MSM

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/20/2007: Laura from Ferndale, MD, USA writes: "I have had Psoriatic Arthritis since I was 10 years old, & one of the worst symptoms I've had for 38 yrs now, is daily shooting nerve pains in my extremities. The good news: when I take 1000 mgs of MSM daily, the shooting pains are completely gone. If I miss a few days, they always start up again. Love this site."

MULTIPLE REMEDIES FOR ARTHRITIS

1 YEA
1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  01/27/2009: Katie from Philadelphia, PA writes: "Hi all, I absolutely love this site. I've used many of the cures (tea tree oil to avoid headlice in 5yr old daughter, turmeric and ginger tea for MRSA) and have come away with perfect results. However, I've been diagnosed with arthritis in my hip and it has been suggested to me the only way to relieve my pain is to have my hip replaced. I'm 30 yrs young, I do not want to resort to surgery just yet so naturally I've come to earthclinic for advice. I've been drinking 2tbs of raw, unfiltered ACV with 1tsp of organic honey or Agave Nectar in 8oz hot water every night for the last 3 weeks and it has done nothing for my pain. I decided to add 1 spoonful of blackstrap molasses every morning to my regime (just started this yesterday) and also added 1/2 tsp of turmeric to my ACV tonic. I was hoping for some relief this morning, but I'm still in pain and limping around. I'm going to continue with all of the above, but wanted to see if anyone had any other advice or perhaps just some words of assurance that this could eventually reduce my pain. Sincerely, Katie"

01/27/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn. replies: "Hello Katie: Sorry you are having so much pain and hope that you will try MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) to reduce or totally relieve it. It is some of the best stuff I have found for it, and don't be afraid to go above the l tsp. 3 times a day. My dosage usually ranges more like l Tbsp. 3 or 4 times per day. Of course, I am sure that good old pokeweed (poke sallet) grows in Pa. also and next fall you can also add taking poke berries along with the MSM, if you need to. Lots of luck and keep us posted. After all, we learn from each other."

01/28/2009: Katie from Philadelphia, Pa replies: "Joyce, thanks so much for the quick response! I would definetly be willing to try MSM. In what form does it come, or I should ask, what form do you find works best? I'll do some research on the net today, but I'm always apprehensive about purchasing products unless I have actual facts. Thanks again! I must say, I added fresh garlic to my nightly tonic last night and woke up this morning in less pain, which is awesome."

01/28/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello Katie: You can buy it in capsules at places like the health food stores, drugstores, etc. Personally I find it runs cheaper by buying in dry (crystals) form. If you have a farmer's co-op close to you, check there first for a well packaged container of MSM (one not easily contaminated by prospective shoppers) and l00% pure MSM. It will probably be labeled with the dosage for your horse or other 4 legged's. but if it is l00% pure it is the same stuff you would be buying anywhere else. Matter of fact the first one I bought at a co-op here only stated 99.9% pure MSM but was also labeled food and pharmaceutical quality. After I started buying it in quantity for myself and friends, it still came in the same container with the same label, but after several years, it started arriving in the same container, same contents, but with a label & dosage for human consumption. They were giving this stuff to race horses for years before I read the article on "Breakthrough On Joint Pain" in Journal of Longevity and started using it myself. This little pearl of wisdom is what sent me to the co-op to search for it. When the co-op stopped carrying that particular one, I contacted the one who supplied it to them and bought it direct. It can also be found for sale on line. So can empty capsules and the little doo-hickeys to help you fill the capsules with the MSM."

01/28/2009: Candy from Fort Madison, IA replies: "for katie with the arthritis in her hip. you might try cod liver oil. it has gotten some bad press lately, but if you go to the weston price website, you will find some very valuable info. about cod liver oil. a lady from our church raved about how much it helped her knees. hope this helps."

01/28/2009: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, CA replies: "Hi I just wanted to say that I too have experienced a lot of physical pain, especially hip pain. Am always trying to find relief. MSM is amazing but I have tried ACV to some success. I started working with H2O2 about five days ago and am finding amazing relief. According to my Chinese medicine/ acupuncturist, all my pain is due to phlegm and dampness. The H2O2 is pulling so much out it's crazy. As a result, I feel amazing relief. Give it a try. Go to the H2O2 pages and read about it. I drink it according to the plan layed out in that section but, also gargle with it. I only use the 3% from the store."

01/28/2009: Robin from Rocky Ridge, Oh replies: "Oh please, please research your options before having joint replacement surgery! Check out a guy by the name of Pete Egoscue, I believe at www.egoscue.com. He is the author of several books as well. This guy started out as a physical therapist or something along that order. He started researching kinesiology and other movement methods and has come up with a way to overcome arthritic conditions.

You see, many cases of arthritis are alignment problems. Our muscles have memory and can loose that memory to do a specific job in a few days or less of bed rest from a cold, injury, etc. When you are back up and around, often times the wrong muscles start doing the wrong job. Over time, this pulls joints out of place and a rubbing of the cartilage starts. After awhile, the cartilage is worn to nothing and pain sets in. What most people don't know is, cartilage can regrow if the proper muscles are re-taught the proper job and joints are pulled back into place, eliminating the wearing away of the cartilage and a rejuvination of the joint takes place.

This guy helped Jack Nicholson (the famous golfer) when he was set to retire because of severe pain. One day he was to be in a tournament and was about to announce his retirement due to unbearable pain when an associate of his convinced him to try Egoscue out. He got an appointment that day and within a very short time on his first visit he had reduced his pain to the point that he made it to the tournament later that day. He then continued treatment with Egoscue until he made a complete recovery.

The last time I checked, you could find the simple movements meant to correct the alignment problems you suffer from on his website. I would suggest getting his books as a guide and for further research before you decide to go through with this surgery. All you would be out is some time and a few bucks for the books. It would be worth it if it saved you a complicated, painful surgery and rehabilitation if a simple movement plan could remedy the problem. Blessings, Robin"

OIL PULLING

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/16/2007: Maya from Singapore, Singapore writes: "Hi. I only discovered about oil pulling while browsing the web on information on how to cure me of my skin disorder (keratosis pillaris). I read a posting done by this lady who SWEARS by oil pulling and its remarkable effects! I tried it just yesterday and was shocked at how fast results can be observed! I'm suffering from a knee injury due to my active lifestyle and since i'm not exactly young, i don't recover too easily. I've been having a bad knee for weeks now. But when i did my first oil pulling yesterday, i got IMMEDIATE results! My knee felt so light and i was able to do squats with no problems! I'm really a sceptic so i was finding ways to credit the improved knee flexibility to other 'health practices' of mine. But when my mom tried it later that night (she sufferes from acute arthritis), she too said that her joints felt remarkably better! i did it again this morning and later today, my heart was racing. Also, i feel a bit of discomfort in my private region. I don't know if it could be because i had an infection before and it was probably in the process of healing... i'll continue the OP and see what happens! I'm a convert!"

PINEAPPLE

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  11/06/2009: Pahlee from Phila, Pa writes: "I just heard today that someone said that fresh pineapple was good for arthritis, they didn't say how, but was looking to purchase the pineapple. My question is, have you heard of such? What do you do with the fruit once it it is purchased? Will check back for an answer."

11/07/2009: Magdowser from Hendersonville, , Nc replies: "Pahlee, from what I understand, pinapple has the enzyme bromelain in it. I heard that if you take it on a full stomach it acts as a digestive enzyme, if on an empty stomach, it acts as an anti-inflamatory and that's how it helps with the arthritis. (Hope I don't have that backwards!) MAG"

RAISINS SOAKED IN GIN

2 YEA

[YEA]  02/22/2009: Anonymous from Iowa writes: "Hello,

I'm going to share a remedy which is amazing. There are hospitals that have actually began testing this to see why it works so well for people with Arthritis.

1 box of white raisins (golden raisins) - can't be brown - have to be the golden raisins
1 bottle of gin (can be a very cheap bottle b/c you throw it out)

Put the raisins in a glass jar, and cover with the gin for 2 weeks (in a refrigerator). Drain the gin. Refrigerate. Eat 9 a day. They taste terrible, but if you follow them with a Ritz cracker, you can endure. Within a month, the pain should be gone!

My Grandma had such bad arthritis in her neck, she would have to get shots every couple of months. She did traction daily, and took a lot of pain medicine. She heard about this home remedy on a call in radio show. They were asking people to call in with old home remedies. They had over 200 calls for this remedy alone. She decided to try it.

After a month, she did not have any pain, and didn't need the medicine, shots or the traction device anymore. Her doctors were amazed!

She takes them everyday! She hasn't missed in 15 years! When she travels, she puts them on ice in a baby jar. Good luck! I hope it works for you!"

Helps shoulder pain, and over all over body pain from arthritis. One of my students was in a wheel chair, and after treatment can walk with a cane."

READER COMMENTS

12/30/2008: EJ from Middleboro, MA, USA writes: "Arthritis in cats: My 12 year old Domestic short hair cat has been developing arthritis in her front elbows for the past few years. I don't want to give her any prescription or aspirin for pain, knowing what the side effects are. I'm looking for a natural alternative. I'm giving her some Glucosomine and Chondroitin treats daily. Some days she is better than others. I was reading on the internet about a product called synflex for pets and wonder if anyone has used this and what the results were. She eats Wellness brand canned food and has for years. She's not overweight (10 lbs), is indoor all day and has no stairs to contend with. She's still jumping up and down from the bed and playing periodically. I'm trying to keep her healthy and pain free. Any suggestions would be great. thanks!"

11/07/2009: Alice from Shingle Springs, Ca, U.S.A. replies: "If you have a juicer, juice cruciferous family veggies like broccoli, kale, cabbage, and mix that with canned cat food. You can add fish oil and nettle powder and even safflower blossoms (health food store) turmeric and garlic oil as these all inhibit the inflammation. Pigs feet broth is also helpful for it's chondroitins which nourish joint cartiledge. Fixed my dog's arthritis in 2-3 weeks."

TURMERIC

6 YEA
1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  10/17/2009: P.R. from Pineville, Nc writes: "Turmeric for Crohn's disease & Arthritis

I started taking turmeric for arthritis and got my mother who is 69 taking turmeric pills as well, 600 mg per day in one pill. If I run out of pills for longer than 4-5 days my knuckles start hurting and it's hard to bend my index finger. I make sure I don't run out any longer.

My mom has been faithful about taking the turmeric pills and just recently mentioned how she thinks it is helping with her Crohn's disease. She had emergency surgery in 1992 for an obstruction and they removed a large portion of small intestines and colon. It was due to Crohn's disease but they didn't diagnose it until after the surgery.

Since the surgery in 1992, my mom has narrowed down what foods bother her to eat. She cannot digest any kind of fat. Red meats, fried foods, nothing with fat digests and if she eats anything with fat she gets bad diarrhea sometimes all night long.

Since she has been taking the turmeric she has noticed that when she cheats and eats pizza or french fries (knowing full well what she will endure later after eating those fatty foods) she has found that she isn't bothered by the fat now and doesn't get the bad diarrhea.

She does take 2 different over the counter digestive enzyme pills with fattening meals to help digest the fat but she has always taken those pills. But now with taking the turmeric pills she can eat more of what she wants to eat without any of the consequences which is a blessing since she is so thin.

Hope this helps someone else. Reading this site has helped me and my family out tremendously. I encourage everyone to give feedback. You never know when it might help someone."

[YEA]  01/07/2008: Linda from Eugene, OR writes: "I just want to thank the people who set up this website. I was experiencing painful arthritis in both shoulders and I found your site and read about using Turmeric. That was several weeks ago and now I can truly say that taking the Turmeric has changed everything! The pain is nearly gone. I still have some slight discomfort, but nothing like I was going through before the Turmeric. I am praising God for His wonderful herbs and for inspiring all of the folks who write in with their testimonies. I take two 400 mg capsules three times a day and one 500 mg ginger capsule 3 times a day. This site is the best!!! Plus, I have contacted several people on the site who were so helpful and responded with great advice and encouragement. Health and blessings to all."

[YEA]  12/31/2007: Charles from Saint Cloud, Florida writes: "I started taking turmeric powder about 2 and a half years ago, after seeing on a famous news show that it was one of the main ingredients in a pill that was able to reduce your antioxidant level to zero. I did a little research and saw there was little Alzhiemers in India, where it is a big part of the diet. I was having a bit of a memory problem at the time. Anyways, after about 3 months of taking a tablespoon a day, I noticed my shoulder pain went away. My doctor had said he could do nothing for it, as it was arthitis and that he had it also. Now I notice that I don't seem too concern about memory and I have regained some interest in reading articles. I have had several, 3, cases of skin cancer in the last year, hopefully its due to the years of living in a tropical climate. I tried to stop taking it a couple of times to see what would happen and my shoulder pain seem to start to come back. So apparently it did not cure it but stopped the pain and I am now able to shoot basketball or any other activity. I put it in water and stir it up and swallow the half a cup very quickly as I do not like the taste. I order it 5 pounds at a time and keep a 10 pound supply on hand. Be careful it stains things yellow."

08/31/2008: Pat from Hartsville, SC replies: "I would like to purchase tumeric in bulk form for arthritis. Where is this available? Since the news came out with the warning that many supplements purchased online contain lead and undesirable fillers, what is a recommended site to purchase supplements?"

EC: It really depends on the brand. Whole Foods seems to do great research before they'll supply supplements in their store. Unfortunately they don't sell supplements online. GNC's own line of supplements, on the other hand, contain plenty of fillers. For example, their turmeric capsules have 2 filler ingredients, one of which may render it completely useless! [YEA]  06/21/2007: Aaron from Cape Coral, Florida writes: "I tried the TURMERIC remedy for boils about 4 days ago, initially with little hope it would work, but in a state of desperation, since this was my THIRD boil in less than 6 weeks, and I had 2 more starting! I went out as soon as I finished reading all of the testimonials on your site, and bought a bottle of Turmeric capsules from my local GNC. That night I took three 500mg caps with dinner, and another 4 capsules before going to bed. (If a teaspoon is good, a tablespoon is better!) The next morning the boil on my stomach, which was a dark purple golf ball radiating excruciating pain the night before, was now a light purple golf ball that was starting to drain, and the pain had gone down by 80 to 90%!

In addition, one of the new boils that was just starting, (a tiny painful pimple,) started to heal, and the other one, slightly larger, while it didn't go away, it stopped growing, and with 72 hours it too drained (really like a normal pimple, only thicker discharge and more painful.)

It's now been about 4 days, and while the large boil is still draining (the core came out yesterday) and is still very tender, it is healing and no other boils are starting.

BUT!

The big BONUS is this: The arthritis in my shoulder that I've been suffering with for the last year, is gone, and even more exciting, I have been dealing with Heal Spurs (Plantar Fasciitis) for about 2 years, and have been suffering TREMENDOUS pain in my foot, every day, all day.

Within 24 hours of taking the Turmeric, my feet have COMPLETELY stopped hurting!!!I plan to continue taking at least one capsule a day indefinitely as a preventative for recurring boils, and as an apparent remedy for my Heal Spurs!!! The real miracle here is that I don't even believe in natural remedies! Thanks so much for the great advice!!!"
