Blackstrap molasses! Sometimes--not often--I suffer from arrhythmia. Happened last night, still had it this morning. Tried Mag and ACV/baking soda without effect. Downed a big spoonful of blackstrap molasses, and my pulse became steady within a short time. Amazing!

arrythmia: I had a heart attack when I was 52; I am 63 now. I have kept my diet to a minimum of saturated fats although I believe in using butter and olive oil instead of margarine. I take supplements that included: fish oil, spirulina, flaxseed oil, garlic, glucosamine, msm, chondroitin, co-q 10,men's mega multiple, green source multiple, and a few others now for the past 11 years. In mid November 08, I started heart palputations that have been coming on more frequently. Some of my blood work over the years have indicated low potassium and I have been suspecting now that it is causing the arrythmia. Lately now I have been taking an occasional spoonful of sorghum or molasses, which has seemed to help. Last night (2/8/09) as I tried to sleep I had the arrythmia fairly heavily. Deep breathing did not help me. Finally I got up at midnight and took a .025 mg. xanax and a tablespoon of dark sorghum to wash it down. Within 1/2 hour the arrthymia went away and I got a good night's sleep.

I'm going to purchase some molasses shortly so I can have the potassium ready when I am out of bananas and/or veggie juice. For a few days I had been having A-Fib symptoms and then earlier today I ended having a serve A-Fib attack. It was bad enough that I thought I was going to end up in the hospital again. But then, I got to thinking about the chips I ate yesterday and the fact that I hadn't been eating my daily banana or two for about a week. So, I opened a bottle of veggie juice and downed 12 ounces. After about 15 minutes I poured another glass of juice and started eating a banana. Within 25 minutes of drinking the first glass of veggie juice I could feel my heart go into a more regular rhythm. RELIEF! I finished off the second glass of juice and banana and drank a third glass of veggie juice over the course of about two hours. I ended up ingesting between 1800 to 2000 mgs of potassium. I feel great now.

I too found Molasses an instant treatment for my heart problem. Every night my heart has a delayed beat (confirmed with overnight monitor) but doctor gave me no treatment beyond giving up caffiene. While that helps, it doesn't totally eliminate it and I admit no caffiene is difficult for me. After the first day of 2 Tbls Molasses, I sleep through the night with no problems. And this is such a relief as it really is extremely scarey to awaken to no heart beat, over and over and over. This also cured my extremely heavy menustration

I was low on potassium, and having heart arrhythmia because of it. 1 tbs each morning, and occasionally another tsp in the early evening keeps it away!

YEA - I am 67 & have experienced arrhythmias off & on for years - am aware I am very sensitive to MSG & food additives. For the past month arrhythmias have been intense, especially when I lay down. I decided to make my own Cayenne capsules & take with 1/2 glass milk, however, this caused tummy disturbance & cramping. Decided to stir 1/4 teaspoon cayenne into 1/2 glass milk, followed by 1 glass water. I've been taking this 2x daily with food for 1 week now - also take Magnesium tablet daily & Black Strap Molasses if required. The past few days have experienced very few arrhythmias which have been much less intensity. I am so grateful for this information: it is so wonderful to not feel my heart thumping & skipping beats! - Yeah

When I get problems with heart, I take taurine, cayenne, magnesium citrate, ACV, and potassium, hawthorn. Also yoga is very helpful. Also COQ-10.

I have been through hell with arrrythmias!!! I believe that there are 4 or 5 root causes:

1. MSG: Taurine is an antidote for this. Best to avoid it, but it's hard. Many people get heart issues from msg I think! It's in a lot of food!
2. Thyroid: for me one drop of potassium iodide in a little water in the morning helped.
3. An irritated vagus nerve:/ colitis: 3 tablespoons of organic olive oil worked for me.
4. Vitamin deficiencies like b12, iron magnesium, etc. In desperation, I got a spectracell micronutrient test. (Google it) Was deficient in pantothenic acid!

If I avoid msg, take taurine if I've had MSG, take 3 tablespoons of olive oil every day and one drop of potassium iodide, and pantothenic acid, I'm good! It took me 40 years to get the right protocol. No help from modern medicine worked in the long run.

Beyond ACV, cayenne, and magnesium...

I have had severe and intense arrhythmia for a few years now, all starting when I entered the menopausal change. It is quite common for many women to develop heart symptoms of all sorts. Well, I totally rejected the offered beta blockers (M.D.'s solution), and started looking to the wonderful and healing world of herbalism. Several cardiac tonics are available that work fast and immensely reliably. Motherwort would be the star of them all. In tincture form (as an infusion far too bitter! ) it can be taken everywhere and used in a 'heartbeat' if needed. 15 to 30 drops in a little water, one or a few times a day. Motherwort has many more benefits to women of ALL ages. I am a witness to its reliability and complete safety. For all women out there who are also experiencing their menopausal years, I HIGHLY recommend reading Susun Weed's book, Menopausal years The Wise Woman Way.

With the information and wisdom in this book I have approached even my N.D.s, and told THEM what I needed. Also, including very nourishing and with minerals loaded stinging nettle infusion (this is not a weak casual tea but a highly medicinal infusion of herb) supports the function of the heart (and the entire body), without dishing out a fortune for supplements. I do, however, supplement with RnA Remyte and ReMag on most days of the week. I determine the correct dosage for me each time I use it, with the help of my pendulum, as the daily needs vary. That saves a lot of money when you need exactly when and how much or little you actually need, as opposed to blindly following a protocol that is geared to the broad masses (yes, naturopaths usually work the same way as M.D.s, prescribing not what the individual needs, but what a certain protocol demands).

So, motherwort (leonorus cardiaca), nettle infusion (urtica dioica, see Susun Weed's books), ReMag and ReMyte, NOT skipping meat as it contains heme (there is not a single plant on this planet containing it), important for red blood cell formation and support of too many functions in the body to mention, but mostly iron supply.

I also learned that low ferritin levels (iron storage, NOT serum levels) can contribute or even cause heart arrhythmia. However, all that being said, we must remember that the heart is much, much more than a physical organ, and a vast variety of emotional issues or imbalances (anger, fear...) regularly trigger arrhythmia (I had a horrifying experience at one dentist where I considered not making it out alive there anymore; I went through 2,5 hours non stop intensely irregular heartbeat, did all I could and took my tinctures, did pranayama, had essential oils with me (ylang ylang, spikenard, lavender, marjoram, vetiver... just a few for arrhythmia), and absolutely nothing helped the situation. I prayed in the chair (mentally), I started crying, was very upset about the complete lack of compassion nor understanding from the dentist (he should never be let loose on the public), and realized that fear alone (in this case of the man himself as his energies were very dense and low) was the trigger that time.

The reality is, with heart arrhythmia there is no single cause, so it makes sense, to approach the 'problem' from more than one angle. I also do regular Dead Sea salt baths (26 oz per full bath).

As far as ACV goes, I find it way too acidic to take orally, even when diluted, and it has the potential to destroy tooth enamel. Not worth it to me. From an energetic perspective, in support of the heart there are a variety of crystals to use, such as red jasper, green aventurine, emerald, just to name a few. Working with crystals, however, is also a rather intuitive undertaking, and requires some understanding of the crystals themselves, how to use them, for how long, etc. The latest thing I incorporated to get the arrhythmia under control was/is homeopathy. I found an amazing doctor who practices traditional homeopathy (as opposed to those who use it more casually with little understanding of the matter). Great success thus far!!!!!

I am very certain that there are a myriad more solutions out in this world for arrhythmia, many of which the western world has never thought of perhaps. There are also insanely great ways from various types of energy medicine available. It all depends on the individual response of the person to any particular treatment (Acupuncture did absolutely nothing for me). I feel it is important to approach the matter in a holistic way as possible, physical, emotional, and working through the various layers of the energetic body. There is an amazing book out there, that everyone should have on their shelf: THE HEART SPEAKS by Mimi Guarneri, M.D., FACC. I hope I could provide the reader with more solutions than the three mentioned in the headline. Be well:)

for some years i have been sending in reports of my experience with arrhythmia. i have been hospitalized three times been given coumiden and told i need to stay on it for life as well as some other drugs for rapid heart beat. i have searched and searched and they do not make things easy for those searching for answers.

thank goodness for the internet. i have tried with some improvement juicing, fasting, diet, exercise, sea salt, and more but really got to the bottom of it when i discovered most things are digestive related. i found out i had symptoms of candida. i once had a white tongue, itchy anus constantly, sinus congestion, massive amounts of mucous after eating, and other seemily unrelated symptoms. it was then with all the stomach mucous i discovered was undigested protein and that was a result of lack of stomach acid and poor protein digestion. i put this all together and realized candida was in my stomach and my colon as well as the sinuses.

i started treating that and soon found my digestive problems were also my heart problems. when i first started taking hcl stomach acid there was massive die off of candida in my stomach and my intestines. finally i started to feel something with the die off. as unpleasant as it was, it was progress things that did not belong were dying. i also started taking systemic enzymes, and digestive enzymes and my digestion improved 100% as well as my a fib.

my theory is my colon was so full of toxic waste from undigested food it was poisoning my body and the heart was beating fast and out of rhythm in response to that poisoning. clean the liver and clean the blood with enzymes and juicing and many of the things bothering you will disappear. not right away but in time. try hcl and if one pill does not seem to give you any response of being too acid try two and up until you find the right amount. i gave one to a friend and he could not take one without feeling a burn. i take four and feel nothing. i had almost no stomach acid. if your stomach is not acid then your blood will be and that's a disease waiting to happen. you need the stomach acid strong and the blood to be alkaline for good health. i had just the opposite.

so here is what i did and i think i may have found the cure. i have taken no drugs for two years and am not dead yet. in fact i get healthier every day at age 66. rebounder, weights and running

hcl- three or four with each meal

digestive enzymes -three with each meal

juicing- carrot, apple beet celery cucumber every single day

Also good for you would be chlorella and spirulina. Read the free ebook at chlorellafactor.com. They clean the blood and detox the body and are very alkaline.

Also Ann Wigmore also recommended wheatgrass implants as a good way to clean the bowel but also get nutrients back into the bowel. Her book "The Wheatgrass Book" is excellent.

Can you please explain what is hcl. Also when you juice, how many carrots, apples, beets and cucumber you use. I can not use celery because it creates gas in body.

I have used virgin olive oil (3 tablespoons a day with food)from Iherb online store. After about one week I felt my heart racing. I thought it was only hydrogenated coconut oil that would cause problems like that. Can anyone explain that please?

I think you're making a point here. I have been diagnosed with acid reflux so I am trying to watch what I eat. So I recently started to use only extra virgin olive oil, to cook or in salads. I buy the Walmart brand, probably no more than a small bottle a month. This because I heard on a TV show what the other oils can do to our health... Now I realize that I started having palpitations and trouble breathing about 2 months ago, kind of the time since I switched to extra virgin olive oil. Because I don't use this oil daily, maybe this is why I have days when I feel great and days when I have palpitations. Probably we'll find an answer here.

The fact is, my doctor recommended - of course! - Alprozalam and then Valium. Oh, boy! I didn't take any of them. I started taking Multivitamins, Omega3, Magnesium Chloride and St. John's Wort, instead, for about 2 weeks. I also felt a strange urge to eat a lot of lemons or limes, like never! I carried them in my purse. Whenever the palpitations or the trouble breathing started, a few bites of lemon calmed down everything. Then I didn't use the oil for a while, as I said, I rarely use it in food... I also slowed down on lemons. Few days after I finished the bottle of St. John's Wort, I had palpitations again. I thought that interrupting St. John's Wort was the cause, so I started taking it again. But it didn't work. Now I start to make the connection. Both after I interrupted St. John's Wort and after I restarted using it, I used some of the olive oil. I noticed that I have a weird reaction after eating something with that oil, either raw or cooked, several times. Though, I blamed it on the other ingredients or some bad food combination I might have made. Now I'll definitely stay away from that oil, and I'll also make some research on it, to see what is going on. Thanks for mentioning it!

Please be aware that over 90% of the extra virgin olive oil sold in the US is adulterated with cheap vegetable oils like soy, canola, corn, etc. That is probably why you are having reactions when consuming the olive oil. There is an excellent book called, Extra Virginity: The Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil by Tom Mueller. Your best bet is to go with virgin palm oil or virgin coconut oil.

80% of the olive oils sold on the market are fake. Polyunsaturated factory processed oils cause heart disease. Eat butter (organic), not olive oil. I'ts hard to fake butter. And the saturated fat (55-60%) in butter is actually good for the heart.

Hi, I just read your post and had to add my thoughts. I have severe food reactions to salicylates and histamine in food so much so that it will bring on arrhythmia. Olive oil and citrus are very high. Might be worth checking out the "fedup" website. Good luck

I started a plant based diet, and took 4 drops of Lugol's Solution a day. I have been vegan since June 27th my last episode and I can honestly say since July 25th I have had no more episodes and in general I feel so much better! Leafy greens and tropical fruits are what I eat. If I cook it is a vegan dish. No animal products whatsoever, and this is worked for me! Good luck to you :)

I've tried all these, molasses+cayenne, ACV+baking soda, Lugol's iodine and magnesium both orally and spray-applied oil. All work fairly well to get rid of the arrhythmias for about 6 months, but they came back every day and I had to watch my diet very carefully to stay off heavy carbs and coffee.

Then I read the symptoms of low potassium. Since they fit me, I bought a bag of potassium chloride (KCl). In a large water glass, 12 oz, I put 1/16th of a teaspoon of KCl, and stirred it up. I sipped the water slowly, for over an hour. Then I repeated throughout the day.

Arrhythmias gone.

I just do that now, very little of the other stuff. I still occasionally take some molasses in warm water, it worked the best. Also magnesium helps lot of things. But the KCl in water is by far the best - I obviously have had an extreme potassium deficiency. I also have better strength in my muscles, and better energy. I'm a 56 year old male.

Yes, you have to be careful with potassium. But if you need it, you really do need it. Don't let naysayers scare you off. Try a little, as I did, and sip it slowly. If it's the solution, you'll know fast. I'm back to being able to eat what I want, including coffee. And no arrhythmias anymore, period.

Seems like I need your advice. I've had an arrhythmia every day for 3 weeks now, non stop. I figured out my Potassium was scary-low, I was so dehydrated my eyes were dry, I was skipping meals, eating once a day if that much and red bulls, 5-6 daily to offset Vicondin, I must take to live with 10 blown discs. I nearly fainted just walking 3 blocks taking my boy to school. I'm 52 but very lean, 5'11" 162 lbs. I've taken it seriously and am down to 1 red bull just to avoid caffeine withdrawals, 2 bananas each day, plus OJ, nuts, raisins, lots of Potassium foods, 4-5 bottles of water, no junk food.

At rest the arrhythmia is not bad, but any activity, even moderate housekeeping and the arrhythmia is severe. Resting pulse sitting up is about 72 bpm, low 60 laying down. I've lived clean and potassium rich for 3 days now and still have the arrhythmia, I'll have a blood test in 2 days. Meaning to buy Potassium and Magnesium supps, but I don't know which to buy and if it will help. I'd really appreciate your input. My EKG was clean and BP good...but I need my heart to stop freaking out, I have a little boy to raise. Thanks

Hello Tommy,

There are probably lots of other remedies but Dr Dean has received various awards from the British arrythmia society for her work involving Magnesium And Arrythmia. In the US and UK, not to mention China etc, much of the soil is depleted of magnesium and other vital minerals because of intensive mono agriculture and chemical fertilisers like phosphates and nitrates which remove magnesium from the soil. So no matter if you eat a truck load of spinach, if it's been grown in magnesium depleted soil, you will get lots of fibre but no magnesium - which is why she advocates taking liquid magnesium - but whatever sort works for you.

Also, Ashwagandha herb is very helpful for heart health. I put my husband on it 6 weeks ago after a herbalist/ naturopath recommended it and his BP has come down so his doctor has taken him off his diuretic BP pill, and halved the dose of the other tablet which means he gets to sleep through the night without having to run to the loo. He's well over retirement age so I guess if it works well for him, you might think about researching it perhaps.

Hi, I stumbled accross this site and just want to say a big thankyou for the helpful info. I am 49 and have had a dual chamber pacemaker (several) since I was 27. I have suffered with a multitude of different types of arrhythmias which the doctors just label sick sinus syndrome. More recently I have had episodes of VT. They tried several meds that my body just rejected and nearly killed me. Wanted to try burning my heart & if that didn't work - try putting a defribulator in. Providing I survive an op to take out all the current leads in there. That sent me on a path to find my own answers.

I would like to share with all the women sufferers out there not to discount the benefits of natural progesterone. Have to import it as in my country it is not available. (they just want to kill you with chemicals) I learnt a lot from reading the book 'what your doctor may not tell you about menopause' by John R Lee MD.

I also have been taking herbal medicine prescribed for me by a authentic Chinese doctor.

The combination of these has helped 50%. Im still not out of the woods yet which prompted my search.

I have followed the links and intend to start trying the vitamin methods as well. So thanks again I had started to give up. I knew there must be another way.

Also, if you need a quick fix, I find that running a mile or so is sufficient for me to reset my heart rhythm. So far, I've only had to do it 3 times, but have had success with no relapses for at least 24 hours. May be just me and my particular arrhythmia, but it is handy when traveling or away from your supplements.

Yes sea salt makes all the difference. I grew up with adrenal fatigue which turned into exhaustion/burnout 3.5 years ago. During this phase the adrenals don't produse aldosterone (anti-diuretic hormone) so the kidneys leak salt. As a result the potassium you eat is not absorbed - or very little of it - so that the balance is maintained in the body. When your levels are so low the heart cannot work properly. Until you start salting your water and food your potassium will remain very low. The heart problems - unless there is a physical malformaton or damage - are pure de-hydration.

In the morning drink a glass of water with a little salt in it. Experiment with the dosage. Shouldn't overdo it to start with. Try to eat at least one big green salad a day sprinkled with salt. Avoid in the evenings as you may get very thirsty in the middle of the night. I use Celtic Sea Salt, completely unprocessed and very tasty. Eat bananas too. You should see the difference in a couple of days.

Finally, I cant praise magnesium chloride enough. Magnesium is notoriously difficult to absorb. The absolute best & fastest way to replenish the body is transdermally. It's like balm for the adrenals.

Hello Terri, You can make that transdermal magnesium more pleasurable by adding a cup or two of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) to your warm bath water and laying back relaxed until your bath water gets cool. Sure makes tired muscles feel better after working in the garden, etc.

I started taking sea salt with every bottle of water I drank. 1/4 teaspoon per bottle. After 2 days my heart went into a crazy rhythym of extra beats--my blood pressure spiked to 174/110 before it was 115/70------

I had to go to the cardiologist---I was causing an imbalance in my blood--f'd my whole system up--- could have shutdown my renal system as well.

Thanks to a cat owner who tripled its sea salt and got rid of its diabetes, it triggered me to up my salt intake to that of a saline IV. That is 1.5 tsp. per quart of water consumed. I confirmed that requirement with an energy test by a chiropractor. That change cut my episodes of AFIB 75% and far less severe. I now have a near normal life & it did not cost me one cent.

I have been struggling with chardiac arrythmias and tried a ORS which works great! I also have symptoms of a defficiency in Iodine so I am getting some Lugol's Iodine tomorrow. In the mean time:

Clean water (4.5 cups or 1L)

Salt (1/2 teaspoon or 2.5mL)

Sugar (6 teaspoons or 30mL)

OR…

Clean water (1 cup)

Salt (1/8 teaspoon)

Sugar (1.5 teaspoons)

Oral rehydration solutions should be consumed or discarded within 12 hours if held at room temperature.

Be careful with any salt you take. My SIL swore by the pink Himalayan salt. I bought a bag, and put it in my salt shakers. Just used that for cooking, etc... Immediately, my heart rhythm started messing up. It made the adrenalin surge through my body. I found myself getting on the treadmill two-three times a day, trying to work it off, and then at night, it would still flare up. It took me 3-4 days to figure out "what am I doing different???" It dawned on me about the Himalayan salt, I stopped using that, and immediately, I was back to normal. I gave my bag to my SIL since it actually helps her. There is something in it that she needed, but worked against me. I'm having problems now again- just at night mostly, but it's due to stress or anxiety about us making a move, or lack of something in my diet. But there was a 4-6 week period of relief after quitting the Himalayan salt. I don't salt my food a lot. I have noticed that if I eat anything salty early in the day- like for breakfast, it will induce heart skips. I've lived with a sensitive heart to adrenalin for 30 plus years. Still don't have it all figured out

Right now I'm trying the CALM plus Calcium (it has magnesium in it and couple other things), and a supplement of Mag/Cal/zinc. Also trying the Apple cider vinegar, twice a day in a little apple cider, and 1 TBL, twice a day of black strap molasses. I'm also on a beta blocker- twice a day (Sectral)- been taking that for 25 years- and every time I try to get off of it, the heart starts racing- so it really does help.

Also take very mild doses of Clonzepam when especially needed. Must be careful not to take that too often though- or it becomes ineffective and habit forming. Although, my doctor said it's good to take it for a week or so when going through a bad stressful time.

Hi Sharon,

I drink Hawthorn tea every day to help me with heart palpitations. I tend to get them mostly when I lie down. Drinking the tea has eliminated most of them and when I do get them they're not as bad as before. (I have a mitral valve problem.) I recently had a bad spell one night which I think was because I had eaten little too much almond butter. Hope this info helps.

When you start on celtic sea salt and magnesium and minerals you have to start slow start with a pinch in water and raise it a little every week till you get to 1/4 teaspoon in 1 pint of water and drink half your body weight in sea salt water! It can take upto a year to remineralize the heart and body, so be patient and start slow. If you do a bunch of salt at first, it will make afib worse because your body is not use to the minerals
