Cure Snoring

Updated: 05/17/2012

rss feed

"Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. The sound may be soft or loud and unpleasant. The structures are usually the uvula and soft palate. The irregular airflow is caused by a blockage and usually due to one of the following:

* Throat weakness causing the throat to close during sleep

* Mispositioned jaw, often caused by tension in muscles

* Fat gathering in and around the throat

* Obstruction in the nasal passageway

Statistics on snoring are often contradictory, but at least 30% of adults and perhaps as many as 50% of people in some demographics snore. One survey of 5713 Italian residents identified habitual snoring in 24% of men and 13.8% of women, rising to 60% of men and 40% of women aged 60 to 65 years; this suggests an increased susceptibility to snoring as age increases." [YEA]  09/29/2009: Dublinanne from Dublin, Ireland: "Hey

I'm an acupuncturist studying to be a naturopthy.

My slim husband is pretty robust and not very interested in health. He's slim and fit, eats crap, drinks a fair amount and when he started smoking again he started snoring heavily waking me about 9 times a night where i'd have to push him onto his side.

So he's not good at sitting still for the acupuncture, so I did three things. Bought one of those spray's full of essential oils (from boots) for your throat. Massaged the pads of his thumbs (thenar eminance) a few mins each, very basic up and down rubs anyone can do.

And lastly made my own cheapie acupuressure thing. In boots the ring is 50 bucks or something crazy

Just get any bandage, put a few grains of rice on it and stick it at the base of the inner baby finger (just above where it joins the finger). that's it.

No snoring. Tedious a little though as somehow I have to do the little hand rub thing every night and not him. Even thought it's simple. Bah

But I shouldn't complain he's fab in every other way! :)

Good luck!"

Thanks for your wonderful feedback about snoring. I do snore very heavily and would like to try what you have said. Just want to know why to apply rice in the bandange and stick it at the inner baby finger ? Should it be right hand or left hand? Where can i find the spray's full of essential oils in Los Angeles ? what is the content of the oil?

Thanks a lot. I want to try this as my wife is fed up with my snoring.

Thanks,

[YEA]  12/05/2008: Greg from Walla Walla, Wa: "Hello, after suffering the last few months with constant congestion both in my sinus's and my upper chest I checked myself into a hospital. After being poked and monitored for 3 days they discharged me after filling me with the same off the shelf Mucinex you can buy yourself. Of course after a day I started feeling bad again as the drug wore off. Out of desperation I turned to the Internet as I felt I was suffocating from the congestion. I found this website with all the testimonials on the wonders of using ACV. I went to the local market during lunch and bought a bottle of Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar...for $3 I'd take a chance...why not? That evening (four days ago) I started taking a tablespoon of ACV in a coffee mug I filled with water. In an hour my sinus's started feeling clearer. I had forgotten I could breath through my left nostril. I started drinking my "tea" in the morning and evening. Well, now its been 4 days and my chest is starting to clear also. Just yesterday I was still having the chest constrictions but today I feel great. I'm anxious to try the natural unfiltered ACV when and where I can find it. Also interested in adding local hometown honey if I can find it as I have read about the benefits here also. Now, I need to say that I'm an old crouch, 57 years old, and set in my ways. But I have to admit to you all that this has helped me. No voodoo magic stuff for me. Try it. I did and I'm happy. And the wife is happy too! She says I haven't snored in the three nights I've tried this. Of course I didn't think I ever snored!!"

I have lost around 8 pounds till today, my BP is getting well controlled around 110/70 and oily skin is natural looking w/o any skin eruptions, etc. Overall I feel young and mentally sharp at the age of 55. I also found something astonishing and require verification from others. I found and, as reported by my family, my Snoring is missing now a days!! Really ACV is an Amazing Drink. Thanks"

[YEA]  04/30/2007: CC from Baltimore, Maryland: "When I found this website I was suffering from acid reflux and GERD so bad that every night's sleep was being interrupted. I even stopped eating dinner for about 2 weeks hoping to offset an attack. I was already on medication for high blood pressure and was refusing to take the purple pill for the reflux. I found this site and immediately thought about Dr. Atkins little refered to book on methods of weight loss and gastrointenstinal health that he put out long before the Atkins diet. It was a regime of vinegar and olive oil (tablespoon of each) before or after each meal. This could not have been a coincidence. So I got some ACV and proceeded to drink 1/4 cup acv in 8 ounces of water either right after my evening meal, or just before brushing my teeth for bed. I have slept like a queen for 2 weeks. My snoring is normal instead of ground shaking. It is so nice not to toss and turn all through the night. I am going to up my regime to use it for high blood pressure next. Wish me luck!"

[YEA]  04/15/2007: John from Fountain Hills, Arizona: "Seven days ago I was ready to put a gun to my head. I was continuously waking up, had difficulty breathing and swallowing. My self diagnosis search led me to this web site. I started taking two tablespoons of ACV and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda in about 4 ounces of apple juice. It actually tasted pretty good. Some relief was almost immediate, but one week later I am thrilled to report 2 consecutive good nights sleeps of about 7 hours. This is the best I have slept in two months as the throat problems caused me to snore badly when I could get to sleep. My wife has welcomed me back from the guest room, which I am also thrilled about. I have osteoarthritis which I WAS using a combination of CELEBREX (4 OR SO A MONTH) and IBUPROPHEN(whenever I wanted)I would get up in the morning and enjoy 6 or 7 cups of coffee on an empty stomach, then eat and have 3 or 4 diet sodas during the rest of the day. BAD BAD BAD. So I stopped the coffee and sodas, started taking B complex, large doses of Vitamin c, L Glutamine and traded the coffee for herbal teas, and the sodas for juice. NO MORE IBUPROFEN Tylenol only if I need it. Bottom line: In a week I feel totally different, much much better actually. THANK GOD for this web site. I wish you luck if you have a similar situation to mine."

[YEA]  04/02/2007: Brian from Gainesville, VA: "It has been two months since I started trying the apple cider vinegar for my sinuses and I cannot deny any longer the positive effects. I didn't see much of anything for the first week and a half or so, but then I could feel the pressure start to ease slightly. By a month in, I could sleep on my back for the first time in years (I've had to sleep on my side to avoid sinus headaches in the morning). My wife, who made fun of me at first for trying this now freely admits to me and to our friends that I don't snore as much anymore. We are both pretty surprised. I just take two spoonfuls in my bottled water each morning and one spoon in my herb tea. Many thanks - I am so glad I happened to google your site up!"

I can't belive the immidiate impact ACV has on me. After taking the first cup I feel much more energetic, and after a week the skins on my face begin to clear-up. I've also found on here that ACV will also cure snoring so, after one week of taking ACV, I've asked my wife check to see if my snoring has improve. Not to my surprise, she said that my snoring has reduced dramatically. Well, now 4 weeks later my snoring has came back. What is wrong? Should I increase my dosage and frequency to 3 table spoon in 8oz of water and 3 times a day?

Thank you Earth Clinic"

Ever since we started doing thtis, he has a lot less trouble with allergies, and he says that I no longer snore! Not that I ever was a real loud snorer, but whatever heavy breathing that blockage or congestion was causing, it is now gone! It only takes about 1/4 tsp. - just a tiny bit on your fingertip for each nostril."

I am still not used to the feeling of having the bed elevated and it feels weird like I am going to slide off the bed. I tried this to alleviate snoring and possibly sleep apnea. Hopefully, I will get used to the elevated bed because it seems to work for other people. I will try this for a couple weeks and then try going flat again and see if there is much of a difference."

[YEA]  04/09/2008: Vinny from Atlanta, GA: "If you sniff pure Eucalyptus oil once or twice right before going to bed, it should cure your snoring. Don't inhale to much, make sure you slowly sniff it so it smoothly goes through your nose. You may also want to put a small amount (dilute with water) between your eyebrows so when you go to sleep, you still can smell a little bit of it.

Also I hear that if you drink lots of water, this will prevent it as well as it's been said that people may snore if they are not hydrated enough.

I hope this helps!"

EC: SECRET: In North Hollywood, California, there is an herb shop that we used to frequent called The Herb Product Company (www.herbproducts.com). It's been around for decades! They have the best price for eucalyptus oil, which you can buy in large bottles.'If you add Diffuser Reeds to an 8 fl oz bottle of eucalpytus oil, they will make a room smell amazing!

I must warn you, if this works for other snorers, the ENT guys and maybe a few other surgeons, are going to hate you because you definitely will decrease their "job security", by decreasing their patient load for surgery to get rid of the problem."

[YEA]  03/17/2010: Sarah from Indianapolis, In, Usa: "I would like to tell everyone about a remedy not listed on this site...Mangosteen juice! I bought the juice for its super-antioxidant properties, but I found a very happy unknown (to me) cure. My boyfriend and daughter snore terribly, and the first night we all tried the juice, they both stopped snoring. Not only that, but they both breathed through their noses all night! All it takes is 1/3 cup of juice 2 hours before bedtime. The juice has strong anti-inflammatory properties which may be what stops the snoring."

03/18/2010: Rob from Manhattan, New York replies: "I also have experimented with Mangosteen, & have noticed some positive results with inflammation. However it is ridiculously expensive. I would encourage you to buy it from a local health store & NOT from some multi-level marketing scheme. There are a lot of exaggerated claims and untrustworthy internet vendors making it difficult to separate truth from fact."
03/25/2010: Sarah from Indianapolis, Indiana replies: "In response to Rob from Manhattan: I have to agree that mangosteen juice is expensive, although the low dosage required for effectiveness helps to stretch the dollars a bit. You are 100% correct about the marketing schemes that exist, many companies have exaggerated claims about their brands (that they sell for $40 per 32 oz). I have had success with whatever brands I have found on clearance in local big box stores. These are often not a health nut's first choice for shopping needs, and I have had great luck at finding the juice 50% off (around $12 a bottle). The bottle lasts a couple of weeks, and I consider the price to be well worth my sleep! It is still more affordable than a prescription, and has other positive health benefits as well with the high level of antioxidants and xanthones."

OXYGEN RICH FOODS

Ratings:

YEA

[YEA]  10/30/2010: Rojoseph from Tucson, Az: "I always find it interesting how everyone is always trying to treat the symptoms of what is causing snoring instead of what is causing it. I firmly believe that if a person's body is not getting enough or absorbing enough oxygen (oxygen deficient)when they are awake (due to their lifestyle/diet), they will snore. Their bodies become oxygen deficient due to a variety of reasons. When we sleep, our body is doing all kinds of stuff to try to get us balanced again. If you are oxygen deficient, your body is working very hard to get in all the oxygen it can the only way it can while you are asleep... Through breathing. So your brain is sending a message for you (while you are asleep) to breath in really hard to take in as much air as possible. Keep in mind all of your muscles are in the relaxed state, including those in your throat. When you are awake you can take in deep deep breathes without snoring. You can't do this while you are asleep and not snore! Try this exercise... Relax all the muscles in your throat (like how they are when you are asleep)and breath in really hard (nose or mouth). You made a snoring sound right? See what I am saying now?

If you are snoring, one of the main reasons (aside from any physical defects in your throat/nasal), I believe it may be because you are oxygen deficient probably due to number of reasons. These reasons especially include diet. A lot of foods (like those containing a lot of processed flour, sugar, etc... ) deplete the body's oxygen stores as the body is required to use more oxygen dealing with those types of foods than what they bring in. A diet that is high in oxygen rich foods will help significantly to reduce snoring. Another factor we become oxygen deficient is not taking in enough oxygen due to shallow breathing. Our breathing needs to be deeper throughout the day so we are taking in more oxygen. For whatever reason, stress also seems to contribute to making our bodies oxygen deficient. Physical activity is a must not only as a stress reducer, but for other obvious health reasons. In addition to the aforementioned, doing the H2O2 therapy (many examples here on EC), may also help your bodies become more rich in oxygen and in turn reduce or cure your snoring. Try these ideas out.... I don't snore anymore and my wife no longer pushes me while I'm asleep!!!!"

WARNING!

[YEA]  12/20/2006: Abdulrahman : "Hello, for Snoring, I suffered many years from this, and tried many solutions from the internet, and self-help books. Tried facial devices that are worn on the face to hold the jaw closed during sleep. I also tried the method of placing a tennis ball in the back of a T-shirt, and sleeping on my side. The tennis ball prevents you from sleeping on your back (which allows snoring). The best solution that worked for many years now is: Simply apply some standard yellow 2.0 inch wide masking tape to the mouth, at bedtime (kiss your wife before please....). The tape length should be enough, about 8.0 inches long, to hold the ends tightly on your cheeks. Result: You will not snore because snoring requires an open mouth. Good Luck. Lowest cost snoring solution ever invented."

[WARNING!]  09/29/2009: Harmonious1 from Alamogordo, New Mexico replies: "Please make sure you can exhale through the nose before you try this. Sounds like it would work for anyone who can easily exhale through the nose, but many people with snoring can't do that."
[YEA]  05/17/2012: "This does work. It keeps the jaw up. Wise to cut small hole in tape to allow air flow (while tape still holding jaw up). Best and cheapest solution to tongue caused snoring! "
