Shaving
Posted by Jessica G (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) on 02/05/2011

Hello,
I have had recent major rashes and bumps swelling up around where I shave my bikini line. I have always had some razor bumps in the past, but now I have constant large bumps that are sore and swelling that have not gone away for months. What can I do other than to stop shaving to clear up my skin? And why would this happen now? Thank you - Jessica

Shaving
Posted by Lily (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) on 02/06/2011

Hi Jessica G, I was taught by a 15 yr old girl whose mother taught her this trick. She said always shave downwards not upwards and because it doesn't cut so close to the skin it doesn't leave bumps but it also means the hair grows back faster. So the solution is 'shave downwards every time you shower'. You probably need to wait until the bumps have gone away but if you feel that is not a nice idea then just start this way now. Hope this helps. Lily.

I found a great remedy for after shave skin bumps and I used to get them all the time:
I keep the razor submerge in the rubbing alcohol, the whole time it just sits there. I have a small glass for that and replace it with a fresh alcohol as needed. Never had a one bump ever since. and is very cheep..

Fish Oil, Vitamin E

I used to have the odd break-out, particularly around menstruation. About 5 months ago I started taking taking fish oil with vitamin E - a combined oil in capsules. My skin became very smooth, glowing, even in tone, moisturised looking constantly and clear! I got so many compliments about how good my skin looked generally. I stopped taking it for the fish oil for about 2 months, and the spots, blemishes and a general uneven tone started again. I was so not used to it, and used to receiving compliments. So, I'm back on it, and within 2 days, it's as if my body 'remembers' and my skin is just starting now to clear up. I highly recommend fish oil with vitamin E. It will do your nails and hair wonders too :)

This is great information but I have a question. Strengthen weak skin with fish oil - how is it administered? Oral or topical? I take cod liver oil daily. Does that work?

Glycerin and Rose Water
Posted by Andrea C (Cardiff, Wales Uk) on 12/01/2010

HI to you all x My grand mother , who had the most lovely skin, swore by glycerin and rose water. Here in the UK , once upon a time we could bottles of the above, ready made from any pharmacist's. But all the pharmacists I tried (and at 51 years old, belive me, I tried so many well known ones in the UK) you can now only buy glycerin from them, and then go to a health shop for pure rose water. Then do a 50-50 mix of both products in one glass bottle, and give it a shake, then use pure cotton wool and gently rub it on your face from your neck in gentle strokes outwards towards your cheek bones, then up towards your cheek bones until you reach your hair line(on your fore head) then gently stroke it around the eye area. Always remember that the skin around your eyes, is a lot more fragile than the rest of your face, so as gently as you can, smooth it in wards towards your nose. Then do the same with the back of your neck, smooth it up towards your hair line from the base of your neck, and also for the rest of your body if needed, start at the ankles and rub it gently up wards. Do this 3 times daily. Morning noon and night. If you feel you need to use it more frequently then do so. It won't harm you.

Also, another one of my grand mothers folk recipes for you eyes was to bathe them in witch hazel(pure of course) in an eye bath on rising and just before you go to bed. Hope to find out you all look 20 yrs younger with in the next couple of month's of use(HA! HA! ) but seriously, my Friends and I all use my grans advice and for our ages we all look younger. AND DRINK PLENTY OF PURE WATER!! YOU MUST KEEP YOUR BODY WELL HYDRATED ALSO!! If you can only use tap water, then boil and keep it refrigerated if possible it keeps bacteria from thriving in the water and the same if you use bottled water, once opened refrigerate. SEE YOU ALL AT YOUR 3RD 21ST BIRTHDAY PARTIES! (HA HA! ) Love Andrea c

Ghee

I was just wondering if it is safe to put ghee in your eyes? This is the first I have heard of it and am hesitant to use it. My eyes could use a little whitening so I'm interested to hear some feedback. Are there any alternatives to use in the eye to correct this problem?

Homeopathic Skincare

I found a co. that maked homeopathic skincare! So rare. I spoke to a lady who is an expert on shingles and she put on HGH Trauma Fix(sp?) which has homeopathics and the pain stopped! One guy told me he put this same gel on his psoriasis and it cleared up much to his doctor's surprise. Just sharing.

For about 3 months now the skin on my left leg above the knee has become very sensitive and now it is on my stomach. It feels as though something has rubbed the skin and made it sore. I have no rash of any kind, no fever or headache in fact I'm in great health except for the sensitive skin. ACV hasn't helped. I have tried eucalyptus oil, lotions and anything I can think of... I need help! I have been under a lot of stress lately. My father fell and broke his neck in Jan. And so I was at the hospital everyday, all day then he passed away in April so now I am trying to help my mother. Maybe, it's stress that causing my problem? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hi Jeepgirl - This may not even be applicable, but if you put a laptop on your lap/knees, you can experience extreme sensitivity in your skin - especially the left side. I've read that the optical drives of laptops are located on the left side and can damage skin. Some people even put their laptops on their stomachs while stretched out on the couch or bed. Perhaps a light massage of aloe vera gel (or even coconut oil) with a few drops of lavender essential oil mixed in might help with the sensitivity until you find the true cause of it. Good luck!

So sorry about your dad. This happened to me and I believe that it was *shingles* brought on by stress, I had exact same sore to touch skin, I never got blisters that some get with shingles just the extreme sensitive skin;try taking supplements to treat viruses like elderberry, lysine, and immunity builders, hope this helps!

This is an amazing site, so many helpful people. I am so impressed. I hope someone can help me! I have been taking the following combination of pills and supplements for the last 2 weeks. Prescription drugs ;
Lovazo caps 1000 2 caps twice a day
Niaspan ER Tabs 1 Daily
Seroqel 100mg 1 Daily
Arimidex Tabs 1 Daily
Simvastatin Tabs 1 Daily
OTC
81 mg aspirin 1 Daily
Calcium 600 w/ Vitamin D3 2 Daily
Grape Seed 400 mg 1 Daily
Hyaluronic Acid 50 mg 2 Daily
Ester C 1000 mg 1 Daily
Acidophyilus 1 Cap Daily

In addition to this I am also taking 3 tablespoons of organic ACV. I stumbled upon this site looking for a natural cure for my Main Coon Rescue that had a nasty ear infection with vertigo that I took in in mid August of this year. I was amazed at all the information that was available not only for pets but humans too. Needless to say, I started reading all the posts and found myself wanting to try quite a few of them which I have. I am now having a problem and I 'm not sure what is causing it. I started the ACV, Grape Seed, HA, Ester C, & Acidophilus in addition to the other medications & Supplements that I have been on for the last 4 years. My facial skin has gotten extremely dry. I have been cleansing my face with baking soda and applying jojoba oil to face and neck. Only my face and neck are extremely dry. I am hoping someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. Prior to adding the above treatments, I had combination skin. I have also ordered Food Grade H202 and now I am wondering if I am doing too much too soon. Haven't taken the H202 yet, as I want to remedy this problem first. Thanks in advance to anyone who has taken the time to read this post and tried to help.

For total skin care read the information on Virgin coconut oil, add at least 3 tablespoons a day to your food as you eat it, use a small amount to massage into areas of skin that have need of improvement. If it was me I would stop taking all oral supplements for 2 weeks (except any doctor prescribe meds, unless you speak with your doctor about a temporary stop) give your liver a chance to clear up, drink a lot of clean water, be sure you are having good BM, s everyday, eat fresh fruit and a lot of green vegs. I would recommend that you go to "askapatient dot com" and do a side-effects search on the drug cocktail you are taking. Its having extremely adverse health consequences on your body.

Cholesterol medications are one of pharma's big scams.

Hi, I am seeking any information on the above chemical/salt compound which is used as a preservative in food/cosmetics etc. I believe the main source is from toluene which I don't fancy, but I can't find anything that satisifies me as to its' being inoccuous or otherwise. I am considering purchasing a so called natural skin cream which contains this ingredient and am hoping yourselves or Ted perhaps can allay my fears. Thank you for a wonderful site and I have passed your information on to many who have benefited greatly from what is found here. Hoping this is not too much to ask. Sincerely Andrea

EC: Hi Andrea, what is the name of the chemical/salt compound you are seeking information about? Thanks..

I get alot of compliments on my skin from both ladies and men, I am 49, recently the ladies I work with asked me to write down what I use because I have no wrinkles and tend to look like I am still in my 30's. Here is what I use,

EXTERNALLY: Instead of soaps, I wash with Aura Acacia lavender scented mineral salts, (consisting of: baking soda, sea salt, borax and lavender essential oil) I use it on my whole body, NOTE: On my face I am VERY gentle to avoid breaks in the skin, it exfoliates the skin, and afterwards your skin feels AMAZING! Then I use Jojoba oil to moisturize and organic toner to replace the pH on my skin. The whole process leaves my skin glowing and smooth, not oily or shiny.

INTERNALLY: I take Hyaluronic Acid, which helps keep skin hydrated and smooth, Omega-3 (2) 1000 to 1200 caps per day, and several minerals including calcium, magnesium etc. Drink plenty of water, the more alkaline you stay the better, avoiding the acid stuff like dairy, or red meats. I exercise daily as well. The result is I hardly get sick, and look years younger, as a bonus, men notice me more and many times they are younger than me!

Ryegrass
Posted by Tom (Regina, Sk ) on 09/10/2010

Hi! Hope someone reads this under the appropriate section. There is a skin cream newly developed by the same Aussie company Oralmat that makes the asthma & allergy drops, out since the late 1990's. Yet once again, it's almost completely unknown. It is not prescription, and looks like it's selling on a UK site, for example, for about L 8. 5 (about $12-$15) for a 50 g tube. There is also a 25g size tube. Since it's a very specific commercial lab extraction and blend of a very common plant (ryegrass), and not a homemade recipe, I can't give the links.

Comment: I'm not sure I've ever seen any post here from anyone in Australia? That could be why this company's products are unknown still.

Nutrient Masks

Nutrient Masks I use:

1/4 of a Banana + 1 tablespoon of honey = for facial smoothing and nutrient cleanse.
Leave on 30 minutes before rinsing.

1 tablespoon honey with 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt = for glowing skin.
Leave on for 30 minutes before rinsing. This remedy is a popular skin remedy in the Middle East.

1-2 egg whites = cleansing mask, sucks out all impurities on your skin.
Allow egg whites to dry, then allow an additional 5 minutes before rinsing.

I have always had oily skin and small bumps on my face and neck. I mixed up some oatmeal and baking soda and use it everyday on my face. The bumps went away and so did the oily skin. I noticed that the more baking soda I put in, the less oily my skin is. Worked great!

This may be a silly question but did you cook the oatmeal before mixing it?Also did you use it as a mask and let it sit?

Oatmeal and Baking Soda Scrub
Posted by Jk (Lorimor, Ia, Usa) on 05/15/2010

Tee, I just grab a handful of oatmeal from the box and mix in enough baking soda until it kind of looks good. I keep it in a container and when I'm in the shower I just rub this into my face like any facial scrub. I do this twice a day, but I have pretty tough skin and also very oily. If you have any acne, it may tingle a little. I love the results! I'm also trying it on my cellulite on my legs. We'll see?!?

Tee, I forgot! I don't let it sit on like a mask. I just rub it in good and then rinse off. Hope it works for you!

Raw Cocoa Butter

Thanks for sharing your experience with cocoa butter. Can you tell us which kind of store did you get it from? Where can I find it in Girona or Barcelona?

Raw Cocoa Butter

Hi Carlos,

I just had to respond to this! Okay, after reading your testimony about raw cacao butter, I went to the health food store and bought some raw organic cacao butter which was very reasonably priced I might add. I too, use many natural oils on my face because my skin is very sensitive and can easily react to any chemicals or additives in face products. I use grapeseed oil, coconut oil, sea buckthorn oil, etc. and a wonderful olive oil cleanser which I get from a Japanese co. Anyway, we are very aware of the benefits of raw cacao but I, for whatever reason, never used the butter on my face.

You are right! It's fantastic. I have a dark complexion and am in my early 50's so I need to treat my skin with care. The second day I used it, the women I teach all commented on my face glowing! It is gentle, smells fabulous and my skin drinks it up but it doesn't stay oily at all. I just put a piece in my palms to warm it and then apply it to my face.

One of the women had a bad experience with a face product that burned her skin over the weekend which she was distressed about- rightly so. I happened to have the butter in my goodies bag and brought it out to her. She applied it and it began to calm down the burn.

Thank you Carlos! Love it! Lisa

EC: Hi Lisa, what's the name of the raw cocoa butter you bought? Did you find it at Whole Foods? Thanks!

Deirdre

Raw Cocoa Butter
Posted by Lisa (Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa) on 04/22/2010

Okay, the raw organic cacao butter is from a great company called Ultimate superfoods which is a very reasonably priced co. They have very high quality products and are spoken of highly in the raw community. I found mine at a great health food store/restaurant in the San Fernando Valley, CA. Our Whole Foods carries some of Ultimate's products but I'm not sure if it's because they are a very local co. I also know it can be ordered online. The bag I found was in the raw food section and is a 2 oz. bag. Go into the food section, not the beauty products section. Items tend to be less expensive there.
Lisa

EC: Thank you so much, Lisa! I searched the beauty and peanut butter/almond butter aisles at Whole Foods today and couldn't find it. I had the feeling I was in the wrong section!

Olive Oil

I've been obsessed with skin care since I was around 16 (I'm 27 now). I think my obsession stemmed from the fact that my mother looks very old for her age due to years and years of smoking. So, I've used an eye cream day/night moisturizers for over 10 years now. I must say that my favorite moisturizer to use at night is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. A very popular Japanese beauty/skin care company sells a tiny bottle of organic extra virgin olive oil for upwards of $40. I buy a large 17 ounce bottle of the same stuff at the grocery store for $6. It lasts forever. All I do is warm a dime sized amount in my hands and pat it on my face after cleansing before bed, concentrating on my forehead and around my eyes. I tend to get lots of compliments on my skin and although I drink tons of water and don't drink or smoke, I like to think that EVOO is really what's helping my skin.

I also have some old sesame seed oil that I want start back oil pulling with. But I dont knw if it's still good. How do you tell if your oils are no longer any good????

Cucumber
Posted by Patricia (Sanford, Fl) on 12/11/2009

I will definitely try this, Auset! I have Lupus, so my face will break out in a rash occasionally, and when it dries up my skin is very flakey and tender. Tell me....how long do you leave the cucumber "juice" on your skin before rinsing?

Cucumber
Posted by Naturally_me (Potlatch, Idaho, 83855) on 03/06/2011

Does the cucumber work to reduce under eye bags? I have been using white tea, and I soak coffee filters in a jar of tea leaves and tea, then I remove a filter and apply it to my face for a few minutes. Then, everytime I go to the bathroom, I take a Qtip and swab my face with the tea and then apply coconut oil to my face, gently massaging under my eyes. I leave the coconut oil on all day, it absorbs in to the skin as long as you do not apply to thick of a coat! I recently began Oil Pulling with Virgin coconut oil as well. I am starting to notice a difference but it seems like it is a temporary improvement so far, (my bags seem to return. It could be because I just started all this and it will work over time. The rest of my face feels great, just under my eyes is what I struggle with at this point.

Note: I do think my bags under my eyes are brought on by smoking and prescription medicine, and stress. I also drink apple cider vinegar with a quarter tsp. of baking soda, water and honey. Does anyone know if this will turn in to a permanent solution for dark under eye circles?

organic cold pressed sesame oil... wow! i have begun using this oil for everything!!!

my skin loves it - i use it for moisturizing and before i get in the bath - and massage.

it is wonderful to massage your whole body (face included) and then scrub with handfuls of epsom salts!!! then just rinse off the epsom salts and massage the rest of the sesame oil into your skin!!!

i also use this as nose drops - and it really helps my allergies!!!

and of course i use it for oil pulling!

i have tried VCO, EVOO, etc. and organic cold pressed sesame oil is the best for me!!!

try it if you have dry or aging skin - i promise you will love it. and if the smell bothers you a few drops of lavender or other essential oil fixes this!!!

YAY!
