormously helpful to pull bacteria out of your mouth whether you have teeth or not. I'm pretty sure I have a virus that lives in the cavities of my teeth-roots and have been searching for years for a way to deal with them. I think OP is it. If there are fewer bacteria and viruses etc in your mouth to swallow and enter the rest of your body, that would be a good thing too."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  05/25/2011: Diamond from Cleveland, England writes: "hi, ive been oil pulling now for 5 days with pure coconut oil, finding this quite hard to do, I only last 5 minutes, when I spit it out, it is white but runny, when I do spit the oil out, straight away I start coughing, and bring up loads of rubbish of my chest, but have noticed my chest clear, and my face brighter and smoother, I just hope it is healing my gums, every day I check my gums, just to see if there is a little improvement, as the gaps from my gum to my teeth look terrible, nothing up to now, not sure when I will see any improvement, but I will let u know. ill keep oil pulling."

04/20/2011: Terry from Thonotosassa, Florida, United States writes: "I am researching oil pulling to see if it will help my teeth become firm again but I'm worried about the detoxing affect it will have on me. I am on bio identical hormone pellet injections as well as a nightly progesterone liquid that is placed under my toungue at bed time. Will oil pulling pull these hormones out of my system? They are very expensive to do and I can't afford to have the detox pull it out of my system. Also the progesterone liquid is sugar based and I can't rinse this out of my mouth for at least 1/2 hour. Could anyone help me with this? Thank you for any help in this matter."

[YEA]  03/17/2011: Julie from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Usa writes: "Oil pulling soothes my mouth tremendously---I've been traumatized by dental crowns and oil pulling was recommended by my dentist. I use organic extra virgin olive oil and have just held it in my mouth for 20 minutes. It felt so soothing to gums, teeth and jaw bone.

I repeated with another 20 minute session right afterward my first oil pull last night. Today an area on my gum at the site of a 2 crown procedure placed 3 weeks ago made a huge leap toward healed. Roots from a more recent crown has been calm most of the day--not a small feat since that root bothers me frequently.

Regarding getting rid of the oil after I use it.... I also do not want to cause septic problems. I spit the oil into a paper napkin and put it in the trash. Spitting it into a bag of trash that already has lots of tissues also works well--so there's no oily mess in the trash can."

03/06/2011: Susan from Hebron, In, Usa writes: "I have read all the benefits of oil pulling and am ready to try it for myself. I am encouraged by the posts I have read concerning the variety of ailments that have been cured or at the very least greatly improved through oil pulling. I am just wondering if certain oils are better than others for certain ailments. I want to improve my overall health, but I have three issues in particular that I would like to address.

First, I have bad problems with my gums and teeth. Second, I have severe arthritis in my right hip and knee and lower back... Very painful. Third, I am very overweight (I know, that only aggravates the arthritis), and really need to jump start my weight loss. It seems like my metabolism is in slow motion most probably from 30 years of yo yo dieting. So, is there one oil that will help with my three areas of concern? Should I rotate between different oils? Thanks for your help, and I can't wait to get started. Susan"

I thought Omega 3 fish oil was very close to being cod liver oil?"

03/05/2011: Bluebelle from Various, Eu writes: "I've noticed that there are lots of people asking about the reasons for oil not turning white; and some, I have noticed, seem to think it has something to do with the toxins purportedly being removed.

Oil - ANY oil - will turn white when beaten, swished or mixed with water in any other way for a period of time long enough and/or with enough energy. It is a basic characteristic of emulsions, I.E. Mixtures of non-blendable liquids, such as water and oil. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the presence (or absence) of toxins.

If the oil in your mouth does not turn white and/or watery, it could be that you are not swishing it energetically enough. (It goes without saying that too short a period - like a a minute or two - won't suffice to produce an emulsion either. )

The most common mistake with oil pulling seems to be that the initial dose of oil is simply too big, so swishing it energetically around the mouth becomes much more difficult, especially as the quantity of liquid increases with the addition of saliva.

Try swishing a small amount of oil - but energetically.

I guarantee it will turn white. :)"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  02/26/2011: Jeanna from San Jose, Ca writes: "I began oil pulling (cold pressed sesame oil) about four weeks ago. I have to say that I feel much better all around. My reflux has all but disappeared, although my stomach still feels turbulent and like its burning at times. Now my tongue is becoming more pink (was white and dry for 20 years and caused a foul taste), my skin is soft and supple and I have more energy. My appetite has also become more regulated. It feels as though toxins are being removed from my body. I have also modified my diet, cutting out refined sugar where possible and reducing my starch intake. All these years, I think I have had a candida problem. It has not completely gone away, but I feel as though I am making progress. The doctors were not able to help me with my white tongue, fatigue, and intestinal problems (primarily relux). I am glad to have found this site. Kudos to the old-time remedies!"

02/24/2011: Bitterbrew from Amherst, Wisconsin, United States writes: "I had a question that I haven't seen asked or answered yet. I was wondering if medication had any effect on the results of oil pulling. If oil pulling is a type of detox, then wouldn't it be fighting against your medication in trying to rid your body of it? When I was oil pulling I did it first thing in the morning then took my meds and vitamins after. But I just hoped that my medication didn't counteract the possible results. I am taking 70mg of vyvanse. In case that information is important. Does anybody have an answer for this?"

[YEA]  03/03/2011: Pam from Kansas City, Mo replies: "I don't have the exact answer to your question of why it is recommended to wait after eating or drinking before you oil pull, but one possible theory is if you pull with a full stomach, the oil will have double duty. It will be pulling toxins from the food in your stomach as well as other parts of your system. I enjoy oil pulling and I can tell the difference in my congestion problems immediately afterwards."
09/15/2011: Amy from San Francisco, Ca, Usa replies: "I've been wondering the same.... I'm actually wondering if we won't produce as much saliva after we've eaten.... And I think I read that it helps to digest the oil... So better when we're a little hungry."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/31/2010: Flower from Newark, Vermont writes: "Hi Ted and all that read and respond to this site. Thank you for all this great information! I have been oil pulling for a week with sesame oil and I have been exeriencing dizziness, light headedness. Headaches and eye twitching. I believe this may be a healing crisis, but I want to make sure. Is this normal to feel worse and to feel dizzy and light headed? Is there anything else I should be doing. I began taking Apple Cider Vinegar and honey a couple of weeks ago, then started oil pulling with sesame oil a week ago, 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes before I go to sleep. Thank you for any help that you can give me. Sincerely, Flower"

12/30/2010: Michelle from San Francisco, Ca, Us writes: "Hello, I began oil pulling about 10 days ago. I do it about 2x's per day, once with sesame and once with coconut each session for 15 minutes. I have a chronic (for years) postnasal drip and loss of smell (2 years) about 4 days into op a huge (this is so gross, sorry) congealed mass of mucous came from somewhere deep in my sinuses. Followed by another and then some smaller ones. Then there was a more liquid-y stream flowing for a couple of days which turned into a pretty bad cold. That miraculously cleared up in a couple of days.

My head feels so clear now I can hardly believe it. This is Great!!! I am really wondering though, about the bags under my eyes. They seem more intense to me than usual. Does that make sense at all? Do I really have a chance to rid myself of these? I hope some of you have had real experience of this. If so, how much time should I give it to expect real results? If any of you have had more success with a particular oil for eye bags, I would love to know what worked for you. Thanks, Everyone"

I have been pulling 3-5 times per week for about 9 months and one of the most noticeable benefits has been reduced under-eye puffiness. I mostly use coconut and olive oil and both seem to produce the same results. its such a bonus! I dont even use makeup to mask this area anymore : ))"

12/26/2010: Jen from Malvern, Pa writes: "I have a private holistic practice and over the past 25 years have had my sensitive clients start with 3 minutes per day the first week. 5 the second. 7 the third and then up to 10-15 depending on how they respond. I had one client stay at 3 minutes for 3 months before he could work up to 5. I think that some of the intense side effects are due to the dental component of the root canals, tmj joint and brain aspects releasing as we need to understand the cranial component of this method as well. An offering for more sensitive clients and to recognize the body isn't to be pushed but encouraged. Namaste, Jen"

12/21/2010: Mary from Chicago, Il, Usa writes: "I first tried oil pulling last January after having the swine flu for over 3 weeks. I had tried tons of doctor prescribed antibiotics, but I still had this horrible hacking dry cough. I first used 1 tbsp sesame oil and swished it around in my mouth for 20 minutes. While I was spitting out the oil, I noticed the congestion in my chest loosening and before I knew it I was hacking up tons of phlegm. I felt so much better and kept it up until I was fully recovered a couple days later. I also noticed my teeth were super white after oil pulling. I have since used coconut oil and it works just as well. I have found it's best to do this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach so I keep the oil in the bathroom and swish it around while I shower."
