Hi everyone, I would like to know how drinking water wit Acv works when you're trying to lose weight. I've been drinking 1-2 tspn every morning and night b4 bed for the past 2 months but it's def not working. Can someone pls tell me what am doing wrong or suggest a better remedy. Since I been taking the Acv and water I only feel lighter like a real Detox but I seem to have a bigger appetite. I get hungry real fast from drinking acv & water, maybe it just dosnt work for me. Need advice soon, thanks.

I have used ACV every single day for about a year now for aches, pains and lowering my blood pressure. I haven't lost an ounce (unfortunately) during all the time I've taken it. I believe its weight-loss claims are 'greatly exaggerated'.

In fact, one week when I skipped two days, I lost 2 lbs! It made me wonder if it has the opposite effect on me.

Kelly from Cambridge, Ma - Kelly, I don't even think the fantastic apple cider vinegar will help our weight (and other health issues) unless our diets change in ways also. So many people these days consume what they consider 'food' and it comes out of a box, goes into the microwave etc when we all know this highly processed, high sodium 'food' is not really FOOD! You didn't say what you eat or go into any details but could this be the problem? Are you consuming plenty of fresh fruit/veges and drinking 2L water each day or eating processed goods?

Hi Cat - Obviously, I wouldn't expect ACV or any other product to help me lose weight on its own. That's just common sense.

I actually eat very clean - no sugar and no processed foods. I put about a half teaspoon of raw honey in my morning coffee, and that's it for the day in terms of anything sweet. And, I was drinking tons of water every day a decade before it became popular to do so.

I have always struggled with my weight (10 pounds, give or take). I am the type who gains five pounds just walking by a bakery. It seems it's a genetic-type curse. I had my thyroid checked years ago. Everything was normal, according to my MD. And, I certainly don't live a sedentary life either. I am always on the go.

My point in posting to the previous thread, was that I found it interesting that when I didn't take the ACV for a couple of days, I lost a bit of weight. (Keeping in mind that I'd taken the ACV every day for a year or more.)

I'll continue with the ACV for its other benefits, but my posture concerning its weight loss properties remain - I feel they are 'greatly exaggerated'. But then, as with many things, what works for one may not work the same for another.

If we are doing the 'right things' and they aren't producing results, I've found I have to tweak it...some intermittant fasting (Eat Stop Eat site is informative), sometimes changing up exercise, the Emotional Freedom Technique (Nick Ortner, or Gary Craig), and for those who know, spiritual balance along with physical and emotional weight release is a component. Stubborn issues often present physically but the source is something holding on on another level, that once addressed and released, the body follows. I eat emotionally, and when I face what that issue(s) is, and make amends, or correct my faulty thinking, whatever my body is holding onto for insulation against pain also lets go.

Maybe it's the dosage. I've just started this myself but when I was reading up on it, it said to take 1-2tbsp not tsp. Idk tho, just a suggestion. Do you take it with or without mixing into water?

First let me say that all apple cider vinegars are not equal!! The only one that "heals" is: ORGANIC RAW-UNFILTERED APPLE CIDER VINEGAR WITH "THE MOTHER"

This might sound rather strange.... But this is the real stuff... Trust me! You can buy it at a natural food store or at hip supermarket. I have found it at chain stores as well.

Having grown up in Woodstock N.Y. in the 1960's, I was part of the pack that used this to cure everything from sour stomach to losing weight to getting rid of yeast over growth as well as healing your gums and as a healthy hair rinse. It is also great for dog and cat hot spots and other pet skin problems. Plus... it will actually benefit them if they lick it!

Janet, I have read a lot on this site about ACV with the mother and if I understand well "the mother" is something that floats in the vinegar. Well, here in Europe I have never, ever seen it anywhere and I travel to quite a few countries. ACV is sold in the supermarkets, pharmacies, health food stores but... Nowhere have I have seen any "mother". So, what are we to do? I just use organic one as it is either that or else the regular one, I assure you! Is the "mother" so beneficial... No idea as I have never seen it but when you don't have the choice either you ditch the stuff either you make do with the second best! Why we have no "mother"? My guess is as good as anyone else's, maybe here they think that the "mother" it is something highly dangerous.... That is usually now the reason to ban something!

Fransisca from Zug, Switzerland, "The Mother" is referring to [organic] Apple Cidar Vinegar, it's raw and unfiltered which is why you have the floaters. I know it's available on amazon and a million other online shops, I'd send you a link but I'm in the U. S. and doubt that any sites I use would be helpful to you. I'm not sure if it's available in Europe if not just look for the same parameters: organic, raw, unfiltered and it should do the trick.

I don't know where Zug is. But if you live near the border with France you can find one in a store called Satoriz, it is unpasteurised and I believe it has the mother on it. In fact, while I was writing this post I went to my cupboard and checked, it doesn't say anything about it but it definetely has the cloudy stuff.

You can find it here:

FLAVOR, WEIGHT LOSS, ENERGY, PAIN RELIEF.

I never thought I could get used to the flavor of apple cider vinegar (GAG!! ). So I got a small juice glass and put 1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and fill it to the top with organic apple juice or apple cider. Funny thing happened. After a week I noticed the flavor not bothering me so much. I use a shot glass instead of a juice glass now and the flavor doesn't bother me at all.. In fact I kind of like it (and my daughter used to laugh at me gagging over it). You DO become accustomed to the flavor. In fact it just tastes like apple juice with a "bite" now.

I also have noticed another funny thing. I had a really bad night the other night during a thunder lightening storm and only got an hour's sleep. I woke up expecting to be exhausted all day. At midnight that night I realized had a super high energy day, got tons of stuff done and I STILL wasn't tired! I attribute my high energy (even with no sleep) to the ACV. It gives amazing energy!

And for weight loss: I was losing weight with it when I took it at LEAST 20 minutes BEFORE meals. When I started taking it AFTER meals, my weight loss stopped, I even gained a pound. So whoever wrote that if you take it BEFORE you LOSE, AFTER you GAIN.. Was absolutely right. I take my first shot with juice before I take my shower. Then by the time breakfast is ready, it's been 30 minutes or longer that it has had to go to work on the fat stores. And watch how your clothes fit, not the scale! I lost a full size, but only 4 pounds in the first week. If you watch the scale, you'll be disappointed... Fat doesn't weigh much, and you burn it off with vinegar.

My last benefit I noticed was my joints don't ache! I have rheumatoid and this stuff is just amazing. Flexibility and pain reduction. This is truly a miracle when you consider it is less than $5 a bottle and it lasts a long time. _____'s is the only vinegar I buy. Be sure to shake well before drinking and DO NOT refrigerate. It will keep for YEARS in the cupboard.

What is "the mother"? And what brand of vinegar is it? I use plain apple cider vinegar, two shots classes every morning with coffee chasers.

EC: Most likely a raw and organic brand which all grocery stores carry these days.

For an explanation on "the mother" see this page on Earth Clinic.

Gaining a pound is easily attributable to fluctuations in water weight.

I think the takeaway here, is that ACV is effective at appetite suppression, or making you sated earlier, which I have definitely noticed if I drink ACV in water 30-60 minutes before a meal. I find it completely eliminates carb/sugar cravings; to the point that even thinking about candy or ice cream is slightly off-putting.

If you were to phrase it in a rule, I would suggest "ACV before meals contributes to weight loss by decreasing food intake. ACV after a meal doesn't have the same effect, though it can blunt your insulin response."

I'm just trying to shed some fat from my belly. My solution and you might think I'm crazy, I drink it once a day: about 2 ounces of Apple Cider Vinegar I a 32 oz. Cup

I add one package of grape koolaid mix- 4 artificial sweetners, fill the cup almost to to top with cold water and add ice. You taste the grape coolaid with a bite from the Apple Cider Vinegar but you can drink it like regular koolaid.

I'd try to dilute the ACV with just water (2tbs in 8oz of water x3 a day). Adding cool-aid to me sounds counterproductive with all those empty calories. If anything try to add some honey to the concoction, but try not to go over 2 tbs. The key for weightloss for me is frequent meals high in protein low in carbs w/ lots of greens and water in between.

Have you heard of Stevia? If you search Amazon you can usually find flavored Stevia, I am sure they would have grape (especially since they have flavors like root beer). It is healthier artificial sweetner, thus without all the bad press. I currently have cherry flavor and vanilla flavor; the former I add to lemonade, and the latter I add to coffee and some tea.

Hello! I ran across ACV for weight loss last year when I was desperately trying to lose weight before my trip overseas. I read tons of testimonials and went right out the next day and bought the ACV. A little about my weight: I'm female, 23, and in decent shape. I am 5'7'' and at the time weighed in at about 160. I have never been obese but am VERY curvy and had a spare tire I wasn't proud of. I was pretty active, but a total slouch at an exercise routine (usually I just walk places, or bike)

Either way, I was a teacher, and I showed my friend at work this site. We went on the ACV together. We first tried the 2 teaspoons in 16 oz cold water (I drink NOTHING but water!!! ) but found it to be a little too gross. Since we're both fans of tea, we tried around 2 teaspoons in 8oz, with a bit of honey, served warm. Delicious! Tastes a bit like warm apple cider. The pounds started dropping off. It wasn't that I tried, but I was subconsciously eating less, of healthier foods. I found more energy as well! I lost eleven pounds the first month!!! One of my favorite stories is the "candy" story I like to tell skeptics of ACV. I am a HUGE fan of candy and eat it waaaay too much. During my "slim down for Sweden" I used to eat my favorite candy (won't mention the name but it's our favorite peanut butter mixed with chocolate cup! ) all the time. I had a teacher friend who would give me this treat in exchange for watching her class--I could never turn them down. Well, one morning I hadn't eaten breakfast yet (while on the ACV breakfast was always something healthy; fruit or an egg, etc) this morning I didn't eat anything but was sipping my usual cup of ACV. When the friend brought me my chocolate and peanut butter cup, I gobbled it down. And immediately felt barf. I couldn't believe it. After the "flushing" effect of the ACV, the sugars, the fats, the oils... Everything in that candy suddenly had a whole new taste.

ACV is amazing for awakening your senses to what you put in your body. I usually ate both "cups" in less than a second, but I found myself unable to finish the first one, and gave the second one to one of the kids in class. By the time Sweden hit, I had lost 20 pounds and looked SEXY!!! I wrote this testimonial to re-motivate myself (slacked off this year on ACV) and to hopefully motivate others. This stuff really does work! And you don't even have to be patient to see results, just give it like a week and you'll feel clothes fitting better. Oh, and I am an extremist and overdo EVERYTHING, so I've since doubled the amount of ACV I use. Sometimes I pour a nice tall glass of OJ and put about 2 tablespoons in that. The acid of the OJ completely obliterates the taste of ACV. And boy, the combo REALLY gives you an energy jolt in the morning. Try it as an alternative to coffee or an energy drink! And good luck in everyone's efforts. :)

I just wanted to be clear as I want to try this. Do you put 2 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in a 8oz tea, like green tea or 8oz of water and drink it like a tea? I was doing the cold or room temp acv/water mix as intructed on the b----- Apple Cider Vinegar bottle, but apart from burning and feeling nasty I saw no health benefits at all. I also started drinking tea throughout the day and this alone makes me urinate often. I wonder if combining my green tea with 2tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar would be beneficial. Hope you reply.

What worked for me and weight loss with ACV is this...

mixing 2 tablespoons ACV with mother in 8 oz of lukewarm water and sipping this through the day in between meals.

It helps you stay/feel full so you eat less during meals and hence lose weight.

It also is very good for your gut with bacteria, etc so it is beneficial in losing weight.

Additionally, I stopped eating rice, potatoes and friend foods. Stuck mainly to veggies and lean protein with occasional piece of fruit twice weekly.

You must change your eating habits to lose weight with ACV and incorporate some form of walking 45 mins daily to get the body moving.

This is in reply to "Ank" from Virginia regarding ACV & weight loss. As with any new supplement, the results will vary from individual to individual. In the case of ACV it is a slow process that changes your metabolism which encourages weight loss. Typically one would expect to yield results in 3 - 6 months for weight loss. It is the long term benefits that you should desire by using ACV, you know that stuff you dont actually see. If you are looking for a quick 7 - 10lb drop then ACV is probably not your best choice. Best of luck to you.

Firstly my sincere regards n thanks to all of u for this truly amazing site. I've been reading for almost 3 months n at last started taking ACV (ORGANIC WITH MOTHER) 2 tsp daily to begin with then 2 weeks ago started cooking with Virgin Coconut Oil (ORGANIC) NOW I'VE added Blackstrap Molasses (organic unsulphered). I feel nice small changes like no muscle/joint pains less acidity mood is cheerful, most of the time I feel fresh n alert, but I seem to be more constipated, n gaining weight, looks like as if I have swelling especially on my face n neck. Please advice if I need to do anything differently. Once again THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

Try taking the BSM first thing in the morning. That usually helps ease constipation. Or else try drinking more water, eating fruit first thing in the morning or a cup of tea or warm water. If nothing helps try a few prunes every day. I suppose that after a while your body will get used to the new diet. By the way, I never take ACV for a long time in a row. I take it for a while, then I stop as I have read about people on this site who had health problems.

There is something about the coconut oil that does NOT cause a person to gain weight. I don't know if it is because it helps the thyroid, or if it is because it is a medium chain fatty acid, or what, but I have been taking about 3 TABLESPOONS (not teaspoons mind you) of it every single day for over a year now, and I have not gained a pound. I have not lost weight, like other people, but I have not gained either. I am 5'6" (49 yo woman) and weigh 150-155 depending on water weight. Never up or down since starting.... And nothing else has changed calorically. If you will google VCO (virgin coconut oil) you can read the specs on it, and why some people have lost weight using it. I just feel better since I started taking it, and my eyelashes are amazing. When I put mascara on now it is total overkill. Lol.

Since I drink it now daily, the organic ACV, I am bloated and 2 sizes bigger in the evening. Has anyone experienced that too, meaning getting severely bloated? I wear in the morning size 10 jeans/shorts and later in the afternoon, I need to change to my biggest size I had, size 14. It also feels like a thunderstorm in my belly; this was NOT the case prior to the Apple Cider Vinegar.

ACV causes candida yeast die off in the body, it's good for you and bloating is natural/normal part of it. It should subside from what I understand. You may want to read on candida, it's supposed to be rather common overgrowth in our bodies with regards to eating higher starch/sugar based diets.

Hello,

This is my very first post on EC so I hope I've posted this in the right place. I'm so happy to find this web site! I started reading about using ACV to treat FMS/CFS right away and I couldn't pull myself away from the computer for the next 3 or 4 hours. I went right out and bought a bottle of organic ACV and began the treatment the next morning. At the same time I got rid of anything in the house that had artificial sweetener or MSG in it. I've been mixing 2 tsp. In 8 oz. of vegetable juice along with a sprinkle of cyanne pepper. I drink this with my morning pills and again before bed. I'm also eating very healthy, balanced meals and drinking lots of distilled water. Results so far - Today's only my 5th. Day so haven't seen any improvement in pain level, but I've lost 3 or 4 lbs. , probably water weight. I'm also eating more healthy. I want to add regular exercise, but I'm going to wait a week as I'm going on a 6 day house sitting job. I'll come back and post an update in a week or so. Thanks you from the bottom of my heart for this web site EC! I plan to spend a lot of time reading and participating on this wonderful site.

This is in response to Angelina from Toronto and Deborah from Houston. Are you both using organic ACV with the "mother" still in it? If you're using a pasteurized form of ACV or a filtered ACV, you're not using the right kind. Also if you put the vinegar in warm or hot water (above 118 degrees), you're killing vital enzymes. Furthermore, less is more. Cut back on your nighttime dose to back to 2tsp for the 16oz of water, Angelina. For Deborah, you should consider changing your dose to the same - 2tsp per 16oz of water. (Do not drink it with the tea unless the tea has cooled. )

Lastly if this doesn't work for you, not everyone's body is meant to consume vinegar. You might have other issues that need to be addressed first (such as Candida). Also, look up information about what foods to eat for your blood type. Some folks are not meant for vinegar (and alcohol).

I truly do believe that ACV has helped me lose weight. I am now on a strict diet and exercise program but, the ACV helped me dramatically lose inches off of my waist. ALSO, for people like me who want to lose FAT and don't care so much about the number on the scale: it is in my personal belief that the high acidic levels in the vinegar cause the enzymes in the fat cells to break down, therefore causing a loss in fat. I love ACV! It tastes horrid at first but, after a while you truly do get used to it. AND AND AND don't be afraid of what other people say like "it will cause cancer" or "there's no miracle cure". Everyone's body is different and therefore you can be your own judge (: Love yourself, even if you have a little extra something. There truly is no one to compare to you because you are the only you there is.

I haven't read of anyone that heavy on here (yet). Does anyone have any suggestions to help me? I didn't used to be active, but I've been trying now. I'm also trying to eat healthier, but that's nothing new. I've been eating MUCH healthier for over a year now. So is there a trick to taking acv that will make it work for me? If so, what is it? Dear Too:

I am trying it right now for weight loss as well. What struck me when reading the posts on weight loss was that many of the sucessful people are having some in a glass of water before each meal. What was discussed in that section was that this did 3 things when used at that time. #1 lowered the glycemic index of food eated at that time(reduced amt of insulin secreted) #2 assisted with digestion and #3 the pectins in the ACV helped people feel more full so they ate less. Here's hoping it works, those three reasons to take it make sense to me!
