Side Effects from Common Home Remedies

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda
Posted by Kkk (Secaucus, Nj) on 05/08/2011

hi ted!

I've been using baking soda and Apple Cider Vinegar from last 10 days for my funtional cyst (1.7 and 1 cm in each ovary). Before that I was taking just Apple Cider Vinegar for 20 days. Now the problem is I am feeling dull pain in my stomach(upper) and sides of my core. I feel better when I lay down, cant walk or stand for very long. Is it because I am taking baking soda with acv? because there was no such pain when I was takng Apple Cider Vinegar alone.

Please reply soon, thank you so much.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Hi. I just read an Earth Clinic report on your site (dated 11/21/2006) that casts doubt on whether H2O2 therapy might cause gastrointestinal problems. I just wanted to give you some feedback on the subject, based on personal experience. I've been on H2O2 therapy for a few weeks - long enough to see a few subtle changes for the better - but one down-side that I've also noticed is that I get very severe reflux as a result. My better half started the therapy at the same time as me, and he takes the same dose of H2O2 as me, but he hasn't had any reflux problems.

There's one main difference between the two of us however - I had a pretty nasty gastric reflux problem to start with (had it for years) whereas he doesn't have a pre-existing condition of this kind. So while I'm not saying that H2O2 actually causes gastric problems, I am saying that it might irritate pre-existing problems of that type in some people - particularly if the problem is already fairly severe to start with. I find it helps if I take my reflux medication during or before taking my daily H2O2 dose, and I also get better results if I don't let my stomach stay empty for too long after ingesting H2O2. It doesn't stop the reflux completely, unfortunately, but it seems to reduce the severity quite a bit.

This is the exact same scenario with me and my husband. Have you tried taking 1/4 tsp baking soda with your H2O2? I had the same issue until I started doing that. So are you saying you don't wait the full 3 hours after you take the H2O2, before you eat? I'm thinking of trying that--maybe wait 2.5 hours, to see how I do...

Psyllium
Posted by Tm76 (Dublin, Ireland) on 04/17/2011

ok just started taking psyllium husks capsules yesterday, 2 an hour before each meal, have spent today in bed with terrible cramps, diarrhoea, and now vomiting, thought it was a gastric bug, but not sure after reading some posts here, drank plenty of water, does anyone recommend I continue with it?

It would be interesting to know why you were taking the psyllium husk capsules..... Constipation, I suppose.... I have never tried them but the only thing I can think about is that you took too much and had a terrible diarrhea! You say that you took 2 an hour before every meal but how many meals a day do you take? Does that mean that you took 6? It might have been too much! What I do in case of constipation is to start with a little bit and wait to see if it works. Sometimes I eat prunes, for example, but never a lot or else I can have the exact same problems (I have never vomited though...).

I started with 1500mg once a day. Empty stomach in the morning.

1-Nausea (not too bad) 15 minutes after

2-Sleeplessness and feeling some "electricity" or my "blood running" inside my body .

3- My stomach making a lot of noise. but I think now it happen after I ate bread.

Now I am taking 3 pills a day 4500mg and sleep like a baby and no more nauseas

that is awesome that you started slow and work your way up. My dad is almost 70 and can take up to 9 a day... My husband 46 is also at 9 a day after he broke his arm 2 yrs ago and then again last year after a chainsaw injury to his leg. No side effects... But he was also taking lots of d (his blood test was really low) and lots of vitamin c and I made him drink tons of water every day. I have heard it is really really important to drink lots of water. I have the book the miracle of msm and it is an awesome read- actually I have 2 copies and I loan one out ;-) I also have a large MSM article I printed out from an online website but I don't think I'm allowed to post the link to that... It is said to be the official website for msm. I printed it out almost 3 years ago and it is dogeared beyond belief. I reread it all the time at breakfast, in the bathroom etc. Because you forget how many amazing uses it has!!! Wish there was more studies on breastfeeding and pregnancy and taking it. I know most people just say it's a supplement but I always err on the side of caution so I will have to wait until I am done nursing.

Mary, I think that you are supposed to start with a smaller dose of MSM and not take it in an empty stomach. It didn't do much for me (I went up to maybe 5g a day) but I will try an MSM drink soon which also contains glucosamin and chondroitin.

J: Just a few tips.

The fungal infection produces aldehyde as a byproduct of it's metabolism and is quite toxic. Aldehyde is like a very potent alcohol so to best detoxify take the MolyB away from other supplements and also take Zinc & Niacin/Niacinamide together. You will wish to reduce the MolyB because it inhibits Copper. I always take 50mg Zinc w/ 1.5 mg Copper, and 500mcg MolyB at another time.

Take the Vit-C & MSM together as these are synergistic.

Lots of info on Candida and Fungal infections in the "Ailments" section at top E.C. page.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda

Two of us experienced the same thing after taking acv bicarbonate of soda. We had shortness of breath, almost fainting-like. Also, there was tremendous tiredness, hard to walk or do things. Any moment, we felt the heart might stop and die.

We want to ask Ted who recommended this remedy: why these happen?

Multiple Remedies
Posted by Melba (Tallahassee, Fl Usa) on 02/28/2011

For the past two weeks I have been drinking the borax, shilajit (fulvic acid), L-gutamine, and apple cidar vinegar in a 32 oz glass of water throughout the day. Hoping to draw out heavy metals and fluoride, and the l-glutamine for yeast. 4 days on, 3 days off as was suggested on here.

The third day of the second week I had tremendous anxiety. Crying, tremendous worry, racing thoughts. I had to stay home from work because my heart was racing so much. Anyone who has had anxiety knows the feeling of all the muscles being tight, yet feeling like electricity shooting through them.

Could this be a symptom of detox????

For Melba, any even the slowest detox will agrevate you anxiety. I am in the same shoes for 10 years. Your body is over sensitive and you have to handle it very sensible too. Slow down and take your time with any detox......

I began my H2O2 therapy three days ago, diluted 10 drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in 200 ml. of mineral water. I noticed a feeling of cut skin on the palm of my hands, one of them being an actual cut. Has anyone heard of this being a side effect?

Posted by Michelle (Cambridge, Cambs, Uk) on 02/28/2011

Dear fxgirl, in reply to your feeling of cut hands. I think you may have dropped some undiluted H2O2 onto your hands, even as little sprinkles. This will cause stinging and white skin patches, that feel like cuts. I have done this to myself! Just try not to spill, and wash hands after using H2O2 just in case.

Hi Michelle, thank you for your answer. Actually, I know very well how to handle H2O2 because I've always used it externally, so spilling it is not an option. Maybe some other thing is wrong...

Dear FXGirl, looks like I'm the clumsy one! I hope you find out what it is, because I keep recommending H2O2 to people, and also this fantastic Earth Clinic. Please let us know if you uncover the cause. My gratitude to everyone who posts on this site, especially the founders, and regular stellar advisors.

Hopefully! This cut skin feeling has appeared in my lower eyelid, where the veins are now more visible. Wherever it appears, the veins are more visible.

Epsom Salt

WARNING!

Hi I have been trying out an Epsom Salt remedy for my wifes bladder pain and carpal tunnel with some success. The dose was a quarter of a teaspoon of Epsom Salts 3 times a day plus using a 20% mix with water as a body spray. The method was working, however my wife started getting progressively worse hot flushes(up to every half hour), night sweats and headaches after a week. We have had to stop this treatment and all symptoms caused have gone in 4 days. I believe it was the sulphur content causing this problem (I wonder if MSM would be the same). I have sent off for some magnesium chloride and will try that as I believe this remedy was working well.

Thanks:)

We don't have Epsom salts here but I use magnesium chloride (Nigari) in my bath once in a while. I am in the menopause now (I suppose your wife is as well) but it hasn't given me any hot flushes.... Still everybody is different, some women have a lot, so far I only have a little bit which is quite nice as the winter here has been very cold! On the other hand I have heavy back pain and that is the reason why I have been trying MSM and magnesium chloride in my bath but so far nothing has helped!

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Carol In Nashville Tn (Nashville, Tn, Usa) on 01/24/2011

I started taking H2O2 (35% food grade) 3 drops in 4-6 oz water 3x per day and increased 1 drop per day (I had to increase water amount too) to 14 drops. I have stayed on 14 drops 3x per day for 2 weeks (plan is 3 weeks then decrease back down to 3 drops 3x per day)I have started having pain in my lower abdomen that has gotten to be quite painful. I actually took a day off today as the pain is really concerning me. The only thing I can compare it to is when I had a colonoscopy 4 years and they removed a polyp or 2, I could feel a minor pain then and this current pain is in that area and much more panful than when they removed the polyps. Can anyone (Ted) advise what to do fo this pain? Thanks for your help. I have been reading many things on this site and am amazed at some of the testimonials.

I have the same problem--colon spasms, when I drink anything with caffeine. If you're drinking caffeine as well as doing the H2O2 therapy, you may want to cut down on the caffeine. I can't use apple cider vinegar for the same reason--it's a simulant :(

ACV, Baking Soda and Lemon Juice
Posted by Lori (Delta, Co) on 11/10/2010

I started taking the lemon w/BS for over a month ago and I felt like I was getting a funny taste in my mouth like metal and it felt like a coating was all inside my mouth. And Saturday I woke up and my tongue had a white coating on it and the insides of my mouth all around my cheeks inside my lips and the way back of my tongue felt like it had a coating and was red and swollen almost like a rash my tongue underneath felt inflamed and tight. I felt terrible like I had been trying to catch a real bad cold. I never had this happen before. I started immediately taken more of the BS and ACV in very warm water and sipped on it. My throat started to clear up and by Tuesday I felt normal again. I'm thinking it was all getting rid of candida or??? I thought I might have mixed too many remedies. But I still take the lemon w/BS, blackstrap molasses, lecithin, e and d, and occasionaly sea salt. Any idea what it might of been could it of been ridding candida?

If you already have systemic candida, it could have been a die off reaction. If it is getting better then you can keep doing that. I have been improving with my candida; I don't even do the molasses since it's another sugar.

WARNING!

After reading a number of posts concerning side effects experienced from taking ACV, baking soda, BSM, honey, borax, etc. I am amazed that so many people would ask, "Is this normal?" NO it isn't! If it makes you sick or gives you a rash, headaches, heart palpitations, or whatever, it is NOT normal and you shouldn't be using it, no matter how healthy it's supposed to be or how good it makes other people feel. Please listen to what your body is trying to tell you instead of relying on all the hype.

Lemon Bicarbonate

Hello,

I am trying the lemon bicarbonate cure for a week now: one lemon squeezed adding 1/2 teaspoon and adding water to one glass. I have beginning rosacea and found out my ph urine levels were under 6. But after taking it one quarter of an hour later I get this headache every time. Can anyone please tell me what this means? Maybe it is not good for me

Thank you, Janice

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda

Both me and my girlfriend have tried the acv with baking soda and we both end up with diarrhea very quickly after taking it... When I take the acv by itself in water no problems..but when i combine the baking soda it goes right through me... maybe you can help... there doesn't seem to be anyone else having this problem

EC: A few people have reported side effects of diarrhea from Apple Cider Vinegar alone! Make sure to read both sections on our Remedy Side Effects page.

I just began taking baking soda and lemon juice (I also take ACV separately), before finding this site.

However I took way too much apparently (about 2 TB of each with a lot of water), and experienced the same severe diarrhea as you described. Which is odd since supposedly it's supposed to prevent that.

I'm guessing the reaction is that strong because it's destroying so much bad bacteria/fungi that the body reacts by flushing it out.

get your levels checked before you change your meds. i had sleep problems too, but i made sure i drank the mixture no later than 2pm every day and after a few days i noticed a difference. i too have thyroid issues and my levels have not changed from this drink.

Multiple Remedies

Recently I have gotten a couple of small cuts or nicks. Very small. They should have bled a bit but stopped after a minute of pressure, but they didn't. It took a few minutes with a tightly wrapped bandage. -Which got soaked. It wasn't frightening, as I said they were small nicks. But I wonder what if I really got hurt.

What I want to know is, is something ,or a combination of things, that I am taking making my blood thinner? Here is a list of what I take daily.

2 tsp dietary supplement oil
2 caps mineral dietary supplement
2 Tbs tea dietary supplement
1 Tbs raw local honey
2 Tbs ACV
1 Tbs coconut oil
1 Tbs black strap molasses
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp cinnamon

I'l leave it to wiser folk to advise on which of those may be contributing to your blood thinning, but I wanted to let you know that vitamin K will help blood coagulation, so you might want to increase your intake of it. This page from the Linus Pauling Institute has lots of good info on Vitamin K (which is also important for bone health), and lists some food sources of it:
