Natural Remedies for Gray Hair

Dietary Changes
Posted by Ed (Midlands, Uk) on 10/02/2012

Hi Earthclinicians. I think I've found a way of increasing/decreasing grey hair. When I drink alcohol or caffeine my hair is very much greyer the next day.

When I drink wheatgrass over a few days or I juice vegetables, my hair goes back to its original colour again. It also gets thicker. I've had this confirmed by others who've seen the change.

I think it's about about blood pH and keeping on an alkaline diet.

This is my observation anyway.

Blackstrap Molasses

I had been taking organic unsulphured blackstrap molasses for gray hair for the last year or so. Instead, I found that it cured my borderline anemia and I could donate blood again. I take a tablespoon every day with soymilk. It is also working on my gray hair but much more slowly. I realise that my roots are not turning gray as quickly as before and I could wait longer before retouching my roots. Very pleased with the results as I had been trying other remedies like flaxseed oil and vitamin Bs without success. I am vegan so blackstrap molasses is definitely useful for vegetarians or vegans who have problems with anemia.

Hi...I have lots of grey hair in my late 20s. I am too much worried about it. So while searching for remedies for grey hair, I landed here. I am so happy that I found out this site. I am going to try unsulphered blackstrap molasses from tomorrow. I bought it from Wholefoods. It doesnt say it contains copper so I asked a specialist there and He said they dont list everything on the package but it does contain coppper. I hope it works for me as it did for other. I will update my results after a month.

Perhaps try coconut oil, as well as oil pulling with coconut oil. I have found that since including a regimen of 2 Tbs. of coconut oil per day taken internally, and also oil pulling once a day -- that my gray hairs have been replaced by brown again.

Good luck!

Wheatgrass
Posted by Man (America) on 01/01/2014

There may have been a misunderstanding on the issue of gray hair, Amar. To my knowledge there is no instantaneous cure to convert gray hair back to normal, but if there were and it involved Wheat grass then it would involve Living Wheat grass juice. That means you have to grow this stuff in your kitchen and juice it and drink it while it is fresh. Wheat grass juice is a living drink. I can say from experience that Wheatgrass juice will help you but it is not a drug, and it does not work in a week, in two weeks. When I did this it was a daily commitment for three months. It worked so well that I continued to grow and juice wheatgrass for over a year after I noticed my issue had disappeared. (Mine was Acid Reflux). So the first issue is time. Even with the dry product which you bought may have some positive affect, but it is not going to work over night. This isn't magic we are talking about. Consider this word-image: The general direction of a man's health is like a two hundred tonne Ocean liner going in a direction. if the captain of the ship decides to change directions, he turns the rudder. But the ship does not immediately go in the direction that he turned the rudder. It takes time for the body to respond to proper nutrition. I have seen God Almighty heal people instantly. I have witnessed crippled men jump and walk perfectly who for years have been in excruciating and debilitating pain. So I don't discount instantaneous healing, I am a man of Trust/faith in the operation of the Law of God. But for most people time and proper nutrition is the solution.

Copper Supplementation
Posted by Joy (Battleground, Wash) on 05/29/2013

While it is TRUE that hair goes white and grey due to mineral deficiency and mineral imbalance could be the cause. Also, if you take kelp and you are hyperthyroid you will SUFFER. Copper toxicity causes liver problems and thyroid problems.

A healthier appoach would be to take a full spectrum mineral with supporting vitamins since minerals are only part of the orchestra. My grey hairs are going away with supplements and I use very little copper or zinc.

If you use the supplement you bought; try 1 every other day so you don't get overload and cause a deficiency in your other minerals

A progesterone deficiency can also cause grey hair.

Avoid Corn Syrup - Grey hair

Someone mentioned that copper is needed for your hair to keep its color, and if you do a search, you'll find that's true. Americans especially are severely depleted of copper. I read somewhere that corn syrup sucks the copper out of your body, and corn syrup is in MANY of our processed foods, so thats no surprise. Blackstrap molasses, as someone else said, is one of the best possible natural sources of copper, and is a good supplement for many other problems as well. I'm nearing 60 and have only a few grey hairs, that started appearing after I hadn't taken any blackstrap molasses for quite a few months. When I take the molasses, my hair color slowly comes back. I just add it as a sweetener to tea, or make a tea of ACV and BSM. Takes a little getting used to, but I definitely look and feel better when I take it regularly.

Blackstrap Molasses, Brewers Yeast

I have been coloring my gray hair for over 20 years. Decided to stop and try something natural. I went with the 1 Tb. molasses and 1 Tb. brewers yeast twice a day. Started about a month ago and not much change. I read that you need copper and my brewers yeast did not have copper in it. I changed to a different brand that had copper and now I am seeing more and more brown hair. I never would have believed it if I wasn't seeing if for myself. I am 52 years old and started getting some gray in my hair while still in my early 20s.

It works.

Sour Apples
Posted by Mark (Silver Spring, MD USA) on 03/02/2009

Read this on Yahoo. Scientists have appeared to have uncovered the reason hair turns gray; it's a low level of the enzyme, catalase. Researched that and came upon a web site, albeit hawking a product, discussed studies about apples. Three different studies, one in Russia, one in China and one in Spain, showed that, in laboratory animals, giving them an extract of sour apples increased their lifespan and for human application, eating sour apples(Granny Smith, for example)reversed gray hair. How many apples per day it didn't say and as I stated, this was from a web site that had an apple supplement to sell. I've started eating 3-4 apples a day. Let's see.

At around the same time I started taking 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses for the iron (being vegetarian) and taking a Vitamin B supplement (for stress). Before this I had to dye my hair every few weeks to cover the grey that was threatening to overtake my dark hair. After six months of taking the two remedies daily I was able to stop colouring my hair!!! I couldn't believe it! Now I can actually see when I pull the odd grey out that they are gradually turning black at the folicle. It takes a long time, but the results are definitely worth the wait! I'm not sure whether it's the vitamins or the molasses or if they work together. Daily intake seems to be the key. Also I feel healthy and relaxed. Good luck!

I was astonished to find my 16 year old son had not 1 but over 23 grey hairs . On speaking to my Asian neighbour , she advised me to massage him daily before bed generously with mustard oil (available very cheaply from asian shops ).Then wash his hair in he morning . After two weeks not a single grey hair ! I tried the same on my self over 40 and over half of my head is grey .So far in one week there' is a marked decrease in the number of grey hairs.

I have used H2O2 as a mouth wash and cleaning open wounds for nearly 40 years and it always work. I read about all the other remedies on this site! One idea I haven't seen is: I use shampoo out of a bottle until I can pour 100ml H2O2 into it. I have to shake the bottle when I want to use it. I have stayed blond and have no grey hairs and it keeps my scalp healthy.

Hi Kim... I understand your concern about the original post but I am blonde and had great success spraying hydrogen peroxide both to give a natural blonde highlight to my hair AND to remove gray simutaneously. I found the original suggestion to add the H202 to the shampoo bottle very harsh for my hair and especially on my scalp but modified to the spray and have been doing this method with incredible results on and off for over a year now ;)

After reading here about black strap molasses and gray hair, I have been taking 1-2 tablespoons in my coffee each morning for a little over three months. I tried it in hot water and it was horrible. In coffee, it taste like a latte, and after getting used to it, I look forward to it every day. The first two months I noticed a difference, but wondered if it was my imagination or wishful thinking. Now at three months, I would say the gray is 70% gone, and my stylist is absolutely amazed. The white patch above my forehead is gone completely. I'm 40 yrs old, and was starting to gray rapidly, it was costing a fortune to keep covered. The first 2 months, my hair grew so fast, that the gray was showing quicker, but I'm glad that I stuck with it, the little bit I have left is hardly noticable, and I am hoping that in time, it will all be gone. I am so thankful that I read about this on your site, and will be taking it for the rest of my life. I have also noticed an increase in energy, and believe it to be the molasses also. Thank you!

Amla Berry

Hi I'm writing about the posting pasted above. I've been researching into Amla powder. Amla is also known as the 'Indian Gooseberry' (Emblica offinalis) and has been used in India for hair for hundreds of years. It has a very high content of Vitamin C. I would say that it's more of a preventative measure than a cure for grey and falling hair.

Anjuli suggested Lemon and Coconut oil. If you wish to use these, you could definitely mix the Amla powder (available at Tesco supermarket in the UK as well as many asian/Indian grocery stores), into the oil mixture. Some of it will dissolve and there will be a grainy residue.

A lot of vegetable oils are very good for both the Skin and Hair. They are saturated with vitamins and nutrients. You can mix them together too and also use the purest essential oils. I find the following oils very good for the hair: Olive, Shea Butter, Mustard Seed, Coconut, Jojoba, Sweet Almond Oil and Thistle Oil.

Essential oils that you can mix into the blend of oils include Ginger, Rosemary, Lavender, Cedarwood, Benzoin, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang. Only ever use the most purest essential oils.

If you add 5% Vitamin E Oil to the blend it will help keep it from going rancid for longer. Store the oil away in a cool place away from sunlight.

You can mix amla power into the oil when you dispense a little to use it.

Use the oil as an overnight conditioner by massaging well into the scalp and and hair. Wash it out in the morning. If you can't do this then massage it into the scalp and hair and leave it in for as long as you can even if it's only 15 minutes before a shower.

When it comes to washing out the oil. Massage shampoo into your hair first and add a tiny bit of water. If you wet hair first, it will be difficult to get the oil out.

A recipe for intensive oil treatment: 24.5ml Thistle Oil, 24.5ml Olive Oil, 3ml Vitamin E Oil, 0.5ml Vitamin A Palmitate, 50 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil, 30 Drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil and 20 drops of Ylang Ylang.

Or you can replace the above Essential Oils in the recipe by using the following instead: 15 drops of Ginger Essential Oil, 60 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 15 drops of Cedarwood Essential Oil. Although the oils will improve the condition of your hair and stimulate the hair follicles and your scalp there is no guarantee that they will make new hair grow or get rid of gray hair. It may however help prevent an early onset of hair loss.

Hope this helps. Good luck and God Bless.

Lugol's Iodine

I use Iodine - Lugol's Solution: My grey hair and my dog's grey hair both are going back to our natural color. We've been taking in for 6 weeks now. I am 200 pounds and am taking 8-10 drops of Lugol's daily. My dog, at about 100 pounds, gets 4-5 drops daily

Lugol's Iodine

I don't believe that an iodine overload will result in hyperthyroidism. In Dr. Brownstein's book, he tested over 1000 people with iodine. People took iodine and were then tested as to the iodine content in their urine. The more iodine in their urine meant it was surplus to the body needs. In other words iodine not needed by the body is justed taken out in urine. Excess iodine is not stored in the body.

Lugol's Iodine
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 02/17/2012

Hi Jac... I would certainly not combine Lugol's Iodine(LI), Hydrogen Peroxide and Vitamin C together every day. Both Hydrogen Peroxide and. LI are quite reactive. If you combine Hydrogen Peroxide and LI together in an acid medium then this may form Hydriodic Acid -- a very strong acid. However, there are benefits if you combine Vitamin C with LI -- the elemental iodine in the LI will oxidize the Vitamin C to dehydroascorbic acid -- which is beneficial to the brain(Normal vitamin c cannot cross the blood/brain barrier). Also, all the elemental iodine in the LI will be converted to iodide. So, if you want to specifically get vitamin c to the brain or you want a larger dose of iodide as an antioxidant or to help recover just your thyroid, then combining vit c with LI is useful. But this form of iodine will not have the bodywide beneficial effects on the body as LI alone because LI, which is iodide and iodine in a solution of water, also creates Triiodide or I3- in an equilibrium reaction:

I2 (elemental iodine) plus I (ionic iodide)¢‡Œ I3 (Triiodide)

So with LI you get all three types of highly beneficial iodine which are all useful in different ways to the body. These iodine/iodide forms are beneficial because different regions, organs and glands the human body absorb different forms of iodine/iodide. For instance the female breast can absorb only iodine and not the iodide form. Same with the prostate. Other parts of the body -- like the thyroid -- can only absorb it as iodide. So you must have all 3 forms of iodide/iodine present to obtain whole body iodine sufficiency (not just for thyroid sufficiency). In fact, as has been proved through research, the body needs 100 times more iodide/iodine than the thyroid requires. This is why Lugol's Iodine is the best form -- because it has the right balance of iodide/iodine that is required for whole body sufficiency -- including thyroid sufficiency. I usually always take iodine in a glass of water alone outside mealtimes -- with nothing else. I would also advise that you do the same with hydrogen peroxide(HP). You can also take HP combined quite safely with sodium bicarbonate in water which will help alkalize your blood at the same time.

I used Bill Munro's inhalation remedy a while back. First thing I noticed was my hair was turning back to brown, from being silver/brown. Also noticed after taking it for the first couple times, when I breathed in, it felt like for the first time I was using ALL of my lungs. This is a VERY WEIRD FEELING ! It's as if your whole life you're only using half your lungs. One thing I want to add. Walgreens may not use stabilizers in their 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. If you look on their label, its not listed on there. All the other brands list stabilizers. I'm hoping that means they don't add stabilizers. Maybe other people can comment on this. Anyway, I stopped using the remedy, but only because I got lazy. But now looking at the sliver creeping back into my hair, my ego and vanity will take over and put me back on the regime. Sigh.........Oh well at least I'll beat all my competition on the tennis courts. Via condias Amigos. ----------- Ps. Another amazing cure for everything from Fibromyalgia to cancer is Glyconutrients. Look it up on the net.

White Potatoes

It's an Edgar Cayce remedy and it truly works to cure grey hair. Peel the skins of 2 white potatoes and tie them up in patapar paper. Put them in a pan and let boil (just a slight boil) for 12 to 15 minutes. When done, let it cool for a few minutes and eat the skins. Also, drink the water. I, personally use 3 to 4 cups of water. Do this every other day, and in a few months you will see a tremendous difference. You will notice some difference in a few weeks, but be patient. Good luck.

EC: Patapar Paper is Vegetable Cooking Parchment. Easy to find on the internet, just do a google search.

Be careful with too much BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES. It is ok once and awhile but it gives the body a lot of iron. And too much iron is not healthy. That's why people with too much iron in their blood donate their blood. Just to eliminate the excess iron.

Hi,

I started to go grey in my head when I was 20-22, now at 29 I have many greys. What's bothering is that about 1-2 years back I started to get grey in my beard too. I do regular exercise and have a decent diet.

2 months back I started taking blackstrap molasses, multi-vitimains, c etc don't notice anything as such.

Please tell me if anyone had success with reversing grey hair. Tell me your personal stories or the ones you've seen not the ones you've read online. Appreciate responses.
