Lichen Sclerosus Remedies

Aloe Vera, Dietary Changes

Hello ladies! I am 34 years old and have been diagnosed with lichen sclerosus after visiting 3 dermatologists, 5 ginecologists and 7 patologies to read my biopsy (having 2 disputed diagnoses).. I have white patches on my vulva and sclerosus on my clit. I also have white patches on the inner side ot my cheeks, but they are not yet confirmed. Have any of you been diagnosed with lichen on both in the mouth and the vulva?

I have started applying 99% aloe vera creem twice a day on my genital area, I went on a no gluten and no sugar diet and I also take homeopathy. With these 3 I hardly have itching (stress is definately a trigger), one of the white patches is done, but my clit is still in pain, while having sex.

Have any of you treated the atrophy successfully and with what? I plan to take castor oil and start vitamin B, D and A.

Thank you for all the good advices given on this portal. In my country the treatment is with steroid creams or surgery :( I am really sorry to read so many women are suffering from this disease and I hope you all fine your best treatment!

Castor Oil

I've had LS in my genital and anal area for years. Stopped using steroids because of the thinning of skin in that area. It would split and bleed. I've used 1% hydrocortisone cream for the itiching and try to remember to put it on several times a day before the itching starts. I recently saw a spot on my underside of my breast. The dermatologist diagnosed it as LS without knowing I'd have a previous history. the strange thing is, it has never itched. I'm wondering if the itching is more common if the LS is located in parts of the body where it's skin on skin, or if natural moisture has something to do with it. I am going to try some of the remedies suggested on here. Right now, at the direction of the doctor, I'm back to using a steriod cream, but I want to get away from it as soon as possible. Thanks to all for your input. I've learned a lot.

Hello Ocean51, how is your LS doing atm? This post is from 2 years ago but I hope you will read my message. I have recently been diagnosed with LS and I am looking to try PRP. Your feedback will be extremely helpful. Did you need to do another PRP treatment of several sessions? If yes, in how many months after the first one? Was the effect as strong as the first time? Are you using any steroid creams atm?

Warm regards,

Lana

Zinc Oxide
Posted by Natalia (Mn, Usa) on 04/08/2018

Glad you found some relief! This condition sounds a bit like the IC I have that makes eating high oxalate foods or detoxing endotoxins at times unbearable. As an RN, Zinc Oxide used commonly for 'toughening' the skin with burns, but it's only a bandaid. While I heal from Mycoplasma (one of the Lyme complex infections), I use a more healing bandaid for symptom tolerance: Oils of Frankincense and Tea Tree in equal parts to 20 parts of raw coconut oil, applied externally.

LS has both fungal and bacterial aspects and both need to be addressed. One option is Borax in coconut oil as a vag suppository for the fungal aspect and D-Mannose (buy the pwdr) to rid the body of excess E. Coli. There are benefits to vag supps of probiotics too. For bacterial vaginosis, douching with ACV or even 25% dilute hydrogen peroxide works. You may want to look at an overall Candida overgrowth and begin a protocol to balance your microbiome or body terrain, do some diet changes, balance minerals and vitas, and do some serious self-care, knowing you deserve to be well. Best to you.

I am a 56 yo female who has suffered from Lichen Sclerosis for nearly 20 years. I've been using Clobetasol prescribed by my gyn. It doesn't help at all. More recently, the itching became so intense that I scratched my "down there" skin so hard that I caused bruising and tearing of the thin skin. I was a complete mess from the view I saw while looking at a mirror. A friend suggested zinc oxide so I bought a tube. Oh my word, what a relief that has done. I highly recommend it for vaginal itching!

Researched for over a year as to the cause of LS. Tried all of the noted protocols on the web. What helped was Perrin Naturals and also ozonated extra virgin olive oil. These worked for different phases of the out breaks. Ended up going back to my old faithful calendula ointment and witch hazel for immediate relief of the itching and burning. Breaks outs always appeared after eating acidic foods. When I researched the bottled water I was using, the test results also showed acidic. Changed to a much higher PH bottled water and continued my calendula and witch hazel protocol. Still searching for the cause is when I found MMS. Drank MMS for 8 days and also did the MMS sitz baths for 8 days. No more lesions, itching, cuts and burning. It took a long time to find this cure for me but thought I would share it as it may help others.

MMS (Miracle Mineral Supplement) - I started with one drop for a couple of days and moved up to 2 drops. With the sitz bath I used 5 drops MMS and soaked for 20 minutes in hot water. By the eight day I wasn't using and witch hazel for the itching and calendula ointment.

LS: Dry it out first! Cures it completely

I was using castor oil with lemongrass and lavender as well as hydrogen peroxide 6% - the itching had gone but the white patch wasn't going.

I rolled a small section of a panty liner up and wedged it next to the sore and taped it in place with micropore tape before bed. After massaging the hydrogen peroxide solution in the next morning (quite vigorously), most of the white stuff wiped off with a tissue. One more night of the same and the rest of it came off. Now the skin is pink and I'm just using castor/lemongrass/lavender oil to make sure it doesn't come back.

I'm so relieved it seems to be completely cured. I had a patch about the size of a 5p piece on my labia minora. I think drying it out killed it completely, and surprisingly it didn't irritate the skin around it. Hope this helps some others get rid of it completely as well.

Epsom Salt Baths, Vitamin E

My LS is superimposed on atrophic vaginitis brought on by menopause. I relate to the intense nerve jangling initiated by any washing/drying of the vulvar area, which has shriveled and appears as if all the blood has drained out.

As a remedy, I have been taking daily, 20-minute sits baths with 2 handfuls of epsom salts. Very soothing and relaxing. Then, carefully pat dry the external area only, so as not to start the nerve reaction, or tear the thin sensitive vulvar skin, or cause bleeding. Then, I follow with Vitamin E oil to lubricate and aid in healing the labia, vulvar skin.

This leaves the area feeling cool and calm...

Hoping for long-term relief and healing!

Vitamin D3

Castor oil is wonderful and soothing and aids skin healing.... BUT the CAUSE Of LS is a VITAMIN D deficiency which my integrative medicine MD, who is also a cardiologist, luckily knew all about (but not the gynecologist, go figure).

Take LOTS Of Vitamin D3 and also a small amount of Vitamin K2 to complement it, and the other cofactors for D which include magnesium, Omega-3s, and boron.

Your Vitamin D levels must get up to about 60-80 ng/dl. but not over 90 ng/dl. I was out of pain within 2 days of taking chewable Vitamin D3 3 X a day 5,000 units each. Still need to keep on top of it all. And now also include MSM, sulfur, another mneral we really need. ALSO Colloidal silver works to heal skin and other soft tissues.

Prescription Meds for LS

I have tried just about every natural remedy that is listed in EC even with help of my naturopath for a few years. I finally went to a dermo who is well versed in LS and he prescribed Acitritin (ended up on 25 mg per day until he decides to decrease again. We ramped up originally as he had good results with other patients ). I also use a topical as well. I still get flares but it is from stress or skipping the ointment a few days or weeks. He feels if I do this for a year I may be able to go off of everything. My skin is so much nicer. The ointment is called Tacrolimus 0.1% Doc also has me use Burt's Bees baby wipes. He is in Chapel Hill NC. Dr Kenneth Becker. Some of the natural stuff would work a few days or weeks and then I would get a horrible flare. This rash just seems to continuously morph... but that is autoimmune stuff. I keep reading just incase something diff comes along so I don't have to do the drugs. (btw, my LS was a dry spot outside vagina and then a 'hot spot' where my butt cheeks touch. I have gotten 'plaque' (really weird dry skin) in both those areas. I had also had like a thrush baby rash from my mound up and over my belly. I have my labia and clit. Good luck all.... lots of work. hugs~

I have been using organic castor oil on myself for a week for LS. It has softened the rough patches of skin. Also, it tends to soothe the irritation. My Gyno said 2 days ago that it hasn't disappeared, but it is not getting worse. So, I figure that is a step in the right direction.+.

I've been mixing a batch of castor oil and lemongrass and lavender oils rather than mixing every time I use it. It isn't helping very much and I've been using it daily for months. I use clobestol sparingly as it can make the situation worse my doctor said. Any other natural remedies that someone has tried.

LS and Hypothyroidism Connection
Posted by Queenie (California) on 08/19/2017

This comment is a little harsh, judgey and might not be true.

It is a very emotional thing, having LS and knowing that stress makes it worse. In fact there is "a going back". There is. I am not there yet, I have just discovered it. But hundreds of women that I have read from in the past week have said that they are experiencing NO symptoms and taking wheat sugar and processed foods out of their diet did the trick. No, I won't say cure- as that would cause an argument. But no symptoms. So there is a "over the rainbow" place for many women. We can't be so harsh online- every single body is different, and some heals faster then others.

Castor Oil and Essential Oils
Posted by Lulu (Walnut) on 08/18/2017

Yes castor oil can be used vaginally. Please be very careful with lemongrass on the skin, especially delicate skin. It is strong and can burn. No more than 1 drop per tablespoon castor oil. On delicate tissues, dilute lavender as well.

Castor Oil and Essential Oils
Posted by Charity (Faithville, Usa) on 08/17/2017

castor oil hexane free is a penetrant and when I use it on my liver it takes affect almost immediately from the surface of my skin ....so I would use on lower pelvic right above hairline and you will get results . Just use with some cotton flannel on it and saran wrap and healing pad to drive it down into the skin. Be careful of using too much essential oil with it the first time....

I have also been diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosus and the meds from the Dr have not helped. I have purchased an organic Castor Oil (Aura Cacia) but it says for external use only. Is it still ok to use inside the vaginal area? Along with the Lavender and lemongrass essential oils.

Any help is appreciated!!

Thank you

LS - Hyperthyroid Connection
Posted by Justine (France) on 08/15/2017

My mother had a thyroid operation when I was very young. I think she had it removed and subsequently was told that it was underactive as she gained weight. She developed LS of the vulva in her 50s and now has scleroderma in her fingers. I have never had any health problems but at the age of 43 I developed LS of the vulva. Could be an interesting line of enquiry to see if there is a connection.

Lichen Sclerosus:

Castor oil, lavender oil and lemon grass oil mixture have given me incredible relief from pain and itching. I'm Almost feeling normal at times. Also, it looks much better only after 2 days of use. Bowel movements are much less painful as well. Before I tried this wonderful oil mixture, I had tried Butt Paste with 40% zinc oxide which helped with itching and pain to a certain extent. Applying several times night and day just to get by. Coconut oil is very soothing and felt nice but didn't help the itch at all. Please try the castor oil!

Manuka Honey
Posted by Luckylucy (Nh) on 08/04/2017

I have had LS for many years and tried Protopic, steroids and none of that really helped. Seroviral HGH made it fade quite a bit. I recently tried sandlewood oil and royal jelly which faded it about 80 percent.

I have for 3 days been using manuka honey and am trying 10+ umf on one side of my chest and 18+ on the other side to see if one works better. LS is now 95 percent flat and nearly all the white is gone. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this finally does the trick. None of the doctors have been particularly useful over the years in finding a useful remedy (but at least they could diagnose it) not even those at the best Boston hospitals... Does it seem that they have far more interest in Lyme disease than helping us women with this sometimes embarrassing ailment?

Borax

Borax for Lichen Sclersus and osteoarthritis

After reading many website on Borax I found Dr. Walter Last's website on 'The Borax Conspiracy' I followed his instructions to rid my LS condition of 3 years. I used 1/8 tsp Borax to 1 litre of distilled water for 10 days with a one day break after 5 days; then I mixed 1 heaping tsp Borax to 1 liter of water and took 1-2 tsp daily added to an additional glass of water. Also take 600-750mg Magnesium Citrate.

After 4 days of beginning this treatment, I noticed my energy increased and my knees, which have 'osteoarthritis', stopped aching. After 10 days, my LS inflammation began to subside, and the itching subdued greatly. For moisture I began to apply a combined solution made of 2 tbsp Castor Oil with a 5-6 drops of Lavendar Essential Oil and 3-4 drops of Lemon Grass Essential Oil and applied regularly on my labia/vulva area.

One month later, I feel much better and the healing is definitely happening! What a relief! I have stopped taking the 'steroids' prescribed by my Dermatologist, as it had only superficially contained the problem and the redness and itching hadn't ever stopped for long. I have never had a yeast problem ever before in my life, I'm a vegetarian since my teens, and 65 years old now. (PS. I do have a hypo thyroid condition since mid 30yrs, which I now take 5-6 drops of Nascent Iodine a day with '50mg Selenium', and discontinued taking my 'thyroxine' medication.)

I also take Nordic probiotics & Chromium; Vitamin D3 and Omega 3 to help my gut. I stopped drinking so much coffee and drink lots of water, modified glutens to very small amounts and walking more frequently.

Lichen Sclerosus

ACV on a damp cotton swab, dab onto vagina labial and pat dry then apply a mix of baking soda with coconut oil, relieved the itch and burning sensation. Cheap and effective. I stopped the estrogen cream as I suspect this occurred shortly after I started. I don't want to start the steroid cream, as it causes more problems. Also quit smoking 6 days now along with gluten and caffeine and cut back 90%of my sugar intake. Eating more greens, astragalus, oregano and mint and no processed food. Will check in after my next gyno appointment in Aug.

Hi - I have had LS for 30 years, but until recently I have not had to treat. I use emuaid, in fact I just ordered the moisturizer bar today. It works very well for the itching and burning. I stopped using it to treat with hormone cream my dr prescribed, and this was a big mistake. I cancelled my follow up appt with the dr and started using the emuaid again. Like every one else, I am looking for something to fix me, so I am also trying many things which I have found on this site. Lavender has also worked well, I mix a few drops in with the emuaid. Good luck!

Maybe ask your doctor to referrer you to an OBGYN or a Derm who specializes in LS. My biopsy came back positive, but they don't always, yet you still have it. I wish you luck.
