Pineapple, Lemon
★★★★★
Hi, I had so much flow that I thought that I would have to go to the hospital. At noon I ate a can of pineapple with about a 1/4 cup of lemon juice in it. In one hour I noticed a difference and by the end of the day my flow had decreased to 1/4 of it's original amount. AMAZING!!! I also took 4 Black Cohosh, 4 Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules, 1 extra strength Ibuprofen. Please take these with a full stomach and spread them out. It can upset your stomach. Also you may be allergic to any of these or they may react with your current meds. So taking them all combined and with this dosage is not recommended. Talk to your doctor and see if this will hurt you. If not, then go for it but cautiously and less agressively than I did. My stomach was a little upset but the next day I went through only one pad. I continued with the treatment and on my 3rd day I hardly need a pad. Tomorrow, my 4th day, I will not need one I expect. I didn't take the pineapple/lemon combo today (ran out) but I am taking the other stuff. I also take Laura Vanderhagee's Liquid Iron, Menosmart and Estrosmart. Excellent Homonal Nutritional Line!!! I hope this helps!!! God bless!!!
Plantain
★★★★★
Last period was a nightmare. I was bloated, exhausted, unable to leave my bed/hot water bottle unless it was to stagger into a hot bath. Maximum ibuprofen did nothing.
I tried ginger tea with alder bark and birch bark which helped the pain, to the extent that I could cut back the ibuprofen. I was able to end my period with plantain (Plantago lanceolata, not the banana-like things). So far so good. But I thought I might have cysts or fibroids so I rushed off to the doc who said she could find nothing. We agreed to wait for next period and see how that went.
In the meantime, I had ordered Apple Cider Vinegar with mother and Blackstrap Molasses and started taking it a couple of weeks ago alongside my usual herb tonic, which often includes plantain. I boosted turmeric in my diet and added maca every other day, a B complex daily and probiotics.
I have boosted my fruit and veg intake and cut down on coffee, but I still have one mug in the morning and I still eat non-organic meat (can't afford not to! ).
I am happy to report a better-than-normal period on exactly the right day! I am definitely going to continue.
Quercetin
★★★★★
In reference to Beth who has heavy menstrual bleeding, the best and the most useful way is to take QUERCETIN 500-mg x 3 days. It will stop the bleeding the first day. The propriety of the quercetin is to re-enforce the micro vessel to prevent the bleeding. I have a lot of success with the quercetin for this problem.
You can buy the quercetin online or in health store. Very effective.
Red Raspberry and Cinnamon Bark
★★★★★
For profuse menstruation drink freely of a tea made with red raspberry leaves and cinnamon bark or cinnamon bark alone. This remedy will be found very effective for reducing pain and flow.
In a gel-capsule combine ground cinnamon and dried red raspberry leaves of equal volume; not by volume weight. Combine half the gel-cap with cinnamon and the other half with red raspberry. Gently packed the red raspberry leaves. The gel cap size is of your choice. I use size 00.
An easy way to fill a capsule is to place the ground or powdered material in a saucer or on a plate and scoop the two sections of the capsule together through the material; both halves will fill.
Fill one whole capsule with ground cinnamon and one whole capsule with dried ground red raspberry leaves. Use half of the cinnamon capsule and it place on one end of half the red raspberry capsule. Look at the capsule halves closely as one side is longer and a little bit bigger. This is so the two halves will combined to make one capsule.
Red Raspberry Tea

I am 48 years old and have had my period for almost 3 weeks now. I read how raspberry leaf can help with a heavy or prolonged flow - stopping it. I bought Nature's Way capsules after reading how the RL capsules actually stopped some woman's period after similar situations. I have been taking them since yesterday and I am bleeding even more. Why are the RL capsules making me bleed even more? How can I stop stop the bleeding?

Dear Jennat,
My understanding is that the properties of Red Raspberry Leaf are best extracted from water, as in, a tea. I would expect the capsules to not work well, if at all, though perhaps others experience success with them, and for you, the symptoms are worse...
Cayenne pepper - 1/2 teaspoon in a glass of juice, sipped through a straw has always worked for me for heavy bleeding. The straw keeps you from burning your lips when you drink this.
Shepherd's Purse works for me as well - 1-2 droppers full of the tincture every couple of hours until symptoms improve. (I don't think I have ever needed more than 2-3 doses in a single day.

BSM, ACV, and Raspberry Tea/Capsules did not work for me. It seems like they made me flow even more. No combination of the three helped stop the bleeding. Plus, the ACV was making me bloated and gassy.
I went and bought Nature's Way Cayenne Pepper capsules. I hope the Cayenne helps. How many are supposed to take each day? Any side effects?

Raspberry leaf tea increases estrogen and isn't good for heavy flow. Not sure how it's helping others' heavy flow, they might need estrogen, but I thought increasing estrogen increases the flow.
Red Raspberry Tea

I am 41 and was bleeding quite heavily (over 30 mls/day) for almost three months. Red raspberry tea worked within the first two days. I made a giant pot in the morning and sipped throughout the day. By the end of the second day, the bleeding stopped. I previously tried a.c.v., vitex, molasses, etc., but this seemed to be the only remedy that did the trick. I have continued to drink it since and so far, so good!

I'm a chiropractor specializing in fertility, pre-natal, and pediatric care. I always have this tea here in the office because of its healing and soothing effect on the female reproductive system. I recommend it for menstrual cramps, any cycle irregularity, during pregnancy, and general uterine health. It's a miraculous ancient remedy used by native cultures for centuries. For those who haven't tried it, it's like a mild black tea in flavor and naturally a little sweet. Try drinking it right before and throughout your next period and see how soothing it is for yourself. I usually drink a cup every day and maybe two during my period.

Colleen, do you know a tea or remedy that might aid in becoming pregnant?

Hi Mmsg, I don't know if you've heard about this but guaifenesin which is found in cough syrup has been found to help women to conceive. If you google it you will find info on it. Basically, this thins the cervical fluid and thereby allows the sperm to travel more easily. You also need to know when you're ovulating to time it. Also, you must use ones with only this ingredient. There are brands that fit this description. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw this out there since I'd heard about it awhile ago. Lisa

Thanks Colleen that's great info, I used to think this tea was just for expectant mothers but it makes sense it's good for uterus in general. Incidentally I have only heard good things about this tea from a close friend at work who swears by it for her very quick births.. 3 hours labour the first time and 11/2tge second time.. She says she took it non stop all day every day according to thirst for the week before her due date!

I have heavy periods, so I bought Red Raspberry Leaf Tea and had been drinking it for a couple weeks to ease my upcoming period. But, my period ended up heavier and clottier than I had ever had before. I read that this can happen because the rrl causes contractions to tone the uterus, and the contractions flush out the blood faster. Scared the heck out of me! Took Slow Flow to chill it back out.

This is surprising....by the second or third day of use for red raspberry tea (at what should be the end of my menstrual flow). Flow is gone. I only use the rrt to end my period. Maybe I should try it for reduction of heaviness.
Red Raspberry Tea

Raspberry Leaf tea is considered the "women's tea". It helps with adrenal glands, and contains iron, calcium and various vitamins. Somehow it helps with the uterus. During menstration it has been amazing how it takes away cramping for me quickly! I also use the tea bag after I am done and put it on my face, and it tightens my pores! During pregnancy I always drink Raspberry leaf tea. It is quite expensive from the natural food store. So, I learned to make my own. I take the leaves off the plants, rinse them off with water, and let dry. Once dry (1-2 weeks) I crush them and store them. I then use them like any tea. It is now a great free beverage I share with my kids too!

OK, I read all your postings. I've been menstruating for 21 days now, and usually only have 5 days. So I got some Raspberry Tea, put 2 Tbsps. of Blackstrap Molasses in it (a little heavy, but tolerable) and ACV in grape juice (not a highlight of my day). Here's to hoping it works. I'm trying to get pregnant, so the 3 week period is not helping. I'll keep you posted.

to slow down a heavy flow drink red raspberry tea. Make sure the tea is the color of blood very dark and drink a 6-8 oz cup with honey if wanted or needed for sweetness. It works every time.

With regard to Leslie of Frankfurt, I want to add the following for stopping uncontrollable bleeding, (But first, please note that prolonged viewing of computer monitors can ALSO TRIGGER bleeding AND WORSE, and that the following stuff will PROTECT against computer monitors' multi-symptom triggers BUT ONLY TO A DEGREE). Also note that while cherries/raspberries may clot bleeding internally, purple grapes, apples and garlic have the opposite effect since they thin the blood. The latter can also prevent wounds from clotting. Computer fluorescence can ALSO prevent wounds from clotting.
Black cherry concentrate OR Bing cherries OR cherry yogurt ARE EXCELLENT FOR STOPPING BLEEDING AND FOR PROTECTING MUCOSAL LININGS. Note that someone told me that RASPBERRY concentrate ENEMAS helped her. Both of these (black cherry and raspberry enemas) may even prove more potent than the raspberry tea mentioned.
Rhodiola
★★★★★
I use Rhodiola Complex for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and although it's been only 1 month the difference it has made is incredible. Rhodiola root extract 62.5mg/250mg of root. Also includes kelp, spinach and minerals. Take 1 capsule 10 days before period every day.
Rhodiola, Reishi, Ashwagandha
★★★★★
I ordered rhodiola powder, reishi mushroom powder and aswagandha root...mixed them together and encapsulated them in Vegetarian capsules. I take two a day. My period was remarkably EASY this month. No cramps, very light...and short. For the last 3-4 years, my periods have been extremely heavy and tons of dark tissue. I had breast cancer last year and went without a period for quite a few months. When it came back four months after chemo was done, it came back with a vengeance! But hopefully with this mix of goodness, I'll be able to handle it much better! No anxiety for me but the Wellbutrin I take wipes that out!
Sage Leaves
★★★★★
Sage leaf stops my period cold. I eat a small bunch of fresh leaves once a day or so during my period if i need it to lighten up. Like for going shopping or taking a walk. It tends to just shut down the whole process until the next month if i eat them every day of the period.
Supplements
★★★★★
PMS/Menstruation/Migraines:
I decided to try a new vitamin and supplement regime to get myself off of a very expensive migraine medication that I needed without fail on a monthly basis! However I've been surprised at the changes that went beyond just no migraines. I felt happy, no bloating, lots of energy, and once my period started, I didn't have the awful lower back pain (I actually cleaned the car and ran errands on the first day), and NO MIGRAINES! If you can believe it I didn't even need an Advil. I'm kind of amazed at this because I don't have a great diet, and don't get as much exercise as I should. Unfortunately it's hard to tell what exactly is doing the trick, but from research on this site and others I've started taking:
*SAMe - S-adenosylmethionine - 12 days before - noticeable improvement in mood
*Vitamin B6 - start 12 days before
*Vitamin B complex - daily
*probiotic - daily
* Vit E - daily
*Mg - daily
*Calcium - daily - at night - to help with sleep, and interferes with absorption of other vitamins
* 1 tbsp flax oil, split over 1.5 tsp am and pm or I feel nauseous
* Salmon oil - daily
* 2 tbs apple cider vinegar - one am and one pm - so far only the common brand but will try organic next time
* garlic tablets (improves circulation)
I've also been taking melatonin, starting 12 days before, but I suspect that it's actually making my sleep worse, though some sites say it can help with migraines.
Tomato Juice
★★★★★
Drink 1 or 2 glasses of tomato juice, especially V-8, every day. You'll see significant improvement in your flow, and fewer cramps in your next period!
