apple cider vinegar for weight loss

oh, my goodness! i tried the acv (2 tsp) in 16 oz of water only one time a day. normally when i wake up in the morning or before i go to bed at night. I lost 5 lbs in one week. unfortunately, i haven't been able to use it this week because i have reocurring bacterial vaginosis and i read on this site that the acv could make it worse. it's not as bad as usual though, but i've also found remedies for that on here!!! thanks so much for the posts!!!

Replied by James

The reason it would make it worse is because of the "mother" bacteria. It's basically like a natural antibiotic. Antibiotics can cause a serious itch in that area because, it too, like antibiotics is indiscriminate in the bacteria it kills, so it could aggravate your situation

Based on what I've read, I really think that ACV is beneficial for really overweight people perhaps with some yeast issues going on. I did take it at 280lbs, lost 16lbs in 2 months and still losing weight. I took the store brand for the first month and then switched to the ___ Organic because I've read so much about it being the best. I have also somewhat watched my eating and added some light exercise, nothing very drastic, so I really believe that the ACV is helping. I can say that my stomach is getting flatter for the first time in years and my complexion has a lighter more youthful glow. I just prepare a huge water bottle of 64 oz and splash in about 2 tablespoons ACV and sip it throughout the day at work. I might also do another 2 tablespoons in the am and pm when I remember. I give ACV a YEA!

I do care about my metter reading is to high. I weigh at that time 225 now 220. You see I never took doctor drug like this before and I am not going to start GOD help me.

Melanie, I am in the same boat as you. I also recently had a baby, about 8 months ago. I was 150. I lost about 15 lbs with gym and eating right. Currently I am 135. I want to become 120 lbs. I have been using ACV, organic from Trader Joes. Used it since past 2 weeks, but have not seen any difference at all. Not even 1/2 lb! I take 1.5 tablespoon in 8 ounces of water. I make that 3 times a day and drink it. Once as soon as i wake up in the morning. Once after lunch and the last one before going to bed, after dinner. Am I doing something wrong? Please give me some hits!!!! I am desperatly wanting to loose weight! THANKS

Nipa, I think you need to give it more time. Another poster experienced the same thing and after a month she noticed weight loss, were the two weeks that you did it around that time of month where we naturally gain weight? And you need the type of ACV with the mother in it. I felt like I bloated and gained weight too. then I stopped it like you I felt much better on the ACV as it helps with so many things. Don't be discouraged....

Another post here says, to lose weight take acv before food, and to gain weight take it after. You problem may be taking it after food. I haven't tried it myself. Just happened to read this other post.

ok back again to say it has been 3months doing this remedy and still loosing weight i am now at 144. and yes i am still doing the same remedy as from the first blog i posted. i see some people have posted if you drink this acv befor meals you loose weight and if you drink it after meals you gain weight.. i sipp it all day long regardless if its befor or after meals. so yeah i just think its different for everyone i also increased my physicall activites more walking every other night with double stroller. so people dont give up just give it some time dont be scared of it lol... it will help remember its all natural. and another thing just watch what you eat im not saying to completly cut off your favorite foods but just limit the amount you serve before each meal i also drink lots of water so you do get fuller and the acv helps. also before you go to bed drink a glass full of water. so just be positive you can do this... thanks mel

Hey all,

I just wanted to report my experience with using ACV for the second time. I initially started in July 07 and took it for about 5 weeks and lost 18lbs. I was taking 2Tlbsp of Acv, 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 Tblspn of honey. I didn't stop bcuz it wasn't working, I just got caught up with life...I graduated college, moved, had deaths n accidents in my family and started workin 2 I just slowly got out of the habit of taking it. I wasn't watching what I ate or exercising, but I never gained the weight back. I started @ 262 and went down to 255.I stayed 255 until Jan 1, 2009 when I re dedicated myself to getting healthy.....I have changed my dosage to the new revised recipe on here...which is 2 teaspoons of acv in 16 ounces of water (2 cups)...and I sip throughout the day. I prepare a weeks worth of water bottles in advice n take it with me to work n school....So far since the 1st of Jan....I have lost 16lbs....n its only Feb 5th. I haven't worked out one day.I have a slim fast shake in the morning followed by a few gulps of acv mix...then I have salad or fruits for lunch n whatever I want for long as u take a few sips b4 n after meals....u will lose weight. I notice my stomach slimming the most. I don't know how people can say this doesn't work. I want to take it for the rest of my life..bcuz my hair is long n shiny, I have a lot more energey(hence I'm wide awake @ 5am writing this) and I have had severe back back from some pinched nerves in my back....I used to take 6 to 10 tylenol or motrin to get through the day....and to me its amazing that I haven't taken any pain meds for my back since I started acv again.I swear by it. Try it. It has so many health benefits , that you have nothing to lose.Ill post my progress again @ the end of Feb. As of 2day I weigh 246lbs. Hope this helps....Good Luck!!

Hey All,

I'm back! My last post was on Feb 4. I was 246lbs on Feb. 5. Today I weigh 235 lbs. I feel great. I'm the last month I haven't done anything different besides I did Tae Bo 3 times.I consume between 1500 and 1800 calories per day. I got a few emails from people asking what they were doing wrong because it wasn't working for them. Honestly, I only know what I've actually done myself so if you are using another brand or taking more or less then that may be why you are having a problem. I recommend _____s. I'm still very satisfied with ACV. I even splurge every now and then and have pizza or donouts, but I have 1 slice or 1 donut and THATS IT!! In moderation.I'll check back soon. Oh yeah My waist used to mesaure 49 inches and now its 43inches.

Hello and congratulations on that weight loss. However that "have a Slimfast drink" for breakfast caught my eye. I find that a lot of the so called health foods and drinks to help you lose weight have one or both of those excitotoxins in them which may be preventing you from losing more weight, as both monosodium glutamate (MSG) and aspartame are noted for causing weight gain. So look up those names they hide MSG under and go read the ingredients on your Slimfast drink, especially looking for any hydrolyzed plant (corn, soy or other) protein, because it contains both MSG and aspartame.

ACV for Weight Loss---WORKS. I probably should have waited a little longer b4 posting an update but I'm just so happy with the results of ACV.Today, March 27th...I weigh in 3 months I have lost over 30 lbs....I started @ 262 on Jan 1st. re: SlimFast - the reason it didnt work for me is the 18 grams of sugar in a single can of it. Check the label. I am referring to original, regular slim fast and its competing store-brand products. Check the sugar grams.

To migrate toward healthier shakes and smoothies, switch to the high protein variety, then the same-brand protein mix after that, then step by step toward making your own blender creations at home. It will be less shock in the taste this way, and you will be able to know exactly what is in it.

Replied by Anon

I would avoid Slimfast. You will probably have better luck with brewer's yeast, nutritional yeast, Borax, cream of tartar, chlorella and spirulina, Lugol's iodine, whey powder, l-glutamine.

I had success with the hunger control Slimfast in the past, but it contains Splenda/sucralose ie sugar-bleach. Bleach is a carcinogen. There are reports that the sucralose does get somewhat digested. The regular Slimfast did not curb my hunger.

There is a concoction of 1 cup each ginger juice, garlic juice, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and honey (directions are under the link for heart blockage) that helps me lose weight.

Slimfast is like fasting, but harder because your bloodsugar keeps getting boosted and then dropping.

Try this instead of Slimfast:

High speed blender mix:

1 glass cold water

1 heaping scoop brewer's yeast (tastes very bitter)

1 heaping scoop whey powder (get the organic, cold process, pasture raised if you can)

1 Tbsp. l-glutamine powder

1 banana

Also, I recently read that in the past people used a recipe as follows (I'm guessing at the amounts, combine all):

1 cup Yogurt

1 Tbsp. Wheat germ

1 Tbsp. Wheat germ oil

1 Tbsp. Molassas

1 Tbsp. Brewer's yeast

Apple Cider Vinegar: This is the best by far. I love it, and have become addicted to using it. It has now become a part of my daily routine. I take 2 tsp to an 8oz glass of water in the morning upon awaking, and then go about my business. I find the early morning remedy gives me a burst of energy, and I think we all could use that first thing in the morning..ha ha. I drink the same amount after eating a light breakfast usually about 10am-ish. I again take it after eating a light lunch. Again after a light dinner. I follow a low carb diet, and do try to watch my fats, but I am telling you...this works for me. I started following a low carb lifestyle approximately 4 years ago, prior to my use of the apple cider vinegar. I weighed 158 lbs, and I dropped 30 lbs within 4-5 months. I was able to keep it off for about 3 years, and then slowly started to regain over the past 1-2 years. I weighed 143 about a month ago, and I was at the point where I was NOT going back to 158 again. I started the apple cider vinegar. I now weigh 138, and I am full of energy...major plus!

I have read almost every post on this site and I am amazed at how much it has helped many of you. I know though, as in any other remedy out there, this may not work for everyone, but it does work for me. I am very intersted in trying the coconut oil now as well. I have elevated cholestrol, but not to the point of danger, although the high cholestrol runs in my family, as does heart disease on both sides of my family, so I figure it cannot hurt to give it a try. I am a 39 year old female, and have become very interested in living as healthy of a lifestyle as possible. I see a chiropractor twice a week as well, who is very supportive of this. I wish everyone all the luck in trying this. To those that have had hard time with it, never give up..keep the faith. A big thank you to the creators of this site. Julie-Michigan

Hello I was diagnosed with RA when I was about 35 years old. Over the last 11 years I've gone from walking and running to barely walking. A little over a month ago I found this site and decided to try the ACV. Now not being able to exercise I gained about 50 some pounds in 11 years. Since I've started taking ACV I have noticed that the RA has lightened up A little, But to be honest I missed a couple days of taking it, while in the hospital. Now normally, I eat pretty well and have had no problem with that. But when they weighed me at the hospital, I found that in the last month I have lost over 30 pounds without even trying. Now I have tried to loss this weight before on diets with no success. Now I'm just starting to notice that I am losing my appetite. So I'm not eating as much now. What a nice side effect to losing the pain of RA. My doctor has been after to lose weight over the last couple of years. Can't wait to see his face and tell him what I've been doing. I think he's gonna be shocked, I know that I was. Thanks Kurt

Raw organic apple cider vinegar has helped me so much, I feel like a vinegar evangelist!! I tell everyone about it. I heard about it in 2003 after having been in the hospital for chronic broncitis three times that year and had develped asthma, was on a nebulizer and inhalers. I have always had allergies.

After I started the raw vinegar mixed with raw honey - I have been drinking 1/4 cup mixed with a glass of water at night.- I have lost 55 pounds, which I learned was due to the vinegar daily - have not had bronchitis or asthma and have quit taking acid reflex meds, lung meds, singular for asthma, don't need the nebulizer or inhalers. I also quit taking nexium and just learned it is also good for leg cramps. I am a much healther person. I take mine at night, but think I will try taking smaller doses three times a day. Even my lung doctor agreed ACV was good for your lungs. He said his Mother raised them on it for sore throats and colds. Too bad the drug companies don't agree. Thanks for your site

I used apple cider vinegar for about 3 months, yes it does help in weight loss, I lost 45 pounds. Did excercise also. Only serious negative thing was that my blood work showed that I was seriously anemic, so I stopped the vinegar and now I am fine. I guess it washed nutrients as well.

I have lost lost 8 pounds in 2 months (173 to 165). I am not taking apple cider vinegar for weight loss, but because my doctor believes I have low stomach acid. My GERD symptoms have all but stopped also. I take about a table spoon (sometimes two for larger meals or if they have meat) before each meal. I sometimes take pills with 600mg ACV if the bottle isn't handy. I may need to stop the ACV if the weight loss continues, which is a shame because the GERD is the real issue.

Apple cider vinegar really helps when it comes to those days when you feel bloated. Except I add some cayenne, and black pepper to mine. It's also curbed my huge appetite (which also probably deflated my waistline).

Hi everyone, I would like to know how drinking water wit Acv works when you're trying to lose weight. I've been drinking 1-2 tspn every morning and night b4 bed for the past 2 months but it's def not working. Can someone pls tell me what am doing wrong or suggest a better remedy. Since I been taking the Acv and water I only feel lighter like a real Detox but I seem to have a bigger appetite. I get hungry real fast from drinking acv & water, maybe it just dosnt work for me. I have used ACV every single day for about a year now for aches, pains and lowering my blood pressure. I haven't lost an ounce (unfortunately) during all the time I've taken it. I believe its weight-loss claims are 'greatly exaggerated'.

In fact, one week when I skipped two days, I lost 2 lbs! It made me wonder if it has the opposite effect on me.

Replied by Cat
(Bop, NZ)

Kelly from Cambridge, Ma - Kelly, I don't even think the fantastic apple cider vinegar will help our weight (and other health issues) unless our diets change in ways also. So many people these days consume what they consider 'food' and it comes out of a box, goes into the microwave etc when we all know this highly processed, high sodium 'food' is not really FOOD! You didn't say what you eat or go into any details but could this be the problem? Are you consuming plenty of fresh fruit/veges and drinking 2L water each day or eating processed goods?

Replied by Kelly
(Cambridge, Ma)

Hi Cat - Obviously, I wouldn't expect ACV or any other product to help me lose weight on its own. That's just common sense.

I actually eat very clean - no sugar and no processed foods. I put about a half teaspoon of raw honey in my morning coffee, and that's it for the day in terms of anything sweet. And, I was drinking tons of water every day a decade before it became popular to do so.

I have always struggled with my weight (10 pounds, give or take). I am the type who gains five pounds just walking by a bakery. It seems it's a genetic-type curse. I had my thyroid checked years ago. Everything was normal, according to my MD. And, I certainly don't live a sedentary life either. I am always on the go.

My point in posting to the previous thread, was that I found it interesting that when I didn't take the ACV for a couple of days, I lost a bit of weight. (Keeping in mind that I'd taken the ACV every day for a year or more.)

I'll continue with the ACV for its other benefits, but my posture concerning its weight loss properties remain - I feel they are 'greatly exaggerated'. But then, as with many things, what works for one may not work the same for another.

If we are doing the 'right things' and they aren't producing results, I've found I have to tweak it...some intermittant fasting (Eat Stop Eat site is informative), sometimes changing up exercise, the Emotional Freedom Technique (Nick Ortner, or Gary Craig), and for those who know, spiritual balance along with physical and emotional weight release is a component. Stubborn issues often present physically but the source is something holding on on another level, that once addressed and released, the body follows. I eat emotionally, and when I face what that issue(s) is, and make amends, or correct my faulty thinking, whatever my body is holding onto for insulation against pain also lets go.

Maybe it's the dosage. I've just started this myself but when I was reading up on it, it said to take 1-2tbsp not tsp. Idk tho, just a suggestion. Do you take it with or without mixing into water?

First let me say that all apple cider vinegars are not equal!! The only one that "heals" is: ORGANIC RAW-UNFILTERED APPLE CIDER VINEGAR WITH "THE MOTHER"

This might sound rather strange.... But this is the real stuff... Trust me! You can buy it at a natural food store or at hip supermarket. I have found it at chain stores as well.

Having grown up in Woodstock N.Y. in the 1960's, I was part of the pack that used this to cure everything from sour stomach to losing weight to getting rid of yeast over growth as well as healing your gums and as a healthy hair rinse. It is also great for dog and cat hot spots and other pet skin problems. Plus... it will actually benefit them if they lick it!

Replied by Francisca
(Zug, Switzerland)

Janet, I have read a lot on this site about ACV with the mother and if I understand well "the mother" is something that floats in the vinegar. Well, here in Europe I have never, ever seen it anywhere and I travel to quite a few countries. ACV is sold in the supermarkets, pharmacies, health food stores but... Nowhere have I have seen any "mother". So, what are we to do? I just use organic one as it is either that or else the regular one, I assure you! Is the "mother" so beneficial... No idea as I have never seen it but when you don't have the choice either you ditch the stuff either you make do with the second best! Why we have no "mother"? My guess is as good as anyone else's, maybe here they think that the "mother" it is something highly dangerous.... That is usually now the reason to ban something!

Replied by Lauren
(Cape May, Nj)

Fransisca from Zug, Switzerland, "The Mother" is referring to [organic] Apple Cidar Vinegar, it's raw and unfiltered which is why you have the floaters. I know it's available on amazon and a million other online shops, I'd send you a link but I'm in the U. S. and doubt that any sites I use would be helpful to you. I'm not sure if it's available in Europe if not just look for the same parameters: organic, raw, unfiltered and it should do the trick.

Replied by Moonchild

@ Francisca from Zug - I believe "mother" refers to the vinegar being "trub."

Replied by Squaregum

I don't know where Zug is. But if you live near the border with France you can find one in a store called Satoriz, it is unpasteurised and I believe it has the mother on it. In fact, while I was writing this post I went to my cupboard and checked, it doesn't say anything about it but it definetely has the cloudy stuff.

You can find it here:
