Our 5 month amstaff has suffered with mis diagnosis from many vets and negative skin scrappings. We have done Ted's remedy 3 times in 1 week, boosting immune system too but she still is rapidly loosing hair and biting scratching herself raw - no relief even for a few mins after treatment. She also goes bright red and covered in spots after rinse in solution.
How often should we apply treatment, why does she still itch so bad, how can we treat ring around eyes which is spreading to rest of face and any other words of advice? Thanks.

Worked Temporarily
I am trying the Borax/Peroxide solution and it seemed to be helping but the last couple of days there has been a lot of itching again. I did the treatment 3X the first week then have been doing it once a week since, for a total of 6 treatments.
My dog did throw up the first time as she licked off some of the solution, so I put a cone on her after that, treated the entire body then when she was dry and I could take the cone off, sprayed the head and ears a couple of hours later. Maybe this is where I went wrong? I am also having trouble getting the head wet enough without getting it in the eyes or near the mouth (which might cause vomiting again).
Anyway, need some help, the first 5 treatments seemed to show improvement but the last one just seemed to cause more itching.
She is mostly scratching at her ears and the insides of her legs and armpit area. She did have red bumps at one point and I did treat with a topical pesticide at that time and the bumps did not come back but the itching returned so I then decided to try the Borax/Peroxide solution rather than give a pesticide again.
Any suggestions?
THANKS!

Hello,
about six years ago I adooted my Dad's four year old golden retriever, Belle. Dad had cancer and about the last six months of his life began doing things that didnt really make sense. Belle was the light of his life! But in his illness what he thought was spoiling her and giving her the best was resulting in horrible conditions. Her right ear was constantly swollen and inflamed with yeast infections. Her eyes had yellow and green discharge, she was very overweight and her coat was patched from her biting, chewing and licking her skin. He kept taking her to his vet who kept prescribing antibiotics and steroids, but as soon as the round was finished would go back to back with prescriptions. None of it was helping her. After Dad passed I took Belle home with me. I had a 13-year (but looked and acted like a puppy) old mini schnauzer, Samson, who I adored. Within a month of bringing home Bella, Samson quit eating and was getting so thin. Took them both to my vet who informed me that Samson had a large tumor in his front chest that was suffocating him. He also had a pkethora of medicine for Belle and wanted to give her steroids. I was feeding them both Nutro dry kibble and he shamed me and insisted I buy the Vetrinarian Science Diet he sold. ( after that I studied up on how bad that formula is and that the vets get kickbacks for each sale) so, I eventually was able to get him to release both dogs records, went home and started my journey in the internet. My little buddy Samson had to be put to sleep which to this day was the hardest thing ever. I had someone come to my home to do it and the minute shec came through the door and sat on the carpet with us, he sat up in her lap and new. He had the look of relief. I miss him still and that was six years ago. So, Bella. What to do about my poor 'Princepessa'. Ted saved her (and me) First, I put her in a limited ingredient diet, Acana lamb and rice. Dad was deeding her 2 juice injected chicken breasts a say along with whatever else he thought she woukd like....tuna cat food, potatoes, milk bones...etc.
So I cut out all chicken and to minimize sugar (due to her constant yeast infections) no potatoes, limited grain. Treats were and still are either Wet Noses berry buscuits or Mud bay no grain no chicken treats, Trader Joes Salmon jerkey. I would put ACV in ger water, food and use it as a rinse in her bath. I gave her Organic whole milk bulgarian yogurt in the morning. She lost about 25 lbs which was a great start. Was happy as can be but her ears and skin were terrible mess and stinky. I tried topicals, oil of oregano ( that didnt go over well!) Coconut oil, she would hust lick it off and the scratch and chew herself raw. The cone of shame..no go.... Dr. Ted's mange recipe was our saving grace. after work every other evening I began the routine faithfully. Unfortunately it was winter so it was hard for me to let her drip dry for 30 minutes before trying to do a little warm blow dry, but she was so sweet about it. We bonded. I think anxiety from the loss of my Dad, moving to a new home where I was gone all day and loosing her buddy Samson definitely exasperated her nerves and immunities, but I was on a mission! This was a long process, so please be dedicated and patient. Something else I did to help with the chewing whenever I not home...I took an old t-shirt of mine that I wore to sleep one night, put her front legs thru the arms, her head thru the neck, pulled it ove her back and yummy and cut holes for her back legs! This held the shirt over the area she would lick and chew at. After I would fet dressed each morning I would say, 'now let's get Bella's 'pretty dres's on'. She would get so excited. Once in a while I would take a pair if old drawstring sweat pants, cut them into shorts and put those on tucking in the shirt. Slowly but surely she began healing. As her wounds became smaller from the borax baths I would rub some coconut oil into them for anti-bacterial protection and to encourage the healing process. Her smell began to go away. Her right ear was still a BIG challenge. Betadine solution in a cotton pad, then I would spray colloidal silver.
At night I would rub with coconut oil. She new the routine and would lay in her left side as soon as she saw the cotton and coconut oil. All she knew is I was was trying to help her and she was thankful. And I was and am sooo thankful that she trusts me so much! One other thing, you know the all to familiar 'frito feet' smell? Try this, I take a cotton pad, dip it in brown Listerine and rub it in her paws. After a couple times if that...no more frito feet! Repeat as necessary which shouldnt need to be often if your buddy isnt suffering from an underlying larger yeast issue! Cheap and very effective! Belle is a beautiful happy, healthy 10 year old who looks and acts (physically) much younger than that! Everybody in the neighborhood loves her and counts in her smile as they go to work or come home. When they no we're iutsise, they come out to let her....I feel like the Pied Piper! And now...her diet: AM:-1 cup dry kibble (Acana singles, lamb and rice) with three pumps Grizzly Pollock Oil brand Omega 3 Fatty Acids and about a quarter cup water. Swish it around in the bowl and she loves it! PM: 1 cup same dry kibble and one heaping tablespoon of canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filler!) Treats remain the same as above with occasional fresh apple or banana and pnut butter. Her coat is like silk! Ted's remedy worked like a miracle after trying so many other things that didnt work.
I highly encourage and endorse using this method for your pet...and remember, patience and commitment! This brought us both so close to one another after our losses. Belle (a.k.a. Princepessa) is my best friend and faithful companion!
Borax Application Tips

I used this years ago and it worked. What I did was soak an old t-shirt or towel in Ted's peroxide and borax mange solution (My dog is 90 pounds) and then I applied it to his skin and sat with him for the amount of time. That way it was able to saturate on him and it got all the skin. I did not rinse it off. I applied it to all parts of the skin. The t-shirt soaked in it gave me better control of applying it to his face and around the ears too.

Shih tzu caught sarcoptic mange from another family member's dog. Been using this for 1 week so far and keeping dog isolated. He doesn't have sores, not itching much at all. How long would you say to give until he's not contagious anymore? I feel bad keeping him apart but I don't want to go thru this again as we're all healing from scabies from it.

Hi,
I had a dog that would scratch yet I could not find any fleas on her! And she didn't smell good so I kept her as clean as I could. She started to wake me up at night with her scratching.
I had no idea she had mange until I found a couple bald spots on her upper back legs.
So I tried "Ted's Mange Cure" and followed directions. I used 4 cups of water, 2 cups of hydrogen Peroxide and 3 heaping tablespoons of Borax powder. She is 99% better and she no longer has an Odor! She still has a couple tiny hot spots but I've only tried the treatment 2 times! I am going to continue to treat my dog as I'm sure she will be 100% OK with more treatment. When you soak or spray the dog do not pat the coat dry, let solution soak in. Since it's cold this time of year I use the blow dryer on my dog in a warm bathroom and dry her off.
Thanks EarthClinic and Ted from Thailand!

My best friend George is a 12 year old Pyr who has suffered with a skin condition for 2 years. Not once did I even consider that he may have mange. We have had multiple (pointless) visits to the vet and were told that aging dogs frequently lose their hair and develop allergies, bumps & sores. He has been treated with antibiotics then double antibiotics and for the last year been on numerous "trial diets" to discover what he is allergic to and all without any relief to my poor best friend. I have felt helpless and have even thought at times I was going to lose him. One week ago I found this article which immediately made me think that my dog has mange!!! He has had his second bath in this miracle solution and is already healing, sleeping without scratching and biting all night, feeling at least 5 years younger and looking so much better. It breaks my heart that it has taken me so long to find something that finally offers him relief and comfort. Thank you! Thank you!

Thank you Thank you for this simple remedy for treating my dogs sarcoptic mange. Our Vet wanted to treat my 10 1/2 yr old pup with a 2nd round of toxic meds. 1st round didn't work at all. I just couldn't do it. I felt in my heart that it was too damaging to my dog's health. My poor pup was scratching frantically! She was stinky and losing fur. She was becoming nervous, withdrawn and sad. The scratching was driving us crazy too. I followed your directions, bathed the dog and covered her with the Borax solution. Air dried. WOW!!! What a difference that 1st night. She actually had a peaceful sleep and so did we. Still some scratching the next day but a HUGE difference. A miracle. Applied the 2nd treatment a few days later. She is starting to get back to her old self...energetic, playful and hungry. Going to keep treating her with this solution until I feel she is completely cured. Why didn't the Vet offer this simple solution that is non-toxic for my dog? What a shame that others don't know about this. Thanks again!!!!

We are 1 week into Ted's mange treatment and what a difference. I started treating drinking water at the same time due to how bad the mange got. To prevent scratching, I cut of a pair of tights for socks and used medical tape to keep them on and then put a pair of mittens over socks. I also cut tight waist band off to make a fabric shield for middle of my pom's body. And then I covered him in a child's onesie after he dried again to prevent scratching. His hair is starting to grow back and he is so much more comfortable now. Will update each week.

When we got Loki he had a few tiny red bumps on his belly and he had a faint odor. We automatically thought fleas and he needed a bath. We gave him a bath in Dawn and picked a few fleas but not many and the odor returned a few hours later. As the days rolled by the bumps got worse and became rough. Loki's odor became more pungent and he started itching a lot. Found out that Loki had mange. I came across Ted's Remedy!!! Very affordable, convenient, easy and our pup loved the frequent attention from both of his fav peeps. This really works. Thanks.

Ted's treatment worked brilliantly on my 1 year old border collie. She had infection around her eyes (goggles), lip fold, and on her nose. She had been back and forth to the vet's for 11 months, receiving a range of different BS diagnoses (none of which included mange) and a range of useless treatments including antibiotics, antihistamines, and several cortisone products. After all this my dog's infection was actually getting worse. I was fed up and went to Earth Clinic and discovered Ted's remedy. I did it exactly as prescribed - doing the baths in hydrogen peroxide + Borax solution twice per week. After 3 weeks the mange infection was completely gone. Plus my dog had about 50% more energy than she did before. This treatment is excellent, and costs almost nothing.

The borax and peroxide treatment helped my 1 year puppy that was very sick. Her immune system was not good and she had gotten mange because of it and all the yeast on her body. The vet said she didn't have mites because they did a scraping and didn't find any ..two different times. But it is looks like it and smells like it and acts like it..it is Mange. (PS there is a way to get a better reading of mites. If the Vet would use some plastic tape and squeeze the skin the mites will come out. It is a better test than scraping google the new study) And she started having relief right away from the Borax and peroxide mange wash. I did it every 3rd day. Used it for about 2 months. Then had to do stronger things. I had to do Homeopathy, a herbal and vitamin supplement program to help and raw food and probiotic goat milk.
But for a dog that didn't need all I did I think this is great..It helped me get started to get the mites under control and loved it. Try it and you will know within a month or more if that is all you need. Change the food to grain free and more nutritional food..raw and otherwise. But Thank you so much for this cheap help that is often enough for most dogs to get back to health! In the photo you see after a year of treatment she still has some issues on her eyes but we are almost there with all the treatments I listed in this review. Her energy is up and we are finally almost there.

I used this remedy on two badly infected young puppies three years ago along with a little borax in their water. They were cured and have had no recurrence. I was given two grown large dogs several months ago who appear to have demodectic mites as they are constantly stopping to scratch. They are quite miserable. I'm going to bathe them and do the borax/peroxide thing again.

Hello, we have been doing the Borax solution for a few weeks. The thing is, he has it BAD, and had it his whole life, he is 11 now. He suddenly got worse then normal a couple of years ago and lost almost all of his fur. He gets these bubbly scabs all over and now his head and ears. The solution baths have worked great on his itching (very little), and his ears are starting to heal... But no hair is growing back. He has actually been losing hair, and still has open wounds/scabs all over his body...
I am just worried, should we put him back on his antibiotics while we give him Ted's Mange Solution? He sleeps a lot and is losing the the little hair he had left. The only thing is, his itching has gotten less and his ears are starting to look better. He has scabs that open and bleed every day, his neck, his back. His paws he over licks all the time... I know I heard he is supposed to look worse before better... But it has been about a month from doing this, and no hair growth, and still open scabs that bleed. The Antibiotics used to keep him from bleeding some.... Please some advice? Thank you!
We also give him 2 fish oil tablets a day and tablespoons of Coconut oil to eat and some on his skin. This is all to help boost his immune system and sometimes these vitamin chews.
Yes, shampoo the dog first before the borax bath. Rinse well. Then do the borax, water and hydrogen peroxide 1% mix. Pour over a dog for 10 minutes all over in a bath. I was rinsing mine with small plastic container I had since it was easier in a bathtub. I did that for good 10 minutes - all over. Then leave the solution on the dog, I carry mine outside so he can shake it all over.
Don't worry if his hair coming out ever more and skin is ultra dry - that is normal. Mange is dying off the skin. You will notice that after few baths the skin turns like black or so. That is normal - skin will return into its pink color after you stop with baths in 2-3 months.
1. Very important - clean the floors, house, dogs bed, leash, brushes, anything he has contact with - hot water and borax. That will kill all the mites, larves and anything you have on the floor. (it is not visible with naked eye but it is there). Keep the dog in one clean area - and was the floor with hot water and borax every other day. He have to be in ultra clean place. No riding in a car either - there are mites there (if we was in your card before).
2. Another important part of treatment is giving your dog a water mixed with borax for internal clean. 1 liter of water and 1/8 of teaspoon of borax. Mix it. Give it to him as a water. I gave mine after a walk since he never wanted to drink but when we came back and he was thirsty - either that or no other water. He drink it. You will notice that his energy is back, eats better with time. Don't worry if he puke at first after the water with borax. That is normal. Mine chow-chow did not but I read that some dogs do. The idea here is to kill mites internally since they are digging tunnels deep in a skin and lay new eggs. They mix with dogs blood internally and that is why it is so hard to get rid of them. Adding borax to his water will do the job...you will notice in 1-2 days or so. Energy comes back to the dog, he wants to eat and live. When mites overtake dogs body they drain blood and energy out of him, that is why he is so skinny and weak.
3. Do not use any lotions, oils, anything moist on his skin. Mites - LOVE THAT - don't do it. The idea is that borax will dry off the skin and those nasty parasites with them. It does work for sure.
4. Mine chow chow is mite free for 6 years now. I did good treatment once for 4 months and I kept him in one area, cleaned house with borax (floors, sheets - anything he might have been - (don't use it on the leather, I destroyed my purse by accident when I swiped with borax, I taught that mites might be on it since he smell something there all the time).
5. Follow the steps and mange does not return. 100% truth here - my dog is healthy, red hair grew back, black crust on his skin went way (after so many borax baths)- I only wash him when I see he scratches a bit because I worry that he might pick up a thick or something. I do the borax bath and he stops scratching.

Ted's remedy helped my lab/border collie mix so much. She had yeast mange and hair loss. Her skin was flakey she smelled awful and scratched all the time. Her tail had thick black skin and hair was mostly gone. I wanted to avoid taking her to the vet because I know it sometimes is not the best way to go. I wanted natural. Teds' remedy worked every time but just didn't last. The last time she needed to go to the vet for vaccinations I asked them to do a thyroid test on her for hypothyroidism because she had all the symptoms. And that is what she had. She is on medicine and has healthy skin her hair grew back and she doesn't smell. Just wanted to share because I am so relieved that we have an answer and she is doing great! And it may help someone else that has a dog that is struggling with hypothyroidism.

I am following up on my initial posting of March 3,2016. It had been suggested by my vet that my dog might have mange because he wasn't responding to the medications she gave him for yeast and allergies - he still had red spots & little scabs all over his back. So I had decided on my own to try the borax/peroxide baths, because that is known to be helpful for either mites or a fungal infection so I figured it was worth a try. I did give my dog a series of Borax baths (about 6 total) which hugely improved the red spots on his back and legs, but did nothing for the more major problem with his paw pads. I did finally go to a new vet last week and she immediately diagnosed him with autoimmune skin disease. My dog was prescribed Prednisone. It's been three days on this medication and my dog is walking again for the first time in two months and it is really a rather amazing improvement. So, overall she said he had chronic yeast with the development of this autoimmune problem. The chronic yeast may or may not have led to the autoimmune situation. Anyway, this drug my dog is now on is one that comes with a price if it's continued for a long time, so as soon as I can I'll be phasing off of it and into natural immune supporting supplements. I've heard good things about medicinal mushrooms, like Reishi, for the treatment of autoimmune problems. But I have much to learn on this subject!
Regarding the Borax baths-- I don't regret trying the Borax treatments because they did help with his yeast, and the baths certainly did no harm. I had also been soaking his feet in Epsom salts regularly, which I think helped detox him. So anyway, now I need to learn all I can about natural methods for keeping my dog's immune system healthy and normalized.

My dog is also worse after using this for the 3rd time. Under his arms are very red and bumpy. He's so itchy and dry. Did this go away with your dog? If so how long did it take? Thank you.

I am generally a sceptic of natural remedies but am so glad that I gave this incredible mange treatment a try. It really works. Our 4 month old border collie contracted mange from her mother. We since discovered several other pups from the same "breeder" also had it. We understood vet treatment could be very expensive and prognosis variable so decided to try alternative methods and found the borax and peroxide recipe.
Our girl was in a terrible state, red raw patches which were scabby and bleeding on her face, neck, legs which then spread to her hind quarter. She was very unhappy and had no spark in her at all. I started the recipe without much hope. I applied the mix twice a week and after a month saw signs of improvement in her skin and some hair growth returning.
I reread the instructions and realised she really needed to be completely drenched, especially as her coat was so thick the spray wasn't fully getting to her skin. It has taken over 10 weeks but the change has been incredible. She now has a long, glossy coat and is a happy, playful little puppy. I will keep going with spraying bedding and bathing her for a while longer just to ensure this horrible condition is fully abolished but I would like to say a huge thanks. A sceptic has been converted!
