BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

[YEA]  01/28/2007: Pat from Lamper, MO writes: "Recently had bladder infection, solved with baking soda and ACV. Nobody ever discusses Vit C problem. If I take Vit C or even a health bar with citric acid, I develop kidney or bladder problem. Would love to cleanse with your 1/4 tsp lemon, soda and pinch of Magnesium and potassium."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Pat: If I have a bladder infection or even a kidney problems, yes, vitamin C and citric acid is not helpful. But it is NOT the vitamin C or the citric acid being the problem. It is the pH of the things you are consuming. In event of this problem (uti), the pH should be over 8.

Vitamin C are of two types and people tend to lump them all together. One is the ascorbic acid which is acid and tends to promote bacteria growth by acidity. A sodium ascorbate vitamin C has a pH of about 8 and it prevents bacterial growth. A vitamin C can be both a pro-oxidant and an anti-oxidant depending on the pH. Vitamin C is a two edge sword. If the vitamin C is acid, it is a pro-oxidant. If the vitamin C is alkalline it is an anti-oxidant.

Citric acid and sodium citrate are very different, but chemically they are the similar in most ways, but at different pH.

When a baking soda is reacted with citric acid, it becomes sodium citrate and its pH is over 8. So in event of a kidney and bladder infection whatever you eat, its pH should be 8, or at least 7.

How do I know this is the issue. You mentioned you were helped with baking soda and ACV. The pH is about 7, but if reacted long enough it is between 7.5 to 8.0

It is the same with the other ones. It helps therefore to get a good pH paper and measure it and make sure it is alkaline and pH is about 8 in event of an infection.

Sea salt -- 1 teaspoon one dose only in one glass of water usually will kill the bladder infection. But for tough cases take this along with cranberry juice and some baking soda to increase the alkalinity of cranberry juice to about pH of 8. Sea salt pH is quite often pH is between 7.5 to 8.5. A good quality sea salt will have a pH of 8, a very bad one I have seen (overprocessed overpurified) can be as low as 6. A good sea salt is light brown and never bleached white."

[YEA]  11/09/2011: Trace from Upstate, Ny replies: "Over the weekend I felt UTI coming on. Pain in the right side and frequent urges to use the bathroom. I couldn't get to the doctor for a couple days, so I tried a tbls of apple cider vinegar mixed in a little bit of cranberry juice. Hour later I felt better. The pain in side became less. Took it three times that day. Next day I felt all back to normal. Urine was clear. It's now day five and I'm still taking it like an antibiotic to make sure it stays away.

On an added note. I also had laryngitis for a few days. When I took the ACV and cranberry juice my voice returned the same day. My mother-in-law had laryngitis for nearly three weeks. She's now trying this."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, D-MANNOSE

[YEA]  08/26/2009: Stefani from Cleveland, Ohio, USA writes: "I'm new to this site but SO glad I found it! I have been suffering from a recurring UTI for the past 3 months and I was getting fed up with all of the harsh antibiotics I'd been prescribed (Cipro, Bactrim). I am also without health insurance at this time, so I began to search on the internet for effective NATURAL remedies to get rid of this awful infection once and for all and that's when I read about apple cidar vinegar and D-Mannose. I bought a small jar of ____ Apple Cidar Vinegar (with the mother) from my local whole foods and not being totally convinced it would work, sprung for the D-Mannose tablets too. I've found that the apple cidar vinegar was pretty strong, but I still put two tsp in a glass of water (or tea or cranberry juice) three times a day for three days. The frequency of urination was beginning to subside, but because I was taking both ACV and D-Mannose, I couldn't determine which one was working. Since the ACV was giving my stomach a hard time, I decided to stop taking it for a day or two, but kept up the D-Mannose. To my astonishment (and relief), the D-Mannose seems to have done the trick! No more frequent, painful urination! Today is Day 6 of treating my UTI on my own (Day 3 of taking ONLY D-Mannose) and so far, so good! I feel like a normal human being again! I've read that D-Mannose is only effective in powder form, but I have to disagree, at least in my case. I take two capsules first thing in the morning with a full glass of water and one capsule at night before bed and presto! No moe UTI! (Although I do want to point out that since drinking the ACV, my skin has never looked better!) I just wanted to share my experience, as so many of you have shared yours, and hope that sharing my experience might help someone, as I have been helped by this site! Good luck in searching for natural remedies and remember - don't give up! There ARE other ways to treat infection and disease besides what your doctor pushes on you. Find answers and find good health!"

[YEA]  05/31/2009: Lynn from Laguna Woods, California writes: "I read on your site to try apple cider vinegar and also another cure called D-Mannose. Wanting to nip this in the bud I tried them both simultaneously. Worked wonders. You can get D-Mannose from any health food store as well as unfiltered apple cider vinegar. I put 3 Tbl. of the vinegar in 24 oz of water, added 1 tsp. of D-Mannose and so I wouldn't gag I used some liquid stevia to soften the vinegar blow. It actually tasted good and did the trick. I drank about 3 glasses of that throughout the day and that was all it took."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, GINGER ROOT TABLETS

10/27/2011: Crystal from Charlotte, Nc writes: "Earlier this week I felt the symptons of a bladder infection coming on. Since I have no insurance, I wanted to try the natural route. I bought some cranberry tablets that did absolutely nothing, in fact it seemed to make the burning/tingling sensation more intense. After doing some reading on this website and nother website, I decided to go to GNC to get some organic apple cider vinegar. While there, I purchased the regular Bragg's ACV in addition to a ACV beverage by Bragg's containing cinnamon (I heard both ACV and cinnamon were good for bladder infections and for lowering the ph of urine, which helps to kill of bacteria associated with this infection).

I immediately drank the beverage, then went to Walmart to get some ginger root tablets for $4 (ginger is also good for keeping urine alkaline and fighting off certain bacteria like e. Coli that is often responsible for uti's). I took three that day, and felt immediate relief the next time I used the restroom. When I went to use the restroom at the very end of the day before bed, there was no longer a burning/tingling sensation and my urine was no longer foul smelling or cloudy.

The next day I took a tablespoon of undiluted ACV with lots of water to wash it down. I also took 3 more ginger root tablets throughout the course of the day and again no symptons. When I woke up today, the symptons still appear to be gone. Over the next couple of days, I think I will continue to take 1 tablespoon of ACV and maybe try oregano oil or garlic tablets, just to make sure the infection stays gone."

[YEA]  10/20/2009: Christinesr from Vaughn, Wa writes: "I battled UTI's for years on a monthly basis and had doctors give me 3-5 day doses of antibiotics which only made me resistant. I could not get the doctors to understand what they were doing! So, I searched out natural remedy's that I now swear by. This is my daily routine & when I have an infection (which has been 2x' in the last 3 years!)

Daily:
ACV pill 2x's a day
UVA URSA pills 2x's a day (there are some pills that are for balancing the urinary tract system that have this herb in it)
Vitamin C 1x's a day
Water, water, water
Keep it clean down there, especially after sex

During a UTI:
Double or triple dosage of ACV
Double UVA URSA dosage
Sit in a shallow tub with warm water and 1-2 cups of ACV. Soak for about 5 minutes.
Cut out all sugar

I have shared this with friends who now swear off doctors for UTIs."

AVOID ALCOHOL, DRINK WATER

05/14/2009: min54teresa from Fresno, CA writes: "I am currently trying to heal a bladder infection sans antibiotics. I have Hep C & try to avoid them as much as possible in an attempt to treat my system & liver as best I can. My bladder infections have always been a result of not drinking enough water daily, combined with alcohol (usually a celebration) & a 'frisky' husband. ... Enough with the celebrations already! Yes, I know alcohol is the worst for Hep C, but I allow myself to sin a couple times a year if for no other reason than to remind myself that I DO NOT need to. I've been on an over the counter paid med for a few days while drinking tons of distilled water. I only drink DISTILLED water for my Hep C & it helps. The OTC pain meds help, but the infection is still lingering. I just came upon this site & will be trying the alkaseltzer & ACV today. I'll write an update within 24 hours FYI.

Wish me luck kids!"

I finally figured out that the bladder infections were being caused by the spermicide in the contraceptive film I was using! At the same time, sex was becoming very painful. I think the chemicals in the spermicide was causing the vaginal walls to become sensitive -- raw feeling. As soon as I switched to condoms (without spermicide), no more bladder infections and no more vaginal pain. I bet spermicides may be one of the leading causes of bladder infections and women attribute them to something entirely different (like rough sex).."

WORKED TEMPORARILY

[YEA]  05/10/2011: Kk from Ny writes: "I suffer from frequent urinary tract irritations and do not want to alway go on antibiotics. I have tried almost every remedy out there from nettle tea to probiotics. For the past two episodes, I found a recommendation on the internet to drink a teaspoon of baking soda diluted in water and miraculously the burning goes away almost instantly. It might have something to do with the acid/alkaline in my system overreacting and the baking soda acts as a soother?"

Replies
[YEA]  10/28/2011: Angie from Kenosha, Wi replies: "Baking soda (1/2 tsp in 8 oz water every 2 hours at the onset of a bladder infection, repeating for 3 days) has been 100% effective for me. It changes your body's alkalinity making it inhospitable to bacteria. When I was in the throes of a terrible bladder infection, here are the steps I took and worked like a charm (and it's never gotten this bad again now that I know to start the baking soda at the first sign):

1. Take 600mg ibuprofen to reduce inflammation of the urinary tract (and I wash this down with the first dose of baking soda water).

2. Frozen pack wrapped in a towel held over urethra to reduce inflammation.

3. Doing these 2 things makes me able to urinate normally within an hour.

4. To completely kill the bacteria and keep it at bay, you must keep doing the baking soda water every 2 hours, urinate frequently, and wake up a couple of times in the middle of each night to urinate so bacteria can't breed--do this for about 3 days and you'll be good. If you start to feel signs of UTI returning on that 4th day, restart the regimen immediately and keep doing it for a couple more days (but you shouldn't have to)."

[YEA]  03/10/2010: Suzanne from Abbotsford, Bc writes: "As many have commented on here, I endured many bladder infections and took WAY too many antibiotics before knowing that they can cause more problems than they "cure". Yes, you will probably end up with yeast infections sooner or later, if you take antibiotics. Some simple preventive measures: have showers, not baths, and pee after being intimate.

If you still get one, take 1/2 tsp. baking soda in a glass of water, several times a day, if necessary, until it goes away. This alkalizes your body, and an alkalized body cannot get sick. I also take baking soda if I feel something "coming on" and it almost always goes away."

[YEA]  12/01/2009: Cheryl from Bakersfield, California writes: "I want to tell you of a cure that helped me once. In 1986 I had a bladder infection. I got them often and it would always cost me a hundred dollars to get rid of it. Fifty for the office call and fifty for the medicine that turned my urine red. My symptons were an intense feeling that I needed to urinate, but I could not. I would have intense pain and cold chills. Well I got it one day, and I didn't have the money to go to the doctor. I prayed and I heard a man's voice inside my head say: "Go in the kitchen and pour yourself nine ounces of pure water, put one level tablespoon of baking soda in it, stir and drink it down." Well, I had never in my life heard of doing that, but I obeyed the voice and did it. And pretty soon I could urinate without pain, and the water came out very soft! I only had to do that one more time and to this day I have not had another bladder infection! That's the only time that GOD spoke to me so clear! (Don't try the baking soda if you just had a bowl of chili as it might cause a reaction)."

[YEA]  09/27/2008: Donna from Bozeman, Montana writes: "I recently drank baking soda in water to try and treat a UTI that came on very suddenly. I saw somewhere online to take 1 tsp baking soda in 2 cups of water. Then an hour or two later, I took 1 tsp of the baking soda in 1 cup of water, then it said to have some chamomile tea after that. I did this, then repeated with some baking soda water (about 1 tsp per cup or cup and a half) several times over the next day or two. I was prepared to take some antibiotics that my husband had stopped taking from a recent dental procedure, because I was doubtful that the baking soda would work, but Voila! I was cured of the UTI symptoms with just the baking soda water and trying to drink/void more often.

The bonus was, I had the beginnings of a vaginal infection, and that also went away. And the sore throat/bad cold that I was fighting subsided much more quickly than I thought, once I started taking the baking soda. I'm very interested in all the varied claims, and how it can work. I worry a little about the saltiness of the baking soda, but think if I use it moderately, then supplement with folic acid and B vitamin supplements, plus increase my calcium intake, that hopefully I should be okay.

Thanks for sharing your experiences!"

I don't know about other people, but when I have a bladder infection, I end up in bed miserable for at least 1/2 of my day (in between painful, constant urinations.) Then afterwards when the antibiotics kick in and the pain is a little better, by that time I'm exhausted and miserable.

I used 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda to 8 ounces of water, and low and behold, the pain stopped within 15 minutes and I was able to urinate more normally. Just to be safe I drank plenty of water and had 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/09/2008: Suzi from Lolo, Montana writes: "Bladder Infections---for Ladies Only:

My very first infection occured on my honeymoon in 1975! The doctor seemed to be condesending and diagnosed "honeymoon cystitis". I was frightened and miserable. The antibiotics did the trick. 30 years later and quite literally, 17 trips to the emergency roomlater, plus at least 3 courses of meds a year(do the math)...I have been UTI free for over a YEAR!!! I continue to be sexually active with my husband and this is the not so simple "light bulb moment for me"!!!

Last year when my husband was gone for 3 months, I felt an infection coming on and was dazed and confused since it had been MANY months since we were intimate. The only thing I could detect that I was doing different was taking over- the counter sleeping medication(Unisom) for sleeplessness! So while the infection was clearing up I started to connect every single episode of UTI's to those darn sleeping pills.

When we would go on vacation----pills, camping--pills, honeymoon---pills, insomnia---pills! FOR THIRTY YEARS! I have had NO infections now since early 2007 and nothing has changed in the intimacy department. In fact just the freedom alone has increased our frequency! It boggles my mind to think about all the damaging courses of differnt antibiotics that my body has endured. So young or old, if you are dealing with cystitis, and use Unisom, or Compoz, or any of those sleeping pills at the drug store, etc....you may very well have the connection that I do. Just what it is in the sleeping pills that triggers bladder infections I don't know---------but I'm positive they are the culprit! "
